<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Unbelievable site that I recently discovered somehow (if I could retrace the site-to-site-to-site-<em>ad infinitum</em> itinerary, I promise I would.): <a href="http://www.kiddierecords.com"><strong>Kiddie Records Weekly: Classics from the Golden Age</strong></a>. Kiddie Records Weekly features a weekly selection of  vintage children&#8217;s album designs. Their archives are enormous, AND they stream all the audio! It&#8217;s pure old-school craziness! <p style="text-align:justify;">Răsplată pentru şoferii disciplinaţi. Autorităţile au hotărât ca, de anul care urmează, conducătorii auto care nu au făcut accidente să plătească mai puţin pentru poliţele de răspundere civilă auto (RCA). În schimb, şoferii care au fost implicaţi în accidente vor fi &#8220;taxaţi&#8221; în plus de companiile de asigurări.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Prin introducerea sistemului de bonus-malus, un şofer care nu a avut niciun accident va primi în primul an de asigurare o reducere de 10% pentru poliţă valabilă 12 luni şi 5% pentru poliţa valabilă 6 luni, limita maximă fiind de 50% din preţul RCA dacă acesta nu are niciun accident timp de şapte ani.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">În schimb, şoferii care au avut un accident vor plăti mai mult cu 45% în primul an de asigurare, iar cei cu două sau mai multe accidente vor plăti un RCA de două ori<br />
mai scump. Ceea ce înseamnă că şoferii care fac accidente vor plăti RCA mai scump de patru ori faţă de cei fără niciun accident timp de şapte ani. &#8220;Acest sistem este în avantajul celor mulţi, în condiţiile în care 90% dintre cei care încheie asigurare RCA nu produc niciun eveniment, potrivit estimărilor. Ceilalţi 10% dintre asiguraţi care creează probleme în trafic vor avea parte de malus &#8220;, a declarat Angela Toncescu, preşedintele Comisiei de Supraveghere a Asigurărilor (CSA).<!--more--></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">De exemplu, un conducător auto care în acest an a fost vinovat de producerea a două accidente, va plăti pentru RCA-ul cumpărat în 2010 un preţ de două ori mai mare decât tariful de bază afişat de firma de asigurări. În plus, pentru a ajunge &#8220;pe zero&#8221;, timp de patru ani va plăti un RCA mai scump cu anumite procentaje ce urmează să fie stabilite în curând de CSA şi să nu facă niciun accident în această perioadă, a explicat pentru Gândul Cătălin Stroe, director Divizia de Vânzări Alternative la Asirom Vienna Insurance Group.<br />

<p style="text-align:justify;">La rândul său, preşedintele CSA, Angela Toncescu, a mai spus că, de anul viitor, poliţele RCA vor fi emise numai în sistem electronic. &#8220;Nu va mai exista acel formular tip. Vor dispărea din pieţe şi intersecţii vânzătorii de asigurări RCA&#8221;, a spus Toncescu. În 2008, subscrierile din asigurări RCA au însumat 1,84 miliarde de lei.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Un posesor de Logan care cumpără în 2010 un RCA valabil un an va scoate din buzunare 650 lei. Dacă acest şofer nu face accidente timp de şapte ani, va primi un bonus maxim de 50%, adică va plăti doar 325 lei. Dacă, în schimb, el a provocat în 2009 cel puţin două accidente, atunci va plăti în 2010 un tarif de 1.300 lei.</p>

Ahora se  hablara sobre los cables de seguridad y de red, los cuales son componentes indispensables para la instalación de sistemas CCTV. Existen algunas opciones disponibles en el mercado. Se puede escoger desde cables de red de alta calidad, como CAT5e, RCA, RG6, y cables siameses.</p>
<p>A continuación se muestra algo de información sobre cada uno de ellos para que te puedas dar cuenta por ti mismo cuáles son los mejores para  seguridad y red. La categoría 5E, o CAT5e, es la versión mejorada de los cables Cat5, estos cables twisted pair son ideales para la integridad de alta señal a través de distancias cortas. RCA es el tipo de cable estándar para transmitir audio análogo y señales de video compuestas entre dos dispositivos. Los cables de red RG6 son cables coaxiales que tienen una amplia gama de aplicaciones tanto en el campo residencial como comercial. Esto principalmente  debido a los varios tipos de conectores que se pueden acoplar a sus terminaciones.</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve spent the last Wednesday with some classmates at the Saatchi Gallery and then visiting Jesse Wine at his workshop.</p>
<p>I found many interesting and eye-catching art pieces in the Gallery, some curious as the &#8220;Old Persons Home&#8221; by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, or the &#8220;Spiral Staircase&#8221; by Peter Coffin.</p>
<p>Later we met Jesse at his RCA workshop, in Battersea, where there was a little exhibition of students works. It&#8217;s been interesting visiting the various spaces and see how real artists work and create their art.</p>
<p>We then continued the night at a local pub drinking some beers and talking with Jesse&#8230;definitely we should have more days like that!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>$1200 bucks! Are they made out of gold!? I heard that from my buddy Earl once or twice. You know, the guy with bolts in his neck, two teeth, and tin ear. The one you warn your friends about. Yeah, that guy.</p>
<p>Earl told me about his cables: they have fifty-nines pure solid core copper electro-cryo-servo-cooked on his time machine. Everyone says they’re the bee’s knees. Oh… you’ve heard that one before? So have I.<!--more--></p>
<p>So what possibly could I have to say about these KCI Silkworm Plusses? Jeez! Ladies, be patient and let me take you on a bit of a journey! Close your eyes… OK, open them because if you don’t you can’t read my review. Your speakers are in the other room, people! Let’s be visual for a second and do some reading.</p>
<p>Let’s just say I have been around the block with cables. No really, I’ve probably had enough 1 meter interconnects and speaker cables to go all the way around the block. Twice.</p>
<p>Here are a few I’ve had in my system:</p>
<p>Cardas (golden reference ICs, golden cross speaker cables)<br />
Transparent (super, ultra, reference mm2 in my system – through opus on other systems)<br />
Tara Labs (The ONE),<br />
Goertz (Boa MI-3, Tourmaline ICs)<br />
Audioquest<br />
Virtual Dynamics (Master, revelation, and Genesis),<br />
Morrow Audio (MA3, MA4)<br />
Speltz Anti-cables<br />
Nordost (Valhalla)<br />
KCI Silkworm+</p>
<p>The pile of green needed to pay for some of these cables is pretty mountainous. Some are more expensive than others obviously. All of them, however, are over priced. Don’t get me started about Transparent and their turtle cables.</p>
<p>So yes, all over priced. Except for one: The KCI Silkworm+. If I told you about the construction of any of the other cables you would understand what I mean, markup on some of those cables is ridiculous. Again, call me if you want to know more.</p>
<p>So finally WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH THESE EFFIN SILKWORMS?</p>
<p>I am not easily impressed with cables. I’ve used a lot of them. Some do things better than others.  Ultimately it’s which cable does more of what is better. My reference has been Tara labs because they were extended and neutral, I didn’t feel like I was listening to the cable. They have excellent bass control, a wide/deep soundstage that is clear, solid and easily intelligible. Details are present and natural without roll-off. They WERE basically what a cable should be, and they did what a cable should do: get out of the freakin way! The Tara Labs were $3500 cables. Let me be frank: The KCIs are my new benchmark for interconnect performance.</p>
<p>The KCIs are the most beautiful-sounding cables I have ever listened to. John calls them warm, but I generally correlate warm cables with rolled-off highs. Highs are present, natural and beautifully articulate. The cable is fast without being forward. The soundstage is huge and breathes with uncompressed freedom. They have ebb and flow that is both engaging, relaxing, hefty, and emotionally involving. I have never, with all of the cables that I have listened to, been so emotionally charged by listening to my system. A cable has never made me smile, cry, or laugh quite like this relatively trivial upgrade has made me do. They are extremely lively, and capture the richness and vast harmonic structure of music unlike any other component I’ve had the privilege of listening to. They are clearer than my Tara Labs, and have a sound that I can only describe as “real”.</p>
<p>The Tara Labs may have a slightly deeper soundstage. But what is amazing is that I don’t feel like I am missing anything with the KCIs. Just getting more music.</p>
<p>I should probably make a comment about build quality. While I’m sure some of you will prefer Earl’s cables for their amazingness. I made that word up. It was needed to describe Earl’s cables. Good word. Anyways… The Silkworm+ build quality is superb. They come vacuum packed and in a nice set of overkill packaging. The cables themselves use the glorious Xhadow connectors, which in and of themselves are a work of audio art. The cables are solid and well built, not flimsy like Morrow cables. I was recommended not to move them once plugged in, as the solid 24karat gold tends to be finicky and hyper sensitive in terms of being moved.</p>
<p>John Prator, the genius behind the KCI curtain &#8212; or rather lackthereof &#8212; is a great guy, truly a good human being. He impressed me greatly with his kind heart and excellent service. When I purchased these cables he shipped them out and I got them a day later. He’s passionate and is too nice for his own good. I was offered no deals for writing this review. I was merely enamored by their performance and felt obligated to write something for him.</p>

I guess it doesn&#8217;t matter much since the idea of what is &#8220;best&#8221; is different to every ear.</p>
<p>But that hasn&#8217;t stopped me from trying! I will say that my amp sounds better than yours. And just to show you I&#8217;m not all talk, here is the schematic of my finest design. For those who know, they know this is special. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  This is my gift to you, the DIY guy with great ears.</p>
<p>If you disagree then tell me why. I don&#8217;t want to hear you whine &#8220;OH but it uses TUBES they have DISTORTION&#8221;. You are an idiot with tin ears. And don&#8217;t whine &#8220;OH but it only has 1.5 watts, it can&#8217;t drive my BOSE&#8221; Again, you are an idiot, I&#8217;m surprised you can read a schematic.</p>
<p>More appropriate questions would be along the lines of  &#8220;How does it sound with 0V bias on the input tube?&#8221; Or &#8220;Is there any hum with the low DCR power supply?&#8221; Or &#8220;How big of an improvement are the Silonex optocouplers compared to transformer volume controls, potentiometers or stepped attenuators?&#8221;</p>
<p>How can I say that this is the best sounding amp in existence? Well, I can not. I haven&#8217;t heard them all yet.  But compared to every amp I have heard so far&#8230; things look pretty good!</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Alla fine è andato tutto come doveva andare: la mia nuova Volkswagen Touran è dentro il garage, da ormai ventiquattr&#8217;ore, e che fatica entrarci, con le sue dimensioni complessive evidentemente maggiori della vecchia Opel Astra (l&#8217;indimenticata &#8216;Cometa&#8217;) e anche della Multipla di scorta dai larghi fianchi.<br />
E&#8217; in garage, e ho quasi paura ad andarla a trovare, che si rifiuti di accendere il motore, o di aprirmi le portiere.<br />
Che non mi riconosca come suo unico padrone, che non abbia ricevuto il mio imprinting, e non mi risponda quando la chiamerò con il nome che, alla fine, ho scelto per lei e che, alla fine di questo post, rivelerò.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Sono giunto in anticipo, giovedì pomeriggio, un po&#8217; in autobus un po&#8217; a piedi, alla concessionaria Volkswagen dove avevo appuntamento.<br />
&#8220;Stiamo montando la targa; è appena arrivata&#8221;, mi fa il giovane venditore. &#8220;L&#8217;ha fatta l&#8217;assicurazione ?, perchè altrimenti non posso farla uscire di qua&#8221;.<br />
&#8220;No, telefono subito in Co.Ta.Bo., a vedere se me la fanno per telefono: nel caso, un fax è sufficiente ?&#8221;.<br />
Mi dice di sì, per grazia ricevuta.<br />
&#8220;Pronto, Barbara, sono dal concessionario con l&#8217;auto nuova; mi puoi fare l&#8217;assicurazione e poi mandarmela qui via fax ?&#8221;.<br />
Mi risponde un po&#8217; altezzosa, anche perchè mi dice che è impegnata con altre due persone, ma poi mi promette di richiamarmi nel giro di venti o trenta minuti.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Per non essere d&#8217;intralcio esco dall&#8217;ampio spazio espositivo.<br />
Di fronte c&#8217;è un bel parco, verde, tranquillo, a cui si accede da un cancello con l&#8217;insegna di una bocciofila.<br />
Il sole batte di sbieco sugli unici giocatori, tre pensionati, due uomini e una donna, che si contendono il pallino, bocciando o andando a punto, mentre un arbitro, loro coetaneo, con molta sicurezza cammina su e giù, e dice spesso la sua; parlano tutti in dialetto ed è un piacere ascoltarli, anche quando uno dei giocatori, alla terza bocciata a vuoto, maledice il sole che lo abbaglia, o quando uno spettatore fra i pochi presenti esclama che, per andarci più vicino, al boccino, bisognava andarci sopra.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Barbara mi richiama puntuale e per prima cosa mi chiede la targa. Non ho tempo di rendermi conto della contraddizione nell&#8217;iter burocratico, e, con una breve corsa fino davanti all&#8217;automobile, sono in grado di dettargliela.<br />
Concordati i vari parametri, mi promette un fax nel giro di pochi minuti, ma si raccomanda di passare in giornata da lei con il certificato e il contrassegno dell&#8217;auto vecchia.<br />
&#8220;Il certificato ce l&#8217;ho, ma il contrassegno chissà che fine ha fatto: l&#8217;auto era incidentata, ed è stata lì da voi finché il capoofficina è riuscito a venderla, da un giorno all&#8217;altro&#8221;.<br />
&#8220;Allora bisogna che vai dai carabinieri a fare la denuncia di smarrimento ed entro domattina alle otto e mezza me la porti&#8221;.<br />
&#8220;Okay, comunque, se riesco, faccio un salto da te già stasera finchè ci sei&#8221;.<br />
E meno male che, anche senza i documenti necessari, in serata passo a trovarla, perchè questa volta mi accoglie con un bel sorriso e, dopo essersi informata meglio, mi dice che l&#8217;indomani (cioé ieri, venerdì), quando ritirerò l&#8217;auto dopo gli ultimi allestimenti dell&#8217;officina tecnica lì in Co.Ta.Bo., sarà sufficiente un&#8217;autocertificazione di smarrimento del contrassegno.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Come avevo previsto in un articolo precedente, ogni giornata è stata da inventare, in quest&#8217;ultimo periodo, allo scopo di affrontare con la dovuta razionalità e pazienza, e spirito di sacrificio, tutti i passaggi necessari per giungere in porto, cioè in garage, con il mio taxi nuovo.<br />
Non mi aspettavo però questa specie di collasso nervoso che, alla fine, mi ha colpito, permettendomi, si parlava la volta scorsa di grandi dormite autunnali, un record degno della birra preferita dalle scimmie, la famosa &#8216;Guinness dei primati&#8217;.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Nei miei progetti c&#8217;era di assaggiare l&#8217;attività già ieri sera; di rivivere, dopo quasi sei anni, l&#8217;emozione dei primi clienti trasportati, per poi rilassarmi oggi, sabato, in concomitanza con il mio turno di riposo.<br />
Ma verso l&#8217;ora di cena ero troppo stanco per affrontare le ultime sistemazioni al corredo della vettura, e fare una sua conoscenza sufficiente ad evitare figuracce nell&#8217;improvvisa necessità, che so, di azionare i tergicristalli, o di suonare il clacson, o di ribaltare un seggiolino posteriore per un carico ingombrante.<br />
E così sono andato, a bordo della silenziosissima e docile vetturona bianca e splendente, all&#8217;Ipercoop di Villanova, e, insieme ai pedanini di gomma, ho comprato un ottimo stracchino &#8216;Nonno Nanni&#8217; e verdure varie per una bella insalatona, che ho poi preparato e trangugiato a casa, accompagnandola con due bicchieri di vino rosso, ben cosciente di mettere fine così alla mia ultima giornata di questo periodo di transizione.<br />
Stasera finalmente avrò la calma per concedermi di scrivere a Valerio, il grande amico ritrovato, mi sono detto; è già due volte che glielo prometto su Facebook e ormai mi vergogno del ritardo.<br />
Ma prima, perchè no, ci può stare un&#8217;ora o due post-prandiale di sano torpore e tepore sotto le coperte.<br />
Per farla breve ho dormito, con una sola interruzione di un paio d&#8217;ore intorno alla mezzanotte (in stato poco più che vegetativo), dalle nove di ieri sera all&#8217;una e mezza di pomeriggio di oggi.<br />
Non sono mancati un paio di intensissimi sogni, ma, anziché d&#8217;oro, d&#8217;Argento, degni cioé dei più inquietanti film del regista che di nome fa Dario.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Posso testimoniare che da un&#8217;impresa di questo genere (parlo della dormita) si esce, nel fisico e soprattutto nel morale, come un pugile dopo una slavina di pugni.<br />
E dunque anche oggi ho dovuto ridimensionare il programma, pur leggero, che mi ero prefissato.<br />
Un sabato grigio, nelle poche ore di luce filtrata dalle finestre, a chiedermi segretamente dove vado a finire, continuando a dare corda a questo vortice di apatia che ultimamente sembra attrarmi a sé in un abbraccio mortale, nel farmi sentire potenzialmente sconfitto dalle incombenze quotidiane, come quei &#8216;gatti&#8217; di polvere che si accumulano sotto il letto e sotto il tavolo, sempre in anticipo rispetto al mio passaggio di stracci ed aspirapolvere.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Poi, senza farmi fretta o violenza, alla fine, ho ritrovato un po&#8217; di serenità, e la voglia di raccontare, e, come avevo promesso, di svelare il nome di battaglia della nuova vettura.<br />
E&#8217; un nome maturato qui sul blog, cosicché ne sarà particolarmente partecipe chi segue abitualmente queste mie confessioni.<br />
Avevo scritto in un post di averla vista, durante gli ultimi tempi, sempre ferma nel cortile della Co.Ta.Bo., con qualsiasi clima, come un cavallo del maneggio dove passo nei miei allenamenti podistici.<br />
E poi l&#8217;amico Alanford, nei suoi commenti, mi paragona sempre ad un cavaliere in groppa al suo destriero bianco.<br />
Insomma, l&#8217;ho chiamata affettuosamente &#8216;Cavallona&#8217;, anche in considerazione dell&#8217;aspetto un po&#8217; robusto, e della potenza dinamica (centocinquanta &#8230;cavalli), straordinaria per un motore a metano, grazie alle nuove tecnologie e alla doppia turbina.<br />
Ma all&#8217;anagrafe virtuale, dove bisogna essere più abbottonati, l&#8217;ho chiamata &#8216;Jolanda Cavalla&#8217;, accogliendo parzialmente così anche l&#8217;azzeccato consiglio espresso in un commento dall&#8217;altro caro amico Filippo (che, vista l&#8217;etimologia del suo nome, non potrà che apprezzare&#8230;).<br />
Ed, alla fine, visto che un&#8217;altra cara amica di blog, Silvana, è una fan di Roberto Vecchioni, non mi resta che concludere parafrasando alcuni famosi versi del cantautore milanese:</p>

<title><![CDATA[El gazpacho andaluz de Los Planetas]]></title>

<p>Unos Planetas al borde de la disolución, con problemas personales, con miembros de la banda en constante mutación, con una relación con su discográfica al filo del cisma, asumiendo que nunca llegarán a ser unas estrellas del <em>rock</em> nacional a la altura de Nirvana en el internacional. Tras el tropezón artístico y comercial de <a href="http://www.musicoscopio.com/los-planetas/biografia/">“Pop” (RCA, 1996)</a>, arrastrándose en conciertos infames, llenos de baches derivados de los problemas de salud entre algunos de los componentes del grupo&#8230; o sea, en el peor momento posible.</p>
<p>Se impone una reflexión y un alejamiento de todo lo que les rodeaba, y toman la decisión de irse a Nueva York a grabar un cancionero mucho más ambicioso del que jamás se habían atrevido incluso a sugerir. De nuevo cuentan, como en “Pop”, con la producción de Kurt Raskle, y si allí se revelaba su trabajo como un completo error, en este es uno de los mayores triunfos, dotando de empaque formal y cuidando hasta el más mínimo detalle de sonido en un disco que llevaría en el título un homenaje a <a href="http://www.bobdylan.com/">Dylan</a> con el extravagante “Una Semana en el Motor de un Autobús” (RCA, 1998).</p>
<p>Como explicarían en las entrevistas, el título se refiere a sus estados anímicos tras salir de todos los problemas antes referidos. Al renacimiento como grupo y personal. J y Florent siempre se encargaban de recordar que para ellos la banda no era un mero entretenimiento, como para tantos otros compañeros de generación. Que era su propia vida, y que la pasión desmedida que ponían en ella se reflejaba en el resultado final. Para bien y para mal.</p>
<p>El disco comienza de manera impactante con <em>“Segundo premio”</em>, que además fue el primer sencillo. Es curioso que fuese el último tema en ser compuesto y grabado, y que se debiese a que RCA, que estaba más o menos contenta con el resultado aunque les pareciera un disco incomprensible, consideraba que necesitaban algo más para redondear el álbum, dar con la canción estandarte del mismo. Nunca podrán estar demasiado agradecidos el grupo a esta presión. Con una melodía calcada a <em>“Promesses”</em> del francés Etienne Daho, y una letra de las que parecen al alcance de escribir cualquiera y que sólo consigue J, impresiona desde los primeros segundos por la potencia rítmica que imprime el recién incorporado batería Eric Jiménez (también en <a href="http://www.lagartijanick.com/">Lagartija Nick</a>). La crudeza tanto musical como de la letra, el desamor a flor de piel y la redención en forma de advertencia vengativa final, consiguen marcar a toda una generación de oyentes de música en español que cae rendida en masa a la <em>religión planetaria</em>. Es mucho más recomendable la versión del disco que la versión <em>radio edit</em> que estaba en el <em>single</em> sin la impresionante coda final de arreglos de cuerda y orgía rítmica en las manos de Eric. Pero en ese sencillo, la Cara B sirve de excelente complemento en la siniestra, violenta y brutal <em>“Algunos amigos”.</em></p>
<p>Tras este arrollador inicio, la cosa, lejos de detenerse, comienza a tomar impulso cuesta abajo y sin freno. Continúa con la energética, <em>powerpopera</em>, digna de las enseñanzas de unos Pavement o los Lemonheads más brillantes, “<em>Desaparecer</em>”, con otra letra llena de bilis y rabia, con una fiereza tan grande como los aullidos de lobos que se escuchan en su maraña de vibrantes guitarras. La función prosigue con un descanso lleno de belleza con <em>“La Playa”</em>. Recordando ligeramente a <em>“David y Claudia”</em> de su anterior disco, narra un pequeño cortometraje de celos y dudas en un amor de verano. Lo que cuenta es tan näif y profundo a la vez como pueda serlo una película de <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89ric_Rohmer">Eric Rohmer</a>.</p>
<p>Tras esto prosigue la <em><a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psicodelia">psicodélica</a></em>, preciosista y abstracta, “<em>Parte de lo que me debes”</em>, que parece beber del tan en boga por aquellos momentos <em>post-rock</em>, tanto en su vertiente de Chicago como del sello canadiense Constellation.</p>
<p>Hasta este momento no hay nada que objetar a un cuarteto de inicio magistral. Pero el análisis pormenorizado del mito hace que podamos observar la gran debilidad que aqueja a este disco. La plana <em>“Un mundo de gente incompleta”, </em>la intensa pero obvia, pura Serie B <em>garagera,</em> <em>“Ciencia ficción</em>”; la monótona y alargada <em>“Montañas de basura”</em> -casi una <em>conga-noise-</em>, y la espantosa <em>“Cumpleaños total”</em>, dotan de una debilidad bastante considerable a la columna vertebral del disco.</p>
<p>Por suerte para este, para ellos, y para nosotros, el tramo final impresiona y, no es difícil aventurar, es el que consigue el infeccioso poso que convierte a este disco en un tótem dentro de nuestra música, apareciendo sin falta en todas las listas de mejores álbumes de nuestro país. El paraíso químico de <em>“Laboratorio mágico”</em>; lo psicotrópico del abandono de <em>“</em><em>Toxicosmos</em>”; la aceptación de la derrota -o de la propia identidad- de <em>“Línea 1”</em> con su poesía de la cotidianeidad; la búsqueda interior, renacimiento incluido, de la majestuosa, y paradójicamente breve en sus casi diez minutos, <em>“La Copa de Europa”</em>, en la línea de unos <a href="http://www.spiritualized.com/">Spiritualized</a> pletóricos, dan forma a uno de los encadenados de grandes canciones menos habituales de la música en español de cualquier época.</p>
<p>¿Qué queda del culto a este disco? Sin duda es un disco excelente lastrado por una parte central que se acepta de mejor manera gracias a su tercio inicial y a la brillantez con la que termina. Las supuestas interpretaciones sobre la historia de que era un disco conceptual sobre un chico al que le dejaban, se perdía en fiestas y drogas para luego redimirse, la verdad, además de pilladas por los pelos, le hacen un flaco favor a la comprensión del disco por su simpleza, rozando lo idiota como planteamiento.</p>
<p>El disco seguirá apareciendo de forma invariable en cualquier listado de imprescindibles de la música española. ¿Podría considerarse a este disco como un gran disco? Sin duda. ¿Cómo el mejor de los andaluces? Los reparos explicados me hacen dudar mucho de esta tesis.</p>

<p><strong>Ingredientes:</strong></p>
<p>Pan del día anterior: 100 gramos<br />
Tomates rojos maduros: 800 gramos<br />
Pimientos verdes: 2 unidades<br />
Diente de ajo: 1 de pelado<br />
Aceite de oliva virgen: 1 DL.<br />
Vinagre: 4 cucharadas soperas<br />
Agua: 75 CL.<br />
Sal: 1 pellizco<br />
<strong>Preparación:</strong><br />
Tiempo de preparación: 14 minutos<br />
Se llena un bol con agua y se mete el pan dentro para que se remoje<br />
Por otro lado, se lavan y se pelan (lo último es opcional pero aconsejable) los tomates, el pepino y los pimientos procurando que no queden semillitas<br />
Una vez limpios se cortan a trocitos y se pasan por la batidora<br />
Cuando ya están las verduras batidas se añade un diente de ajo previamente pelado y se bate nuevamente<br />
A continuación se añade el pan que estaba en remojo, la sal, el vinagre, y el aceite<br />
Se bate todo de nuevo hasta que quede una mezcla bien homogénea y se añade el agua, poco a poco, hasta obtener la textura deseado (entre líquida y cremosa)<br />
Si es necesario se rectifica el punto de sal y se pasa por el pasapurés (aunque no es necesario, es aconsejable)<br />
Se pone el gazpacho en la nevera y se refrigera durante al menos 4 horas. Si se prepara como bebida, se pueden añadir algunos cubitos de hielo<br />
Se sirve bien frío en vasos o copas</p>

<p>Meeting Carlo Rivetti in Domus 2 years back was as exciting as seeing CP company&#8217;s products till today, garments of truly classic future  without Martians and Aliens. Its a  brand-laboratory that undertakes research with passion and endless curiosity in every corner of the world , ever since work on Mille Miglia Jacket and Ice jacket  has drawn every ones attention. An exhibition recently Curated and designed by Aitor Throup (ITS#  winner) . “To celebrate both the past and future of this jacket the company is hosting a special exhibition has opened up at the RCA . The exhibition features the new design as well as 20 Mille Miglia jackets selected from the C.P. Company archive.”</p>

<p>First things first. I am a Strokes fan. Check that. I am a HUGE Strokes fan. Dating back to the first time playing at Arlene&#8217;s Grocery way back when then getting my filthy mitts on <em>The Modern Age EP, </em>I was smitten with this band who quickly became the pride of New York and the purveyors of what would be the return of new wave whether they liked it or not. With the ten year anniversary of the seminal debut record <em>Is This It </em>approaching, it&#8217;s about time we get an idea of what lurks in the mind of the face of the franchise so to speak in Julian Casablancas. I was never particularly taken by the Albert Hammond Jr. records and Fab&#8217;s Little Joy project left me cold but when the news came about Julian taking a dip into the solo pool, I was interested.</p>
<p>If you, like me, were bored to tears by that Converse-sponsored earache-inducing error-in-judgment involving Julian, Santigold and Pharrell called <em>My Drivethru</em>, I can say for certain it&#8217;s okay to place your faith back in the shaggy-haired one. It appears Julian has traded in his lo-fi sound for a cleaner, much more polished electronic pop sound that almost sounds like he&#8217;d been listening to the first Electronic record and been taking notes. Needless to say I am highly in favour of the first track taken from Julian&#8217;s solo debut record <em>Phrazes For The Young</em> called <em>11th Dimension. </em>For most, this would be considered quite a change in direction in sound but here it seems to suit Julian just fine.</p>
<p>The record is due out 3 November via Cult/RCA and you can be sure there will be a review so before I waste more space waxing poetic over this track, let me simply say that it&#8217;s quite specatacular and you should play to your heart&#8217;s content over and over. By the way, New York City cops still aren&#8217;t too smart.</p>

<div id="_mcePaste">Given the fact that IT has shaped itself into a reasonable industry only for around 2 decades or so, the number of Quality systems, processes and procedures that have been implemented, discussed and scratched are amazingly high. Standards such as ISO9000 series, CMMi, Six Sigma, TQM, Lean, TPM, JIT have all been lapped up by the software industry at an amazing speed. On the one hand while this is a good thing from the standardization and quality perspective, it poses the question of cost incurred in these processes and the benefit derived there-of.</div>

<div>The simplest way to start is to ask the basic question: &#8220;<em>Why do I want to implement a Quality System?</em>&#8221; If you are using the standard as a marketing gimmick (a plaque on the wall; a logo on a website), or just because a customer requires it, then the standard will be a burden, not a benefit. If the honest reason for implementing the standard is improvement, then it can truly help your organization become better. Again, if certification is the only goal then you may gain certification but miss the benefit of the standard. An organization can employ the standard, and benefit from it, without ever seeking certification.</div>
<p>
The purpose of a Quality System is to create an internal control system through defining and documenting processes with well-written procedures so that a company can address a few key areas such as Compliance, Operational Needs, Manage Risks, Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvements. For e.g. complying with the law of the land is a basic function of an organization and so is ensuring that the activities fundamental to the organization&#8217;s success are properly guided by the management and are performed in a consistent way that meets the organization&#8217;s need. While processes and procedures themselves may not demonstrate compliance, well-defined and documented processes (i.e. procedures, training materials) along with records that demonstrate process capability can make evident an effective internal control system and compliance to regulations and standards.</p>

<div><strong>Standards/Processes &#8211; How many?</strong></div>

<div id="_mcePaste">The question that pops up is whether to adopt any specific Quality Standard or whether to adopt multiple standards. This is interesting as in the past decade companies have adopted more than one standard and have got themselves certified for these standards. Companies first comply themselves with one standard, then come up with a mapping strategy between this standard and the next standard that they want to get certified on and add more processes / procedures to fill the gaps. This mapping leads to making things a bit bulky for both standards. Things become even bulkier when the company tries to add another standard.</div>
<p>Creating dozens and dozens of procedures is usually not helpful.  In fact, such an approach can create more problems than it resolves.  They can’t be found, they aren’t used, they aren’t updated, and a glut of uncontrolled copies are scattered throughout the organization. This is exactly what happens when Quality Standards are imposed on businesses without due deligence.</p>
<div>The basic reasons for which Standards and Processes are defined are actually lost and questions like &#8220;What processes are required, which of these require high control and where is the improvement required?&#8221; are often lost in the rat race to acquire certifications. The futility of this whole cycle has been aptly demostrated by the Satyam fraud, where despite all the processes in place, the basic underlying deficiency could not be tracked, that too by highly experienced auditors.</div>
<p>
On the other end of the spectrum are a set of companies, that have not gone for certifications, but instead have chosen to pick and choose the best of the processes from various standards based on their applicability to their businesses. E.g. of such companies are Oracle Corporation and Microsoft Corporation, both of which have stayed away from formal CMMi certification but do get an external auditor to benchmark once in a while how they are placed viz-a-viz the industry. Of course, such a strategy works well for product based companies rather than services company which needs to assure clients that it has the process to handle their requirements, but what this shows is that Quality Standards are not required for certification alone, but for a specific benefit. So what is the benefits that the organization plans to derive decides what Quality Standards are to be followed.</p>

<div><strong>Standards/Processes &#8211; Lean Methodology</strong></div>

<div id="_mcePaste">Lean thinking is an emerging methodology to reduce wasteful processes. It is more a mindset of viewing things in the right light, focussing, removing waste, and increasing customer value. It is predominantly another manufacturing concept that is slowly beginning to make an entry into the IT industry.</div>
<p>Lean processes tend to retain the processes that add value to the customer while cutting out those processes that do not. The simple fact is that if a process does not add value or generate revenue then it simply adds cost!! Lean Processes follow 5 basic steps:</p>

<li>Identify activities that create value.</li>
<li>Determine the sequence of activities.</li>
<li>Eliminate activities that do not add value.</li>
<li>Ensure that products/projects are available when the consumers want them.</li>
<li>Continuously improve processes.</li>
</ol>

<div id="_mcePaste">So for e.g. suppose a company is providing an IT support to a customer and bills the company for the time and material spent on providing the support, then it might not require the overhead of a completly bulky project planning and tracking mechanism. Instead they might want to have a task tracking and issue tracking mechanism with minimal project planning aspects involved on a day-to-day basis.</div>
<div>Six Sigma on the other hand states:</div>

<div id="_mcePaste">So while the former considers non-value addition as a waste, the later considers non-conformance to defined standards as a waste. Lean Operations redefines waste as anything the customer won&#8217;t pay for—everything from clerical errors to idle machine operators.</div>
<div>The process identifies seven types of waste:</div>

<li>Waiting—for products, personnel, parts, the availability of machines;</li>
<li>Transportation time—for equipment and parts needed for repairs;</li>
<li>Processes—duplicate data entry, inefficient stocking;</li>
<li>Excessive inventory;</li>
<li>Unnecessary motion by people and machines;</li>
<li>Overproduction;</li>
<li>Correction of defects or service errors.</li>
</ol>

<div id="_mcePaste">Given this, it might be worthwhile to revisit the Quality Standards and apply Lean processes on them to prune out all those non-value adding activities. Note that not all of Lean processes might be applicable per se to the Software Industry, but those that do could result in significant benefits.</div>

<div id="_mcePaste">The common belief seems to be that implementing Quality Standards can create a bureaucratic documentation nightmare with volumes of complicated procedures that require heavy oversight and manpower to create and maintain. That is not really the case. In fact, implementing Quality Standards can actually streamline and simplify your documentation/record creation and management. For e.g. suppose we consider ISO:9001, there are only 6 mandatory procedures for the same namely:</div>

<li>Internal Audit (per ISO 9001 clause 8.2.2)</li>
<li>Control of Non-Conformities (per ISO 9001 clause 8.3)</li>

<li>Preventive Action (per ISO 9001 clause 8.5.3)</li>
</ol>

<div id="_mcePaste">As it is difficult for most organizations to get by with these six procedures alone, they add more procedures over and above these. But, the fact that these are the only required procedures should send a message that, despite the perception of the opposite, ISO 9001 is not about tons of procedures. The same generally holds good for other Quality Standards.</div>

<div>What actually creates the bulk is usually the records. For e.g. ISO 9001 has 21 mandatory records to go with the 6 procedures. All organizations going for the certification either have these records in place or are in the process of getting them in place. But, the key fact here is not having the records, but what is done with these records? The ultimate goal of a Quality Standard is improvement and one key to improvement is record keeping that captures important data related to performance metrics. So a simple question that any organization needs to ask is &#8220;<em>What do we do with the records? What are the improvements that have been triggered by the metrics captured in these records?</em>&#8221; If there is no visible or quantifiable improvement in the metrics, then these records and the process associated with these records need to be re-looked at both from their usability aspects as well as their capturing aspects.</div>

<div>There are other problems that usually bloat up standards and processes. Simply put, they are hard to find, hard to read, not used, not followed, too long, poorly written, poorly formatted, out of date, and not accurate. Wow!! That&#8217;s a lot of baggage, but the truth is not all of the above said are simple ramblings or cribbings, but some of these are facts. Let&#8217;s examine some of the stark realities that lead to some of these.</div>

<div id="_mcePaste">Who would you get to frame the processes? Too often the task of developing and writing important organizational documentation falls to those who have little experience or training in this area. They may have extensive process and organizational knowledge, but without proper experience or training, this expertise gets translated very poorly into a document.</div>

<div>The end result is something that is hard to understand and implement and in some cases leading to the actual reason of the process being lost in translation. Identifying key resources like the Process Owner, the Technical Writer, Process User is the first step in ensuring to avoid thne same. You can not realistically expect the process expert or process owner to magically transform into a technical writer and expect positive results. It also results in reducing the cost incurred in maintaining of these processes, time spent on training and getting a buy-in on these procedures.</div>

<div id="_mcePaste">Most of the quality trainings are done in bulk and are more used by people for dozing off rather than to actually inculcate the processes mentioned. Usually hands-on training and training on the relevant pieces at appropriate times ensure that the processes are better understood. Guides and mentors to explain the usability and the benefit of the processes great enhance the valueadded by the processes.</div>
<p>One of the major irritants that I have faced with Quality Processes is when I am told to follow a process without knowing how it benefits me. It makes it all so easy when I know the value I get from following a process. Improper or Inadequate training has other drawbacks, as people in order to ensure that they are not flagged off for following processes tend to create records without following or understanding the actual process. This most of the times results in additional non-required records and documentation and again adds no real value at all.</p>

<div id="_mcePaste">Usually best practices from one area are tried to be generalized and pushed into other areas. While in some cases it is good, in most cases it just is there an overhead adding little if any value. For e.g. RCA is a great tool for finding long term solutions to recurring issues and issues which arise late in the product lifecycle. But then process organizations tend to push RCA into all stages including the design stage. Imagine in the design stage when teams are trying out the feasibility and benefits of different solutions and the process asks them to do an RCA to find out why the best design was not the first design to be tried out!!</div>

<div><strong>Knee Jerk Reactions</strong></div>

<div id="_mcePaste">Sometimes some gap in the process when highlighted as an audit finding or when is criticized by observers or stakeholders leads to knee jerk reactions from the organizations. They tend to have more processes in place to avoid this situation without completely weighing in the pros and cons of the same. Over a period of time such processes not only add costs to the organizations, they also tend to provide little or no value.</div>

<div id="_mcePaste">With the advent of internal audits, the frequencies of these audits has been increased highly. Most organizations have quarterly audits and the emphasis of these audits has moved over from the actual improvement due to the process to the simple verification of records.</div>

<div>Part of the problem is due to the fact that the increased frequency means that more auditors have to be identified with little or no training which means that all they can do is follow instructions for verfication of records. Even for competent auditors the load of auditing projects frequently means that unless something is overtly out of place, they tend to just verify the existing records. Funnily enough, when it comes to verification of the records, the auditors approach it in a very hawkish manner as well. It must be understood that auditors have to perform serveral duties and have to act as &#8220;Watch Dogs&#8221; but not as &#8220;Blood Hounds&#8221;. Several enlightened firms of auditors have readily agreed to adopt ideas of process simplification, but some conservative members do not show the same willingness and need to be persuaded.</div>

<div id="_mcePaste">The Standards and Processes are the basic building blocks of the performance of an organization. Over a period of time, they tend to clutter and grow in size and actually become an overhead instead of a value-addition. Companies need to constantly prune and re-define them to be of maximum value and a recession gives an added incentive to cut through all the redundant and non-value adding processes and emerge out as a lean and mean organization ready to face the competition.</div>

Altrimenti &#8211; come scrive il settimanale Il Salvagente nel numero in edicola da domani, di cui vi anticipiamo il servizio di apertura dell&#8217;inchiesta &#8211; il rischio, per l&#8217;utente, è quello di trovarsi completamente disorientato e pagare più del necessario la sua polizza.</div>
<p>Parliamo del <a href="http://www.tuopreventivatore.it/">preventivatore Rc-auto</a>, strumento messo in piedi dal ministero dello Sviluppo economico (Mise) e curato dall&#8217;Isvap, l&#8217;Istituto di vigilanza sulle assicurazioni, che compara le offerte di tutte le compagnie presenti sul mercato italiano.<br />
<strong><br />
Un confronto sulle tariffe ufficiali</strong></p>
<p>Il confronto generato dal sistema si basa sulle tariffe ufficiali e non su quelle effettive praticate in agenzia. Che, dunque, possono risultare più alte perché non contemplano né gli sconti, né particolari convenzioni che fanno abbassare il premio assicurativo. E questi benefici si possono ottenere solo recandosi presso le singole agenzie, come correttamente viene spiegato agli utenti. Anche perché tramite il sistema non è possibile acquistare la polizza.</p>
<p>A prima vista quindi la foto scattata dal preventivatore è alquanto distante dalla realtà. Orienta ma non risolve.  Ma non è tutto. Andando a spulciare le “tariffe ufficiali” generate dal calcolatore, come ha fatto il Salvagente nelle ultime settimane, qualcosa &#8211; di troppo &#8211; non torna: a volte i prezzi sono molto più alti di quelli che si ricavano andando a interrogare i preventivatori delle singole compagnie; in altri casi i parametri previsti dal sistema escludono di fatto alcune offerte; infine, quasi misteriosamente, il sistema spesso non fornisce l&#8217;offerta della compagnia di provenienza dell&#8217;utente stesso.</p>
<h4>Compara o confonde?</h4>
<p>Di “alcune discrepanze riscontrate” parlano le Generali al Salvagente mentre molto più netto è James Brown, amministratore delegato di Direct Line: “Rileviamo che il preventivatore non è in grado di informare sempre correttamente il consumatore”.<br />
Convinti che un sistema effettivamente in grado di poter fornire all&#8217;assicurato, in un&#8217;unica soluzione, tutte le soluzioni previste dal mercato sia molto utile per i consumatori, abbiamo messo alla prova il sistema Mise-Isvap.</p>
<h4>Lo abbiamo messo alla prova</h4>
<p>Ci siamo messi nei panni di un 34enne romano, coniugato senza figli, con una classe di merito di tutto rispetto (la prima), che, a un mese dalla scadenza del proprio contratto Rc-auto, ha messo alla prova il preventivatore unico per verificare di poter spuntare un&#8217;offerta più invitante di quella della sua compagnia.</p>
<p>Tra i campi da compilare, c&#8217;è il tipo di guida: libera, con la quale in caso di incidente la garanzia coprirà chiunque sia il conducente, o esperta, scegliendo la quale ci prendiamo la briga di dichiarare che al volante non ci sarà mai un conducente di età inferiore ai 26 anni. È il nostro caso: selezioniamo “esperta”, proseguiamo riempiendo tutti i campi (circa 60) e dopo pochi minuti nella nostra mail arriva il responso dell&#8217;interrogazione.</p>
<h4>Non regge alla comparazione</h4>
<p>Nel frattempo, abbiamo anche interrogato, per lo stesso profilo, i comparatori “privati” di seisicuro.it e di assicurazione.it.</p>
<p>A questo punto, in mano abbiamo tre stampate e cominciamo a vedere che qualcosa non va. Ovviamente le offerte dei preventivatori “privati” sono effettive (è un prezzo “vero” che possiamo aggiudicarci direttamente) e non “orientative” come quelle del sistema Mise-Isvap. Tuttavia c&#8217;è dell&#8217;altro: alcune offerte non le ritroviamo sulle soluzioni scaturite dal preventivatore “pubblico” e poi la tariffa Direct Line viene calcolata a 950,34 euro, quando sugli altri due comparatori si aggira tra i 330 e i 360 euro.</p>
<h4>Quello che ci dice il sito della Direct line</h4>
<p>Possibile che la differenza stia tutta negli sconti? Proviamo a interrogare direttamente il sito di Direct Line e la tariffa che ci spetterebbe è quasi la metà di quella Isvap. Qualcosa che non va c&#8217;è tanto che, dopo aver riconsiderato tutti i preventivi, la compagnia, per bocca del suo amministratore delegato, James Brown dice al Salvagente: “Al preventivatore unico Isvap va il nostro appoggio ma dovrà essere migliorato per mantenere fino in fondo la promessa di offrire in modo semplice una fotografia reale e sempre aggiornata di tutte le offerte delle compagnie”.</p>
<h4>La scelta dei parametri</h4>
<p>Un altro nodo da sciogliere è la tariffa della compagnia di provenienza del nostro utente: non figura. Questa misteriosa assenza ci è stata anche segnalata da due nostri lettori: Antonio da Roma e Grazia da Napoli: perché non ritroviamo mai l&#8217;offerta di rinnovo della nostra assicurazione?<br />
Giriamo la domanda all&#8217;Isvap che però alza le mani: “Se questo accade è un fatto puramente casuale. Non ci sono campi che possono escludere la tariffa della compagnia di provenienza. Potrebbe essersi magari verificato un problema di connettività tecnica”.</p>
<h4>Molte assenze ingiustificate</h4>
<p>Le assenze “ingiustificate” non sono finite. Nel file con le offerte inviatoci dall&#8217;Isvap non è presente il leader del mercato italiano, le Generali. Andiamo direttamente a interrogare il sito del Leone di Trieste: i parametri immessi sono gli stessi, sul tipo di guida scegliamo “l&#8217;esclusiva coniugi”, simile alla “guida esperta”, visto che in famiglia i conducenti sono solo marito e moglie. Il preventivo Generali segnala 540 euro. Chiediamo il perché direttamente alla compagnia fornendo tutti i parametri utilizzati per il confronto: “L&#8217;esclusione dalla lista generata dal preventivatore unico deriva dal fatto che noi non prevediamo la condizione guida esperta ma solo l&#8217;esclusiva coniugi. Tuttavia alcune discrepanze ci sono”.</p>
<h4>L&#8217;Isvap dice che va tutto bene</h4>
<p>Perché tutte queste anomalie? Dall&#8217;Isvap, forse in maniera troppo frettolosa, si chiamano fuori: “Per noi il rischio di alterazione è scongiurato alla radice Il sistema è un semplice collettore: riceve le interrogazioni dell&#8217;utente, le gira ai data base delle singole compagnie e poi una volta ricevute le risposte le inoltra all&#8217;utente.”.</p>
<p>È possibile che, per esigenze di rendere omogeneo il confronto tra i circa 70 gruppi assicurativi operanti in Italia, la scelta dei campi da riempire su tuopreventivatore.it abbia sacrificato qualche elemento di troppo?</p>
<p>La posizione dell&#8217;Isvap è categorica: “Tutto è migliorabile, ma noi abbiamo censito tutti i parametri utilizzati dalle compagnie per costruire i loro listini. Non abbiamo sacrificato nulla”.<br />
Sarà proprio così? Forse no, visto che è bastato un semplice parametro taglia fuori dal nostro confronto un big come le Generali. Come dire, a voler essere buoni il sistema compara ma confonde anche tanto.</p>
