Reyes Barbecue is one of those food places that you want to try out the moment they open their doors to the public. Why? Because it’s owned by a Kapampangan; and we all know that Pampanga cuisine  generally fares better than other local and provincial cuisine (arguably). Of course, the Ilonggos and ther inasal are way up the gastronomic charts, but I’ve yet to meet a Kapampangan who cannot cook well. I am half-Kapampangan so It’s safe to say that I am half-good at cooking. Half-good and half-lazy.

A week ago, My father and I went to Reyes Barbecue SM Las Pinas branch. We’ve tried the Alabang branch a few months back but we were not happy with the bangus steak. The portion was small and the taste, bland. We always give 2nd chances to countless restaurants we go to, because if there is one thing that’s constant in food business, it’s the inconsistency of the food taste across branches.

Since this is our 2nd attempt, we orderd something different. My dad, being a huge fan of burger + rice combo, ordered the Salisbury Steak. I decided to stick to the house specialty of boneless chicken barbecue with peanut sauce. Rice and burger may be a Filipino thing, but I just find it a very unusual combination. It’s probably the last dish I would order.

The service was quick but only because we’re the only customers at that time. We didn’t have high expectations because we’ve been disappointed many times in the past, but when the Salisbury Steak was served, my dad was pleased with the portion. He is into sauces and soups so this was a real treat for him because the food was swimming  in a pool of gravy. While I am not impressed with the presentation, the real test is in the taste. My dad said it was good. So I asked him if he were to compare it to the Chef d’Angelo burger steak, which one would he choose. He answered “this one” without taking his eyes off the burger patties.

Me: Really, you like this better than Chef d’Angelo’s?

Dad: yes

Me: Eh, Jollibee Burger Steak?

Dad: This one.

Me: French Baker Salisbury?

(long pause)

Dad: Same

Me: Would you come back?

Dad: Yes.

It must be really good because my dad is one hard to please foodie. I’ll take his word for it.

Aventura ha llevado la bachata a lo más alto de las listas de popularidad, a las premiaciones musicales más importantes e incluso a la Casa Blanca. Pero ahora el grupo dominicano quiere conquistar el mercado mexicano y no conforme con ello, también le gustaría poner a bailar bachata a Ninel Conde, así como a Rihanna y a Beyoncé.

La banda integrada por Anthony (Romeo), Lenny, Mikey y Henry llegó por primera vez a México para presentar su más reciente producción titulada The Last, con la que logaron posicionarse por 16 semanas consecutivas en el primer lugar del indicador de ventas de la revista Billboard y habló con Univision.com sobre lo que significa este hecho sin precedentes en su trayectoria.

“Hemos tenido éxito. Gracias a Dios y a ese público maravilloso las expectativas han sido excelentes. Lo que soñamos lo logramos y todavía más de lo que esperábamos. Es increíble, el grupo Aventura con ningún disco había durado más de dos semanas y este disco llegó a estar en número uno por 16 semanas. Pasaba una semana y nosotros pensábamos que sería nuestra última semana y llegaba la cuarta semana y comenzamos a acostumbrarnos.

“El grupo ha tenido con esta producción una aceptación rotunda. El primer sencillo Por Un Segundo llegó al número uno, fue la primera vez de una canción de Aventura”, explicó el cantante Romeo Santos.

El cuarteto, que hace unos días logró un American Music Award, en la Categoría de Artistas Favoritos de América Latina, indicó que cada vez los sorprende más la aceptación que tiene su música en el mundo entero.

“Cada día hay más sorpresas, acabamos de ganar un American Music Award, que solamente es de norteamericanos”, dijo Lenny.

“Nominados además con artistas como Wisin & Yandel y Luis Fonsi, que también son ganadores. El saber que estábamos nominados con ellos fue una satisfacción increíble, nos sentimos muy orgullosos”, agregó Romeo.

Ya por estas fechas comenzamos a escuchar en la mayoría de los hogares esa famosa frase de boca de los más pequeños de la casa: ¡Me lo pido!, y la agonía de los padres comienza a apoderarse de ellos…

Catálogo de juguetes en mano, los niños comienzan a elegir los regalos que este año pedirán a los Reyes Magos, porque han sido buenos, han estudiado y sacado buenas notas, y porque… ellos lo valen… Todos lo valimos en su momento, y lo disfrutamos y ahora les toca a ellos.

¿Qué hacer cuando comienzan a elaborar una interminable lista de juguetes? ¿Por qué de cada página piden “casi” todo? ¿Qué papel tienen los padres en esta ardua tarea?

Es difícil persuadir a un niñ@ para que en el momento de concentración y de revisión exhaustiva del catálogo en cuestión, comencemos a darle la tabarra impidiendo que añadan más elementos a la lista. Nuestro trabajo como adultos es dejar que su imaginación vuele, participar activamente en este momento de ilusión y desenfreno… Ofrecer alternativas a sus decisiones es una buena idea. Tengamos en cuenta que el menor no repara en si es o no un juguete adecuado para su divertimento, simplemente lo ha visto y le ha llamado la atención, ha reparado en que algún amigo lo tiene y él lo quiere también, lo ha visto en un anuncio “súper real” de la tele y se imagina ya en su cuarto jugando a mil historias, etc. Ahí es cuando los padres, previa información del juguete en cuestión, podemos inmiscuirnos de forma sinuosa, jamás de manera contundente pues conseguiremos que se encapriche aún más con su objeto de deseo, para ofrecer una posibilidad a su capricho, utilizando las “armas” que en ese momento consideremos oportunas, para, como se dice coloquialmente, “llevarse el gato al agua”.

Pensemos, también, que el niñ@, como ya hemos dicho, va a pedir todos los juguetes que quepan en la carta, en ocasiones incluso utilizarán más de un folio y lo graparán, como era el caso de la que les escribe, pero llegado el momento, cuando el día seis de enero por la mañana comiencen a abrir paquetes, ni siquiera recordarán lo que escribieron en esas listas, simplemente serán felices porque los Reyes los han visitado y les han dejado mil regalos que en ningún otro sueño lograrían tener.

¡Hola a todos!
He de deciros que se acercha la noche más divertida y vieja del año . Y que hay muchos lugares para todos los gustos pero no todos ofrecen lo mismo ni a la misma calidad.

Por ejemplo;

Un@ va vestid@ con sus mejores galas y de los sitios que tienen ropero, en las macrofiestas los abrigos “se pierden” (o los roban).

Una/o desea la mejor bebida correspondiente al precio de la entrada y en las macrofiestas te dan garrafón.

Una chica va vestida como una señorita y desea que la traten como a una dama. Y un chico va vestido como un caballero y desea un trato adecuado a su elegancia.

Entonces, en un lugar donde el aforo es de 700 personas, no te van a tratar igual que en un lugar donde el aforo es de 90.

Por ello, yo recomiendo un local de menos de 100 personas.

Y sobre todo un local que te garantize que el alcohol es de calidad y que te asegure que el que tiene es de PRIMERAS MARCAS. Y esa garantía te la ofrecen en el ticket de compra. Eso no lo hacen todos y eso es lo deberían de hacer para dar al cliente confianza. Además que por el sabor se aprecia notablemente.

Y un local que no sean cuatro paredes y a beber. Sino un local que tenga un estilo propio algo distinto a lo de los fines de semana. Algo especial por NOCHEVIEJA, que es nochevieja chavales, que no es una noche cualquiera..

¡Entonces os propongo venir a disfrutar la nochevieja a donde yo voy a ir!

Point Reyes is an amazing preserved part of the California coastline that is just like a little bit of the Irish Coast.

But this is not Ireland. This is the Point Reyes Seashore, a couple walking along the road an awe-inspiring landscape that brings together the land and the sea in a concoction sure to stimulate the senses. Broad, sweeping, rolling hills of green work their way to the craggy cliffs that signal the beginning of the Pacific Ocean. Best of all, this area is relatively untouched by man. Altogether there are 125 miles of trails and most times you won’t be bothered by droves of other tourists.

A weekend away and a world apart might be a good way to summarize a getaway to the Pointe Reyes Seashore, a startling contrast with the metropolitan area that is so close to the south. In fact, once you cross the Golden Gate Bridge, or perhaps the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge coming from the East Bay area, there is a definite line of demarcation between city and country. Oh, there are cities up here all right — but it’s obvious this part of the Bay area was built up by people who wanted to leave the bustle of the city behind them when they retreated from a demanding day at the office.

One of the scenic ways to reach the Point Reyes Seashore is to cross on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge and turn off on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, a slow, meandering two-lane road that weaves in between the forested hills and mountains of Marin County and other locales north of San Francisco. Once we exited onto Sir Francis Drake, we passed a bay full of ferryboats waiting to return to the city to bring commuters home for the evening. Then the road took us deeper into forests that we never realized were there.

Check out San Anselmo for antiques, with more antique stores for a small town than just about any other place in California. More than 130 antique dealers are tucked into just a few blocks of this inviting small town where tree-lined streets and historic architecture suggest a quiet, simple life enhanced by the natural beauty of the forested hills and many nearby vistas.

A little further up the road is the Samuel P. Taylor State Park with its 2,700 acres of redwood forests and grassland. It’s a quiet place to stop a boat lying on its side on landor a picnic. Enjoy the sounds of the babbling brook, the wind gently rustling the trees and the scenic splendor that made this the first park in California that was set aside specifically for city people to go visit.

Just about an hour’s drive from the San Francisco Bay, we reached our base of operations while in the Point Reyes area — the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge. While not actually on the seashore — there are no lodgings on this part of the coast — this comfortable country inn is located very close to the action. The Seashore area’s Bear Valley Visitor Center is just a two-minute drive from the lodge, and the town of Point Reyes is only a little bit farther.

Even without the seashore nearby, the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge is an enchanting retreat of its own with its unique architecture — kind of a cross between a Cape Cod mansion and a modern hunting lodge — and its peaceful grounds. The lodge is located in the tiny town of Olema, where Sir Francis Drake meets Coastal Highway 1. There are a couple of restaurants in town and not much else, but our suite at the lodge offered a warm fire, plenty of reading materials and a gorgeous view from our balcony overlooking the lawns, walkways and streams that are all part of the inn’s two-acre backyard.

After settling in, we took one look at the sunny weather and decided it was time to quickly make our way out to the far reaches of the Point Reyes Seashore — about a 45-minute drive from the inn — where we wanted to visit the famed Point Reyes Lighthouse. Weather in this part of California is a little tricky. Fog can come at any time of the year, although the tendency in winter is for it to be foggy in the interior, yet clear out on the coastline. In summer, that often is reversed.

During our winter visit, we enjoyed clear views all the way out to the Seashore as we drove along the “Irish” countryside, making our way ever closer to the spectacular cliffs leading to the sea. Along the two-lane country road, Point Reyes Lighthouse encountered several historic dairy farms that the National Park Service is allowing operators to maintain. Fascinating to us were the numbers of deer we were encountering throughout the area — not just a deer or two, but clusters of them and all pretty tame.

Along the way to the lighthouse, we saw several signs for roads leading to the park’s many beaches. We took a little side trip down to Drake’s Beach where it is surprising to see, on this pristine beach, a National Park Service restaurant. This and other Point Reyes beaches are wilderness beaches that seem to put you in tune with Nature. An airplane could have you in San Francisco in 10 minutes — but this felt like the other side of the world.

At the end of the road was the lighthouse, an easy—if slightly uphill—15-minute walk from where vehicles are parked. The lighthouse is way out on a cliff and, just beyond, there are miles and miles of open sea. From the Lighthouse Visitor Center it is a 308-step walk down to the lighthouse — which is also 308 steps back up. Many visitors are content to enjoy the views from the observation area. On the day we were there, those views included several migrating whales that are easily visible with binoculars.

Near the lighthouse are several trails that take you out to breathtaking ledges where there the powerful sea washes onto the rocky coastline hundreds of feet below.

After a fair amount of exploring, we next drove our way back to the Bear Valley Visitor Center to get some maps and information for further exploration of the preserve. It soon became obvious that our quick overnight trip to Point Reyes would only scratch the surface of the natural attractions in this area. In the north part of the preserve, for example, you can find herds of elk. Or you can take a short walk from the Visitor Center up to Kule Loklo, a replica of a Coast Miwok Indian Village.

We took a little hike from the Visitor Center along the Earthquake Trail, where the path follows the San Andreas fault line. It’s incredible when you see just how much the ground moved during the 1906 earthquake — the two sections now are 20 feet apart.

AT A GLANCE

WHERE: Point Reyes National Seashore is just an hour’s drive north of the San Francisco Bay area. It’s easy to include in any Northern California vacation itinerary.

WHAT: The park is an expansive area that, for the most part, has been left untouched by man and offers a close-up look at the rugged natural beauty of the California coastline.

WHEN: Year-round. Temperatures in the area are moderate, although fog can develop. Always check for travel deals and vacation packages during the shoulder seasons. Last minute travel deals are sometimes possible, depending upon the lodging operator.

WHY: The park provides easy access to a wide variety of trails and natural attractions sure to appeal to visitors of all ages. There are other attractions not too far away: Drive inland a ways and you’ll start to come across several California wineries. Even the big city’s not far away with San Francisco just an hour’s drive. If you’re looking for variety, this is a great place to go for your Northern California vacation.

Praga esta llena de lugares tan bellos, que falta tiempo para poder recorrerlos todos. Terminando de caminar por la catedral de San Vito entramos al Strahovsky Klaster o monasterio de Strahowww.pis.cz/sp/praga/…/monasterio_de_strahov v esto significa ” salvaguardar”.

Este  monasterio durante los siglos tuvo varias remodelaciones por que sufrió de algunos incendios, primero fue estilo gótico y luego lo realizaron estilo renacentista. Luego nos explico el guia de turistas que este sitio lo destruyeron el ejercito  Sueco cuando fue la guerra de los treinta años. Fue de nueva cuenta construido de forma barroca  y luego neoclásica.

Visitamos aquí tambien la capilla de San Roque es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praga     así como la iglesia de la Asunción, aquí en el monasterio entramos a conocer la gran bibliotecawww.disfrutapraga.com/monasterio-strahov  que hay, en donde tiene  grandes  manuscritos, libros de los siglos  IX al XVII y muchos mapas antiguos increíbles. 

Después de esta visita, fuimos a  comer a uno de los restaurantes de la zona, la cerveza de la zona  es excelente ,es algo que uno como turista  no debe dejar probar

While the regular season has come to an end, GMs, Owners, and front office officials have began the team evaluation process.  While I have been reading many different takes where some notable free agents will wind up, I have to throw my opinion in the mix!  It’s just just about free agents though.  Many teams will need to reevaluate the entire direction their franchise is taking.  A few teams to watch are the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox.

The Mets are one of the most poorly positioned teams in all of baseball.  They have a pathetic farm system, almost no infield, and their outfield consists of Carlos Beltran.  Not to mention Johan Santana is their only pitcher.  Here’s the real problem the Mets face though.  If they sign a big name TYPE A free agent they will give up one of their much needed 1st round draft picks.  If they don’t go after free agents, they will rush up the little talent in the minors that they have.  The Mets need to trade Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran in order to bring in some young talent and replenish their farm system.  If you are a Mets fan hold on, it’s going to be a bumpy road!

The Red Sox are in a different boat.  They are oozing with young talent, but they need to win now.  Their rotation is looking pretty solid with Beckett, Dice-K, Buchholz, and Lester.  Their rotation anchored by Papelbon and Bowden is also shaping up quite nicely.  Now for the problem.  Jacoby Ellsbury and JD Drew are expected to hold down two of their outfield spots, but they still need one more.  If they don’t sign either Holliday or resign Bay they will need to fill a large void in their outfield and lineup.  Ortiz is aging and is not the same hitter he once was.  Youkilis carried the team last year, but can he do it again?  Oh, and they don’t have a shortstop.  Personally I think they should resign Alex Gonzalez, he is an above average SS on defense and has mediocre batting ability.  The Red Sox need to make a splash.  I love the idea of acquiring  Adrian Gonzalez from San Diego, but the Padres may not want to move him if they want to keep fans in the seats. Dare I say it, but the Tigers need to move some of their salaries and a Miguel Cabrera and Josh Beckett reunion may make the Red Sox a potent team.

Se acerca Navidad, se acerca época de regalos, y se acerca el día de Reyes… yo he sido muy buena este año, así que espero muchos muchos regalos.
Mamá desde hace días (creo) que me hace un poco de chantaje, todo el tiempo que trato de sobornarla y hacer mis negociaciones para salirme con la mia me repite la misma cantaleta: “Laia, se buena eh, que los reyes te están mirando…“, pobre de mi, coaccionada ante tanta presión no me queda más que ceder y portarme (como según los grandes) es debido… así que nada de quitarle los juegos a Àlex, nada de robar ositos a las 7:00 am, nada de esconder los chupetes en mi chaqueta, nada de no querer bañarme, nada de mojar a papá enterito a la hora del baño… bueno, vamos, que me están quitando toda la diversión…

¿y valdrá la pena?

Vamos, que comenzaré a hacer la carta a los Reyes, porque si tan tan tan buena soy, pues muchos muchos muchos regalos mereceré, ¿o no?

Al menos este año les daré mi más preciado tesoro: mi chupete… a ver cómo nos la apañamos sin él.

… y recordad: “Sed buenos, que los reyes nos miran…”

La cereza del pastel vacacional comienza el día 12 de diciembre día de la muy Mexicana Virgen de Guadalupe, y Santa Patrona de los Mexicanos, por lo que la mayoría de las empresas aún sin ser día oficial lo dan libre para evitar problemas religiosos con los trabajadores y así comienza el famosísimo puente Guadalupe –Reyes que termina  el día 6 de enero con la llegada de los Reyes magos. Esto quiere decir que desde el día 12 de diciembre hasta el día de reyes, en la mayoría de las oficinas se nos va en comidas y celebraciones de fin de año las cuales duran de las 2 de la tarde hasta la madrugada siguiente esto sin contar con los consabidas posadas que aunque oficialmente empiezan el 16 de diciembre en México inventamos el puntadón de la pre-posadas que se ha vuelto tradición y que nos lleva  a la visita real de los amigos y familias desde el día 12 de diciembre.

Hay un término -sabrá alguien por quién acuñado-, que se ha oído mucho últimamente y corresponde al de “renovarse en el éxito”. Lo destaco en esta oportunidad, considerando que ese será el nuevo objetivo para los de calle Independencia.

Fueron necesarios dos campeonatos; apertura y clausura, tres técnicos y una definición, para que este año Santiago Wanderers pudiese alcanzar el tan anhelado ascenso. Todo gracias a  una base definida con hombres claves en puestos estratégicos -que a la larga hicieron la diferencia-, más la cantidad justa de jugadores de casa; siempre necesarios a la hora de buscar una identificación entre el club y su hinchada. Sólo así se pudo lograr el retorno al fútbol grande de Chile.

No hace mucho la comunidad porteña se dividía entre un Movimiento de Restauración y una, prematuramente difamada, Sociedad Anónima Deportiva Profesional. Esta misma gente de los cerros veía cómo el decano se caía a pedazos y poco quedaba de esa rara mixtura que suele caracterizar a  los equipos de puerto; solidez en base al empuje y, por sobre todo, mucha mística. Justamente los ingredientes que se vieron el año 2001 con el último título verde de Primera División.

Luego vinieron los años en que por no haber dinero para refuerzos, los jugadores de casa tuvieron que ponerle el hombro, aquellos que llevan la del verdao en la piel y que pasaron sin darse cuenta quizás de niños a hombres. Fue así como surgieron los Reyes, los Ubilla, los Godoy y los Méndez, por la necesidad, por el hambre y la polenta…lo que es la esencia de la gente de Valparaíso, de Santiago Wanderers de Valparaíso.

Hemos comenzado el estudio del siglo XVIII español y hemos visto cómo el comienzo de dicho siglo vino marcado por la llegada al trono de nuestro país de la dinastía de los Borbones.

Así es, el Atlético de Madrid ha llegado tarde a tan maravillosa competición, a esa Liga que es capaz de parar Europa entre semana, y de parar el tiempo desde las 20:45 hasta las 22:45. Los partidos de la Champions son otra historia, es la mejor competición por clubes del Planeta y el Atlético ha llegado 3 partidos tarde, justo los que le han privado de seguir adelante. Se le han escapado muchos puntos ante equipos menores como el Oporto o el Apoel. Pero esto es el Atlético de Madrid y hay que seguir adelante, porque nos caemos para aprender a levantarnos.

El partido de ayer valió mucho más que un punto para una plantilla que estaba tocada moralmente, sirvió para demostrarse así mismo que si quieren pueden, que son capaces de dar un baño de fútbol a todo un Chelsea. Se pudo ver un Atlético enchufado desde el minuto 1, presionando con cabeza y sabiendo contener a un equipo tan poderoso físicamente. Cléber Santana y especialmente Paolo Asunçao fueron capaces de complicar la salida del balón de Essien y Lampard, lo malo es que hemos tenido que esperar a la 4ª jornada de la Liga de Campeones para verlo. Otro punto en favor del Atlético es la posible recuperación de un jugador diferente como Reyes, que ayer demostró que tiene categoría para triunfar de nuevo, pero no debe quedarse aquí, tiene que seguir luchando. También hay que destacar la brillante aparación de Agüero, demostró que un crack aparece en las grandes noches europeas para convertirse en protagonista absoluto. Los dos golazos que marcó le servirán para llegar al derby más enchufado que nunca.

Pero el partido de ayer también le debe valer a Quique Sánchez F. para corregir diferentes fallos evidentes del equipo que le pueden hacer perder muchos puntos. La fragilidad defensiva y la capacidad para conceder ocasiones de gol al contrario son errores que Quique tiene que corregir de una vez.

Un partido como el de anoche pone a cada jugador en su lugar, Sinama demostró que la camiseta rojiblanca le queda demasiado grande y que no sirve para el Atlético porque su mediocridad asusta, además Quique debe encontrar una fórmula para dinamizar el juego del Atleti, y buscar una figura que ayude a Paolo Asunçao a sacar el balón.

La Europa League es poco consuelo para la afición rojiblanca pero es la única forma de seguir viajando por Europa. El Atleti ha llegado tarde a la Champions, esperemos que llegue a tiempo a la Liga, la cita es este sábado a las 22:00 en el Vicente Calderón, la afición rojiblanca le estará esperando.
