Released 31st August 2009. Rise To The Bait is the follow up release from the debut album In Brutal Shudders. Here is a nice review from an itunes listener:

‘It is clear to hear how Microburst has progressed with his style from the previous album. The tracks are more upfront and technically crafted. The title track sticks to his trademark organic sound, Featuring live drums and an ambiguous vocal that appears now and again through the wash of synth lines and bass. ‘Helmholtz’ is a more uplifting track with an acid synth line that would fit on any Luke Vibert or Clark tune. ‘Rumble Toes’ is a very progressive and more experimental track with a strong dubstep influence which makes way perfectly for ‘Whelven’; a track with a strong 2-step feel and kicking bassline, a crowd pleaser that will win many new fans. The E.P finishes beautifully with a guitar track that is different from all the other tracks but seems to ice the E.P perfectly after the barrage of beats. A must buy!

Well, we lost a very talented translator and very dear friend, but the show must go on. I have a few completed scripts left before we’ll need the help of another translator, so translators please offer your services. For the record, SystematicChaos has offered to help later on, but he’s already super busy and swamped with his own projects and translations as is. This was noticed by Andy Whitby, who asked the guys to remix his single ‘Imagination’ this has also received support from Radio 1 by the main man Kutski and has done well on download charts.

Ubisoft’s much awaited game Assassin’s Creed II is now available in India.  . Thanks to Ubisoft for bringing this game earlier than the expected date of March 2010.

Story of Assassin’s Creed II takes place in 15th century, the era of Renaissance. The protagonist this time is nobleman-turned-assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who’ll give the players in open world gaming features. Hence, several acrobatics and open world actions like swimming in water would aid Ezio in accomplishing his tasks.

After singing the high notes of Fude pen Boru pen, I decided to sing Fuwa Fuwa Time… which is even higher.

But the thing with this one was the harmonies. I really love them, and I really enjoyed doing them, but it did take a while. I figured the harmonies after playing the melodies on my guitar, somewhat an easy task…. but not really.

Oh, and, yeah… Michy (aka hikaraseru) still goes MOE over me, I guess there’s no helping it. I’m officially moe for her. Not to mention she gave me a “Moe Factor Level”, only God (and her) knows what it really is…

Damn… I almost forgot to make a post for my Fude pen Boru pen.

This one is…. a little too high for me on the reffs, so I kinda force it (didn’t like the feeling, but love the outcome). And thanks to kran117 that helped me spot the wrong notes on the preview (Man, I’m glad I put up that preview).

I officially got a MOE status from hikaraseru because of this song… and from several other people after that. I don’t know how, but I just did… (GOD! MOE!? ME????)

I stumbeled over this website while reading messages on Plurk and i was amazed and moved to tears. “Operation Beautiful” has the mission to end “Fat Talk”. I suggest everyone to look at this page to know what Fat Talk is and what we can do to end it, including a great video, that is really powerful.

“Operation Beautiful” is simple: all you need is a pen and a piece of paper.

I’ve begun leaving positive messages on the mirrors of public restrooms — at work, at the gym, at the grocery store. I scribble down whatever comes to mind — “You are beautiful!” or “You are amazing just the way you are!”

My goal is to leave as many Operation Beautiful notes as I can. Maybe some people read them and just smile, but I bet some people are truly touched by the effort of a random stranger.

After seeing this webpage and all the simple but inspirational entries of people spreading the notes all over the world, i sent an Email to Caitlin, who launched and runs the “Operation Beautiful” Blog and the initiative and told her about my idea to spread notes like those in Second Life, and she gave me permission to do so. I’m really excited about it, since i do not leave the House in RL often, to still be able to participate.

Of course the Notes come for Free so everybody can get and spread them. They are modifiable to make them bigger and smaller, and copyable so you can put out as many as you like. If you find someone who likes them, just send them to *~*HopScotch*~* to pick them up for themselves.

Send them to friends, put them out on your land, in your shop, club, gallery, whereever you like and can build. If only one person gets to feel better through a note you set out, you made the world a better place.

Wow, it’s been crazy days! For all those who have been wondering about the lack of news and releases – sorry folks! Four weeks ago, my baby son has been born, and I don’t feel back to normal 100% yet… I tried to keep the implications on 12rec. minimal, but some times some things have top priority, you know?

Anyway, following Nic Bommarito’s “Harp Fragments“, this is part II of our “America, the beautiful” series. Derrick Hart, what a guy! Don’t miss his EP. And stay tuned with 12rec. – in just two weeks, we are going to have our traditional Christmas release. Something MANY people have been waiting for…

I am following the enigmatic Derrick Hart for quite a while now. Equally rooted in the chromatics of US-American Folklore and off-key Pop music, Hart is blessed with a wonderful voice and musical talent that makes his compositions shine like nothing else I heard in a while. His four track “Songs from a cross (the sea)” EP is probably the shortest 12rec. release ever – but one you do not want to miss.

“Songs from a cross (the sea)” kicks off with “Sunchild”, a febrile and angst-driven piece of Indiepop that marries the grandezza of Arcade Fire with the broken beauty of Brian Wilson. “Sad Leafless Trees”, the instrumental intermezzo afterwards, is a digestion of Hart’s Americana-sound. It is exciting to follow its textural drift.
“You’re winning so I quiet” is Derrick Hart in full effect, a larger-than-life DIY Country hymn. Hart’s great ability is to play it candy – but not much. For “Rest Well”, clarinet and cello strike up for a melancholy ballad that makes me think of Vincent Gallo and, ehm, Chris Isaak at the same time. Timeless!

Shouts go out to Justin Robert Wierbonski, Kirill Nikolai, Josie Stawicki, Peter Glenn, Jeremy Powell, Phil Norman and Stacy Price who helped making “Songs from a cross (the sea)” what it is.

Philippine Official Says Victims Were Sexually Mutilated

DAVAO CITY, the Philippines — Most or all of the 22 women among the 57
people massacred Monday in the southern Philippines were sexually mutilated,
the authorities said Friday, adding grim details to the catalog of horrors
that has already emerged.

“Even the private parts of the women were shot at,” the justice secretary,
Agnes Devanadera, said on national television. “It was horrible. It was not
done to just one. It was done practically to all the women.”

While work continued to identify all the dead, the National Union of
Journalists of the Philippines said that it appeared that 30 journalists and
their assistants had been killed. About a dozen of the victims were the
relatives, lawyers or supporters of Esmael Mangudadatu, a local politician
whose determination to challenge the entrenched Ampatuan clan in a
gubernatorial election apparently touched off the violence.

Investigators said that the rest of the victims, perhaps as many as 15,
happened to be stopped at a checkpoint along the highway in Ampatuan, a town
in Maguindanao Province, when the convoy of Mangudadatu supporters and
journalists was stopped by police officers and militiamen loyal to the
Ampatuans. They were killed to eliminate witnesses, investigators said.

Ms. Devanadera said that several of the men accused of taking part in the
slaughter had surrendered and offered to testify. Though the killings
violated a traditional custom against harming women, the men seemed to be
troubled more by the deaths of the journalists and the bystanders.

“They are bothered by their conscience because they thought that only the
Mangudadatus would be shot,” Ms. Devanadera said.

Andal Ampatuan Jr., a local mayor who is suspected of having ordered the
killings, turned himself in Thursday, protesting his innocence. He is
expected to be charged with murder next week. Ms. Devanadera told The
Philippine Daily Inquirer that Mr. Ampatuan’s brother Zaldy and his father,
Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr., the clan patriarch, were also under investigation.

Mr. Mangudadatu’s wife, Genalyn, his two sisters and two lawyers working for
him were among the women who were mutilated and murdered. He said on
Thursday that his wife had been shot “in her private parts.”

Ms. Devanadera said that the zippers of the women’s pants had been undone
and that some of the women had had their pants pulled down. She said the
authorities were still trying to determine whether the women had been raped,
but “it is certain that something bad was done to them.”

Felicisimo Khu, a police superintendent, said Wednesday that the women’s
bodies had been found separate from the men’s.

At least one witness, according to Ms. Devanadera, told investigators that
Andal Ampatuan Jr. was on the scene giving commands but that it was not
clear whether he fired a gun.

On Friday, Mr. Mangudadatu, leading a 50-vehicle convoy guarded by soldiers
and heavily armed police officers, finally filed his certificate of
candidacy to run for governor of Maguindanao — precisely what the others
were on their way to do when they were murdered. “I had to do it,” he said
in a telephone interview on Friday. “I owe it to my dear wife, to my family,
to my supporters and to all those journalists who died while doing their
job.”

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been under intense pressure to pursue
and prosecute the killers. The Ampatuan family is her closest political ally
in the southern Philippines and played a critical role in her 2004 election
victory. Her government has assisted the Ampatuans and other area clans in
building potent militias to combat the secessionist and Islamist
insurgencies that have plagued the region.

On Friday, she ordered Interior Secretary Reynaldo Puno to take direct
control of the autonomous region in Muslim Mindanao, a collection of
provinces on and near the island of Mindanao, and to suspend local, police
and military officials if necessary to proceed with the investigation.

A military spokesman said Friday that two ground commanders of the armed
forces in Maguindanao had been relieved of their commands. The military on
Thursday took control of the provincial capital, Shariff Aguak, and other
towns, a day after disarming dozens of militiamen employed by the Ampatuans.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, the largest media
group in the country, urged the government on Friday to form a special court
to try the suspects. “This is to help ensure that no whitewash will happen
and to identify the roots and those responsible for this unimaginable
crime,” said Nestor Burgos Jr., the group’s chairman.

I have decided to clean up the Wigbi Demos even more, to make them easier to read. To do so, I will remove all the textual code samples from the pages and just keep the class descriptions as well as interactive UI components.

For instance, the SessionHandler demo will describe what the SessionHandler class does and describe what functions it features. The demo will also feature a text box and a button that can be used to save data to session, as well as a button that can be used to retrieve data from session. All the code samples, which shows how to call the set and get functions in PHP and JavaScript, will however be removed.

Hopefully, this will result in an even cleaner demo experience. If you want to see how the demos are built up, just download the Wigbi demos and take a look at the code.

So yes, this is one of my favourite albums from this year. I find it rather difficult to review, but I’m gonna try it.

Dan Mangan is 26 year old, Vancouver, Canada based singer-songwriter. Think about classical singer-songwriter stuff, but this time with an ‘edgy’, poppy folk touch with some rock influence too. Though his last album ‘Nice, Nice, Very Nice’, takes this principle to the next level. He has previously released the album ‘Postcards and Daydreaming’.

Let’s continue to the review. The first word that pops up in my mind about this album is ‘intelligent’. In all aspects, this album is intelligent. The compositions, the lyrics, the vocals, they’re all just well thought out. He never seems to fall for the typical singer-songwriter clichés, mainly because his lyrics are so bright.

Lyrically, this is one of my favourite albums. Mangan writes pretty literal texts, they’re filled with honest and observation. And the observations are good, really good. He also uses some great metaphors now and then, better than Ben Folds in his best years(and some of Folds’ are REALLY good). Filled with emotion and honest, the texts never become a cliché like song. There’s always a raw edge, some unexpected words, a great metaphor or some silent that keeps you listening. So a huge compliment to his skill of lyric writing.

Also, if you look at the compositions, the first thing in my mind is ‘intelligent’. They’re diverse, but the songs still remain an album. They might sound pretty easy at a first listen, but after a while, you might notice that these are some pretty decent tunes too. Great melody lines, various instruments, backing vocals, duets, it’s all on this album. Silent spots at the places where they should be and filling a song with instruments where it should be. Some of these songs are nearly perfection, like you would here on an Andrew Bird record. For example, ‘You Silly Git’ would fit perfectly on the latest Bird album (with different lyrics of course). Though, the rest of the stuff probably wouldn’t fit at all. ‘Robots’ is one of the best pop songs I’ve ever heard. It’s catchy, it’s a great composition, it keeps repeating in your head, it got everything to become a massive hit. I have to say that a lot of his songs keep repeating in you head, without getting annoying at all. ‘Basket’ is one of those songs that rips your soul into a billion tiny pieces and makes you cry on a first listen (or at least me). While ‘Some People’ makes you want to dance.

Another remarkable thing about Dan Mangan is his voice. It just keeps my attention all the time, it never gets boring. It’s a rich, full sounding voice, with a little raw edge.

Compared to his first album ‘Postcards and Daydreaming’, he did really grow, in all aspects. Looking at the composition, lyrics and vocals, it’s a really strong album. Mangan got potential to become one of the new, big singer-songwriters in this world. Especially if he continues the path he’s following now. I don’t know if he can grow much more, but if he could, I think I might have found some competition for Andrew Bird for my spot of favourite musician. His songs are easy to understand, no difficulties or strange compositions. They’re basic and intelligent. And that makes this album a wonderful album, and one of the better ones made this year, and definitely the best in the (indie/folk/pop-) genre.
