Manas is one of the best National Parks in India; it is a World Heritage site, and one of the National Parks included in Project Tiger. The only natural habitat of one horned India Rhinoceros after Kaziranga. It is also a natural store house for a wide range of wild life. Manas is dotted on the foothills of Himalayas, bordering Assam and Bhutan. It is really a slice of Paradise preserving several endangered species from extinction. Manas National Park is also blessed with some rare species of orchids to add its beauty. The finding of Red Pandas within the Langtang National Park area has encouraged conservationists.

A team of conservationists led by lecturer Hari Prasad Sharma, department of zoology (TU), had recently found one Red Panda each in Chandanbari area of Rasuwa and Dhadepani area of Nuwakot. It is believed that the areas harbor around 100 Red Pandas. The areas lie at an altitude of 2,800 to 4,000 metres above sea level.

The mission was initiated by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation’s Himalayan Landscape Project supported by WWF.

The Langtang National Park said it was preparing a long-term conservation strategy to protect the Red Pandas by securing food and habitat for them so that internal and foreign tourists could be lured to the area and contribute to the living condition of the people living in the region.

BuzzFeed just posted a *new* panda sneezing video and CuteOverload is sharing some red panda adorableness, which means I’m going to go on a trip down Panda Lovin’ Lane. I love pandas. They’re Chinese, just like me, so we’re basically cousins.

One of my favorite activities in the world is teddy bear rolls, and pandas, being bears, love them, too. Observe:

Pandas are very particular about where they live, essentially residing at only a certain altitude in the mountains. The cold winters in their homes makes for their thick coats of fur and rolly polly stature. They mainly eat bamboo, but pandas for your bento box can be made remarkably accurately with pressed balls of rice. (See right.)

Pandas are not very versatile creatures. They eat and bathe their babies by licking their fur as they roll their baby bodies – Kind of like if you were to lick the butter off of a piece of corn on the cob… They squeak (as you ought to know from the original panda sneeze video that started it all) and only consist of two colors. Pandas do, however, love to dance.

Pandas are considered “noble” animals (as stated by some guy on the Planet Earth DVDs), and they are the starring animal for the World Wildlife Fund logo. Also, they’re just really entertaining when they sneeze. To end this “I love pandas” post, here are those panda sneeze videos:

Rare twin red pandas were filmed on Friday at Australia’s Canberra zoo. The male cubs at the National Zoo were born in December but only recently emerged from their den.

I am so in love with Bake & Destroy. If you ever have the time, check it out. Her cupcakes are amazing, and she created a zombie cookbook. You can’t get more awesome. Today I had the afternoon to myself, so I decided to try out the chocolate buttermilk cupcakes with espresso buttercream. The end result is a fucking orgasm in your mouth, but let me tell you, making buttercream is not easy at all. Ok, it might be easy if you’re one of those people who pay attention to directions…but if you’re like me and just dumped everything into the bowel before reading the recipe…it turns into a fun experience. The butter wasn’t quite room temperature, close enough but still a little cold. That was my first mistake. The second mistake was putting everything together at the same time. You were supposed to mix the powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla in one bowel, and the coffee stuff in another, then blend them together. Needless to say when I turned the mixer on I got a face full of powdered sugar and a beater full of butter.

After a long and painstaking effort, I got it all together. The instant coffee didn’t dissolve completely, but it makes for pretty flecks in the buttercream, and doesn’t taste bad at all. People eat chocolate covered espresso beans, so I assumed it wouldn’t be a big deal. My favorite detail about this cupcake are the toppers. I found them courtesy of, again, Bake & Destroy. What sold me is the fact that Tenorikuma is a tiny little red panda who makes coffee. Two favorites in one, plus I’m a sucker for cute Japanese characters. A word of caution about the cake itself: it is quite moist and delicate, so handle with care! I almost broke a couple just taking them out of the pan.

 Next project is French Toast cupcakes for my dad’s birthday, then Red Hot Bettie Paige cupcakes for Bill.

The pandas broke free five days ago after a tree fell onto their pen during a storm. The racoon-like animals are now thought to be in a wooded area close to Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park.

Constable Ian Bradley of Dumfries and Galloway Police, urged anyone who sees the red pandas to contact police in Kirkcudbright.
