I said in an earlier post that Miley caught a large fox squirrel a few weeks ago. She had it in her mouth, and it was squealing very loudly. She trots up to me with all the pride in the world. “I finally got one!”  she seemed to say.

But that squirrel figured out how to get out of her mouth, and once he did, he put up a heck of a fight getting away. Golden retrievers very often don’t know how to kill, so this squirrel was able to take to the trees.

A fox squirrel, for those you who don’t know, is a huge tree squirrel that can weigh as much as 2 or 3 pounds.

When my grandpa was illegally ferreting, he send his ferret into a hollow tree where a fox squirrel had taken refuge. That squirrel sent the ferret packing!

English Cream Golden Retriever Puppy

Tessa surprised us by going into heat early, which means we are going to have a litter of English Cream Golden Retriever puppies towards the end of January 2010.  We can hardly wait!!!

Both Tessa and Moses have remarkably creamy white coats.  There is theoretically no such thing as a truly “white” golden retriever, but Moses gets about as close as an English Cream Golden Retriever can.  He has no hint of gold.  The same is true of Tessa, so we expect this litter to be spectacular!  They will have blocky heads, thick bones and based on mom and dad, a tremendous temperament.  Both Moses and Tessa are shockingly mellow and even as puppies, they were content to lay around the house without getting into mischief.  (However, there is no better golden retriever for a game of fetch than Tessa – she is tireless!).

Every year, we have been blessed enough to go to Hawaii with my parents. It is a wonderful opportunity for our children to spend time with their grandparents, for me to spend time with my parents, and for all of us to enjoy one last bit of sun before winter settles in. Though Summer in California’s Central Valley is long, Fall is short and quickly gives way to the gray cold of Winter.

This year has been no different, and we were greeted upon our return with Fresno’s famous fog and a brisk 40 degree night (we didn’t get home until midnight!). However, all of this was overshadowed by one unexpected surprise: Tessa is in heat!!!! Early!

Based on her last cycle, we didn’t expect Tessa to go into heat until mid-December. Wrong! And since she started early, Darby is bound to start her cycle any day now. This all means one thing: Puppies! Lots of fluffy, white, creamy, delicious English Cream Golden Retriever puppies!!!!

We expect the puppies to arrive towards the end of December or beginning of January, but we will have more details on that shortly. For now, we are just excited to announce our impending litters and would be delighted to help you choose the right puppy for your family! Though I don’t believe in “springing” a puppy on anyone for a Christmas gift, I must admit that if you’ve already been given the green light by your spouse to get a Golden Retriever puppy, I can’t think of a better Christmas present than one of these creamy white puppies!

For those of you not familiar with Fresno, we are halfway between southern California and northern California. It’s about a 3 1/2 hour drive from either San Francisco or Los Angeles. Once our English Cream Golden Retriever puppies are born, we like to wait about 5 or 6 weeks before beginning the selection process. If all goes as planned, and if you live in northern California or southern California, you could come see the puppies right around Christmas. We’d love to have you, and promise you the best cup of coffee in the Central Valley! (And of course, the CUTEST fluffy white mellow Golden Retriever puppies!).

Gestern habe ich das Buch “Traumhund Retriever” geschenkt bekommen *freu*. Darin geht es um die sechs Retrieverrassen und es beinhaltet ganz viele tolle Bilder. Bisher hab ich mal quergelesen, daher kann ich noch nicht viel dazu sagen, aber ich werde demnächst noch eine Rezension verfassen .

So… I had about two weeks break from painting. Not that I would leave for vacation (oh, I wished!) but some unexpected circumstances held me back from painting. I’m back now, trying to ketch up with all the delayed work, two unfinished commission paintings and another commissioned painting what was supposed to be done already. Actually all of them were supposed to be done! I’m so happy I’m getting back to my work process! One commissioned portrait was finished today

I will start to work on the third commissioned painting tomorrow. It will be oil painting of dog, for my customer who bought another painting reminding her the dog she got from CCI – Canine Companions for Independence. Thanks to my customer I learned about this non profit organization, helping people with disabilities. This theme is close to me because my uncle is blind. He does not use a dog to get around, he lives in a house with a caretakers. After reading about CCI I decided to donate them percentage from sale of some of my paintings on ebay.  Click here to see my ebay listings.

Nie dajcie się zwieść tym maślanym ślepiom! Poznajcie M. Bezczelną ponad miarę, nieusłuchaną i niewychowaną. Bekającą potężnie po jedzeniu i puszczającą głośne bąki w jadalni, po czym ostentacyjnie wychodzącą i zostawiającą osłupiałych i – co zrozumiałe – wyraźnie zniesmaczonych domowników (oraz  – o, zgrozo! – nierzadko gości) wpatrujących się głupio w kotlety z widelcami zawieszonymi nad talerzami. Gdy do drzwi dobija się ktoś znajomy, wydziera się wniebogłosy, stawiając na nogi cały pion i narażając swoich współlokatorów na nienawistne spojrzenia sąsiadów mijanych nazajutrz na schodach. A kiedy spust dzwonka naciska listonosz lub ktoś równie obcy i przerażający, milknie jak zaklęta i chowa się  pod stołem, planując zapewne, że jeśli nieznajomemu uda się wtargnąć do mieszkania i wymordować całą rodzinę, ona uda martwą, a gdy on nie da się nabrać, spróbuje zalizać go na śmierć. Na dodatek gubi sierść, w którą obłazi cała garderoba, tapicerka oraz wszelkie pokarmy serwowane w naszym domu, zimą wnosi na pokoje błoto, gdy jest mokra – śmierdzi, a gdy nie jest, to na pierwszym lepszym spacerze znajduje sposobność, żeby się w czymś wytarzać, i w rezultacie też śmierdzi. Jakby tego było mało, dwa razy w roku ściąga na siebie uwagę wszystkich samców w okolicy, którzy przybywają gromadnie pod nasz blok i z utęsknieniem wpatrują się w klatkę schodową.

Ale potrafi mnie rozbawić jak mało kto. Czasem tak śmiesznie przygryza sobie wargi, które same w sobie są bardzo zabawne z powodu swojej nazwy – fafle. Chrapie jak nieboskie stworzenie, zmuszając mnie do zwiększenia głośności w telewizorze co najmniej o trzy tony. Uwielbia, gdy się ją czesze – łasi się wtedy i kłamie w żywe oczy, udając, że jest najmilszą istotą na ziemi. Daje łapę. Każdemu – rodzinie, znajomym, pani w poczekalni u weterynarza, staruszce pod sklepem spożywczym i wujkowi, który jej nie znosi, i najchętniej w ogóle by jej nie dotykał. Nieważne, czy o to proszą czy nie. To jedna z niewielu sztuczek, jakich się nauczyła i chwali się nią światu niemal na każdym kroku. Nic dziwnego, skoro za każdym razem wzbudza niepohamowany wybuch radości u osób łapą obdarowanych. No, może z wyjątkiem wujka, który łapę wprawdzie przyjmuje, ale potem natychmiast dyskretnie wyciera dłoń w nogawkę spodni.

Jest ze mną od ośmiu lat. Wiem, że gdy jest mi bardzo źle, pozwoli mi się wypłakać w to wyłażące futro. I nie będzie narzekać, i nikomu nie wygada moich sekretów. Banalne, że zaczęłam moją listę małych szczęść od psa? Liczę, że zostanie mi wybaczone. Przynajmniej przez tych, którzy też mają takiego przyjaciela.

I dag møtte vi to hunder med radiosendere. To Retrievere. Den eldste av de to hannhundene stoppet opp på stien da den fikk øye på Baron. Den andre fartet rundt i krattskogen. Baron stampet litt med potene mot bakken for å signalisere lekelyst, uten hell. Det var en elleve år gammel Retriever han hadde støtt på, som benyttet sjansen til å ta en hvilepause. Den yngste av de to, var kun ett år gammel og veldig leken. Men den var derimot mest opptatt av å leke med alt annet enn Baron. Den gikk løs på kvister og røtter. Baron følte seg tydeligvis oversett, og begynte å knurre, lavt. Det var da jeg oppdaget radiosenderne som var festet til halsbåndet på Retrieverne. Med ett framsto de til forveksling lik to firbeinte spesialagenter. Eieren nikket smilende og rakte fram en GPS. Se her, sa hun, og zoomet inn og ut av terrenget. Kanskje mest til bruk i utkantstrøk, men likevel en praktisk innredning som kan gjøre hundelufting enda litt mer morsomt og spennende. Jeg tenkte med en gang på episoden hos min venn i de dype, svenske skoger, hvor jeg trodde jeg hadde mistet Baron. Da skulle jeg ha gitt mye for en GPS.
