Prodigy pioneered the concept of Online Communities. A Content Department was responsible for creating and developing different Content Areas for specific topics. Scooter started as a project in 1994. Their debut single “Vallée De Larmes” (French for Valley of Tears) reached #8 on the German official dance chart. In April, Scooter played their first live show at “The Palladium” in Hamburg. At that point, Scooter officially switched from being a project into a band, and Baxxter’s “rapping” became one of the band’s trademarks.

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I was trying to think of some songs that related to Thanksgiving.  But then I realized most of those songs would end up being really corny, so that idea was scraped.  Still wanting to blog about music and the Thanksgiving theme, philanthropic ideas came to mind.  I stumbled across some news that Hip-Hop pioneer KRS-One is preparing to feed the homeless at New York’s Bowery Mission center on Thanksgiving night.  Lawrence Parker (his real name) was once homeless himself as a teenager, and sought the services that Bowery Mission provided.  He feels it is his way of giving back to a place that once provided him with food and shelter.  Now that’s what I call the real meaning of Thanksgiving.  I just hope that more individuals from the music industry (particularly Hip Hop) can follow in KRS-One’s direction.

What is a pet peeve, you may wonder?  A pet peeve is a minor annoyance that can instill extreme frustration in an individual.   In other words, something so simple that it can irritate the sh*t out of you.

Socks and Sandals. This is the devil.  If you wear socks and sandals, then your feet should be used as a target for an archery class.

If you are by chance an idiot who is guilty of anything listed above, then you’d better get off your ass and make some changes.  You can do it.  90% of any effort is getting started.

I am not usually a huge fan of Starbucks.

The only time of year that I frequently visit is during November and December when they add their holiday faves to the menu: the eggnog latte, the gingerbread latte, and the peppermint mocha. I am a sucker for the peppermint mocha; skim with no whipped cream please. The first sip I take always reminds me of Christmas.

Of course the other day, the barista told me that I can now get a peppermint mocha any time during the year, but I refuse to do this because I don’t want to tarnish its yuletide reputation.

So yesterday morning definitely warranted a Starbucks trip (after the weekend I had, I deserved 8 large coffees instead of the one I ordered). I had just finished paying when I realized the chalkboard behind the cashier had an unfamiliar drink drawn on it. What in the world is this “caramel bruleé”? I have always been a casual fan of the caramel macchiato, so this new latte sounded like it had potential to be delicious. I vowed to order one this morning. Not that I need to be wasting any more money that could be spent on Christmas gifts on daily Starbucks excursions.

Ho ho ho!

Mine did not look exactly like this one because of the skim and no whipped cream thing, but if you live near a Starbucks, I suggest you give it a try before it goes the way of the eggnog and gingerbread lattes at the end of the season. I ordered a tall just in case I hated it and now wish there was some way they could have served it to me in a bucket with a straw. I’m not sure what the exact ingredient difference is between this drink and a caramel macchiato, but the bruleé tastes smoother and sweeter. And just when I was trying to stop going to Starbucks every day.

Sorry, peppermint mocha…there’s a new drink in town!

HERE COMES THE BREAK!

Wow…the next three years were pivotal. For me, and many others, these were some of the best in part because of the emergence of funky breaks and in 1994 there were two records for me that summed it up best. First, the huge bass heavy sound of the Dust Brothers’ “Chemical Beats” (we now know them as the Chemical Brothers). There is no doubt this track helped guide the slower, groovier break scene to the spotlight. There is still another that has just stuck with me for years as being the sickest of 1994, a track off Jim Hopkins’ Twitch label and produced by artists Courtney Nielsen & DJ Spun under the name Central Fire. I included both versions of the track “Central Fire (Yes People It’s Time: Part 1 & 2).” Part 1 is especially good and it brings back great memories of some bad ass years in dance music.

BTW, can I tell you now that 1995 is going to be near impossible…so much good music came out it won’t be easy to narrow it down to one.

O local escolhido é a própria fazenda onde se realizará o evento, as espécies serão frutíferas e adequadas ao bioma local, e a data definida para a semana seguinte à festa visando utilizar números reais para os cálculos, cálculos esses que tem como base o GHG Protocol, norma internacional para a realização de inventário de emissões de gases do efeito estufa, além de fatores de emissão de GEE aprovados pela ONU, os mesmos parâmetros utilizados em projetos no âmbito do Mecanismo de Desenvolvimento Limpo previsto no Protocolo de Quioto.

Devo comentar que esse não é meu tipo de ação preferida, porém qualquer movimento na direção da consciência ambiental é bem vinda e deve ser espalhada. Não podemos esquecer que o problema ambiental não é apenas o efeito estufa, fato que tem sido comentado pelos meios de comunicação de massa, mas também a agressão a biodiversidade, a contaminação dos rios e terras e a desigualdade social. Não acho que a neutralização do carbono seja o suficiente, mas é além do que estamos vendo no dia a dia e valorizo a ação proposta.

Pac Man - who knew?

Uh oh – quick hide the Grand Theft Auto.

This past Saturday I went ahead and popped my cherry. My Tiesto cherry that is. And, boy oh BOY, did it feel good.

Tiesto played this past Saturday night at the Cow Palace arena in Daly City (San Francisco), and I could not have been happier with the show. He is a true professional, in every sense of the word. It was just him on stage, with huge screens behind him, strobe lights, confetti, confetti strings, smoke, and fire. Definitely a production in the best way.

Kaleidoscopes are still rip roaring and running through my head and I wish that I was back there right meow. Here is a great video I found on YouTube that kinda, just kinda, explains the amazingness that was my Saturday night.
