Descriptum: Selena se trouve un air trés susceptible mais en réalité elle se foutait largement de moi! (sa sœur aussi d’ailleurs… Et son chat que ça ne m’étonnerait pas!)

Before you answer, consider the following:

You’ve already taken Defense Against the Dark Arts from Quirrell, who was a host body for Voldemort; Lupin, who turned out to be a werewolf (a totally harmless werewolf, but a werewolf nonetheless); Mad-Eye Moody, who turned out to actually be Barty Crouch Jr.; and Umbridge, who we all know is batshit crazy (to be blunt).

Is it really that big of a leap to take the course from Snape? At the end of the day, his absolute adoration for the Dark Arts may be a benefit. If you know how to do them, you know how to defend against them. And when it comes to such an important class, you don’t want a professor who is soft or nice. You want someone who will beat you down and push you hard and make you work to even pass.

So ignoring the fact that Snape kills Dumbledore – because you wouldn’t know that yet – would you take Defense Against the Dark Arts from Snape?

I would, especially if I was Harry. He needs someone to push him to the brink. He needs to learn everything he possibly can if he ever hopes to beat Voldemort. Snape hates him. Who better to challenge the heck out of him?

Yes, I would take Defense Against the Dark Arts from the Dark Arts guy himself. Know your enemy.

Slightly off the topic, I enjoy the loophole they threw in there to keep Harry on track to becoming an auror. Harry couldn’t continue with Potions if Snape was teaching the N.E.W.T. course, but now that he’s not…very clever.

I don’t think Harry will be an auror, though. Hmm…

Another week, another poll! This time, I’m not at all surprised by the results.

When asked who is your favorite Hogwarts professor, 43% of you responded McGonagall. While I don’t vote in the weekly polls, I said in a previous entry how much I adore McGonagall. She’s strict in the way you want a professor to be strict – she has rules, but she’s flexible and fair. More importantly, she cares deeply.

Following in quick succession with 30% of the vote is my personal second-choice: Lupin. Originally, I had the wrong idea about this guy. At first, I was convinced he was the bad guy. Then, I had this crazy idea that he was Crookshanks. But once I realized he is actually a really awesome (and harmless) guy who was honestly a good teacher (with no ulterior motive), I adored him – so did you, evidently. Though maybe you never suspected he was a cat.

Clocking in at a respectable 20% of the vote is Snape, which makes me think that my prediction that he is not as bad as they want us to believe in Half-Blood Prince may be accurate. That is, unless 20% of you like to root for the bad guy, in which case I don’t really know how to respond. You get on with your “bad-guy-rooting” selves!

Oddly, only one person voted for Hagrid – I anticipated a better showing. He’s not a great teacher, per say, but he is lovable nevertheless. I guess when compared to actually competent professors, however, he drops in the ranking.

And someone (((cough))) Doug (((cough))) voted for a professor who has not yet been introduced. Fair enough, but that implies that someone better than McGonagall AND Lupin is coming around the bend. Interesting. Could that be possible? Curious.

So there you have it – last week’s poll results in a nutshell.

I am currently rereading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the 3rd time. It is as always, amazing. I hope to finish in the next few weeks. I am also reading For One More Day by Mitch Albom. It is really good so far. I read one of his other books, The Five People You Meet In Heaven. It was an amazing book, and I know For One More Day will be nothing less!

Hace pocos días salió este trailer, de una película que ansío ver desde hace medio año por lo menos, pero que siempre que se acerca su estreno, ¡pam!, me la posponen. De ahí que, de su fecha original, 13 de febrero de 2009 (sí, hace mucho tiempo ya), la pasaran a abril del mismo año, y casi enseguida a noviembre, para que, finalmente salieran con otro cambio para el 12 de febrero de 2009, exacto, un año después de su fecha de estreno original.

Bueno, no importa, olvíden mi choro y vean el trailer:

Como seguramente vieron, la cinta de suspenso/terror tiene un hermoso reparto: Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, mi diva Emily Blunt y mi favorito Hugo Weaving. Calidad es casi segura, a diferencia de la otrora película de hombres lobo The Twilight Saga: New Moon, que estrena trailer también con un estúpido diálogo-comentario de Taylor Lautner aka el Sharkboy. ¿A alguien le interesa lo que este cabrón tenga que decir? Al parecer no, pero parece más un pinche featurette: 

Un momento, ¿qué hacen en 0:15? Quién sabe, pero esto me hace pensar, ¿quién ganaría en una putiza de hombres lobo? ¿El terrorífico y asesino Lawrence Talbot aka The Wolfman, el lobito común y corriente pero “sexy” Jake Black, el super mamado y monstruoso Van Helsing con garras metálicas (jaja estaría chido ¿no?), el gringo que sufre transformaciones dolorosas, el lobito diabólico de Underworld, el largirucho y languido profesor Lupin, o el heroico elfito Link?

Los demás filmes en donde salen estos rabiosos… pues obviamente pueden encontrarlos en DeVeDe, Blu-Rei, VeacHeSe, Beta, Pirata y en tiendas como Mics-Op, Gual-Mart, San Búho, Liberpul, el Amazonas, y por supuesto, en el tiangüis.

See you in the sixth book? Yes? No? Not so much?

I’ve started playing this dangerous new game every time a character is introduced in Order of the Phoenix. It’s called the “I don’t remember seeing you in the sixth movie, so that means you probably die in this book” game. And I’m fighting off the urge to IMDB Half-Blood Prince to see if maybe I just overlooked a few characters because I had no living clue what was going on.

Right now, the entire Order of the Phoenix (or at least the members who appear in Chapter 3) are on death watch (where would this blog be without another death watch?).

I know Sirius dies. I don’t know how, and I’m not even entirely sure when. But he won’t be making any cameos in the sixth book, I’m fairly certain. As for the others – Tonk, Lupin, etc. – maybe they go into hiding? Maybe they have absolutely nothing to do with anything discussed in Half-Blood Prince. Maybe the sixth film just sucked so much that these pivotal characters were left-out. Or maybe they die.

I feel like I would have remembered if a whole slew of wizards were suddenly wiped out. And I need to stop placing stock in the films, which from what I understand, are abridged abominations from this point forward.

But that doesn’t stop me from wondering if all these delightful new characters are going to meet an unfortunate end sooner than later. I’d be surprised…but I wouldn’t be surprised.

The vote is still open in the poll off yonder. Deathly Hollows has taken the lead, to nobody’s surprise. But somebody, somewhere out there MUST love Sorcerer’s Stone or Chamber of Secrets. Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

Last night, I had a dream (“as I recall, it was a horror dream.”  No, actually, kidding).  As far as I can tell, it had no coherent plot, but it might have involved playing Command and Conquer 3, Cameron (from House, M.D.) who incidentally, was also in C&C3, Remus Lupin, who might also have been FDR and married to Cameron*, werewolves (I, possibly, was one), Mr. David, my childhood fear of jungle gyms, aaaaaaand the fact that there is a door from the public bathroom into the room that I sleep in here at the Chalet, and I pretty much have this unfounded, supressed fear that someone might walk in on me while I’m snoozin’.

Right.

Ironically, this is a pretty good summation of what I’ve been up to (except for FDR and the jungle gym, I dunno what is up with that!).  So here are some things that have recently happened in my life, of no particularly significance or order:

1. So I never thought I was OCD, but I think I might be.  Command and Conquer has this thing where it tracks the number of wins and losses for all the games that you play, and I had a perfect winning record before a couple of nights ago.  Well, as some of you may know, my computer has gotten into the nasty habit of overheating and shutting off without prior warning, and it did just this in the middle of a mission. WELL, C&C3 registered this as me chickening out and recorded it as a loss… and now my record is no longer perfect.  QQ WOE IS ME WTF I H8 LYFE. I am seriously am considering just erased my record as a whole but then I’d lose my 18 wins.

2. My iTunes won’t open for whatever dumb reason.  Think I might restart my computer after this post.

3. While we’re on the topic of my computer, it seems to like to protest everytime I run anything vaguely graphics-intensive.  This includes any and all games that I thought I could get my fix of this summer.  BALLS.  I am hoping it is the altitude affecting it, and it’ll be right as rain when I get back to Boston.  :(

4. Since my laptop has been mostly out of commission, I’ve spent a lot of time reading webcomics and playing on my DS.  I beat The World Ends With You the other day and finished reading Questionable Content this morning.  TWEWY was all right; the curveball at the end was, well, BALLER, but I wasn’t terribly fond of the gameplay.  I’ve since moved onto FFXII: Revenant Wings which I am really liking right now, because it just might hint a teensy tiny bit at an RTS-style gameplay.  PLUS the graphics are awesome!

5. You should all read Questionable Content.  Why?  It’s hilarious.  The characters are adorable.  Also there is a kickass character named Dora and she’s really hot and has a cute Indie boyfriend and I may or may not be living vicariously through her.

6. Speaking of webcomics, have you seen this recent xkcd?  Because, sadly, I think that might describe me.  This blogpost is kind of hard evidential proof.

7. I don’t usually drink more than a bottle or two of beer, because I apparently say really, really stupid, inane things after more.  Not embarassing things, but stuff like “Wow, that telescope is really big!”  Except, I think I remember more high school French while drunk.

8. I’ve been getting into Blaqk Audio, which is the electronica side project of two members of AFI.  I don’t really like AFI, but I do like Blaqk Audio’s sound, and Davey Havoc (seriously, is that actually his name??) sings better in this than he does in AFI, I think.  His voice isn’t really made for punk, at least, to me.  My favorite song is “Semiotic Love” which y’all should listen to!  I’m kind of obsessed with it.  Dunno what the deal is with the video though.  Didn’t even watch it, so no guarantees.

9. Still sort of getting over fictional character crush on good ol’ Remus Lupin.  Think I might reread Prisoner of Azkaban again when I get home.  That, and I hear that Deathly Hallows is better the second time around.  I might actually just skip all of Harry’s piss-whining in his tent.  And the part where Remus and Tonks… aw shucks, no, I can’t do it.  Never reading Deathly Hallows again.  It’s over, J.K. Rowling!  We’re done.  I’m not over it, and I never will be.

10. To those of you who have been texting me, I apologize for not responding.  Usually I am sleeping when it gets to me, and by the time I wake up and am coherent enough to text a response back, it’s like, 3am where you are.  I love you and we should hang out when I get back!

11. I will post Arizona pictures when I get home.  I was hoping to embed them into this blog (I’ve been trying but then I gave up, as you can tell) but it’s a bitch of a job and takes forever to load and stuff.  I think I might make a Flickr account or something and post it up there instead.  They’re also all on Facebook, and I should be friends with all of you reading this blog.  Er, at least I hope I am.  Unless you’re Jamie Bamber – in which case, read on! (And friend me on Facebook!)

12. Craving sushi.  Minado’s run when I get home, y/y?

Well, that’s sort of it for now.  Now that the REU folks have left, there isn’t much to do except y’know, work (god forbid!).  The good news is that I made a good sum of money this summer.  The bad news is that I also spent a good sum as well.  Balls.

*DUDE.  Not that I’d EVER want to separate Remus from his dear Tonks, but wouldn’t he and Cameron be kind of adorable?  (Question: who WOULDN’T Cameron be adorable with?  Answer: Gaius Baltar.) I mean, he’s like, the ultimate sad, hurt, broken puppy (get it, pun!  ’Cause he’s a werewolf!).  Also, Lupin + Remus = Lupus, clearly.  Match made in heaven.

**How hard would it be to get all of you to start calling me Tonks?  HMMM…

The Marauders

DISCLAIMER: This post is written in English and it’s about Harry Potter (quedáis avisados).

So good, SO-GOOD. I can hardly find the proper words to express my excitement. This time it’s not about this four guys again –well, it is but not directly. The thing is that I’ve found the best story EVER written about the most interesting characters in the HP world –yeah, you’ve guessed it: the Marauders.

Looking something up in the Internet, I came across the picture above and others made by the same person –actually I think it was in Facebook, and it was Mery who showed it to me. I liked them so much that I looked for the artist and I found THIS: The Shoebox Project. And when I took a look around it and I understood what it was and I thought it was just perfect, I almost fainted.

I’m gonna try to describe it. This is not as easy as it may seem. The reason is that the Shoebox Project, despite its name, actually doesn’t fit in a shoebox, because it’s more like a net, or like a tree that has above a great deal of branches with many leaves and beneath a lot of roots. It is divided in more than twenty parts, which contain stories, pictures, letters and notes about the Marauders. Or, in the authors’ words: “The Shoebox Project is a series of stories (of sort) written by the fabulous Jaida and Rave in the Harry Potter universe. It contains photos, notes, and stories, written about the Marauders (James Potter, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew) during their time at Hogwarts. While the story mostly takes place during their 6th and 7th years at Hogwarts, there are also tales of the Marauders younger years. While focusing on the mischievious Marauders, it also touches on the relationship between James and Lily Evans, the rise of Voldemort, and a relationship between Sirius and Remus (which is in the last few parts).”

So this is it. I’ve read like a half of it (unfortunately a little bit more u.u) and I’ve gotten just HOOKED on it. It’s so full with humour and funny situations that sometimes I get embarrassed because I can’t help laughing out loud on my own. Remus looks adorable to me: he likes books above everything else and always gets into awkward moments (like when a bar of chocolate melted inside his back pocket); Sirius has so much energy that he’s able to cheer his mates up; Peter tries his best to be like his friends and sometimes he’s the only one with common sense; and James is just so… so sweet, so immature (he wants to become a super-hero ¬¬), so broken-hearted, so childish, so brave, so funny, so clumsy, so adorable (again) and so James… The only thing I don’t like about SBP is the fact that Remus and Sirius are the main characters.

I think Lupin is Crookshanks.

If Sirius Black is the dog, why couldn’t Lupin be the cat? You never see Lupin and Crookshanks together. The Sneakoscope goes off when Lupin is in the room, but also when Crookshanks is in the room. Lupin claimed to have been friends with Black, and Harry sees the cat and the dog wandering the grounds together. Lupin has been “sick and missing”, but maybe this has something to do with also playing the part of Hermione’s pet. I’m sure there’s more to this – Lupin wouldn’t just be transfiguring into a cat for shits and giggles. But if I’m right, I may want to recant my claim that Lupin is the bad guy.

Let’s just put it this way: If Lupin and Crookshanks are one in the same, Lupin is not a bad guy. If they are not, then he’s trouble.

Antes que nada, perdón por el título de esta entrada; me salió bien a lo alemán. En segundo lugar, aviso que esta entrada tiene spoilers. Así que si no querés que te arruine el día no sigas leyendo. Esto último me resulta un poco estúpido, acaso no todo el mundo sabía que Dumbledore se moría al final? En tercer lugar, aclaro que no soy crítico de cine, más bien un simple espectador, y que esta entrada no pretende ser más que un comentario acerca del film.

El sábado fui a ver Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince (aka El Príncipe Mestizo). La película, que se estrenó con una semana de retraso en la Argentina, fue esperada con mucha ansia por quien escribe por una simple razón: Emma Watson (la cual se ha puesto muy linda). Y es que desde The Goblet of Fire, los libros de J.K. Rowling no me terminan de convencer. Desde que leí aquel libro me dió la sensación de que Rowling ya prestaba más atención al marketing que a otra cosa, y desde que salieron las películas (la primera en 2001) sin duda The Order of the Phoenix, The Half Blood Prince y The Deathley Hallows fueron escritos teniendo en mente los films. Pero de eso hablaré en otra oportunidad.

En cuanto a la película, fuí a verla, como hago siempre, sin antes haber leído ninguna review. Al llegar al cine, bien temprano (sábado 25 3PM) recibí una señal que no supe interpretar: hasta las 21 todas las funciones estaban agotadas. Entonces saqué para esa hora y volví a casa. Regresé a las 20.40 y me encontré con que la fila para ingresar se encontraba por fuera del hall. Afuera hacía mucho frío y corría viento, mientras que el hall de entrada (que es inmenso) estaba vacío: esa fue la segunda señal. Una vez ingresé al pasillo interior que comunica con las distintas salas, me encontré con una escena terrorífica: al cartel en tamaño real de Harry junto a Dumbledore le faltaba la cabeza… y la varita de Harry. Aquella fue la tercera señal. Como un tonto no supe interpretarlas; todas indicaban lo mismo: esta película no va a estar buena. Jaja y así sucedió.

De toda la saga de películas, ésta fue la que peor adaptó el libro. Reconozco que lo leí hace dos años ya, y que no lo tenía muy fresco en la mente, pero por momentos pensé estar viendo una película que no tenía nada que ver con el niño mago. En cuanto a la duración y el desarrollo del film, así como lo plantearon debería haber durado una hora más (me pregunto como habrán hecho para entender aquellos que fueron sin haber leído ningún libro). No entendí cuál fue el motivo para darle tanta atención al tema hormonal y descuidar los aspectos principales de la trama. Acaso quisieron hacer algo parecido a Twilight? Además, tampoco me parecieron bien logradas dichas escenas.

Aún así, me parece que fue bien filmada, con efectos especiales acordes y una adecuada fotografía. Aunque… en algunas escenas me parece que se les fue la mano con la oscuridad. Pero de estos temas sé poco y nada así que continuemos por otro lado.

En cuanto a actuación se refiere. Me llevé una gran sorpresa con el trabajo de Michael Gambon interpretando a Albus Dumbledore. Siempre me desagradó el pobre desarrollo del personaje en las películas. Cualquiera que haya leído los libros sabe que Dumbledore no es como se lo pinta en los films. A pesar de ello, la actuación de Gambon, de 68 años, fue en esta entrega sencillamente magistral. A pesar de que se aleja del original, supo darle a su peculiar versión de Albus, un toque de majestuosidad que no pudo dar en otras oportunidades. La actuación en la escena en donde recuperan el falso Horrocrux, para la cual debe beber todo el líqudo mágico, fue absolutamente genial. Realmente un actor de puta madre. Sin duda se despidió de su papel con gloria, ya que su próxima aparición (si es que deciden incluirla) es demasiado breve.

Otro actor de puta madre es Jim Broadbent. En esta película se lució verdaderamente interpretando al Profesor Horace Slughorn. Como dije antes, no tengo muy fresco el libro, así que no me animo a decir si su papel es fiel o no. De todos modos, en la película se desenvolvió satisfactoriamente en distintas escenas (de distinto clima). Leí que, gracias a Dios, el actor, de 60 años, aparecerá nuevamente en las dos proximas entregas.

Qué se puede decir de Alan Rickman (Profesor Snape) y Maggie Smith (Profesora McGonagall)? Dos actores, en este caso, de reputísima madre. Es sencillo, cuando entran en escena no importa si dicen poco ni con quién aparecen, en seguida roban cámara de una manera espectacular. Los dos actores, de 63 y 74 años, respectivamente, han logrado desarrollar sus personajes, a lo largo de la serie, de un modo fascinante. Y esta entrega no es la excepción. Es una lástima que los hayan de cierto modo marginado en cuanto a sus apariciones. A Snape, quizá el personaje más rico de la historia, que es el Príncipe Mestizo que da nombre al film, prácticamente se lo puso en un segundo o incluso tercer plano.

Tampoco me quiero olvidar de la actuación de Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), la cual es otra actriz de puta madre, de David Thewlis (Remus Lupin), David Bradley (Argus Filch) y de Timothy Spall (Wormtail/Peter Pettigrew). Aunque aparecen poco, son unos maestros a la hora de interpretar sus personajes.

Algunas otras sorpresas

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) ha demostrado que tiene talento y le auguro un interesante futuro. Me dejó sorprendido la actuación de Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown). Rupert Grint (Ron) ha mejorado bastante con respecto a las anteriores entregas. En cuanto a Emma Watson (Hermione), se nota que ha madurado con la experiencia, aunque me parece muy bien que se dedique a estudiar Literatura (a buen entendedor pocas palabras). En cuanto a Evanna Lynch, no sé si es buena actriz, pero el papel de esquizofrénica le sienta de maravilla.

Lo mismo de siempre

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) sigue creyendo que pararse frente a una cámara y poner cara de inocente es actuar. Y en cuanto a Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), es muy bonita, pero no sirve ni para relleno.

Las tres mejores escenas

En mi humilde opinión, entre las tres escenas mejor logradas del film se encuentran: la escena en donde Dumbledore y Harry se encuentran en la Cueva de los Inferi, la escena del funeral de Aragog y la escena de la Enfermería (en donde aparecían Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Slughorn, Harry, Ron, Lavender, Ginny y Hermione).

Lo que no perdono

La parte cuando el colegio encuentra el cadáver de Dumbledore no llegó a ser lo suficientmente emotiva: debería haber sido el clímax de la película! Y cómo puede ser que hayan decidido obviar sus funerales? Era la escena que quizá yo más esperaba, en donde aparecerían todos los magos y las criaturas del Bosque. Decir que dicha ausencia me indignó, es poco decir.

Como hice en otra oportunidad, no quiero desaprovechar la oportunidad de hacer un pequeño comentario acerca del soundtrack. Trataré, por supuesto de centrarme en esta última entrega. Y es que hablar en general de la música de Harry Potter merece una entrada aparte.

El score fue compuesto por Nicholas Hooper, quien ya se había encargado de la música de la anterior película. Aquel soundtrack fue sencillamente excelente y absolutamente original, en cambio, éste me pareció muy flojo y vacío de contenido. Fue simple música de relleno, a excepción de algunos tracks.

En general, podemos decir que se trata de una continuación, en términos musicales, del anterior score. Llama mucho la atención, en Ron’s Victory, una reminiscencia del genial track compuesto por John Williams, Quidditch, Third Year (Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban). Se trata de una respetuosa reinterpretación que realmente me ha gustado mucho. La misma reminiscencia aparece en Of Love & War. También se encuentran extractos de la obra de Williams en Opening y en Ginny (basados en el maravilloso Hedwig’s Theme).

Otros tracks que me gustaron son los bien logrados In Noctem, una pieza coral que suena muy bien; Harry & Hermione, muy melancólica; Farewell Aragog, bellísima, acompañó la escena del funeral de Aragog; Slughorn’s Confession, simple pero emotiva; Journey to the Cave, cuyo segmento principal es una imponente fanfarria con coro utilizada en la ‘aparición’ de Dumbledore y Harry en la Cueva de los Inferi; y Dumbledore’s Farewell, sin duda el clímax del soundtrack, con un poderoso efecto (si no fuera por esta música la escena de la muerte de Albus hubiera sido un desastre).

Por último no quiero dejar de mencionar dos tracks que no aparecen en la película, pero sí en el cd: se trata de Wizard Wheezes (totalmente descolgado, casi un WTF?) y The Weasley Stomp, el cual ha sido una grata sorpresa.

Sirius Black–Sirius Black is a wizard who can transform into a large dog.

Minerva McGonagall–Minerva McGonagall is the Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts, this position implies that she is wise, perhaps not as wise as Dumbledore, but wise none-the-less.

Remus Lupin–Remus Lupin is one of James Potter’s best friends, he was also one of Harry’s Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher. He goes by the nickname Moony and is a werewolf. In the 7^th book he uses the pseudonym Romulus.

Remus was also one of the traditional founders of Rome. According to Roman Mythology, the twins, Remus and Romulus were raised by wolves before they founded Rome. Lupa (think the last name Lupin) is the Latin name for wolf.

Bellatrix Lestrange—A deatheater charged with torturing Mr. And Mrs. Longbottom

Draco Malfoy—Harry’s nemesis, belongs to Slytherine house and is given a mission by Voldemort.

La magia è cominciata e il finale si avvicina. Come di che sto parlando, ma dell’ultimo film di Harry Potter e il Principe Mezzosangue.

Babbani statemi a sentire che di chicche ce ne sono però non sono tutte positive.

Questa volta mi sento di dover criticare apertamente un film che poteva dare davvero molto di più, che poteva far uscire una trama avvincente invece si è basato troppo su fantasie e amori che nel libro non vengono trattati in maniera così aperta.

Prima di tutto dov’è finita tutta quella magia che c’era dietro al storia del PrincipeMezzosangue? Perché la storia che da il titolo al libro viene solo presa di striscio e non viene invece approfondita come si dovrebbe?

E poi Piton come fa ad uscire una figura semipositiva da questo film? La sua storia è rappresentata da mille sfaccettature e da mille stranezze non può essere sottovalutata in questo modo.

Non ci siamo questa volta la WB non ha fatto un buon lavoro sul testo..troppe frivolezze e pochi e appassionanti colpi di genio.

Si parla di passato di futuro ma non se ne capisce bene l’entità e quello che sarà…per esempio come scopre Silente la caverna dove Voldemort aveva nascosto uno degli Horcrux? Non si capisce vedendo il solo film.

Troppe cose alla fine del film mi hanno lasciata perplessa non posso elencarle perché sarebbe strano..mi limito solo a dire ditemi la vostra sul film e discutiamone insieme così da capire meglio.

Attendere l’ultimo per capire il sesto? forse è stata questa la strategia della Warner Bros anche se non ne sono sicurissima. La sceneggiatura purtroppo non è stata curata nel dettaglio e troppi sono i punti oscuri che uno spettatore medio si trova ad affrontare…e immaginate uno esperto!

Rimango dell’idea che la magia che scorre tra le pagine dei libri della saga non si può rendere al meglio…quelle notti passate attaccata alla sua storia rimarranno sempre appassionati..sono state i momenti di estraniazione dalla realtà migliori che io abbia vissuto negli ultimi anni.

Comunque una cosa c’è da dirla…gli effetti speciali sono sempre eccezionali!La magia del cinema in questo è superba.

Esta semana se estrena la sexta entrega del mago más famoso del mundo entero si a cine o libros nos referimos, ya que no debemos olvidar, que las aventuras del niño-adolescente mago que hemos visto en el cine son adaptaciones de libros que han batido records en cuanto a número de ventas se refiere.

La historia comenzó hace muchos años. Corría 1997 cuando J. K. Rowling publicaba el primer libro que hablaba de magia, de un colegio donde los niños podían recibir su educación, y donde se vislumbraba que habría una batalla enorme entre el bien y el mal, encarnados respectivamente en un niño que no sabia ni lo que pintaba en tal ancestral batalla y uno de los hombres más malvados que ha podido dar la literatura y por ende el cine, ya que la Warner no dejo pasar la posibilidad de llevar esta grandiosa historia al cine, que si bien al principio solo era para niños, según avanzabamos en el número de entregas, éstas se hacían más oscuras (como una buena batalla manda) y recibían clasificaciones de edad (algo totalmente comprensible, a partir del quinto libro, e incluso el cuarto si me apurais, no era para todos los públicos).

Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal

Y lo que me asombra de todo, es que esta mujer se limitó a coger unos cuantos cliches sobre magia (capas, gorros, encantamientos, varitas, escobas, duendes, trols, gigantes, situaciones, etc), algunas leyendas urbanas sobre la antigua alquimia, los entremezcló y tejió de una manera cuasiperfecta una una gran obra (tanto literal como cinematográficamente hablando) e hizo que multitud de personas se volcarán con el primer libro que vió la luz. En esta primera entrega, nos presentan a los personajes mas importantes que nos acompañaran durante las 7 entregas (en el caso del cine serán un total de 8 películas) de esta grandísima aventura. La peli se estrenó en 2001.

La primera peli, al igual que el libro, es demasiado infantil, no en vano la dirige Chris Columbus (también director de la segunda) y se nota su mano en multitud de escenas. Pero es más que obvio que esta película esta dirigida a entretener a los tiernos infantes (y no tan tiernos, o no tan infantes) y que se dejen deslumbrar por un mundo lleno de color y de magia, aunque vislumbremos la horrible muerte de los padres de Harry a manos del que será el enemigo más atroz al que se pueda enfrentar un niño en las posteriores secuelas.

Algo que se repite de forma constante en el resto de las pelis y en el que esta, como primera entrega no podía ser menos, es ese plano largo de los terrenos del Colegio Hogwarts de Magia y Hechicería. Si bien en el libro nos describen muchas veces el tiempo que hace, los alrededores, etc…. aqui de un plumazo (y nunca mejor dicho, ya que es a través de un vuelo de la blanca Hedwig) Columbus lo soluciona fácilmente.

No se si decir que la elección de actores/actrices para el elenco fue acertado o no. Yo la verdad, es que hoy por hoy, cuando releo los libros (no puedo evitarlo, son de mis favoritos), no me imagino a ninguna otra como Hermione, Harry o Ron, por no hablar de los profesores, que cumplen en esta primera entrega muchísimo mejor que los niños (pero es normal debido a su larga trayectoria). Una pena que Richard Harris nos dejara en la segunda entrega de esta saga, aunque su suplente (Michael Gambon) hiciera una papel estupendo en la tercera aventura. Maggie Smith esta estupenda como Minerva McGonagall, subdirectora de la escuela, profesora de transformaciones y jefa de la casa Gryffindorf, tan estirada ella, que aunque parece a la Srta. Rottenmeyer de Heidi, tiene muchísimas más humanidad por como trata a sus alumnos.

Y no hablar de la BSO que acompaña la película sería una herejía, ya que John Williams volvió a dejar su huella para la posteridad con el tema central de Harry Potter (aunque sin lugar a dudas, prefiero la BSO de la tercera, que ahora escucho tranquilamente mientras realizo el post).

En definitiva, un gran comienzo para la que será una de las mejores sagas (recordemos que son 8 películas) de fantasía que hayan disfrutado mis ojos (tanto en la pantalla grande como en letras impresas), porque no se trata de las aventuras y desventuras de un chaval que sabe hacer magia, sino una lucha constante entre el bien y el mal, donde cada personaje elegirá su bando tarde o temprano (aunque algunos esta mascado desde el principio), donde veremos (según avancemos en la historia de HP) las elecciones, buenas o malas, de muchos de sus protagonistas, y todo, para desembocar en una batalla final donde el mal nunca debería ganar, aunque por el camino se lleve a demasiada gente.

Harry Potter y La Cámara  Secreta

Y un año más tarde, y no debido al tirón de la peli precisamente, sino de su hermano mayor, los libros, nos llegó la segunda entrega. Todo el mundo repetía, desde los niños, hasta el director. Ha pasado un año desde que Harry supo que era mago, que podía hacer cosas increíbles y desde que se enfrentó a la sucia sombra del asesino de sus padres.

Aqui ya no nos introducirán a los personajes, ya los conocemos a casi todos. Asi que Columbus se limitará a describirnos lo que ocurre dentro del colegio. Pero en esta ocasión la labor del director es bastante mediocre, ya que habiendo realizado una buenísima primera parte, se queda a medias con esta segunda entrega.

Quizás no sea objetiva, ya que siempre fue mi libro favorito (al igual que el cuarto) y me faltó que pusieran muchas cosas y me sobraron otras que no tenían relevancia alguna. De todas formas, creo que dejó un vacio bastante grande (que gracias a los cielos, solventó de manera perfecta Alfonso Cuarón con la tercera parte). Creo que el basilisco y el fenix podían haber estado mucho mejor hechos (y más si utilizar a la omnipresente ILM en fx) que una simple serpiente y pájaro en avanzado estado de desnutrición. Creo que la pelea final pudo ser muchísimo mejor y que quitó cosas bastante fundamentales a la hora de que se desarrollara la parte final de la misma.

Sin embargo, si a alguien destacaría de todos los implicados en esta segunda parte,  y por tanto la única razón por la que suelo verla más de lo que admitiría, sería por Kenneth Branagh, actor-director….. jamás pensé que hubiera alguien que encarnara tan a la perfección al nuevo maestro de Defensa Contra las Artes Oscuras, Gilderoy Lockhart. Creo que brillante (siempre teniendo como fondo el libro en el que se describe) sería el adjetivo perfecto de este hombre inclasificable.

La BSO en esta ocasión no es para resaltarla tanto, siempre tenemos el tema de fondo, las súbidas en el punto álgido de la película y las bajadas en los momentos más cansinos de la misma, ya que si algo caracteriza a esta peli es de esos ritmos rápidos y pausados que se van alternando a lo largo de todo el film.

Volvemos a tener tópicos típicos en el mundo de la magia, como los elfos (aunque con una ligera variación), y la pena es que no lo hayan tenido más en cuenta para las siguientes entregas, ya que muchos sabreis el papel fundamental que desempeña esta raza en particular en el resto de películas.

Poco después de realizar esta segunda parte, Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore en este caso, aunque muchos lo recordarán como Un hombre llamado caballo y muchísimas otras películas) falleció, dejando un vacio que muchos pensamos que nadie podría llenar.

Harry Potter y El Prisionero de Azkaban

Siendo el libro que menos me gusta, es la mejor película que he visto de la saga hasta ahora (he de recordar que aún no se ha estrenado la sexta, por lo que quizás tenga que retractarme de estas primeras líneas, aunque lo dudo).

Cuarón dió un impulso a la saga. Era el momento de hacer avanzar a la historia, de hacer avanzar a los protagonistas, de hacerlos madurar, y por tanto también al film. Si bien, sigue teniendo elementos comunes a las anteriores entregas, aquí decide dar un paso más. Aquí el plano de los terrenos de Hogwats, los hace Harry montado en un magnífico hipogrifo, en lugar de la visión de la lechuza. Por primera vez sentimos lo que podría ser el miedo irracional frente a un dementor (meses y meses se tardó en hacer a ese ser terrible que consume la felicidad y la alegria de aquel que esté cerca), y hasta es capaz de ponernos la carne de gallina. Aunque también hay grandísimas escenas como la de Autobus Noctámbulo, en la que Cuarón decide meter algo de su cultura mexicana (todo un acierto) y darle su particular toque.

Si le añadimos la participación de Michael Gambon como el nuevo director del colegio, quizás hasta mas cercano a la descripción que da los libros sobre Dumbledore y la inigualable presencia que podría dar alguien como Gary Oldman haciendo de malo (aunque al final no lo sea), con esa cara de desquiciado fugado de la prisión de los magos, hace que aunque todas las películas de Harry Potter tengan un gran elenco en sus filas para presumir, ésta sea la que mejores resultados da (no podemos olvidarnos tampoco de Emma Thompson como la profesora de Adivinación Sybill Trelawney).

Como ya dije, para mi es la mejor película de toda la saga, no solo por las actuaciones de sus protagonistas (menos mal que los niños, ya empiezan a dejar de serlo y no sobreactuan tanto como en las anteriores), sino por esa banda sonora que hace que en cualquier momento oyendo sus notas, sepas perfectamente a que escena de la pelicula pertenece. Es más, creo que los dementores no hubieran sido nada, sino estuviesen acompañados de ese ritmo oscuro que es capaz de penetrar hasta el alma.

No me voy a dedicar a hablar de las paradojas que se crearían sobre el giratiempo del que se hace uso al final del film (y del libro), ya que no es lo que corresponde, pero mientras en el libro, esta parte se hace bastante cansina (a pesar de ser el final), en la peli se toma un ritmo más acelerado del que cabría esperar en un principio. Y aunque yo nunca me imaginé que el Patronus fuera como nos lo enseña Cuaron (a diferencia por ejemplo del hipogrifo), creo que al fin y al cabo cumple a la perfección la labor por la que es convocado, con esas ondas “magnéticas” que desprende de energía para ahuyentar a los dementores.

Pero sobre todo, lo mejor es la moraleja que podemos sacar de esta tercera entrega. Lo que uno más debe temer, es el miedo en si, porque es ese miedo al propio miedo el que nos paraliza, el que no nos deja avanzar. Eso sin contar con la constante que se repite a lo largo de todas las películas y que tendrá mucho más énfasis en las siguientes entregas, el valor de la amistad, el valor del perdón.

Como curiosidades (solo unas poquitas, las más llamativas) de todas estas aventuras decir que a J. K. Rowling le debe encantar el latin, porque tanto los nombres (Albus, Severus, Lucius, Sirius, Remus……) de los profesores, o de los personajes de más edad proceden del latín, al igual que casi todos los embrujos, hechizos y/o encantamientos.

También es sabido, que a Richard Harris le ofrecieron varias veces el papel del director del colegio y lo rechazó, hasta que su nieta se enteró y puso la voz en el cielo y no tuvo más remedio que aceptarlo. Lo mismo pasó con Columbus y las 2 entregas que dirigió, ya que no quería hacerlas hasta que se enteraron sus hijos.

En la primera entrega, cada vez que se hablaba sobre “La Piedra Filosofal”, se tenía que repetir las escenas, porque en EEUU (si es que son muy raritos estos americanos), se conoce como “La Piedra del Hechicero”.

Lord Voldemort procede del francés Vol de mort, que es “ladrón de muertos”, mas o menos, “ladrón de la mortalidad”, asi que todo tiene su sentido.

Pinchando aqui, el segundo especial de Harry Potter, que contará con la sexta aventura del niño mago, ya que esto sino podría hacerse eterno.

Only recently did I start naming characters by what names fit their characteristics. I actually just revamped my novel again and I renamed two of my characters. Rusa became Justin and Iden became Corlissa. Maybe I should rename “Corlissa” again, as the entire purpose of the renaming was to give them more normal names. Speaking of which…

Give characters names that fit their heritage. Angels, demons, and insect-people aren’t going to be named the same way as humans are. One thing I found that worked was giving characters names that sound like they’re exotic. Think like a poet would in choosing words for their poems. Rough-sounding names go to rough characters, smooth names go to calm ones.

I liked the naming technique that J.K. Rowling used for her characters. Remus Lupin was a nice example. Now, Lupin is a werewolf in Harry Potter and his name reflects that. Romulus and Remus were the mythological founders of Rome. They were raised by wolves. Lupine is the scientific name for a wolf. Both are significant to the character.

There’s also another thing I’d like to bring up: You can hint as to a character’s nature in their name. For readers of Harry Potter who had a background in Roman mythology or in science, it was probably easy to guess that Lupin had history with wolves. Of course, you could always use naming to the opposite effect by using a red herring.

Don’t name your character something like Xaminriaks. T’ry no’t to na’me l’ike thi’s, e’ither. Go for a smoother sound. Your readers will thank you.

Nos livros da série Southern Vampires Mysteries, da escritora Charlaine Harris, os vampiros “saem do armário” depois que os japoneses inventam um sangue sintético. Este momento é chamado de A Grande Revelação e a trama principal passa a ser então a adaptação da sociedade humana à presença dos vampiros e a adaptação dos vampiros à vida pública.

Sempre me lembro do primeiro filme dos X-Men neste caso. E, um pouco mais para trás, quando os primeiros portadores do vírus HIV também puderam se identificar.

No novo livro das aventuras da garçonete telepata Sookie Stackhouse [...] a partir deste ponto há spoilers para quem não leu Dead and Gone – avisado esteja.

[...] os lobisomens e animorfos também saem a público. Harris aproveita para debater a reação popular mais a fundo. Em um trecho do livro, ela se pergunta se a sociedade aceitaria melhor essa segunda Grande Revelação se algumas celebridades de Hollywood admitissem publicamente que têm um problema cabeludo uma vez por mês.

Ei, J. K. Rowling chegou a abordar essa questão com o personagem Remus Lupin, lembra?

São tempos modernos esses em que uma celebridade é considerada modelo de comportamento, bem diferente de quando mesmo as grandes estrelas de cinema precisam esconder sua homossexualidade, por exemplo, para não ser crucificada pela opinião pública.

Unas entradas y una flor

Tengo varias novedades que contar. La primera es que por primera vez me han regalado una flor por Sant Jordi. Es una rosa roja; nos la regaló Jordi, que es de Andorra. Se trata de un especimen curioso: cuando me la dio después de comer no era más que un capullo que luchaba por abrirse. Horas después, estaba así. Ya podían madurar todos tan rápido como ella. Por ejemplo los que me quitan las moscas de papel de la puerta o el cartel de rojo y verde.

En esta historia también hay libro. Por fin, la inspiración ha llamado a mi puerta sin mosca y sin cartel y yo la he recibido con los brazos abiertos. Se me ha ocurrido una idea muy buena para una novela, pero desgraciadamente aún no me puedo poner a escribir porque antes tengo que documentarme un poco. No puedo adelantar nada, sólo diré que el protagonista es un chico (aunque parezca increíble, porque mis historias suelen estar protagonizadas por chicas inocentes que al final se rebelan de algún modo) entrado en años (unos 30), con esa personalidad dual que tanto me gusta de bueno-pero-malo: la personalidad de Remus Lupin, Pepe Carvalho, Horacio Oliveira y el coronel Aureliano Buendía, entre muchos otros. La de malo-pero-bueno (Christian, Jack Sparrow, James Potter, el Fantasma…) me apasiona mucho más, pero aún no estoy capacitada para crear un personaje así. Seguramente estará ambientada en la Alemania de la Segunda Guerra Mundial o bien en la Revolución Rusa (por eso tengo que documentarme y planearlo todo muy bien). Ya he pensado el nombre, se llamará Hugo Valenty (sus orígenes están por confirmar, pero seguramente sea argentino con antepasados italianos). Se me ocurrió la idea en clase de Traducción, cuando la profesora habló de casos de conflictos por traducir ciertos textos (ya van asesinados dos traductores de “Los versos satánicos” de Salman Rushdie). Seguramente mi novela, si sale adelante, tenga que ver con eso.

Las entradas que se ven en la foto son para invitar a un amigo a la fiesta de la residencia. Es este jueves en el Patio de las Escuelas. Tengo el vestido pero me faltan los zapatos, y no sé cuándo los voy a comprar porque el jueves por la mañana tengo clase y por la tarde vamos a comprar un regalo a una amiga.

Y sigo esperando por el cómic de Memorias de Idhún… ¬¬ Se supone que sale en mayo, pero en la página de Laura Gallego pone que aún están revisando el primer tomo. Yo lo quiero ya!!! Mientras, encontraré consuelo en las canciones de un disco viejo de Estopa, cuyas letras a lo Sabina me siguen pareciendo preciosas:

“Te veo con los ojos cerrados, te sueño con los ojos abiertos; subo al cielo con cien mil pecados y rezo para bajar al infierno”

I haven’t written fanfiction in over a year so it was fun to go back over these stories. These are hosted at FanFiction.net, and since the site has evolved muchly since I first started posting there, you may notice a lot of formatting glitches. Someday I will go back into the actual site and change them.

Most of these are about CSI: Crime Scene Investigation characters Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle, or Harry Potter characters Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks. So, yes, there is romance afoot in these pages… but there is also lots of humor, as well as some drama, adventure, and a bit of “angst.” I hope you enjoy them!

You may also find many of these stories hosted at various fan pages, groups, archives, etc.  I don’t mind if you archive them, but please send me a link.
