Last night I listened to a conference call where Sam Caster one of the Founder’s of Mannatech fielded questions regarding Max International, their products, the opportunity, and DR Reg McDaniel’s endorsement.

If you are currently a Mannatech associate who is happy with their current experience, I respectfully ask you not to read the rest of this blog post. Mannatech is a good company run by good people.

I would first like to say that I have known Sam Caster personally for 14 years, genuinely like him, and have enjoyed his leadership over the years. I will also say that everything he shared on the call last night was true to the best of my knowledge. However by leaving out certain information the uninformed listener would be led to believe that things are much different than they really are. My biggest issue was with the inference that DR Reg’s opinion/endorsement was primarily fueled by economic incentive. I will address this issue last. If any of the information I share in this blog is inaccurate I am open to new light on the subject. I will publish all respectfully stated comments backed up by the facts.

First a little about myself. I began doing Mannatech in 1994 fresh out of college. I had spurts of success but it wasn’t until I got committed in about 2003 that I had good success and became a Presidential. I had decent skills, was very motivated, worked hard, AND was fortunate that the market I was working in was growing aggressively. Gross sales in the US for 2003 through 2008 are as follows: 127m, 192m, 259m, 271m, 244m, and 176m. So you can see there was a wave of growth that allowed me to succeed. Some of those years saw 50% growth. Personally I wouldn’t try and make money in MLM without at least 25% a year growth. Any MLM expert knows this. Whether they are telling you is another issue. Most of them however make their money in companies that no longer have decent growth. [Side note: I did stick with mannatech through some tough years until we hit our significant growth. Tough times are not always a reason to jump ship.]

Some of my memories and best friends in the world were made during Mannatech incentive trips. I had the opportunity to live the dream. I’ll always be thankful. During that time one of the key sales tools that was used was our companies growth curve. In fact at the time we educated prospects that one of the keys to success in MLM was to catch the wave. Currently no one in Mannatech is pointing to any growth curves. For more perspective on this please see my blog post: “Failed in MLM and think its your fault? Think again.”

After the call I was impressed with what a phenomenal communicator Sam is. Easily among the best I have ever heard. He does his job of rallying the troops well, and Mannatech never would have enjoyed success without him. I also realized that he left out a lot of important information. Before addressing his points let me say that I like Mannatech’s products and still take some of them. The key issue with MAX vs Mannatech for me is not who has better products. It is the ability to stop playing the role of clinician and health expert and start playing the role of network marketer. If you enjoy the role of clinician and health expert then Mannatech is an excellent company for you. Just realize that Mannatech pays you to be a network marketer not a health expert. In addition to being able to switch roles, it was feeling comfortable that the leadership of MAX had the ability, unity, and vision to take the company in the right direction. For more on this read the excellent ebook  “The MAX code.” I have heard many people say that the leadership in MAX is the best they have seen with any company in any industry. “The MAX Code” references a book called “Good to Great” by Jim Collins. In this book Jim talks about “A” companies who are able to keep the mission before profit. I have heard Sam reference this book, but in my opinion it is nearly impossible for a public company to keep mission ahead of profit. The founders of MAX agree and are committed as a team never to go public. Several of them experienced the heartache of what going public can do to a great company. Sam Caster is currently experiencing this himself. It was never Sam’s main desire to take Mannatech public, but he had partnered himself with men who were focused on the money they could make.

Sam Caster’s call was precipitated by Dr Reg McDaniel’s endorsement of MAX International seen in this  2 minute video.

Sam’s first thing he addressed was a claim by the MAX people that MAX GXL is a better antioxidant than Mannatech’s AO. That is like comparing an orange to spinach. Two totally different products. MAX GXL was not developed as an anti-oxidant it was developed to increase glutathione. It does that very well. There are a lot more serious issues but Sam answered the ones he had a good answer for. Before getting technical (Mannatecher’s favorite thing to do) let me say that I always loved explaining how great a product AO was. I NEVER sold it by itself and I never knew anyone else who did. Why? Because people didn’t feel enough of a difference when taking it. (Not entirely true. My sister felt great when she took 16 a day). Long term use were mostly (not completely) based on it being a good idea. I still give it to my 3 children. With GXL the majority of my customers feel great in a month or less, and the last three customers have felt a benefit on the first packet. The science geeks can argue all they want but as a network marketer GXL is clearly easier to market. Especially when the website does all the selling for me: www.stevenkeller.net

But let’s get back to what Sam said. He stated that GXL increases glutathione (he failed to mention that the double-blind placebo crossover study shows it increased 292% in 60 days). He did mention that Ambrotose prevents the depletion of glutathione (hereafter GSH) by 50%, which is one reason why it is in AO. So if I take Ambrotose (a good thing I agree), my GSH level’s won’t deplete as fast (another good thing). Not something however I will feel. With GXL my GSH level’s shoot up, definitely something people feel. A look at the scientific literature shows that any decent antioxidant gets results by increasing GSH. Which is why Dr Keller focused on developing a product to specifically increase GSH.

AO uses the “gold standard” of serum ORAC to show that this increases in people by 37%. GXL shows an increase in your bodies master antioxidant (blood work in real people) by 292%. Also in the same study GXL increases DHEA up 46%, IGF-1 (Human growth hormone marker) up 40%, and cellular inflammation down 60%. (4 things Sam knew but didn’t mention) As a lay person I can’t say which is the better antioxidant, but I thought it important to put all of the information on the table. As a marketer my opinion is that the product your customer feels better on is the easier one to market. [Side note: I really didn't understand how GXL could also increase/balance hormone levels until DR Reg explained to me that GSH regulates all cellular metabolism] From my novice point of view if something is a good antioxidant then it should reduce inflammation which is one of the primary functions of an antioxidant.

Sam Caster spent some time talking about how much recognition glyconutrients were getting in the scientific community. Having personally had customers walk who couldn’t walk and talk who couldn’t talk, I do not dispute the potential benefit of Ambrotose. Any Mannatecher would proudly tell you that they have the best science. Ask any of them if the product impacts the immune system the answer would be a resounding yes. Ask them statistically what bio-markers are impacted, by what percent, in what time period, and there will be absolute silence. There are no studies that show these results. There is one double blind study that shows a qualitative change in brain function. I personally am absolutely stumped by Mannatech’s inability to do a simple study that actually will show these numbers. No wonder DR Reg was amazed at the quality of studies that MAX (as a young company) has on their products. We can show exactly what changes, how much it changes, and in how long using a double blind placebo crossover study. I will say that DR Keller was unhappy with the academic quality of his own study and was looking forward to doing better studies before he passed away. Sam said that Ambrotose was the flagship product, and that the increasing validation of glyconutrients would bring a wave of business. If I didn’t know what Ambrotose was I certainly couldn’t figure it out from www.exploremannatech.com As one of my presidential friends commented: “Mannatech has become a Bounceback, Osolean company.” Why would they do that? Because people feel and see a difference.

The big issue that Sam had to address was why would DR Reg McDaniel endorse another company. He stated that Dr Reg had mounting legal bills and had done endorsement for multiple companies for money. He implied that this was the driving reason behind the endorsement. Nothing could be further from the truth, and it is this implied accusation that prompted me to write this article. . DR Reg had Steve Plogg twist his arm to try MAX GXL. He saw a quick and dramatic decrease in discomfort [had broken his back,neck, fallen off the roof, etc.] He also had a patient in New Zealand with a rare nasty condition with a long name get astounding results in 2 days after starting on MAX GXL. [George Reninger former presidential and former Mannarelief director started them on it]. It wasn’t until he had a chance to meet the owners and executives of MAX that he jumped on board. He feels that with MAX he is building his business on a rock. As Reg says in business the key is leadership leadership leadership. He is excited to build a business so that he can have influence with the “generals” in network marketing; who he feels can influence regulatory bodies to help us keep the freedom to take supplements.

Anyone who knows Dr Reg understands that he has NEVER allowed money to influence what he is doing in an unethical way. His secretary informed me this week that his CPA is telling him he needs to charge more for the  “Eden Formula” nutritional supplement he is selling based on his cost of goods. She said he refused because when he gets to heaven he doesn’t want to be known as the doctor who made a lot of money. he wants to be known as the Doctor who helped a lot of people. At one time he was making more money than any other doctor in the Southwest United States and gave it up to pursue his research in glyconutrients. There are many things DR Reg could do to make more money from his MAX business, but he refuses to do it. At the same time he has never been afraid to tell the truth even if it meant getting into a lot of trouble.

When Dr reg first started doing lectures for Mannatech his first lecture was on the placebo effect. His initial research on the functional ingredient in PLUS led him to believe that the only reason it was working was the placebo effect. So that’s what he lectured on. Not exactly the actions of a person who who takes truth and science lightly.

If I were to apply Sam’s reasoning of financial pressure motivating what people say and do, then I wonder what kind of pressure Sam Caster is under. He owns over 5 million shares in a company that he helped found and has poured his life into.

To quote the 2008 Mannatech Shareholder report: “A company can outperform rivals only if it can establish a difference it can preserve.” Currently Mannatech sales are down again and it lost $9 million dollars last quarter. How is that for pressure to do something to rally the troops.

This is the EVERYTHING Region of the Philippines!

Region 3 or Central Luzon just has everything for everyone from the kids to the serious businessmen; from the outdoor fanatics to history and culture buffs! It has everything from rural seaside towns to exclusive members-only resorts and everything from the illegal gambling operations to glittering modern casinos! To be able to completely roam and absorb everything that this region has to offer, a month or two may not even be enough!Composed of 7 provinces or about 12 cities and 118 towns, Central Luzon is one of only regions in the country that spans it shore-to-shore from east to west. I even call this vast place as the region from A to Z! The Brooklyn Paper has a short piece on Red Hook community arts organization DTE Falconworks and their upcoming piece, Off the Hook.  The shows are scheduled for November 20th and 21st at PS 15 here in Red Hook.

“Off the Hook” is a youth playwriting program with involvement from some of the same great students who participate in our programs at Dancee Theatre Etcetera.  Students get the opportunity to work with mentor/dramaturgs as they craft their pieces, and then see their visions realized in a full (though bare-bones) production of their plays.

I’m feeling overwhelmed.  I think there are a lot of people out there, who on a daily basis, feel overwhelmed either by family or work commitments, debt or money issues, perhaps by family issues.  For me right now, it’s the need to pass the next exam for my CPA certification.  This may seem trivial to some who are dealing with the loss of a loved one or who are trying to stay in their homes, but this is my reason for feeling short of breath and utterly out of control.

A brief history is that I am not a numbers person surprisingly.  I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations.  My goal graduating from college was to travel the world while promoting the latest and greatest products from Fortune 500 companies.   After graduating from college and realizing how hard it was to get my dream job (and how much I would have to sacrifice) I started to reevaluate how I really wanted to live my life.  I decided that making a ton of money and traveling to foreign lands wasn’t the pace for me.  I opted to move back to my hometown to be closer to my family (and where I met my husband).  This inevitably meant changing careers since there is not a lot of need (or money) in Public Relations in Hickstown.  I opted for accounting since I could take it with me anywhere in the world if I chose to move and I could always work for myself.  Because let’s face it, we’ve all worked for shitty bosses at one time or another.  And surprisingly for not being a numbers person I LOVE my job.  I think it’s because I’m slightly Type A.

So after taking just the minimum credits at the local university in order to qualify to take the CPA exam(s), here I am.  Stressing that I won’t pass this latest test.  I have already failed one (FAR) and retake it in January.  I passed BEC barely.  I took REG in early October, but don’t have my score yet.  I have AUD in two weeks.  Studying requires so much time and effort that to fail is just the most defeating feeling ever.  I’m tired.  And cranky.   My remedy for this is to think of the positive things in my life – my incredibly supportive family, my current workplace that gives me time off to study when I need it, and Fat Tire’s 2 Below Ale.  Thank God for beer.  I’m sure it totally helps my waistline too…

Sistema de reg per goteig

En el nostre llibre de referència recomanar fer servir tub exudant per el sistema de reg. El tub exudant és una mena de tub porós que té la ventatja de regar de manera molt uniforme. El gran inconvenient del tub exudant és el seu preu. Per minimitzar despeses nosaltres muntarem un sistema de reg mitjançant tub de goteig.

El material

De material necessitarem:

- 100 m de tub de goteig (3/8)

Nota:Podeu aconseguir tub de goteig amb el goteig ja posat o comprar goters i posar’ls a uns 20cm de distància.

- 8 vàlvules de pas (3/8)

- 8 taps (3/8)

- 16 colzes (3/8)

- 15m de tub (3/4)

- 2 colzes (3/4)

- 1 tap (3/4)

- 8 connexions de 3/4 a 3/8

- 2 carrets de “Teflon”

- Fil-ferro

Les Eines

Les eines que necessitarem seran:

- Una clau fixe (calibre segons el sistema de connexió 3/4 a 3/8 que fasseu servir)

- Un encenedor

- Un Cutter

- Alicates

Muntar el reg

El que més ens costarà seran posar les connexions de tub de 3/4 a tub de 3/8. El sistema que hem fet servir nosaltres consisteix en dues peces que s’apreten a pressió contra el tub de 3/4. Una de les peces té un forat amb una rosca en la qual se posa un adaptador per empalmar el tub de 3/8. És una peça clau, ja que si no ho feim bé tindrem pèrdues d’aigua.

Així doncs el que farem serà col·locar el tub de 3/4 allà a on anirà i el fixarem amb pedres o amb el fil-ferro. Si el tub té guies, feu-les servir perque us ajudaran a mantenir una línea recta.

Per fer les connexións farem una marca a sobre de la guia a uns 4 dits de l’estaca del carril de la parada. Amb una peça metàlica cilíndrica calenta, farem un forat d’uns 5 mm de diàmetre. Farem conicidir el forat que hem fet amb el forat de la peça que hi va a sobre i apretarem ben fort. En la imatge podem veure unes quantes connexions ja instal·lades per a que us fasseu una idea de com ha de quedar.

El següent pas és tallar tots els troços de tub. Com nosaltres farem servir tub amb el goters integrats ens convé tallar tots els troços de tub d’una vegada per així poder fer un bon càlcul, ja que molt aprop dels goters no podem empalmar per fer les connexions o els colzes. També hem de pensar en com han de quedar col·locats els goters per a que l’aigua es reparteixi el millor possible. Per a que vos serveixi d’orientació per a cada carril de cada parada necessitarem dos troços d’uns 5,7 m i un d’uns 40 cm, que formaran un rectàngle obert per un dels costats petits.

Veurem que cada troçs ens sortirà únic per a cada situació, així que els haurem de posar en ordre per així, quan els haguem d’empalmar no ens equivoquem.

Quan ja tenim tots els troços mesurats i tallats és el moment de fer les connexions amb el tub de 3/4. Per a cada connexió, en total 8 (dues per parada), necessitarem una connexió per empalmar, un trocet de tub de 3/8 d’uns 10cm i una vàlvula.

Primer de tot enroscarem la peça de connexió ben fort. Aquí haurem de posar bastant de teflon per assegurar-nos de que no perdi. És un punt en el que si no ho feim bé tindrem pèrdues segur; així que posau força teflon i apreteu bé la rosca.

Així que ja tenim la connexió posada empalmarem el troçet de tub. Per connectar el tub ho haurem de fer a presió, si el tub se’ns resisteix agafeu un enecenedor i escalfeu un poc el tub, sense arribar a cremar-ho, i veureu que entra fàcilment. Repetirem el mateix procediment per connectar la vàlvula i la resta del tub.

Per posar la resta no és gens dificil, només hem de connectar dos colzes cada extrem dels tub llargs de 5,7m i aquets al tub petit de 40 cm. En l’extrem del tub llarg que queda sense connectar enlloc hi posarem un tap.

Connectar un programador

En el nostre cas no podem estar pendents d’anar cada dia a obrir la clau de pas el temps necessari per regar, així que hem decidit posar un programdor. És el més recomanable, perquè en segons quines èpoques de l’any oblidar-se de regar dos dies pot significar la pèrdua de tota la collita.

Nosaltres hem comprat un programador senzill, que ens permet programar un temps determinat cada tantes hores. A la imatge podeu veure que no té cap misteri connectar-ho, només s’ha de recargolar a la toma d’aigua i connectar-ho al tub de 3/4.

No hem pogut explicar més detalladament com ho hem fet ja que cada sistema que trieu és un món i segurament, si ho voleu fer a casa, us trovareu amb altres problemes i maneres de fer. El millor que podeu fer és consultar a la botiga on compreu el material i que algú que ja ha muntat alguna vegada un sistema semblant us vengui a ajudar.

HAVE AN EMPLOYEE MANUAL (DRAFTED BY COUNSEL NOT A SOFTWARE PROGRAM):   You need to face privacy issues with e-communications and certainly set up a sexual harassment policy under the law.  You may also, for example, want to explore using a formal disciplinary procedure but if it is not done right you’ll open the company up to a jury trial for wrongful termination.  This document is complex and should be drafted by your counsel, with the goal of making it as short and as clear as possible.

Un grand titre choquant paru aujourd’hui sur plusieurs quotidiens local. Sur MALAZA : « FAMADIHANA SOUS HAUTE TENSION : INTERVENTION DES FORCE DE L’ORDRE », et sur GAZETIKO : « NITONDRANA EMMO-REG NY FANOKAFANA ILAY FASANA » (Ouverture d’un tombeau escortée par l’EMMO-REG).

Dans ce conflit où il y a, d’une part, la famille du défunt qui veut emporter la dépouille de son proche afin de la transférer vers un autre tombeau, et d’autre part, la famille propriétaire du tombeau dans lequel la dépouille est actuellement enterrée et qui n’accepte pas qu’on ouvre le tombeau du fait qu’aucun rituel n’a été accompli. C’est là que la première fait appel à l’EMMO-REG et un huissier de justice par l’intermédiaire de l’un de membre de la famille qui est un pénitencier. L’intervention des éléments de l’EMMO-REG, armées jusqu’aux dents, fait fuir les membres de la famille propriétaire du tombeau qui voulaient s’opposer.

Cependant, la famille du défunt, les éléments de l’EMMO-REG, et ni même l’huissier de justice n’a aucun mandat ni de quelconque autorisation de la part du tribunal, mais qui ont procéder de force à l’ouverture du tombeau alors que la famille propriétaire n’accepte pas. Le président du FOKONTANY d’Ambohimiadana Ambohimanarina, ou l’événement s’est produit, précise aussi par écrit qu’il n’a pas donnée l’autorisation d’ouvrir le tombeau.

En posant une question à l’Adjudant Chef qui commande les éléments de l’EMMO-REG présent sur le lieu :

« Avez-vous un mandat ou un ordre de mission qui vous autorise cette violation ?»

L’Adjudant Chef à répondu :

« Nous n’avons riens à avoir dans cette affaire. Vous devez demander à la famille du défunt. »

Et en posant la même question à la famille du défunt qui n’a pas voulu répondre et a donner la parole à l’huissier de justice, l’huissier de justice à répondu :

« Je ne fais que regarder ce qui se passe ici. »

On a voulu insister en posant une autre question :

« Savez vous que ce que vous faites est une violation de propriété privée puisque la famille propriétaire du tombeau n’accepte pas et que vous n’avez même pas de mandat ? »

L’huissier de justice à répondu :

« Non, ce n’est pas mois…, je vous répète que je ne fais que regarder ! »

L’EMMO-REG est actuellement commandé par le Colonel Richard Ravalomanana. Lui qui ne cesse de répéter dans les médias que toutes ces interventions sont légales, vient de commettre une infraction et qui constitue une violation de la loi portant sur la violation de propriété privée.

Nowadays, romantic hero names like Tristan and Orlando are all but mainstream for boys.  Even Romeo is on the rise.  So how ’bout this parfait gentil knight?

The most famous Reginald was, indeed, a chivalrous knight of old.

Also recorded as Raynald, Reynaud, Renaud, Reynold and Renald, Reginald of Chastillon lived in the 1100s.  Part of the Second Crusade to the Holy Land, Reginald managed to rule briefly as Prince of Antioch and later as Lord of Oultrejordain.  Both of his titles were held through marriage – the first to Constance of Antioch, the second to Etienette of Milly.  By all accounts, Reginald was quite the adventurer – leading to seventeen years in a Turkish prison.

While Reginald was no John or William, plenty of men wore the name in Norman England.  Germanic in origin, he comes from the elements ragin – advice and wald – ruler.  The Normans brought French variants with them; Old Norse versions like Rognavaldr were already in use.

The same elements also led to Ronald.   In the 1950s and 60s, twin brothers Reginald and Ronald Kray hobknobbed with Sinatra in their London nightclubs.  Behind the scenes, they were criminal masterminds who eventually ended their days in prison.

There’s also the tenth century Saint Reinold – again, spellings abound, and he was Latinized as Reginaldus.  He may’ve been descended from Charlemagne himself – at least that’s what translator and publisher William Caxton suggested in the fifteenth century.

Some of the most notable Reginalds are best known by another name:

Reginald has a decidedly athletic tone, thanks to the legions of NFL, NBA and MLB players who have answered to Reggie.

There’s Mr. October – baseball hall-of-famer Reggie Jackson.  With the Oakland A’s, he helped win three World Series before joining the New York Yankees to score two more.  And let’s not forget the Minister of Defense, NFL hall-of-famer Reggie White, celebrated defensive end and an ordained minister.

Despite Reginald’s medieval vibe, he actually peaked in 1968, well before White and Jackson achieved renown.  It’s tough to find an explanation for why Reginald reached #118 that year, but call him a classic anyhow – Reginald has appeared in the US Top 1000 since 1880.

Today he stands at #557, possibly maintaining his place in part thanks to all those proud papas eager to hand down their name.  And therein lies Reginald’s problem.  Instead of a daring rediscovery a la Orlando, Reginald feels a little bit like naming your kiddo Jeffrey or Scott.  Nothing wrong with the name.  But you’ve probably met a Reg, and he’s probably thirty, forty or more.

But if you’re a decade or more away from christening your firstborn?  Reginald could be just the classic to keep in mind.
