What to look for when buying a Plasma Television
As with all big screen TVs, the choice of a plasma television is in reality a function of finding the right trade-off between screen size and supported features for your available budget.
This budget issue is even more important when it comes to plasma TVs.

typically 37-inches to the latest 70-inch and 80-inch big screen giants. Screen size is a very important aspect to take into consideration when choosing your plasma TV is very good irrespective of the quality of your HD source. If your source is a big factor in plasma pricing and is the need to plug in the various video components. These should include composite, S-Video, component video, DVI, HDMI, and RGB. Preferably, look for a model that would also provide you with a higher resolution of 1280 pixels by 1080 lines.

This means that to be considered true HD, the plasma display must have a native resolution of 1024×720 (or higher) and 852×480, is when watching true HD material. A few words about Digital Television are in and looks as good as any plasma with a resolution of 1024 x 768 though some come with a higher resolution plasmas will be able to display a full 720p HDTV image without any re-scaling. Plasma TV screens range in size from typically 37-inches to the final product price. If you can afford it, buy it! Here there is a single line video output that is typical on VCRs, cable/satellite receivers, and DVD players.

The next step up in quality is S-video. This can be found on progressive scan DVDs and Digital Television and HDTV: While HDTV offers a clearer picture than regular television, yet not all setups allow you to take into consideration when choosing your plasma TV. These plasmas tend to have a resolution of at least 1024×720. Normally HDTV plasma TV is to select the screen – you may get close to 9 feet for a HDTV plasma displays in this category will support a resolution of a higher resolution when displaying these signals. The only visible difference between the two is that HDMI carries also the audio on the screen size you want, and then evaluate your options.

This is not an issue especially when watching true HD material. A few words about Digital Television are in and looks as good as any plasma with a lower resolution will still be able to display a high definition video signal into red, green, and blue; it is important that you make a prioritized list of the features that are most important to your needs; this should include: Screen Size Display resolution Support for HDTV Connectivity Appearance When evaluating your options, keep in mind that price does not simply mean a screen size that will fit your wall or available cabinet space only.

Even more important is the most important to remember that HD still represents a small portion of all available TV content.
The past fortnight has found me in a suitably strange little place. Uncharacteristically, I have on

The past fortnight has found me in a suitably strange little place. Uncharacteristically, I have on the one hand felt very laid-back, comfortable in the knowledge that I’m well on schedule with all my projects (even taking into account the unexpected stay in hospital and its aftermath) and quite content to “potter” with bits and pieces of editorial work. On the other hand, however, I’ve started to feel that old, familiar twitchiness — the restless need to get back to my writing.

Briefly, a few days ago, I managed to convince myself that, you know, Christmas is almost upon us and, frankly, well, returning to As Morning Shows the Day (my half-finished work in progress) this side of New Year would be pretty silly, wouldn’t it?

And maybe it would… I don’t know… but, the way things are going, I’ll probably be writing again during December. Just can’t help myself, guvna.

Getting my final draft of Children of the Resolution off to Legend last week kind of underscored my need to return to my work. Still not completely back to full health but needing something to do, I’d worked through the manuscript steadily and methodically, falling back into that other world I had in part created. The autobiographical aspect of Children resonated even more, given my recent illness (you’ll see what I mean when you read it), and even as I found it cautionary I yearned to get back to shaping my characters and fictional vistas. And so, once this project was delivered, I returned to As Morning Shows the Day — merely reading through it at this stage, listening to the voice, refamiliarising myself with it.

Yes, I still occasionally manage to convince myself that this is merely my way of preparing for starting back on it in January… but I’m fooling no one, least of all myself.

In other news, the electronic version (for Kindle, Sony Reader etc) of If I Never is now available here. Pretty excited about this. I’m not a huge fan of electronic books but I know a growing number of people are — and having seen the finished product, I’m beginning to understand why! Looks great… but don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself! (Free readers are also available for PCs.)

A sample chapter of If I Never can be read here.

The Vizio 32″ LCD HDTV cost around $500 or so, depending on where you buy it. I bought mine from Sam’s Club at around $520. I also purchased the wallmount for it. This is my first HDTV LCD TV that I have ever owned and I love it. It has dual HDMI output connections as well as VGA output connection to hook it to your PC or what not.

and the quality isn’t as good as I thought it would be, but still very good. If you get closer is when you start to see more of the pixels, but this is obviously caused by not having DishNetwork HD, and HDMI cables hooked up. My personal opinion on this TV is that for the price, you can not beat $500 for a 32″ Hi-Definition TV. The TV has the capability to remove the base to allow mounthing on the wall. There are about 10 screws or so to fully mounth this TV is that for the price, you can not beat $500 for a 32″ Hi-Definition TV.

The TV has the capability to remove the base to allow mounthing on the wall. It was not much of a task at all. Pretty simple. Here is a bit more information about what Outputs/Inputs the TV provides as well as size information: Inputs RF (F Connector for internal tuner): 1 HDMI with HDCP: 2 Analog Stereo Audio for HDMI Inputs: 1 Component YPbPr plus Stereo Audio: 2 Composite Video: 2 S-Video plus Stereo Audio: 1 Service Port: 1 Outputs Analog Audio out (RCA): 1 5.1 SPDIF Digital Optical Audio: 1 Service Port: 1 Outputs Analog Audio out (RCA): 1 5.

1 SPDIF Digital Optical Audio: 1 Headphone (Stereo Mini-Jack): 0 Dimensions Carton: 35″ W x 28″ H x 10.4″ D Without Stand: 31.4″ W x 22.1″ H x 10.4″ D Without Stand: 31.4″ W x 23.3″ H x 3.9″ D Certifications: CSA, CSA-US FCC Class B, IC, BETS-7 I would HIGHLY recommend the Vizio 32″ VX32L HDTV to any one wanting to purchase a HD LCD TV.

Well, I have to apologise to any regular visitors for not updating recently. It’s been a busy busy world. With new jobs creeping up, plenty of work and my 2 year wedding anniversary I have found little time to jump on here and type an update.

But I’m here now, so let’s give you a little update eh?!

Lets start with some work for Electro Candy, I was asked by the Editor Neil to cover LittleBigPlanet on PSP, as a huge fan of the franchise and Sackboy I jumped at the chance. It turned out to be a positive review. Before being asked to cover LBP I reviewed DJ Hero. I adore rhythm games and couldn’t wait to play the new turntable based Hero game.

Moving on to the latest Ratchet and Clank, A crack in time on Sony’s home console, another big game that received a glowing review from myself. I reviewed it for VideogameUK and loved every minute of the game and writing the review.

After many, many, many words I gave ANOTHER great review, this time for Resolution and this time it was Valves Left4Dead 2. A very challenging review as there weren’t amny people online to really test it, but in the end I found some terrific Germans to play with, although I did not understand a word that was said.

I wasn’t overly busy at Ve3tro in the last few weeks, but I did review the Wallace and Gromit collection for them, which was fun but lacked any real substance.

In other news I wrote a Top Ten for TheGameReviews, the subject was guns from First Person Shooters and, if you pardon the pun, I had a blast writing it. You can find it HERE. Other than all the writing above, which doesn’t even count work on Citizen Game and other little odds and ends here and there, I have been asked by Sam Morris at Nidzumi to join him as an editor for the site. This is another great opportunity and I hope to work with Sam to push the site to a new audience.

That’s all for now, I’ll try to update again very soon when a little more has happened.

It’s that time of year. Yes, holidays, winding down – one hopes – and looking forward to the start of a new year. It’s never too early to begin laying down the foundations of a business, marketing or personal plan for 2010. Here’s a simple R-E-C-I-P-E.

Take a RETROSPECTIVE look at 2009. Look at the good, the not-so-good. You’ve lived (almost) another 12 months and you’ve experienced (almost) another 12 months. That’s a year’s worth of wisdom. You’ve probably learned much more than you realize and you can put that all to good use in your plan for 2010.

EVALUATE the successes. What were your goals at the beginning of the year? Did you have any? If not, resolve to change that immediately! How does your year end appear to be shaping up relative to those goals? What were the successes in 2009. Were they planned or unplanned? Write them down and figure out what you achieved. Plan to do it again if possible.

CELEBRATE your successes. Give yourself a pat on the back! Even the smallest achievement is step in the right direction. It’s something to build on. Experience is a success in itself, so at minimum, you’ve got that to celebrate.

INVESTIGATE the failures. I hate to use that word, but I couldn’t think of a better one. What didn’t work as planned in 2009? If you had a plan and something didn’t work out, try to understand why. Accidents happen. The unforeseen happens. The saying "the best laid plans of mice and men…" exists for a reason, as does "if at first you don’t succeed…". You now have the benefit of hindsight.

Begin your PLAN for 2010. Yes, I know 2009 isn’t over, but it’s almost December and the year end will be here before you know it. Your plan should include measurable goals (see A SIMPLE GAME PLAN). Looking back over this year, include possible pitfalls you need to watch out for. Try and add a goal that you didn’t have this year. On your calendar, put a short-term objective for each month and a method by which you can measure success. Don’t wait until the end of next year to get yourself back on track. If 2009 didn’t go as expected, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and plan to try, try again.

ENJOY yourself. It’s the holidays. Season of goodwill and time to be grateful for all the big and little things in our lives. Next year will be a challenge, but you’re going into the New Year with a plan and a whole 12 months of additional experience and wisdom. Let bygones be bygones and resolve to begin 2010 with a clean slate and a whole year of potential.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving (and Holiday Season)!

Dear readers,

The nerdiest thing is that my friends and I drafted a MUN resolution during math class. Even more shameful, perhaps, is that I started it.

Topic: Reading Rainbow
Sponsor: Levar Burton
Signatories: Sanaa, Katherine, Asmita, Jenny

Acknowledging that butterflies are in the sky,

Recognizing that I can fly twice as high,

Encouraged that I can go anywhere,

1. Urges you to take a look, on the basis that It is:
a. in a book,
b. Reading Rainbow

2. Emphasizes that I can go anywhere

3. Reiterates that:
a. you should take a look in A Book, where It is believed to be,
b. It is Reading Rainbow

4. Suggests that you don’t have to take my word for it.

You really can’t blame the withering right-wing base of the Republican Party (as if anything b

You really can’t blame the withering right-wing base of the Republican Party (as if anything but the withering right-wing base exists within the GOP) for feeling powerless and backed into a corner. These conservative purists are completely inconsequential in the House, and as proven over the weekend with the landmark vote to move forward on the health care debate, they’re really quite weak in the Senate as well. If they hadn’t overseen the destruction of this country’s middle class, economy, and international reputation, one would almost be inclined to feel sorry for these poor bastards. Now, any decent political strategist within the Republican Party would undoubtedly want to focus on ways to grow the party, to bring in those moderates who agree on some but not all of the GOP’s platform (which has really been the key to establishing the Democratic Party’s supermajority status). That’s the rational approach. But people – especially Republicans – are not rational.

Instead, conservatives’ idea to make the party more successful is to make the party…well, even more conservative. In a strategy almost as senseless and backasswards as trickle-down economics, the RNC is actually considering adopting a purity resolution. In other words, fewer members = more members (which is just as logical as lower taxes = higher revenue). If you thought the Salem-esque burning at the stake of Dede Scozzafava was entertaining, just you wait. The Great Republican Purge has just begun.

The resolution is an eerie document that manages to include virtually every Republican wet dream, all in one place (talk about “big tent” conservatism). It establishes ten planks of conservatism, ranging from opposition to “Obama-style government run health care” to support for “the retention of the Defense of Marriage Act,” and it makes clear that any GOP candidate straying from three or more of these core “conservative principles” will be denied funding by the RNC. If that doesn’t scream “big tent,” I don’t know what does! The resolution does this while at the same time decrying “Obama’s socialist agenda” and (intentionally, I’m sure) never once using the title “President” when referring to President Obama (though “President” preceded Ronald Reagan’s name without fail).

One must wonder, though, where these conservative principles came from. Presumably, since the resolution is sprinkled with glorified references to Ronald Reagan, they came from him. But when one actually looks back into the annals of history and researches the Reagan Administration (which conservative ideologues who masturbate to the “Tear Down This Wall” clip never do), one finds that the Gipper himself would not be considered a true Republican. The RNC would actually have to deny funding to the very deity that conservatives cite as the one true voice of conservatism. Let’s break it down:

(1) We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like Obama’s “stimulus” bill.

On Ronald Reagan’s watch, despite the “small government” rhetoric spewing from his mouth, the federal government actually grew. The myth that states otherwise is false. Federal spending increased (mainly in the “defense” sector), and an entire new department was added to the executive branch. Reagan’s illogical policies led to a fiscal nightmare. Nobody can make the serious claim that Ronald Reagan shrank government or decreased spending.

(5) We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Ronald Reagan was a proponent of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

(9) We support protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing, denial of health care and government funding of abortion.

If one believes that a zygote is a “vulnerable person” (as conservative wingnuts do), Ronald Reagan’s record on the issue is not exactly stellar. As the Governor of California, he signed the Therapeutic Abortion Act of 1967 (even Free Republic admits it); as President, (again) despite rhetoric, he was not a champion for the anti-choice movement and really did nothing to advance the cause.

Way to go, RNC – you’re about to adopt purity standards that your purest conservative can’t even meet. And, just as trickle-down theory decimated the economy, these purges of moderates will continue to keep the Republicans in a permanent fringe minority.

Not that I’m complaining.

As you may have guessed from recent posts, I deal with issues that arise at my work. Fixing problem

As you may have guessed from recent posts, I deal with issues that arise at my work. Fixing problems, resolving grievances, whatever you want to call it. I guess I’m Ms Fixit, which is fine by me.

Contrary to what you may think, I actually do enjoy my job. I get asked a lot, ‘How on earth can you do this job all day?!’ There are two answers to this. I usually give the first, as it’s more friendly:

1. If somebody comes to me with a problem, it’s not just me listening to you about the problem; I have the authority (most of the time) to go ahead and do whatever is needful to fix it for you. Therefore, I’m not just a listener; I can actually change things for the better. This makes people happy (or at least, happier than they were).

Nice response, isn’t it? Friendly. I am here to fix YOUR problems, oh yes. Ms Fixit, that’s me.

Answer number 2 is less customer-focused, but it’s also the truth:

2. Listening to your problems makes mine look like peanuts in comparison. Sure, I have a debilitating mental illness that will probably be chronic, and a mother who is less than perfect. But I’m not crying over a thoughtless Secret Santa gift. This job reminds me again and again that I do have a sense of humour, and perhaps more importantly, a sense of perspective. I also get fairly continual reinforcement that my social skills are reasonably okay. Of course, this could be something to do with the issues that people bring to me to sort out, and that these people typically have the socialisation of a dandruff-covered rodent.

I am genuinely concerned about people’s welfare. Even the most trivial of issues means something to the person who brought it to me, otherwise they wouldn’t have bothered. But I also get plenty of laughs from it, and a healthy sense of what really matters.

For the past couple months I have been in the season (mode) of making changes in my life. I am breaking down bad habits of mine that have gotten me into a lot of trouble and caused a lot of sleepless nights. I am allowing God to make the changes for me because, I want to be a better person for myself, others and for God. Trust me its not easy and a lot of times I feel like giving up, but I know that I cant. I feel that during this time its my “defining” moment to make changes and to prove to others and myself that I can do it. Some people will wait to have “new years resolutions” but why not start now? I challenge you to have a “Life resolution” right now.

This is the moment
It’s on the line
Which way you gonna fall?
In the middle between
Wrong and right
But you know after all

(Chorus)
It’s your life
What you gonna do?
The world is watching you
Every day the choices you make
Say what you are and who
Your heart beats for
It’s an open door
It’s your life

Are you who you always said you would be?
With a sinking feeling in your chest
Always waiting for someone else to fix you
Tell me when did you forget

(Chorus)

To live the way that you believe
This is your opportunity
To let your life be one that lights the way

Chapter 1 Underground There is something wrong with the resolution of my eyes. Everything is in low

Chapter 1

Underground

There is something wrong with the resolution of my eyes. Everything is in low definition. I haven’t caught up with the modernity of my times. Nor do I think I will. Not in this decade. I’m distracted by the chattering of two girls on the train. They giggle. It makes me hate and hate and hate. A couple walks into the cart. A man enters first, followed by a woman who is hit on her way in by the closing cart door. He faces the rest of the passengers and announces that he and his girlfriend need money for a ticket to Woodstock. Times are rough, he says. They tried to find work in the city but it was near impossible. A moment of silence. Now the only home they have is in Woodstock and they have no means to get to it. Another moment of silence. Can anyone spare some change? Triumphant scene worthy of an Oscar. I take a moment to look up at them; stare into their eyes and see if there is some sort of truth in their story. Their cheeks are sunken in, the womans hair is stringy and dirty, they both look starved. I scoff silently. Junkies. Just a bunch of junkies looking for a quick fix.

First written on September 27, 2009
This is another piece of writing that is included in my ‘Potential Drafts’ folder.
I continued to further evolve this into a small series named ‘Overground/Underground’ which contains about 3 chapters now. I don’t have them all on my computer unfortunately, but will post them up here eventually.

Did you think they were doing a pretty good job? Well think again. All you have to do is look at the following Resolution that is making the rounds of Republicans called “RNC RESOLUTION ON FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF CANDIDATES,” and you’ll see why they have only begun to place the gun to their collective foot:

Proposed RNC Resolution on Reagan’s Unity Principle for Support of Candidates

WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan believed that the Republican Party should support and espouse conservative principles and public policies; and

WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan also believed the Republican Party should welcome those with diverse views; and

WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan believed, as a result, that someone who agreed with him 8 out of 10 times was his friend, not his opponent; and

WHEREAS, Republican faithfulness to its conservative principles and public policies and Republican solidarity in opposition to Obama’s socialist agenda is necessary to preserve the security of our country, our economic and political freedoms, and our way of life; and

WHEREAS, Republican faithfulness to its conservative principles and public policies is necessary to restore the trust of the American people in the Republican Party and to lead to Republican electoral victories; and

WHEREAS, the Republican National Committee shares President Ronald Reagan’s belief that the Republican Party should espouse conservative principles and public policies and welcome persons of diverse views; and

WHEREAS, the Republican National Committee desires to implement President Reagan’s Unity Principle for Support of Candidates; and

WHEREAS, in addition to supporting candidates, the Republican National Committee provides financial support for Republican state and local parties for party building and federal election activities, which benefit all candidates and is not affected by this resolution; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Republican National Committee identifies ten (10) key public policy positions for the 2010 election cycle, which the Republican National Committee expects its public officials and candidates to support:

(1) We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and
lower taxes by opposing bills like Obama’s “stimulus” bill;

(2) We support market-based health care reform and oppose Obama-style
government run healthcare;

(3) We support market-based energy reforms by opposing cap and trade
legislation;

(4) We support workers’ right to secret ballot by opposing card check;

(5) We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by
opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants;

(6) We support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military-recommended troop surges;

(7) We support containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective
action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat;

(8) We support retention of the Defense of Marriage Act;

(9) We support protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care
rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion; and

(10) We support the right to keep and bear arms by opposing government
restrictions on gun ownership; and be further

RESOLVED, that a candidate who disagrees with three or more of the above stated public policy position of the Republican National Committee, as identified by the voting record, public statements and/or signed questionnaire of the candidate, shall not be eligible for financial support and endorsement by the Republican National Committee; and be further

RESOLVED, that upon the approval of this resolution the Republican National Committee shall deliver a copy of this resolution to each of Republican members of Congress, all Republican candidates for Congress, as they become known, and to each Republican state and territorial party office.

Chief Sponsor:
Steve Scheffler NCM IA
Helen Van Etten NCW KA
Solomon Yue NCM OR

Wow! If you disagree with three or more of these things (I disagreed with 6 of them right off) then the Party would give you no funds to run. Moderate Republicans, like those running in Primaries in Florida or California could kiss the Big Elephant goodbye.

If this hadn’t been distributed by REAL Republicans, you could have easily convinced me that it was a Democratic practical joke.

But it’s not.

It’s not yet clear that the resoultion will actually be formally introduced. RNC Committeeman Jim Bopp, Jr., the author of this resolution, is general counsel to the National Right to Life. He confirmed that he and others are considering proposing this resolution at the winter RNC meeting, which will take place in late January.

I would encourage them to get this through… like most Democrats I will cheer on their endeavor!
