One of my customer’s team member had destroy the Hyper-V Cluster by mistake. He formatted the cluster nodes without evict them before doing that . The nodes of the clsuter used to be part of old cluster that was destroyed by mistake.

I tried to build the nodes again from the scratch and Create new cluster, When I run the validation wizard I got this error:

Cluster disk with identifier (identifier) has a persistent reservation on it ,the disk might be part of other cluster. removing the disk from other validation set.

My SAN is HP EVA. The Cluster is not able to see any of my LUNS although I can see them from disk management and can’t create the cluster.

This error due to the fact that the LUNs still keeping the old identifiers from the old cluster, You have to use Cluster command line to clear the reservation by that command:

cluster.exe node %nodename% /clear:disknumber

Now everything should work fine and you can pass the validation wizard

Not sure where I got this from, but its great troubleshooting info for SCSI conflicts.

To identify if SCSI reservation conflicts are preventing a LUN from being accessed:
Verify that the LUN is detected by the ESX host at boot time.

For ESX 3.x, run the command:

# cd /vmfs/devices/disks
# ls vmh*

The output appears similar to:

vmhba0:0:0:0
vmhba0:0:43:0
vmhba0:0:52:0

For ESX 4.X, run the command:

# esxcfg-scsidevs -c

The output appears similar to:

Device UID Device Type Console Device Size Plugin Display Name
eui.00000e1100b81bfc Direct-Access /dev/sda 70007MB NMP Local FUJITSU Disk (eui.00000e1100b81bfc)
mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0 CD-ROM /dev/sr0 0MB NMP Local HL-DT-ST CD-ROM (mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0)
mpx.vmhba3:C0:T0:L0 Direct-Access /dev/cciss/c0d0 34727MB NMP Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba3:C0:T0:L0)

If the LUN is not listed, rescan the storage. For more information, see Performing a rescan of the storage (1003988).

Check dmesg. Look for lines that may provide some information if the LUN is having an issue:

Vendor: EMC Model: SYMMETRIX Rev: 5771
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
sdh : READ CAPACITY failed.
status = c, message = 00, host = 0, driver = 00
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
scsi0 (0,0,52) : RESERVATION CONFLICT
VMWARE: Device that would have been attached as scsi disk sdh at scsi0,
channel 0, id 0, lun 52
Has not been attached because this path could not complete a READ
command eventhough a TUR worked.
result = 0×18 key = 0×0, asc = 0×0, ascq = 0×0
VMWARE: Device that would have been attached as scsi disk sdh at scsi0,
channel 0, id 0, lun 52
Has not been attached because it is a duplicate path or on a passive
path
scan_scsis starting finish
scan_scsis done with finish

In this example, LUN 52 is inaccessible in the ESX host cluster. Since it is listed in the output of step one, it was accessible at some point (a host reserved the LUN and never released it, possibly due to a SAN switch reboot in the middle of the reservation operation).
To resolve this:
For ESX 3.0, examine all hosts for any pending reservations with the command:

# tail -1 /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba[0-9]/[0-9]:*

The output appears similar to:

==> /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba0/0:0  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba0/0:43  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba0/0:44  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba0/0:45  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba0/0:46  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba1/0:50  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba1/0:51  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba1/0:52  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba1/0:53  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba1/0:54  /proc/vmware/scsi/vmhba2/0:0 <==
Active: 0 Queued: 0 Reserved: N Pending Reserves: 0

The ESX host that has Pending Reserves with a value that is larger than 0 is holding the lock.

For ESX 3.5 and 4.0, examine all hosts (also applies to hosts for any pending reservations) with the command:

# esxcfg-info | egrep -B5 “s Reserved|Pending”

The output appears similar to:

Note: Not all of the output is shown.

Tribal reservations can be found in a number of areas in Southern California, notably in areas such as in or near the cities of the Coachella Valley such as Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Indio and Coachella as well as in or near Anza, Cabazon, Temecula, San Jacinto, El Cajon, Pala, in the counties of Riverside, San Diego as well as in Santa Ynez in the county of Santa Barbara.

If you have a Tribal law issue not involving a casino, visit our law firm website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com for more information and call us at any of the numbers easily found on our website.

Unless you’ve been practicing Indian Tribal Law for some years, it is difficult for most attorneys in the United States to know how Tribal Law works, much less to find useful resources to help explain this unique area of law.

Most tribes vest their legislative authority in a tribal council. Some tribes call it by a different name, but the council members are usually elected and for a specific number of years.

Most tribal constitutions call for there to be a tribal chairman who is alternatively sometimes called president or governor. Some tribes elect the tribal chairman by a vote of their council. Others elect the tribal chairman by the voting tribal members.

Tribal bylaws often state that it is the chairman’s duty to preside over the tribal council. The role or power of the tribal chairman differs from tribe to tribe.

Indian tribes also have a long history of tribal courts. Today, most tribal courts administer tribal codes passed by the tribal council and which have been approved at some time by the Secretary of the Interior.

Tribal court systems can by highly structured with tribal prosecutors and defense advocates. Others are made up of informal single judges who work only part-time. Many tribes elect their tribal judges, commonly for a fixed set of years.

Indian tribes also often have a tribal attorney who often has a large influence on tribal affairs, particularly in dealings with non-tribal parties. The tribal attorney has responsibility to the entire tribe, not to its individual members.

Some tribes are incorporated under the provisions of the Indian Reorganization Act. Some tribes have voted to reject application of that Act.

Indian Tribes have sovereignty which means the inherent right to govern themselves. Tribes, however, have no authority over non-members on non-Indian fee lands, and no criminal authority over non-Indians anywhere.

Tribal sovereignty acts as a shield against state law intrusion onto Indian country. States may not directly tax reservation land or reservation Indians. Tribes enjoy sovereign immunity from suit except for suits by the United States. A tribe does not waive its immunity by bringing an action on its own. A tribe may however waive its sovereign immunity by contract. It is for this reason that we don’t handle cases against Indian Casinos in California.

If you have a Tribal or Native American legal issue not involving a casino in California, visit our law firm website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com and call the law firm of R. Sebastian Gibson for a consultation today.

Scheduling a Genius Bar or One to One training session appointment has never been that difficult. Just go to Apple’s (s aapl) web site, enter some information, and you’re done. But a new rumor over at AppleInsider suggests that it’s about to become even easier, thanks to a new in-house developed iPhone app that could be forthcoming soon from Apple.

News of the app comes via a “source that has proven reliable in the past,” though no further information is given. The app is said to be able to create appointments for both Genius Bar and One to One, and to view membership details for programs that require a subscription. No word yet on a street date for the app.

Presumably the app would allow users to make any kind of reservation currently only available online, including a personal shopping appointment. Although the web site system currently employed is easy enough to understand and use, I imagine a dedicated iPhone app designed by Apple would make the process so easy and intuitive that I’d probably actually use it far more than I currently do, particularly for personal shopping when new products launch.

MacRumors corroborates the report via separate sources, so it seems likely that the Concierge app will be forthcoming. I’d expect it to appear before the holidays, so that shoppers can take advantage of it pre-gift giving, and people on the receiving end of Apple products can use it after the holidays to schedule appointments.

The Concierge app would be the latest move in a series of efforts focused on improving Apple’s retail performance, including in-store pickup for holiday shoppers, more and improved stores, and the new EasyPay touch system.

Soit.

CQFD

# 1 on the ‘Soon 2 B Extinct Species’ – Marathi Manoos – championed by the aptly titled SS and its progeny – the MNS

Both these Sena’s have lots of time. And hate. They also possess lots of petrol, stones, hockey sticks etc. They take me back in time to the Bollywood of the glorious 80’s. But let me not digress.

This MM is frailer than your old grandmother, grandmother, orphan, handicapped who is abandoned, on the road, doesn’t have work or relatives or social support – who begs on the streets, at numerous crossings, tapping on your air-conditioned, frost-bitten rolled-up windows of your XYZ sedan.

The MM can die of hurt caused by talk of all kinds – ‘I like India’ and bingo they lose a tooth…er you lose it.

If you say ‘I love India’ then entire gene structures of the MM mutate. They vibrate at higher speeds than the 2 particles traveling in the ever – crashing Large Hadron Collider.

‘I like Mughlai’ say you? That could possibly be the last words out of your treacherous mouth.

‘I like a Nude’ and and…forget about it.

MM in fact has come as a savior to the entire women species of India. No longer are women considered the weaker of the species. MM has been categorized as the weakest of the lot. And it is reliably learnt that the SS and the MNS are proud wearers of his badge of honour. They in fact want this exalted status to be made permanent so that benefits can accrue to their scared lot.

Meanwhile Indian women groups are busy putting aside their differences and sending a delegation to Bombay to congratulate both the SS and the MNS for giving the final shove in the centuries old struggle.

They are however only worried about 1 thing – giving up the reserved seats on BEST buses to the Marathi Manoos.

MM can’t compete with the illiterate Bhaiyya coming from UP and Bihar. MM cannot get jobs also when competing with some of the literates coming out of the said backward provinces.

In additional news, which is already being confirmed as unadulterated speculation or rumor, the Big Boss evictee motor-mouth KRK has launched his next film called ‘Marathi Manhoos’ to whip up frenzy, polarize his audience and earn money right on the table. He says he has learnt the art of polarizing from the SS and MNS.

It is common knowledge that more than 250,000 students vie to get into the prestigious Indian Instit

It is common knowledge that more than 250,000 students vie to get into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) every year. With a conversion rate of around 1%, the IIMs boast of being one of the toughest management institutes to get admission into. This supposedly guarantees recruiters of finding the best brains of the country here.

Sadly for the students and alumni of IIMs, in the coming years the IIM brand is going to come under question more than ever. The class of 2012 of the flagship PGDM programs at IIMs will see the third and final phase of implementation of the Mandal Commission’s recommendations by the government. This will take the proportion of reserved seats to a staggering 49.5%.

This of course means that the classroom has students of vastly different intellectual capabilities. Let’s take the CAT percentile as an indicator of a student’s ability. Historically, IIM students typically had high percentiles between 97 and 100 – meaning they scored better than 97% of test takers. However, now it is not uncommon for students scoring as low as 60 to 80 percentile to be part of this classroom. As can be seen in actual classrooms and by the industry as well, all IIM grads are not the brightest managers in the country today.

During placements, recruiters have already started making requests for the reservation status of the candidates, which of course are politely turned down. If we think from any recruiter’s point of view, there is tremendous competition among firms to bag the best candidates out of the lot. Recruiting MBAs is a high stakes game for most companies, given the salaries they pay to get the best talent in India. Practically speaking, it is natural for them to try and find out the quota status of an applicant or if nothing else, the CAT score and CGPA. Hell, I would try and do it if I were in their place. Ultimately, companies will tire out from not being assured of quality students and would increase their intake from institutes without quota implementation, if not giving a complete thumbs down to IIM campuses.

ISB has already demonstrated what an institute with autonomy in policy making and industry support can accomplish – it stood 15th globally in the latest Financial Times rankings, far ahead of any other Indian B-schools. Without autonomy in policy making including faculty salaries decisions, I foresee that in the coming years private institutions like MDI, IMI, XLRI, SP Jain etc would steadily gain ground and surpass the IIMs in parameters like the quality of students, faculty, placements and overall brand equity.

Corporate transformation often occur in situations of crisis. Classic studies of crisis decision making have highlighted the tendency to focus on the short term, and to concentrate upon fewer options, when the ‘going gets tough.’ There is a danger that a sense of balance and perspective might be lost just when it is most needed.

Members of board can experience a tension between the requirement to become more deeply involved in order to demonstrate commitment, and the desirability of maintaining a distance in order to preserve a degree of independence and objectivity. A corporate change program can increase this schizophrenic pressure upon the individual director.

In situations of crisis there is a tendency to cut out information and individuals who do not fit, and to concentrate power in the hands of a smaller group of people. This prospect can pose problems for directors who have genuinely reservations which they feel duly bound to express.

A chairman should think twice before ‘wielding the knife’. It is important to probe the reasons for hesitency. Enthusiasm could be the product of sycophancy, and caution the result of thought. Team players are not those who just go along without thinking. Some colleagues are cautious. They are not obstructive. They are realistic.

I am currently preparing for a trip to San Jose de la Pazza in Baja for Dia de los Muertos. The people of this village belong to the Native Population, the Kumeyaay/Kumiai, whose tribe was separated when the border was established between Mexico and the US. Nearly half of the population extends into Mexico going as far south as Ensenada.

It is possible to research the Kumeyaay people extensively at a website called www.Kumeyaay.info. There you will find a wealth of photos, archived documents, historical clippings, and information about the tribe today in both the United States and Mexico.

The Kumeyaay are well-known for their tightly coiled basketweaving techniques the indigenous California peoples have used for thousands of years for storage, winnowing, cooking, and serving food.

It’s a good chance that Kinji & I may have been the last couple to enjoy the luxurious honeymoon suite venue. When I went back a few days later to get some still shots, the sim was being remodeled and I was unable to find a landmark for Everlasting Love. I did find a landmark by the same creator under the name of Everlasting Love Weddings. If there Wedding venue is of the same caliber as the honeymoon suites, I’m sure they will not disappoint.

Dispel The Mist – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat

‘Her next dream was a nightmare. Tempe knew she was on the reservation, but it was different looking as familiar places often are in dreams. The buildings all seemed dilapidated and badly in need of repair through she couldn’t see them clearly because of a swirling grayish-yellow mist surrounded everything. Jagged black mountain peaks poked through the clouds. Though she was alone a feeling of menace was so prevalent, she could almost smell it.

Without warning, a large man who resembled Cruz Murphy stepped out of the fog. He held up a hand, palm out. “Stop. Danger ahead.”‘

Lilia Quintera is a Tulare County Supervisor who won her election due to her being a descendant of both Mexican and Native American. She was a big help in bringing a casino to the reservation, allowing jobs and a better life for those living on the reservation as well as the city. But when she is put into a position to support the proposal of a new hotel with a golf course and all the amenities that go with it, she refuses to conform to their plans without more research on it’s effect on the community. So when Lilia Quintera dies from what seems to be natural causes, Tempe Crabtree is brought in to help gather clues and evidence pending the autopsy.

Who would want Lilia dead? Her husband Wade, who is several years younger as well as a ladies man and may gain from her death through inheritance is a suspect. Her sister Connie, who’s daughter Suzy at the advice of Lilia, will be moving to a residential facility called Shadow Hills, Shadow Hills will house young ladies who are mentally challenged. Plus, feelings of jealousy for all of the decisions as to the welfare of Suzy might make Connie want to see Lilia dead, making her a suspect. There is Duane Whitney who lives in the neighborhood where Shadow Hill will open. He feels it will bring down the value of his property, so with Lilia publicly supporting the facility may make him want her dead, making him another suspect. And then there are the Native Americans who feel that Lilia should support the building of the Hotel, feeling it will bring more opportunities for the reservation. Many of them can be considered suspects.

Follow Tempe as she sorts through the facts and gossip, as she encounters the hostility of those on her on her list of suspects, as she sorts through the clues hidden in her own dreams and as she tries to understand the role that Hairy Man plays into it all . Is he real or just a fable?

I’ve enjoyed this book so much, with it’s mystery as well as history, that I find myself wanting to learn even more about the myths and fables of the American Indians.

I just had a chance to read the excellent interview on the New York Times Lens blog between NYT Lens

I just had a chance to read the excellent interview on the New York Times Lens blog between NYT Lens editor Jim Estrin and photographer Aaron Huey, about Huey’s experiences photographing the Lakota people on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. The photos in the gallery alternate between hauntingly beautiful and hauntingly tragic. One image half-way through shows two riders on horseback bounding across the wild countryside, an eerie blue twilight silhouetting their shapes into figures not unlike ancient cave paintings. The next image is starkly different. A young girl raises her hands to an unseen light source in a dark, squalid-looking basement. With her cute pink dress, she looks out of place against the graffiti-covered wall behind her. The photos suggest a tug-of-war between the proud culture and traditions of the Lakota people and the legacy of poverty and oppression that threaten to break their community even further.

Visit the NYT Lens site to read this engaging interview and see more of Huey’s gripping images, like the one below.

Jaipur – The Heritage Pink City

Jaipur – The Heritage Pink City has been the capital of erstwhile Jaipur state since its inception in 1727 AD, it gets the name from its founder Maharaja Jai Singh II. He was not only a great ruler but also a renowned mathematician and astrologer, his various talents are clearly exhibited in the Jaipur city. Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya designed Jaipur as per the Hindu treatise, Shilp Shastra. The Jaipur city was laid with great precision, it could also be called as the first planned city of the country. The roads were divided into rectangular blocks and surrounded by a peripheral wall with huge gates guarding it. The market places were named after the commodity, which as supposed to be predominantly sold or manufactured there.

Jaipur – The Capital City of the state Rajasthan, very nearly exemplifies the character of the state and its people. Surrounded by rugged hills on three sides, each crowned by formidable fort and beautiful palaces, mansions and gardens dotted throughout its precincts.

In 1876 A.D. Jaipur dressed itself in pink to welcome Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria and earned the epitaph ‘PINK CITY’, it is also a home of excellent handicrafts especially known for the exquisite gold jewellery enamelled or inlaid with precious stones, blue pottery, carving on wood, stone & ivory, block print, tie & dye textiles, hand made paper, miniature painting ets.
