Un film molto rock. Così come la rassegna organizzata da A.Do. events, in programma per tutto il mese di novembre al Caffè delle Filande di Sarno.
The letter from the Apostle John to believer’s at large (commonly known as First John or I Joh

The letter from the Apostle John to believer’s at large (commonly known as First John or I John) has a recurring theme about commandments; specifically that “we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.” (I John 2:3 NKJV)

This raises a question, at least for me: “Which commandments is John referring to?”.

There are those who would quickly suggest: “The 10 Commandments”.

One problem that I find with this answer is that no where in the Old or New Testament are those 10 commandments, which are listed in Exodus 20:2-17 and again in Deuteronomy 5:6-21 that those commandments are specifically singled out and referred to as “these are the big 10, you can slack off on all the rest but pay attention to these“.

In fact, when Jesus was asked point blank about what the greatest commandment was (Matthew 22:34-40), he didn’t refer to either of these two enumerations, but rather he quoted another passage:

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’”

The first part of his answer is a quote of Deuteronomy 6:5, and the second a quote of Leviticus 19:18.

It is true that commentators have drawn parallel’s between Jesus’ greatest commandment and the so called First Commandment, and even suggest that the first 4 of the 10 are summed up in this greatest commandment. They also suggest that the remaining 6 commandments are summed up in Jesus’ second greatest commandment.

However, the Jesus’ first and greatest commandment is a quotation of what is referred to in Judaism as the “Sh’ma”, taken from the first Hebrew word in the passage which means “Listen”. The Sh’ma has been used as a prayer to be recited daily in a personal context, and often weekly in the context of Sabbath worship. (“Listen or Israel, the Lord your God is One…”)

Christians and the 4th Commandment

Another problem with suggesting that John is referring specifically to the 10 commandments is that Christians do not keep the 4th commandment. I know that there are those who might suggest that somehow that Sunday has become the Christian Sabbath, however there is just no Biblical evidence to support this transfer from the seventh day to the first.

So if John is suggesting that we must keep “His Commandments” meaning the “10 Commandments”, then we have broken one already, and continually. And as James 2:10 suggests, no matter how perfectly we keep the whole law, if we break one of them, it is like breaking all of them. So if we don’t even try to keep all of them, then how can we say that we are keeping “His Commandments”.

So Which Commandments, and Why ?

So that brings me back to the title of this post. I have no idea what (or which) commandments, that John was referring to. Obviously, he did. And more obviously, he expected that his readers would as well. So I’m posing the question to myself – and to any who may stumble across this posting – “What Commandments?”

Looking through the search terms that bring people to my blog, I like to keep track of trends to fin

Looking through the search terms that bring people to my blog, I like to keep track of trends to find out what kind of information people are looking for. During the last two months most of the searches have revolved around 1) Paladin Leveling (always my highest search), 2) New Druid Skins 3) New BoA Chest pieces and whether or not they stack with the shoulders, 4) what items drop from a particular instance (usually SM and Ulda), and then there’s an ongoing list of various other topics.

I have already covered Paladin Leveling quite a bit, I have two or three posts discussing the new druid skins and how to change them, and I have at least three posts mentioning that the new BoA chests do stack with the shoulders for a total of +20% experience. That leaves me then with the task of covering what items drop from which instances.

But, I don’t want to just jump right over to Scarlet Monastery, so instead I am going to start a series that covers each of the various instances from the lowest up to the highest. I do not plan on covering any raids with this list due to the massive amount of items that can be found in them, but I will cover the regular 5-man instances. If I notice a lot of people showing interest in them then I will keep it up, if not then I will probably go ahead and stop wherever I happen to be at the time.

Scope
The scope of this series of posts is to cover what rare (Blue) and epic (Purple) loot drops from the bosses and rare spawns. There are rare and epic world drops that can be found in most instances, but for the most part I’m not going to bother covering those in this series either. In some instances I will list this sort of information, or I might list rare spawns that are located very close to the instance like I do here with Wailing Caverns. For the most part though, I will be sticking strictly to the blue items that are dropped by the bosses.

Ragefire Chasm

Generally the loot in RFC is not going to be all that great. Some of the boss drops are pretty good for early levels, but most of the items you find will be trash, white, or low quality greens. There’s a reasonable amount of Linen Cloth to be found there, as well as a few Tigerseye and Malachite from time to time, but this is not the place to farm them.

The green items that you find here will all disenchant into either Strange Dust or Lesser Magic Essence, while the Blue items dropped by the bosses will give you Small Glowing Shards. Small Glowing Shards are only used for about four to six total enchantments, and all of those are low level. So farming them to some extent is good for selling on the Auction House to help new enchanters “power level” their enchanting early on, but I wouldn’t particularly suggest doing it.

There are technically five bosses in RFC, but one of them is for a paladin-only quest (and drops nothing of value), and two others are called bosses but do not drop binding gear nor are they much harder than the trash mobs to take down. So, while technically there are 5 bosses, I’m only going to bother listing the two that actually drop blue, binding gear. RFC is one of the few old world instances in the game that does not have a Rare Spawn.

Jargosh the Invoker
Cavedweller Bracers
[Mail Wrist, 78 Armor, +3 Str, +4 stam]
A nice set of starting bracers for any Paladin or Warrior. Pretty commonly used by level 19 twinks as well.

Chanting Blade
[1H Dagger, 1.5 Speed, 12.0 DPS, +3 Agi, +2 Stam]
A pretty strong dagger given it’s minimum level, also has great stats for Rogues and Hunters in this level range.

Robe of Evocation
[Cloth Chest, 35 Armor, +4 Stam, +5 Int, +5 Crit]
One of the best low level robes you can get without having to have the help of higher level characters. There are certainly better robes available prior to level 20, but this is a great start especially for a Mage, Priest, or Shaman who will see more benefit from crit than other casters at this level.

Taragaman the Hungerer [Instance Boss]
Crystalline Cuffs
[Cloth Wrist, 15 Armor, +2 Int, +2 Spirit, +4 Spell Power]
Easily the best caster bracers you can get for early on in the game. Any class and spec that is going to be using spells can pick this up and use it for a good while. Most caster twinks use this for their wrist slot.

Cursed Felblade
[1H Sword, 2.6 Speed, 12.3 DPS, Chance on Hit: Reduce target's Attack Power by 25 for 30 seconds]
A pretty decent sword used for flushing your opponent’s attack power down the drain for a time. Low level tanks tend to pick this up more than anyone else though Rogues frequently use it as well to make up for their lack of armor.

Subteranean Cloak
[Back, 17 Armor, +4 Str, +4 Agi]
This cloak is one of the best you can get for low level melee characters. Depending on what mix of stats you prefer it can rank anywhere in the top 4 cloaks obtained from bosses and rare spawns within instances.

Wailing Caverns

Much of the regular loot drops here will be the same as RFC, only in much larger quantity. You will find Linen Cloth here as well as a small amount of Wool Cloth. There are tons of trash items, white items, and food in WC, and there is a rather large supply of green items as well. You can add Shadowgems to the list of “gems” that you find in WC, and some of the mobs drop herbs in here as well. This is also the first instance you come across that allows you to gather mats for your professions as you can use Skinning, Mining, and Herbalism all in here as their are nodes for each and the instance is overrun with beasts that can be skinned.

WC has a total of eight bosses, one of which is triggered only by an event, and one Rare Spawn as well. One of the eight bosses, Kresh, is not technically a boss but instead is neutral to everyone so he is entirely optional and is not any harder to kill than most of the other elite trash mobs in the instance. Even so, he does drop rare bind on pickup items like other bosses so he makes it onto the list.

Lady Anacondra
Belt of the Fang
[Waist, Leather, 49 Armor, +5 Agility, +6 Stamina]
This is one of the better belts you can get for this level if you happen to wear leather. It is also a part of the Fang Set, so you will receive extra bonuses for each item you are able to find and equip at once.

Snakeskin Bag
[12 slot bag]
Not a bad little bag for this low level, especially if you do not already have a higher level character providing you with bags. Out of all of the many runs I have made in WC though I have only seen this drop three times.

Serpent’s Shoulders
[Shoulder, Leather, 68 Armor, +9 Agility]
These are one of the best leather shoulder items you can get before level 20, especially if you are a Rogue, Hunter, or Feral Druid. With the exception of the BoA shoulders that you purchase with a level 80 character, these are the best shoulders you will find for a leather melee dps class prior to level 20.

Lord Serpentis
Footpads of the Fang
[Feet, Leather, 62 Armor, +6 Agility, +6 Stamina]
The best set of low level leather boots for a melee dps class. Twinks will use it until they can be replaced by Arathi Basin PvP boots.

Venomstrike
[Ranged, Bow, Speed 2.40, 15.8 dps, Equip: Chance to strike your ranged target with a Venom Shot for 31 to 45 Nature damage.]
Considered to be the best bow for the level range and the preferred ranged weapon of every bow-wielding class in the level 19 twink bracket.

Savage Trodders
[Feet, Mail, 134 Armor, +9 Stamina]
A strong set of mail boots with a high boost to stamina. Great for tanks or any mail wearing class.

Serpent Gloves
[Hands, Cloth, 25 Armor, +6 Intellect, Increases spell power by 7.]
Very strong caster gloves, one of the favorites among twinks. There are three sets of gloves in the game that have these exact stats now that earlier patches have changed +Healing and +Damage into the same stat. These are the second best caster gloves you can find for a twink, beaten only by a very rare world drop.

Lord Pythas
Stinging Viper
[One-Hand, Mace, Speed 2.80, 15.5 dps, Chance on hit: Poisons target for 7 Nature damage every 3 sec for 15 sec.]
A decent mace weapon. Often used in PvP battles to keep rogues from using their stealth abilities.

Armor of the Fang
[Chest, Leather, 91 Armor, +8 Strength, +8 Stamina]
The third best leather chest armor for the level, second best for Horde. The Tunic of Westfall (Alliance only) is the best piece, followed by the Blackened Defias Armor found in Deadmines (which will be covered in the Deadmines post in this series). Twinks (leather dps classes) who cannot manage to obtain either of the other pieces mentioned go for this one instead.

Lord Cobrahn
Cobrahn’s Grasp
[Waist, Mail, 111 Armor, +8 Strength, +3 Agility]
A great mail belt for any class that can wear it. It’s not the best but it’s certainly far from the worst.

Leggings of the Fang
[Legs, Leather, 79 Armor, +5 Strength, +9 Agility, +4 Stamina]
The best leather pants for any melee dps class below level 20 and favored by twinks.

Robe of the Moccasin
[Chest, Cloth, 40 Armor,+6 Stamina, +6 Spirit, Increases spell power by 7.]
One of the better cloth chest pieces for low level casters. Priests and Warlocks tend to want it more than other casters as the stats are more aligned to their classes, but it is a great piece for any low level caster.

Verdan the Everliving [Instance Boss]
Living Root
[Two-Hand, Staff, Speed 2.90, 21.2 dps, , +2 Stamina, +12 Spirit, Increases spell power by 6.]
A decent staff used primarily to help with mana regen between battles if you have access to something better. If not, the staff still serves as a solid choice for casters with its spell power bonus. Enhancement shamans can make good use of this weapon during low levels as well with good stats and a high dps for its level as well.

Seedcloud Buckler
[Off Hand, Shield, 566 Armor, 11 Block, +6 Intellect, +3 Spirit]
One of the best shields for low level shamans due to the bonus Intellect, and a decent shield for any other class that can use it as well. Low level shields that are better than this come only in the form of rare world drops.

Skum
Glowing Lizardscale Cloak
[Back, 20 Armor, +6 Agility, +2 Stamina]
A great low level cloak for rogues and hunters due to the high agility bonus. It’s not the best cloak you can find at this level, but it has a good drop rate and will serve you well until you can get your hands on a better one.

Tailspike
[One-Hand, Dagger, Speed 1.80, 14.4 dps, +4 Strength, +3 Agility]
A decent dagger with a great stats, rogues and hunters may both go for this one. Rogues will find better blades overall in Deadmines, but the Tailspike can certainly serve you well until you manage to get a hold of those.

Special Note: This boss can be skinned, and he drops an exceptional amount of leather, usual 1-6 each of up to three different types of leather. Leather types include Light Leather, Medium Leather, Light Hides, and Medium hides.

Kresh [Neutral Boss, Optional]
Kresh’s Back
[Off Hand, Shield, 471 Armor, 9 Block, Equip: Increases defense rating by 6 (8 @ L15).]
One of the best tanking shields you can get for low level, despite it having a lower Armor rating than both of the other shields found inside Wailing caverns. The bonus to defense rating is almost unheard of on low level gear.

Worn Turtle Shell Shield
Worn Turtle Shell Shield
[Off Hand, Shield, 513 Armor, 9 Block]
A strong armor rating and a decent block rate, it’s a decent shield for those that can use it.

Special Note: This boss can be skinned, for Light Leather, Medium Leather, Light Hides, and Medium Hides

Deviate Faerie Dragon [Rare Spawn]
Firebelcher
[Wand, Speed 1.70, 20.3 dps]
A strong choice of a wand for its level. The lack of bonus stats makes it worth a bit less than other wand options at your level.

Feyscale Cloak
[Back, 19 Armor, +4 Stamina, Equip: Increases spell power by 5]
A great low level caster cloak that can be found pretty easy if you ever manage to find the rare spawn itself. Cloaks such as the Spidersilk Drape made from the Tailoring profession can outshine it, but it’s a good cloak regardless.

Special Note: When I say “Rare” spawn, I mean to say RARE!!! spawn. After literally hundreds of runs through this instance I have only ever seen this spawn twice. Other people claim to have found it several times but that’s certainly not my experience.

Noteworthy Trash Mob Drops
All of the druids inside WC have a chance to drop the Gloves of the Fang, which are easy to sell and good to equip as well if you are a leather wearing dps class. They are also the only piece of the “Fang Set” that are not BoP and can be sold on the AH. Many people run this instance so they are sometimes in large supply on the AH, but they do usually sell for 25-60g depending on the server. The most I have ever found in a single run through the instance is three Gloves of the Fang in one run through.

There are also two rare spawns located right outside of the entrance to the instance, both of which can drop blue items, though they aren’t guarenteed drops.

Trigor the Lasher (wowhead listing)
Runescale Girdle
[Waist, Mail, 104 Armor, +8 Strength]
A decent choice for a mail belt with a large strength bonus.

Serpent’s Kiss
[One-Hand, Axe, Speed 2.50, 13.4 dps, Chance on hit: Poisons target for 7 Nature damage every 3 sec for 15 sec.]
A decent axe that is used much like the Stinging Viper up above. It’s a good weapon for PvE and used occasionally in PvP for the sake of keeping rogues from using their stealth.

Boahn (wowhead listing)
Boahn’s Fang
[Two-Hand, Axe, Speed 2.50, 17.6 dps, +9 Strength, Improves critical strike rating by 4 (2.12% @ L15).]
This axe usually sells for anywhere from 25-150g on the auction house because it is BoE, and it is one of the strongest weapons you can get at low level for any class that can wield it. At low level the extra crit from this item shows through far more frequently than it does at higher levels.

Sri Lanka needs to introduce restrictions on single-shareholder stakes and multiple ownership of registered finance companies (RFCs) by a single individual or group, RAM Ratings Lanka has said.

It said in a report that after the collapse of two finance firms last year, the Central Bank has taken steps to strengthen the corporate governance practices of RFCs, such as board composition, board committees and related-party transactions.

“In addition, we believe that restrictions should be imposed on single-shareholder limits and multiple ownership of RFCs by a single individual/group,” RAM Ratings said in a report on the island’s RFCs.

“In this regard, the requirement to list all RFCs by 2011 is viewed positively as it would dilute their shareholding structures and improve transparency.”

The agency said it anticipates RFCs will place more emphasis on risk management and corporate governance in future, mainly in view of the loss of public confidence following the recent financial scandals…

October is an exciting month here in Rochester. Not just because of Halloween (don’t tell me you haven’t seen our sweet collection of Halloween costumes!), but because it’s also one of the only days of the year where over 3,000 of us Rochesterians get together to support our friend Ken DaCosta and his event, the Rochester Fall Crawl. The Fall Crawl raises money for the American Cancer Society, and Ken has raised over $30,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research over the 3 years since the crawl started, and it gets better every year. CrazyDog was honored to once again be a part of the action helping Ken to create the shirts we will all be wearing this year. The vibrant white and pink tees feature this years logo on the front, and the Crawl Route on the back. The Womens tshirts are printed on our super soft Avil tees (fashion fit), and the Mens are on 100% cotton Hanes Tagless tees. they look great, and fit even better!

In the Rochester area and want to participate? Stop out to Salingers, Temple Bar, or Easy on East (formerly Milestones) around 3pm tomorrow to grab a wristband and a shirt. Not in the area, or just want to support the cause virtually? You can do that too! Visit the Fall Crawl website (rochesterfallcrawl.com) or become a fan on the Facebook page. Every dollar counts! Remember, “Big or Small, Save them All!”.

Good luck Kenny! We love ya buddy!!

No matter what book or manual you use to study for the CCNA examination, you will see various protoc

No matter what book or manual you use to study for the CCNA examination, you will see various protocols and processes referencing an RFC. And, although frequently referenced, the RFCs are seldom actually included in the documentation. So, the logical question becomes, “What is an RFC and where can I find them?”

In the computer network engineering and design realm, a Request for Comments (RFC) is a memorandum published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) describing methods, behaviors, research, or innovations applicable to the working of the Internet, along with Internet-connected systems.

Through the organization known as the Internet Society, designers, engineers, and computer scientists can publish papers or discourses in the form of an RFC, either for peer review or simply to share new concepts, information, or (occasionally) engineering humor. Peer review is an important process of subjecting your work, research, or personal ideas to the scrutiny of others who are usually considered to be experts in the same field. The IETF will then adopt some of the proposals published as RFCs as “Internet Standards.”

The beginning of the RFC format and process occurred in 1969 as part of the original ARPANET project, which was a wide-area experimental network connecting hosts and terminal servers together. Procedures were set up to regulate the allocation of addresses, and to create voluntary standards for the network. The authors of the first RFCs actually used typewriters to create their work and passed hard copies among the ARPA researchers.

Unlike the modern RFCs, many of the early RFCs were actual requests for comments. The RFC left questions open and was written in a less formal style. This less formal style is now typical of Internet Draft documents, the precursor step before being approved as an RFC.

The RFCs turned out to provide a convenient, useful vehicle for documentation and distribution of the research performed by the developers of the Internet, and ended up becoming the official record of the Internet’s design decisions, architecture, and technical standards. Although they remained named “Request For Comments,” by consensus they are the Internet documents of record, and often include very detailed technical information.

Now, working groups of the IETF do most of the work on standardization of Internet protocols as they go through proposed standard, draft standard, and actual standard phases. A protocol published as a proposed standard is usually intended to become an actual standard, but is not promoted to draft standard for at least six months, to allow time for the Internet community to review and comment. A draft standard is not promoted to full standard for at least four months, after operational experience has been obtained, and when there is demonstrated interoperability between two or more independent implementations

There are a wide range of official Internet protocol standards. Fortunately, there is a complete list of official standards documented in the Request for Comments documents, with a recent version at RFC 3300 and an up-to-date list maintained at RFC-Editor. The first RFC explicitly declared an official standard was RFC 733. The official protocol standards are listed in the following categories:

Standard - Established as a standard protocol by the IESG.

Draft - On track, likely a future standard protocol.

Proposed - Early stage, proposed protocol.

Historic - Older protocols, usually superseded or unused.

Experimental - Research protocols, documented to provide a convenient reference for researchers.

The sixth type, Informational are protocols that were developed by other organizations, such as official standards organizations and commercial network companies. These were sometimes published as RFC’s to provide a standard reference for the IETF. The latest list of information protocols can be found in RFC 2500.

The RFC Editor assigns each RFC a unique serial number. Once assigned a number and published, an RFC is never rescinded or modified. If the document requires amendments, the authors publish a revised document. Therefore, some RFCs supersede others. The superseded RFCs are said to be deprecated, obsolete, or even obsoleted [sic]. Together, the serialized RFCs compose a continuous historical record of the evolution of Internet standards and practices.

The RFC production process differs from the standardization process of formal standards organizations such as the International Standards Organization (ISO). Internet technology experts may submit an Internet Draft without support from an external institution.

Standards-track RFCs are published with approval from the IETF, and are usually produced by experts participating in working groups, which first publish an Internet Draft. This approach facilitates initial rounds of peer review before documents mature into RFCs.

Each protocol is assigned a status of “Required,” “Recommended,” “Elective,” “Limited Use,” or “Not Recommended,” in descending order of priority. Only a very few essential protocols are ever labeled “Required,”

The official source for RFCs on the World Wide Web is the RFC Editor. One may retrieve almost any individual, published RFC (RFC 5000 for instance) via URL in the form of: http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc5000.txt

And, finally, almost every April Fool’s Day (1 April) since 1989, the IETF has published one or more satirical or humorous RFC documents. These special offerings follow the tradition of the June 1973 RFC entitled ARPAWOCKY, which parodied Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem Jabberwocky.

Masalahnya memang agak mustahil la nak dapat set makanan berbuka bawah RM6…Tadi ak tak beli kuih popiah sebab ade goreng cekodok sket. Ak rasa bersalah bile beli makanan pakai duit banyak ni. Tapi mak ak selalu kate, kalau bab2 makan, jangan simpan2 duit. Ak berpegang kpd kata2 tu kot (alasan!). Bagus kalau beli makanan sket je. Perut pun tak lah rase macam nak pecah. Kenyang air je lebih tu. Paling sedap bila kite berkadar2 dan bersederhana…

Senang cakap, duit memang kering/pokai/kokak. Keluar macam air. Tambah dengan bayaran2 wajib *geram betul pasal mende ni* la ape la. Ishhhh.

Is the badger the only one? His football, politics and religion he see’s as being three very different things. He is a Rangers fan, he hopes in his life time to live in a self-governing Scotland and he is a student of Zen. The majority of his family are unionists. As a badger cub his mother put him in the Orange Order. He used to attend meetings and walk in parades wearing his Sash. Incidentally during his time in the Orange Order he was exposed to the fundamental messages, that the organisation is a Christian one and in no way anti-catholic, simply pro-protestant. In any case he was brought up in a badger sett where he never felt obligated to follow the clan lead. When he was 16 he left the Orange Order, to make his own path through life, not one chosen by his family. That journey has for as long as he can remember been done as a loyal fan of Glasgow Rangers.

Christianity wasn’t pushing the badgers buttons but he knew he wasn’t an atheist, Zen is the only spiritual practice that has spoken to him. It was through Cheri Huber’s teachings and the Living Compassion organisation www.livingcompassion.org that he realised ‘control’ is an illusion and there is nothing ‘wrong’. We can save that for another post, back to the point..

The badger is first and foremost proud of being Glaswegian, then Scottish, then British. He believes he can be all three and still want independence. Scotland has it’s own unique and vibrant culture which is worth so much more than the biscuit tin stereotypes prevalent south of the border. The vast majority of English really have no clue what we are all about. The badger is fond of England and of the English, he lived there for several years, infact he came very close to marrying one.. But he is also fond and fiercely proud of this incredible nation of ours. It’s OK for us to be Scottish and also British. An independent Scotland can continue to have historic and cultural ties to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The child promises not to stop loving the foster parents if they give it control of it’s own pocket money..

So, any other Rangers nationalists out there? or is the badger going to have to double chub the Sett door?

While working in the Gwent villages of Crosskeys and Pontywaun he was looking for something beyond the usual tales of life down the mines.

“I was stuck for ideas until I spoke to my 83-year-old aunt Ivy about there not being anyone renowned or famous that had a connection with Crosskeys.

“I explained all I really wanted was some juicy info to pass on to artists involved in doing art commissions in the area. Aunt said: ‘What do you mean? Tarzan was from Crosskeys!’”

She was referring to a man named Rex Richards, a man who has gone down in local folklore for his rugged good looks, amazing sporting prowess and adventures across the globe.

Viv, who works for Groundwork Caerphilly as an environmental coordinator, explained: “This guy was a championship diver, strong swimmer and fitter than a butcher’s dog. He played rugby for Wales and auditioned for a part as Tarzan in America.

“The more I learnt the more I wanted to know but there was very little to go on and I needed to investigate further.”

Viv’s initial research on the internet found although Rex Richards had failed to get the part of Tarzan he had been cast in a low-budget film called the Wild Women Of Wongo.

He also had a nephew, Julian Richards, who was inspired to work in the film industry by his uncle and is now a respected film director in his own right and has produced a number of successful low-budget horror films. He had also worked for Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks company in America.

After sending out e-mails to people he knew in the village Viv was contacted by lifelong Crosskeys Rugby Club member Dai Thomas, who remembered seeing Rex play for the club.

“As a young boy Dai used to sell match programmes and can recall streams of women flocking to the ground just to see Rex play on the hallowed ground of the Pandy,” said Viv.

“Dai used to make quite a bit of profit as these groupies would ask if Rex was playing, when he said ‘yes’ they would be in such a rush to get to the best seat they wouldn’t wait for their change.

“Rex was one of his all-time greats, he loved watching this larger-than-life character play.

“He knew about the Wongo film Rex made and had a few years earlier attempted to screen it at the club to celebrate 50 years since Rex got his Welsh cap. He couldn’t get past the film industry red tape in screening for public viewing. So unfortunately he had to cancel.”

At an art workshop Viv had arranged with sculptor Michael Johnson he had the chance to meet with a lot of the older generation from Crosskeys. It was here he discovered Rex had been given the nickname Tarzan long before his audition for the film.

He revealed: “All of them had fond memories and admiration for the way he played rugby, carried himself in society and also his physical stature.

“One lady told me she was absolutely besotted by Rex and used to melt when he came into her father’s café every Tuesday night after training.

“She said she had never set eyes on anyone since who could come close to Rex in looks and body.

“Women used to flock to Pandy Park on a Saturday, not to watch the rugby, but just to gaze in lustful adoration towards Rex.

“I was also told Rex used to high dive in aqua shows during the summer months and a few of the locals had paid for a trip to see him in Bournemouth.

“When I asked the group about his nickname, Tarzan, many said it came from a combination of his diving background, rugged looks and muscular physique.”

Dai Thomas discovered Rex had a brother called Bill who still lived in Wales, so they went to meet him at his home in Newport.

Bill Richards explained during the 1930s the Richards family lived at One Crown St, Maindee in Newport.

Five brothers and one sister were born to their milkman father and a business-minded mother. Rex was born on February 4, 1934 and as a boy was sent to Stow Hill school with the rest of his brothers.

From a young age Rex took an interest in diving at the local pool and would spend hours perfecting his technique.

In the 40s and 50s aqua shows at lidos and open-air pools were extremely popular and, when one arrived in Newport, Rex and his brother Bill were transfixed, so much so Rex disappeared with the show when it left.

Despite being found and returned home by the police, Rex ran away with the show four more times before he was eventually allowed to leave by his parents.

When he finally got back to South Wales Rex was called up to do National Service and was enlisted into the South Wales Borderers, stationed in Crickhowell. While in the army he got involved with every sport that came his way, including swimming, water polo, boxing, rugby and his beloved diving.

It wasn’t long before Rex became the inter-services diving champion, making him the best diver in all the Armed Forces.

He also started boxing and at around this time Rex reputedly fought and beat a heavyweight boxer by the name of Dick Richardson, who was also from Newport. In 1960 Dick became the European Heavyweight Champion when he beat Hans Kalbfell.

Viv continued: “A regular visitor to the family home was Jack Woods, an Arthur Daley sort of character, who had done a bit of business with Rex’s mother. Jack had his fingers in many pies including being a scout for Crosskeys RFC.

“When he visited the house on this occasion, he noticed a picture of Rex on the wall and his eyes lit up when he saw how big, fit and awesome he had become, and immediately enquired to the mother when Rex was being released from his army service.

“No sooner had Rex returned home Jack persuaded him to start pre-season training and he took to rugby like a duck to water and was installed straight into the first team. Rex enjoyed the physical contact and clearly had the edge over other players because of his stamina and fitness.

“He told his brother Bill, ‘Rugby is quite a simple game to play, you just get the ball and run straight towards the line.’

“I have heard many accounts of Rex in a lineout in his own half, leaping like a salmon to take the ball and then running almost the whole length of the pitch to score a try. There was no doubt from reading all the press articles of that era that, when Rex was playing, Crosskeys were a force to be reckoned with.”

In 1956, at the age of 21, Rex was noticed by the Welsh Rugby Union and despite not playing a full season of club rugby he was chosen to play for his country. He was picked out of position at prop forward for a match against France and the local papers ran with the headline ‘Tarzan picked for Wales’, which led to an American lawyer trying to sue him for the use of Tarzan’s name.

It would be Rex’s one and only game for Wales but he remains the last player from Crosskeys to have gained a cap, which was donated to the club and now sits in a glass cabinet behind the bar.

At the end of the season he decided to move to America in search of new challenges, leaving behind the prospect of a successful rugby career in Wales.

He headed to California, the home of beautiful people, sun, sea and surf. But it was not long before he had run out of money.

Rex started to live off the fish he caught in the sea and the coconuts from the tree he would sleep under and earned cash by selling his homemade suntan lotion to sunbathers.

He soon made his way down the West Coast and across the border into Mexico in search of the clavadistas (cliff divers), a fearless group who dive from heights of 130ft into water just 12ft deep.

Rex quickly joined them and enjoyed hurling himself off the highest points and gaining notoriety for his feats.

He was also making connections in the entertainment and film industry.

After joining a travelling aqua show which went all over America, Rex became one of the top 10 divers in the country.

Rugby was still a big part of his life and in 1957 he represented Ontario against the touring Barbarians side. His job that day was to mark the towering English forward RWD Marques. Cliff Morgan was also playing and the Barbarians won 52-0, and they didn’t lose a match on the whole tour.

Years later, Rex started his own team in New York and along with a few other ex-pats used to play teams around America.

“The film industry soon beckoned and Rex auditioned along with another 1,000 candidates for a new colour Tarzan movie,” said Viv.

“He was shortlisted down to the final two but in the end Rex lost out to Gordon Scott, who had experience of playing Tarzan a few years before.

“While auditioning he was spotted by another director, who offered him the part as King Wongo in The Wild Women of Wongo. This is now regarded as being in the top 10 of the worst Hollywood movies of all time.”

Viv, who has added all of his research to an online blog, added: “When he became more financially secure he settled on the east coast in Miami.

“He made frequent visits back home to Wales to visit family and friends, he would drive up to Crosskeys in a big Cadillac, dressed to the nines in the latest fashionable attire, he certainly stood out among the working class fraternity.”

His life in Miami was idyllic and he always kept in good shape by pumping weights on the beach.

The nightlife was full of entertainment along with dashing girls in abundance. Rex had never drunk alcohol or taken illegal drugs, although he was diagnosed with diabetes as a young boy and always had it in his mind that it was passed on genetically.

Due to this belief he never wanted to have children.

Viv said: “His family occasionally visited him for holidays and Bill said every time he went over the water; Rex would have a different girlfriend hanging out with him.

“When his nephew Julian was a youngster he paid visits to Miami and Rex used to tell him stories of the film industry. Julian had a super eight cine camera bought for him and used to run around filming shots like a big Hollywood director. Rex certainly planted a seed and use to give him advice on the best camera angles and lighting for close-up shots.”

In 1989 during a visit from his mother Rex suffered a massive heart attack while in the shower and died.

When the family cleared up his estate, they discovered boxes of money and assets all over the place, totalling nearly £750,000.

His funeral was planned for back home in Newport and arrangements had been made for his burial at Christchurch Cemetery.

But his funeral had to be cancelled at the last minute due to the fact that the airline company lost his body during transit.

He was eventually found, and laid to rest in an unmarked grave. This was his wish, as he had no strong religious beliefs. There was only one flag that was ever going to drape his coffin, his beloved Crosskeys Rugby Club.
