It’s funny how we see ourselves in our family.  But though the resemblance is there, we all look unique…unless you’re a twin…or a triplet…or…  But maybe I didn’t phrase that right.  Let me expound.  I was noticing how many of us on my mother’s side have auburn hair.  Most of us have naturally curly hair but only a few got the dark, flamey red tones that dye’s can’t readily duplicate. 

     My grandfather had it and I have no idea where he comes from as he was adopted.  But he passed that red gene on to my mother and through her to me.  He also passed it on through my Aunt Sara to her two daughters.  All of us are tall and solid but lean.  In fact, I am the shortest of us in this generation at 5′9″. 

     We are Amazon stock according to the opinions of an awful lot of people and tend to make a rather noticable entrance into a room.  We are all pale-skinned and have rather sharp, feyish features, long legs and strong but friendly personalities.  I fit in but do not blend in.  Too much of my father’s blood in me for that.

     The women on my father’s side of the family have darker tones.  Most have dark brown or black hair and darker skin.  Most of their eyes vary from dark blue to dark brown.  We have large and intense, almond-shaped eyes and high cheekbones.  Our mannerisms are very much alike, our ways of moving, of talking and of laughing.  It is this side of the family with whom I can most identify. 

     Price women are smaller, quieter but no less intense in either appearance or personality.  There is profound depth in their gazes and they are all more than what they seem.  I do not share their coloring but no one can deny my resemblance.  I fit in but do not blend in.

     I have Price eyes but their dark grey color belongs to me alone on either side of my family.  I am the only one who has gold, jagged lines surrounding the pupil, something my son said looked like an eclipse (I don’t know if he meant it as a compliment but I took it as such).  I am moon pale but the spray of freckles on my face somehow manages to make me look “exotic” rather than “cute” or jovial.  I am tall and slender but not willowy, though I have the capacity to be and have been before.  It makes me marvel sometimes that we can all be so alike and yet so distinctly different.

     …And I don’t know who in the family is responsible for “the look” – I am, of course, referring to the one that got me into trouble numerous times as a child whilst being completely unaware of it’s presence.  The same “look” that made me seem like a haughty bitch at first glance to my best friend.  But if you ask her today, she’ll tell you I’m the silliest, nerdiest, most soft-hearted person on the planet.  I’m a sap for animals and I’m dorky enough to admit that I leaf through a thesaurus for fun.  I’ve never thought myself particularly pretty (just…different in a good-weird way) but I know I’m unique and I can happily live with that.

     I also know that I can look in the mirror and see a lot of the people I love stamped into my features.  Family has always meant a great deal to me and having that physical resemblance to another person makes me feel like I belong.  I am made of the same stuff and no matter what goes on in their lives or in mine, when push comes to shove, we are there for one another.  I am proud to be who I am.

Fox face is a common fall plant that city residents bring into their homes. I was surprised that it does not require water, and will last two months. It is a fruit related to eggplant and tomato, and has the name “fox face” because of its resemblance to the animal. Some of the fruits have what appear to be ears, but not this one. It make a nice alternative to pumpkins.

Amber, a member of the new girl group f(x), has been gathering a lot of attention for her androgynous looks. With her resemblance to her labelmates Donghae of Super Junior and Jonghyun of Shinee, she is one hot topic amongst Netizens.

Amber, who has been in Korea for almost year and a half says “I’m really close to KARA’s Nicole. Since we can converse in English, it is more comfortable for the both of us.”

Even though she is known for her boyish looks, in real life, she has very cute features and is known to be very respectful, bowing 90 degrees to others in music programs.

matching looks…

The use of graphology (handwriting analysis) assumes that handwriting reflects basic personality traits. Handwriting analysis thus has some resemblance to projective personality tests, although graphology’s validity is highly suspect.

In graphology, the handwriting analyst studies an applicant’s handwriting and signature to discover the person’s needs, desires, and psychological makeup.According to a graphologist the writing examplifies uneven pressure, poor rhythm, and unseen baselines. The variation of light and dark lines show a “lack of control” and is “one strong indicator of the writer’s inner disturbance.”

Graphology’s place in screening sometimes seems schizophrenic. Studies suggest it is generally not valid, or that when graphologists do accutrately size up candidates, it’s because they are also privy to other background information. Yet some firms continue to use graphology—indeed, to swear by it. It tends to be bigger in Europe, where “countries like France or Germany have one central graphology institute, which serves as the certifying body.”

I was laughing throughout the movie, Ice Age 3.

Sid, the Sloth, resembles my boss way too much. The way it looks, talks, walk, stand.. whatever. I was actually suspecting that the sloth was modelled after him. Otherwise, how on earth can the resemblance be so strong?!? Well, maybe I’m thinking too much. But then again, maybe I should just email him Sid’s picture and tease him a little with the caption “I thought I just had a 2-hour meeting with you in the cinema”. *Giggles*

But well.. Sloth = Boss, Sloth = Laziness, then.. Boss = Laziness? Hmmm, thinking further, I probably wouldn’t want to trade my career progression for a little joke. Heh.

Hi there, my dear boss!

Too bad, I know he’ll never get to read this post. But if he does.. tsk tsk.. I wonder what search word did he use to get to my blog. Horny man that acts decent. Tsk tsk. 

Resemblance. My life: in pieces. My thinking: in fragments.

From what people have told me, I bear a striking resemblance to my dad and Bettina looks a hell of a lot like my mom.

I don’t see it. I really don’t.

When I look at myself in the mirror, I just see myself. When I look at Bettina, all I see is Bettina. I don’t think I look like my dad at all, nor does Bettina look anything like my mom, but people seem to be convinced otherwise.

I’ve looked through old kodak photos, homevideos, passport photos, ids, and several hundreds and thousands of saved images under ‘My Documents’, placed them side by side, compared every pixel of wretched detail, and I’ve still been unable to pinpoint the “striking” similaraties between me and my dad or my sister and my mother. Why? Why is that? What is it that I don’t see? What is that that everyone else sees, including both parents and sisters, that I don’t? I feel like everyone else (everyone but me that is) is in on the joke. I–I just don’t get it. I don’t get it, and I don’t see it.

I look at my dad, and I see someone who has exceptionally poor communication skills. He doesn’t know how to talk to people. He stammers and stutters, jumbles up his words, and babbles on about particulars and things of little importance. He’s exactly like me.

I see me my mom, she has a temper the size of a hippo. Mood swings comparable to that of a pre-menstrual woman on crack, but ONLY when she’s around my sister. Her arguments are one-sided. She’s overly emotional, and she makes a point to hyperbolize every problem, no matter how small, into cosmic proportions. My sister–likewise (although she is beginning to realize that there is actually 2 sides to an argument, she’s still unable to avoid abrupt and uninhibited screaming matches with my mother).

It’s sad how I can’t seem to hold a conversation with my dad any longer than 2 minutes. We’re so much alike–the way we’re both so socially inept and awkward around people. The way we can’t seem to verbalize what we want to say or what we want people to know, because it’s so hard to articulate your emotions when you have no control over them.

It’s sad watching them yell back and forth about the same thing over and over and over again. Nothing ever gets resolved, especially when they’re both so adamant in admitting they’re wrong. They just end up in tears, burnt, confused, and without resolution.

My mom and my sister / My dad and me, we’re both so much alike; I see it better than anyone else.
