Final Crisis – Revelations: y es que a Rucka le deben de gustar mucho estos personajes en concreto, porque cada vez que puede les mete mano… La serie empieza fuerte con El Espectro castigando a los asesinos de J’onn J’onnz… aunque se ve incapaz de dañar a Libra que se encuentra fuera de su ámbito de castigo. El siguiente objetivo de El Espectro es su antigua compañera Renee Montoya quien está intentando evitar que una secta utilice la Lanza del Destino… Cuando está a punto de ajusticiarla, aparece Radiant, el espíritu de la piedad de Dios – lo opuesto a El Espectro – que lo evita. La secta utiliza la Lanza del Destino para convertir a Vandal Savage en el primer asesino, Cain. El resto de la historia cuenta la lucha por la esperanza entre los siervos de Dios que han perdido sus poderes y los de Darkseid liderados por Cain/Vandal Savage…

Empezaré por el dibujo… Philip Tan no es santo de mi devoción pero su estilo es bastante adecuado para lo que se quiere contar aquí, una lucha entre el bien y el mal con la esperanza en juego… no puedo decir que me guste, pero es apropiado para lo que cuenta. Por su parte, Rucka va “arreglando” cosillas que les han hecho a sus personajes y que, supongo, no coincidían con su forma de verlas (por ejemplo lo del hijo de Crispus)… La verdad es que su tarea era la más complicada – y seguro que si (yo) hubiese leído la miniserie aquella titulada La biblía del crimen pillaría más cosas – porque mantiene una historia que funciona más o menos bien con esa mezcla de religión cristiana y dioses comiqueros… buff. No puedo decir que me haya gustado del todo.

Revelation, chapter eleven, verse number two; “BUT THE COURT WHICH IS WITHOUT THE TEMPLE LEAVE OUT, AND MEASURE IT NOT; FOR IT IS GIVEN UNTO THE GENTILES: AND THE HOLY CITY SHALL THEY TREAD UNDER FOOT FORTY AND TWO MONTHS.” 

We have seen the inner church which is referred to as the “temple of God” being measured, however, we now see the outer court being ordered of God to leave out.  This outer court represents the modern church that the world has fallen in love with.  At this moment, if you are a part of that “inner church,” you know exactly what I am talking about, however, if you are a part of the “outer court,” I am not making a bit of sense.  This distinction can only be made through the application of the “Word of God”.  Notice that I didn’t say through “reading” the word of God.  It can be understood through the “application” of the Word of God.  Notice also that in one illustration, I have used the small ‘w’ in word and in the other, I have capitalized the ‘W’ to form ’Word”.  I havn’t lost my mind.  If you’re only reading the word, you’re just leafing through another book.  Okay, don’t jump ahead of me; let’s deal with this issue of ”just another book.”

There is a big issue concerning taking ’sacraments’ in church.  We are told by those in church that we should not partake in the “Lords Supper” if we aren’t worthy.  Many churches substitute grape juice and crackers for this event.  Here’s the question; when do grape juice and crackers cease to be grape juice and crackers?  It is thought that if we partake of the “Lord’s Supper” when we are unworthy, we shall become “weak and sickly.”  No, no, no, come on!

Jesus said in the twenty fifth verse of the eleventh chapter of First Corinthians, “AFTER THE SAME MANNER ALSO HE TOOK THE CUP, WHEN HE HAD SUPPED, SAYING, THIS CUP IS THE NEW TESTAMENT IN MY BLOOD: THIS DO YE, AS OFT AS YE DRINK IT, IN REMBERANCE OF ME.”  Now understand that the “New Testament” was not written when Jesus said these words.  Jesus was talking, not about a book, but a new order of obtaining the graciousness of God through the shed blood of the Son of God.  It was a New Testament; a new “WILL,”  something that is passed on to a benefactor through the death of the giver.  That bible that you fold across your breast when you close your eyes to sleep is only a copy that was written down, but child, the “TESTAMENT“ is settled in Heaven!  To be sure, the Lord’s Supper is a transition of something that began when the Children of Israel departed Egypt.  It began as a rememberance of the “Passover Lamb” that prevented the death of the first born throughout Egypt when the angel of the Lord spared the dwelling that had the blood on the doorpost.  This was established by Jesus as something no longer needing to be observed after his death at Calvary and he instituted the Lord’s Supper in its place as something to be observed till he returns for us.  All of this is to keep us mindful of the fact that he is going to come again therefore we should partake of the Lord’s Supper, however, the power of sickness and health, life and death lies in the Word. 

We need to go to the book of Saint John, chapter six, verses thirty two and thirty three.  “THEN JESUS SAID UNTO THEM, VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO YOU, MOSES GAVE YOU NOT THAT BREAD FROM HEAVEN; BUT MY FATHER GIVETH YOU THE TRUE BREAD FROM HEAVEN.  FOR THE BREAD OF GOD IS HE WHICH COMETH DOWN FROM HEAVEN, AND GIVETH LIFE UNTO THE WORLD.”  Here we see Jesus declare that the bread of God is “he” that God sends down from Heaven and that “he” gives life unto the world.  Now, in verse number thirty of the eleventh chapter of First Corinthians, we read, “FOR THIS CAUSE MANY ARE WEAK AND SICKLY AMONG YOU, AND MANY SLEEP.”  When the Apostle used that word “sleep,” he actually means that they are dead!  Listen to me; the grave yards are full of people that need not be there if only they had heeded the word of God!  I have seen that life prolonging power at work right in the hospital room where the doctor said that death was imminent.  I know that the power is real and I know that the power is in the name of Jesus!  I have seen hearts repaired, vision restored, head trauma reversed, and childhood desease removed instantly, and that is to only name a few. 

Chapter six of Saint John, verse thirty five. “AND JESUS SAID UNTO THEM, I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE: HE THAT COMETH UNTO ME SHALL NEVER HUNGER; AND HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME SHALL NEVER THIRST.”  There can be no doubt that Jesus is the bread of life, however, we need to go back to chapter number one of Saint John, verses one through four.  “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD WAS GOD.  THE SAME WAS IN THE BEGINNING WITH GOD.  ALL THINGS WERE MADE BY HIM; AND WITHOUT HIM WAS NOT ANYTHING MADE THAT WAS MADE.  IN HIM WAS LIFE; AND THE LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF MEN.”  Here we have it; the Word of God is the Son of God.  That is why the Father and the Son are one. 

Jesus is not so much ink upon a page nor a mark upon a scroll.  He is not the King James Version nor the N.I.V.  Jesus is the voice out of the Burning Bush; he is the instruction at Mount Sinai.  He is the thunder at Calvary and the Rushing Mighty Wind at Pentecost.  Jesus is the small voice heard by Samuel and Jesus is that tug at your heart.  Jesus is spilled over into everything and contained in nothing.  Jesus is on the loose through the Cosmos and visited Hell.  He has saw the inside of the womb and busted the tomb and now he sits at the right hand side of the Father.  Jesus is not something written down but he is that which was lifted up that he might be all in all; Jesus is the voice of Almighty God; he is the Word!

When we look at these two verses of scripture that usher us into chapter eleven, we must understand that judgement has begun in the house of God for this to even be considered.  If the temple and altar represent the true church and the outer court represents the emerging church, it would indicate that the outer court is positioned almost the same as the world.  Okay, let’s return to the eleventh chapter of First Corinthians, verse number thirty one and thirty two.  “FOR IF WE SHOULD JUDGE OURSELVES, WE SHOULD NOT BE JUDGED.  BUT WHEN WE ARE JUDGED, WE ARE CHASTENED OF THE LORD, THAT WE SHOULD NOT BE CONDEMNED WITH THE WORLD.”  Do you see that?  Right here in this section of scripture where we get the Lords Supper from, we see that the church can be condemned along with the world for failure to follow the guidelines laid out in scripture for believers to follow.  That is the judgement that puts the church in two different categories, one which is the true church which shall be caught away when Jesus returns to catch away his bride.  The other is the outer church which will be left behind after the true church is caught up to meet the Lord in the air.  This is the second three and a half years, ( forty and two months) spoken of in the twelfth chapter of the book of Daniel. 

To avoid confusion in what has just been stated here, allow me to say, there aren’t two churches, however, just because ones name is on the church membership doesn’t make one a Christian.  To enter the true church that Jesus purchased with his own blood one must be ”born again.”  Church buildings are filled with members that have taken their old habits and their old baggage into the fold.  All too many pastors have made their messages ’seeker friendly’ and their church boards ‘buddy filled,’ however, to get that soul off the ground at the sound of the last trump, the candidate must be “Blood bought!  There is no baggage compartment on Heavens Flight and no place for carry-on luggage! 

Anything contrary to sound doctrine is a lie.  I don’t care how long one stands nor for how many one stands before with a big smile on his face, making way for those whom God has declared shall not enter therein, one is lying through those shiny white teeth.  A preacher that is afraid to preach the truth will be the very first soul to enter Hell.  Revelation, chapter twenty one, verse number eight.  “BUT THE FEARFUL, AND UNBELIEVING, AND THE ABOMINABLE, AND MURDERERS, AND WHOREMONGERS, AND SORCERERS, AND IDOLATERS, AND ALL LIARS, SHALL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE WHICH BURNETH WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE: WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH.”  When the sins of the world are brought into the church and the believer is never converted, (turned around) I urge them to find a position as close to the pulpit as they can get, for that is as close to Heaven as they shall ever be. 

I do not wish to be converted from my Christian doctrine where I will accept abortion as the rights of a woman in church.  I do not wish to be converted from my Christian doctrine to the point that I make the homosexual community comfortable in church.  My duty as a Christian is to present Christ to the sinner; not to present the sinner to the congregation.  I find no delight in seeing Harry Potter ride a broomstick, but I love the vision of Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of the universe splitting the Eastern skies, riding on the clouds of Glory.  I am not drawn to the beauty of three little lasses that are “charmed,” but I am constantly charmed by the beauty of my Trinity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.  I was not attracted to the church by the things that the world had to offer; but by the fact that it offered none of those things.  I now find the church less attractive because it offers a seat no higher in society than the seat being held by a lost generation.

We have an odd and rather morbid fascination with the apocalypse. It seems that every year, there’s at least one blockbuster movie playing up the “World is at an End” motif. Just off the top of my head: Terminator 2, Independence Day, Armageddon, Deep Impact, End of Days, The Day the Earth Stood Still, 28 Days Later, The Matrix, I am Legend and so on and so on and so on and so on.

This year is no different with the release of “2012” based on the Mayan prediction that the world will come to an end on December 21^st, 2012 (12-21-12).

If memory serves me correctly, there’s been a few times in my brief life when the world was supposed to end.  There was Y2K of course, when computers were supposed to rise up and eat us.  There were those crazy Zetas, who warned that the Earth would stop rotating on its axis in 2003.  Most recently, a British group by the name of “The Lord’s Witnesses” promised that a final World War would destroy Earth on March 21, 2008.

These nuts have real balls.  If I were a delusional Nostradamus wannabe I’d pick a date like 2505 when I know for sure I wouldn’t be around. These Zetas and Lord’s Witnesses…what do they do now?  Did they all go back to their alpaca farms? Were they like…”Woe to you Jupiter’s moon! My life has been one big lie!” How many do you figure broke into investment banking, realizing that they’ve got to shine it on for just a while longer than expected?

The Book of Revelations promises signs for the coming apocalypse (see The Four Horsemen).  I’m a Christian, but at the same time I’m a skeptic.  Not about God’s ability to send us real and discernable signs. No, I’m skeptical about all those loonies who see the image of Jesus in their McSkillet Burritos.

But I have to admit that with 12-21-12 quickly approaching, I was a bit rattled when I heard the following news (as sure a sign of the apocalypse as I’ve ever seen):

And so the countdown to the end of days has begun. So allow me to make MY predictions

On that fateful day, a couple things will happen. As soon as the curtain drops on her final show, Oprah will be beamed up to a spacecraft waiting to take her to New Earth located in the EL-RAM X System.

The rest of us will devolve into something like the following (just imagine a horde of dazed and purposeless women in place of the zombies).

It’s amazing what can happen when you send your intentions and needs out into the universe. I’d highly recommend it. On Friday I posted what was basically a cry for help to the higher power(s). It was answered. In a pretty big way. Had the great weekend, as you’ve heard about. Did a great job setting my intentions on having a positive and productive week in yoga and staying centered on it throughout practice. This morning after being lazy and sleeping in until almost 11 (in my defense, I was awake for several hours in the middle of the night), I got a call from the temp job I applied to on Friday. I did a 5 minute phone interview Friday afternoon, and assumed I didn’t get it because the email prompting the application stated they wanted to hire that day. They offered me the job the second they called today, starting Dec 15 for maybe 5-7 days of work before the end of the year. When I stated that I was also looking for a full-time job, the response was, “Your experience is such a great fit for us, so this might lead to some event planning or policy work.” POLICY WORK!!! WOOOOOOOOOT! Yes, count me in. For all of it. The manager who will be overseeing me just happens to run their HIV program, which just happens to be one of my pet issues. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. At the very least it will be good networking. I got an email this afternoon from the policy research internship I did a first round interview for a couple of weeks ago. They scheduled interviews #2 and 3 with me – both for tomorrow. That can also only be a good sign. It’s not paid, but at 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling, I could fit it in around a full-time job, should I ever come across such a gem.

In between these two lovely developments, I did manage to send out one resume. Turned out to be a more action-packed day than anticipated, so never quite got around to a second. Did stop by the grocery store and deduce that my “broken” iPod is really a product of my brand new earbuds being faulty, which is clearly a relieving revelation.

I almost let my quasi-immobile upper body keep me from going. If I’m that sore from yoga, I’m clearly not down dogging often enough. I went for a glorious, arm-pumping, hair-blowing, endorphin-releasing, adrenaline-rushing 4 miles. At sunset. Delightful in every way. Then some more endorphin-releasing, laugh-filled phone calls and Castle to round out my night. ‘Twas a good day. Thanks, universe. Much obliged.

It’s been quite a few days since my last blog entry. Today is the lucky day for my (few) readers, however, as I’m pleased to announce a new DAILY (or so I hope) entry series.

This is the first entry in the D.A.M.N. (Daily Awesome Music Nugget) series. The goal of “D.A.M.N.” is to share songs, performances, solos, and clips of music that I find to be epic, gnarly, boss, brutal, sick, or whatever synonym of “awesome” one can use.  I will continue to write my album reviews, as I love the album format and will defend and promote it until the end of the time. In this day and age, however, most people seem to respond to and embrace the “single” format more. This blog is for those people, the ones who don’t necessarily choose to listen to music by the album, be it by necessity or choice. Also, I will not necessarily be covering big hit songs, just ones that on the day I write, that I find to be especially awesome.

Without further ado, it’s time to move on with my entry. Today’s song is Audioslave’s “One and the Same.”

This song, simply put, kicks twelve kinds of ass. From the funk-wah guitar intro/chorus of Tom Morello to the punchy groove of the rhythm section, from Chris Cornell’s passionate vocal to the tightness of the composition; there’s so much to like about this song. It’s not hard to get into at all, it’s very funky and poppy, and has a very positive vibe. I can’t say enough about Morello’s guitar work in this tune, it’s everything a Morello fan would want and more. The arpeggiating solo and his effective riffing are fist-pumpingly and toe-tappingly divine.

I can’t get enough of the breakdown immediately following the solo. With only Brad Wilk’s pseudo-tribal drums and Chris Cornell’s monster vocals pulsing through my ears, I find myself clapping and bobbing my head along. This song is a rock grenade with the pin pulled and is guaranteed to improve your mood. Highly recommended.

Lord, I am guilty.

It’s not wrong to be addicted to approval… if it’s directed to God alone. If I seek to please the audience of One, I’m fulfilling what I was created for, to honour Him.

But…

I admit that my ego puffs up a little when people talk about the way my words have impacted them. I might not be the most influential speaker of all time, but man, some credit ought to go to me for stringing those words together, right?

I admit that my ego puffs up a little when people come up to me and tell me that ‘hey you’re really good, teach me please’ or ‘hey how did you do that, can tell me?’ I might not be the most skilled, but I think I’m doing a lot better than the average right?

I admit that my ego puffs up a little when people tell me about my strong traits or how I can achieve so much more than others in those areas. I mean, God gave people different capacities and talents, so what’s wrong about feeling good about myself sometimes?

I don’t think I can be any more mistaken than this. :/

If there’s one area in my life that I need to defy urgently right now… that will definitely be about being less of a people-pleaser and being more God-pleaser.

When I look back and just wonder about the times I was in school, in camp or even with friends, I don’t actually think I’m much of an achiever with much talent. I figured most of the time I pleased people more than I used what I was blessed with to please God.

I enjoyed being the teachers’ pet, I enjoyed the special attention I got from certain friends and I enjoyed the limelight when I was given special mentioned by my superiors. But, that too, came with a price.

It meant that when the praises, approval and acceptance halted, my mood swung to an extreme. I was bored, restless and unmotivated. It almost felt as if I lived for the praises of men rather than God. I had moments of happiness, but I never got a firm hold of that elusive joy and fulfilment that only God can offer.

I think too often, I’ve allowed myself to be overwhelmed by the lack of appreciation from people. I’ve nursed and rehearsed those hurts yet never really and fully allowed God to share in my pain. Then I came across this article:

“Friend, I don’t know how you’ve been taken for granted in ministry. But I do know one thing. God has not forgotten you. He’s seen every act of service. He’s watched every time you’ve faithfully prepared a message. He has walked into the room of the dying person with you. He’s listened as you’ve prayed for the direction of your church. He’s seen your acts of service. Others may take you for granted. But God doesn’t.

Never forget that.”

Alright Pro-pro world! Tori is feeling amped on this fine rainy day in Berkeley.  I know I’ve been a bit shakey recently, even with my dedication to le blog.

A lot has been changing. We all know Sanskrit has had a crazy hold on my life these past few months…but no longer.  As my dean told me this week “If you’re taking Sanskrit, that should be all your doing.  Its a full-time job”. Wish someone would have told me that before the semester! Anyway, this will be my last semester of Sanskrit and I am taking this semester pass/no pass.  Phew! So, next semester I reconnect with my first love, 日本語　(Japanese, yo!) . I am really looking forward to not being the slowest kid in the language class!

Also this week, I did a lot of soul searching with my advisor and we set a great class schedule for next semester and brainstormed about everything from thesis topics to language prep to PhD applications.  All very exciting but I gotta take it one step at a time.

So, here are my steps today:

1. Get through some of my mountains of research materials for my upcoming papers.

2. Do a little work in the photography arena.

Browsing online, looking at film soundtracks, I came to the conclusion that the new Twilight Saga film ‘New Moon’ has got quite the amazing soundtrack. Alexandra Patsavas is the music supervisor for both Twilight and the New Moon film. I’m just going to list the tracklisting for the latest one down here, but I definitely recommend looking in to it. I came home from work today and went through the ritual of starting up my computer and clicking on gmail. To my surprise, I was logged out of my email account. That could only mean one thing. Peter came by earlier today to pick up his bicycle. Naturally, he used my computer without my permission. Upon checking my browser history I come to the realisation that Peter knows. He might not know every little detail of what I did while he was away but he knows that the reason I was no longer in love with him is because I had been sleeping around. My initial reaction was understandably one of anger; that he invaded my privacy yet again. I was angry that I didn’t trusted him still even after everything we’ve been through all ready and failed to put a password lock on my computer. I was angry that he had the gall to use my computer without permission despite the fact that he hasn’t lived in this house for almost 6 weeks now.

But once that anger faded, I was surprised to feel relief wash over me. At the realisation that he knew, and my world hasn’t come crashing down on me – I was relieved. I’d rather he know… for my conscience. The only reason I wanted to keep it from him was to spare his feelings, but he didn’t seem to want to be kept in the dark. If I were in his place, I’d probably rather not know than snoop around his emails but we’re a very different breed he and I. And that’s why it has all ended the way that it has.

Don’t misunderstand, I’m not excusing anything I did because of things that he did. I know what I did was wrong, but I also don’t know that I would have handled things differently. I have to say that despite my relief at his recent discovery, I am still feeling a little anxiety about whether or not my world is going to come crashing down on me. He seems to be taking the discovery well, and that’s not the Peter I know. I’m surprised he hasn’t called me to chew my ear out or something similar.

Ugh. I’m sick today and really can’t handle this added discomfort. Wishing someone was here to take care of me.
