To em choque ainda… sério. Mas enfim, o que é uma coisa ou outra? Ou tudo? Não entendeu nada? Vou explicar…

Eu a tempos, faço parte de um grupo de desenvolvedores e profissionais na área de TI, denominado Project Aces.
Este grupo é fechado, e se reune através de chats, ircs e conferências. As vagas são estritas à um número, e só é aceito um novo membro, caso um anterior saia da equipe.

A um tempo atras, devido à algumas coisas, solicitei meu afastamento temporário. Tanto motivos pessoais como auxiliar mais o Cronus (que sou Administrador), Mozilla Firefox (que sou representante líder da América do Sul) e ao Fedora (como embaixador brasileiro) me motivaram à isso.

Mas a um mês mais ou menos, reativei meu “assento” junto ao Project Aces, e voltei à ocupar meu antigo cargo, de Gerente de Projetos.

Ja a Infinity Wards é uma subsidiária da Activision, sendo a Activision uma das maiores produtoras de Games, e a Infinity Wards, escolhida como a melhor desenvolvedora da América.

Após a Infinity Wards, sabe-se la como, pedir uma indicação ao Project Aces de um Gerente de TI, eles me indicaram, e agora, pediram pra que eu envie um “Resume” meu para aplicar para a vaga.

Well, que gosta de mim, torça! Porque postei aqui? Precisava contar pra alguém!

Victoria and Esquimalt Search Plan for Saturday November 28th

Friends, Family and Volunteers,

We have scheduled a search and canvassing effort for the Victoria and Esquimalt area (as defined by the map below) in order to help spread the message about Pierre. We will be putting up posters, talking to people and businesses.

General Request for Volunteers: We are looking for volunteers in the Victoria community to help. If you are available, please join us on Saturday. We won’t know exactly how many volunteers we have until we perform a headcount in the morning, but will split into teams covering each zone and distribute the kits (maps, posters and contact numbers).

If you expect to show up after the search begins, please e-mail Dylan (dylan@findpierre.com) with your contact information so we can get in touch. When you arrive you will be directed to join a team.

When: Saturday November 28th
Time: 10 AM sharp
Location: Capital Iron Parking Lot (located across the street from Capital Iron, look for beige Ford Ranger truck in the parking lot)
Clothing: Warm waterproof clothing, sturdy footwear
Bring: Cell phone, staple gun/tape, money for parking (if driving)

Our First Recipe Request

CY’s Chicken Casserole

Ingredients

1 tbs olive oil

25g (1oz) butter

8 chicken thighs

2 onions, peeled and chopped

1 garlic clove, crushed

2 celery sticks, trimmed and chopped

25g (1oz) plain flour

300ml (1/2 pint) dry cider

150ml (1/4 pint) chicken stock

1 tbs Worcestershire Sauce

Salt

Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Bouquet Garni

Preparation time is about 15mins and cooking time is about 1hr15mins. Serves 4 people.

Procedure:

1) Heat the oil and butter together in a flameproof casserole dish (or an ovenproof dish) and fry the chicken pieces until browned all over. Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and put to one side. Add the onion, garlic and celery to the fat remaining in the pan and fry gently for 4-5 minutes until soft and lightly coloured. Sprinkle the flour into the onions and cook for 1minute, stirring.

2) Remove from the heat and gradually blend in the cider, chicken stock, and Worcestershire Sauce. Return to the heat, bring to the boil and simmer for 1 minute, stirring. Add salt and pepper to taste.

3) Return the chicken to the pan and add the bouquet garni. Cover closely with a lid or foil and cook in a pre-heated oven for 50-60 minutes or until the chicken is very tender. If the sauce looks a little thin, reduce it by gently boiling. Seasoning is everything, little by little – don’t overdo it!

4) Serve with really creamy mash – so, boil Maris Piper potatoes (about 6 large ones) until tender. Bung in about 2oz of butter and unfortunately (to make it taste a million times better) buy a small pot of double cream and throw in half. If you can buy a packet of chives as well, snip them and put them in and put them in after you’ve really mashed the butter and the cream into the potato as well. Season the potatoes properly, taste as you go – cannot emphasize enough, little by little. You choose your veg to serve it with!

Perfect for this weather, really delicious, not wildly expensive. What more can you ask for?! It may not be a ‘trendy’ recipe but it’s bloody good! Any problems get in touch with Colonel Yum. Good luck E.M. – don’t burn down the house!

Volunteer Request for Concentrated DTES Search, Daytime

As Paula mentioned on Sunday, we are planning to continue our Downtown Eastside search with a more concentrated effort. This is in part based on some feedback we’ve received from the DTES community at large.

The time commitment is roughly 1-1.5hr min: from 0730 to 0900 and 1130 to 1300 and will involve canvassing specific areas. Ideally we would like to have 3-4 people cover each time slot, everyday for a week.

I have this javame library I have been compiling for a while. It has a lot of small small code snippets and classes I use often, there is a database part where I have tried as much as possible to encapsulate parts of the saving/retrieving parts of RMS, there is also the UI part, which is what I want to talk about today.

This part contains a TickerForm, which is a form that can show scrollable contents pulled from database or URL at intervals(I am yet to finish it) and the second thing is the Controllable form. This form has a Controller that you can use to service the form(just like posting a form through POST). You call the submit() method of the form and the service method of the controller is called. The service method stores the values of items of the form in a Properties object(which is basically a key-value pair). A code is worth more than a thousand words they say, so here we are

You should draw your attention to two places, the contructor and the commandAction in the init() method. In the super constructor, you pass in a Controller, the controller have a service method, which handles the forms submit() and stores response-code and reponse-text keys and values in the Properties passed to it. These keys are used in the commandAction to get the response code and value. Any other value(or object for that matter) that you want to send back as response can be stored in the Properties object.

I think this suite of classes would be useful for anyone interested in Java ME development. Try it out and let me know your feedbacks.
