Yay! Finally! My first calendar. I’ve been really wanting to do one for oh…about 3 years now. Looks like I finally did it friends. This new release is my 2010 ‘What Day Is It Today?’ Calendar, freshly printed and available now on my website, in the Gigposters.com classifeds and at my Etsy shop or in my 1000 Markets shop.

Calendars are very helpful. Especially if you wake up like I do, a little confused and asking the same question every morning. We all have a moment when you can’t always connect up the day of the week with a date and have to ask that same question: ‘What day is it today?’ Well, I’m here to help! Running Sunday – Monday, this traditionally laid out calendar will never leave you guessing. Ahh, if only it could find those missing keys too.

Here is my 3-color, all hand screenprinted calendar with baby blue, sunny orange and black hand mixed and non-toxic water based inks. Edition of only 50 Size: 11 x 19 inches (27.9 cm x 48.3 cm.) Paper: very sturdy French Sno Cone Muscletone 140lb cover weight stock.

Would you be surprised to learn that Ms Cook matched Kevin O’Leary to an English bull terrier?  Probably not. But apparently finding an apricot poodle with a coat that was just the right shade of red to represent Arlene Dickinson was a far greater challenge. My first real web design project is showing some success. Coding a website can be a lot of work. Getting content to display correctly in all web browsers, since different browsers interpret CSS code differently, can be a frustrating process. But overall I am satisfied with the result of my efforts so far. My brand new home page is pretty much finished and live on the internet now > www.elindse.com. I have probably spent more time designing the graphics than anything else. I didn’t want it to be one of those pages where all the links are just underlined text. The design process is a combination of Photoshop, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver, although the imagery of the nav-bar buttons was done in Rhinoceros. The buttons all work but only the “My  Blog” has a viewable target, the other buttons work but the pages they link to have not been created yet.

Habe mich am Wochenende das erstemal mit dem Programm Grasshopper beschäftigt und hier sind die ersten Ergebnisse einer “Turm”-Genese…nach einem Tutorial das ich im Netz gefunden habe

Je me suis arrêté, interdit. Une œillade lancée à mon compagnon de route me confirma la vision irréelle qui s’offrait à moi. Une myriade de fourmis rouges et noires, complices pour la cause d’un jour, qui s’enhardissaient à faire voguer une sorte de coque de noix géante aménagée en bâtiment des mers, visible sur le ruisseau qui zigzaguait le long du chemin, nouveau ru qui avait été formé par les dernières ondées diluviennes. De toute ma vie d’éléphant-guerrier, je n’avais jamais vu un si étrange équipage. Le navire de fortune serpentait mollement, se glissant au travers des feuilles et diverses fleurs tombées de leur piédestal, ainsi que des reliefs de repas jetés à terre dans le grand ménage de la veille au soir.

Certaines bestioles s’agrippaient à des morceaux de ficelle lestés de minuscules cailloux, certainement pour faire varier leur vitesse. D’autres s’acharnaient à maintenir verticale une feuille ronde et luisante, d’un vert amazonien à donner envie de chlorophylle, qui s’agitait vaporeusement aux chatouillements du vent léger de l’après-midi. Chacune s’affairait dans une ambiance qui n’avait de fouillis que l’apparence, tout le monde sachant pertinemment que les fourmis sont les êtres vivants les plus organisés ou si ce n’est pas le cas, ne sont pas très loin de l’être. La commandante semblait être une fourmi longue, brune et brillante. Une brindille lui couvrait le dos et lui conférait ainsi la prestance nécessaire à son poste.

Différentes fourmis tourbillonnaient autour d’elle, rouges et noires, vives et grouillantes d’idées. On les voyait s’arrêter auprès de leur chef de temps à autre, avant de repartir tancer les autres. Elles grouillaient partout sur cette improbable bogue de la largeur d’une belle mangue, et de façon assez comique. Mon compagnon, rhinocéros de son état, avait fait l’Asie dans une autre vie, je lui ai donc demandé s’il avait déjà eu l’occasion de croiser la route de pareille armée. Sa réponse entrecoupée de rires sonores était un régal pour les oreilles. Nous avons donc décidé de faire une pause afin de regarder passer le navire qui circulait à la vitesse d’un escargot en pleine digestion. Il était temps de casser la croûte à l’occasion d’un goûter sorti de la besace des routards que nous étions. Mercenaires aussi quand il fallait manger, mais ça, c’est une autre histoire, une autre vie.

Notre deuxième jour à Chitwan a été consacré aux éléphants : matin nursery et elephant bath (bain des éléphants) et après-midi elephant ride (promenade à dos d’éléphant dans la jungle).

La nurserie des éléphants est située de l’autre coté de la Rapti river, il nous a fallu la traverser en canoë. Toute une épopée de grimper dans ces barques creusées à même le tronc en un seul morceau. Une fois tous dedans (nous 6 + le guide + le batelier) le bateau était tout juste à flot et même parfois l’eau rentrait … Même si ça a duré 5 mn on était peu rassurés… Passons sur la nurserie elle-même qui était quasi vide seulement un bébé de 3 ans et sa mère, car suite à un incendie les bébés ont été mis à l’abri dans la jungle… Puis retour par barque …

Nous avons assisté ensuite au bain des éléphants. Camille l’aventurière a été comme toujours la 1^e volontaire pour la baignade. Pierre-Mary a suivi un peu poussé par sa fille ! Ils se sont bien amusés et ça se voit …

Après le déjeuner nous avons fait un “jungle safari” à dos d’éléphant dans le parc. C’est l’événement attendu par les enfants depuis l’arrivée au Népal. Je dois dire que j’étais assez curieuse de savoir comment ça fait de monter sur ces grosses bébétes … Eh bien nous voilà dessus !

Je dois dire que c’est agréable d’être en hauteur (nous avions l’éléphant le plus grand), en revanche quand il marche, voir trotte, c’est super inconfortable ! Ca remue de partout, et on n’a pas arrêté de se cogner aux barres en bois. Mais l’expérience a été géniale, la jungle était magnifique et on a bien rigolé.

La traversée de la jungle luxuriante :

Les animaux rencontrés en route : Des paons, des biches, des sangliers, un ours à collier (sloth bear) trop rapide pour l’appareil photo, 4 rhinocéros à une corne (dont un de très près). Nous avons donc été très chanceux, certains groupes n’ayant pas vu d’animaux.

This is the next step in Weaire phelam studies. a cellular automata for this space filling structure. its buggy as hell. but im working my ass off. it was done in rhinoscript of course!!!.

This is really WIP, this are my early test of space filling structures. this is the famous weaire phelam.it´s based in two figures, a dodecahedron (12 sides) and a tetrakaidecahedron (14 sides). some images of the early test. the purpouse… don´t have a tiny clue….

the final work will be posted soon…. as soon as i finish and debug the code. (and of course there will be a  show me the code!!post)

When is the last time you saw a rhino doing something lame? Never. Not even the one in the picture above this sentence. Even in the zoo, rhinos are totally bad-ass. What is that you say? They are usually just lying around and they smell bad? You think they are just lazy and useless? Well open your brain hole and pour this awesomeness into it.

Fact:

The rhinoceros can weigh up to 11,000 pounds. Can you do that? Didn’t think so. Sissy.

Rhinos can run up to 35 miles an hour, which means they can charge you and then pierce your chest cavity with their giant horn and you can’t do anything about it. Looks like your chest is lame and rhinos aren’t. Also, Kevlar is useless against rhinos.

Rhinos don’t eat anything but fruit. Fruit is sweet, which means rhinos would probably like candy but are smart enough to understand the usefulness of natural vitamins and minerals. Not to mention, they don’t need candy because it is made my puny humans and a rhino would rather stomp your head than accept your generous gift of cotton candy and zero bars. Don’t even try it, stupid.

The male rhinoceros has nothing to do with the raising of young rhinoceroses. This is because the male species is superior and they are usually busy doing something bad-ass, not changing diapers. That shit is for pussies.

Rhinoceroses are solitary creatures. However, they do congregate at bathing areas and wallowing holes. This is because male rhinoceroses like to watch female rhinoceroses bathe in hot mud and water. It gives them a boner.

The rhinoceros is an excellent swimmer. Rhinos know that swimming is the best way to stay fit and being fit is the best way to kick ass.

Rhinoceroses have excellent hearing and smell. This means that you should be quiet and wash your ass if you want to hang out with rhinos. Otherwise, you might get massacred.

Rhinos have thick skin with flaps covering the more important areas of their bodies. The only think that can pierce a rhinos flesh is adamantium claws*. That means rhinos can only be killed by Hugh Jackman but Hugh Jackman loves rhinos because they are so beastly which by default makes rhinos invincible. The only time a rhino can die is when he feels like it.

Conclusion: Rhinos are totally wicked-sweet and they might be your friend since you’re a reader of my blog and I have a secret pact with all rhinos that provides me access to their powers whenever needed as long as I promote their bad-assness to the masses and don’t color my hair. However, if you are a sissy then you should steer clear of rhinos at all costs because they will smash your face cavity.

*And Chuck Norris, but Chuck Norris also loves rhinos because he respects the size of
their huge rhino sausages and the fact that they are totally awesome and cool.

As an experiment, I decided to let the structure of the copy paper shine through the image. I think it gives an interesting look to the background. I also did some fiddling around in GIMP to make the pencil markings look like ink.

Abgabepläne zu dem konstruktiven Entwurf zum SS09.  Ich habe den Entwurf komplett in Rhinoceros erstellt…jedes andere Programm wäre wohl schnell an gewissen Grenzen gestoßen.

Der Entwurf entstand als Gruppenarbeit mit meinem Kommilitonen Johannes Schaaf.

unser konzept beruht auf der abstrakion einer synapse. sie soll als räumliches sinnbild zum thema kommunikation dienen. die „synapse“, ausgearbeitet als verbindungselement, ermöglichte einen entwurfsansatz von der kleinstmöglichen verbindung, zum modul, zur fläche und schließlich zu einem raumbildenden volumen.

durch das bilden von verschieden großen öffnungen und umgebenden fl ächen, bietet sich eine vielzahl von nutzungen und funktionen der einzelnen module. zur interaktion, zur bespielung der flächen mit informationen, zum aufenthalt oder zur ableitung der statischen Kräfte.

durch die variationen der module in grösse und geschlossenheit entstehen viele möglichkeiten die raumathmosphäre zu beeinfl ussen.

die form der raumbildenden hülle soll dem nutzer ermöglichen den raum von innen wie von außen gleichermaßen zu erleben.
ziel ist es eine umsetzung mit kostengünstigen handelsüblichen materialien zu gewährleisten, die mit wenigen handgriffen montierbar bzw zerstörungsfrei demontierbar ist. zudem sollten die einzelteile in einem lieferwagen transpotierbar sein.

P: Sigue pareciendo un esfuerzo inútil vuestro método “reflexivo-reflectante” en la forma de hacer arquitectura.

R: Es muy claro y muy sencillo. Ambicionamos que la propuesta o el enfoque sobre una idea concreta puedan transformar al hombre. No que la transformación la impongamos en base a espacios conductivos, mediante un objeto tangible ó un espacio construido.

No es un tema por el que discutimos. El propósito de siempre, no es otro más que servirnos de la arquitectura como proceso proyectual, para poner un tema que necesita estar sobre la mesa. A veces de manera irónica, otras de manera quizás más directa. Contamos con este amplio espectro para trabajar, al margen que el resultado final sea constructivamente viable; para nosotros como proceso reflexivo ya lo ha sido. Este es el poder real de la forma de hacer arquitectura. La riqueza de la arquitectura se basa en la confluencia de ideas, en las humanas contradicciones para plantear soluciones, de constantes avatares, no en lo finalmente construido.

P: ¿Puede finalmente haber un punto de partida para llegar a la PLATAFORMA? ¿Una arquitectura que pretende no tener antecedentes para cobrar sentido?

R: El punto de partida tiene origen en mi experiencia personal, mi toma de distancia de mi propio origen, ahora más ajeno, diría que es un concepto Bucle.

P: ¿Recurrir a la memoria aporta salidas a viabilizar la arquitectura de la PLATAFORMA o esa estancia en Bucles infinitos?

R: Soy partidario de no mirar atrás, soy partidario del presente siempre. Del presente activo. Pasa que en estos casos el presente esta íntimamente ligado al pasado, porque aunque parezca paradoja necesitas, recurres, utilizas tu pasado para construir el futuro. Cuando das el salto a lo “desconocido” se activa un mecanismo que blanquea la memoria, preparándose a intentar asimilar las abstractas novedades, ubicándote en un nuevo espacio, para evitar interferencias, distracciones, cáscaras sentimentales, fortaleciendo el esfuerzo. No conviene mirar atrás; la memoria se congela.

P: ¿La memoria se congela?

R: La memoria se congela, la memoria congelada, congela también la arquitectura que dejaste atrás, la imagen fotográfica se torna en la imagen idílica, la postal idealizada, el autoengaño. Pasa que el tiempo que transcurre ha modificado el espacio abandonado. Es como si estuviéramos en un limbo, inconscientes de toda transformación.

Cuando se lleva recorrida una buena distancia (distancia=tiempo), los muros, el revestimiento se hace más denso (piel sobre piel). A los lados del recorrido se van acumulando espacios donde se depositan fragmentos de una “memoria sinuosa”. Espacios, apilamientos que ordenan el caos interior, la desorientación de la ruta en ciernes.

Cuando me pregunto sobre el planteamiento (el plantear – no planificar) de un proyecto/ hábitat para el éxodo, me doy con el sinsentido que el que sale no tiene conciencia de un espacio estático. Todo lo que le rodea se mueve, se tiene que mover, se debe impulsar hacia un pseudo futuro próximo (¿?) – ¿Puede el futuro ser próximo? Una arquitectura estática le provoca estancamiento, produce un no-progreso, no-avance en la construcción de su “futuro próximo”. Tampoco le sirve estar sujeto a un espacio permanentemente dinámico ya que esto se lo podría perfectamente facilitar una simple caravana. Encontramos sentido en que ese espacio dinámico produzca la sensación de un “movimiento estático”, un desplazamiento a ningún lugar, el NO lugar. El que migra busca un lugar en una sociedad, lo encuentra pero no se identifica con él y el paso del tiempo alejado de la sociedad con la que eventualmente podría identificarse hace que ese hilo se afine y finalmente se rompa. Tiene que plantearse el espacio del desencuentro, la fundación de su propio espacio y su personal identidad, una mezcla, un mestizaje entre dos mundos, el espacio estático de una transición infinita, interminable. Un espacio, una arquitectura que albergue un especie de pasadizo habitable, un corredor que genere sensación de ruta (aunque no sepamos exactamente adonde vamos, pero vamos hacia algún lugar).

Es una contradicción desarrollar un elemento arquitectónico para el que deja un espacio entrañable, con una dinámica específica. Todo planteamiento de espacios dinámicos resultará engañoso pues ese “avance” no existe, por lo que el elemento “fingirá” avanzar pero permanecerá siempre estático.

P: ¿Cómo podemos avanzar sin avanzar, ir sin desplazarnos? ¿Ésta, parece una simple retórica?

R: Con el planteamiento de utilizar una cinta elíptica; esa famosa máquina que encontramos en cualquier gimnasio. Pretendemos llevarla a la exageración, al tremendismo macro. “Caminar es carecer de lugar. Es el proceso indefinido de estar ausente y en busca de un sitio propio” dice Delgado en “El animal público”. Es posible que así podamos dar a entender la idea base, el pretender caminar, el pretender desplazarse mediante un esfuerzo sin conseguir moverse del mismo sitio, encontrando el lugar en ti mismo. Haber hecho un importante esfuerzo y no haber recorrido nada, no obtener nada más que tiempo en este caso, un tiempo de esfuerzo inútil, para una intención nula. Es tener la intención, todas las ganas y no avanzar en tus pretensiones.

Definitivamente insisto, no buscamos el final físico sino incidir en los procesos degenerativos. Aquí es cuando la analogía sobre el éxodo y el colesterol mortal cobra más sentido. Tenemos un eje base de circulación, una gran vena que cambia constantemente de diámetros, es decir de entradas y salidas, esta misma vía imprescindible para la existencia de la plataforma puede generar obstrucciones con el paso del tiempo, entradas más amplias o más estrechas, salidas más amplias o más estrechas y a la vez el desarrollo de obstrucciones a todo alrededor adheridas a las paredes interiores o exteriores.

P: ¿Éste planteamiento difiere de la definitiva propuesta: RODAJE?

Se trata de otra visión sobre la misma problemática. Después de cavilar sobre la idea de la “estática dinámica” de la cinta elíptica, en la que tanto hombre como entorno se mantienen inmóviles a partir de un esfuerzo, se planteó la idea inversa que tanto entorno como hombre permanezcan en movimiento constante a partir de ese mismo esfuerzo.

El planteamiento general de ÉXODO no dejará nunca de ser una contradicción. No podemos plantear un “espacio” entendido como recinto estático para quien pretende estar en constante movimiento, es por ello que nos atrajo el concepto de rueda, el de rodar con el recinto. Trabajamos con aquella misma rueda que ratones de laboratorio hacen girar casi instintivamente. En la memoria teníamos las imágenes de aquel manga “setentero”: “los tres espaciales” del maestro Osamu Tezuka en el que apilados dentro de una rueda animales mutantes vivían una serie de aventureras circunstancias. La realidad supera a la ficción y el mutante entorno se produce por exclusiva voluntad del hombre.

P: El proyecto sobre “Los Movimientos Estáticos”. ¿Persigue el mismo fin de sucesión de tiempos?

La propuesta bucle pretende trasladar a la vida cotidiana la finalidad de una cinta sin fin, la de hacer que esta vida y este medio/espacio se confundan, se mimeticen en el sentido del paso del tiempo infinito, del paso del tiempo elíptico, del eterno retorno, de la intención de avanzar sin hacerlo. El tiempo de desplazamiento de las diferentes cápsulas a través de la cinta se mide por periodos de tiempo destinados a efectuar las diferentes funciones diarias dentro de esta cápsula hinchable. Este mismo espacio se adecuaría a la cadena de tiempo-función. De esta manera se evidencia el paso del tiempo sometido a las diferentes funciones función-dormitorio, función-higiene, función-alimentación. Longitud de desplazamiento= paso del tiempo=funciones en determinado espacio.

Es la intención que las diferentes plataformas de desplazamiento se asemejen a las cintas de las cadenas productivas industriales-tal como muchas veces se evidencian los tiempos en la vida cotidiana. El sistema bucle aporta un carácter de producción de espacios simultáneos, pero a su vez un espacio que se recicla, un espacio en permanente movimiento-estático. Por un lado esta el hombre en éxodo, que avanza sin avanzar, acompañado solo de su memoria sin la capacidad o la pretensión de asimilar relaciones nuevas. Por otro lado esta el hombre en éxodo que necesita el permanente intercambio social y de relaciones para asumir y construir su propia identidad, como dice Augé.

Un planteamiento que se descarto pero que guardaba este mismo espíritu, planteaba un espacio central estático, inscrito entre pantallas de video que girarían entorno a él, proyectando las diferentes actividades diarias y noticias acontecidas con la finalidad de mostrar una progresión del tiempo ficticio.
