Complicated procedures for tax reimbursement and the wasteful use of public properties were hot issues discussed on Ho Chi Minh City Television’s “Speak and Act” dialogue program on January 3.

“It is not simple to process tax reimbursements, as we must check that the tax has been paid with the banks. It is very hard to get it done promptly, especially for large tax refund applications,” said deputy head of the city Tax Department, Nguyen Trong Hanh, in response to queries on the show about cumbersome VAT refund procedures.

Speak and Act is a program on HTV’s Channel 9 that features discussions between government officials and questioners.

Last year, the department received about 4,000 such applications, of which more than 3,000 applications were handled, with the amount of refunded tax accounting for 35 percent of total VAT collection, Hanh said.

Recently, during an inspection at the city’s department, Finance Ministry inspectors warned the department about tardy tax reimbursements, but the department defended themselves saying that some of the reimbursements were as much as VND100 billion (US$5.4 million) and required time consuming checks.

Hanh promised that the tax department would cut half of the VAT reimbursement processes this year.

Since 2004, the department has cut one-third of the formalities related to tax collection and payment and encouraged taxpayers to make e-declarations of tax on its website, he said.

The agency also offer consultancy on tax issues for taxpayers at its office, he said.

Wasteful use of State-owned premises

More than 24,000 square meters of public land were leased out illegally by groups and corporations last year, according to a survey conducted by the Speak and Act program.

2009 also saw the city authorities revoke 605,969 square meters of property and land from the 6 million square meters of land managed and used by State groups and corporations, the survey said.

Nguyen Minh Hoang, a questioner, said, “When leases expire, tenants should stop renting the land out to others.”

He warned that the waste of public property was a big problem in the city.

“An inspection in District 8, Binh Tan District, of the city’s Food Company, and Warehouse and Yard Company revealed they were wasting half of the area that was allocated to them.”

The Food Company has been assigned 307 premises with a total area of more than 300,000 square meters but it only used 195 premises or less than 100,000 square meters, he said.

In response, the representative of the city Trade Department said these figures were not official and confirmed that the department and the city People’s Committee have asked the Finance Ministry to help revoke the rights to some of the unused premises.

Deputy director of the city Finance Department, Tran Nam Trang, said the city authorities have proposed for the Finance Ministry to take back 40 premises that has been used inefficiently or left empty.

A former city councilman in Indianapolis wants the ticket holders to receive a refund for Sunday

A former city councilman in Indianapolis wants the ticket holders to receive a refund for Sunday’s lackluster and disappointing performance. Coach Jim Caldwell gave up on a chance at a perfect season and removed Peyton Manning and other key players in the third quarter of the Colts’ loss to the Jets.

Beurt SerVaas, one of the most influential people in the city, has drafted a City-County Council resolution demanding that the NFL refund the money paid for tickets.

SerVaas was incensed that the Colts decided not to go for the win on Sunday and he doesn’t think it’s fair to charge full price for tickets to a game the Colts aren’t trying to win. However, is looks as if he doesn’t have much support for his idea.

“Everyone likes to play Monday-morning quarterback,” said Republican Ryan Vaughn, who is described by the Indianapolis Star as both the likely next council president and a season-ticket holder. “I think we have better things to do with our time than second-guess the decisions made by the Colts coaches.”

Even if the council did pass such a resolution, the odds of the NFL issuing a refund are precisely zero. Nice try, though.

I actually get all next week off of work. YAY! Plenty of time to move and it has given me plenty of time the past few days to rest and to craft! I’ve been crocheting a ton of my wallet creations. For more you can see some posted on my other blog here

http://myheartresonateswithaglorioussound.blogspot.com

Now off to sleep. I pulled something in my back two days ago, woke up and could barely move….did that stop me? Nope, saturday I ended up moving some of my stuff, going to the gym to run and running errands. Today I paid for it. Could barely walk, Scott forced me to rest. I did, after I got my money back from PR & Partners in the town center and making a quick stop to the Paper Source and Anthropologie (I’ve been considering on cute, vintage looking anthro bridesmaid dressed for the wedding). Went home and rested….well rested and crafted. Prayerfully tomorrow I will be fully healed of my back problems.

*Jakarta Globe, 23 December 2009 Never is there a greater desire to leave a country than when you’re

*Jakarta Globe, 23 December 2009

Never is there a greater desire to leave a country than when you’re prevented from doing so. Looking utterly disheveled into my 13th hour at the Simon Bolivar airport in Caracas, I groggily awoke on a departure hall bench to Spanglish boarding announcements, having experienced the most traumatic incident of my traveling career.

The previous night I was detained, had my stomach x-rayed by the anti-narcotics police for suspicion of being a drug mule, was grilled by a vertically and mentally challenged national guard for no apparent reason and had my passport confiscated and thoroughly examined under ultra-violet lights and a magnifying glass for its authenticity. These minor hassles I laughed off. But my mirth promptly expired when a representative of Air Canada denied me the right to board my flight to New York. The reason stated on both my flight record and the hardcopy now in my possession read: “Indonesian citizen without visa to Canada. Denied board.”

I had no intention of entering Canada. The airline just so happened to transit in Toronto en route to New York City. A bloated airline rep offered no solace when he said new information had come to light stating Indonesian citizens require a visa to enter Canadian airspace. Since when? “Sorry, we don’t know. Try flying with another airline,” was the answer. Perhaps due to the initial shock I managed to remain calm, though the plan of suing the airlines for causing emotional distress was already hatching in my head. In my fog of shock, someone handed me the phone numbers to American and Continental airlines, which I promptly lost.

Since Air Canada was the last flight, departing at 1.55 a.m., all other airlines had shut down. There was no use badgering anyone until morning. I headed for the arrival hall food court where other travelers, who preferred the stiff seats between Subway and Church’s Chicken rather than challenging the crime-filled streets of Caracas to catch their red-eye flights, were spending the night.

There I met Juan Francisco, a recent engineering graduate also heading for New York City. He is planning to purchase a Dell computer in America to resell in Venezuela for profitable black market dollars. Borrowing his iPhone, my heart sank upon seeing the prices of last minute flights to the USA from this mountainous country. In exchange for using his phone, we watched comedies on my laptop to while away the long hours until dawn and took turns watching each other’s luggage during toilet runs.

At 3.30 a.m., I parted ways with Juan Francisco and tried my luck with the airlines. Within the next few hours, I’d exhausted all my options, was becoming unhinged and ready to roll into a distraught ball of bawling and tears. All the airlines – American, Copa, Aerolinas Argentinas, Delta, Continental and even one I had never heard of called Santa Barbara – heading for the US cities of Miami, Houston and Atlanta were not only fully booked, they were “overbooked” to quote one airline rep.

Continental took pity on my frantic figure and placed me on their standby list. At this point, I was ready to be cargo. I was ready to shed my 40-liter backpack of dirty laundry and be a bagless vagabond, as long as I was a bagless vagabond on my way out of South America. I felt like a hapless lover spurned by all those I’d courted and rejection inspires desperation.

My situation was such: I had no working phone to contact friends or family, was denied board by Air Canada, denied a refund by Air Canada, every airline heading for the US was overbooked and only one out of five airline reps spoke English, I possessed less than $400 to my name and was not at all confident my credit card wasn’t maxed out yet. There was also the issue of a connecting flight from NYC to Singapore I was scheduled to be on at 2100 that night. In my attempt to be a frugal globetrotter, all my flights were cheap but non-refundable, making my Christmas homecoming surprise trickier to accomplish. In the meantime, the memories of my gastronomically happy moments in Venezuela rapidly eroded and were replaced by a surety of my never setting foot on the entire continent of South America ever again.

But when the sky burst into dawn flames over the looming Avila Mountains in the distance, American Airlines pulled through for me. They found me a direct flight at noon that would get me to NYC in time to catch my connecting flight to Asia. The cost was exorbitant and only three seats were left. I prayed (for my Visa to function) and paid.

As a traveler, I rely on impulse and instinct, trusting that I’ll get where I need to go safely and promptly, priding myself when I do so. I consider them my little accomplishments, minor victories won in the battlefield of voyages. Air Canada was a bitter lesson, where I learned not every wish acted on a whim can be granted every time, even if it is the wish to return home.

I am a Buyer on eBay and just started to sell items. I have put up a total of 5 items for Auction. 3

I am a Buyer on eBay and just started to sell items. I have put up a total of 5 items for Auction. 3 Transactions (2 Sales Items, 1 Purchase item) have gone south due to Scammers. A very high Ratio of my Items for Sale have been intruded upon by Scammers (2 of 5.) Here is a synopsis:

1) Buyer is in The United States, bids on a Laptop in the last 2 minutes of the auction and wins. The buyer wants me to Ship the item to Nigeria!!!!! and sends many Spoof eBay & PayPal Emails to try to get me to ship the item and get paid afterwards!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!! The Seller Unregisters from eBay shortly afterwards. eBay & PayPal are notified, and inform me that the Seller is no longer registered and appropriate actions (which are private) were taken.

2) Buyer puts in 1 Bid, in a Buy it Now Listing. Buyer wins a Pair of new Ecco Shoes, and is located in the United Kingdom. The Buyer then wants me to ship the item to the Ukraine. I send 4 Messages to the Buyer informing him that I cannot complete the Transaction, and the reasons why. My Listing says United States and also You are in the United Kingdom and want me to ship to the Ukraine, a third-party transaction. He must have read them, because 20 minutes later he deposits the Funds into my PayPal Account. The Shipping address is Unconfirmed and I have No Seller Protection. i inform eBay of the above in 2 chat sessions, asking what to do. I was instructed to Cancel the Transaction. I informed the buyer of such, and I also Refunded his PayPal Funds. I am awaiting the Buyers response so the transaction can be cancelled, and my Final Fees refunded to me. In the interim, he had sent me Emails, not messages from the eBay Channels, requesting tracking Info. I did not respond as I was awaiting responses to the Messages I sent Thru eBay. The seller did have a Feedback of 150 at 100% but i thought this was a suspicious transaction regarding Shipping to a third Party Country, where I would not have any Seller Protection from PayPal. It wasn’t electronics but shoes, but something didn’t seem right. Worse case scenario would be Ukraine Receiver would say never got the item, and the Bidder would ask for PayPal funds to be Refunded. Btw, the Person who paid the PayPal funds has a different name then the Bidder. And the Shipping address in the Ukraine has a different name than all of them,.

3) Seller in Hong Kong Ships? a ring I won 35 days ago. I never received it. I notify eBay, after there were no responses to my messages to the Seller. eBay opens a case, and the Seller agrees to Refund my money. He never did, and eBay refunds my money after 8 days.

I have wasted many hours of my time regarding resolving these issues. I will NOT be selling on eBay anymore as it is Not Worth The Time Necessary to resolve issues. All of my for Auction items say United States in the Info Box to the Right of the Listing. As for the Hong Kong Transaction, I did not realize the Seller was in Hong Kong, so I will be more careful reading the Listing. I would have never Purchased an item from Hong Kong!.

I have since added Blocked Countries to my Seller Preferences anyway. I was not aware of this option also. I was told by eBay to Cancel the Transaction, but I see if the Buyer disagrees, i may not get my Final Sale Fees returned by eBay. Maybe i should have tried the Malicious Buy Route, due to the Buyer Bidding on an Item That said United States. But I don’t know if that was an option after the Sale is Made. Btw, eBay Chat saw that my item was United States, and informed me that I can cancel the item. But then the Buyer sent Funds, so I immediately sent a Cancel Notice and Refunded the Funds. I read that if the Buyer does not agree to cancelling the Sale, eBay closes the Case? I don’t know about that because of the Circumstances and Chat. i have the Session ID numbers as the Second chat was closed before I could Copy it.

The Bottom line is that I don’t know how Sellers deal with all of the Bullshit that is going on at eBay. I have only put up a few items for auction, and have had all these issues, and spent hours trying to resolve them. Sellers that sell 1000’s of items must have a lot more issues than I. How do they have the Time to Resolve All These Issues, regarding these Asshole SCAMMERS??????

I had this big plan for Chef for a Christmas present. Since Chef reads my blog, I must be vague her

I had this big plan for Chef for a Christmas present. Since Chef reads my blog, I must be vague here, but you’ll get my point.

I ordered this gift online from a pretty well-known company. If I revealed the company, Chef would get too big a hint. Plus, I don’t know if I want to say bad things about big companies on my blog. Maybe I will after Christmas when Chef already knows his gift and I’m not so much in the Christmas Spirit. Anyway, I actually spent a good deal of time this fall preparing the gift (something you can do at this company’s site), and I ordered it on November 19. I knew I would have it in plenty of time for Christmas.

But I waited and waited for it to come in the mail. After waiting nearly two weeks, I checked online to track it. I found the order had been canceled. I was mad. Seriously? I didn’t cancel this order! So on December 2, I sent a message to customer service asking what happened. The next day, I received a reply stating that a “temporary technical issue” resulted in the inability to fill my order at the time it was made and that my account would be credited. The representative said that I should place a new order. There was no apology and no other offer to resolve the issue.

Now I was really mad. Their computer glitch caused my order to be canceled. They didn’t tell me it was canceled, and they didn’t fix the problem. On top of that, they didn’t immediately credit my account even though the order wasn’t going to come.

I sent another email to customer service telling them that it was not acceptable that I was in no way notified that the order could not be processed and was therefore canceled. I told them there should have been an email sent to me indicating the problem and my account should have immediately been credited. This isn’t something a customer should have to ask for — if the goods aren’t sent, the bank account should not be charged. I let them know that I thought since I did not cancel the order, their company should have fixed the error and processed my order, rather than making me reorder something I never canceled, and notified me with their apologies that the order would arrive later than anticipated.

I told them I re-ordered the gift, but that I wanted a discount because their poor customer service makes me want to never order from them again and to tell all my friends never to order from them again. I said that reducing the charge on this order would do much to regain my confidence in their company.

The next day, I got an email back. It said, “Hello Karen, Thank you for contacting *** Customer Support. I’m extremly sory [sic] for the inconvenience caused for cancellation of your previous order. I’d be happy to apply RRBOOKS coupon to your order#500331016-04V. I’ve issued a refund of $24.94 to your credit card. I hope this will go some way in restoring your faith in our service. Please let me know if I can do anything else to assist you.“

A credit of $24.94 reduces the total cost of the gift almost by half. I’m perfectly satisfied with that. (And I’m really glad I didn’t ask for a specific discount. I probably would have asked only for about 20 percent off.)

So now I had a little more money freed up! I used that when I went shopping for my last few things for Stephan. Shopping around certainly helped me stretch my dollars, too. The store I finally found offered the items at about half the price of two other stores.

And as of Saturday, December 5, I am finished with all my Christmas shopping. Hooray!

This is a warning! Avoid Sleek Medspa Boston like it is the plague! I signed up for a laser hair removal package here for 6 treatments with a lifetime guarantee, was billed $1,600. I financed payments with the loan company that works with Sleek Medspa. This Sleek Medspa will try and dupe you the minute you walk in the door. This is what has happened to me: I went for 2 treatments, and at the 2nd appointment, found gel from the previous client smeared on the technicians table, and used towels bunched up on the corner of the floor. I had to ask the technician for a clean towel to wipe off the table before I was treated. I was very uncomfortable and will not go back to Sleek Medspa offices. This type of environment in a treatment office is unsanitary and unsafe. Additionally, at my first appointment, the technician missed several spots as she hastily moved the laser around. I complained to the manager, and she offered to rewrite the contract package to include more areas for the laser hair removal. She suggested I consider offering the remainder of services I paid for to a friend or family member. This company has messy, unsanitary offices, the service delivery of laser hair removal is highly questionable in its effectiveness, and this Sleek Medspa has junky equipment. The customer service at this Newbury St. “spa” is extremely bad, and it is clear that the employees are strictly looking to make a buck; they do not truly care about the individual customer. It is apparent to me that Sleek Medspa trains their employees to take the money from the each person who walks in the building. They really do not care about you as their customer. When I called to complain and asked to speak to a manager, and I was told she was on vacation, when I asked to speak with her supervisor, she was also on vacation the next week; these two weeks pushed me back even farther from the date I initiated business with the company. I went in person to their office to express my dissatisfaction with their services.
Here is what I am doing, and suggest to every person who is as deeply dissatisfied with the Boston Sleek Medspa to do the same:
File an official dispute, 2) mail a letter CERTIFIED THROUGH THE US POSTAL SERVICE of complaint and dispute (this is called a 30-Day Demand Letter), 3) Send a report of complaint to the Massachusetts Board of Health, 4) Report this to the Cosmetology Association of Massachusetts, 5) File a complaint with The Better Business Bureau, 6) File a dispute with the finance company, 7) I explained my situation to an attorney, who gave legal advice, I am prepared to take Sleek Medspa Boston to court and to defend my position.
My dispute is still current, and as of now, Sleek is processing a refund of one third (1/3) of the cost of the package. I had two treatments, that is one third (1/3) of the package I paid for with financing. The Sleek Medspa is charging me two thirds (2/3) of the package cost: this is the individual treatment rate ($500.00) per treatment all for the reason that I wish to end this laser hair removal package. This is so upsetting to me I had paid $500. back to the finance company already for the two lousy treatments, the second which made me so uncomfortable, and the remaining balance was $1,070.00. They want me to pay $500.00 more, for those two treatments I had. I cancelled the two appointments that I had scheduled in October and in November. Consider this, as no one should have to go through a situation like this: I had two laser hair removal treatments and pay $1,100.00 for the discomfort, unsanitary environment it was performed in, for the highly questionable, ineffective service, and the extremely bad customer service that Sleek Medspa responds with.
Posting ablog is one way I am trying to help prevent other potential customers at Sleek MedSpa Boston from experiencing what I am going through.

I guess most of the students have either been offered relocation, have enrolled themselves in new colleges or are just plain waiting on ACPET’s decision. It sure this taking a long time. They did say it was going to take a month. They’ve got another week to come up with something.

Regarding my question about whether it’s possible to negotiate one’s own transfer to a new school, ACPET pretty much tells you to get fucked if you can’t wait for their offer.

Here is the information regarding enrolling yourself in another college without ACPET’s assistance: Not all colleges are ACPET Members. If you decide to enrol yourself in another college without ACPETs assistance, you will disadvantage yourself in the following ways:

- ACPET cannot negotiate a credit-free tuition period for any money you may have lost as a result of your college closing.

- You may be waiving your rights under the Legislation to claim a refund from the ESOS Assurance Fund.

- The new college is entitled to charge full fees as per a normal student enrolment which means you may pay for the same qualification twice.

It is highly recommended that you wait for ACPETs relocation offer.

On returning from work today I found we’d received my Tesco’s credit card statement. As

On returning from work today I found we’d received my Tesco’s credit card statement. As we paid off the balance last month, it was with excited anticipation that I opened the envelope and eagerly scanned the pages for the new card balance of £0 that I was looking forward to seeing - only to be rather surprised to find Tesco claiming I had £1.12 left on my card.

Now, obviously, £1.12 is not a huge amount of money in anyone’s books, but it still makes me extremely cross. After all, if Tesco charge a thousand customers £1 extra on their bill, then Tesco makes an extra £1,000. As they say ‘every little helps’ and I’m not helping them make any more millions then they’re already getting. Rather than thinking ‘it’s only a small amount so I’ll just pay it and get shot of them’, these kind of things have the rather opposite effect of making me stubbornly dig my heels in like a mule and become obstructive and difficult.

So I set about phoning Tesco to enquire why I now owed them £1.12 when I had paid off my balance back on Oct 23rd (and it’s now Nov 24th). OK, so it probably cost me more in phone calls by the time I’d punched in a million number options and done all but sing the National Anthem to prove I am who I say I am, but it’s the point of the matter! I will not be one of the oppressed ripped-off financial masses anymore! So I pressed on through the options, and eventually got through to a human being, which is always a pleasant surprise. Probably not such a pleasant surprise for the poor girl on the other end of the line after I’d got started, but oh well.

I have to confess that I did understand what she was trying to say, which was that my interest is charged daily so I’d incurred some interest on the balance between my statement date and Oct 23rd, but I was undeterred in pretending I didn’t understand and stating my point of view, which is that I was using my online account at the time to pay the entire balance – and the £446.44 I paid is what their online system said was the entire balance I owed. Surely if I owed more interest, it should have stated that, as it’s pretty clear I was trying to pay off the entire balance – not leave myself with a £1.12 credit card bill that, if I wanted to close the card, I would have to pay off… wait a while for the payment to clear… ring back again and finally cancel it… by which point, maybe there’s another interest charge on it… ad infinitum.

Clearly it was late in the day (4.50pm) and she had soon had enough of my aggrieved waffling, so she agreed to refund me the charge, and I agreed to leave the poor girl alone (after taking her name and office address just in case her promise doesn’t materialise!). Which just goes to show you should always ask - and, in fairness, that Tesco have good customer service when pressed.

I’m usually a big fan of Nordstrom, but my recent transaction with the company has made me NEV

I’m usually a big fan of Nordstrom, but my recent transaction with the company has made me NEVER want to shop there again! Why you ask? Because it took six weeks, ten phone calls to customer service, three calls to UPS and a letter to Nordstrom’s corporate headquarters to get the coat I purchased!!

I don’t know about you, but I find that sort of service unacceptable. I ordered my coat on Sept. 20 and didn’t receive it until Oct. 30 , when I was told it would arrive in 5-8 business days!

So what went wrong? Apparently the coat left the Nordstrom’s warehouse via UPS. From there, UPS “tried” to deliver the package to my second-story apartment but couldn’t find my unit (out of an eight-unit building). Shocking, I know.

Seeing that the UPS carrier was too lazy to walk up a flight of stairs – that’s a story for another day – there was no package notice left to alert me that the coat was sent back to Nordstrom.

So, Nordstrom sent out ANOTHER coat and the cycle with UPS started all over again. But here’s the kicker…Nordstrom failed to inform me (the customer) of the status of my order. So in the meantime, I’m calling the company’s customer service and getting the runaround. On three occasions customer service promised me the package would arrive the next day and it never did. On two occasions they promised me a return phone call and never called back – infuriating!

Finally, four weeks after my purchase I got a UPS slip on my apartment door saying the package couldn’t be delivered. I called UPS and they said the package had been sent back to Nordstrom. So I called Nordstrom and they finally explained the troubles they were having with shipping and asked me for an alternative address to ship the coat (which they should have done weeks prior). I gave them my work address and the package still didn’t show up for another 10 days!

The most disturbing part of this whole story is that I probably would never have received my coat had I not been such a squeaky wheel. Also, I had asked for a refund for all the time I spent tracking down this coat (40 days) and Nordstrom wouldn’t give me one. If I were you, I’d think twice when ordering from this company. Unless you have the time to order you swimsuit in February so it’s there by June.

And let’s not let UPS off that easy. The icing on the cake is that I got a UPS delivery a week later to my second-story apartment. What’s that all about?! Do their carriers pick and choose the packages they want to deliver? If Nordstrom was smart it would switch to Fed-Ex.

In football, the saying, to the winner go the spoils couldn’t be more true. The minute a footballer scores a few goals, he is immediately put in the same league as the greats of the game. And God forbid, if he makes a mistake in the heat of the moment, all his past greatness is forgotten and he is immediately an overrated talentless footballer. The headlines in the past week have been dominated by two individual footballers, Thierry Henry and Jermaine Defoe. Thierry Henry had his moment and could have become a hero cherished by millions (minus the French) for eternity or he could have fallen from grace for millions. Unfortunately for Henry, in the heat of the moment he didn’t think selfishly enough and now he is being termed a cheat, a liar, a shame, a no-gooder, an unethical person and a villain of the worst kind, an overrated footballer who was never really good enough. It seems everyone is trying hard to forget the magic of Arsenal’s all-time leading goal scorer with 226 goals in all competitions, the two time winner of PFA Players’ Player of the Year and three time winner of the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year - Theirry Henry. Ironic, how almost all football journalists now seem to want to remember Henry only by the recent mistake that he made.

As is true of life, when a hero falls, a replacement is quickly sought. Jermaine Defoe’s 5 goals in the second half of the, 9-1 thriller between Tottenham Hotspur and Wigan Athletic couldn’t have come at a better time. Defoe’s horrible stamp on Aaron Mokoena in his return match against his old employers at Portsmouth which earned him a three match ban has been long forgotten and he is enjoying his sudden rise from a villain who manager Harry Rednapp had been absolutely livid with for the misdemeanor to a hero who manager Harry Rednapp is now busy hailing as the “best finisher” in the English game. His captain for the day, Jonathan Woodgate was even more generous with his praise saying, “I think he’s the sharpest striker not only in the Premier League but probably in the world. He’s that sharp he simply doesn’t miss, in training or in matches.”

The winner takes it all and I can’t begin to imagine what praise would have been directed the strikers way had he got a Premier League record sixth goal of the afternoon. On the other hand, Wigan Athletic players who suffered their worst result in club’s 31-year league history, making them the first English Premier League team to concede nine goals in a single match since Ipswich Town in 1995 have decided to refund the money to supporters who travelled to White Hart Lane on Sunday (November 22) to watch their team get so completely thrashed in the humiliating 9-1 loss. Jermaine Defoe’s 5 goals were added to by goals from Peter Crouch, Aaron Lennon, Niko Kranjcar and a painful Chris Kirkland own goal.

Wigan Athletic Captain Mario Melchiot said the players had “badly let down” their travelling supporter and will therefore provide a full refund of the match ticket price. ”This is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty,” the Latics captain added.

Also, possibly related to the shameful result, Wigan Athletic today postponed the planned official opening of their new club store in the town. A spokesperson said: “The club apologises for any inconvenience caused to its supporters but stresses that the event will go ahead in the very near future, as soon as a new date can be arranged.” In the beautiful game, the winner is entitled to it all and then some, while the loser waits for his time to shine, good thing that it doesn’t take much to be a winner, a couple of goals can get you there.

Jermaine Defoe became only the 3rd Premier League player after Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, to score 5 goals in game in Tottanham’s 9-1 thrashing of Wigan Athletic. Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp who not so long ago was livid at a Jermaine Defoe for a stamp on Aaron Mokoena in a match against his old club Portsmouth, which got the 27-year old Defoe a 3 match ban praised the striker, hailing him as the “best finisher” in the English game. Redknapp attributed Defoe’s great start to the season to a punishing gym routine. The England international is one of the leading scorers in the premier league having scored 11 goals. Redknapp said, “Jermain is an amazing finisher. He’s so sharp around the box, you give him half-a-chance and he makes a yard and bangs it in the back of the net. His hat-trick at Hull was incredible and he’s been doing that since he was 14. I took him at West Ham at 15 and he was a goalscoring machine.”

Tottenham’s captain for the day, Jonathan Woodgate was even more generous with his praise saying, ” I think he’s the sharpest striker not only in the Premier League but probably in the world. He’s that sharp he simply doesn’t miss, in training or in matches.”

The win was Tottenham’s best in 32 years with Peter Crouch, Aaron Lenon, Niko Kranjcar also finding the back of the net. Chris Kirkland own goal added to Wigans’s Athletics humiliating loss – it’s worst in it’s 31-year history. Roberto Martinez’s Wigan Athletic also become the first English Premier League team to concede nine goals in a single match since Ipswich Town in 1995 and the players have decided to refund their travelling supporters.

In a statement released by the embarrassed Latics players the club captain, Mario Melchiot, said: “We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty.”

“There is not a lot else to say, just that as a group of professionals we were embarrassed by the way we performed, we feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans. Now we have to draw a line under the game, focus completely on training this week and bounce back on Saturday. We are professionals, we will take it on the chin and move on but it’s important that we do not take our supporters for granted.”

Supporters can claim their money by contacting the ticket office at the DW Stadium before Friday December 4th.

Also, in a incident possibly relate to the humiliating loss, Wigan today postponed the planned official opening of their new club store in the town. A spokesperson said, “The club apologises for any inconvenience caused to its supporters but stresses that the event will go ahead in the very near future, as soon as a new date can be arranged.”

Ah, the joys of London Underground – our twice daily opportunity to gain intimate knowledge of

Ah, the joys of London Underground – our twice daily opportunity to gain intimate knowledge of a total strangers armpits in temperatures akin to re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere, and that’s when the drivers can be bothered to turn up…and all this for fares which increase above the rate of inflation year on year.

Today I even got to sample the delights of the Baker Street platforms for an extra twenty minutes as my train home was delayed that long for no apparent reason – of course this was irritating at first, but when the station staff had confirmed exactly how late the train was a small part of my almost-destoryed soul was brought back from the brink. At that point it was 15 minutes late – that magic number which nowhere near enough commuters seem to know about – magic because that’s the point that we get to travel for free!

It’s called the “Customer Charter” – any delay of 15 minutes or more which is not deemed as “beyond our control” by Transport for London (i.e. anything that doesn’t involve freak weather, terrorism, etc.) means you are eligible for a full refund for your journey. You can either collect a form from the station, fill it out and send it off – or complete a customer charter form on the TfL website. This really is a lot simpler than it sounds, people get scared off by the words “fill out a form” – it takes two, maybe three minutes and they send you a voucher with your refund which you can then get added as credit to your oyster card at any station.

You may think it’s not worth it, maybe you think the tube isn’t THAT expensive or these things don’t happen THAT often – but surely this is a MUCH better way to register a complaint than a normal letter? Just seeing the number of people that got off the train at my stop tonight, if every single one of them had claimed their fare back it would have been a nice little protest, let alone everyone else that was delayed across the network today. What better way to encourage TfL to improve their service than to hit them in the pocket?

So next time you’re stuck on a platform or even worse inbetween stations as the driver mumbles some information over the tannoy just keep an eye on your watch and get ready to claim your free travel…and if it’s only 14 minutes late make do us all a favour and stick your foot in the door for a few seconds the next time it closes!

So for all you out there who are parents or are new parents. Guess what Baby Einstein will not make your children smarter. And now Disney is offering a refund to those parents who assumed that those videos would make your child smarter. According to the New York Times this refund is a way for the Disney Company to address a class action lawsuit. OK is it just me or doesn’t this seem like the stupidest lawsuit in the world, worse than the lady who didn’t know her coffee would be hot. I mean come on, children’s DVDs are nothing more than electronic babysitters while parents do things like, i don’t know shower. I want to see the lawsuit against Barney or against Sesame Street, let’s take Blue and Steve or Joe to court. I mean there is no replacement for the parent child interaction, and if any parent thought a movie could do that, then i suggest they sue themselves for gross negligence of a child.
