Conquista um hexacampeonato estadual, maior seqüência de vitórias na história do profissionalismo no futebol paranaense, e chega em quinto lugar na primeira edição do campeonato brasileiro, de 1971.

Em 1977, o nome do estádio é alterado para Major Antônio Couto Pereira, em homenagem ao falecido presidente do clube.

A década de 80 inicia-se em alto estilo, e o Coxa fica em terceiro no campeonato brasileiro de 1980.

Mas o grande ano do time é 1985.

Com um elenco modesto (do qual fazia parte o goleirão Rafael, e seu bigodão, que dizem terperdido a orelha num jogo, ao enroscar-se com a rede do gol…), e comandados por Ênio Andrade o Coritiba chega a final contra o não menos desacreditado Bangu.

A final, em pleno Maracanã é decidida nos penaltys. Veja como foi:

Campeão nacional, o Coxa participa da Libertadores da América de 1986, mas faz uma campanha discreta.

Em 1987, lembro bastante do Coritiba porque ele foi um dos times a disputar a Copa União (e consequentemente estar em um dos melhores álbuns brasileiros de figurinhas de futebol).

Em 1988 o Coritiba quase cai para a segunda divisão paranaense.

Em 1989, apósperder o mando de campo, o time foi obrigado a enfrentar o Santos em Juiz de Fora, um dia antes de jogar contra o Vasco. O time compra a briga e ganha na justiça comum o direito de adiar a partida. Assim, não enfrenta o Santos e como punição é rebaixado pela CBF para a Série B.

O time só retornaria à primeira divisão em 1995, no último jogo sendo disputado contra nada menos que o rival Atlético Paranaense, e veja como foi:

Em 1997 o Coxa é campeão do Festival Brasileiro de Futebol.

Em 1998 foi eliminado pela Portuguesa nas quartas-de-final.

Em 2002, brilha como uma das melhores equipes do campeonato brasileiro e lança o projeto de clube-empresa.

Em 2003 chega em quinto no Campeonato Brasileiro e conquista o direito de disputar a segunda Libertadores da América de sua história.

Mas no ano seguinte é novamente eliminado precocemente da competição sulamericana.

Em 2005, o time foi rebaixado para a Série B da competição, assim como Atlético Mineiro, Paysandu e Brasiliense.

Em 2007, conquista o acesso à Serie A do Campeonato Brasileiro, sagrando-se campeão da Série B .

E agora, em 2009, o time está lutando para não cair novamente.

A arquibancada é mesmo muito grande, principalmente quando você está sozinho no estádio…

Fomos muito bem recebidos pelo assessor de imprensa do clube, mesmo sendo no mesmo dia em que ele iria apresentar o novo técnico do time (na época Ivo Wortmann)

O estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira é o maior do Paraná, e hoje tem capacidade para 37.182 pessoas. Vale lembrar que alguns torcedores o chamam de Alto da Glória (nome do bairro).

O mascote do Coritiba é um velhinho, o Vovô Coxa, em alusão ao time ser o mais antigo do Paraná:
