My sister got married last Saturday!  It was a lovely ceremony that took place at a quaint little Wedding Hall near her home.  The bridal couple looked so happy.  It was a lovely time.  I was the matron of honor and my sister and sister in law were bridesmaids.  She even had my husband and two brothers as groomsmen.  It went very smooth and we all had a great time!

The newly married couple held a small reception at their home with friends, family members and neighbors.  My new brother in law is a wonderful person.  I couldn’t asked for a better new brother.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Sampson!~

Our wedding centerpieces were the first wedding-related purchases Mr. Library and I made together.  Doing what I tend to do the most these days, I was browsing through different centerpiece ideas that fit into our tiny budget and worked with our vision.  We both agreed that it would be nice to have fantastic ambiance within the room, even if we did end up with a large ballroom, to help people feel together and connected.  After having been to a few too many weddings where you couldn’t see the person across the table from you, I also wanted short centerpieces where people could carry on a conversation without craning their necks.

Our color palette works amazingly well with these, so I was excited to have something that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg with flowers from the florist.  When we opened the boxes, however, they were a bit smaller than I would have thought.  The measurements were to the top of the circle, not to the top of the actual lantern.

I am hoping that some of you out there may have some design ideas for what we can add to make these a bit more interesting.  Mr. Library and I thought about adding a few tea candles around the base and having a circle of ferns underneath (almost like a charger plate for the lantern).  Any ideas?

TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off is one of my favorite shows.  There’s just something so entertaining about watching people craft edible masterpieces. Plus, cake happens to just be one of my general interests. The other day, as I watched the bakers manifest their creations from mere sketches, I got to thinking: Wouldn’t it be great if brides everywhere could design their own wedding cake and bring their renderings to a local bakery for production?  It would eliminate a lot of that “lost in translation” nonsense that goes on when trying to properly convey one’s artistic vision through color adjectives and sweeping hand gestures.

Turns out, I wasn’t the first one to think this. Brides.com allows you to digitally create a wedding cake, as does the software program by WeddingCakeDesignPro.com.  These digital programs are perfect for those of us whose freehand drawing abilities stopped progressing at age of seven.

Having a reception at a place other than where the wedding is taking place?

Remember to put a map in the invitations. It’s also a good idea to put a map to the reception in the ceremony program (that is, if everyone is invited to the reception).

Ask the post office for a selection of romantic stamps from which to choose. Ask to see the newest “Love” stamps.

Spritz your invitations with your favorite fragrance.

Be sure to mail invitations six to eight weeks before the big day; be sure to include a deadline (of two to three weeks before the wedding) on your reply cards! If you haven’t received all of your RSVPs by 15 days before the wedding, designate a family member of friend to telephone those who have not responded.

Don’t send your invitations out on a rainy day, especially if you plan to use a public mailbox. All that dampness may damage the paper and cause the ink to blur.

I remember the day of my sister’s marriage. That was the first wedding in our little family, me and my brother were in the trance of giving the best we could to her at the time of this departure, and here our misery started! Today also, when I remember it, I feel shy and awkward. The only motive to share that silly situation is to make my readers aware about overexcitements which caused a historic fuss in our family.

what happened Exactly is, our parents had an idea of a professional singer to entertain the guests at the time of wedding. And my sister’s bad luck followed for we learnt that and decided to become singers at the time of reception to make her happy.

We prepared some jingles and for chorus, asked our friends to accompany us as a chorus. There were 3 of us. We went through many practices, short listed few jingles witch were best according to our choice, Even planned our dresses very carefully.

On the great eve of our dream, what went wrong was, we were really unaware that how many guests were invited? At the time of rehearsal they were familiar and near about 200 in numbers. So, we were very comfortable in front of them. But actually the crowd was of hundreds more than expectation and all strangers. Our voices turned coarse, feet trembling, bodies shivering and we just completed the lines literary. Our parent’s faces turned red, sis was most uncomfortable, her hubby literally fixed his fingers into ears and it was really great amusement for our guests.

If you are planning for your sis’s or bro’s wedding reception please avoid singing at the occasions. If you really mean to:

1)    Use very short and fast jingles.
2)    Have expert comments one week in advance.
3)    Arrange good sound system and practice on it to get familiar with.
4)    Be realistic. Don’t choose too many songs. Two or three songs are sufficient.
5)    Know the perfect time to sing them and convey it through the agenda to all so they will prepare themselves for upcoming disaster.
6)    Know the actual number of guests who are going to attend the reception.
7)    Take care of your voice; avoid screaming, sour items, cold drinks, ice-cream from during practice period and ceremony.
8)    No needs to instruct about overeating on the day because believe me you cannot!
9)    Ask the permission of your guests before you start, it settles the audience.
10)     Remember, the occasion is your sibling’s wedding and not singing concert.

Plan to give the best she/he deserves and get the same. After you finish successfully please share your experience with me.

I just discovered wedding photos from a couple I worked with this past summer, Lynn & Ed, over on the Duke Photography Blog. AND wow… what a beautiful event that not only showcased a group of very talented vendors, but a very stylish couple too!  Uyen at Sassy Girl Weddings created an amazing outdoor setting to complement the gorgeous Rancho Las Lomas venue in Silverado {southern California}.

I love that we hung the customized escort tags, which seated each guest to their table, on the mini fiji water bottles. {we used the same elastic thread that was used around their diagonal booklet invitation, shown below}.

I’m also super excited that their chic Wedding Cake matches their custom invitation, which we personalized just for the couple using orange, brown + a unique swirl design!

I haven’t had a chance to have a chat about Charlotte and Joel’s wedding with Corey but judging by the photos it looks like everyone had a great time.

Charlotte, you look amazing, I love the dress you chose and the location for your wedding and photos. Hope you had a great honeymoon, looking forward to designing a fantastic album.

Saibal, Prabal’s brother, has been inviting people to the “engagement” reception.  For those who are close to the family they get an invitation personally.  The office staff, of course, is invited.  They really are characters…and have turned into a nice little family.  The only one missing is Mithu.  She gets back to work quickly after she eats.

I forgot Pijush was hiding in the background.  He is the newest member of Athena eSolutions.  He takes care of all the errands of the office and home.  He can also EAT a HUMONGOUS amount of rice!  OMG! I don’t know where he puts it.  It’s like 3 times the amount any of the other guys eat!  Even THEY are amazed.   I’m going to have to get a photo of that soon!

I’ve been thinking about it for a while and have decided that I have NO IDEA what I’m going to do with non-family out-of-town guests.  I know it’s a year away, but I think I should be thinking about this.  Zach and I both have some friends who live in Morgantown, Fairmont, Washington D.C., Wheeling, etc…and there are no hotels in Sistersville.  The Wells Inn has been closed for the season for…over a year.  There’s a tiny motel in Paden City, but I don’t know if that will hold everyone.  And it’s a ten minute drive, so I’m worried someone will drive drunk and have a wreck or something.

I’m not worried about family.  Zach has relatives in town who can house his out-of-town family members, and I have relatives in town who are intending to house my out-of-town family members.  I just don’t know what to do with our friends.  =(

Hello there, how are you?

Today I was browsing the Internet, acquiring some knowledge if you prefer to call it like that, and I came across a posting that had the right path of creativity, therefore, I decided to re-invent it, edit it, and change it for your delightful entertainment.  Hopefully all of us girls can identify.. By all means, if you want to add another point, be my guest, this list can only keep getting better, that way we will find PRINCE CHARMING…

My Boyfriend Application and Test

First, a little about me. I’m a 26-year-old, very  good looking and intelligent Latina, with a full time Job and  attending University. I’m tired of wasting my time, so I have formulated some mandatory criteria in part A, and part B is based on points.

Part A

1) You must be born male. I’ll need to see a birth certificate proving so.

2) You must own something to wear to a formal reception. And at least a couple formal shoes.
3) You must not own or ever wear Birkenstocks, crocs footwear or wrangler jeans. Or wear your jeans so low, that  I can see the end of your briefs.
4) All your parts need to be in good working order, further testing will need to be conducted of course.
5) I can’t accept a regular drug user. Despite CA culture, I am including weed.
6) You must own at least four collared dress shirts. You need to look presentable standing next to me.
7) Your height must be proportional to your weight using the standard AMA guidelines. (fyi, I do prefer them taller than me, so you have to be at least 6 feet) .
You must have a couple photos which were  taken in the last 2 months.
9) English must be your first language. However you need to have a pretty good understanding of Spanish and Latin culture, or at least a desire to learn.

If you meet all of the requirements above then you may continue, if not, then you are now dismissed but thank you for applying to be my boyfriend.

Now: give yourself two points for each of the following criteria you meet

Part B

1) You have (or are working on) a degree.
2) You own a car and have a valid driver’s license. Suspended for DUIs: minus 10 points.

3) If your car is better and newer than mine add 5 points
4) You’ve never worn Ed Hardy, Affliction or any other Christian Audigier affiliated brand.

5) If 80% of your shoes can be described as sneakers take minus 5 points.
6) You follow at least one professional sport.
7) You have skills in bed. Not because you think you do, because your past experiences have told you.
You are not a born again Christian, Jehovah’s Witness or any other kind of religious fanatic.
9) You have been to at least three countries outside of the US.
10) You don’t need to call a handy man if something breaks around the house.
11) You know how to cook a meal for two. (Eggs, instant noodles, sandwiches, lean cuisine do not count as a meal)

12) You actually do shores around the house, like doing dishes after I cooked, help cleaning the kitchen, bringing flowers, wine etc..
13) You like stepping out of your bubble and trying new things like different cuisine, bungee jumping, salsa dancing.
14) You can make it through a romantic comedy without complaining (don’t worry we don’t have to tell your friends).
15) You have a great sense of humor. Are people laughing with you, or at you?
16) You can plan a good date without any help or advice from me. “I don’t know, what do you want to do” isn’t an answer.
17) You work out and enjoy being physically active. I hit the gym regularly, you should too.
18) You have a job that requires more than a high school diploma.
19) You read books, or at least you read the newspaper, so we can talk about worldwide subjects.  

20) You are an educated individual. You challenge my intellectual abilities.
21) You have a 5 year goal.
22) You aren’t afraid of being yourself, even if you have a dorky, nerdy side. (that’s kinda hot).
23) You’re competitive, and I don’t mean you like to battle it out on Wii with your buddies on the weekends.
24) You know how to dance.

25) You are spontaneous and creative.

26) You are secure about yourself and us. Meaning I’m not looking for a jealous, immature, insecure chauvinistic pig. People are going to check us out. Just enjoy the ride, at the end of the night I’m going home with you.

27) Last but not least, you can acknowledge when you screw up, and say sorry;  flowers and a romantic dinner might help you get some points back.

If you have a score of 40+ then please contact me immediately. If you scored between 20-35 pts, you can contact me, but I don’t have a lot of hope for our future relationship. If you did not score high enough, then please do not contact me, but if at some time in the future you are able to improve yourself and meet the minimum requirements, then you may re-apply.

I attended one reception that had many wonderful features, some expensive and some that are very easy to set up on a budget. It all started with a very plain building on the outside, but you would have never known it once you stepped inside. The entryway was kind of dark with tables lining the sides, holding the wedding gifts. you walk down two steps to enter a large room with round tables surrounding a decent sized dance floor in the center. There were twinkling white lights draped around the room. The atmosphere was very romantic. At the center of each table sat four deep red colored glasses upside down on white table cloths with more twinkling lights inside them, they were gorgeous. It was a catered event, food being served on elegant white china with a ribbon of silver lining the rim of each dish. As the meal wound down, the music began. At this time the bride and groom took their place on the dance floor and had their first dance. The dance floor opened to any who wanted to join.  After some time, the sea of people parted as a red satin covered rolling table was brought out to the center floor. On top of the table stood an elegant 3 tiered cake, white and pearl in color with a few crimson red roses placed strategically around the cake. Flowing beautifully from 2 sides of the 2nd tier of the cake was crimson red fluid (fruit punch), leading down into two crystal punch bowls. The bride and groom used a silver knife with a diamond and ruby encrusted double-heart pendant dangling from the handle to cut the cake. Each attendee was instructed to see the bride and groom before departing, at which time they were thanked for attending and sharing in the joyous occasion. The bride and groom handed each person a simple glass butterfly key chain with the date engraved on it. It was a most memorable evening. Elegant and simple at the same time.

Aha! This is the dream of mine about my wedding ceremony. And why me? Every girl on this planet dreams about her best man, her own celebration and the dear partner.

Generally, we don’t have wedding ceremonies in the evening as it is considered a service to your lord too, and the best time to pray or commit is morning (otherwise there is no time to pray or confess) but then also, the ideal time of a wedding is morning in a religious view. Receptions are arranged in the evening but they prove very clumsy and tiring on your “dream- come- true” moment.

Just imagine, you are waiting with your very intimate relatives, pals at the church for the right time to come, lamb like chastity and purity is there in and around you, peace and hopes are lingering around you with the cool breeze of evening. “ The great eve of your wedding ceremony”

The accessories which you could use only in the evening do prove their importance by making you gorgeous and emotional quotient is hyper at such great times.

So, I have decided to plan my wedding ceremony in the evening and have all the natural beauties like sunset atmosphere, birds returning to nests feel, mind full of homesickness for maternal and eagerness for future , intermingling of joy and grief together etc in very meaningful context because of evening planned wedding.

There are many ideas, themes for such wedding ceremonies. Themes like sunset, moonlight or

Inglenook, and yes candlelight arrangements at party could prove magical in such atmosphere. I don’t know whether it is practical or not, my “would be” will agree the theme or what, but I do have this dream.

However, the best answer would be that this smart bride had her Mojuba Wedding Survival Kit for Brides on hand and was able to repair her broken Manolos with the included Krazy Glue, so she could roll on with her big day.

You can plan your wedding, but you can’t plan for the unexpected…..Luckily, for all your big day’s little surprises there’s Mojuba!

The WAAM had a fabulous and festive turnout last night for the opening of the annual Holiday Show, as well our other fine exhibits.  Awards were given to selected members (names and honors to come), guests bought great art at good prices, and everyone had a wonderful time.  See the photos on the Pictures page…if you’re a member, you just might find yourself there.  If you missed the opening, the show will be up through the Holidays, so do come peruse our wares.

Visitors come to the WAAM for art and fun

It is true what they say, sometimes it’s not about finding what you want, it’s about realizing what you don’t want.  A few months ago, I hired a wedding coordinator in New Zealand to help arrange all the details of our spectacular day.  One of my requests was that she take video of the location and send it to us.  After viewing the video, I realized it wasn’t right.  The town is geared around the Glacier activities, it’s a 5 minute walk across town, and there’s not much to do other than sit in hot pools and see the glacier, go on hikes, and relax.  Which is great!  And I’m sure we’ll stop by Franz Josef and stay at Te Wanoui on our journey through the country.  However, for a wedding, it just didn’t make sense.  First, our guests would be bored out of their minds with the only shopping opportunity being at the local souvenir shop.  And, in terms of photography on the wedding day, for us to get to the locations where we would want to take pictures it would be a 25 minute drive, with a 15 minute to an hour walking through trails and most likely, mud and rain, since it is a rain forest.

It became painfully clear, this wasn’t going to work.  There’s a lot to be said for woman’s intuition, as that night while viewing the video my stomach tied up in knots and a slight nausea set in.  It took a great deal of courage on my part to break this news to Mike.  And it took a great deal of patience and openness on Mike’s part to listen and be willing to change plans.  He’s such a great guy.

Yes, we were starting at square one, and the race was on again to find the perfect location.  Keep in mind, we’re also in the process of closing escrow on our new house, and starting to pack up and move.  My days and nights were filled with obsessive researching, “wedding porn” as Mike called it.  I found another wedding planner on the opposite side of the island, and was going to hire them for $550 to just find us a venue.  Yes, just to find the venue!  As the days passed, Mike and I became more distant as I felt like I was “out on my own” trying to figure out where to get married, and he felt abandoned and useless as I wasn’t asking for his help, nor really being fully present in our everyday life.

Then, as if by magic (like it always seems to go with us) the answer was clear.  We had come full circle back to the original location I had found at the beginning of our search.  We had abandoned the idea of this place initially because we wanted to get married on our anniversary April 23, which is a Friday.  However, they charge $3,000 just to use the venue on Friday and Saturday.  So, we kept looking.  But now that we had looked, and toiled over a location and arrangements for months and months, suddenly the desire to be wed on our official anniversary no longer seemed all that important.  Not as important as saving me the anxiety and stress of taking care of everything a la carte, or paying a buttload for a wedding planner and to find a venue.  I’ll also mention that the photo opportunities in this new location are 100-fold compared to the other place.  Since we’ve hired Dror Eyal, from South Africa, to shoot the wedding, we want to have more time to shoot pictures than driving around to locations.  So we changed the date in order to have our wedding in an extraordinary location, and have our honored guests have an extraordinary time!  I’m very happy to announce the details of our new wedding plans:

THE LOCATION

Stoneridge Estate – Queenstown, NZ

We will take 2 helicopters to the top of The Remarkables, a mountain range located on the southeastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, the range lives up to its name by rising sharply to create an impressive backdrop for the waters.  At the top of this glorious landscape we will be married in the presence of close friends and family.  We will have a champagne toast, take some pictures and fly back down to the reception.  We will have a 5 course meal, drinks, some cake, and dance a little (thank you iPod).   Being in Queenstown will allow our wonderful guests to enjoy a bit of civilization, while at the same time having opportunities to venture out and experience the glorious wilderness of the south island.  This will help save time in money in travel as they won’t have to rent a car, or drive for hours to get to the location.  We are very excited about this change of events, and hope you will be too!

Fall music. 12×16. Watercolor.

I will be the featured artist at Cary Gallery of Artists (www.carygalleryofartists.org) in December. I will be exhibiting my Plein Air oil and watercolor paintings. My new work includes “Fall Music”. I saw this young man playing guitar at the boat house of Durant nature park. I first did his pencil sketch and then this watercolor. I have also done new oil paintings. I recently bought a pochade box and have been using it for oils outdoors. It is much lighter to carry than the French easel. My latest oil painting was with the Paint NC group at Prairie Ridge- I did a painting of my fellow artist Winnie Ferguson.

I had people ask me if I teach painting. I currently do not teach. However, if you have any questions on painting, I will be glad to answer those. Also, if you would like to paint with me, please contact me. I paint outdoors frequently, but, do not have a set schedule.

The league is full of Ovechkins, Khabibulins, Rafalskis, and Frolovs, and I get Johnson and Brown

On Saturday, the beau drove me to Los Angeles to see the Kings play the Calgary Flames. He surprised me with seats directly behind the Kings bench. We couldn’t really see either end of the ice, but I got a front-row view of what NHL players do when they’re not on the ice, which apparently involves chewing on their mouth guards and staring into the middle distance. The Kings ended up losing 5-2, but it didn’t matter, because OMG. Erik Ersberg looked at me! And Drew Doughty did, too. I was glanced at by professional hockey players FOR MY BIRTHDAY.***

After the game was over, we walked around downtown L.A. for a while, gawking. We ended up at Cole’s, where we sat at the bar and were each served a delicious Ginger Rogers. This got us talking about signature wedding drinks, and whether we should have them.****

One of our criteria for selecting a venue was that they permit liquor on the premises, so we’ve got that straightened out. Now we just need to figure out the drinks. Will we have a full bar, or a couple of select mixed drink options?

The beau is interested in liquor infusions, and I support this wholeheartedly, especially if my contribution involves sitting on the couch while the beau brings me delicious, delicious samples. He’s already done bacon-infused vodka (so good in bloody marys), so he’s looking for something new. Something like… ginger-infused gin? Ohhh, I would be happy if the Ginger Rogers was one of our signatures. We have some friends that aren’t into gin, it’s true. But if we had a basic bar to go along with it (whiskey and coke, vodka and tonic), no one would miss anything, right? Right?

Can we have signature drinks and a bar? Can we have both? Is this too much booze? Is that a dumb question? Are you having signature drinks? Is it to save money, or are you just interested in maintaining a unified theme?

* I secretly love the fact that my birthday falls on the same day as the fictitious, ill-timed wedding of Roger Sterling’s daughter Margaret on the show Mad Men. Yes, I am one of those crazy Mad Men people. Please carry on about your business.
