In honor of the new video game out today, Dante’s Inferno, I’m reviewing one of my most favorite books: The Divine Comedy, by Dante Alighieri. There are a million different translations out there, but my favorite are the ones edited by John Ciardi.

The Divine Comedy

I first read these books the summer between high school and college. I actually read The Inferno, which follows Dante on his journey through Hell, during my first ever flight–I felt like I was reading what would happen to me when I died, because I was sure the plane was going to crash.

The Divine Comedy is broken into three books: The Inferno (hell), The Purgatorio (purgatory) and The Paradiso (heaven). Through the three part journey Dante’s character goes on, the growth and salvation of man is seen–he starts out angry, scared and suspicious, but eventually goes to heaven with the help of an angel and true, pure love. Honestly, and I may be a bad person for this, I found The Inferno to be the only truly interesting book of the three. Maybe it’s just my evil human nature coming through, but hell just seemed like such a better story line.

These books are some of the most influential literature written, and although some of the grammar and word choice may be a bit off at times (it is translated from an older form of Italian, after all), the great detail and depth Dante puts into the characters is worth the struggle. If anything, reading The Inferno is worth it for the ability to freak yourself out on a long plane ride!

Now she’s setting a trap for Johnny, who has two children with long-time love Vanessa Paradis. “She goes on and on about how fabulous Johnny is,” reveals the friend. “She’s intense and goes for anything and anyone she wants. She has no limits!”

Things could all come to a head when they head for Venice, Italy at the end of February. But don’t look for Brad to be there to intervene. “Angie told Brad she’s going to Italy without him,” says the friend. “Angie knows what she wants, and she doesn’t want Brad in the way!”

Palin ‘Would Be Willing’ to Take On Obama in 2012

Sarah Palin has President Obama in her sights, telling FoxNews.com she “would be willing” to challenge him in the 2012 presidential race.

The former Alaska governor, in an interview Saturday on the sidelines of the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville, said President Obama’s “lack of experience” has held him back his first year in office and that she would put her credentials up against his any day.

“I would be willing to if I believe that it’s right for the country,” Palin said when asked if she would run for president in 2012.

She qualified the statement, adding that she sees “many” other potential candidates who are “in as strong or stronger position than I am to take on the White House and if they’re in a better position than I in three years, I’ll support them.”

But the former GOP vice presidential nominee told “Fox News Sunday”: “I won’t close the door that perhaps could be open for me in the future.”

Palin is doing more than simply dipping her toe in the water with tentative talk of presidential aspirations. Since unexpectedly leaving the Alaska Governor’s Mansion last year, she’s formed a political action committee, she’s started endorsing and supporting candidates in the Republican primaries, she’s published a book and she’s been agitating the administration on a regular basis.

She delivered the keynote address Saturday at the tea party convention, using it to hammer Obama as soft on terrorism. When convention organizer Judson Phillips mentioned the idea of “President Palin” in a question-and-answer session afterward, audience members leapt to their feet and burst into a chant of “Run, Sarah, Run.”

In the near-term, Palin said she is going to focus her energy on the upcoming GOP primaries, and that she may support “hundreds” of candidates in the months ahead.

“I do want competition to allow the cream of the crop to rise (in the GOP contests),” Palin said, adding that her support would translate into everything from donations to campaign rallies. “There are hundreds of candidates on local, state and on the national level that hopefully we’ll be able to help.”

Palin recently endorsed Rand Paul, the son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. She said she was attracted to his limited government platform and that she’s already donated to the campaign.

Asked which other races she’s focusing on, Palin, who’s a Fox News analyst, said she’ll “do whatever I can to help” the Republican nominee, whoever he or she is, against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada.

“If the election were today, Reid … would go down,” Palin said.

However, she said she doesn’t have any favorites in the Republican primary — and dismissed the idea that she fancies herself a political kingmaker.

“That’s going too far because I do not have that power nor desire,” she said.

During her Saturday keynote address and in her interview with FoxNews.com, Palin pointed to the tea party movement as the surging political force that will make waves in the upcoming elections.

She said tea party support will “absolutely” be critical for candidates in some districts and that the GOP should not be scared of the movement.

“It absolutely helps (the Republican Party) and those who are fearful about it and those who are trying to stir up controversy about it — they obviously are apprehensive in terms of the message getting out there, and those people are gonna get thumped because this is a good message,” she said. “Who can argue this movement?”

As Palin aligns herself more closely with the evolving tea party movement, some surveys suggest she could have the support to eventually mount a competitive presidential run — despite tough questions raised during the 2008 campaign about her experience and qualifications. A poll last week had her leading, by a few points, the pack of potential GOP candidates. The Research 2000 poll also showed Republican voters viewing her as more qualified to be president than Obama by a 4-1 margin.

Asked whether she believes she’s more qualified than Obama, Palin showed little hesitation.

“In the campaign, we tried to bring attention to the fact that Obama had really not a lot of experience. And I do say that my executive experience, as an administrator, as a team manager if you will was, and so was John McCain’s as a matter of fact, was stronger and we had more experience than Barack Obama did in terms of managing huge multi-billion dollar budgets and thousands of employees …¦ and that hasn’t changed,” Palin said.

“I think that President Obama with all due respect, his lack of experience is really made manifest in the way that decisions are made in the White House today,” she added.

Palin slammed Obama in her Nashville speech for his foreign and national security policies. And with health care reform on the ropes, she told FoxNews.com it’s time to pull the plug.

“I sure wish that the present tool being used to reform health care would die, but I don’t trust as far as I can throw them some of the people who are saying ok, we’ll slow down,” she said. “What they’re working on today there in Congress and the White House, it needs to die.”

Warren Sapp, a University of Miami legend and former All-Pro lineman in town to provide TV commentary for the Super Bowl, was arrested by Miami Beach police Saturday after his girlfriend accused him of choking her and throwing her in the couple’s hotel room.

The alleged attack occurred about 5 a.m., after the couple had been partying at Miami Beach’s Shore Club hotel, 1901 Collins Ave., the police report said.

The woman — police did not identify her — called authorities at noon Saturday. Officers arrived at the hotel and met with the 37-year-old former NFL star before taking him to police headquarters, said police spokesman Detective Juan Sanchez.

After detectives questioned Sapp and his girlfriend, police charged Sapp with misdemeanor domestic battery. He was taken to Miami-Dade County jail Saturday evening.

Sapp was set to provide commentary for the Super Bowl — but the NFL Network is taking him off the air until the company reviews the incident.

The girlfriend told police she had been sleeping in the couple’s hotel room when Sapp came in, pulled her out of bed and demanded that she leave the room. As she began to get dressed, he grabbed her neck and began to choke her, the report said.

He shoved her onto a couch and questioned her about men she listed on her cell phone, then picked her up by her shirt and neck and threw her back down, the report stated.

The tussle continued, the report said, and Sapp eventually pushed her out of the room, where she sought help from someone in the hallway.

The report said he sent her a text message that said, “You whore.”

Police reported the woman had bruises on her neck and a swollen right knee. She was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center.

But, according to the report, Sapp told police there was no fight — and that she slipped off the couch after he asked her to leave the room because he was expecting company.

Sapp told detectives he “tried to help her get off the couch, but she fell backwards and fell on her leg,” the report stated.

Sapp was a star defensive tackle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders before retiring in 2008. He then competed on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, where he finished in second place. He has his own clothing line, QB Killa, and is a commentator on the NFL Network’s GameDay Morning.

The NFL Network is temporarily pulling him off the job.

“In light of these circumstances, Warren Sapp will not appear on NFL Network while we review the matter,” the company said in an e-mail to The Miami Herald.

Sapp is no stranger to Miami Beach: At other times, he’s been spotted at The Forge restaurant and swimming at the Gansevoort South hotel’s rooftop pool, racing Olympic champion Michael Phelps.

Hours before the incident with his girlfriend Saturday morning, Sapp was scheduled to appear at the B.E.D. nightclub on South Beach for a disk jockey’s birthday party.

The Government Has Your Baby’s DNA

(CNN) — When Annie Brown’s daughter, Isabel, was a month old, her pediatrician asked Brown and her husband to sit down because he had some bad news to tell them: Isabel carried a gene that put her at risk for cystic fibrosis.

While grateful to have the information — Isabel received further testing and she doesn’t have the disease — the Mankato, Minnesota, couple wondered how the doctor knew about Isabel’s genes in the first place. After all, they’d never consented to genetic testing.

It’s simple, the pediatrician answered: Newborn babies in the United States are routinely screened for a panel of genetic diseases. Since the testing is mandated by the government, it’s often done without the parents’ consent, according to Brad Therrell, director of the National Newborn Screening & Genetics Resource Center.

In many states, such as Florida, where Isabel was born, babies’ DNA is stored indefinitely, according to the resource center.

Many parents don’t realize their baby’s DNA is being stored in a government lab, but sometimes when they find out, as the Browns did, they take action. Parents in Texas, and Minnesota have filed lawsuits, and these parents’ concerns are sparking a new debate about whether it’s appropriate for a baby’s genetic blueprint to be in the government’s possession.

“We were appalled when we found out,” says Brown, who’s a registered nurse. “Why do they need to store my baby’s DNA indefinitely? Something on there could affect her ability to get a job later on, or get health insurance.”

Sarah Palin calls for Obama to fire Rahm Emanuel over ‘f—-ing retarded’ comment

Rahm Emanuel’s penchant for profanity has now drawn the ire of Sarah Palin. The ex-Alaska governor is demanding President Obama fire the White House chief of Staff for remarks she says were disparaging of the disabled.

In a strategy session between White House aides and progressive groups, Emanuel called a plan to air attack ads against fellow Democrats opposed to health-care legislation ‘f—-ing retarded.’ The remarks were reported in the Wall Street Journal.

Palin slammed the comments, saying they were as outrageous as a public figure using the N-word in a screed posted on Facebook. Palin’s youngest son, Trig, was born with Downs syndrome.

“Yes, Rahm is known for his caustic, crude references about those with whom he disagrees, but his recent tirade against participants in a strategy session was such a strong slap in many American faces that our president is doing himself a disservice by seeming to condone Rahm’s recent sick and offensive tactic,” she wrote.

“Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the “N-word” or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking.”

Palin went on to demand Obama respond to the numerous condemnations of Emanuel’s remarks by advocates for the disabled.

The 2008 GOP vice-presidential candidate is no stranger to whipping up a brouhaha on Facebook. Last summer in a Facebook post she invoked her son in slamming Obama’s health care plan.

“The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,’ whether they are worthy of health care,” Palin wrote. “Such a system is downright evil.”

Tiger’s ‘not normal’ sex play

Tiger Woods’ alleged call-girl Loredana Jolie says the disgraced golfer is such a freak in bed, his stint in a rehab for sex addiction probably won’t cure him.

“He would engage in sex from 9 p.m. until the sun came up the next morning. But he wasn’t a healthy guy. He couldn’t sleep and would stay up all night. I am not really sure rehab for sex addiction will help him,” Jolie told Page Six yesterday.

Loredana’s rep, Teisha Dynell, told us, “There are many other celebrity clients, actors and businessmen from New York, California and around the world.”

But it is doubtful she “escorted” anyone more famous than Tiger, who supposedly hired her for a series of sessions for two years until 2008.

“Tiger’s sexual fantasies were not normal,” the wannabe author says. “He likes role-playing, he likes to be the guy in control and wearing a suit while there are girls performing girl-on-girl and guys entertaining guys. By that, I mean they would dance for each other like girls would do for a man,” the would-be author claimed.

“He’d have different girls all the time, entertaining, role play, fetishes, stuff like that . . . But he would only watch . . . He would also ask me to text him pictures of myself when we weren’t together.”

Big, Ugly Bezel
Have you seen the bezel on this thing?! It’s huge! I know you don’t want to accidentally input a command when your thumb is holding it, but come on.

No Multitasking
This is a backbreaker. If this is supposed to be a replacement for netbooks, how can it possibly not have multitasking? Are you saying I can’t listen to Pandora while writing a document? I can’t have my Twitter app open at the same time as my browser? I can’t have AIM open at the same time as my email? Are you kidding me? This alone guarantees that I will not buy this product.

No Cameras
No front facing camera is one thing. But no back facing camera either? Why the hell not? I can’t imagine what the downside was for including at least one camera. Could this thing not handle video iChat?

Touch Keyboard
So much for Apple revolutionizing tablet inputs; this is the same big, ugly touchscreen keyboard we’ve seen on other tablets, and unless you’re lying on the couch with your knees propping it up, it’ll be awkward to use.

No HDMI Out
Want to watch those nice HD videos you downloaded from iTunes on your TV? Too damned bad! If you were truly loyal, you’d just buy an AppleTV already.

The Name iPad
Get ready for Maxi pad jokes, and lots of ‘em!

No Flash
No Flash is annoying but not a dealbreaker on the iPhone and iPod Touch. On something that’s supposed to be closer to a netbook or laptop? It will leave huge, gaping holes in websites. I hope you don’t care about streaming video! God knows not many casual internet users do. Oh wait, nevermind, they all do.

Adapters, Adapters, Adapters
So much for those smooth lines. If you want to plug anything into this, such as a digital camera, you need all sorts of ugly adapters. You need an adapter for USB for god’s sake.

Sure, it’s “unlocked.” But it won’t work on T-Mobile, and it uses microSIMs that literally no one else uses.

A Closed App Ecosystem
The iPad only runs apps from the App Store. The same App Store that is notorious for banning apps for no real reason, such as Google Voice. Sure, netbooks might not have touchscreens, but you can install whatever software you’d like on them. Want to run a different browser on your iPad? Too bad!

‘Jersey Shore’ — MTV Tries to Divide and Conquer

The stars of “Jersey Shore” have been negotiating with MTV like “Friends”… but the network could be turning them into enemies with some serious brinkmanship.

Sources tell TMZ the network has told the cast if they don’t accept MTV’s deal by the end of business Monday, they will be replaced. And, MTV has told them it does not have to be a package deal — the cast members who accept the offer will stay … those who do not can have a nice life.

As we first reported, MTV offered each cast member a $10,000 signing bonus and $5,000 per episode. We’re told the cast rejected the offer and made it clear they would all stand together and hold out for their price, though they didn’t say what it was.

MTV made a new offer of $10,000 an episode — there are 12 episodes in the new season — but so far the cast hasn’t responded.

We’re told MTV already has replacements if Snooki, Pauly D, The Situation and the others don’t accept the offer on Monday. But, we’re told, MTV is happy to mix and match if some of the cast accepts the offer and others don’t.

As for who’s being the most hard-headed in the negotiations — The Situation and Pauly D.

Communism and the Obamatrons: Beck Only Tells Half the Story

Glenn Beck will roll out his Fox News documentary today. It’s called “Live Free Or Die,” a motto taken from General John Stark and inspired by Patrick Henry’s famed March 23, 1775 speech to the House of Burgesses. Henry famously declared: “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

Glenn Beck is no Patrick Henry. His latest book’s title is a direct rip-off of Thomas Paine’s revolutionary pamphlet Common Sense. Beck is no Thomas Paine. He is not a patriot. He is an Operation Mockingbird asset and his assignment is to take down the patriot movement. He is a Judas Goat. His task is to destroy the patriot movement and lead it into political irrelevance.

In the trailer for Beck’s documentary we are reminded that communists killed millions. Beck warns that officials in the Obama administration are communists. Obama’s jettisoned “green jobs” czar Van Jones is supposedly a communist (and a black nationalist, anarchist, and 9/11 truther — take your pick). White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said Chairman Mao is one of her “favorite political philosophers.” Ron Bloom, Obama’s Manufacturing Czar, also made a fawning comment or two about Mao the Mass Murderer. “We kind of agree with Mao that political power comes largely from the barrel of a gun,” said Bloom. Does this mean Obama will launch his own version of the Cultural Revolution? Not necessarily.

It looks like Beck will leave out the most salient and important fact about Stalin and Mao: they were funded and supported by Wall Street. Morgan, Rockefeller, and the Wall Street financiers funded and supported the Russian Revolution. Leon Trotsky was given $20 million in gold by the banker Jacob Schiff to help finance the revolution. Lenin was provided a free pass to travel across Europe with the help of Max Warburg, head of the Rothschild-affiliated Warburg bank. He was put in a sealed railway car with over $5 million in gold from the German government and upon reaching Petrograd was joined by Stalin and Trotsky.

“The course of Russian history has, indeed, been greatly affected by the operations of international bankers,” Rep. Louis T. McFadden, chairman of the House Banking and Currency Committee throughout the 1920-30s, explained. “The Soviet Government has been given United States Treasury funds by the Federal Reserve Board… acting through the Chase Bank.”

“Whatever the price of the Chinese Revolution, it has obviously succeeded not only in producing more efficient and dedicated administration, but also in fostering high morale and community of purpose. The social experiment in China under Chairman Mao’s leadership is one of the most important and successful in human history,” said David Rockefeller in 1973, years after Mao exterminated around 70 million people.

It would seem a “capitalist” like Rockefeller would be opposed to Mao and communism. Gary Allen explains: “If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth program, but is in reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead, it becomes logical, even the perfect tool of power-seeking megalomaniacs,” writes Allen. “Communism or more accurately, socialism, is not a movement of the downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite.”

It remains to be seen if Beck will make this connection. It also remains to be seen if he will criticize the fact the Obama administration is packed with bankster agents from the Federal Reserve and Goldman Sachs. This is infinitely more important than a few 1960s throwbacks waving around dogeared copies of Mao’s Little Red Book.

But then Glenn Beck’s agenda is not the truth. His task is to distract us from the real issue at hand — a globalist bankster cartel is in the process of destroying the last bastion of liberty in the world.

Beck would have us chasing around communist phantoms of little relevance. If we spend all our time worried about academic Marxists who really have little power or influence, we will never expose the real culprits and deliver them to justice. Like the Red Scare of the 1950s and the Cold War, it is all a big distraction designed to hide the real criminals behind the throne.

All is suggesting that Ubuntu is more popular then ever. The old, linux is for nerds has died. Ubuntu is widely used by universities, schools for children, in homes, as servers for big companies, in public offices (France), on some cellphones and everywhere you can imagine. The faith in Windows has dropped drastically the last years. Tiger is living without a roommate in one of the cottages at Gentle Path. The Enquirer reports that he checked into the six-week program on December 30.

The free operating system Ubuntu seams to have exploded the last years. These data is taken from the Alexa.com page views. This data is by no means scientific research and it all relies on ifs and buts. Anyway these statistics is interesting and surprising.

Ubuntu versions is released in a 6 month cycle, which clearly shows on the statistics. On the last Ubuntu release Ubuntu pageviews doubled and reached near 0.08 % of all world browser statistics in the world in total. Based on the statistics of wikipedia and wikipedias own views statistic that equals roughly 2 million views each of these days. This is promising news for the next version of Ubuntu Lucid Lynx which also is a long term release edition. Ubuntu is going to present major improvements in the new release on April 28. and the users are hyped about this. If the trend continues we might see the percent of Ubuntu pageviews pass windows in the next release. This due to the last 8.04 LTS is up for replacement, the trend of increase of popularity in ubuntu, the users of older versions wants to get the Long term release and more users is getting interested in Ubuntu. It’s unreasonable to believe that it will stay on top for long time after this release if it ends up on top, but what happens shortly after is insecure.
