<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-43" title="28bbfullercover" src="http://bandersnatchbooks.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/28bbfullercover.jpg" alt="28bbfullercover" width="205" height="166" />The hosting at <a href="http://bandersnatchbooks.com/" target="_blank">bandersnatchbooks.com</a> allows for a blog function, but it&#8217;s so damn clunky and not-user-friendly that I think eventually there might be greater use of the Bandersnatch wordpress placeholder that Scott and I threw up a few months back.  So, the site gets a simple news page.  For the time being, further explanations will go here, I guess.</p>
<p>Scott and I have a goal of books baring ISBN #s, bar codes, and amazon availability.  However, that&#8217;s a project that has to be worked towards.  In the mean time, the simple process of putting books together needs to be mastered first, and so to that end, we decided to cut our teeth by doing ISBN-less chapbooks that would be sold off the website for the time being.</p>
<p>The first of such chapbooks is <a href="http://jbrucefuller.blogspot.com/">J. Bruce Fuller</a>&#8217;s haiku/senryu/renga-like sequence 28 Blackbirds at the End of the World.  I first interacted with Fuller through his small poetry journal Shantytown Anomaly.  I had written a turzenelle entitled &#8220;The Godheart&#8217;s Graven Idol,&#8221; and he accepted it for publication.  From there, that little repetitive poem (featuring infant sacrifice!) seemed to capture attention in the science fiction poetry community, to the point where it received a Rhysling nomination, and it eventually won and went on to be republished in the 2009 Nebula Showcase.  However, I&#8217;m not the point of this post, however &#8212; just felt the need to sort of explain a little bit of the back story, in the name of full disclosure</p>
<p>At the time, however, I didn&#8217;t know much about the SFPA or the Rhysling Awards.  I do know that my membership has long since lapsed, and that needs fixing.  At anyrate, the following year, I received the Rhysling anthology and read through it, and that&#8217;s where I first came across Fuller&#8217;s 28 Blackbirds.  I found myself charmed by it&#8217;s quirkiness, but it also struck as more than a string of &#8220;scifiaku&#8221;  (the journal that originally published it was Scifaikuest, from Sams Dot).  The way I read it was like looking at a little photo album, where all the snapshots featured blackbirds in an apocalyptic setting.  Also, it struck me as a fun homage to Wallace Stevens and his Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird.</p>
<p>Okay, so flash foward to know.  Scott Colbert and I decide we want create our own press, and we want to start by doing chapbooks.  Fuller&#8217;s 28 Blackbirds struck me as a perfect project to take on, especially given my inclinations when it comes to poetry.  First, there&#8217;s a grander conceptual nature to the group of the poems &#8212; this is not a random selection of haiku that Fuller wrote and threw into a chapbook.  It&#8217;s a deliberate sequence.  The only thing that I&#8217;d hoped for, however, when I pitched fuller was that I could only do that particular poem as a chapbook, and no others.  28 Blackbirds was originally published without page breaks, as lots of haiku strings/renga usually are.  I was hoping to go back to my &#8220;photobook experience,&#8221; separating each poem out onto it&#8217;s own page.  So I pitched Fuller, and I pitched Scott, and both became interested, and so here we are.  <a href="authorbobfreeman.wordpress.com">Bob Freeman</a> has done an awesome cover, and hopefully, Bandersnatch should have this out by the end of the month, or the beginning of december.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>VoxBox and the Scottish Poetry Library are holding a <em>Sotto Voce</em> Slam on Wednesday evening at the <a href="http://www.spl.org.uk/">SPL</a>, in association with the Ivor Cutler exhibition and the Noise Abatement Society. I&#8217;m looking forward to taking part, and I&#8217;ve chosen poems for the first and second rounds. The judges will be looking for &#8216;exquisite&#8217; poems, and I&#8217;m not totally sure if that&#8217;s the right word to describe my poetry.</p>
<p>Thursday I&#8217;m doing a poetry workshop at the State Hospital, Carstairs. I always enjoy my visits there &#8211; I never know how the patients will respond to poems, but it&#8217;s great to try out a variety of themes and styles, before I focus in on something they&#8217;re interested in.</p>
<p>In the evening I&#8217;m doing a renga in Dunbar as part of the &#8216;Curiouser and Curiouser&#8217; event at the Arts Hub.</p>
<p>At the weekend I&#8217;m off to Callander for the Poetry Weekend &#8211; details on the <a href="http://www.poetryscotland.co.uk/">Poetry Scotland</a> website.</p>

<p>Un haïku est constitué de 17 syllabes qui peuvent être scindées en trois parties de cinq, sept et cinq. C&#8217;est la première partie d&#8217;un poème court, ou tanka, qui, lui, en contient 31 : 5/7/5-7/7. Les haïkus furent séparés des quatorze syllabes suivantes au XIV° siècle. On en trouve dans la <em>Collection Tsukuba</em>, compilée par Nijô Yoshimoto (1320-1388).<br />
   Tout d&#8217;abord il y eut des Poèmes Longs et des Poèmes Courts, les tanka. Puis, au début de l&#8217;ère chrétienne, les Courts Poèmes commencèrent par être composés par deux poètes, l&#8217;un faisant les 5/7/5, l&#8217;autre les 7/7. Une légende rapporte que Yamato-takeru no Mikoto (81-112), troisième fils de l&#8217;Empereur Keikô, composa un Court Poème Lié, c&#8217;est-à-dire un tanka, ou Court Poème fait par deux personnes. Dans le <em>Manyôshu</em>, compilation faite par Tachibana Moroe (684-757) au milieu du VIII° sècle, dans lehuitième livre, se trouvent de tels Poèmes courts Liés. Les Longs Poèes Liés, c&#8217;est-à-dire une succession de 5/7/5-7/7-5/7/5-77, etc. pendant 50 ou 100 vesets commencèrent à apparaître vers la fin de lEpoque Heian (794-858). De tels poèmes liés devinrent très populaires au début de l&#8217;Ere Kamakura (1186-1339), et deux écoles apparurent : la sérieuse Ushinha, et la comique Mushinha. La Mushinha donna le nom de Haikai Renga, &#8220;poèmes sportifs liés&#8221;, abbrévié en Haikai à ses compositions, ce qui fut employé pour toute poésie et exercices poétiques tels. Le mot haiku est un mélange de cette expression haïkaï et hokku (le premier poème des Longs Vers Liés), haïkaï + hokku devenant haïku vers le milieu du XVIII° siècle. &#8220;Haïkaï&#8221; signifie parfois haïku, et certains anciens utilisent encore le mot de &#8220;hokku&#8221;.<br />
   Le haïkaï ou renku a pratiquement cessé de vivre au Japon. Le mépris de Shiki (1866-1902) pour cette forme de composition littéraire en est souvent donné comme la raison. Plus probablement, la difficulté de trouver quatre ou cinq véritables poètes en suffisante harmonie de caractère et d&#8217;humeur pour accomplir la tâche difficile d&#8217;écrire ensemble un tel poème a peut-être causé l&#8217;arrêt de cette pratique.<br />
   Le rapport du haïku au renku est un peu comme celui des anciennes statues grecques aux temples qui les abritaient. La statue ne fut taillée pour elle-même que progressivement. Historiquement et aussi dans le but de comprendre leur point de vue et leur ambiance, l&#8217;étude des haïkus doit être précédée de qelque connaissance de la nature des versets liés. On comprendra aisément que les poèmes lié subirent eux-mêmes développements et changements à la fois dans leur forme et leur esprit durant plus d&#8217;un millier d&#8217;années. On ne peut traiter de cela ici, mais on peut donner un court aperçu du développement du haïku à partir du waka en passat par le renku (, nom utilisé pour le &#8220;renga&#8221; à partir d&#8217;environ 1750). </p>

El orden en que escribieron fue: Boncho, Basho, Kyorai.<br />
Digo que es un sacrilegio porque se trata de una versión de la versión en inglés que aparece en el libro: <em>Matsuo Basho, The Master Haiku Poet</em>, escrito por Makoto Ueda. Una sombra de una sombra, qué le vamos a hacer. ¡Nos la merecemos por no saber suficiente japonés!</p>

Aunque en su obra Blyth aclara algunos pasajes que resultan confusos, también la oscuridad puede ser disfrutada: todo está en que seamos capaces de inventarnos historias para hilvanar las secuencias o, todavía mejor, asumir el deleite de sus incertidumbres.</em></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>The Emperor and Empress of Japan were in Victoria recently, which was generally exciting and caused a lot of media attention.  The Empress studied tanka poetry under a master writer before her marriage and has written critically acclaimed tankas.</p>
<p>I looked up Japanese poetry on Wikipedia, and from there found <a href="http://www.ahapoetry.com/r_info.htm">this link</a> to  rengas written in English &#8211; a fascinating group artform.  Maybe we could write our own hypertext, who knows?  I&#8217;m still reading <a href="http://www.ahapoetry.com/wwwdiag.htm">Riding White Roads</a>.</p>

<p>And for fabriholics, go to <a href="http://spoonflower.com">Spoonflower</a>.  This is an awesome service that lets you print fabric of your own design and order yardage.  At least one textile designer whose interview appears on the webpage had yardage printed there and used it for a portfolio that she shopped around to fabric companies.  She now has a fabric collection in production!</p>
<p>Last night I stayed up into the wee small hours just playing around with some of my jpg images (nothing whose copyright belongs to someone else, of course!).  The colour editing was educational because particularly with photos you can&#8217;t always tell what colours are really there.  But don&#8217;t take my word for it, go play!  Oh, the possibilities are just endless!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>For those of you who may not have checked out the <a href="http://www.cordite.org.au/newsblog/interactive-haikunaut-renga" target="_blank">Haikunaut Island</a> interactive renga over at Cordite, the 36th link has now been finalised and the renga is complete (and if you are not sure what a renga is they provide this great <a href="http://www.cordite.org.au/features/keiji-minato-notes-on-renga" target="_blank">link</a> to find out more).</p>
<p>There has been an amazing response to the renga with over 100o haiku/links submitted, so this Lost Shark feels pretty excited to have had one of his &#8216;ku selected.</p>

<p>was selected for link 34.</p>
<p>The Haikunaut Island Renga is definitely worth checking out and if it looks like something you would like to participate in, Ashley Capes has just started another interactive renga at his blog <a href="http://issassnail.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Issa&#8217;s Snail</a>.</p>

<p><a href="http://smnewsblog.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/domani1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-10670" title="domani1" src="http://smnewsblog.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/domani1.jpg" alt="domani1" width="214" height="211" /></a>Quando la tragedia produce il miracolo: il terremoto del 6 aprile non ha scosso solo l’Abruzzo, ma anche milioni di coscienze. E la risposta umanitaria, anche sul fronte musicale, non si è fatta attendere. Infatti 56 big della canzone italiana (tra gli altri, Afterhours, Baglioni, Battiato, Carboni, Consoli, Elisa, Fabri Fibra, Ferro, Giorgia, Jovanotti, Ligabue, Morandi, Morgan, Nannini, Negramaro, Pausini, Pelù, Renga, Tricarico, Vecchioni, Venditti, Zucchero), hanno aderito al progetto – lampo (tra lancio della proposta e registrazione del pezzo sono passati solo quattro giorni) del rifacimento corale di “Domani”, canzone di qualche anno fa scritta dal leader della Pfm Mauro Pagani.</p>
<p>Un ensemble di voci diverse per registro, timbro, intonazione, stile, fuse in 6 minuti e 30 righe di testo. E il risultato ha superato ogni aspettativa: “Domani”, trasmessa per la prima volta alle 3.32 del 6 maggio, a un mese esatto dal sisma, è un concerto ben  orchestrato e coinvolgente, privo di sbavature e con una sua coerenza armonica ed espressiva, al di là dell’esecuzione eterogenea. Poche le defezioni al progetto, che nessuno ha commentato: Antonacci, Zero, Ramazzotti e Mannoia.</p>
<p>Il remake di “Domani”, voluto dal trio Jovanotti – Mauro Pagani – Giuliano Sangiorgi dei Negramaro, rientra nell’ambito dell’iniziativa “Salviamo l’Abruzzo” e gli incassi delle vendite, che si sperano cospicue (“la sfida è vendere un milione di album e altrettanti file digitali” ha detto Jova), saranno devoluti alla ricostruzione del Conservatorio “Alfredo Casella” e del Teatro Stabile dell’Aquila. Dall’8 maggio, il brano sarà in vendita negli store digitali e il 15 arriverà in tutti i negozi di dischi in una confezione da 5 € che include la versione integrale, quella strumentale e il videoclip.</p>

<p>PESCARA &#8211; La grande musica in concerto per le vittime del terremoto. Da Vecchioni a Renga, da Finardi a De Piscopo senza dimenticare Afterhours, le Vibrazioni ed il pescarese Giò Di Tonno, sono tanti i big della canzone che hanno risposto all’appello “Aiutatemi ad aiutarli” lanciato da Franz Di Cioccio della Pfm, originario di Pratola Peligna. Una “Chiamata alle arti” che si concretizzerà martedì sera a Milano sul palco del Palasharp.<br />
L’arte e la cultura si mobilitano per L’Aquila e l’Abruzzo e la straordinaria gara di solidarietà ha coinvolto anche Gianni Morandi che lunedì a mezzogiorno, in Provincia a Chieti, annuncerà il suo contributo alla causa: a quanto pare, gli incassi dei suoi concerti, organizzati dalla Project Service di Aldo Caprini il 23 e 24 maggio a Chieti, saranno devoluti alle famiglie colpite dal terremoto. Spetta a Morandi confermarlo ma è comunque certo che il suo aiuto sarà generosissimo e non sarà l’unico visto che il cantante bolognese è una star della nazionale cantanti pronta a scendere in campo per risollevare la città perduta. <strong>Alla Civitella di Chieti, con la Elite Agency, arriverà il 25 luglio Claudio Baglioni, uno dei 50 big della canzone (anche qui ritroviamo Morandi) ad aver aderito al progetto di Jovanotti e Giuliano Sangiorgi dei Negramaro per aiutare l’Abruzzo con i proventi di “Domani”, brano che uscirà ai primi di maggio (digitale su iTunes e cd singolo).</strong> Il volontariato dà spettacolo anche al cinema: ammonta a mezzo milione l’incasso netto di ieri in duemila sale, cifra che l’industria cinematografica (Anec, Anem, Anica e produttori) ha donato alla Protezione civile. Dal cinema alla letteratura: Fahrenheit, trasmissione di radiotre, consegnerà agli sfollati nei campi i libri che oggi saranno inviati in studio. Sul palcoscenico della solidarietà anche i principi abruzzesi della risata: ’Nduccio e Vincenzo Olivieri si esibiscono domani alle 20,30 al parco della ex caserma Cocco a Pescara.</p>
<p><!--more-->Dalla cultura al volontariato, passando per forze dell’ordine e criminalità: il carico di 18 tonnellate di arance (che nascondeva 720 chili di marijuana) sequestrato dalla Finanza nel porto di Ancona finirà ai terremotati, così come andranno ai bambini aquilani duemila tavolette di cioccolato regalate dal consorzio di tutela del cioccolato di Modica. Annuncia aiuti anche la Federlegno che aiuterà la regione Lombardia, ha detto il presidente Formigoni, ad attrezzare nuovi campi di accoglienza nella nostra regione. E mentre la Caritas dichiara d’aver superato i 4 milioni con la colletta della Cei, e l’Anpas dal Piemonte invia oggi 25 volontari per l’assistenza agli anziani sfollati nei campi, il cda dell’Enpam, ente di previdenza dei medici, annuncia d’aver approvato all’unanimità di contribuire a finanziare la ricostruzione dell’ospedale San Salvatore dell’Aquila. «E’ un impegno economico rilevante &#8211; ha detto il presidente dell’Enpam, Eolo Parodi &#8211; al quale s’aggiungeranno i versamenti che tutti gli iscritti devolveranno alla Fondazione con il versamento del 5 per mille». L’Enpam prenderà contatti con enti e autorità per la gestione dei fondi, senza dimenticare i 50 milioni che l’assicurazione verserà a risarcimento del crollo della struttura di Coppito. «Un altro generoso contributo arriverà dalla Confederazione dei 105 ordini dei medici nelle province italiane, faremo perciò un ospedale nuovo e sicuro, un fiore all’occhiello per la sanità in Abruzzo &#8211; ha commentato con grande soddisfazione il professor Enrico Lanciotti, presidente dell’Ordine provinciale dei medici di Pescara -. Altri centomila euro sono stati già impegnati dalla Federazione nazionale per strutture, studi, ambulatori e macchinari».</p>
