With a restful Thanksgiving break behind us, it’s back to the grind! Looking at my calendar for the next two weeks is enough to give me an ulcer. 1 presentation, 1 oral exam, 3 papers and 5 finals in the next two weeks. My only comfort comes from knowing that 2 weeks from now I’ll be almost done with all of it! There are the worst few weeks of the semester, and after my third year of enduring it each fall and spring, I barely feel any more prepared! Here are a few things I have caught onto over the past few years:

1. Be patient. If you want a seat in the library, be prepared to make friends or fight for it. (Kidding, no brawling in the library, please!) The library is never as full as it is during finals, and each year I am surprised at the number of students packing the pathways and tables among the books. Claim a table early, study with a friend, or find another quiet place to cram.

2. Keep you schedule. Don’t stop eating and sleeping to study from dawn until dusk. You’ll crash before your second exam.

3. Eat snacks! Take advantage of the refreshments in the library on Tuesday, December 8. Everyone needs a snack and a study break!

4. Chill out! Finals are not the end of the world. before we know it, it will be Christmas break and finals will all be a distant memory.

Hang in there, Duquesne!

I had a great turn out at my Scentsy Party last night. We laughed, ate pumpkin roll and pumpkin spice cookies, we drank harvest punch and we sampled scents.

We had a great time!

Kodi loved the party, he got plenty of attention from the ladies who shared the evening with me.

Friends trickled out, with the last leaving just before 11 pm.

Thanks to all my friends who made the evening so much fun!

Everybody knows that Utah is highly populated with Latter-Day Saints, and with that comes the Mormon culture. For some reason, people are more likely to go to events such as church dances, Relief society or Priesthood events, and firesides, if refreshments are involved. Refreshments usually include rich, delicious sugary treats. Obesity, heart disease, and diabetes are on the rise, no thanks to our glorious high sugar, fat, and caloric treats. We may not pay for that package of Oreos we ate last week right away, but one day it will catch up to us.

Recently, I went to a fireside that provided some mouth watering treats, but also fresh fruits and vegetables – grapes, tomatoes, strawberries, and carrots. What I observed is that most people went for the fruits and vegetables as opposed to the sweets. So if there is an alternative present, people will sometimes go for the alternative to unnatural sweets. The best way to change behavior is to strengthen alternatives.

What can we do to stop this? Well for starters, you can still have treats, just spread them out. We can’t always control what is being served at church activities, but we do have the choice of what we eat. No need to always have desserts or goodies everyday of the week- that just takes away from the fact that it’s a treat and makes it more of an everyday expected thing. You can always try to make your favorite treats into healthier ones. I have to admit that cookie dough is my weakness. But I found a recipe that is a healthier alternative to cookies (Tip: Whenever a recipe calls for oil, you can always substitute for applesauce instead!). You might not notice the differences now, but when you get to spend a longer life with your loved ones, you’ll be thanking yourself for choosing healthier alternatives.

Sunday, November 22 at 6:30 I’m hosting a Scentsy Wickless Candle party at my home. I’m very excited, because it’s a great excuse to gather a bunch of female friends together for some laughs, to see what’s new out there and to enjoy each other’s company. I really don’t even care if no one buys anything. It’s just going to be a good time.

The Scentsy Wickless Candles are cool. It consists of a warmer that plugs into the wall or a night light style that plugs into the wall. The warmers have a 20 watt bulb under a dish where you place chunks of scented wax. The bulb melts the wax and ooohhh does it every smell intense and incredible. You can pour the wax back into the tray it comes in and use it again another time.

I’m looking forward to having some great Autumn refreshments such as homemade Pumpkin Roll, Pumpkin Spice Cookies, Pumpkin Tea, Pumpkin Spice Latte and Apple Cider.

I love entertaining friends and family. I love to put a fire in the fireplace and get some folks together for some laughs, games, to talk and have good eats.

I love candles and Autumn scents. I burn them all year round.

This November is going to be one busy month! Going to have a full house more than once throughout the month, as it looks like we will be hosting hubby’s Aunt, Uncle and his Mother for Thanksgiving. Going to have a full table, especially with my friend being here too. Have to bring the ‘big’ dinner table in from the shed just for Thanksgiving. I’m getting really excited, though Autumn is flying right by in the bat of an eye.

I’ll post some pictures from the party if I remember to take some. LOL

We’ve cover all the basics of running a successful company meeting and I thought it best to do

We’ve cover all the basics of running a successful company meeting and I thought it best to do a quick summary so that nothing is left to chance. Implement these simple steps, and you’re team will be looking forward to the next one. Each subject links back to the original blog.

Part 1. Preparation – Invite attendees well in advance. Have the room ready (chair, mic, podium, etc.).
Part 1. Refreshments – Snacks, drinks, maybe lunch.
Part 2. Breaking the ice – Start with an appropriate story or joke.
Part 2. Starting the Presentation – Keep everyone engaged. Ask questions. Add Audio visuals to keep it interesting.
Part 3. Guest Speaker – Invite a motivator, vendor, client or customer to speaker.
Part 3. Questions – Invite questions before and during the meeting. Repeat them, so there’s no misunderstanding.
Part 4. Goals and Agenda – Have clear realistic objectives and goals for the outcome. Stick to the agenda and timeline.

Running a successful company meeting is fairly easy. If you’re not comfortable speaking in front of a group, it may take a little more practice. But I can assure you, if you’re prepared and follow the simple steps in this series of blogs, you’ll do a great job.

“Great, another meeting. Like I have time to waste an hour.” Have you heard that before

“Great, another meeting. Like I have time to waste an hour.” Have you heard that before…or said it yourself? At some point, we probably all have. That’s because most people don’t know how to prepare and run a successful meeting. Over the next of series of blogs, we’re going make sure you’re not one of them.

Preparation
So let’s get this meeting started. Email out the time, date and place well in advance, so there will be no good excuses for those who can’t attend. If it’s a weekly meeting, you can still send confirmation requested emails. And if you’re able, set the meeting schedule for the next few months. If you require any prep work by the attendees, make sure you provide the information well in advance, so that if there are questions, they’re not raised at the meeting.

Refreshments
Nothing says “Welcome to the meeting,” like food. There’s no question that people love to eat at a meeting. Have drinks and snacks. Lunch, if appropriate. Make sure you’ve allotted time for eating, as it will take time to get everyone settled and ready to work. They will appreciate the effort.

Okay, now you’re ready to get started…tomorrow.

If you have any comments, please write them below. If you’re interested in a consultation or have questions, please email me at Robert@RobertFinkelstein.com.

McGinley, most widely known for his absolutely remarkable performance in the NBC medical comedy drama ‘Scrubs,’ took to some very amazing advertising, and said advertisements unfortunately did not get publicised so much. After watching these however, I think you will find that you will agree with me when I said they should have been.

It’s easy in saying that the british never get amazing advertisements such as this. Yes, before you mention it. The brunette referees are attractive. In fact, a challenge to the readers, if you know of any hilarious advertisements.. I would be glad to show them!

EA and Dr Pepper to Create Unrivaled Gaming Experience with Exclusive Premium Downloadable Content

The Sims 3 Will Be First Game in Multi-Title Relationship

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. & PLANO, Texas, Jun 25, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Dr Pepper today announced that the companies have entered a multimillion-dollar marketing agreement that brings original content to Dr Pepper consumers via EA’s blockbuster portfolio of games.
This one day conference will bring together postgraduate and early career researchers from across the health and social sciences and provide them with the opportunity to:

present their own research and get constructive feedback

meet researchers from other social science disciplines

learn more about developing an academic career

The conference is organised by ARRC, a group which encourages interdisciplinary research and collaboration within the health and social sciences. We are inviting papers and posters from researchers whose work will have relevance across the health and social science disciplines. This could be in terms of methodology, topic or theoretical approach. Researchers and postgraduates at all stages of their research are welcome. We do not expect all abstracts to be about completed research, they can also reflect on work in progress. There will be a prize for the best paper.

If you would like to present a paper or display a poster at this event please email a short abstract (300 words) to arrc-conference@events.york.ac.uk .
