Author: Matthew Petch Source: ezinearticles.com If your iPhone or iPod touch is getting a little gru

Author: Matthew Petch
Source: ezinearticles.com

If your iPhone or iPod touch is getting a little grumpy, crashing and freezing there are things you can do solve the problem and help ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Reboot
Your iPhone/Touch is really just a pocket computer and like all computers if left running for days or weeks on end it can start to develop a few issues that cause it to occasionally crash. When your devices screen turns off or when you press its power button at the top’ it is not actually completely powering down but rather going into a sleep mode in a similar way to your desktop computer. Like a computer it will occasionally need a complete restart. To do this hold down the power button at the top until a red slider appears and drag the slider to completely turn off your device. Don’t worry all of your data will be retained. Turn it back on by holding the power button again for a second or two. Be aware that its quite normal for your device to take a minute or so to start up from cold.

Force Quit
So what do you do if you’re in the middle of using your favorite app and suddenly it just stops responding? It wont scroll, the buttons wont work and even the, “iPod touch“, main home button of your device wont take you back to the home screen. Its not like a computer where you can just switch to the desktop and force it to quit! Well actually it is in a way. If an app just stops responding hold down the home button for six or seven seconds. This is the iphone equivalent of the Force Quit on a mac or End Task on Windows.

Forced Restart
If your entire device has completely locked up and you can’t even shut it down using the above method there is a way of forcing it to restart. Hold down the power button as above but this time hold the home button at the same time until you see an Apple logo appear. This will actually force the machine to completely restart which will again take a minute or so.

Replace a troublesome application
If you have completely restarted your device but there is still one particular application that insists on crashing, you could try replacing it with a fresh copy. First of all delete the troublesome app by holding your finger down on it until it starts to jiggle. Tap the x that appears in the top left corner of the icon. It should be noted that if you delete an app which was purchased on your device (rather than on your computer) before ever syncing, the app will be lost for good and you will need to download a new version from the app store. The app has now been deleted and can be replaced with the copy in iTunes on your computer. Plug your device into your computer and wait for iTunes to open. In iTunes click your device icon in the column on the left and then click the Applications tab in the main window. Make sure the app you deleted from your device is selected to sync then hit the Sync button in the bottom right. A new copy of the app will be loaded onto your device.

Replacing your settings
No amount of restarting will help if it’s the actual data on your device that is corrupt. Luckily Apple has provided a way to replace key data. Open the settings application and select General.Scroll down to the bottom and select Reset. The first two items in the resulting list are Reset All Settings and Erase All Content and Settings. Ignore the following four items. Settings are all the ways in which you have customized the device for your own use and content is the media and data you have loaded on to it. Resetting settings will restore your device to its initial condition but keep all of the media you have added to it. Erase all content and Settings will completely restore your device to its original condition when, “iPod touch“, first purchased. If you now re sync your device with your computer it will be populated with a nice fresh copy of your content.

I do hope this information has helped you restore your iPhone/Touch back to the smooth running device it was when you first starting using it and prevents further frustrations in the future.

Sometimes a pair of dirty shoes could really take a toll on your confidence level and that’s when you know what what’s on the outside matters too. Well it does pay to be well turned out. And if you think you have no time to wash those dirty shoes – let the professionals do their job. Pick up the phone and call a shoe laundry. Reboot is one of them and when I tried their service – I think I was quite satisfied – will I send my shoes and bags their again? – Yes I would – who has the time to clean them anyway! You’d better try them if you have those pair of stinky n smelly n dirty shoes piled up in your shoe rack. Its better to be clean that clumsy right?

Last week Reboot got back from their second tour, traveling to Hurum/Tofte, Greåker, Sarpsborg in Norway and Fiskebäck, Sweden. One night in Hurum 80 confirmants were gathered, and 12 of them chose to give their lives to Jesus! In Greåker a girl on crutches got a lot better from a sprained ankle after receiving prayer. A little girl with a broken foot experienced Jesus taking the pain away from her foot in Sarpsborg. God is sooo good!

Windows machines all have something in common: at a given time, they’ll all need to be reboote

Windows machines all have something in common: at a given time, they’ll all need to be rebooted. It’s not that big of a deal when dealing with desktops, but for servers this is a bit more complicated. People depend on the services / applications hosted by that server. So, if a server needs a reboot, you’ll probably need to schedule it for a time when it’s “safe” to do so.

Doing so is pretty simple. All you need, is access to the server and a moment on which the reboot can be done without co-workers cursing at you for shutting down their precious CRM server. Here’s how you get the job done:

On the server, open Notepad and type the following:
shutdown /r /t 30 /d P:0:0

This command will tell your server to reboot, thirty seconds after the command is executed. The /d P:0:0 part ensures that the reboot will be registered as a planned reboot. If desired, you can add a your comments as well; by adding the /c trigger to the command. Your command would then look like this:

shutdown /r /t 40 /d P:0:0 /c This reboot is neccesary because it is.

Save as a .bat file, on a location that you’ll remember.

Go to Start > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks

Select “Add Scheduled Task”. Using the wizard, choose the application you want to execute (the .bat file you just created) and the time it should be executed. Don’t forget to provide an account with sufficient rights to execute the command / reboot the server.

Close the wizard.

The planned reboot will now take place when you planned it.

O boot é realmente rápido, e logo aparece a primeira tela: login.

Sherryl Vint sent out the following CFP for the journal Science Fiction Film and Television. I have a BSG essay that I’m definitely going to send to SFFTV. You should send them something, too!

Science Fiction Film and Television is a biannual, peer-reviewed journal published by Liverpool University Press. Edited by Mark Bould (UWE) and Sherryl Vint (Brock University), with an international board of advisory editors, it encourages dialogue among the scholarly and intellectual communities of film studies, sf studies and television studies.

We invite submissions on all areas of sf film and television. We publish articles, book and DVD reviews and review essays, as well as archive entries on theorists (which introduce the work of key and emergent figures in sf studies, television or film studies) and texts (which describe and analyse little-known or unduly neglected films or television series).

We invite submissions in particular for two special issues:

REMAKES, REVISIONS, REBOOTS: Why is the 21st century fascinated by returning to previous sf franchises? Is this nostalgia? Archive fever? Retrofuturism? What economic and cultural forces inform this recent fascination with return and renewal?

BIOPOLITICS: How do biopolitial theories of theorists such as Foucault, Hardt and Negri, Esposito and Agamben inform readings of sf? What can sf contribute to ongoing discussions of biopolitial governance? What can sf visions of posthumanism tell us about life under biopolitical capitalism?

Submissions should be made via our website at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/lup-sfftv. If you have an idea for a contribution to the archives section, please contact the editors to discuss your proposal.

Advisory Editorial Board: Jonathan Bignell (University of Reading), Catherine Constable (University of Warwick), Susan A.

Believe it or not, I have been a Trekkie for most of my life. It’s hard to believe I know but I could recite to you even the most trivial of information concerning Trek from who played Mugato to where the head is located on the Enterprise-D. So you can believe that I was overjoyed that J.J. Abrams new reboot of the 1966 television show met all of my highest nerdy standards. At long last, a Star Trek movie that “boldly goes” where no trek flick has gone before.

This film covers the backstory for Captain James Kirk (Chris Pine) and all the other crew members that have become such beloved icons in the world of science fiction. When a Romulan with a vendetta travels to the past through a black hole the youthful crew of the Enterpise must face their first dangerous mission head on. In this unexpected life or death situation the crew must learn to deal with each other and their personal conflicts or be destroyed by this powerful enemy bent on revenge.

While most of the actors in this movie are younger than what we are used to seeing that does not mean that their performance is at all lacking in quality. While still very new to acting in big screen blockbusters Chris Pine offered the same kind of audacity and testosterone soaked bravado that has made Captain Jim Kirk famous. Costarring with the likes of Zachary Quinto as a spot-on Spock, Karl Urban playing the down home doctor Bones McCoy, and Eric Bana playing a very creepy and Khanesque villain this movie is certainly not left wanting for good acting.

This film offers plenty for the die hard fanatics but it is still very entertaining for those who think that a Klingon is a tiny ball of lint stuck to a dress. Abrams new take on Gene Roddenberry’s brand of science fiction was respectful of the same adventurous spirit while still offering the same campy tongue in cheek sense of humor. It is littered with references to the original series and even some of the others such as ensigns in red shirts to the sultry emerald skinned girl from Orion. Abrams new reinvisioning of Star Trek is a real shot of adrenaline to the arm of a movie franchise that was close to dead. This movie sports brilliant special effects and turns the action up to warp speed. It also manages to keep the same kind of multifaceted characters that people have grown to love for more than thirty years. So if you’re quarantined to your house with a debilitating case of the swine flu or stuck in sick bay with the Andorian shingles “Star Trek” is the best new release DVD on shelves right now.

this year has been just crap so far entertainment wise. it started off pretty well.. t.v. show wise,

this year has been just crap so far entertainment wise. it started off pretty well.. t.v. show wise, I had my favorite show since The Lone Gunmen being Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which I was devoted to. video game wise, I had MxO (The Matrix Online) which was, by far, the BEST MMO I’ve ever played and was just simply sweet like bear meat. (whatever that taste like. sweet meat sounds rather nasty, so strike that from the record) then they had to end the game in the summer, and it was just sad. we had a big ending party and what-not and made a few new friends which I appreciate hard core. (shout out to Hidden System) and then I find out they cancelled Terminator. I mean come on.. then they release this abomination of a movie Terminator Salvation which was just horrible. yeah, part of it for me was Christian Bale since he did ruin Batman for me like Tim Burton did with Batman Forever and on, but the story was just dumb. this show goes down with other shows I loved like The Lone Gunmen (canceled), Sliders (canceled, but Jerry O’Connell left anyways), ReBoot (is getting it’s own big movie in 2010), Dollhouse (Eliza Dushku is just.. man, I just want to keep her in my basement), and a few other sci fi shows I cannot remember at the moment.

but what bothers me more than anything about this is how all these other shows remain on the air. I mean really.. Dog The Bounty Hunter? I do tune in every once in a bit to see how the 4 foot mullet man who is unable to button up his shirt is doing, but it’s such a dull show. (“let’s go get ‘em, bra! freeze bra! you’re going down bra! –then- God loves you, bra! here’s a sandwich I made for you, bra!”) and we have Dr. Phil who is supposed to be more of a moral doctor than a real doctor (cause he isn’t a real doctor) but he cheated on his freak of nature wife! ..plus his moustache bothers me. and I’m not even gonna touch Nancy Grace, but I don’t think any man would. this has all pissed me off as much as when Buffalo Wild Wings took away the Thai sauce. maaaaaaaaan. on 2o cent wing days, I used to get 50 and tear those mothers up, yo! but no. here’s something that satisfies Justin so let’s take it away. like the old white Papa John’s delivery boxes. I’m still not over that. they were classy, now they got these brown ugly things. which also brings me to Taco Bell.. what’s up with the brown bathroom style napkins? they aren’t soft! and if there is any restaurant that is in need of providing their patrons with suitable napkins, its Taco Bell. some items on the menu can be messy and wiping of and around the mouth may be required a bit more than eating a burger from McDonalds. which brings me to why aren’t ALL the happy meals in the cool little folding boxes? that’s all there was when I was a wee boy. you would open up that box from the cleverly folded in tabs at the top to reveal a warm meal with a decent quality toy. now we get a sack. a freaking bag! kids open up a stupid bag to find a toy that’s already broken or just completely useless. stupid Ronald McDonald skimping on the happiness of children. thanks for the sack with a hamburger and a stupid toy from a show I am unaware of or a movie that isn’t even out or has a trailer. their fries are good, though. unlike Burger King that changed their fries all those years ago, and thought it was a good idea. you too BK are ignorant. see? now I’m all upset and need a sandwich or some cake. or both. so I’m gonna go eat my feelings lie a 14 year old fat girl wearing a Jonas Brothers t-shirt with a sweet Twilight bracelet or whatever little butterchubbs wear these days. sorry if I came off rude, I mean no harm, I am very sarcastic at heart (and face) it’s just how I roll. happy Friday the 13th everyone!

The run levels in Solaris are little different than what you know about run levels in Linux. So, if you come from Linux background this could be little confusing initially.

There are total 8 run levels in Solaris. Default run level is 3. At a given point of time, a system can be in only one run level.

0 Power Down State
To shut down the operating system so that it is safe to turn off power to the system. This will bring the machine to Open Boot Prompt (OK)

s or S Single User State
To run as a single user with some file systems mounted and accessible.

1 Administrative State
To access all available file systems. User logins are disabled.

2 Multiuser State
For normal operations. Multiple users can access the system and all file system. All daemons are running except for the NFS server daemons.

3 Multiuser level with NFS resources shared
For normal operations with NFS resources shared. This is the default run level for the Solaris environment.

4 Alternative multiuser state
Currently unavailable.

5 Power-down state
To shut down the operating system so that it is safe to turn off power to the system. If possible, automatically turns off power on systems that support this feature.

6 Reboot state
To shut down the system to run level 0, and then reboot to multiuser level with NFS resources shared (or whatever level is the default in the inittab file).
