Good evening! Tak and I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, or a normal Thursday evening if y

Good evening! Tak and I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, or a normal Thursday evening if you’re from across the world. We also hope you can stomach the terrible tracks we’re going to be dishing out tonight. Tak may not be posting as he’s in Alabama with his family, but he has a release in store that’s a destroyer.

The release I’ll be delivering this evening is from a man called Zero G. A quick search shows little about him, yet this didn’t fool me when I peeped this release for the first time. The first track, ‘Ransom’ features a moody synth and sort of bongo in the beginning of the track. Very junglish and tribal, dark and foggy almost. As the song progresses and drops you hit a sort of scratching, wobbly tune that will no doubt be orgasmic to anybody who is a wobstep fan.

The second track, ‘Scorpion’, is something that would be heard on Dubstep Allstars of some sort. It’s a lighter version of Ransom, with the same type of wobble. It’s a bit easier on the ears and isn’t as dramatic; something you could get work done to. It’s a fantastic track, regardless of the similarity to it’s A Side.

Artist: Zero G
Release: Ransom / Scorpion [SUBSCUM004]
Tracklist:
1) Ransom
2) Scorpion

Ransom Note Generator

I do not know why this site fascinates me so much, but it does.

Okay, this site is pretty simple. A text box and a single Google Ad. Type your message into the text box and hit enter. The site automatically compiles your message out of Flickr tagged photos. That is it, it looks like an updated version of the old magazine and newspaper ransom note. The only issue I have with this one is that they don’t have it set up to save the finished product as one picture of file. You can still use a print to PDF or something like that, since it is given on an ad free white background, but still. I know it would be more work for them, but I would like to see that out of this. Of course you can just copy paste the pictures into Word or Pages with a select all copy-paste.

It seemed lame to me at first, but I have to admit I have gone back to see what something would look like in this format. It is really kind of cool.

Psalm
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.
Psalm 121:7-8

Meditation
God proposes, first of all, as introductory to the saving of humanity, his own and well beloved and only begotten son, a personal savior. He does not propose to bring us in touch with a system of abstractions or a set of arbitrary rules imposed simply because he has the power, but to bring us, sin stained, polluted, lost, in contact with one whose virtue cures by the touch! Jesus is a personal Savior, he treats his patients as individuals, one by one and not in the aggregate. What has our Savior done for us already? He says he came to ransom us by exchanging his life for ours.
Ashley S. Johnson, The Life of Trust, 94

Scripture
You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake. 1 Peter 1:18-20

Prayer
Holy God, you gave your Son for me. Jesus, Son of God, you gave your precious blood to ransom me. May I live in freedom!

It’s especially important to be extra careful this time of year, says McAfee’s David Mar

It’s especially important to be extra careful this time of year, says McAfee’s David Marcus. “The bad guys know people are spending more time online, they’re paying more bills online so [the criminals] stand a chance of being a bit more successful this time of year.
Marcus counted down the 12 scams of Christmas starting with:

1. Charitable phishing scams: Marcus warns consumers to be wary of e-mails that appear to be from legitimate charities. Not only will they take your money and deprive charities of needed funds, but they will also steal your credit card information and identity.

2. Fake invoices from delivery services: During this period, scammers will send out fake invoices and delivery notifications appearing to come from Federal Express, UPS, the U.S. Postal Service or even the U.S. Customs Service saying that they were unable to deliver a package to your address. They ask you to confirm your address and give them credit card information to pay for delivery.

3. Social networking friend requests: Bad guys take advantage of this social time of year by sending out authentic looking friend requests via e-mail. Marcus recommends that you not click on those links but sign into Facebook and other services and look for friend requests from the site itself. Clicking on a link could install malware on your computer or trick you into revealing your password.

4. Holiday e-cards: Be careful before clicking on a holiday e-card, especially if it’s from a site you haven’t heard of. This is a way to deliver malware, pop-ups, and other forms of unwanted advertising. Some fake e-cards will look like they come from Hallmark or other legitimate companies, so pay close attention and make sure it’s from someone you know. If you’re going to send an e-card, be sure you’re dealing with a reputable service lest you risk infecting yourself and your friends.

5. Fake “luxury” jewelry: If you see an offer for luxury gifts from companies like Cartier, Gucci, and Tag Heuer at a price that’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t true. These links could lead you to malware and take your money or merchandise that will probably never arrive (or be fake if it does). Some of these sites, according to McAfee, even display the logos of the Better Business Bureau.

6. Practice safe holiday shopping. Make sure your wireless network is secure and be sure you’re shopping on sites that are secure. Though it isn’t an iron clad guarantee, you should look for the lock icon in the lower right corner of your browser and make sure the Web page starts with https. The “s” stands for “secure.”

7. Christmas carol lyrics can be dangerous: Bad guys know that people are searching for holiday related sites for music, holiday graphics, and other festive media. During this time, they create fraudulent holiday related sites.

8. Job search related scams: With the unemployment rate at 10.2 percent, there are plenty of job seekers looking for work. Beware of online offers for high paying jobs or at-home money making schemes. Some of these sites ask for money up front, which is a good way for criminals not only to steal your “set up fee” but misuse your credit card too. Marcus said that some “get rich quick” sites are all about money laundering, asking you to accept an inbound financial transfer and pay them.

9. Auction site fraud: McAfee has observed a rise in fake auction sites during the holidays. Make sure you’re actually going to eBay or whatever site you plan to deal with.

10. Password stealing scams: Criminals use low-cost tools to uncover passwords, in some cases planting key logger software to record keystrokes. Once they get your passwords, they gain access to bank accounts and credit card accounts and send spam from your e-mail accounts.

11. E-mail banking scams: A common type of phishing scam is sending out official looking e-mails that appear to come from your bank. Don’t click on any links but type in your bank’s Web address manually if you need to access your account.

12. Files for ransom: Hackers use malware to gain control of your computer and lock your data files. To access your own data you have to pay them ransom.

Gettin’ lax on this series. Still bringin this for ya. Here’s the write up for both days cuz he says it better than I could.

Day 17:

Ca$hflow is back again with day 17 of his 30 day series Square Meals and this time he has something a little different. With his album Sounds set to release in 2 weeks, Ca$h wanted to run back through the singles that have already been released from the album. The first single, “Hit and Run” featuring Dupriest, was released in June and has been downloaded over 3000 times to date. The second single, “Some Things Will Never Change” feat Jesty Beatz, was met with much acclaim upon its release in early August. The third single, “Peep My Game” featuring B/A and Willie Joe, features two heavyweights from opposite sides of the country and brings a unique sound to the table. As a bonus I have included “Watch What You Say” as a “4th meal”. “Watch What you Say” is a leftover from the album and was originally featured on HailMegatron.net as a site exclusive and Ca$h has decided to release it to the masses through his Square Meals series.

Day 18:

Today ca$hflow gives a sonic representation of the game. Everything is distorted these days. Nothing is what it should be. We need to work together to get things back to normal. This series has been a huge success so far with the number of downloads reaching into the 1000s. Thanks for all your support!!

Download all 7 after the jump.

I have taken some people hostage.
Friday the 13th, how fitting!
Now, I have planned this carefully.
You know… looked up the visiting
hours and stuff.
Yes, I took them hostage in a mental
institution, as you might have guessed.
Unfortunately you need a weapon for them
to take you serious.

You’d be forgiven for wondering by now
why I would do such a thing.
Well, I was in one of these once,
being ‘treated’.
I’m a wreck now, fighting the aftermath,
side-effects, call it what you want.
I’ve become irritated, agressive, the like.
And since my life’s going nowhere…
I could have committed suicide but apparently
that’s not an option.
Oh wel…

Psychiatry comes away with it, time after school
shooting time.
Parents, others, too trigger happy with an excuse
that it’s not ‘their fault’, it’s all
‘explainable’ as an ‘illness’.

Great.
So psychiatry is NOT a pseudo-science.
It’s all to do with substances in the brain.
Okay. Good.
They’ll be able to do something about
paedophilia soon.
School shootings.

My cure’d be about £25,000,000.

Enough is enough.
I’m doing to them, what they did to me.
Including making things up to get me locked
up in the first place.

This story, if it wasn’t true, could be a plot jacked from a James M. Cain novel. Who was James M. Cain? He was a writer who penned two of the most famous “hardboiled” novels of the 1930s: The Postman Always Rings Twice and Double Indemnity. The lattter title, Double Indemnity, tells the tale of a housewife who seduces an insurance salesman and together they scheme the murder of her dull husband. Double Indemnity was also turned into a successful film directed by the legendary Billy Wilder and starring uber-bitch Barbara Stanwyck and laconic Fred McMurray. Highly recommended.

Today, we have a similar plot: pretty housewife Quinn Gray claims she was kidnapped, held captive by an automechanic and that the lug assaulted her for 4 days, during which time he forced her to write a letter for ransom to her husband. The mechanic, Mr. Osmanovic, must give a truly satisfying lube job. Well, the cops smell this like it’s fish four days old: they ain’t buying it.

Pretty in pink: Mrs. Gray’s mugshot. Pink and gray do go together, don’t they?

St. John’s County, Florida, Sheriff David Shoar says Gray and her lover, Jasmin Osmanovic (Jasmin???) like so many criminals did something stupid: they managed to screw and plot while a nearby tape recorder documented their machinations. What makes this case even more bizarre is that the ever-faithful husband, Reid Gray, is standing by his wife. He’s paying for her legal defense as she and Osmanovic brace for the legal charges, which include extortion.

With summer and fall behind us, we lucky Vancouverites get to look forward to our seasonal dosage of rain, snow, slush and everything inbetween. Yes kids, it’s time to put away those summer sneakers and whip out the heavy artillery against mother nature. But not so fast, you skepticals might be thinking: ” Ain’t no way I’m rockin em ugly ass gumboots na mean!” But oh, ye of little faith, hypedink has got you covered. Here’s a list of some of the best footwear for this winter season:

Red Wing’s:
In 1905, Charles H. Beckman started the Red Wing Shoe Company in Red Wing, Minnesota. The first boot sold for $1.75. Though the decimal point might have hopped over couple places, Red Wings have been synonymous with basic principles of quality, craftsmanship, durability and comfort. With its recent exposure to hypebeasts and fanatics alike , their timeless styles remain a clear favorite for this upcoming season.

Clarks:
No list would be complete without these. While brothers James and Cyrus Clark might have started this company in 1825, it is , by no means, outdated. Clarks have seen “fashions in footwear come and go, and come again – everything from court shoes and winklepickers to wedge heels, sandals and sneakers. They’ve tapped to the beat of crooners, rockers, Britpoppers and hip hoppers. They’ve walked, marched, strode and sashayed through an ever-changing world”(Clarks UK). One of their most popular models is the desert boots. This classic model is known for its silhouette that features the too recognized crepe outsole, originally inspired by the crepe-soled boots worn by British officers in World War II. Soft, supple suede full grain leather uppers and a genuine plantation crepe outsole deliver all-day comfort. Accept no intimations, get a pair for yourself … like now.

Adidas x Ransom:
This refreshingly original marriage between the two produced some of the most hyped footwear this season. With the trend reverting back towards American workwear/footwear, consumers have been looking for timeless staples that will remain in their closet for years to come ( Sorry flourescent colored shoes ) While, they borrowed from the classic silhouettes we have featured above (desert boot) there are many subtleties and details that make them unique in their own respect. With Canadian retailer Ransom at the helm, you know these will stand up to the harsh Canadian winter. And they’re Adidas, show some love mmkay?

So that about wraps out our first installment for this winter season. I’m personally waiting for a pair of clarks to arrive, while Justin beat me to the punch and has been rocking these to keep his feet warm. Beautiful eh?

Anyways, stay tuned, forward this to your friends, your mama, second cousins, the random guy from your class, or bring this up as a reason to talk to that cute girl in your tutorial, alright?

Cawp it fresh yo.

This is where I start from: David Malouf’s name was unknown to me before I received the review copy

This is where I start from: David Malouf’s name was unknown to me before I received the review copy of Ransom, but I gather now that he is one of Australia’s most acclaimed writers. The novel (Malouf’s first in ten years) draws on Homer’s Iliad, which I’ve never read; and the Trojan War is one of the aspects of Greek mythology that I don’t know much about. In short, I came to Ransom largely from a position of ignorance, which means I’ve probably missed a lot of the book’s subtleties – but let’s see what I can take from it all the same.

As Ransom begins, Achilles’ friend and comrade-in-arms Petroclus has been killed by Hector, the son of King Priam of Troy. Achilles takes his revenge on Hector and, attempting to assuage his grief, parades the body repeatedly before the city of Troy. Seeing this display, Priam first interprets it as a sign that the gods are mocking him. But then a vision shows him another way that things could be, and Priam resolves to travel in disguise to Achilles, taking a cart full of treasure with which to ransom Hector’s body.

In his afterword, Malouf comments that ‘[Ransom]’s primary interest is in storytelling itself – why stories are told and why we need to hear them, how stories get changed in the telling’. I’m generally wary of author statements like this, because I prefer the text to speak for itself, and allow me to draw my own conclusions. And I find that the theme of storytelling is not what stands out the most in Ransom; yes, it’s mentioned, but I don’t see that it is really being explored to such an extent (of course, it may well just be that I’m missing out on the interplay between novel and Iliad).

What I take away the most from Ransom is the portrait of a world which is not my own. I haven’t the knowledge to judge how authentic is Malouf’s depiction of ancient times (and it’s a legendary version, anyway), but it’s convincing enough for me. This is a society to which the idea of things happening by chance is an alien concept, where everyone is bound to the stations given them by the gods, even a king: he must be seen to be a king, becoming more ‘object’ than individual – which is why Priam’s plan to disguise himself causes such controversy. It takes some effort to connect with this world that thinks so differently, and so it should – but the reward is a fully immersive tale.

Although Ransom never comes across as pastiche, Malouf’s prose does give it a legendary quality; it feels at one and the same time as if the novel is taking place in the ancient world as it might have been (incidentally, Ransom is an excellent example of how to integrate historical detail without drowning the narrative), and in a timeless ‘land of fable’. It’s a singular reading experience, which is worth a look.
