This picture of Blake Lively from her July 2011 Glamour photo shoot is one of my favorites. I’m already a big fan of Blake but I really love what this picture embodies; the made-up retro cool-girl look, complete with smudged eyes, big hair and frosty nails. I browsed ASOS looking for retro-cool pieces that could create a similar look and really fell for the mint blouse, floral dress and quilted shorts you’ll see below. I’ve also put together a few items that would look great with each piece.

ASOS Cotton Lace Blouse With Double Collar: This mint lace blouse is so sweet. Any eyelet detailed blouse will look great with a solid colored mini, or a sleeveless patterned blouse like this Oasis Butterfly Placement Shirt.

ASOS: A-Line Mini Skirt in Coral: Is this not a great shape for a skirt? All the a-line mini-skirts I have seen, I want; especially ones in a thicker fabric like this ASOS Skater Skirt in Neoprene. It’s fun and flirty without being too sexy.

ASOS River Island Platform Heels: I love ankle breaker heels. They’re awkward to walk in at first but they make legs look so good. The outfit would also be cute with white heeled sandals but I couldn’t resist a touch of light snake-skin detail.

ASOS Body-Conscious Dress In Bird And Floral Print: This floral print is gorgeous with the little blue birds. So colorful and pretty. I would layer on delicate gold bracelets and rings like these Gorjana pieces: the Ava bracelet and Key & Fleur de Lis Stacking Rings.

ASOS Cardigan With Vintage Buttons in Pink: As much as I love the dress on its own I felt like it needed a cardigan with it. This piece picks up some of that vibrant pink in the floral pattern so you’re still standing out, even though you’re covered up.

ASOS HARPER Leather Platform Heeled Sandals with Snake Effect: The chunky feeling to these heels grounds the floral pattern in the dress. The orange snake-skin is a detail I overlooked but it’s a great way to give some edge to an otherwise feminine outfit.

ASOS Lipsy Sleeveless Blouse With Studded Collar: A white sleeveless blouse is a staple but this is a cool update with the studded collar. It’s a great light-weight piece to pair with the heavier fabric in the shorts; perfect with a simple gold bracelet.

ASOS Premium Quilted Short: These shorts were the first piece I fell for when I was thinking up this post. That pattern! It is like wearing 1950′s bathroom wallpaper… in a good way. Wearing these would take a bucket of confidence but they’re so chic!

J. Crew Classic Leather Ballet Flats in turquoise pool: A heeled sandal seemed too obvious so Dan suggested a mint flat. It gives it a country club vibe that’s a bit more casual. But either a colored flat or a neutral sandal would look great with these pieces and perfect for a summer party.
