En este lado del gabacho abundan los dimes y diretes en los tabloides de espectáculos, donde los rumores producen la curiosidad desmedida de los lectores y fanáticos…ahora resulta que Jennifer Aniston podría adoptar un bebé…¿mexicano?.

Y yo me quedé boquiabierta, porque no lo podía creer…se sabe que los artistas tienen una fascinación enorme por lo exótico (lease claramente que entre esos especímenes raros entramos casualmente los latinos), y de plano me puse a investigar.

Resulta que años atrás comenzaron la dulce Jen y el simpatetico azota-motos Brad Pitt (cuando todavía eran felices), a donar dinero para el orfanato de niños ubicado en una de las zonas más empobrecidas de Tijuana, B.C. llamada “Casa Hogar Sión”, y que en cierta manera, es una manera de quedar “unidos”, si es que la actriz decide dar el gran paso a la matenidad adquirida.

“Jen ha estado otorgando dinero al orfanatorio por años, al igual que lo ha hecho su ex Brad, y el adoptar un bebé de ahí tiene sentido…Ella y Brad nunca estarán juntos, ella sabe eso, pero esta conexión a través del bebé vivirá, sin importar que Brad y Angelina Jolie no podrán nunca escapar de eso”.

Resulta que Jennifer Aniston les cayo de sorpresa (vaya, que discretita es la mujer…sí que tiene clase, caray), que hasta la directora y fundadora del orfanato se quedó con el ojo literalmente cuadrado al verla entrar al lugar, afirmando que “Ella estuvo con todos los niños, pero pasó más tiempo con los bebés. Los ama. Ella permaneció en el área de maternidad por mucho tiempo, jugando con ellos y abrazándolos”.

Sabemos perfectamente que Jennifer Aniston es una de las mejores pagadas en la industria cinematográfica, cobrando entre 20 y 30 milloncitos por chambita (zas, que barato), pero que a sus 40 primaveras, no ha dado una en cuestiones de amores, ya que sus últimos galanes la han cortado ó cambiado por otra (recordemos que Angelina le bajo a Brad, y Renee Zellweger a…¿cómo se llama?, tan importante galancete que ni nos aprendemos su nombre…da igual).

Total que una fuente aseguraba lo siguiente:

“Como una muy famosa pero nerviosa futura mamá, Jennifer Aniston estaba desesperada de que su visita se mantuviera encubierta y se le pidió al orfanatorio mexicano mantener el secreto”.
Aniston, salió tras un par de horas sollozando del orfanatorio, con la promesa de que regresaría a llevarse a uno de los bebés…”Esto es lo que ella siempre ha deseado, un bebé y ahora está a punto de hacerse realidad”, precisó la fuente. “Ella no va a dejar que nadie se interponga en el camino de su sueño”.

Dulce Jen, mientras ella desea las mieles de la maternidad a falta de galán de planta, siempre seguirá reafirmando su profunda teoría: “Quien crea que el amor es para siempre, está en un error”.

Alright Squinty, I’ve had enough.  For months, I’ve had to put up with your scraggly, workout-looking, roots-showing hair.  COTS has standards, you know.  Your clothes are great, it’s not your fashion style that’s at fault, it’s a lack of interest in anything over the hairline that’s a problem.  Having a little trouble with growth?  Everyone gets extensions, it’s nothing to be ashamed of.  Volume issues?  I think you can find a hair stylist or twelve to help.  But please, stop walking the red carpet with the hair of a tween who rolled out of bed.  What’s tolerable at 13 is nowhere near right for 40.  No matter what Bradley tells you.

Boo!  Renee looks absolutely shocked that she’s being spotted by a photog.  She’s only been famous for 20 years so of course she hasn’t had time to get used to being photographed.  That must also be the explanation for why she’s dressed in workout gear while strolling around.  Because she’d never expect anyone to recognize her, let alone take her picture!  Studley seems to be the only one in on the joke.  Hopefully, the joke’s not on Renee.

Three looks composed of three strange dresses, three neutral shoes, three awkward poses and one very poor choice in hair.  Why on earth would go through the trouble of getting dressed up only to leave your hair with the roots all exposed and in a gym-workout ponytail?  Is it such a hardship to sit in a chair, in your luxury hotel suite, and have someone fix up your roots and actually comb your hair?  Because there are millions who are willing to take your place and put up with that torture.

Fiebre de poder….resulta que medio en broma y medio en serio, Britney Spears apareció en el programa de David Letterman ataviada en traje de baño de dos piezas en color negro y con una margarita roja en el cabello para presentar sus diez propuestas electorales si ella fuera presidenta. Las aparición de la cantante fue a través de un video grabado donde hizo 10 propuestas que arrancaron la carcajada de los ahí presentes y provocó una lluvia de aplausos. Spears, quien recientemente mostró que aún posee una figura impactante, se dio la oportunidad de dar un punto de vista político, eso sí, con un gran toque de comedia que no podía faltar en el show. David Letterman le preguntó a Britney qué sería diferente si ella fuera presidenta, a lo que la cantante enumeró una serie de hilarantes propuestas, que no sacarían al país de la crisis, pero lo pondrían de buen humor.

Pobre Jen, le volvieron a quitar el galán….Jennifer Aniston se siente traicionada por Bradley Cooper, después de que se rumoró que la pareja sostenía un romance y ahora el actor se encuentra saliendo con Renée Zellweger, según reporta la revista US Magazine. Un amigo de Aniston dijo a la revista que la actriz quería tener una relación seria con Cooper, pero él “no estaba tan interesado”. “Ella quería que sus citas con Cooper fueran más serias, ella se siente honestamente traicionada”, reveló la fuente. Jennifer y Bradley, quienes participaron en la película He’s not that into you, fueron vistos en una cena romántica en el restaurante Il Cantinori de la ciudad de Nueva York, pero unas semanas después el actor comenzó a salir con Zellweger. El amigo cercano de Jennifer aseguró que la actriz no sabe “qué tiene Renée que ella no tiene”. De inmediato, los amigos de Zellweger salieron en su defensa y explicaron el porqué de la elección de Bradley Cooper: “Ella sólo se inmiscuye en sus asuntos, tiene a sus amigos, su vida y es bastante agradable. Reality mortal….Ryan Jenkins, concursante de un programa de realidad simulada sospechoso de homicidio, fue encontrado muerto el domingo en un motel de la Columbia Británica aparentemente por propia mano, indicó la policía. El sargento Duncan Pound, de la unidad de integridad fronteriza de la Real Policía Montada, dijo que la policía respondió a una llamada sobre una persona muerta en Hope, al este de Vancouver, y luego llamó a los investigadores que buscaban a Jenkins. El cadáver tenía una soga al cuello. Miss Aburrimiento…Con un final feliz para las latinas, el conocido certámen de Miss Universo 2009 tuvo más pena que gloria, debido a la austeridad del evento (se nota perfecto que a Donald Trump no le ha sentado nada bien la bancarrota, reflejada en el concurso), donde los grandes escenarios para las reinas de todo el mundo terminó realizandose en un salón de convenciones de las Bahamas: los jueces inclinados hacia las europeas como Republica Checa, Suiza, Suecia, Kosovo, Francia y Albania, dejando avanzar de panzaso (y raspadísimas por cierto) a Republica Dominicana, Venezuela y Puerto Rico, siendo al final las favoritas del evento, y donde Venezuela rompió record por segundo año consecutivo en ganar la corona de la belleza. El implacable jurado estuvo conformado por: el actor Dean Cain, el asesor de imágen de grandes celebridades Colin Cowie, el productor y compositor musical Gerry DeVeaux, el estilista Farouk Sham, el hotelero Heather Kerzner, el entrenador deportivo George Maloof Jr, la modelo internacional Valeria Mazza, el fotógrafo Matthew Rolston, el escritor y editor Andre Leon Talley, la actriz Tamara Tunie y la asesora de moda Keisha Whitaker. Con unos números musicales chafísimos como Heidi Montag, la rubia sexy-tonta de “The hills” y su “Body languaje”, que más parecía un grito de auxilio ante su falta de coordinación al bailar, siendo el mega oso televisivo de la noche…aunque la aparición de el rapero Flo rida y Kelly Rowland (ex- Destiny´s Child) le pusieron salero al evento; buen trabajo de las latinas que donde van la arman en grande, tumbando a las gueras insípidas y destalentadas.

En cine, “Inglorious basterds”: si los nazis hubieran perdido la Segunda Guerra Mundial antes de tiempo, el resultado habría sido parecido a esta película en cinco capítulos de Quentin Tarantino. Brad Pitt encabeza el elenco, como un teniente renegado al mando de un escuadrón de soldados judíos estadounidenses dispuestos a humillar a sus enemigos.

Bueno, el recuento seguirá la próxima semana…

Of course, this is not a judgment on the dress (love, very Mad Men) or the bag (love, very Posh) but seriously, it looks like her tiny knees can barely hold her up and her wrist is going to snap from the sheer exertion of carrying the bag.  I’m actually glad to hear that she’s going to be getting back to donuts and burgers for the third Bridget Jones movie because the girl needs some fat cells.  It’s going to be winter soon.

A Film Review

In the past century all those seeking simple but effective entertainment in films were usually served best by the Western genre. The basics of such simple but effective entertainment are today provided by semi-nostalgic films like APPALOOSA, 2008 Western directed by Ed Harris.

The plot, based on the novel by Robert K. Parker, is set in Appaloosa, small mining town in 1882 New Mexico. Ed Harris plays Virgil Cole, experienced lawman who, together with his best friend and film’s narrator Everett Hitch (played by Viggo Mortensen), made good reputation by cleaning wild Western towns from criminals. Town of Appaloosa has serious problem of that nature in the form of Randall Bragg (played by Jeremy Irons), wealthy rancher whose cowboys terrorise, rape and murder the townsfolk. After town’s marshall and his deputy die while trying to arrest Bragg’s men, city business leaders hire Cole and Hitch to deal with that problem. They quickly establish some sort of law and order, but their mission and friendship is challenged with an arrival of attractive female pianist Allison French (played by Renee Zellweger).

For most part, APPALOOSA is employing all the ingredients of classic Western formula -  barren landscapes that underline the characters and their strict separation between the Good and Evil, as well as proper blend of action, melodrama and humour. One of the examples of latter  is provided by Cole’s lack of proper education and his inability to employ “important” words, which brings well-educated Hitch to rescue. The acting in this film is superb – Harris and Mortensen play their characters with great deal of ease, while Irons can’t hide his enthusiasm in playing villain quite uncharacteristic for his career. Renee Zelwegger is also very good, by providing aura of mystery and charm to character that proves rather unusual for Western. Supporting players are adding much to the film. mainlčy almost unrecognisable Lance Henriksen in small role that would otherwise be cliche.

Very good impression of APPALOOSA is spoiled in the moment the film appears to be ending. The script adds unusual plot twists that prolong film’s resolution for at least half hour, thus revealing many of  its flaws. The last segment of APPALOOSA looks overlong, allowing the audience to notice many missed opportunities, mainly those dealing with social and political context of the plot; that context was probably explored in Parker’s novel but Harris (who also co-wrote script with Robert Knott) chose more classical, “purist” and non-revisionist Western approach. Despite that, APPALOOSA serves its general purpose by providing audience with old-fashioned but simple and effective entertainment.

RATING: 6/10

Sometimes, things start at the end, so to speak.  So who is our new mystery couple Blonde and Blonder?  Which lady is sporting the very latest in high end trampy footwear next her man who’s keeping it cas?

Studley and Squinty are starting things off Euro-style with a little “getting to know you time” in Espana.  Is this a late summer fling or something with a “relationship” potential?  If their track records are any indication, this may last until their next root’s touchup.

DISCLAIMER: Pay no attention to the voices in your head that may have told you this was going to be a definitive — or even vaguely highbrow — list of actresses who seem right for every role. These voices, which may have some really good ideas sometimes, will steer you wrong here in a blog where the author ranks both “Young Frankenstein” and “Apocalypse Now” in the Greatest Movies Ever Made category.

Yeesh. Glad we got that out of the way. Now I’ll forge ahead to part two of my list, a tribute to the actresses who seem to make every character their own. Frances McDormand, of course, is our starter — and not just because Ebert said so. She’s a Coen brothers staple (she’s, uh, married to Joel), but she’s had an outstanding career outside Coenland that includes Oscar nods for drama parts (“North Country,” “Mississippi Burning”) and coming-of-age tales (“Almost Famous”). Whatever she does, she does well, and that makes her seem like a great new discovery every time I see her.

And the remaining nine actresses are:

• Amy Adams — Amy, Amy, Amy. My love for Amy dates back to “Junebug,” when she proved a bubbly chatterbox could have depth. Then again, she gives depth to all her distinctive characters, from the serious bit parts (“Charlie Wilson’s War”) to fairy tale musicals (“Enchanted”) to smart-dumb comedies (“Talladega Nights”). She just can’t keep her darn light hidden.
• Penélope Cruz — When Almodovar introduced Cruz in “Todo Sobre Mi Madre,” the world fell in love, and so did I. Inevitably she got thrust into numerous romantic comedies, but then she dared to go off the grid, take serious roles (i.e., “Elegy”) and, in “Blow” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” shred the notion that she was just some Spanish Sandra Bullock. 
• Maggie Gyllenhaal — There’s just something about Gyllenhaal. It’s not that she oozes sexuality (she does) or that she’s possessed of a strange otherworldly kind of beauty (she is). No, I think it’s that she’s willing to get naked, physically and emotionally, to find her characters. From mainstream parts (“World Trade Center,” “Dark Knight”) to the really bold stuff (“Secretary,” “Sherrybaby”), she goes all in every time.
• Milla Jovovich — I’ll catch hell for including a supermodel here, and I know it. So Jovovich started off as a hot action starlet and not an Oscar contender – what of it? She’s got real acting chops (she lit up the screen in “Dummy” and “You Stupid Man”) and she’s not afraid to take on parts that are fun and funny and action-oriented. Laugh if you must, but Milla’s more than a pretty face.
• Queen Latifah — Enter controversial choice No. 2. You may be tempted to think I chose her to fill some sort of racial quota. As if. Dana Owens ended up here because she deserves to be. Here is an actress who has spent too long making terrible movies bearable (“Bringing Down the House”) and too long playing sidekicks (“Stranger Than Fiction”). Give her a lead in something like “Last Holiday,” “Chicago” or ”Set It Off” and she’ll surprise you. She’s got versatility, and it’s about time Hollywood gave her more opportunities to show it.
• Laura Linney — Linney’s the best actress who will never win an Oscar. Why? She’s too good at being plain people, and plain people rarely get gold statues. Still, that hardly means this versatile actress plays one character over and over. She does something a little different every time, sometimes stepping out of the indie box (“Breach,” “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”). She’s one to watch.
• Kate Winslet — Kate Winslet’s the silver screen equivalent of a extreme athlete. She’s totally unafraid to take chances, consistently picking parts that involve emotional or physical nudity. As a result, she’s done erotica, fantasy (“Heavenly Creatures,” her big break), literary adaptations (the best was “Little Children”) and everything in-between. She’s just astounding, pure and simple.
• Renee Zellwegger — This cherubic Texan has picked some doozies in her career (re: “New in Town”), but she always rises above the most derivative scripts. Bonus: She’s fearless in the face of the unknown, be it musicals or Civil War-era fare, and she attacks every part with enthusiasm. There’s a lot to be said for enthusiasm when it’s backed by real talent.

Arrancamos con las estrellas femeninas mejor pagadas de la industria Hollywoodense.

Angelina Jolie y Jennifer Aniston son las dos actrices estadounidenses mejor pagadas por Hollywood pues, según informó la revista Forbes, ganaron en el último año $27 y $25 millones, respectivamente.

Angelina Jolie es la actriz con mayores ingresos en Hollywood, tras ganar 27 millones de dólares el año pasado, superando a la ex esposa de su compañero sentimental Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, quien logró 25 millones, según reveló el miércoles un estudio de Forbes.com.

La mayor parte de los ingresos de Jolie provienen de su porción de las ganancias de su película de acción “Wanted”, pero también recibió una gran suma por adelantado por su papel en “Salt”, señaló el estudio.

Aniston, obtuvo la mayor parte de sus ingresos por la comedia romántica “Marley and Me” y su próxima cinta “The Baster”. “Aniston todavía recibe dinero de Friends (repeticiones de las series de televisión) y un bonito cheque por la serie Glaceau’s SmartWater”, explicó Forbes.com.

Meryl Streep quedó en tercer lugar con 24 millones de dólares, principalmente de su papel en “Mamma Mia”, mientras que Sarah Jessica Parker quedó cuarta con 23 millones de dólares en ganancias por la versión cinematográfica de la serie de televisión “Sex and the City”.

Cameron Diaz quedó en quinto puesto, con 20 millones de dólares en ganancias entre junio del 2008 y junio del 2009.

Forbes.com señaló que habló con agentes, representantes, productores y abogados para averiguar qué actrices recibieron adelantos por películas que están actualmente rodando y que pago pudieron haber recibido luego de que un filme llegara a los cines. El dinero recibido por líneas de perfumes o vestuario también fue tomado en cuenta. “Como sigue siendo típico en Hollywood, nuestras actrices ganaron significativamente menos que sus contrapartes masculinas”, señaló Forbes.com, destacando que el actor con más ingresos, Harrison Ford, logró 65 millones de dólares.

A continuación aparecen en la lista de la publicación Sandra Bullock, de 44 años y $15 millones en ganancias, la misma cantidad que Reese Witherspoon, de 33.

Nicole Kidman, de 42, y Drew Barrymore, de 34, ganaron respectivamente el último año $12 millones con sus
películas, mientras que René Zellweger, 40, ganó $10 millones.

La australiana Cate Blanchett, de 40, obtuvo $11 millones con sus actuaciones, mientras que las estadounidenses Anne Hathaway, de 26, y Halle Berry, de 42, incorporaron $7 millones, respectivamente, a sus cuentas bancarias.

Scarlett Johansson, de 24, y Kate Winslet, de 33, ganaron con sus películas $5.5 y $2 millones, respectivamente.

La fiebre latina por pisar escenarios profesionales siempre brinda sorpresas; ahora resulta que Sofía Vergara debutará en Broadway en abril, cuando asuma el papel de la Matrona “Mama” Morton en el musical “Chicago”, se anunció el jueves.

La estrella colombiana se presentará del 27 de abril al 24 de mayo en el Ambassador Theatre de la calle 49, antes de partir a Miami para encabezar una gira nacional de “Chicago” en el Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, del 26 al 31 de mayo. Y volverá por una semana más a la Meca del teatro, para repetir el papel del 1 al 7 de junio.

Chicago está inspirada en hechos reales: los sensacionalistas juicios de Cook County, plasmados en 1925 en una obra por un periodista de juzgados del Chicago Tribune. Esta historia de asesinatos y manipulaciones mediáticas cosechó buenas críticas y dio lugar a dos versiones cinematográficas posteriores.

En 1975, la historia se convirtió por primera vez en musical. La versión original de Chicago -creada por John Kander, Fred Ebb y Bob Fosse- fue un gran éxito en Broadway: sus canciones y coreografías hicieron de ella un clásico del género.

CHICAGO es una de las comedias musicales más populares, emocionantes y supertaquilleras de Broadway. Ganadora de 6 Premios Tony, es una historia electrizante sobre avaricia, asesinato y el mundo del espectáculo, llena de canciones de gran éxito, tales como : “All That Jazz” y “Razzle Dazzle”. Y, CHICAGO ofrece algunos de los mejores espectáculos de baile presentados en Broadway, con un magnífico conjunto que lleva a cabo fabulosos bailes coreografiados en el estilo de Bob Fosse. Por algo The New York Times la llama“ la mejor comedia musical que se presenta en la ciudad”.

Recordemos que esta obra ha sido representada por numerosas estrellas que siempre nos han deleitado dejando un buen sabor de boca…

Incluso fue llevada a la pantalla grande, con actores de talla internacional, como Reneé Zellwegger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere y Queen Latifah.

Al ser entrevistada en febrero respecto a su posible debut en las tablas neoyorquinas, Vergara dijo: “Es la primera vez (que trabajaría en Broadway) y es un rol muy difícil porque es bailar, actuar y cantar al mismo tiempo y en vivo. Estoy un poquito asustada… vamos a ver qué pasa”.
Recordemos que la Vergara tiene en su currículum participaciones tanto en tv latina y anglosajona, incluyendo producciones hollywoodenses, pero aun no ha encontrado aquella que le provea de la fama y proyección internacional.

With the release of one my colleagues, Brandon Fibbs, ABSOLUTELY favorite movie of the year, “(500) Days of Summer,” we take a look at our 21 Favorite Romantic Films.

While several films on this list wouldn’t be considered your typical romantic Hollywood fare, what they all have in common is at least one central character that feels so good loving their “somebody while that somebody is loving them back.”

We considered hundreds of films but thought it best to keep the focus within the past 25 years. While love was the primary theme, the films that ultimately were selected were films that either made us feel warm and fuzzy (among other feelings). Notable films that we struggled with but ultimately passed included “Brokeback Mountain,” “Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” “Wall-E,” When Harry Met Sally,” “When Stella Got Her Groove Back” and “Moulin Rouge.”

Without further ado, and in no particular order, here is our 21 Favorite Romantic Films.

Love Jones | 1991
From the opening strains of Theodore Witcher’s intelligent ode to love you have a feeling that something special is about to unfold – and you would be correct. Anchored by the amazing chemistry between Nia Long and Larenz Tate, “Love Jones” is an instant cult classic that lets us in as this handsome couple woo, fight and ultimately makeup under the gritty lights in Chicago. The film examines love among a group of young urbanites but it is this “brother of the night’s” signature line, “Let me tell you somethin’. This here, right now, at this very moment, is all that matters to me. I love you. That’s urgent like a motherf***er,” that gives the film it’s powerful center.

Titanic | 1997
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet radiated sensuality as a pair of young lovers aboard the doomed liner. While the sinking of the ship may have been the primary story, the romance between these two is largely what people remember about this film – along with Celine Dion’s theme. These two were so good together that they would reconnect a decade later in “Revolutionary Road.”

Love Actually | 2003
This collection of interconnected stories about a group of people falling in love was a warm tender Valentine to holiday moviegoers. The film showed several stages of love including unrequited between a supervisor and his assistant as well as a young boy and an attractive classmate. Our personal favorite was the author and his maid. But the film’s best story was between an author and his language-challenged maid. Guaranteed to leave your heart aflutter!

The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind | 2004
This tender story of a man who has his memory erased to lose memories of a lost love – but keeps finding her, is an amazingly creative premise that works because of the fine work of Jim Carrey and Winslet. Directed with a flourish by Michel Gondry, Carrey is a lost soul who is magnetically attracted to the oblivious Winslet like a moth to a white-hot flame. Never has the phrase, “love conqueror all,” been more applicable.

The American President | 1995
Long before he developed one of the most acclaimed series on TV, “The West Wing,” Aaron Sorkin’s tale of an unmarried President Andrew Shepherd (Michael Douglas) who falls in love with a political operative, Sidney Wade (Annette Bening) may be highly unlikely but there’s no denying that these two definitely won the popular vote.

Jerry Maguire | 1996
In addition to giving us the classic line, “You had me at hello,” Cameron Crowe’s story of a renegade sports agent and his assistant (Renee Zellwegger) who slowly fall in love is another tender, funny story that also benefits from another solid supporting love affair between Regina King and Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. While Crowe’s tale showed us the money, his living room confession of love got him the honey!

Pretty Woman | 1990
On paper, this story of an out-of-town executive who pays a prostitute to be his companion on a business trip is nothing special. Add Richard Gere and an emerging actress with billion dollar smile, Julia Roberts and you have a phenomenon. The chemistry between the two was so special that even a lackluster script couldn’t keep this film from being a hit. The two later reunited in “The Runaway Bride,” but couldn’t duplicate the magic of this film.

Dirty Dancing | 1987
Patrick Swayze became a household name as sexy dancer Johnny Castle who woos “Baby” (Jennifer Grey) in this late-80s dance hit. Women loved looking at Swayze who would hit the jackpot several years later in “Ghost.” For fans of this movie, we all had the time of our lives watching this story. One thing for sure after that explosive, energetic finale, indeed NOBODY puts Baby in a corner!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button | 2008
This magical story of a man who finds the love of life as child – while aging in reverse was timeless, sad yet inspirational, simultaneously. What makes the story so interesting was the two lovers (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) who enjoy the pinnacle of their relationship when they meet in the middle of their lives. Film shows that love truly is timeless and never, ever dies!

Bull Durham | 1988
One of the few sports movies to make the list find a love triangle between a young cocky pitcher Ebby Calvin “Nuke” LaLoosh (Tim Robbins), a veteran minor league catcher, Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) and baseball seductress, Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) who takes the pitcher under her wing only to fall in love with Davis. This film features something for everyone, sports for the guys, love for the ladies – and Sarandon who met her husband, Robbins while making this film.

Say Anything | 1989
Crowe strikes again with this loving story of an underachiever who falls in love with a beautiful valedictorian the summer before she goes off to college. John Cusack radiates an everyman quality and he has never been as vulnerable as he was in this film. Who can forget the famous scene when he tries to woo his love while holding a boom-box over his head to win her heart. Forbidden love has never be as sexy as it is here.

Love and Basketball | 2000
No woman is more identified with African-American romantic comedies as sexy actress Sanaa Lathan. In this film, she teams with Omar Epps in a titanic struggle for his heart. The two lovers grow up together, remain close but she is slow to discover her true feelings for him. The film climatic scene where the two play a one-on-game for their relationship is one of cinemas most heart-wrenching moments. For sure, all is fair in love and basketball!

Lust, Caution | 2007
This politically charged film featuring a group of students trying to assassinate a high-ranking secret agent backfires when a young woman (Tang Wei) falls for her target, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. In our review we wrote that this highly-charged erotic tale was so hot, it should be watched with a condom. While Wei and Chiu-Wai may have not made not have really done “the beast with two backs,” director Ang Lee’s steamy, NC-17 rated political drama also had a damn powerful story to match.

Notting Hill | 1999
Everything about this film contributed to it’s tremendous success and cult-like appeal as a real-life A-lister Julia Roberts plays . . . A-lister Anna Scott who falls for a local travel book store owner in “Notting Hill.” Trying to make a film in London, Scott must battle the paparazzi as she begins a relationship with the ordinary William Thacker (Hugh Grant). By the time, Scott utters the film’s signature line, “I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her,” and Elvis Costello croons “She,” a feeling of love will wash over you like a wave in the ocean . . . and passionately swallows you up!

Bridges of Madison County | 1995
Who would think one of Hollywood’s toughest actors, Clint Eastwood could direct and star in such an engaging love story. Playing a National Geographic who falls for a married woman (Meryl Streep) in the 1960s. At the end of the film, Eastwood stands in the middle of the road in the pouring rain almost telepathically begging for Streep to come to him. You see her hand on the move to the door latch and release as Eastwood drives away forever. There was not a dry eye in the theater as Streep delivers the film’s killer line, “this kind of certainty comes once in a lifetime! WOW!!!

Mr. and Mrs. Smith | 2005
This clash of the beautiful people, Angelina Jolie and Pitt, who secretly are rival spies resulted in winning chemistry, a hot kick-a** film AND a real-life love affair. It’s almost like we’re watching the two of them in the throes of the beginning of their love affair during the making this film. Of course, Pitt left his long-time love, Jennifer Aniston for his sultry leading lady at the conclusion of this film. The rest, as they say, is history!!!

Forrest Gump | 1994
Tom Hanks won his second Oscar in a row for his portrayal of a man of few words who LOVES his Jenny (Robin Wright-Penn) in “Forrest Gump. While Gump narrates his story that finds him involved in several notable real-life events, through it all his love for Jenny never diminishes. While “life was like a box of chocolates,” we always knew what Forrest would get with Jenny – the eternal love of his life!

Ghost | 1994
When Sam (Swayze) is brutally murdered, he summons a phony clairvoyant (Whoopi Goldberg) to help him reconnect to his long-lost love, Molly (Demi Moore). Who ever thought making pottery could be sexy? It’s amazing what could happen over the strands of The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody.” Along with “Dirty Dancing,” Swayze would surely be in the Romance Hall of Fame – if one existed. Not only does true love never die but you take it with you!

Brown Sugar | 2002
Using hip-hop as a backdrop, director Rick Famuyiwa’s tale of two friends who grow up and fall in love is intelligent, funny and insightful. It also doesn’t hurt that if features the queen of Black romantic comedies, Lathan and handsome leading man, Taye Diggs. One of the first movies filmed in New York after 9/11, the winning chemistry between Lathan and Diggs is largely responsible for the success of this “sugary” tale where Lathan ended up with “the buddy AND the booty!”

Mississippi Masala | 1991
It’s surprising that an actor as handsome as Denzel Washington has strayed away from many leading romantic characters but in “Mississippi Masala,” Washington was in full effect as a local carpet cleaner who falls for a sexy young Indian woman (Sarita Choudhury) whose family is from Uganda. When their union is discovered, their respective families go crazy, proving that racial politics are not always Black/White. Washington and Choudhury make an attractive couple in Mira Nair’s engrossing tale.

Jason’s Lyric | 1994
Long before she became wife of one Hollywood’s biggest stars, Jada Pinkett Smith was a successful working actress. Fifteen years ago, her hot steamy love scenes with co-star Allen Payne almost earned “Jason’s Lyric” an X-rating. This story of a romantic dreamer who falls for a troubled young Houston man with an insane-in-the-membrane older brother will always be remembered for the hot nude love scene in a bed of flowers. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones who thought the two were hot – Will Smith married Jada several years later!

Looking very cool and Parisian chic which is a great change from Renee’s usual leggings and sneakers.  That taut stomache will soon be a thing of the past as Renee will be bulking up for Bridget Jones III so I can see why she’s enjoying it now.

Renee Zellwegger’s going Raging Bull on us…again!

Hold on to your granny pants and brace yourselves: a third Bridget Jones movie is in development, and it looks as though Renee Zellweger will return to the role of the desperate 30-something as she continues to pratfall her way through life.

The quicker-witted among you will currently be thinking, “Hang on! I thought there were only two books?” Well, you’re not wrong – but there are further developments. Author Helen Fielding wrote a further series of columns about Jones in The Independent in 2005 or so, which saw our heroine attempting to get pregnant while she still could, and not quite managing to kick either Mark Darcy (Colin Firth maybe) or Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant maybe) to the kerb. Thta there will be another film hardly comes as a surprise and I really can’t help but be cynical when considering Zellwegger hasn’t had a hit in quite some time!

But it’s all very early days: production isn’t likely to start until the end of next year, meaning that we won’t see this until late 2011 at the earliest. No writer or director is attached yet, but given the massive success of the franchise to date, and recent successes like Sex and the City and Mamma Mia!, I doubt they’ll have much trouble finding talent.

Appaloosa: ***
Director: Ed Harris
Stars: Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen, Renee Zellwegger, Jeremy Irons

A western which had high hopes and didn’t quite reach them. This movie is good, really good but it could’ve been great if it wasn’t for one thing. Appaloosa is a town that’s been put into a new low thanks to ruthless Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) and his men. They drink and don’t pay, make a mess of things, take whatever women they want and recently a man was murdered and his wife was raped and killed by two of Bragg’s boys. The sheriff and his deputies making the arrest get killed by Braggs and now the town officials don’t know what to do. This is when Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and his longtime partner Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) come in and start putting things in order, they become the city marshall and deputy, make new laws and stick by them no matter what. Soon after they work on taking down Braggs.

All of this is pitch perfect and done just right but here is where the biggest problem of the movie comes in….Renee Zellwegger. Her character really could have just been scrapped completely from this movie and it wouldve made it ten times better. She becomes Cole’s love interest Allison French that gets long and complicated through the movie but to me it was more like long and unnecessary. I didn’t believe this character for a minute and Renee Zellwegger didn’t do anything to make things better for it.

What really shines here is the chemistry between the two partners, Harris and Mortensen are both terrific. This is not as action packed as 3:10 To Yuma was but when these two characters are sharing the screen it was just as good. They were eachother’s Ying to their Yang and it was really the best thing about the movie which makes me loves westerns in the first place, the bond and trust among men, especially the ones of friends (it’s like a brotherhood) and it’s always something I really admired. Jeremy Irons was great, but everyone should already know that, he can play a criminal in his sleep if he wanted to. The shootouts were all excellent and the finale really takes the cake. I thought the movie was good but whenever Zellwegger gets in the screen it just pulls the movie down from reaching greatness. Harris shows that he knows westerns as he directed, wrote, priduced and starred in this movie and he worked on making everything seem just right and it shows. Mortensen needs an Academy Award, he’s doing incredible work from The Lord Of The Rings, A History Of Violence (which Ed Harris also appeared) and Eastern Promises… I mean if he doesn’t get an Oscar soon than its just a shame, and he just keeps your eyes glued to the screen everytime. This is another solid western that should go honorably in any man’s collection, even if Zellwegger was THAT bad.

God, I love musicals. Always did, always will!
Revad cu mare placere acum Chicago. Ma fatzai prin casa, cant, interpretez… stiu pe de rost versurile melodiilor, pentru mine e cel mai bun film musical. Prima oara, cum ar fi fost si normal, l-am vazut in 2003 la cinema Patria din Brasov… de fapt fostul cinema, ca l-au desfiintat nemernicii… Mare cinematograf. Va dati seama cat de impresionant e totul. Mie si la vremea aia imi venea sa ma ridic din scaun si sa dansez pe-acolo.
Nu te mai saturi de filmul asta…
Am vazut unele elemente preluate si la noi la scoala, in recitalu’ Radu Stanca… Hah! E bine ca ne inspiram din filmele bune.

Is someone taking posing lessons?  This is just awkward and strange.  The makeup is too much, the roots are too grown out, the hair is a mess and the pose is so off kilter.  The dress is lovely but the whole impression is ruined by what is obviously a Renee female impersonator.  Oh, it’s not?  My bad.

Sad color, sad hair, sad jewelry – if everything had been a happier color, it would have turned a frown upside down.
