Megan and Brad had almost been together for 10 years when Brad popped the question to Megan, whilst they were on, what Megan describes as a “Christmas holiday from hell.” It doesn’t sound great but Brad’s proposal wasn’t only filled with love, it also had a sprinkling of magic it seems.
Megan describes the proposal, “The weather was horrible and I had the heaviest head cold in the world. Brad was trying his best to make everything better but nothing was working. We had spent the whole day wondering the shops, he encouraging me to buy things, thinking good retail therapy fixes everything, but not this time. We went back to our apartment, I had a bath to try and make myself feel and look better. When I got out all the lights were dimmed and Brad was standing on the balcony. He said ‘could you please come out here darling?’ I thought to myself, ‘cant he see I am sick? I just want to lay down.’  I stumbled out, looking my worst! And then he said ‘I have something that will make your holiday better’ and with that he got down on one knee! I screamed and cried !!! And the next morning I woke up to sunshine and no cold!!”

Lauren and Chris thought it was about time they tied the knot and as their arrangements for their wedding got underway both decided this was going to be the best day of their lives. With a short six months to organise the wedding all the way from Brisbane, they quickly settled on a location and their outfits… everything else fell into place with help from their family.

Lauren tells us “the wedding arrangements were largely motivated by the bridal gown and groom’s suit we had chosen. I wanted to wear a gown that was elegant and flattering but not too revealing and Chris wanted to be comfortable (and not hot!). The ‘vintage-inspired’ wedding theme allowed us to choose a dress and suit that satisfied these prerequisites and also gave the guests a fun time trying to dress to the theme.”

“It makes ne feel old to think one younger guest thought Madonna was vintage!” She laughs.

The wedding ceremony was at St Bonaventures, a beautiful old church in Leura – the couple had spent some time in the church whilst growing up in the area. Lauren adds, “it was cosy, with some lovely lead-lighting throughout.”

The reception was held at the Blue Mountains Manor House (Mt Victoria) and is beautifully suited to vintage style events. Lauren tells us that it was an added bonus that the venue had accommodation for all their travelling guests, which was the large majority of the party. “This allowed guests to party on late into the night without worrying about how to get back to their accomodation. The reception went from 6pm to around 2am.” Lauren remembers.

We asked Lauren about her talented photographer Sam from Jetty Blue Images, she told us “I am still dumbfounded by how lucky we were to find Sam. I had been hunting over the net for a photographer who would do photography for just the ceremony and some portraits afterwards. There was fairly little correspondence between Sam and I (I secured the booking and sent through some wedding photos I liked), and I only met her 1:00pm the day prior to the wedding. But half an hour was all she needed to get the details about the ceremony,reception, bridal party and our ideas for photo locations. She knows how to command a crowd, and really, I can’t think of anything she could have done better. We were all so impressed with the results. Fantastic!”

Lauren couldn’t have been happier with the day and her new husband. She told us “My fiancé is not a huge fan of public displays of affection (neither am I) but our wedding day was an exception, and he just made me feel so special and loved. His vows, speech and his determination to do the complicated first dance (despite our short training time) show how dedicated he was to making the day perfect! He is the best!

Considering that we have been together such a long time, we were thinking do we even need to get married? I can assure you that it is such a special and lovely experience that you will never forget, and made our relationship even stronger!”

Table number 1, table number two, table number three….that’s boring, huh?  Serrano Table!!! Poblano Table!!! Cayenne Table!!!  Muy caliente, no?  I love it when couples opt to name their reception tables NOT numbers, especially if when they name their tables after peppers!.  It’s brings a little interest, keeps it thematic, makes things spicy; it’s perfect for a Santa Fe wedding!

I had the pleasure of breaking out the watercolors and creating a fun suite of pepper table names and illustration, fun, right?

This lovely wedding took place at the Hotel St. Francis, a charming spot for intimate nuptials.  The ceremony was al fresco, on the patio and we dressed up the wooden gates with a simple ivory swag and lovely floral clusters created by Artichokes and Pomegranates.

The bride and groom were so stoked for the fabulous mariachi band…and I’ll admit, I was singing along too- I LOVE mariachis!

“I love Sundays,” Paula smiles. “We decided to make a weekend of it, so we celebrated our engagement party on the Friday, had lunch on the Saturday and the wedding on Sunday.”

Paula chose her dress from couturier Karen Willis Holmes‘ Paddington (Brisbane) store, after seeing her designs in a number of bridal magazines. “Karen’s style is very old world and feminine, I loved her designs from the moment I saw them,” says Paula. She tried on about five gowns before finding the one that set her heart aflutter. “I adored the sequinned bodice,” she smiles. “And we made changes to the skirt, which just finished the whole dress beautifully.” Paula topped off her looked with a fascinator from Paddington Brides and a gorgeous pair of peeptoe shoes from Wittner. She and her bridesmaids carried elegant bouquets of white peonies.

Photographer Vellum Studios captured the day’s precious moments in their signature, relaxed style. After the ceremony, guests dined on seafood and French champagne at Sails Restaurant. “Our guests said it was the best food they had ever tasted!” exclaims Paula. The meal was finished off with a deliciously moist orange and almond cake from Cakes by Christine.

Congratulations Paula and Timothy! We wish the newlyweds every happiness.

It was when I moved to Santa Fe when the wedding planning took me by full force.  Little flower gigs led to little wedding planning gigs, which led to bigger wedding planning gigs and then, after a while, it was time to get a business card! Now I am fully in love with all aspects of event design.  Floral design, which is still my first love, is something that I do on occasion, and still treasure every moment of finding the perfect, God-created blossom to shine in the perfect bouquet.

Why am I telling you all of this?  Well, my brother was married last summer and my gift to him was to design all of his wedding flowers.  I wasn’t allowed to wedding-plan; bless their hearts, they actually wanted me to be able to sit down and eat and be a part of the day! So, I had the pleasure of scouring the San Diego flower market and designing my little heart out!

As is tradition in our family, my grandmother and jeweler extraordinaire, Alice Abrams, designed the wedding rings.  It is so special to all of us that have been gifted with such lovely treasures to wear her fine art everyday!

The ceremony space was my favorite part to design.  The couple opted for a circular ceremony to give a true feeling of community and to be surrounded by their loved ones. To tie in with the common thread running through the words of the ceremony, “His banner over me is LOVE,” we created a chuppah/ canopy to draw focus to the center of the space that was viewed from all angles.  To match with the playfulness and contemporary look of the stationery design, I strung Billy Balls on thread to accent the sides of the canopy. It was such a fun touch!

There were so many wonderful vintage items that the bride sourced.  I just love these plates!

My mom and harvested about a thousand succulents from San Diego and Santa Fe. They were everywhere!

And finally a sparkler send-off! (…no scars from that one!)  This was a beautiful night, filled with so much love; I get goose-bumps when I think about it.  I am so honored to be part of such a loving (and growing) family!

After a whole week of rain, Sydney got some relief with a sparkling sunny day… a day where a Chloe said ‘I do’ to marrying the love of her life, Brendan. The couple couldn’t have been happier celebrating with their close family and friends, some of who flew out from France, on the beautiful Balmoral beach.

The ceremony was held on Rocky Point Island at Balmoral Beach Sydney. “This is where I grew up and went to school. Both Brendan and I live in Mosman and spend a lot of time at Balmoral beach so the location held a special lure for both of us,” says Chloe.

The reception was at the beautiful Bather’s Pavilion which overlooks their familiar playground, Balmoral beach. Chloe tells us there is another reason they chose this elegant venue for their wedding reception: “the head chef Serge Dansereau is French and his cuisine is always exciting – My family is of French heritage and it was fun to design a menu with a chef who understands both French and Australian ingredients with such profundity. The sommelier is also excellent and the wines recommended were some of the nicest we’ve had!”

Chloe tells us that their reception was very much about the cuisine experience, “We wanted guests to have a ‘restaurant quality’ experience instead of the standard ‘chicken or beef’ wedding fare. We worked closely with Serge to design the menu and even more closely with the sommelier to select the wines – there were 2 selections of red and white for both entrée and main, we also served French champagne and my family rosé (Domaine Faverôt) at the ceremony.”

This couple met  over a few pints of Guiness in Ireland, where they both had moved from different parts of the world to work. One day Marc (Sydney boy) surprised Jastyna (Polish girl) by parking his huge truck outside her office with “Justyna I love you! Will you marry me?” plastered on the side. Of course she said yes!

Marc and Justyna couldn’t decide between Poland and Sydney for their wedding destination so chose to have two weddings enjoying the best of both worlds. The Sydney wedding was their first celebration and, as they were both still working in Ireland, they had the wonderful Girl Friday Weddings organise the day for them. They did a marvellous job choosing the venue, photographer and more…

Their wedding was held at the beautiful Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour, a prime position for their Polish guests, many of them in Sydney for their first time, to enjoy the spectacular CBD and city skyline.

“The reception took place inside the museum’s brand new Terrace Room and was heavily geared towards the Polish contingent. Think bottles of vodka on every table, shots every ten minutes and traditional Polish wedding games involving groping of flesh and a bit of messy dress up! And that was just a taste of things to come for the couple who would be doing it all again in Justyna’s home town a couple of weeks later!”

They wanted their wedding to be simple. “We didn’t choose any particular theme,” said Yeemun. “It was more about the food and drinks and the people. As I’m Chinese …eating and drinking is a big part of our culture. The ceremony was a mixture of East and West. We did the traditional bride walking down the aisle, and also a mini chinese tea ceremony to acknowledge and pay respect to my culture and heritage.”

“By Chinese traditions I should have worn red… but I didn’t!” says Yeemun. She instead opted for a beautiful full-length satin and chiffon nude apricot gown. “I brought the dress at a local shop in Cremorne called Chic Collection. I remember it was raining heavily and I decided to pop into the shop to get some inspiration but I ended up seeing a dress I liked and which suited me perfectly… they made it especially in my size in the colour of my choice.” For her bouquet, Yeemun chose her favourite flower: white ranunculus, mixed with freesia for the gorgeous fragrance.  The couple chose to forego complex table decorations in favour of simplicity. “We wanted our decorations to fit with the old English feel of the venue, so we chose a mix of red ranunculus with lilac sweetpea… I needed to incorporate red into the wedding as this is a good luck colour in Chinese. Then simple clear candles surrounding the centre piece.” After pre-dinner drinks on the terrace, guests dined on a sumptuous three course meal, followed by individual wedding cakes. The couple also indulged their guests in a cigar/cognac lounge area. “We wanted somewhere so that people could mingle after dinner.” said Yeemun. “This was set up on a Harbour terrace with stunning evening view of the Sydney Harbour and City lights.”

Yeemun and Ian spent their wedding night at the Hilton, Sydney. They haven’t spent their Honeymoon anywhere yet, but they’d like to go back to Hawaii or visit Brazil. Their plans for the future are to “Live life and Be Happy”.

Mike and Tara’s journey to their wedding day started like a fairytale! Tara arrived home to a trail of candles leading up to her room and a note on her bed with instructions to meet her limo outside at 7pm. Tara’s limo arrived and whisked her off to her waiting prince wearing a suit and holding red roses. He led her to a clearing filled with candles and asked her to be his wife.  Tara remembers Mike had the engagement ring “just floating around in his pocket all night!”

After an obvious ‘yes!’ and no doubt some tears of joy and excitement, Mike took his new fiancé to the Chocolate Boutique for dessert and celebrations with their dearest friends.

With a proposal like this – their wedding had to be positively dreamy… They organised their wedding in sunny Fiji!

Their wedding was a mix of tropical beach and DIY, but most of all relaxed and fun. “We were married in Fiji so it was hard to avoid the whole ‘beach wedding’ thing but I also tried to incorporate as many fun DIY ideas where I could to make it more our own” says Tara.

“My dress was made by a dressmaker who is also a friend of mine. Stephanie lives eight hours away from me (by car) so there were many trips back and forth for dress fittings to make sure it was perfect… We went with a strapless, sweetheart neckline dress in ivory chiffon” says Tara. Her beautiful bodice was woven in a criss-cross style and was finished with a pale pink ribbon belt with handmade fabric flowers.

What a superb wedding and wonderful inspiration to leave you with before the weekend hits.

A & E’s wedding was infused with personality and their love story. A big part of that story is Twitter and the blogosphere.  I had the opportunity to coordinate their wedding on the day of. The ceremony was held at Church of the Epiphany in Plymouth with a reception at the ultra-cool bowling alley/reception hall of Elsie’s in Northeast Minneapolis.

Bridesmaids wore their choice of black dresses. The bride wore a stunning birdcage veil with a turquoise flower accent in her side-swept hair and the groom wore a snazzy bow-tie and equally snazzy beard (he’s the founder of the Minnesota Beard-Off).

A Twitter thread was woven throughout their festivities – guests participated on their Tweet Wall via TweetWally during the reception. Haven’t heard of a Tweet Wall? Here’s what they did: chose a specific tag for their wedding (i.e. #OurWedding12.24.12) which guests include in their tweets about the wedding and are then grouped together and projected onto a wall, making a Tweet Wall.

The couple, Kate and Scott married on a summer’s day, December 2011 at the beautiful Carrick Hill – one of Austrlalia’s last remaining in-tact period estates.
The happy bride and groom decided to couple this grand and historic abode with another type of historic icon… the Kombi. The result? A classic, yet uber cool wedding all at the same time.

30 October 2011 is a Big Day for Richard and Eriana (Nana) to walking into a new chapter of their Life. And that day was fabulous from the Holy Matrimony until  the reception. Family and close friends come to church to witness their pledge to live together in joy and sorrow. As well as the reception, full of happiness, romantic, warm greetings from the Bride and Groom making this party so wonderful.

The Beginning..

Richard is an entrepreneur. He is the owner of ‘Richard Mobilindo Showroom’  in Tangerang. During his preparation to marriage, Richard need an extra time to run his business as well as his marriage. But, Richard put his trust in Nana to handle the details of their wedding. The problem is, Nana is a busy woman too. She works in Advertising Company in Jakarta. Due to this situation, only on weekend they can go to a wedding fair and meet some vendors. And finally, about three months before D-day, Nana and Richard contacted me to help them to prepare their wedding details.

Actually Richard, Nana and I are best friends. I am glad to be trusted by handle their wedding. We’ve known each other characters. Richard is a clumsy man but don’t doubt his caring to other. Meanwhile, Nana is a smart yet perfectionist girl. They are aware of this differences and shortcomings of their partners, and they feel complete together. That’s why they committed to get married. What else do you waiting for when you found your soul mate already?

For this special moment, I want to make a memorable night for them. Romantic Nite in Magenta that was the theme on their wedding. The Bride and Groom also chose the Sheraton Bandara Hotel with outdoor feelings as the venue of their wedding celebration. The open air location brings an intimacy among family, friends and the invitation, so they were felt very warm. Richard and Nana also walking around greeting the guests with a more relaxed and warm. Magenta color theme that adorned the altar and the area of ​​the venue makes it seems romantic night. And all that happened on that day is very impressive and memorable.

As the Bride told us at the end of the day : Today was fabulous!

Mismatched silver, milk glass and vintage pieces were used for vessels for tabletops, the sign-in table, and other focal areas for design.

‘Stella,’ a natural wooden desk was used for a guest sign in table where guests shared the ‘keys to a successful’ marriage with the newlyweds.  A desk or buffet can make for a great table for these focal areas.  We love pulling out the drawers for additional storage and to add some interest.

Vintage goblets were used for floral containers as well as water goblets for the guests.  Mixing up natural elements of succulents, iron pieces, silver and glass make for a casual but put together look.  The gorgeous florals were all designed by Krista Jon, aren’t these amazing?!

A cute way to have guests leave a little note in addition to a traditional guest book.  How fun would this be to display in your living room after the wedding day?!  Art with memories, love!!

Our ‘Sonoma’ tables make for great guest tables, but also for a beverage station!  Here we have displayed various cake stands & cut glass coffee mugs for this evening beverage station.

A rustic arch canopy was created for the ceremony, and later was turned into the Sweetheart table where the newlyweds enjoyed dinner.  A great way to be able to re-purpose your ceremony florals and site!  Our rustic table is the perfect size for a sweetheart table.  Pair a few padded farm chairs, and you’ve got a great spot for a first dinner as Mr. & Mrs.!

Hanging chandeliers always make for a great addition.  Chalkboards with table names and guest seating is an easy and stylish way of guiding gusts to their seats for the evening.

A hot trend we will continue to see this year is the use of wooden slabs for bases of centerpieces.  We have great, thick wooden blocks that help feature your floral centerpieces.   Don’t you love this look?

This wedding took place at the Iguana Lodge in Puerto Jimenez, which is on the Osa Peninsular on the Southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Puerto Jimenez is close to the Corcovado National Park, which is one of Costa Rica’s most untouched areas and therefore has an abundance of wildlife. The day after the wedding I stayed in the area to do a bit of nature photography, I’ll post the photos in my next blog.

Here are photos from a wedding I did last summer in Taos, which was held at El Monte Segrado, a beautiful resort setting nestled in the Taos valley.  We were excited to have a fine artist, Elizabeth Jose on site to capture the vows on canvas.  She began blocking in the surroundings as guests arrived, sketched out the couple during the ceremony and finished the details during the cocktail hour, as guests sipped drinks and watched her apply delicate brushstrokes.

What a wonderful way to remember such a special day!  More photos of this beautiful wedding to come soon!

Krista Jon Couture Designs created the most gorgeous florals for this wedding!  We love the muted oranges, ivories and succulent accents!

Throughout the venue vintage seating was placed for guests to enjoy the surroundings and visit with friends and family.  Hanging chandeliers from the trees added a special touch!  Don’t forget to decorate your tables, and above them!

Worn brass candlesticks and cut crystal vessels were the perfect containers and mix for the tabletops.

A focal rustic table was used for the cake display.  Tall candlesticks with succulent accents added a bit of height to this table… don’t you love?!

A close-up of more of our eclectic containers.  The uniqueness of mixing and matching pieces adds for interest and plenty of details for your photos!

An indoor lounge area in a neutral color palette was the perfect spot for a quiet retreat for the guests.

How do we love the details!  From brass candlesticks to boutonnieres transported in vintage boxes and beautiful floral accents!
