This is the long awaited cover for VIBE’s big relaunch after they folded earlier this year. However I’m not really feeling it to be honest, I dont know what it is possibly the retouching but I feel like Chris’s face doesnt look entirely relaxed, this could be because he supposedly asking the question “R U Still Down” but compared to the preview which I showed you guys in early november I think that would have been a much better shot. Saying that it’s not a bad cover, just I’ve seen better from him and I have no doubt that he took better shots than the one they picked.

You have to give the audience what they expect from the brand – what they love, loathe, or fear. But you have to put a new spin on it, to re-engage their interest. And hopefully, pave the way for the new-old franchise to continue.

Not everyone succeeds in this.

I’m sure you can think of numerous examples (right, kids?) where your primary reaction is: “Why did they bother? The original was fine. Much better than this crap, anyway.”

Occasionally, though, someone gets it right.

Director J J Abrams, and the team that gave us “Star Trek,” for example.

I saw the film on DVD recently, and I’m currently picking my way through Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman’s screenplay (diligent screenwriter / eternal student that I am).

It’s all there. The cast of characters we know and love. The technology. The backdrop.

Same.

But it’s not played out exactly the way we remember.

Different.

They’ve achieved this by staying within the conventions of the science fiction genre: An alternate reality, where the same people exist, but their life situations have been altered.

And they’ve assembled a group of actors who are instantly recognizable as the people they’re supposed to be, in appearance and mannerisms. But there are no 1960s beehive hairdos in evidence. Modern-day vernacular. And inter-personal relationships that provide more than enough mileage for Star Trek 2, 3 and 4 (Or however many they choose to make). Where, presumably, we may get to see Klingons, the conman Harry Mudd, and those pesky Tribbles – in different circumstances, of course.

It works. It’s got a good beat, and you can dance to it.

Even if you’re not a devotee of the franchise, the film stands scrutiny as a good entertainment, in its own right.

Victoria Beckham Denim

Victoria is giving her almost vanished denim label a rebirth. Formerly knwown as dVb, it will now simly be called Victoria Beckham Denim.

The jeans were given a high-end makeover, and are sharper and sleeker than the original dVb’s. Not to forget the super slouchy boyfriend jeans, that probably gave her back the ‘denim-credibility’. In the range there are also sixties sweet pastel cigarette pants with contrasting inserts. She even goes beyond jeans with a range of leggings in bright colours.

If one would ask Victoria how to wear the jeans from her refreshed label, she’ll probably answer you this: ‘With towering heels ofcourse!’

Seeing that the craziness of first year and camping has simmered from the roaring boil it used to be, they’ll be less chronicling our epic university days. ಝಗಮಗಿಸುವ ಬೆಳಕು. ಹೈ ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯ ನೂರೆಂಟು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತರು ರಾಂಪ್ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿದೆ. ಇನ್ನೇನು ಹೊಸ ಫ್ಯಾಶನ್ ಲೋಕವನ್ನೇ ಅನಾವರಣ ಮಾಡುವ ಲಲನೆಯರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದೆ ಕ್ಯಾಟ್ ವಾಕ್ ಮಾಡಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದೋ ಬಂದೇಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಹೊಸ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಅನಾವರಣ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರೇ - ದಿ ಹಿಂದೂ, ಹಿಂದುಸ್ತಾನ್ ಟೈಮ್ಸ್, ಡೆಕ್ಕನ್ ಹೆರಾಲ್ಡ್, ಸಕಾಳ್ ಟೈಮ್ಸ್…

ಒಂದೇ ಏಟಿಗೆ ಫ್ಯಾಶನ್ ಲೋಕವನ್ನೇ ಬದಲು ಮಾಡಿಬಿಡಬಲ್ಲ ಸಂದೀಪ್ ಖೋಲ್ಸಾ, ರಿತು ಭೇರಿ, ತರುಣ್ ತಹಿಲಾನಿ, ರೋಹಿತ್ ಬಾಲ್ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ನಿಬ್ಬೆರಗಾಗಿ ಬಿಡಬೇಕು ಹಾಗೆ ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳೂ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಕಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ದನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೌನ್ಸ್ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ- ನೌ ವಿ ಪ್ರೆಸೆಂಟ್ ದಿ ಗ್ರೇಟ್ ಡಿಸೈನರ್ಸ್ ಮಾರಿಯೋ ಗಾರ್ಸಿಯಾ, ಪಾಮರ್ ವ್ಯಾಟ್ಸನ್..  125 ವರ್ಷದ ಹಿಂದೂ, 85 ವರ್ಷದ ಹಿಂದುಸ್ತಾನ್ ಟೈಮ್ಸ್, 50 ದಾಟಿದ ಡೆಕ್ಕನ್ ಹೆರಾಲ್ಡ್ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಒಂದೇ ಸ್ಪರ್ಶದಲ್ಲಿ ತರುಣಿಯರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬದಲು ಮಾಡಿ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದು ಈ ಮಾರಿಯೋ ಗಾರ್ಸಿಯಾ ಹಾಗೂ ಪಾಮರ್ ವ್ಯಾಟ್ಸನ್. ‘ಕಲೀತ್ತ ಹುಡುಗಿ, ಕುದುರೀ ನಡಿಗಿ, ನಡಿಯುತ ಹೊಂಟಿತ್ತ..ಅದನ ಕಂಡು ನಮ್ಮ ಊರ ಮಂದಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅವಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬಿತ್ತಾ..’ ಅಂತ ಗುರುರಾಜ ಹೊಸಕೋಟಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ದನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ನಮ್ಮಂತ ಪಡ್ಡೆ ಹಿಂಡಿಗೆ ರೋಮಾಂಚನ. ಫಳ ಫಳ ಕಣ್ಣಿನ ಜೂಹಿ ಚಾವ್ಲಾ ‘ಈ ನಿಂಬೆ ಹಣ್ಣಿನಂತ ಹುಡುಗಿ ಬಂದ್ಲು ನೋಡೋ…ಅಂತ ‘ಹಂಸಲೇಖಾ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ’ಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗಲೂ ಹೀಗೇ ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ಹಾಡು, ಸಿನೆಮಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಿ ಹೋದ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಚೇಂಜ್ ಈಗ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ. ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕೆ ‘ಕುದುರಿ ನಡಿಗಿ, ನಿಂಬೆ ಹುಡುಗಿ’ಯ ಸ್ಪರ್ಶ.

‘ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಓದುಗರು ಅವಸರದ ಕುದುರೆಯೇರಿರುವ ಓದುಗರು. ಅವರನ್ನ ಹಿಡಿದಿಡಲು, ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು ನೀಡಲು ಹೊರಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ’ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿದ್ದು ಮಾರಿಯೋ ಗಾರ್ಸಿಯಾ. ಆತ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಇಷ್ಟೇ- ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಓದುಗ ಬದಲಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಓದುಗ ಬದಲಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂತ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು ‘ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ’. ಹಾಗೆ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿನ ‘ಯಂಗ್’ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯೇ, ಈಗ ತಾನೇ ಹತ್ತನೆಯ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಟೈಮ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಈ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕೈಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡ ನಾಲ್ಕೇ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನ ಗುಟ್ಟೇನು? ಅಂತ ಕಣ್ಣು ಬಾಯಿ ಬಿಡುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ. ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ಬೀಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಗಾಳಿಯ ಪರಿಚಯವಿದೆ. ಅಥವಾ ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಅಲೆ ಯಾವಾಗ ಏಳುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಿದೆ. ಅಥವಾ ಓದುಗ ಬದಲಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಗೊತ್ತು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಟೆಲಿವಿಶನ್ ಬಂದ ನಂತರ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳ ಮುಖವೇ ಸಪ್ಪಗಾಗಿ ಹೋಗಿತ್ತು. ಟೆಲಿವಿಶನ್ ಚಾನಲ್ ಗಳು ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟ ಮೇಲಂತೂ ಅದರ ಚಮಕ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಅಬ್ಬರದ ನಡುವೆ ಬಣ್ಣವನ್ನೇ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡಿತ್ತು. ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಎಂಬುದು ನಿನ್ನೆಯ ಚರಿತ್ರೆ ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ಹೌದಲ್ಲಾ! ಅಂತ ಇನ್ನೂ ಕಣ್ಣು ಪಿಳುಕಿಸಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗಲೇ ಈಗಿನ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಈಗಲೇ ಎನ್ನುವ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ನಿಂತುಬಿಟ್ಟವು.

ಆಗ ಮೊದಲು ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು ‘ಟೈಮ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ’. ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮದ ಗ್ರಾಮರ್ ಬದಲಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಕಾಲ ಇದು ಎಂದು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಿ ಹೋಯಿತು. ಓದುಗ ಈ ಮೊದಲಿನಂತಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದೂ ಅರಿವಾಯಿತು. ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಇನ್ನೂ ‘ಟಿ ವಿ ಬಂದರೆ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯೇನು ಮುಳುಗಿ ಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ’ ಅಂತ ಚರ್ಚಾಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಜು ಕುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗಲೇ  ‘ಟೈಮ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ’ ನಾನು ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗೆ ಸಿದ್ಧ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿತು. ಈಗಿನ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ಈಗಲೇ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವವರ ಮುಂದೆ ಬರೀ ಸುದ್ದಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ ಕುಳಿತರೆ ಉಳಿಗಾಲವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಯಿತು. ತಾನೇ ಕೈಯಾರೆ ಮನರಂಜನೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಪುಟದೊಳಕ್ಕೆ ಕೂಡಿಸಿತು. ಆಗಲೇ ಮಿಸಳಬಾಜಿ ಆದದ್ದು. ಸುದ್ದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮನರಂಜನೆ ಎರಡೂ ಕೈಕುಲುಕಿದವು. Infotainment ಅನ್ನೋ ಹೊಸ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೋಯ್ತು. ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರು ಹೇಳಿದ್ರು ಇದೊಂಥರಾ  ಮಸಾಲೆ ದೋಸೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಬರ್ಗರ್ ಮಿಕ್ಸ್ ಮಾಡಿದ ಹಾಗಿದೆ ಅಂತ. ಕೆ ಎಫ್ ಸಿ ನೋಡಿ. ಯಾವಾಗ ತನ್ನ ಸಪ್ಪೆ ಕೋಳಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರ್ ನವರ ನಾಲಿಗೆ ಮೇಲೇ ಕುಣಿಯೋಲ್ಲ ಅಂತ ಗೊತ್ತಾಯ್ತೋ ಮಸಾಲೆ, ಉಪ್ಪು ಒಂದು ಚಿಟಿಕೆ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಹಾಕಿರೋ Hot wings ವೆರೈಟಿಯನ್ನ ಇಂಟ್ರಡ್ಯೂಸ್  ಮಾಡ್ತು. ಮೆಕ್ದೊನಾಲ್ದ್ ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ ಮಡಿವಂತಿಕೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ತನ್ನ ಬರ್ಗರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಲೂಗಡ್ಡೆ ವೆರೈಟಿ ಶುರು ಮಾಡ್ತು. ಹಾಗಿರೋವಾಗ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನ ಟಿ ವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಾಗ್ಲೇ ನೋಡಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಕೂತಿರೋರಿಗೆ ಹೊಸದೇನನ್ನೋ ನೀಡದೆ ಹೋದ್ರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಅಂಗಡಿ ನೋಡ್ಕೊಳ್ತಾರೆ ಅನ್ನೋದು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾಯ್ತ.

ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ‘ಟ್ರೆಂಡ್ ಸೆಟ್ಟರ್’. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುಮಾನವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮ ಅಪ್ಪ ಹಾಕಿದ ಆಲದ ಮರಕ್ಕೆ ನೇತು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡೆ ಇದ್ರೆ ಆಗಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನೋದನ್ನ ತೋರಿಸ್ಕೊಡ್ತು. ಹಾಗಾಗೀನೆ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ, ಹೊಸ ದಿಗಂತ ಸಹಾ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನ ರಿಲಾಂಚ್ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗಿ ಬಂತು. ಪ್ರಜಾವಾಣಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ದಾರಿ ಹಿಡೀಬೇಕು ಅನ್ನೋದೇ ಕನ್ಫ್ಯೂಸ್ ಆಗುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡಿಬಿಡ್ತು. ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕವನ್ನ ವಿಮರ್ಶಿಸಬಹುದು. ಬೇಕಾದಷ್ಟು ಹೊಗಳಬಹುದು. ಸುದ್ದಿ ರೀತೀನೆ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಹೋಯ್ತು ಅಂತ ಗೊಣಗಬಹುದು. ಆದ್ರೆ ನೆಗ್ಲೆಕ್ಟ್ ಮಾಡೋದಿಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನೋದನ್ನ ಸಾಬೀತು ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಹೊಸ ರೀತಿಯ ಹೆಡ್ ಲೈನ್ ಜಾರಿಗೆ ತಂದಾಗ ನನಗೂ ಇರಿಸು ಮುರಿಸಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಬ್ಯೂಟಿಫುಲ್ ಹೆಡ್ಲೈನ್ ಅನ್ಸುತ್ತೆ ಆದ್ರೆ ವಿಷಯದ ಸೀರಿಯಸ್ ನೆಸ್ಸೇ ಹೋಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತಲ್ಲಾ ಅಂತ. ಆದ್ರೆ ಇವತ್ತು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆ ಹೇಳ್ತಾ ಇದೆ ಸೀರಿಯಸ್ ರೀಡರ್ ಅನ್ನೋನು ಕಾಣೆ ಆಗ್ತಾ ಇದಾನೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಬದಲಾದ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಕನೆಕ್ಟ್ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಅಂತ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಿದ್ದು ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ. ಬರೀ ಹೆಡ್ಲೈನ್ ಬದಲಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಫೋಟೋ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸೋ ರೀತಿ ಬದಲಾಯ್ತು. ಸುದ್ದಿ ಬರಿಯೋ ಶೈಲಿ ಬದಲಾಯ್ತು. ಪದ ಪ್ರಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಆಯ್ತು. ವಿನ್ಯಾಸ ಬದಲಾಯ್ತು. ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಪೇಪರ್ ಸೈಜೂ ಬದಲಾಯ್ತು.

ಕನೆಕ್ಟ್ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳೋದು ಸುಲಭದ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲ. ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ತನ್ನನ್ನ ಓದುವವರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಡ್ರೆಸ್ ಮಾಡ್ತೀನಿ ಅಂತ ಹೊರಟರೆ ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮದ ಅರ್ಥ ಏನು ಅನ್ನೋ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಮುಂದೆ ಬರುತ್ತೆ. ಮೊದಲು ಕೊಳ್ಳೋದಿಕ್ಕೆ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಇರೋವರಿಗೆ ಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗದವರ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನ ಹೇಳ್ತಾ ಇದ್ವಿ. ಆದ್ರೆ ಈಗ ಜಾಗತೀಕರಣ ಒತ್ತಡ ಹೇರ್ತಿದೆ. ಮಾರ್ಕೆಟ್ ಕಡೆ ಮುಖ ಮಾಡಿ ನಿಲ್ಲು ಅಂತ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಇವತ್ತು ಟ್ರೆಂಡಿ ಅನ್ನಿಸೋ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಯಾವ ಸುದ್ದಿಗಳ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದು ಕೂತಿದೆ ಅನ್ನೋದು ಮುಖ್ಯ. ಹಿಂದೂ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಕಂಟೆಂಟ್, ಟೈಮ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಪ್ರೆಸೆನ್ಟೇಶನ್ ಎರಡೂ ಸೇರೋ ಕಾಲ ಬರಬೇಕು. ಈಗ ಎರಡೂ ಭಿನ್ನ ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ‘ರೈತರ ಸಾವಿನ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಯಾರೂ ಓದಲ್ಲ ಅಂತ ನೀವೇನಾದರೂ ಸರ್ವೇ ಮಾಡಿಸಿದ್ದೀರಾ?’  ಅಂತ ಪಿ ಸಾಯಿನಾಥ್ ಸಂಪಾದಕರೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಕೇಳಿದರಂತೆ. ಇವತ್ತು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ದಿ ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮದ ಬೈಬಲ್ ಅನ್ನೋ ಪಿ ಸಾಯಿನಾಥ್ ಅವರ everybody loves a good drought ನ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ಮೊದಲು ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಕಟ ಆಗಿದ್ದು ಟೈಮ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನ್ನೋದನ್ನ ಮರೀಬಾರದು. ಈ ಎಚ್ಚರದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮಾಡುವ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸ ಇದ್ದ ಓದುಗರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಓದುಗರನ್ನೂ ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತೆ.

The clothing company that Uncle L made famous is making a comeback this spring. Fubu co-founders Keith Perrin and Daymond John will be relaunching the brand in hopes to introducing it a new generation.

“Kids have a three-year memory span, so most don’t have a sense of the brand’s roots,” John said. “I think FUBU to the kids is kind of an American brand.”

It isn’t clear on when and where the new appareal will hit the shelves. But we can expect a more classic line this time around.

R&B Popstar Chris Brown will be the first star to grace the cover of the newly revived VIBE Magazine. The magazine founded by Quincy Jones in 1993 folded in June this year, but has recently been bought by InterMedia Partners who have decided to resurrect the Hip-Hop publication and cut the frequency to 4 over 2010. The magazine once had a readership of 800′000 a month.

The new VIBE issue is due out on December 8th, be sure to get yours.

You do realize that my life is complete once more, right? It’s been my dream to work at Vibe ever since I thought to go into music journalism, and Danyel Smith [former editor-in-chief] is meant to be my boss. This is the biggest motivational tool I could possibly have to finish school. This is the only magazine I want to work for and now there’s a chance with this relaunch, that I will someday. My excitement is through the roof right now.

In meinen bisherigen Blogeinträgen nach anscheinend längerer Pause habe ich immer wieder beteuert, wie sehr mir doch das Projekt “POLILOG” am Herzen liegt. Das ist nun nicht mehr so.

In den letzten Tagen habe ich sogar mehrfach überlegt, den Blog zu schließen, und meine Meinung unter einer neuen URL zu veröffentlichen. Ich wollte einen Blog rein zu Web 2.0- und Technik-Themen machen, vor allem, weil ich mich dann auch wirklich mit allen neuen Dingen in dieser Welt auseinandersetzen müsste. Und einen Blog für Politik und Gesellschaft (und Medien).

In letzter Zeit verfiel ich immer mehr meiner Rolle des Gutmenschen. Okay, ich habe nie versucht, objektiv zu sein (die ersten zwei, drei Wochen von POLILOG vergessen wir mal), aber zuletzt war ich entweder sehr aufgebracht und/oder gefühlsüberladen. Mir gefallen die Einträge, heute gelesen, nur mehr sehr selten. Was mir aber heute noch gefällt sind die politik-, gesellschafts-,  Web 2.0- und medientheoretischen Einträge. Die gab es zwar nicht in so großer Anzahl, aber in meist gelungener Ausführung.

Vielleicht spezialisiere ich mich darauf. Mir würde das gefallen. Es würde zwar dann auch keine täglichen Blogposts regnen, aber die Wenigen (2-4 Mal pro Monat) würden dann wenigstens meinen Qualitätsansprüchen (und hoffentlich auch Euren) genügen.

In der letzten Zeit isses hier sehr ruhig geworden. Das liegt zum einen daran, dass ich mit dem Relaunch von kids-hotline sehr eingespannt war und danach hat mich diese fiese Krankheit angefallen. Dank Antibiotika und wochenlanger Bettruhe bin ich wieder am aufsteigenden Ast – aber: ich werd noch langsam machen, daher heute auch kein inhaltlich gehaltvoller Post.

Zum anderen bin ich dabei mich selbst zu relaunchen – was mag das wohl heißen? Dieser Relaunch wird nötig durch einen dummen Sturz vor ein paar Wochen, bei dem eines meiner Markenzeichen, die schöne Brille, böse gedammaged wurde… die Gläser sind schon seit einer Weile verkratzt, allerdings wollte ich mich vom Gestell eigentlich nicht trennen, nun ist es wohl so.

Die kleine Platzwunde darunter sieht man gott sei dank nicht und mittlerweile ist sie gut verheilt.

Ich denke also an ein neues Gestell, eine andere Hausfarbe (im Herbst/Winter ändern ja auch Bäume ihre Farbe) und dank der Relaunch-Arbeits-Krankheitsdiät an die eine oder andere neue Klamotte.

Fachlich präzise gesprochen ist das erst ein ReDesign und noch kein Relaunch – aber auch innerlich fühl ich mich next level, ich hab die letzten Monate viel gelernt und jetzt in der Zeit der Bettlägrigkeit verarbeiten und integrieren können.
