Quand j’étais en Corée, j’attrapais un rhume à tous les changements de saison. Mais à mon grand étonnement, depuis que je suis arrivée en France, je n’ai jamais eu de rhume.

 Ma maman disait que si on se ressaisit bien, les bactéries ne peuvent pas rester dans notre corps. Si on est malade quand on est loin de sa famille, on se sent plus mal et on souffre. Donc je dois toujours faire bien attention à ma santé. Je sais pas si c’est malheureux ou heureux mais peut-être que je me suis détendue par rapport à la vie en France. Alors……enfin!!!! j’ai attrapé un rhume!!

mais avant de prendre mes dispositions pour faire face au froid de l’hiver, le rhume m’attaque!!

Maman s’inquiète en écoutant ma voix nasillarde.

En fait, je voulais pleurnicher mais, à cause de la trop grande inquiétude de ma maman, j’ai dis « ça va » pour la rassurer. Elle me donne les remèdes populaires traditionnels qu’elle me fait depuis que je suis petite.

1. en cas de toux, ne pas manger de pomme.

2. en cas de mal à la gorge, manger du ‘bae-sook’(creuser l’intérieur d’une poire, remplir avec du miel et faire cuire à la vapeur)

3. prendre un tissu mouillé pour garder l’humidité.

4. même s’il fait froid, souvent ouvrir la fenêtre pour ventiler.

5. en cas de fièvre, boire souvent du thé chaud comme du ‘thé gingembre’ (faire bouillir les morceaux de gingembre avec beaucoup de miel jusqu’a la disparition du goût amer de gingembre)

6. en cas de mal au gorge, se gargariser avec de l’eau au gros sel.

Et… le plus important!tu porte les vêtements chauds même s’ils ne sont pas très à la mode!

La santé c’est plus important que  la mode..(c’est ma maman qui le souligne toujours)^0^

Petit-Bout, qui aurait tant aimé être médecin, sait bien que presque toujours, à la base d’une vocation de médecin, d’infirmière, de secouriste, de pompier, de bénévole d’ONG…, il y a eu, très souvent dans l’enfance le double spectacle bouleversant de la compétence d’un de ces serviteurs du bien et de la reconnaissance éperdue, pour son restant de vie, du bénéficiaire de l’intervention, souvent un petit frère, une grand-mère bien-aimée, une maman qu’on a cru perdre.

Longtemps a eu cours ce triste troc : rachat des fautes adultes contre douleur des enfants innocents, impuissants, et leurs cris étaient le lamentable bruissement de cette sinistre monnaie d’échange. Il y a encore bien peu d’années on disait aux jeunes étudiants en médecine : « endurcissez-vous, apprenez à ne pas entendre les cris », parce qu’il n’y avait de fait rien d’autre à faire, parce qu’on n’avait pas voulu envisager le problème, chercher ou oser employer les remèdes efficaces contre cette douleur qu’il est si facile d’ignorer, une douleur qui se taît d’ailleurs si vite quand l’épuisement est le plus fort, au point qu’on a pu affirmer que les enfants ne souffraient pas et que de toute façon, ils se remettaient vite et oubliaient. Nous-mêmes adultes ne gardons aucun souvenir de ces éventuels supplices de la petite enfance, d’avant trois ans ; sauf que c’est peut-être cela qui fait surgir du plus profond de l’inconscient certains de nos cauchemars les plus atroces,.

Et de fait, très vite on ne les entend plus ces cris du petit martyr, que l’épuisement fait taire et qui se réfugie dans une prostration qui ressemble comme une sœur à l’autisme. Très vite on s’y fait. Et très vite les petits flairent cette dangerosité de ces lieux et de ces gens qui, surmenés, sont souvent encore conduits malgré eux à faire du mal, à ne pas assez annoncer la douleur possible, à ne pas dire les mots simples qui donnent du sens à une souffrance qui sera plus facile à endurer (« pardonne-moi, je vais être obligé de te faire du mal pour décoller ce pansement, mais je sais que tu es plein de courage… ») à ne pas assez exploiter la panoplie des soulagements.

Le Docteur Annie Gauvain-Piquard[1] (hôpital Gustave Roussy de Villejuif où elle anime une consultation sur la douleur du tout-petit), lutte depuis 30 ans pour faire admettre et son combat quand elle a découvert un jour qu’en pensant « il faut donner quelque chose à cet enfant qui souffre trop », en fait aucun nom précis de médicament réellement efficace ne lui venait à l’esprit, parce qu’en fait il n’y en avait pas, parce qu’on avait négligé ce secteur de la recherche, et qu’entre autres hypocrisies, pour des raisons peu claires, on refusait de leur administrer de la morphine.

La souffrance des enfants[2] dont on taît ou ignore la douleur (« les enfants ça ne souffre pas, ou si ça souffre, ça oublie vite… si tu ne peux pas supporter ça, change de métier » disait-on à la jeune interne Annie Gauvain-Picquard en 1979), leur exploitation dans un travail infâme (au bas mot « 300 millions d’esclaves » selon Monestier), sont la honte de notre civilisation nord-occidentale qui se prétend évoluée et supérieure à toutes les autres.

[2] Le parallèle est frappant : il y a 25 ans, on niait encore l’atroce douleur des enfants que l’on persuadait qu’il fallait souffrir pour guérir et il y a 10 ans on taisait le harcèlement moral. Dans les deux cas des victimes ou trop jeunes ou hébétées, déprimées, qui ne peuvent trouver les mots pour dire leur souffrance.

En mélangeant deux vaccins connus qui ne s’étaient pas révélés efficaces séparément, des chercheurs américains et thaïlandais semblent avoir réduit de près du tiers les infections au VIH dans un échantillon thaïlandais. Les résultats sont accueillis avec un optimisme prudent.

Le remède est pire que le mal. Pendant longtemps, on a pensé qu’utiliser l’huile de canne à sucre, pour faire avancer sa voiture et remplacer les hydrocarbures, c’était une idée de tonnerre.

Le Brésil, par exemple, est à la pointe de ce développement. La moitié du pays roule à l’éthanol, et malheureusement, on se rend compte maintenant que cette solution n’est vraiment pas la panacée.

En effet, la culture de la canne à sucre empiète sur d’autres cultures de subsistance d’une part, et augmente la pression sur la forêt équatoriale, et son défrichage.

A moins que des déchets végétaux ne soient utilisés, cette option n’est pas valable, car même si je n’ai pas les chiffres sous la main, un hectare de canne à sucre permet de produire tellement peu d’énergie par rapport à la population qu’une même surface d’une culture vivrière pourrait alimenter que la question ne se pose même plus.

Dans le même ordre d’idées, une surface permet d’alimenter beaucoup plus de personnes si du blé ou du maïs sont cultivés, que si c’est de la viande. De nouveau, il me manque le site qui propose la comparaison des productivités des sols selon différentes cultures. Si vous en entendez parler, signalez-le moi! Même si je ne vais pas me transformer en végétarien à l’instant, il paraît clair qu’il est “écologiquement correct” d’être carnivore avec parcimonie, à mon plus grand regret…

Pour en revenir au sujet de ce billet, il faudra donc se concentrer sur d’autres solutions pour contrer le réchauffement climatique. L’huile végétale n’est donc pas une énergie aussi renouvelable qu’on le pensait, la pile à combustible n’est pas encore commercialisable et présente sûrement également quelques vices cachés, les éoliennes demandent du vent et choquent la sensibilité au paysage de certains… Bref, on n’est pas encore sortis de l’auberge.

Que cette vision un peu pessimiste ne nous arrête pas, pendant ce temps où aucune solution magique ne se dégage, de continuer à faire nos petits gestes modestes à notre échelle pour diminuer notre propre bilan énergétique. Ça sera le sujet d’un prochain billet…

When temperatures outside plummet to below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, I become a total weather wimp. No more three mile runs outside, I head to the cozy comfort of the warm fitness club conveniently located around the corner from my house! And while all that brisk winter air gives my cheeks a rosy hue (without blush!), winter is undeniably tough on skin. The air is cold and dry outside. The heat is on inside. Layers of itchy wool and mohair can itch and irritate. There’s wind and ice and snow. Uggh… book me a ticket to the tropics! Give me some of that warm, humid air.

Winter skin becomes seriously thirsty… dry, tight, flaky, ashy. And if you are over 35 (yes, I confess I am), your skin has probably begun to lose its ability to retain moisture. And if you have dry or sensitive skin, no matter what your age, your skin likely has moisture-retaining challenges. Add winter and…what’s a girl to do?

Here are spa-proven tips for keeping skin luscious, supple, moisture-filled:

1. after showering or bathing, apply body moisturizer while skin is still damp. This will help lock in moisture, which means your skin stays supple and hydrated for longer than 10 minutes! My current favorite is bliss naked body butter maximum moisture cream, because it provides long term moisturization and it is fragrance free. So I can wear my favorite perfume without scent clashing. Have you gone shopping at any of the post-holiday blowout sales? I attempted to stimulate the economy this evening by taking a little shopping trip downtown. It was a mild evening, so I walked a couple of miles from the office to Union Square. I stopped at a bunch of stores on my way: Anthropologie (a guilty pleasure of mine), J Crew, Banana Republic, Crate & Barrel, Coach, Zara, Barnes & Noble, but nothing jumped out at me. I have always been cautious with my money, but even more so lately. If I don’t love something, I don’t buy it.

Speaking of things I love, I am stocking up on my beloved high intensity eye contour before it goes extinct. My heart broke a little bit when I found out it was going to be discontinued-it’s everything I love and need in an eye cream-a little caffeine to reduce my morning puffy eyes, a little moisturization to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and it made the perfect base for applying concealer on top of-not too slippery, but still hydrating. It’s the perfect all-year eye cream. It’s hydrating in the winter and controls allergy-induced puff. Since I moved to New York two years ago I am allergic to virtually everything. Lucky me.

*sigh* Farewell, my little eye cream friend. You will be missed.

Hello, beauties! I hope you unwrapped lots of gorgeous goodies this year! I am back in New York and couldn’t be happier to be here. After an eleven hour trip home yesterday, I felt more like Miss Hiss than Miss Bliss! I am finally unpacked and squeaky clean after a wonderful shower with all the comforts of home (read: 50 different products in the bathroom to choose from!)
