<p><strong>Sinopsis:</strong></p>
<p>Tom Cutler es un hombre cuyo trabajo consiste en limpiar escenas de crímenes después de que la policía haya recabado todas las pruebas y haya retirado a las víctimas. Cutler, el limpiador, antiguo policía, elimina todo rastro de sangre, olor y manchas, y se considera a sí mismo capaz de acabar también con el dolor al borrar cualquier vestigio de una tragedia. Pero todo se complica cuando un día limpia por error el escenario de un asesinato antes de que la policía haya actuado en él, de modo que se convierte en involuntario encubridor de un crimen que tratará de resolver.</p>
<p><strong>Opinión:</strong></p>
<p>Renny Harlin no es un director que pasara precisamente a la historia del cine. Es un competente realizador, eso si, especializado en cintas de acción y con una filmografia en la que abundan mas los truños (&#8220;La alianza del mal&#8221;) que las joyitas (&#8220;Maximo riesgo&#8221;, ¡¡oh, yeah!!).  Por eso me sorprendió ver su nombre en esta cinta de cine negro con sabor a clásico. Y mira por donde, no sale mal parado, con un puesta en escena sobria y fría, al servicio de una intrigante historia.</p>

<p>Al frente de todo esto, el siempre eficaz Samuel L. Jackson, que cuando quiere y no esta filmando cualquier bobochorrez, demuestra lo gran actor que es. Mas un muestrario de excelentes secundarios, donde brilla con luz propia Ed Harris. Cada vez que aparece la temperatura del film sube varios enteros. Y es una pena sus escasos minutos porque la película adolece de una falta de ritmo alarmante. A veces plena de suspense, a veces soporífera, no consigue en ningún momento una continuidad que hubiera convertido a este largometraje en una gran película.</p>

The film launched new comer Linda Blair into the spotlight and set a benchmark for psychological horror films to come. The film was “<strong>The Exorcist</strong>”.</p>
<p>In the new Exorcist film, we are introduced to a younger Father Merrin (Stellan Skarsgard, Max Von Sydow in the original 1973 film). This film is almost an origin story if you will.</p>
<p>Following the devastation and gritty aftermath of World War II, Merrin has become disillusioned with his faith and turned his back on the church. He now makes his life as an archeologist.</p>
<p>His passion for uncovering the past brings him to a desolate village on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya where a church has been uncovered. The church was built in 500 AD and seems to hold a rather disturbing secret. Upon Merrin’s arrival, he is greeted by Sarah (Izabella Scorupco), a doctor who has been with the dig since the beginning.</p>
<p>As Merrin begins to investigate the mysterious church he learns that the site was constructed over a pagan temple and that the archeologist who uncovered the site has gone completely insane. As the mystery deepens, Merrin will face his tortured past, seek redemption and face the greatest evil man has ever known.</p>
<p><img class="alignright" title="evb2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.cinematical.com/media/2005/10/dominion2.jpg" alt="" width="480" height="278" />Stellan Skarsgard is quite impressive as the struggling Merrin and it his performance that accents a lot of the credibility housed in this film. You can see this man’s pain and how he conflicts with everything he witnesses. Even in the attraction scenes with the younger Scorupco, Skarsgard doesn’t allow his character to find any raw emotion.</p>
<p>Director Renny Harlin’s tone and gritty nature does emulate a lot of what is happening within Merrin. But his overly gory and bloody sequences make the film quite hard to stomach in places. I have also never witnessed so many blatant attempts to lay on the gore so heavy.</p>
<p>Gore is fine but here it seems layered on as a sort of horror icing. Does gore equal horror?</p>
<p><img class="alignleft" title="evb3" src="http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/040819/040819_exorcist_hlg1p.hlarge.jpg" alt="" width="455" height="273" />What was so fun about the original was that it was highly psychological even though we did have that infamous “pea soup” scene. It dove into the mind of not only Linda Blair’s 12-year old girl but the struggling of Father Merrin. In the new film we seem to lose the psychological element as the true evil is finally revealed.</p>
<p>The film feels like it goes over three hours but it is only about 100 minutes. The reason for this is probably because there is just so much heaviness and dark gritty scenes that your mind plays tricks on you.</p>
<p>In a lot of the scenes which used overly horrific elements, I found that is was just too much. Also the film throws out the whole idea that Hollywood doesn’t harm children on camera. There are just so many unsettling and disturbing scenes housed in this film.</p>
<p>I really enjoyed Skarsgard and Renny Harlin’s gritty direction. I also was captivated by a lot of the film’s mysterious elements and story. I just got frustrated with the gratuitous gore and disturbing violence.</p>

That&#8217;s right. Renny Harlin of Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea, Exorcist: The Beginning, Driven, Cutthroat Island, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Die Hard 2.</p>
<p>According to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3icc3fec8640be47140213df69a58237ce">The Hollywood Reporter</a>, Kilmer will take the role of a journalist involved in covering last year&#8217;s military conflict between Russia and Georgia.</p>
<p>The drama involves an American journalist and his cameraman caught in the crossfire and a Georgia native (Chriqui) and doctoral student who becomes entangled with them.</p>
<p>I like a few of Harlin&#8217;s films, but his recent work has got steadily worse. Chriqui was in You Don&#8217;t Mess With the Zohan and in the forthcoming Women in Trouble, but Val Kilmer can often bring the goods (then again he can also pick some bad roles). His time in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is true genius though. Check that film out if you haven&#8217;t already seen it.</p>

Ambientada en el reciente conflicto real, la película tiene como protagonista a un periodista que junto con su cámara se adentra en Georgia, justo cuando Rusia le declara la guerra. Ambos tendrán que cubrir la guerra expuestos a un constante fuego cruzado entre los dos bandos. Durante su reportaje conocerán a una estudiante nativa que les ayudará en su trabajo y con la que establecerán una profunda amistad. Parece que aunque toca el thriller, la película se escapa en cierto modo de la temática de los últimos trabajos de <strong>Harlin</strong>, más enfocados a la acción, como en el caso de <strong><em>12 Trampas</em></strong>.</p>

<p>Ainda me lembro como se fosse ontem da primeira vez em que assisti a <em>O Exorcista</em>. Foi em 1997, numa pequena sala de exibição de menos de 50 lugares, num ciclo de retrospectiva dos clássicos da Warner Bros. Era uma sessão maldita (para quem não sabe, o nome que se dá a uma sessão de cinema que começa exatamente à meia-noite), e a noite chuvosa e de vento contribuía ainda mais para o clima de terror &#8211; e também para o meu desespero! Hehehe&#8230; Quando a sessão começou, a platéia tinha milhares e milhares de três pessoas (incluindo eu), e depois de duas horas de um turbilhão de medo e comoção, saí do cinema aterrorizado, com os cabelos em pé e a sensação de ter presenciado um trabalho de gênio. No mesmo instante, <em>O Exorcista</em> entrou na minha listinha pessoal dos melhores filmes da história do cinema. Sem exageros.</p>
<p>Quando soube que <em><strong>Exorcista: O Início</strong></em> (Exorcist: The Beginning, 2004) realmente sairia do papel, odiei a idéia. Principalmente depois de todos os problemas na produção (mais detalhes no final deste artigo), que resultaram na demissão do diretor Paul Schrader (<em>A Marca da Pantera</em>) e contratação de <strong>Renny Harlin</strong> (<em>Risco Total</em>). Aí é que o negócio fedeu de vez: me revoltou a idéia dos executivos da Warner passarem a bola para um cara que até então só tinha feito filminhos de ação. Pombas, como que este Zézinho daria o tratamento que qualquer filhote do primeiro<em> O Exorcista</em> merece? Ainda mais que este novo longa voltaria no tempo e dissecaria o notório primeiro encontro do Padre Lancaster Merrin &#8211; imortalizado pelo grande Max Von Sydow e, desde já, o meu personagem favorito &#8211; com o demônio, encontro este apenas citado em <em>O Exorcista</em>.</p>
<p>De qualquer maneira, todos sabiam que os produtores só queriam mesmo um caça-níqueis. Mesmo sabendo disso (na verdade, com um fio de esperanças de que o trabalho fosse assistível), fui conferir este novo longa e devo dizer: ô fitinha ruim do cacete.</p>
<p>Vamos rapidamente à história: em 1949, o arqueólogo Merrin (o sueco <strong>Stellan Skarsgård</strong>, de <em>Dogville</em>), que abandonou a batina e perdeu a fé em Deus depois de uma aterrorizante experiência num campo de concentração na 2.ª Guerra, é convocado para auxiliar numa escavação na África. O que Merrin não sabe é que trata-se da descoberta de uma Igreja enterrada em pleno deserto. A Igreja, datada de 1.500 anos antes da chegada do catolicismo na região, está praticamente intacta e não apresenta nenhum sinal de desgaste do tempo.</p>
<p>Com o auxílio do padre Francis (<strong>James D&#8217;Arcy</strong>, <em>Mestre dos Mares</em>) e da médica Sarah (<strong>Izabella Scorupco</strong>, a <em>Bondgirl</em> do bem de <em>007 Contra GoldenEye</em>), Merrin também toma conhecimento da crença da população local, que acredita que o local é amaldiçoado por maus espíritos, e descobre que os responsáveis pela descoberta sumiram misteriosamente. A coisa piora quando um dos dois filhos de um habitante local apresenta clássicos sinais de possessão demoníaca. Mais manifestações macabras acontecem e Merrin passa a desconfiar que a Igreja foi construída no exato local em que Lúficer caiu na Terra depois da guerra travada no Paraiso. Eu, hein?</p>
<p>Os defeitos da película não são poucos: pra começar, Renny Harlin, o diretor, acredita fielmente que o conceito do &#8220;terror&#8221; se resume a sustos previsíveis. De fato, tem muitos sustos. Sangue, então, nem se fala. É pra todo lado. Mas é só o que tem. Harlin trata <em>Exorcista: O Início</em> não como um exercício de medo (bem, medo você não sente em momento nenhum) mas sim como filme de ação. Esta é a idéia de &#8220;filme de horror&#8221; do cara, que acaba esquecendo de um pequeno detalhe: o clima. Aquela ambientação fantástica de sugestão do primeiro filme foi jogado pra escanteio e o que se vê aqui é um festival de escatologia, com direito a muitos animais estripados, recém-nascidos cobertos de larvas e crianças partidas em vários pedaços por hienas raivosas &#8211; cenas, aliás, que incomodarão muita gente mas não chegam nem aos pés da histórica &#8220;virada de cabeça&#8221; da menina Regan. Fora que a platéia já sabe no começo o que acontecerá no final.</p>
<p>Outro ponto negativo é que Renny Harlin não se decide em momento algum entre as saídas criativas e datadas d&#8217;<em>O Exorcista</em> original e efeitos especiais moderninhos &#8211; a tão esperada aparição do Cabrunco incorporado no corpo de alguém, depois de quase duas horas de projeção, é risível.</p>
<p>Além disso, o elenco é terrível, à exceção do ótimo Stellan Skarsgård, que se sai muito bem como Merrin e se mostra uma escolha perfeita para o papel. Já o resto&#8230; James D&#8217;Arcy é muito canastrão e a ex-modelo Izabella Scorupco, pior ainda. Os caras simplesmente não conseguem criar uma empatia com a platéia, e isso prejudica e muito o andamento da fita. Remy Sweeney, o ator-mirim que carrega uma responsabilidade considerável no papel de Joseph, a criança possuída, é terrível de tão péssimo. Além do próprio Merrin, o único personagem digno de nota é Jeffries, interpretado com respeito e seriedade pelo engraçadíssimo inglês <strong>Alan Ford</strong> (para quem não sabe, o perigoso Tijolo do hilário <em>Snatch</em>, de Guy Ritchie), mas não considero muito por ter sido muito mal aproveitado.</p>
<p>Outro problema grave é o excesso de clichês. Todos os chavões de filmes de terror estão lá, desde as tribos estranhas da África até os &#8220;figurantes caolhos e cheios de cicatrizes&#8221; que passeiam pelos cenários de qualquer filme cuja ação se passa em regiões pobres.</p>
<p>Mas o maior problema de <em>Exorcista: O Início</em>, além da história mal desenvolvida, é seu antecessor. Talvez este longa fosse apenas &#8220;regular&#8221; se não carregasse nas costas a enorme responsabilidade de honrar a qualidade e o prestígio do primeiro filme da série. Este fator não evita que o espectador compare esta fita com a original durante boa parte do tempo. E vamos concordar: é impossível superar o horror sentido com a primeira aparição de Regan já convertida no Tinhoso. Os caras esperavam fazer isso com o Renny Harlin dirigindo? Pelo amor de Deus!</p>
<p>Bem, quer um filme de terror? Alugue <em>O Exorcista</em> original e bom divertimento. Quer levar uns sustinhos e esquecer que viu o filme assim que sair da sessão? Pode ficar com este mesmo. Mas vai na sessão mais barata, pra não sair xingando depois! Pelo menos serviu pra uma coisa: agora a gente sabe e tem certeza de que, em matéria de medo, nada é pior do que a ganância dos executivos dos estúdios de Hollywood&#8230; Vade retro, coisa ruim! <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':-D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><strong>CURIOSIDADES:</strong></p>
<p>• Dentre zilhões de problemas que a produção de <em>Exorcista: O Início</em> enfrentou, o mais notório foi, sem sombra de dúvidas, a substituição do diretor original, o estranho Paul Schrader, pelo &#8220;operário-padrão&#8221; Renny Harlin. A produtora, Morgan Creek, demitiu Schrader depois de ver o copião da primeira versão e não gostar nada do que viu. Segundo o estúdio, Schrader rodou &#8220;um drama psicológico sem um traço de escatologia&#8221;. Após a demissão do cineasta, o longa foi rodado praticamente do zero: mais de 90% do copião foi refeito, sendo que dois personagens da primeira versão foram eliminados por Renny Harlin. A Morgan Creek divulgou que, na ocasião do lançamento em DVD, as duas versões estarão no disco, e então poderemos conferir qual delas é a melhor (ou a menos ruim).</p>
<p>• O fantástico John Frankenheimer foi contratado para comandar as filmagens antes de Paul Schrader, mas abandonou o projeto misteriosamente. Exatamente um mês depois, o diretor faleceu, de causas naturais. Liam Neeson, o Qui-Gon Jinn de <em>Star Wars: Episódio I</em>, foi o primeiro cotado a interpretar o padre Merrin, mas se recusou quando soube que Frankenheimer tinha tirado o seu da reta.</p>

<p>This is the first time in memory watching a Renny Harlin movie. <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475944/">The Covenant</a> has a reputation of being the gayest straight witch movie ever to be created on celluloid. There are endless sequences of the boys being shirtless or even less and a man-on-man mouth rape. The rest of the film, however, is god-awful.</p>
<p>This movie tells the convoluted story about the sons of Ipswich, a powerful Wiccan sect that have been in the shadows ever since the Salem Witch Trails. It was believed that there were five descendants that survived.</p>
<p>We are introduced to four of them; Caleb (Steven Strait), the leader of the sons with Pogue, Reid, and Tyler (Taylor Kitsch, Toby Hemingway, Chace Crawford) that try to keep their supernatural powers under control.</p>
<p>Things change when a hidden, powerful fifth force threatens the kids at the Spencer boarding school.</p>
<p>There is nothing redeemable about this movie. The action sequences were clunky. You could actually notice that these people were on wires. The dialogue is atrocious. The acting was wooden. The only thing about this movie is the endless sweaty, shirtless scenes with the male cast members.</p>
<p>Judgment: A generic movie that should have a soft-core gay porn flick.</p>

Geena Davis – despite that Mount Rushmore quality chin – maybe even BECAUSE OF that monumental mandible – was totally hot before she married Renee Harlin and became a sex slave instead of an international superstar.I’ve always loved that iconic scene where she’s strapped to the mill-wheel and, instead of just drowning her, the baddies dunk her a few times for laughs and to see what she looks like in a wet t-shirt, giving Charly the opportunity to escape her bonds and seize upon a submachine gun discarded on the bottom of the mill pond and blast their motherfucking heads off. God, get a load of the language out of me! It really IS true: movies breed violence.</div>

I have to say, he obviously had a disproportionately high number of lesbian flicks in his collection, so I’m not sure what that says about MarkJ except that maybe HE’S a lesbian.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">Generally, a good romcom will do the trick for me – but that one, innocuous, often misapplied, little word ‘good’ disqualifies most contenders.</div>

The movie is based on the book of the same title, a self-help book whose premise can be condensed into one multiple choice question:</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">So, you meet a guy, and he says he’ll call, but he DOESN’T and then, when you ring HIM, you get his voicemail, so you drop by his house because you were just passing by ANYWAY, and he sets his dogs on you and later the police arrest you because of the restraining order – but dammit, how were you to know? &#8211; so does he:</div>

But if you answered a) or c) you might want to pick up a copy.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">Anyhoo, the movie is about a group of couples and one slapper, all of whom either break up and then get back together, or are together and then break up. It was somewhat lacking in dramatic tension although regrettably not cliches. Also, you could see the plot twists coming like giant, inflatable pretzels being towed behind a light aircraft.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">The characters were pretty much uniformly one-dimensional and unlikeable, apart from Jennifer Aniston who couldn’t pull off unlikeable if she whined like Gwyneth Paltrow while torturing a puppy.</div>

She calls guys, she leaves multiple insane voice messages, she stalks, she quizzes men on what they mean by ‘Nice to meet ya’, and she appears to have a worrying fetish for obscenely hirsute legs. (Note: this character is supposed to be a twenty something everywoman, rather than a thirteen year old with a crush on Robbie Williams.)</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">Gigi gives a tremulous, impassioned speech about how her actions may be so cringeworthy that I could only watch it through my fingers and MarkJ pulled his t-shirt over his face, but that at least she’s daring her heart and feeling something or . . . something. SHE IS TRYING TO MAKE A VIRTUE OUT OF STUPIDITY! It’s like trying to make a virtue out of . . . of . . . crack cocaine addiction, or the Atkins diet.</div>

Scarlett Johanssen stalks a married man, and then gets all upset when he bundles her into a cupboard half-naked when his wife calls to his office (I know, UNBELIEVABLY cliched) (this scene was also more cringe-worthy than a Fawlty Towers finale). I hate to think of a slut like Scarlett throwing herself at Husband. At least I know he would say: “Scarlett, I know you want me. That’s understandable. But step away from the lunchbox. I mean it. I am madly in love with my wife, and you have thick legs.”</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position:absolute;left:-10000px;top:0;width:1px;height:1px;">Then we have The Wife, who was more concerned whether her husband was smoking on the sly than shagging some slut (see above). And then The Wife finds a packet of cigarettes wrapped in his gym towel – but I ask you: if someone is trying to cover up an illicit smoking habit, do they really HIDE packets of cigarettes? Surely they SMOKE THEM? I would have thought illicit smokers bought packs of twenty, went to a secluded spot, and inhaled the lot of them, one after another, in a furtive five minute session before burning any remaining evidence.</div>

<p>As campy as this movie was, it had genuine thrillers and horror. Director Renny Harlin tells the story of a group of researchers who breed genetically engineered sharks in order to find a cure for Alzheimer&#8217;s disease. The sharks&#8217; genes had to be altered because their normal size did not produce big enough brains to store more proteins&#8211;proteins that activate inactive Alzheimer-ridden neurons. The researchers consisted of Saffron Burrows, Stellan Skarsgård and Jacqueline McKenzie. Thomas Jane was the person who wrestled with sharks in order to incapacitate them so the researchers could extract brain matter, Samuel L. Jackson was the funder of the project, Michael Rapaport as the physicist, and LL Cool J as the god-fearing chef. I liked the fact that this picture used humor in order to relieve some of the tension on screen. There were a plethora of very funny one-liners, especially from LL Cool J as he tried to fight off a shark in the kitchen. But the one character I had a big problem with was Burrows. For such an intelligent person, she made such stupid decisions, especially toward the end. It was as though the film wanted to note a sort of evolution in her morals, which really wasn&#8217;t necessary at all because, as a scientist, she must be objective and be able to weigh the pros and cons of situations. If I were in her position, I would not have felt as much guilt for creating very intelligent, giant sharks if it meant saving millions of people who suffer from Alzheimer&#8217;s. As a person who works with people who are ravaged by the disease, I can understand how serious it is and losing a few lives in the process would not have impacted me as much if I were to consider the big picture. Also, this might be a minor complaint, but the movie implied that one can &#8220;bring back&#8221; those who were in severe stages of the disease. In reality, it&#8217;s not possible because the memories have been lost. Stopping the degeneration and even prevention, on the other hand, are entirely possible. But granted, this movie was released in 1999 and we didn&#8217;t understand the disease as well back then. Overall, this is a thrilling film with several clever ideas but does suffer with a weak first few minutes and ending. &#8220;Deep Blue Sea&#8221; is simply a story of survival&#8211;a cross between &#8220;Jaws&#8221; and &#8220;Daylight.&#8221;</p>

<p>I den andra Die Hard-filmen återser vi <a href="http://filmnissen.wordpress.com/?s=%22bruce+willis%22" target="_self">Bruce Willis</a> som den okonventionella New York-snuten John McClane som denna gång befinner sig på en flygplats för att hämta sin fru då han ofrivilligt dras in i en kupp där han måste stoppa ett gäng terrorister som hotar med att krascha planen i luften. Motarbetad av säkerhetspersonalen på flygplatsen krävs det att han tar egna initiativ.</p>
<p>Här är det finske Renny Harlin som axlat regissörsrollen och gör det med bravur. Det smäller och skjuts nästan oavbrutet, men där finns ändå en del själ och hjärta samt en hel del humor, vilket gör filmen intressant och jäkligt underhållande. I mångt och mycket en upprepning av <a href="http://filmnissen.wordpress.com/2009/08/06/die-hard-1988/" target="_self">ettan</a>, men det mesta är ett strå vassare. Samtidigt återser vi flera karaktärer som coola frun, svinaktige tv-reportern och gemytlige polismannen från skyskrapeincidenten i Los Angeles. Intensiv och maffig action av idag traditionellt snitt som också håller tio år senare.</p>

<p>En polisman, spelad av John Cena, griper en ökänd terrorist och i ett försök att fly springer dennes flickvän rakt framför en passerande bil och avlider. Ett år senare har terroristen (Aidan Gillen) rymt från fängelset och som hämnd kidnappar han Cenas tjej och tvingar denne att genomgå tolv ronder/utmaningar för att få henne åter.</p>
<p>Regissören Renny Harlin har tidigare gett oss actionhöjdare som <em>Cliffhanger</em>, <em>Die Hard 2</em> och <em>Long Kiss Goodnight</em>. Efter den sistnämnda började sedan karriären dala med några rejäla bottennapp på meritlistan. Bakom den här filmen står WWE Films (Sätter populära prowrestlingstjärnor i huvudrollen på olika actionfilmer med skiftande resultat) och det var svårt att veta vad man skulle förvänta sig efter ett sådant möte. Resultatet är visserligen föga banbrytande, men fyller ett visst tomrum för den som saknar filmer som Speed och Die Hard. Den är bättre än Cenas första film The Marine och Harlin vet ju hur man kokar ihop bra actionscener. Klichéerna haglar och stundtals är det präktigt värre, men trots detta (eller kanske på grund av det) gillar jag filmen. Trots att jag antagligen borde veta bättre än kanske sätta en tvåa, trotsar jag allt sunt förnuft och fläskar på med riktigt högt betyg. Mer än den förtjänar, men Yippee-ki-yay m*therf*cker.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><em>        </em></strong>No cuesta mucho decir que nos hallamos ante <strong>la mejor película de Renny Harlin</strong>. Lo que tampoco es decir mucho, o, dicho de otra forma, lo que no significa que <em>Cleaner</em> sea una obra maestra. Que no lo es. El realizador de origen finés se labró, por allá finales de los ochenta y los noventa, la fama de director <em>blockbuster</em> en toda regla. Tras filmar el título más lucrativo de la franquicia de Freddie Krueger, <em>Nightmare on Elm Street 4</em>, las puertas de la industria se le abrieron de par en par, y le convirtieron en una suerte de cruce entre un Michael Bay y un James Cameron, por decir, un realizador capaz de llenar las plateas de los cines con productos como la secuela de Jungla de Cristal, <em>Die Hard 2</em>, <em>The Adventures of Ford Fairlane</em>, <em>Cliffhanger </em>y <em>Driven</em> (para lucimiento de Sylvester Stallone), <em>The Long Kiss Goodnight </em>o <em>Deep Blue Sea</em> (estas dos últimas coprotagonizadas por Samuel L. Jackson, que aquí repite). Aunque existen matices cualitativos entre las películas citadas, lo cierto es que no se trata de un bagaje nada llamativo a no ser que usemos como baremo el <em>box-office</em> o, quizá jugando un poco a la sorna, lo involuntariamente hilarantes que resultan algunos pasajes de sus películas, hilaridad que a menudo procede de su despropósito tanto argumental como visual. Nada de ello concurre en esta <strong><em>Cleaner</em>, un <em>thriller</em> entretenido, honesto, con pocas ínfulas, con cierto calado argumental y, quizá sobretodo, mucho menos manierista de lo que es habitual en el género e industria</strong>. Ya digo, no es <em>Cleaner</em> una <em>masterpiece</em>, ni nos asegura que Harlin se convertirá en un realizador admirable, pero sí que nos hallamos ante una proposición cinematográfica bien decente.</p>

<p align="center"><strong><em>Conflictos dramáticos</em></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><em>        </em></strong>Es cierto que lo más interesante de <em>Cleaner</em> reside en la originalidad de su propuesta argumental, que traza un conflicto de personajes a partir de las posibilidades que se extraen del curioso oficio del protagonista, Tom Cutler (un perfectamente comedido Jackson), oficio que da título al filme: se dedica a limpiar entornos insalubres, especialmente los escenarios de una muerte violenta. El propio guionista de la función, Matthew Aldrich, manifestó que el germen de su libreto apareció cuando escuchó una referencia en la radio sobre tan singular profesión. Y en realidad, la trama se abre a partir de la primera opción que a uno cabe ocurrírsele con semejante caldo de cultivo: Cuttler es contratado para limpiar una escena de un crimen y, tras hacerlo, descubre que quien le ha contratado es un anónimo y que la policía no sabía nada del homicidio cometido. Él mismo, policía retirado, empieza a conjeturar sobre la posible autoría de ese crimen, y por otro lado se siente presionado por la posibilidad de que sea él, por su efectivo trabajo de borrar pistas, el principal sospechoso. Sí<strong>, es una premisa esperable, pero precisamente a partir de ella el filme trenza el devenir argumental sin pirotecnias ni golpes de efecto extravagantes, focalizando el relato en los conflictos de hasta cuatro personajes, esto es explotando una vis dramática que resulta bien efectiva, porque está planteada con inteligencia y porque está servida con habilidad y un asumido sentido de la sobriedad</strong>.</p>

<p align="center"><strong><em>Desestructuración familiar</em></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><em>        </em></strong>De hecho, el filme en principio parece engrasar su desarrollo sobre una trama de corrupción policial a gran escala, y aunque en el desenlace de la función esa trama aparente tiene cierto peso, en realidad queda relegada a un conflicto doble y de corte puramente dramático, <strong>arraigado además sobre un solo eje, el de la desestructuración familiar: el proceso de catarsis de un padre (Cuttler) y su hija por la muerte violenta de la esposa y madre acaecido años atrás, y el devenir de una historia de adulterio marcada por un aborto</strong>. De hecho, creo que <em>Cleaner</em> es una obra en la que sólo ciertos resortes de estructura y el recurso a ciertas apariencias falsas (por lo demás, exploradas parcamente) deslindan este <em>thriller</em> de los márgenes puros y duros del drama. Aunque eso poco importa, y sí el hecho de que, a pesar de algunas escenas que recurren al estereotipo, <strong>los personajes son de carne y hueso, actúan bajo una presión congruente y bien explorada en las situaciones de desarrollo, y terminan su trayecto dramático en condiciones distintas pero no menos creíbles de las que marcaron el inicio</strong>. Precisamente la catarsis de la que hablaba entre Cluter y su hija tiene que ver con la revelación de un secreto, el de que Cluter participó y se benefició de la coda corrupta del cuerpo policial, ni que fuera movido por un móvil tan visceral (y por tanto, no lucrativo) como es la venganza. En realidad, tanto él como su amigo Eddie (encarnado, igual de bien, por Ed Harris) comparten un mismo sino, aunque el destino les juzgue de forma distinta. A poco de pensarlo, el desenlace de la función es bien poco complaciente, y además (considerando quién aprieta el gatillo en el clímax de la función) <strong>permite reflexionar sobre un tema recurrente en el cine americano, el arraigo de la violencia en el comportamiento humano</strong>.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><em>        </em></strong>Harlin, quizá consciente de sus limitaciones, aprovecha las <strong>prestaciones más bien intimistas que habitan en el libreto para componer una pieza basada en el minimalismo</strong>, en la que apenas hay panorámicas, que se basa en la acumulación de secuencias a menudo implosivas, en las que destacan los primeros planos a los actores y los insertos de detalle, todo ello, eso sí, muy estilizado. Utilizando como excusa escénica la sistemática higiénica y el concienzudo trabajo del <em>cleaner</em>, Harlin gusta de planificar las secuencias mostrando todo tipo de detalles de los escenarios en los que los personajes se mueven, y dejando por otro lado que sean los actores en sus interacciones quienes se apoderen de la carga emocional que empapa el relato. Dejando de lado algunos fundidos poco convencionales (y nada desdeñables desde un punto de vista meramente plástico), <strong>Harlin abandona todo efectismo en el tratamiento de la historia, e incluso nos ahorra (o casi) los temibles <em>flashbacks</em> ilustrativos de la información que se va dosificando al espectador. Y siendo como es una película de montaje, incluso se permite algún detalle interesante de puesta en escena</strong>. Pienso en la hermosa secuencia en la que se nos muestra a Cutler en su habitación oliendo el perfume de su mujer (la mitad del encuadre fundido en negro, la otra mitad mostrando la escena desde el exterior de la habitación), o en la resolución de la secuencia en la que Cutler le cuenta a Ann Norcut (Eva Mendes) el terrible pasaje del asesinato de su esposa: una angulación en semipicado deja a los personajes en un rincón del encuadre, y en primer plano hay una bombilla que se apaga.</p>

<p><strong>Jonas Brothers: The Concert Experience</strong><br />

<p>It&#8217;s official. I don&#8217;t get the Jonas Brothers.</p>
<p>While I&#8217;m not in Miley Cyrus&#8217; demographic, I get the fact that she is an extremely talented singer and fairly decent young actress. The Jonases, on the other hand, have somehow propelled themselves to the top of the tween music scene without remarkable voices or even memorable songs. At least they play their own instruments, something too few young rock bands appear capable of.</p>
<p>Truth told, it doesn&#8217;t matter if I get the Jo Bros because they are a full-fledged pop music phenomenon, and their movie should appeal to anyone who does get them. The picture is a combination of concert footage and short bits designed to show what their life is like on tour. Some of the bits are obvious set ups, while others at least appear genuine. No matter, though, because the draw is the concert footage.</p>
<p>The Jo Bros roll through a steady stream of their tunes, including &#8220;BB Good,&#8221; &#8220;Burnin&#8217; Up,&#8221; &#8220;Still in Love With You&#8221; and &#8220;Hold On.&#8221; &#8220;The Concert Experience&#8221; even contains a full-fledged music video for &#8220;Love Is On Its Way,&#8221; and the DVD and Blu-ray releases feature four songs that weren&#8217;t shown during the movie&#8217;s theatrical release.</p>
<p>In the grand scheme of concert movies, the film is slight &#8212; give me the Rolling Stones&#8217; &#8220;Shine a Light&#8221; any day &#8212; but it should be embraced by the target audience.</p>
<p>The movie is available on a three-disc Blu-ray release (that also contains a standard DVD) as well as a standard DVD release. Both have extended versions of the film, but only the Blu-ray disc can be viewed in 3D like the movie was released in theaters. Although 3D hasn&#8217;t come of age in the home viewing environment, this set comes as close as any I&#8217;ve seen to reproducing the theatrical experience.</p>

<p>In &#8220;Die Hard With a Vengeance,&#8221; a nutso terrorist orders New York Police Lt. John McClane (Bruce Willis) to take part in a series of elaborate games or watch his city get torn to bits. That movie made more than $350 million worldwide, so screenwriter Daniel Kunka and director Renny Harlin clearly saw value in appropriating the concept for &#8220;12 Rounds.&#8221;</p>
<p>While Harlin&#8217;s and Kunka&#8217;s movie is not a remake of &#8220;Die Hard 3,&#8221; the similarities are worthy of mention. In &#8220;12 rounds,&#8221; New Orleans police officer Danny Fisher (John Cena) apprehends an international terrorist named Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen) and becomes a hero in the process. Unfortunately, Jackson&#8217;s beloved girlfriend is killed during the arrest so, when he escapes prison a year later, he seeks revenge.</p>
<p>Jackson kidnaps Danny&#8217;s girlfriend (Ashley Scott), then sets up a metaphorical boxing match, played out in 12 rounds of elaborate and deadly tests that Danny must complete to get his girl back.</p>
<p>Cena, who gained fame as a professional wrestler, is acceptable in the lead role, but he&#8217;s not nearly as charismatic as Willis was in &#8220;Die Hard 3.&#8221;</p>
<p>That&#8217;s the problem with &#8220;12 Rounds.&#8221; It is not only derivative of &#8220;Die Hard With a Vengeance,&#8221; it&#8217;s inferior in every way. Gillen, whose version of Jackson is supposed to be Irish, regularly slips in and out of accent. Danny is aided by a couple FBI agents who are about as professional as Abbot and Costello. By contrast, Willis was partnered with the always great Samuel L. Jackson in &#8220;Die Hard 3.” Finally, the plotting frequently moves forward using jump cuts that leave important elements of the story unexplained.</p>
<p>About the only thing &#8220;12 Rounds&#8221; does have going for it is a steady dose of reasonably well presented action scenes. If that&#8217;s enough for you, then by all means rent the movie. Just don&#8217;t expect a knockout.</p>
<p>DVD extras include one audio commentary by Harlin and another by Cena and Kunka, a gag reel, alternate endings and a short on Cena&#8217;s stunt work.</p>

<p><strong>Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li</strong><br />

<p>In &#8220;Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li,&#8221; Kristin Kreuk plays the title character, a piano prodigy who becomes a vigilante warrior after her father is kidnapped by an evil businessman named Bison (Neal McDonough).</p>
<p>For roles like Chun-Li, there is a Hollywood hierarchy that goes something like this. One tries to hire Angelina Jolie, but when that doesn’t happen, they get Kate Beckinsale. When they can&#8217;t get Beckinsale, they get Milla Jovovich. And when they can&#8217;t get any of the first three, they get Kreuk.</p>
<p>No offense to Kreuk, as she&#8217;s plenty likable in the &#8220;Smallville&#8221; television series, but she has a long way to go when it comes to feature film. In &#8220;Street Fighter,&#8221; her acting is wooden even when doing voiceover, and her slight build and porcelain-doll looks don’t make her convincing as an action hero.</p>
<p>But enough about Kreuk. She’s hardly the defining flaw of this multi-layered failure. From the beginning, the details are off, starting with the casting of a young Chun-Li who looks distinctly more Chinese than Kreuk, who is of both European and Asian descent.</p>
<p>Move beyond the details and you’ll find characters that carry about as much depth and realism as those in the video game the film takes its name from. For instance, the affable Chris Klein plays an Interpol agent who spends most of his time ogling his beautiful Chinese partner and acting hip. Funny? Kind of. Believable as a law enforcement officer? Yeah right.</p>
<p>Just as in the Street Fighter video games, the plotting is secondary to the action, which might be OK if “Street Figher” director Andrzej Bartkowiak had more visual flair. Sadly, his fight sequences are best described as workmanlike, making them one more bland ingredient in a relentlessly dull action flick.</p>
<p>DVD extras include a filmmakers&#8217; commentary, deleted scenes, video-game-to-movie comparisons, a storyboard gallery and making-of featurettes.</p>

<p><strong>“Princess Protection Program”:</strong> This Disney Channel original movie is coming out on DVD just four days after its June 26 television debut. The film stars Selena Gomez as princess of the tiny nation of Costa Luna. When a covert agent rescues her from a military takeover, he brings her to his home in Louisiana where she must try to fit in with his country-girl daughter (Demi Lovato) and other American teens.</p>
<p><strong>“Eastbound &#38; Down” &#8212; The Complete First Season:</strong> First six episodes of the HBO comedy about a boorish former Major League Baseball pitcher who returns to his hometown middle school to teach physical education. Danny McBride stars.</p>
<p><strong>“Entourage” &#8212; The Complete Fifth Season:</strong> “Entourage” fans can get ready for season six by watching earlier adventures of movie star Vince Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his hometown buddies.</p>
<p><strong>“The IT Crowd” &#8212; The Complete Second Season:</strong> More of the British sitcom about inept information technology workers in a large, London-based corporation.</p>
<p><strong>“Secret Diary of a Callgirl” &#8212; Season Two:</strong> The continuing adventures of Hannah Baxter (Billie Piper), a high-end escort balancing “work” with her personal life. The show was a hit in England before going on to similar success as a Showtime drama.</p>
<p><strong>“Two Lovers”:</strong> Romantic drama starring Joaquin Phoenix as a man coming off a bad breakup, Vinessa Shaw as the woman his parents hope he’ll spark to, and Gwyneth Paltrow as a needy woman working through her own set of emotional problems.</p>
<p><strong>“The Lucille Ball Specials”:</strong> Two of Ball’s television specials &#8212; “Lucy Gets Lucky” and “Three for Two” &#8212; on one release. The latter show features three mini comedies and features Jackie Gleason as a co-star. “Lucy Gets Lucky” has Ball playing a star-struck woman who heads to Las Vegas to see her favorite entertainer, Dean Martin.</p>
<p><strong>“Tokyo!”:</strong> Anthology film focused on Tokyo, Japan, with segments by directors Michel Gondry (“Enternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Leos Carax (“The Lovers on the Bridge”) and Bong Joon-ho (“The Host).</p>
<p><strong>“Nostradamus &#8212; 2012:”</strong> History special considering the prophet Nostradamus’ doomsday prediction for the year 2012.</p>
<p><strong>“Jockeys”:</strong> Documentary detailing the personalities and extraordinary feats of seven high-profile jockeys. Originally shown as a reality series on Animal Planet, the action plays out over 14 episodes on two DVDs.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Me extraña que una película con este reparto no se haya estrenado en más salas. Además tampoco es que sea tan mala; hay muchos ejemplos de películas bastante peores estrenadas con mucho más despliegue. Ésta no será la última maravilla, pero me pareció una historia de intriga bastante aceptable.</p>
<p>Samuel L. Jackson es un policía retirado que ahora se dedica a la curiosa profesión de limpieza de escenas del crimen. Un miembro de ese silencioso sector económico que vive de la muerte de otras personas, junto con funerarias, abogados especializados en testamentos, fabricantes de ataudes, tanatoprácticos, etc.</p>
<p>La muerte no es agradable, ni limpia, y poca gente sabe que, una vez que la policía y los servicios médicos han hecho su trabajo, los encargados de limpiar al final no son otros que los propios familiares de la persona fallecida. Como esta tarea no suele ser agradable, el trabajo se encarga a una empresa especializada como la de nuestro protagonista.</p>
<p>Un día, después de realizar uno de sus trabajos, se da cuenta de que alguien le ha tendido una trampa. La escena del crimen que acaba de limpiar escrupulosamente todavía no había sido descubierta por la policía, y ahora se busca a una persona desaparecida que vivia en la casa en la que hizo su trabajo. Casualmente, esa persona era un testigo que iba a declarar en un importante caso de corrupción policial, en el que el protagonista había estado implicado años atrás, con lo que, si es descubierto, puede que las sospechas caigan sobre él. A partir de ese momento intentará descubrir, ayudado por su mejor amigo, policía, y la mujer del &#8220;desaparecido&#8221;, quién le ha tendido la trampa.</p>

<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Il documentario di <strong>Giuseppe Carrisi</strong>, “<strong>Voci dal buio</strong>”, racconta, incrociandole, storie di ragazzi della camorra e di bambini congolesi che vivono nella guerra, nella povertà, nella violenza.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Anche se geograficamente lontane, queste due realtà hanno un comune denominatore: i bambini sono vittime designate di una logica perversa che nega e calpesta sistematicamente i loro diritti. Da una parte l<strong>a Repubblica Democratica del Congo</strong>, con il suo “<strong>esercito</strong>” di <strong>bambini soldato</strong>, di piccoli sfruttati nei lavori pesanti, abbandonati, vittime della fame e delle malattie; di bambine abusate, di minori accusati di atti di “stregoneria” o rinchiusi nelle carceri; <strong>dall’altra, un quartiere del capoluogo campano</strong> dove esiste un “<strong>esercito</strong>” simile, <strong>composto di piccoli soldati</strong>, anche se <strong>non è ugualmente visibile</strong>: quello delle giovani “<strong>leve</strong>” delle c<strong>osche criminali che dettano legge in tutta la zona</strong>.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Un destino segnato dalla <strong>necessità di sopravvivere in un paese marchiato da atroci conflitti</strong>, guerre, e dalla quotidiana lotta per la sopravvivenza dove i bambini sono costretti a combattere ogni giorno, da un lato, e, dall’altro <strong>un destino ugualmente marcato a fuoco dalla nascita</strong>, ma dove l<strong>a scelta di “combattere” è molto diversa</strong>: si sceglie un “<strong>ideale</strong>“, uno “<strong>stile di vita</strong>” per raggiungere un potere ben preciso e stabilito dalla camorra: il miraggio della ricchezza, dei soldi facili. In Congo non c’è scelta, perché si viene arruolati e basta, si finisce in miniera, per strada, si è costretti a lottare per sopravvivere.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">A <strong>Barra</strong> il contesto di disagio sociale e di disoccupazione strutturale presenta ai bambini un solo modello vincente: quello del camorrista. Un modello che li porta in una c<strong>ella del carcere di Nisida</strong> &#8211; l’ahimè notissimo penitenziario minorile napoletano, cui già <strong>Nanni Loy</strong>, con il suo musical “<strong>Scugnizzi</strong>“, aveva dedicato sequenze memorabili – se non all’autodistruzione. In molti casi, i giovani di Barra non sanno di “<strong>appartenere</strong>” al sistema, credono di viverne i privilegi, i lussi, gli abiti firmati, i telefonini, la droga facile.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">In <strong>Congo</strong> i fucili sono vere e proprie “<strong>armi da guerra</strong>“, a <strong>Barra</strong> una <strong>pistola può diventare un simbolo di potere</strong> per<strong> comandare</strong>, <strong>guadagnare</strong>, ed offrire una possibilità di <strong>affermarsi nel mondo del consumismo sfrenato</strong>.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Insomma a <strong>Barra</strong> come a <strong>Goma</strong>, <strong>le vite dei bambini vengono buttate via come se non avessero alcun valore.</strong></p>

<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Ammesso che non esca, in Italia, (come pure pare sia possibile),<strong> a partire dal 22.01.2010</strong>, occhio, signori, che qui siamo di fronte a <strong>Tom Hooper</strong> classe 1962,<strong> un regista ed autore </strong>(per non dire <strong>sceneggiatore</strong>) eminentemente televisivo.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Per la serie &#8220;<em><strong>nemo profeta in patria</strong></em>&#8221; &#8230; (ed io credetemi ne so qualcosa), se non a fronte di risultati tangibili ed inaspettati, contro tutti i pronostici degli addetti ai lavori (che troppo spesso e non sono in Italia non sono affatto competenti come uno s&#8217;immagina), questo è un film che a me interessa molto e che segnalo alla vostra cortese attenzione.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Magari, se siete dei <strong>senior-manager</strong>, e guardate questo film, e traete qualche spunto di riflessione circa il modo con cui credete di avere chiara la situazione circa il valore dei vostri manager.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Ecco se c&#8217;è qualcosa di contemporaneo nel cinema è quello di parlare del passato (anche recente magari) ma mordendo il contemporaneo.</p>

<p><strong>Trama</strong>: Il detective Danny Baxter scopre che la sua ragazza è stata rapita da un ex-carcerato legato al suo passato, e dovrà superore 12 sfide affinchè venga rilasciata sana e salva.</p>

<p style="padding-left:30px;">Non fa niente per una vota.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Potreste (uso non a caso il condizionale ipotetico e non fidatevi dei siti istituzionali che dicono ciò), accettare di lasciare a casa lo sguardo super-accigliato e, soprattutto, l&#8217;eventuale predisposizione all&#8217;incredulità, ed avere modo di divertirvi (?)</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Solo perché Harlin, con la collaborazione di John Cena (che ha studiato i Van Damme, gli Stallone, i Seagal e, ovviamente, Bruce Willis, non cerca di imitarli) porta sullo schermo un film d&#8217;azione che sa di dover parlare a un pubblico che in larga parte ha aggiunto al proprio Dna visivo il numero 24 e quindi gira e monta a ritmo vertiginoso non disdegnando lo split screen?</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">E perché magari sti&#8217; paraculi, &#8230; ops che dico questi geni del cinema, citano (a sproposito?) un classico come Point Break in una scena di inseguimento e gioca alcuni dei suoi assi nel prologo?</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">O magari solo perché nei 10 + 10 minuti del film, con un montaggio dei caratteri degli antagonisti e con la narrazione del loro fortuito incontro si (tenta di arrabberciare la costruzione di una tensione che poi si tradurrà, nelle dodici prove (che chi ha fatto studi classici non potrà riferire, assolutamente indegnamente, ad Ercole)?</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">Noi pensiamo che siamo al solito ennesimo tentativo di sola.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;"><span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>2 stars virgola cinque.</strong></span></p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">E ci dispiace avere questo sospetto, ma noi non siamo un sito di cinema, siamo piuttosto una contro informazione accorta, che tende ad indirizzare la spesa della visione di una film nelle sale, verso le vere (poche) pellicole che meritano, anche se durano 41 minuti.</p>

<p><strong>Trama</strong>: Un brillante uomo in carriera improvvisamente perde il suo fiuto negli affari. In bilico nel lavoro, l&#8217;uomo si lascerà aiutare dalla figlia e dal suo mondo immaginario.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">E&#8217; un peccato penso, mentre scrivo di questo film.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">Io ricordo Eddy  Murphy come un grande comico ed un grande interpete di pellicole del calibro di &#8220;<strong>Una poltrona per due</strong>&#8221; di <strong>Jhon Landis</strong> (a proposito qualcuno mi sa dire che fine ha fatto il maestro?)</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;text-align:justify;">E poi scopro che fanno uscire a fine luglio, nel giorno in cui, per dire, SKY Cinema, ovviamente in Italia, lancia il nuovo canale satellitare dedicato al cinema italiano  (il primo film sarà &#8220;<strong>Il Gattopardo&#8221; &#8211; di Luchino Visconti</strong>) un film come questo che intendiamoci avrà pure nel cast il mitico attore ma è un film di terza o quarta scelta.</p>
