It’s no secret that we love Pizza by the Sea (David is the mayor of PBTS on foursquare). We go there almost once a week, and we usually order a plain ol’ cheese pizza. Not because we’re boring, but because it’s just so good. The cheese, the sauce and the crust — mmm… I want some now!

But PBTS had to change things up on us by adding some delicious-looking new items to the menu last week. The new options range from appetizers like caprese bread, to YUM bowls (essentially pizza in a bowl), to dessert pizza. All of it makes my mouth water.

So yesterday we branched out and tried their new caprese bread. It’s a good thing PBTS’s tagline is YUM! because it was delicious. The creamy mozzarella, fresh basil and juicy tomatoes drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette was good on its own.

Combine that with the chewy, herby bread and it was amazing. The only downside is that the bread was cut into narrow strips, which made it hard to scoop up the delicious tomato/mozzarella/basil mixture, but the owner did tell us they are planning to change the way they cut the bread to make it easier to eat.

When we ordered, I asked the cashier what the most popular new menu item is, and he told me it’s the buffalo bread. We’ll be back to try that out soon! I also have my eye on their dessert pizza.

Oh. my. goodness.

Since we’ve been in money saving mode for a while (for the wedding, for the house, for Charlie…), I’ve been itching to go somewhere nice. So yesterday, David researched seafood restaurants in our area, and discovered Cafe Tango, a small restaurant on 30A. It is one of the top rated — it has nearly five star reviews on all of the major review sites — and the menu looked delicious, so we decided to give it a try.

It is a converted house and has all of 10 tables, so it’s tricky to get a seat on the same day. But, luck for us, there was a cancellation and we were able to secure a reservation. The reviews also said that it is hard to find — and it was. But we finally spotted it and got there just in time.

We were greeted promptly and seated, and immediately served with water. A few minutes later, our waitress came to take our drink orders, and dropped off some fresh bread with an olive oil and asiago cheese dipping sauce. Talk about delicious — we are big bread lovers anyway, but the asiago cheese and the freshly baked bread was amazing.

fresh and cheesy

We opted against an appetizer, and it’s a good thing we did! Our entrees came with salds — mine with parmesan ranch dressing and David’s with toasted pecan blue cheese dressing. They don’t look like much, but the sunflower seeds added something extra that I really enjoyed. Oh, and the salad dressing was good, too.

salad

I ordered the lobster ravioli, which was served in a pink lobster cream sauce with Gulf shrimp and diver scallops. The sauce wasn’t too thick or too watery, and the ravioli and seafood were cooked perfectly. So good. I ate every bite, and then scooped up some of the remaining sauce with the fresh bread!

can I have some more?

David opted for a dish called The Tango Fish: pan sauteed grouper topped with lump crabmeat, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and scallions. It also came with homemade mashed potatoes and sweet snap peas. I of course had to try some of the snap peas, they were sweet but not too sweet, and the the mashed potatoes were delicious. David tells me the grouper was fantastic, too.

grouper

They had a dessert menu, but we were too stuffed to even consider it. Overall, this is one of the best meals we’ve had. The service also was great. Even though the seating was limited, we didn’t feel rushed at all and our glasses were never empty. Overall, a fantastic dinner. We’re already talking about making it our go-place for celebrating!
