Gillar ni Bridget Jones och Renee Zellwegger så har jag filmtipset för dig. Jag älskar såna här kärleksfilmer där man kan räkna ut slutet i början och man liksom bara myser sig igenom hela filmen. Filmen heter New in Town. Något jag gillade och var tvungen att påpeka för svägerskan var just att när kärlek skulle uppstå i slutet så hade han rakat sig. Nice! Hihi…

Renee Zellweger, 40 and Bradley Cooper 34 have been spotted in several occasions (outside of the United States) spending quality time together in various locales including Barcelona, Spain recently.  The couple who are appearing together in a horror movie called Case 39 have been doing everything to cover up their romance and keep it private, but reports from Glamorati indicate that Bradley took Renee up to his hometown in Pennsylvania to introduce her to his parents and that the engagement is very real.

Zellweger was also seen wearing an engagement ring, but managed to take it off when she appeared on Late Night with David Letterman on August 20th.  As for picking out any wedding dresses, the couple still isn’t talking even though a source close to the couple indicates that it’s indeed true.

This will be Renee’s second marriage.  She was married to country music star Kenny Chesney from May to December of 2005.  He also had the “under one year” marriage to actress Jennifer Esposito from December of 2006 to April 2007 and was officially divorced as of November of 2007.

Chicago won the Academy Award for Best Sound and won the British Academy Award for Best Sound. It was also nominated for the Cinema Audio Society award for Best Sound.

So, what happened to Timberwolves fans?  Were they holding a state of the franchise meeting for the Vikings last night?  Does Al Jefferson have an unusually large extended family?  Was there a rumor that Renee Zelwegger was going to be at the game?

Honestly, how many fucking people were there last night?  900?  Official attendance was 12,722.  The only way that number stands is if you counted every fat person in triplicate.  Then, maybe.

At least the US economy isn’t exactly like the chemical shitter from Christmas Vacation at this point.  Oh, wait…  Never mind.

Dino Blogger has a chat with Matt Devlin.  Just a quick thought for the sites in The Score’s Blog Federation…  The Friday The 13th add that you’re running makes it sound like my computer is crashing.  It’s unnerving.  This has very little to do with anything.

Back to DB’s chat with Devlin: If Dino Blogger and I ever do a podcast together, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get him to use a swear word.  I’d settle for “shit”, but my true aspiration would be the employment of “motherfucker” or “cocksucker”, preferably directed at me.

We’re coming to the end of Toronto Raptors – What they’re saying being in the regular post rotation.  A comment that I received on a recent post has me thinking about what type of content I want to put on Searching For ‘93.

It was a re-direction that was on my mind to begin with, this gentlemen just brought it to the forefront.  In the early going, this was fun, but overall, I’m not sure how useful it is.  Producing content that is applicable, thought-provoking and unique is my goal on Searching For ‘93.  That doesn’t mean, I can’t fire off one of these pieces when inspiration strikes, that will certainly happen.

Moving forward, S’93 is looking for things that you can’t find anywhere else.  Stay tuned.

É sempre muito engraçado assistir O Diário de Bridget Jones, ainda mais numa tarde de férias. É o grande papel de Renée Zellweger no cinema, que mesmo na fase gorda,  está simplesmente linda. A narrativa da história é facinha e faz todo mundo rir. Afinal, muitas mulheres – e homens – se identificam com as aventuras do pós-30-anos-e-ainda-solteiro de Bridget Jones.

Ainda falando em Renée Zellweger, ela volta às telonas em 2009 com New in Town e Case 39. O primeiro é uma comédia onde uma grande empresária de Miami é transferida para o interior de Minesota e acaba se sentindo como um cão que caiu da mudança. O segundo já é um drama em que Zellweger é uma assistente social que luta para salvar uma garota dos abusos sexuais de seus pais e mais tarde descobre que o caso é bem mais perigoso que ela imaginava. 

New in Town | Case 39

My life is kinda’ busy right now.  I make no apologies for having plenty to do.  I refuse to write a “sorry I’m such a terrible blogger” post, but I will say that I’ve seen a lot of movies lately but do not have the time to write full-blown reviews for each one that I’ve seen.  (I might be busy, but I can always make time to watch a movie.)

So here are some quick reviews on the stuff I’ve seen of late (in no particular order).

THE TV SET

This is one of those films where you’re led to believe you’ll be watching a comedy because of the insane things people do and say.  However, The TV Set, while expertly acted (particularly by Sigourney Weaver as the executive from Hell), is more informative than entertaining, cautionary than humorous.  David Duchovny plays a TV writer struggling to get his dramedy The Wexler Chronicles produced.  The network loves it, but wants changes.  And more changes.  And then some more changes. PERFECT FOR: People who love behind-the-scenes types of movies.

APPALOOSA

I had somewhat high hopes for Appaloosa; Last year’s 3:10 To Yuma was my top movie of 2007.  Sadly, Ed Harris’s second directorial effort lacks the heart and intensity of Yuma.  Harris and Viggo Mortensen are Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch, hired guns given charge of the town of Appaloosa, New Mexico, to rid it of rampant crime at the hand of Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons, who seems terribly out of place despit his best to muffle his British accent).  Renee Zelwegger shows up as a two-bit hussy masquerading as an old-fashioned kind of girl, eyes always fixated on the nearest alpha male.  Some interesting moments, but stoic performances from Harris and Mortensen (a deliberate choice, I’m sure) make Appaloosa watchable, but not memorable.  PERFECT FOR: Western fans.

NETFLIX THIS: BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER

Bigger, Faster, Stronger follows director Chris Bell as he tries to make sense of the widespread use of steroid use in America, and in the process upends everything you thought you knew about it.  While much emphasis is places on how steroids have (artificially) built up America’s heroes (like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone), the film also tells the very intimate story of his own family–Bell’s older and younger brother are both on steroids.  The scene where Bell’s mother discovers her sons’ steroid use is heartbreaking.  “There is a clash in America,” Bell says, “between doing what’s right and being the best.”  Bigger, Faster Stronger is not only educational, but highly entertaining.   PERFECT FOR: People who want to like Michael Moore but can’t stand his smugness.

This week Ann Reinking is in Chicago, and, no, I don’t
mean the musical.

Ms. Reinking is in town to present the world premiere
of her work “Rossini Recess” as part of a weekend long
celebration of the 15th Anniversary of Thodos Dance
Chicago at The Harold Washington Library.

I had the good fortune Wednesday night to be invited
to a private cocktail reception in honor of the Tony
award winning choreographer of “Chicago” at the
beautiful home of Thodos board member Elaine Margulis.
(Look, Melissa Thodos, Ann and Elaine at the reception!)

Ms. Reinking’s choreography and Bebe Newirth’s performance in the
Broadway production are among my fondest memories.
I wonder if that could have been 10 years ago, Elaine doesn’t think it’s possible
but Ann confirms it to be true. Wow, how time flies!

Over the years I’ve had a couple of nagging questions about “Chicago”
but I never thought I would get the chance to have them answered by the master herself.

In particular, I wanted to know how did she feel about
Renee Zellweger’s performance in the film, since Ms.
Zellweger was clearly not a dancer and her “dancing”
relied heavily on editing. She gave me the same
surprising answer when I asked how it was possible for
Melanie Griffith to get such rave reviews on Broadway
despite the fact that she was neither a top notch
singer nor dancer.

She thought both of the performances were a success
because “you have to be able to hit the notes and do
the steps, yes. But the most important thing you have
to do as a dancer is to tell the story.”

A Gala cocktail reception with Ms.Reinking on Friday
between 5:30-6:30pm precedes the world premiere of her
work and a full program of dances follows Saturday,
