UNEXPECTED
What really is unexpected?
How is it different from a dream ?
Ah ! Let me stand corrected…
are they not one…or so they seem !
You may laugh and find it funny…
Fishes flying in the air..
But dont you see funnier dreams
or is there a point.. …a difference there ???

Your mind rejects unblazened trails
and you walk around familiar streets
…but same mind…it spins fairy tales
in your dreams….oh ! what feats !!!

do you see a pattern here ?
or still wish to believe…
that logic knows everything…
and dreams simply deceive !!!

…this mind of yours…no friend in deed
till the day you cease to ‘expect’
all ‘un-knowns’ have a seed for sure
somewhere else…not in intellect !!!
What you know as mind… is just a part
your mind has an unending domain
shun logic ! burst in a song…
and take no umbrella…this time in rain !

PEGO IN VERSE

Beautiful poem sung by Habib Jalib, which is very relavent today in Pakistan’s political crisis.

“Main Nay Kaha” is a satirical poem by the famous leftist poet Habib Jalib called “Musheer” (Advisor). Jalib wrote it in response to a conversation he had with Hafiz Jalandari during the time of Ayub Khan’s dictatorship. It remains just as fresh and valid today.

I said this to him
These hundred million
Are the epitome of ignorance
Their conscience has gone to sleep
Every ray of hope
Is lost in the darkness
This news is true
They are the living dead
Completely mindless
A disease of life
And you hold in your hands
The cure for their ills

You are the light of God
Wisdom and knowledge personified
The nation is with you
It is only through your grace
That the nation can be saved
You are the light of a new morning
After you there is only night
The few who speak out
Are all mischief makers
You should tear out their tongues
You should throttle their throats

Those proud of their eloquence
Their tongues are completely silent
There is calm in the land
There is an unexampled difference
Between yesterday and today
Only at their own expense
Are people in prison, under your rule

China is our friend
We’d give our lives for her
But the system that they have
Steer well clear of that

Is School A Monster ?

This is a question that we all must answer…

Ask any average school going child

    Is school harsh on the ’system’…or is it mild !

   ( you’ll get your answer !)

When school is meant to teach and to educate

   then why is it  seen as a monster… let us investigate ?

A Square Peg in a Round Hole ?

Rebel is a square peg in a round…

or a round peg in a square..

(but most significantly….)

   a rebel is   un-wanted , this we found

     and a rebel belongs to nowhere !

but yet …………a rebel idea can be sound !

                but do we care …do we care !!!

Hey you……what do you think….pray tell !

   what is the reason……why do you rebel ?

when all the kings horses….and all the kings men….

      are happy….and snug ….. why pick up your pen !

….and write something like this……arent you afraid ?

         and what about all your taxes on short-comings….have you paid ?

The rebel simply smiled….what else he could have done ?

              …as among  all the kings horses….there was not a single man…

                                ……….NONE !!!

 ( A question was  once raised somewhere in this grand world of Academia )

Who should decide the syllabus ?

    and academics sang in a thunderous chorus

” WE…WE…..We……Oh  ! What a simple question !

              …as we are the ones who KNOW….no question !!!

….then a small …puny  little boy finds some gumption

    this he asks from the pundits …and masters of assumption :

” Why do you think that you know  what’s best ?

      why do you think that ….you guys are the best ?”

…academics hate this interruption…they are not used to this !

         as they make all their decisions …based on some nineteenth century hypothesis !!!

School : ” take out your book of poetry …and open page forty nine !”

Back Bencher : ” I have got it ! do you want me  to read the first line ?”

School (not too pleased) : ” How come you are so quick today…are you all right ?”

BB : ” Oh….I am fine…its just that I got a rap on my knuckles last week… was real tight !”

School: ” Ok …Ok…what do you have to say about the poetic meter in this poetry ?”

BB : ” Er….meter ? ….I thought we were going to read a poem….or is it some gadget….. oh my ! ….oh my!”

School ( getting very angry ): ” Its enough…this tomfoolry….you’ve got to be serious…..”

  ” we are trying so hard….learn !! come on !!! ….have some mercy on us !!!”

BB (at sea ) : “Ah ! What did I do…..I thought poets wrote from the heart !”

              ” I am quite confused at this measuring of meters in ART ?”

School (disgusted) : ” What do you know about poets…you dim wit  !”

                    ” What they wrote was sublime….now  we have to make it simple…dont you get it ?”"

Back Bencher (facing the on lookers) : “What a mess….these schools….I cant figure it out !”

   ” In the name of education….they want to make us meter-readers…no doubt !!!”

Here is an excerpt from my poetry….”Management of this Globe……”

….It starts like this….

“How much for buns and how much for gutter………“

……How much of crime…how many cops …

         and how many rapes in a year ?

                           how many jails…how many in each !

                            how many raids…how many ‘all clear’ !

How much of blue…how much of green

     and how much of ozone tearing ?

                            how many boats….how many fishes..

       how many courts….how much of hearing !!!

How many mouths…..how much to eat ?

                 …how much to see beneath the sea !

how many trains…how many jets…

                   how many discords…how much to agree !?!

Who will bell the cat ? who will bell the cat ?

    we go on asking this question…..  and I always (sometimes?) smell a rat !

Who will bell the cat ? must be a question  first asked by a bureaucrat ?

             ….why do they ask this question…..dont do anything after that ?

 Who will bell the cat ? who will bell the cat ?

    ….the questioning goes on and on…. for generations…in fact !!!

   Let us now ask the question ….have we ever belled the cat ?

            …we sure must have…long ago..as the cat is now quite FAT……

  …so let us ask this question…to ourselves…..mark that !

                  can we RE BELL the cat……       

                     LET US RE BELL THE CAT !!!

                             “WHISPER SHOWS…….”

  Whisper shows that there is sin in this world….

this is an old saying…..but  please ….take my word …..

whisper is an indication that we dont want to be heard !

and between sin …  and a secret….the diff. is now blurred !

So next time you want to whisper….dont be a part of the herd….

 dont  hush up your tone……as you know….in this world…..

       ….as it is….no one wants anyone else  to be heard !!!

……One of the strangest things on earth…

                       is a place they call as SCHOOL

                               while the place is meant for learning

                                        you learn out of….  as a RULE !!!

“CATCH IN THE SYSTEM”

way things are

at present

arranged

managed

distributed

allocated…

way things are

given

taken

snatched

manipulated

way things are

valued

priced

rationed

taxed

It may well be proper

and equitable….

if all these are

air dropped

at randomly chosen hours

some by parachutes

and some

simply dropped

for millions…

to catch !

not according to

need

or deed

but simply

according to

speed…

to catch !!!

 POETRY OF THE WEEK  :

“HAPPILY EVER AFTER”

I was taken aback by this question

     It was pertinent there is no question !

I racked my brain for an answer

       I looked and looked inside, but no answer !!

It was a child who had questioned

      Who is wise, certainly, unquestioned !

Then somehow this is how I answered

       And felt that all my doubts had been answered !!

But let me  first talk about the question

           And then I shall tell you the answer

“ What is ever-after” the small child asked

             and “Living Happily “ , please answer !

(I thought what a simple thing is this

       It is at the end of every story

Isn’t it a child’s play, to know

          Of bygone kings and their glory…

How could a child miss this simple thing

          Must be slow, of low intellect, Ah! Poor thing !)

(But it was then that I was taken aback

          When I fully understood the query

What if the story tellers lost the knack

        Of ending the tales on a note so merry !)

(What if the story went further down

         Along the road, into the ever after ?

Shall the kings queen and clown

    Still live happily  with their laughter ?)

(This is when  without any question

         Someone inside must’ve answered

    “ Ever after is not after but ever !”

            And I felt all my questions answered !)

Then this is how I replied

          To the child who had seen me tongue tied :

“ Ever after is the Here and Now”

       and by telling this I felt good somehow

“It is not an end in any tale

             it is a writer’s way though very stale…

to bring the kings , queens and jack

     to a place, where they don’t look ahead, or back” !!!
