Image editing encompasses the processes of altering images, whether they be digital photographs, traditional analog photographs, or illustrations. Traditional analog image editing is known as photo retouching, using tools such as an airbrush to modify photographs, or editing illustrations with any traditional art medium. Graphic software programs, which can be broadly grouped into vector graphics editors, raster graphics editors, and 3d modelers, are the primary tools with which a user may manipulate, enhance, and transform images. Many image editing programs are also used to render or create computer art from scratch.

Basics of image editing

Raster images are stored in a computer in the form of a grid of picture elements, or pixels. These pixels contain the image’s color and brightness information. Image editors can change the pixels to enhance the image in many ways. The pixels can be changed as a group, or individually, by the sophisticated algorithms within the image editors. The domain of this article primarily refers to bitmap graphics editors, which are often used to alter photographs and other raster graphics. However, vector graphics software, such as Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, are used to create and modify vector images, which are stored as descriptions of lines, Bézier splines, and text instead of pixels. It is easier to rasterize a vector image than to vectorize a raster image; how to go about vectorizing a raster image is the focus of much research in the field of computer vision. Vector images can be modified more easily, because they contain descriptions of the shapes for easy rearrangement. They are also scalable, being rasterizable at any resolution.

Editing programs

Due to the popularity of digital cameras, image editing programs are readily available. Minimal programs, that perform such operations as rotating and cropping are often provided within the digital camera itself, while others are returned to the user on a compact disc (CD) when images are processed at a discount store. The more powerful programs contain functionality to perform a large variety of advanced image manipulations. Popular raster-based digital image editors include Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Corel Photo-Paint, Paint Shop Pro and Paint.NET. For more, see: List of raster graphics editors.

Besides programs that mainly concentrate on editing one image at a time, such as those listed above, there exist a lot of batch image processing tools like Batch Image Processor or Batch Photo that let one resize, convert, watermark, or otherwise edit images.

Digital data compression

Many image file formats use data compression to reduce file size and save storage space. Digital compression of images may take place in the camera, or can be done in the computer with the image editor. When images are stored in JPEG format, compression has already taken place. Both cameras and computer programs allow the user to set the level of compression.

Some compression algorithms, such as those used in PNG file format, are lossless, which means no information is lost when the file is saved. The JPEG file format uses a lossy compression algorithm- The greater the compression, the more information is lost, ultimately reducing image quality or detail. JPEG uses knowledge of the way the brain and eyes perceive color to make this loss of detail less noticeable.

I found out that i can’t resize my iTunes windows after i migrated from mac mini to macbook. The mac mini is hooked up with a 22 inch LCD, so, the screen size is bigger than the macbook. If you hit on the green buttons, you’ll get iTunes turn into mini player. What about my itunes windows size, as my macbook screen is 13 inch and i just can’t drag it to resize.

Here’s the solution.

Hold down the OPTION key and click on the green buttons, it will resize iTunes properly.

This is handy.

Memang, untuk partisi 64-bit, aplikasi pengaturan partisi dari pihak ketiga tidaklah sebanyak untuk partisi 32-bit.  Untungnya, untuk operasi sederhana semisal mengubah ukuran partisi, Windows Vista sudah menyediakan alat bantu. Jadi Anda tidak perlu repot mengunduh aplikasi pengatur partisi untuk sekedar mengubah ukuran partisi 64-bit Anda.

Baik, mari kita mulai. Langkah pertama, lakukan proses defrag pada harddisk Anda agar ruang harddisk lebih tertata dan lebih maksimal.  Untuk melakukan proses defrag, jalankan program Disk Defragmenter melalui Start » Accessories » System Tools » Disk Defragmenter.

Setelah proses defrag selesai, kini kita jalankan program Disk Management. Klik tombol Start dan ketikkan Disk Management pada lajur pencarian. Anda juga dapat mencapainya melalui Control Pane » Administrative Tools » Computer Management » Disk Management.

Klik pada pilihan Storage dan pilih drive yang ingin Anda ubah. Klik kanan pada partisi Anda kemudian pilih Shrink Partition. Disk Management akan menghitung seberapa besar ruang harddisk yang bisa diperkecil. Kemudian Anda bisa menentukan seberapa banyak ruang harddisk yang akan Anda perkecil. Untuk memperbesar, pilih opsi Extend Partition. Ingat untuk selalu menyediakan ruang ekstra pada drive C: untuk menjaga performa komputer tetap maksimal.

Apabila Anda ingin membuat partisi baru dari hasil Anda memperkecil partisi, tinggal klik kanan pada ruang kosong yang dihasilkan dan pilih Create Partition. Nah, semoga tips kecil dari maximumpc ini berguna bagi Anda yang ingin mengatur partisi pada sistem 64-bit.

Так как в последнее время стал много возится с фотографиями и вообше с графикой появилась нужда засылать картинки во все направления. Но так как мы живём в современном мире, то и пикчеры современные и весят модно по несколько мегатон, что не есть хорошо для быстрого засыла. Having a bit of inspiration after a productive day at the office, I decided to implement this small feature that’s been on my mind for weeks: restriction maximum picture dimensions and/or size during the preload process.  There are two big reasons: 1.) FTP push and 2.) because I have a lot of super-high-quality image sources.  The Grace Park site is the first to take advantage of this, getting a maximum width of 400 (about 25% the width of some of the sources!).

PicMax is a variable specified in the site text at the site level, e.g. at the very top.  I wanted it to follow this syntax:

picmax=WIDTHxHEIGHT,SIZE

I also wanted each one of those components to be optional.  You can specify all, one, some, or none and achieve the effect you’re looking for.  The aforementioned fansite simply specifies “400″ which means “400 maximum width”.  However, what if you just want height?  Easy: “x400″ (400 maximum height).  You see the ‘x’ and ‘,’ are delimiters that need to be present in order to specify what’s after them.  So to cap all pictures at ten thousand bytes, you’d say “,10000″.  Maximum width and size but no height: “400,10000″.  How do I achieve such magic?

Damn I love regular expressions!  Now, to retain your sanity you can specify a zero in the whatever spot you don’t want filled in and the code will operate the same.  When I first approached the parsing I wondered how I’d structure the pattern, but it turns out just making everything optional solved it.  Crazy!

When pictures are resized for scale, their maximum file size is capped at their previous file size.  This prevents the unintentional effect of shrinking one and having it grow on disk (the opposite desired effect).  Usually resizing dimensions is enough to squish the byte size, but it’s difficult to know what to set the JPG quality value to and re-saving any lossy format is an easy way towards bloat.

Ok, short explanation here for all contents creators that use resize scripts in their items…

1. MAKE THEM REMOVABLE!
2. Do NOT put resize scripts with child scripts in each prim in a no mod, no copy item EVER!

Have you ever been wondering why you starting having alot of failed teleports? extreme lagg? Never being invited lately to your sim owning friends parties? Take off your attachements sporting your hundreds and hundreds of resize scripts, and you’ll see those party invites dropping in again. Also it’s quite nice not needing to try to tp everywhere 5 times with 4 failed attempts and the 5th being logged off.

Those awesome 200×2 prims boots looks nice but those 400 mono compiled resize scripts can leave your customer in a world of trouble.

DO NOT MAKE resize scripted stuff that is no copy! Resize scripts can be useful but should always be removable from the items and the items should always be copy perms. Giving your customer the option to save a backup pair, and remove the scripts from the ones she/he is wearing.

The only viable alternative for no copy resize scripted items are a 1 script resizer. Never use a resizer script with child scripts in each prim for a high prim no modify, no copy item.

Terkadang, kita membutuhkan foto untuk keperluan upload di situs atau web blog kita. Beberapa situs atau blog, memiliki aturan tertentu untuk ukuran foto. Hal ini dilakukan dengan berbagai alasan, seperti keterbatasan space, atau menghindari gagalnya upload karena file yang terlalu besar. Sehingga ketika kita mengupload foto pada sebuah situs, memakan waktu yang cukup lama untuk proses tersebut. Nah, agar kita dapat menghemat waktu dan space, serta mengamankan hasil karya kita di dunia maya, maka kita bisa melakukan resize (mengubah ukuran) pada foto tersebut.

Pilih foto yang akan di resize. Dan buka dengan aplikasi Photoshop.

Kemudian pilih menu Image > Image Size…

Perhatikan jendela image, terdapat pixel dimensions : 16,1 M. Ini berarti ukuran file kita sangat besar jika akan di upload pada situs atau blog.

ubah kolom resolusi menjadi: 72 pixels/ inch, klik OK.

perhatikan pixel dimensions sudah berubah menjadi 950.9 k

Simpan perubahan ukuran foto dengan nama yang berbeda, gunakan perintah Save As. File foto anda telah selesai diubah ukurannya. Lanjutkan dengan file lainnya. Selamat mencoba… (LG)

First of all, make sure to include the graphicx package in the preamble of your LaTeX source file. The following command exemplifies how to crop, resize and rotate figures in LaTeX.

Needless to say, the above goes in between begin{document} and end{document} statements.

Let’s explain the various parts in the argument of \includegraphics command:

• Cropping: “trim=1cm 2cm 3cm 4cm” trims (crops) from left, bottom, right and top by 1, 2, 3 and 4cm respectively. It must be accompanied by “clip=true”.
• Resizing: “totalheight=0.5\textheight” will force the figure to occupy 50% of the page length-wise keeping the aspect ratio constant.
• Rotating: “angle=90” rotates the figure by 90 degrees.

I am currently adding features to Dropresize.  I have a day job so I can’t work on Dropresize full-time but that won’t stop me from improving it.  Please expect to have the following features in the next version:

Bicara jujur, bagus mana, gambar “GWK” (Garuda Wisnu Kencana) yang ini atau sebelumnya? (Yang ini.. ii.)

Aturan “1/3″ alias “sepertiga” disinggung sekilas di posting lalu. Aturan “1/3″ membantu cropping; “1/3″ bukan aturan, lebih tepat disebut alat bantu pengatur keseimbangan konten foto atau gambar.

Bagi yang bukan pakar foto seperti saya, yang kalau ambil foto asal-asalan, setting semua otomatis, jepret sesukanya, yang penting wajah yang jual tampang harus jelas. Tidak begitu, ada tekniknya! Bahwa harus jelas, ya, tetapi keadaan di sekitarnya juga penting. Buka dulu ah, pustaka pintar “Aturan 1/3“…

Kita berimajinasi membagi ruang gambar di layar kamera dengan membagi 3 (karena itu disebut 1/3). Diperoleh 3 x 3 kotak, disebut grid, menjadi 9 kotak seperti ini,

Obyek itu sebaiknya ditaruh di salahsatu 4 titik-fokus atau 4 garis-fokus, 2 garis mendatar (H, horisontal) dan 2 garis tegak (V, vertikal). Ooh ..gitu, selama ini biasanya (selalu) menempatkan obyek tepat di tengah!

Wajah obyek juga sering didekatkan (close-up). Ini dihindari; kalau pun harus dekat, mata ditempatkan di garis- fokus H atas. Garis juga dipakai sebagai batas horison pemandangan. Ooh ..gitu. Banyak lagi tipsnya, intinya tetap 4 titik-fokus dan 4 garis-fokus tadi.

Langsung bereksperimen dengan foto “GWK” (Garuda Wisnu Kencana) yang kemarin itu. Sekarang dipasangi grid 3×3. Ah, benar juga, komposisi gambar kemarin tidak mengikuti aturan. Kurang bagus. Diperbaiki lagi dengan urutan sepert ini,

Tidak seberapa sukar, ya.

Semua dikerjakan dengan program Paint kecuali grid; grid dibuat dengan bantuan tabel Power Point, setelah itu di-kopas (copy-paste) ke gambar di Paint. Hasil akhirnya seperti gambar di atas. Cukup spektakuler? Menurut saya ’sih ..iya. Enjoy dan puas (untuk saat ini).

Jangan lupa, konten gambar atau foto itu bisa “ngomong” …lebih dari seribu kata. Pelajari dan kuasai dengan baik kamera digital yang kita miliki. Banyak fitur “aneh” yang bisa membuat kita terpesona! Jangan pernah bosan mencoba, sampai berhasil, sampai (hampir) tidak perlu crop, resize, dan compress.

Sukses membuat gambar bicara dengan aturan “1/3″!

Kompresi

Pada artikel sebelum ini sudah didemonstrasikan bagaimana kompres mengubah besar berkas. Kualitas turut berubah, dimensi tidak. Berdasarkan pengamatan, berkas dengan kualitas yang masih baik secara visual diperoleh pada tingkat kompresi sekitar 50% untuk konten yang penuh detil; untuk yang tidak terlalu detil berkas masih dapat ditekan lagi hingga 25%! Lumayan banyak.

Di bawah adalah contoh konten gambar yang penuh detil, gambar-1 (kiri), dan yang tidak, gambar-2 (kanan).

Resize

Dimensi gambar-1 2594×1860 piksel. Dengan monitor 96 ppi dimensi gambar-1 adalah 27”x19” dan dimensi gambar-2 1500×2000 piksel (15” x 21”). Padahal ruang layar monitor kita terbatas 1024×768 piksel (11” x 8”). Gambar tidak muat di layar sehingga ditampilkan hanya sepotong!

Resize-1
Untuk blog, gambar-1 dan 2 perlu kita resize. Dimensi gambar-1 baru adalah lebar = 314 piksel dan tinggi = 226 piksel (mengikuti). Bilangan 314 piksel adalah perkiraan yang bagus untuk blog. Faktor pengecilan 314/2594 = 0,121 atau 12%. Jalankan Paint dan klik menu [Stretch/Skew], ketikkan 12 (%). Dimensi gambar-1 sekarang 312 x 224 piksel. Tidak mungkin sama, tidak apa-apa. Hasil resize lihat di atas.

Resize-2
Kita juga ingin melihat dimensi layar monitor kita di blog. Mudah, resize monitor juga 12%, atau 0,12 x 1024piksel = 123 piksel. Tinggi monitor (perbandingan 4:3) = 92 piksel. Kita pakai Paint untuk membuat monitor 123 x 92 piksel. Selesai, dan gambar-1 di atas layar monitor kita (di dalam bingkai putih) jadi seperti di bawah. Cobalah cek.

Resize-3
Resize gambar-2 juga dengan 12%. Masuk ke [Stretch/Skew] Paint dan perkecil dengan 12%. Diperoleh 180×241 piksel. Coba diperiksa tampilan gambar-2, di atas.

Idealnya, Jangan Diubah…

Setiap pengecilan entah kompres atau resize, kualitas sudah dapat dipastikan akan turun. Idealnya sebuah gambar jangan diubah sehingga kualitas foto masih “asli” seperti yang tertangkap lensa dan sensor citra kamera atau hasil scan. Kamera HP dan kamera digital “jadul” generasi pertama ukuran 0,3 megapiksel (640 x 480 piksel), jangan tergesa-gesa dibuang. Simpan dan pakai untuk ilustrasi blog kita nanti.

Karena sudah terlanjur punya megapiksel besar, yang bisa kita lakukan  menggunting bagian yang diperlukan atau crop. Cerita 0,3 megapiksel dan crop kita bahas di posting berikutnya.

Với những tập tin hình ảnh thông thường, đa số các phần mềm xem/chỉnh sửa ảnh đều cho phép bạn thay đổi kích thước một cách dễ dàng nhưng với dạng hình động (*.Gif) thì rất ít phần mềm hỗ trợ. Để thay đổi kích thước của file Gif, bạn cần phải có một phần mềm chuyên dụng như GIF Resizer, đây là phần mềm miễn phí, dung lượng chỉ có 627Kb.
Bạn thấy cái avatar-của-tui ở bên trên không (hình thằng phù thủy nhỏ cưỡi cây chỗi có treo cái …đèn dầu đó), nó là dạng hình động (GIF), cũng may là nó bỏ vừa cái ô, nếu không thì sẽ khá mệt khi phải tìm một phần mềm để “resize” nó lại bởi tôi đã nhiều lần bỏ cuộc khi muốn resize một hình GIF có kích thược 128×128 thành 96×96 để phục vụ cho mục đích…gì đó, tìm trong kho phần mềm..tại gia thì không có, tìm trên Internet thì lười, thôi bỏ luôn. Chính vì thế khi “lang thang” trên mạng, tôi đã không bỏ qua phần mềm này, tải về để dành phòng khi cần.

Сегодня прое_ал часа 4, чтобы выяснить, что при ресайзе stage’а в flash точка проекции (Vanishing point) остаётся на прежней позиции. Ан нет, в обработчике её надо подвигать.

Дело было в том, что  математически вращение считалось совершенно правильно после ресайза сцены, но вот визуально происходили чудеса.

Век живи, век учись.

In recent years, lay-off, restructure,  resize , downsize, riff have all become part of our common household terminology and yet the most dreadful terms. It seems that it’s almost impossible to finish a sentence without the use of any of these words!

Now, I have been laid off twice!  The first time when I heard that I was no more a part of the company that I had admired and worked so hard for, my world came to an end.  I had just delivered a baby, put my existing house for sale,  was only a week away from closing on a new house that we had bought and was this close from getting my green card sponsored by my employer.  Life couldnt have been more exciting for me!    And then all of a sudden,  I get this call while I am on my maternity leave. … it just seemed that everything came to a stand still, including my thoughts and my senses.   But who cares?  Who cares if your dreams got shattered into tiny million pieces, who cares  if you cant buy that house anymore or if you buy it and cant afford to pay that mortgage, who cares if you now have one more mouth to feed!! . Our cynical views about our company and our annual bonuses are more important that your useless dreams and daily struggle for life.

Anyways, after a week of sulking and crying, I got back on my feet, enjoying my baby and my free time.  Fortunately, I was able to back out on the new house due to contingency plan and withdrew my existing house from market.  I requested my manager to keep me on payroll for an extra month so that I could receive my green card and I did get it within a month. So things were beginning to look up! Meanwhile, my husband came across this business opportunity, so I helped him with that.  I enjoyed the freedom of being my own boss and dictating my own terms.  Our business started doing good, so finally we could afford to buy a new house and also keep our existing house as well.

As things go up, so do they go down!  After a few years, the housing bust took down our business,  so once again I was part of our great American corporate culture.  I worked for one of the most admired companies in America for 3 years, putting in 12-14 hours a week and working weekends.  My kids saw me working all the time,  my husband hated my job, but I couldn’t afford to leave it.   And one day, I was once again let go as my job got shipped to India.  This time no tears, no sulking, no worries.  I still have 2 kids, a house to pay mortgage for,  my career, and all the materialistic comforts that a good salary buys. But this time I asked myself, so what? Whats the big deal?  In fact, I and my family were all very ecstatic that I finally got rid of this job.  The layoff couldn’t have come at a better time.  It was summer time, which means I got to spend a fantastic time with my kids and my husband. I spent my summer doing all the things that I love to do, but could not make time to do while I was working.  I painted, I shopped, spent time gardening, vacationed with kids, caught up on my 3 years of sleep, and all the fun things I could only dream of,  but couldn’t find time for.  It also gave me time to focus on my long-term career.  So I have now started to study for my masters,  plus I started blogging, which I have always wanted to do, but couldn’t.  I do need to find job soon as I will be running out of my severance in a few weeks,  but the fact that I am so mentally relaxed helps me think straight.  I am also ready to give up those materialistic comforts.

So you see, there’s a silver lining to every dark cloud! And its not just me, ask anyone who has gone through a layoff,  and they would say that it was the best thing to happen to them.  Now I know there are people who don’t have the luxury of spending time the way I am doing, who don’t have such supportive husbands,  who cant afford to be out of work even for a week, forget so many months.  But this is also the time when you are at your best, you are the bravest, you are more likely to seek opportunities, you are more likely to take risks and you are more likely to succeed!!

So, get up, smell the roses, bathe in the warm sun and get ready to face the world as new you! Be optimistic, seek every opportunity you find and you will see the silver lining !!
