If you love your  Apple iPhone / iPod, the latest release of Ubuntu from Canonical called Karmic Koala ( the counter part to Microsoft’s Windows 7) is totally compatible for USB connection.

Ubuntu uses Rhythmbox for playing songs and uses FSpot and Gimp for images. The audio quality is excellent ( even if you are using very old hardware like I do) and Gimp is the best image manipulation software -comparable to ones from Adobe- intuitive and easy.

• Tutup dulu Rhythmbox
• Download pluginnya, lewat wget aja sekalian

• Siplah, tinggal aktifin di Edit > Plugins
• Buka deh di Tools > Equalizer

Gnome-OSD is an On Screen Display (OSD) component for Gnome, which will display certain information, like which audio track is playing, and if you’ve received email.

Technically, “it displays messages overlaid on your screen, using shaped windows and pango for rendering. The concept was inspired by XOSD“. In short, text with a transparent background will appear at the top of the screen, then slide down to the centre, then quickly slide back up and out of sight after a few seconds, or if you move your mouse.

It won’t work with every program, since it is designed for Gnome apps, so it will display info for email clients like Evolution, but not others like Thunderbird, and for audio players like the default Rhythmbox, but not KDE ones like Amarok. It will also notify you of incoming IRC chat messages, as well as Pidgin/Gaim buddies actions.

If you’re like me, you probably don’t want OSD messages for incoming email anyway, but just for the current audio track as it starts. If you’re using Thunderbird or similar, then you don’t even need to disable that, but if you’re using a compatible client like Evolution, you will need to access OSD Properties, which you can do via the terminal:

gnome-osd-properties

In the General tab, you will see you can change the font and its size, enable/disable “Animations“, “Drop shadow“, “Sound” and “Hide on mouse hover“. You can also change the “Alignment” from the default “Center” if you like, and also tell it to “Avoid panels“. In the Notifications tab, you can enable/disable “Notify on song changes“, “Notify on IRC messages directed to me” (as well as “Include message text“), “Notify when new email arrives“, and “Notify buddies actions“.

To install Gnome-OSD, search for gnome-osd in Synaptic, or enter sudo apt-get install gnome-osd in a terminal (it should be in the standard repositories, but if you have trouble finding it, add more repos, including the Medibuntu repos).

Note that if you want to change the default colours from yellow and green, as well as other options not in OSD Properties (like border thickness and animation speed), you’ll have to read this for more info.

As I was switching to Rhythmbox, I had a difficult time finding a plugin for gstreamer. The plugin that I needed was gstreamer-faad, but I could not locate it with APT. It turns out that thus plugin is gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. You might find this in a search, or advice to add new sources. Hope this helps.

Of course it would be ridiculous to play music one by one file so we have to create playlists:

dir : Shows a list of all the files available in that directory
cd folder: Goes to folder directory (Replace folder with the name of a folder that you want to access)
cd.. Goes to previous directory

Example: Your music is located in /home/yourusername/Music so you should type cd /home/yourusername/Music

Then, create a playlist of all songs in this folder:

*Tips: Replace abz with the artist name

To play the playlist:

Player musicale Gli estimatori di banshee rimarranno delusi, anche Lucid viaggerà con rhythmbox, per il cambio se ne riparlerà poi per la 10.10. I motivi sono vari, ma il succo della questione è che banshee deve ancora maturare un po’.

Fase di boot Viene confermato che gli sforzi verranno concentrati sul portare la velocità di boot a 10 secondi prendendo ad esame un Dell Mini 10v con disco SSD. Sarà dunque ottimizzato il passaggio a upstart ultimato in karmic, sreadahead sarà rimpiazzato dal più performante ureadahead, e saranno fatte tante altre ottimizzazioni. Dal punto di vista dell’aspetto non ci saranno cambiamenti radicali, a parte la sostituzione di usplash con plymouth e armonizzazione del processo (Grub2 -> plymouth -> xsplash -> GDM -> xsplash -> desktop). Probabile ma non certo l’inserimento di un tema per Grub2. Certo invece è l’ampliamento delle schede che supportano il KMS.

As I found out today, trying to fix the “Now playing” information of rhythmbox, there is a patch. It provides a new last.fm plugin that uses the official last.fm client including correctly sent “Now playing”s.

Como ya sabéis, en Linux es muy fácil conservar las configuraciones de los programas, si vamos a una máquina nueva pero nos gustaría conservar la configuración de un programa llamado hola, bastará con copiar la carpeta /home/mi_usuario/.hola  El problema son los programas integrados en Gnome, como Rhythmbox, donde la configuración no queda en /home/mi_usuario/.rhythmbox, sino desperdigada por carpetas de Gnome.  Estos son los directorios que debéis copiar para conservar o duplicar la configuración de Rhythmbox ( ~/ es el /home/mi_usuario):

~/.cache/rhythmbox (se almacenan las carátulas y la configuración de jamendo y magnatune)
~/.gconf/apps/rhythmbox (configuración propiamente dicha de rhythmbox)
~/.local/share/rhythmbox (base de datos de canciones y listas de reproducción)

Debéis copiar los archivos con Rhythmbox cerrado, de otro modo se puede poner a buscar canciones al sobreescribir la configuración, sobreescribiéndoos la base de datos de canciones con nuevas búsquedas.

Para los que hayan actualizado su Ubuntu a la version 9.10 (Karmic Koala), puede que les haya ocurrido un error al intentar escuchar archivos mp3 con Rhythmbox; y esto les paso a muchos.

Lo que tienen que hacer es primero desintalar Rhythmbox:

sudo apt-get remove rhythmbox --purge

Despues debes hacer una actualizacion:

sudo apt-get update

Y por ultimo, volver a instalar Rhythmbox:

sudo apt-get install rhythmbox

Con estos codigos en la terminal deberian de hacer funcionar Rhythmbox a la perfeccion

Hello friends ,

Today I was just trying to know that is it possible to view the lyrics while playing a song in LINUX . As i had found plug-in for some music players in windows for the same purpose .

Well , then I tried Rhythmbox and found that It has already plug-in to view the lyrics of the currently playing song . But you have to enable it as it is disable by default .

To make it enable , first open the rhythmbox  , go to edit->plugins-> and then check the box of song lyrics . So now to view the lyrics go to view->song lyrics OR just use the short cut ctrl+L. But make sure you’ll have to take the net connection for viewing the lyrics .As most of the lyrics are fetched from leoslyrics.com .

To add song lyrics manually :

If all of the website failed to find lyric for your song(misstyped tag), you can check & change misstyped song title & artist name by right clicking on the selected song, select ‘Properties’. At ‘Basic’ tab, you can edit & change the song title, artist, album etc.(Tips : Exact song title & artist spelling can improve search result)

If the lyrics still unavailable & you want to add your own lyrics, select ‘Lyrics’ tab & click ‘Edit’, paste/write the lyrics & Save it…

So friends, don’t stop the music !!!
