The 10th May was the first day of National Achievers Congress 2013 in Singapore. I was there with other 30 Cambodian people. The first day was a great day where I got a lot of ideas from the speakers. The first day program finished at about 8:00 pm. Then I went for a dinner with my mentor, Mr. Bellum Tan, CEO of Rich Dad Asia. (I will write a separate article about what I have learned from him during I was there in Singapore.)

I got up very early morning of 11th May and I started my computer and I saw these words that I wrote for myself “Keep Learning. Keep Growing. Keep Sharing. And Keep Making A Difference” This is the reason why I write this article and the future articles to share with you some ideas and experiences I learned from Billionaires, Multi-Millionaires, and other world-class professional speakers and trainers.

Before I share their ideas and experiences I’d love to share with you of how I started working with Success Resources.

My Friend, Narin Keuk, and I during NAC Malaysia 2011 with Mr. Richard Tan, CEO of Success Resources

We started doing this work since May 2011 where I first joined the National Achievers Congress in Malaysia. I looked for the CEO of Success Resources, Mr. Richard Tan. I managed to meet him and told him that I wanted to do business with him. I did not have much money at that time. He gave me one idea during our meeting. He said “Many people want to start business and they say they do not have enough capital to start.” Then during he was on stage he gave another life changing principle to the audience. He told us about the story of how he started Success Resources from scratch with his business partners and the time where he invited some of the famous speakers to his seminars in Singapore.

He said “You do not need to know everything in order to start doing something”

For my case I needed to follow his principle and I also needed to covert it a little bit in order to reflect to my situation. I said to myself “I do not need to have everything in order to start doing something.”

Note: I started my business team with an office. I used my friend’s house to register my business in June 2011 after I met Mr. Richard Tan.

We first started with Success Resources as an Affiliate. Then we acted as a Distributor where we co-organized some international events in Cambodia with Success Resources. Finally, we have become the Official Partner of Success Resources for Cambodia territory in 2012.

During NAC Singapore 2013 I met Mr. Richard Tan and I told him that my life has changed because of him, his ideas and experience, and his willingness to accept us as a partner even we were starting from scratch. During his presentation for prospecting investors for his listing company he said that “We do not have Success Resources in Cambodia because we have Success Resources Sdn Bhd” Yes, PM Leadership is dealing with Success Resources Malaysia office or so called Success Resources Sdn Bhd.

OK. Now let me start to share with you what I learned from NAC Singapore 2013. Below is a list of the speakers. You may recognize some of them.

The feature speakers for this year’s NAC are Sir Richard Branson, Les Brown, and Gerry Robert plus other world-class speakers. During these three days there were Three BILLIONAIRES on stage. At first we did not know about that. I was surprised when I heard about them because they were not on the speaker list.

Who are they?

They are Takafumi Horie, from Japan, Zhang Zuolei, from China, and Sir Richard Branson, from England.

My purpose is to give you some of their ideas that I took note from each speaker during the three day period.

Let me start with the first speaker of NAC 2013 Singapore.

Takafmi Horie, Multi-Billion Dollar Internet Magnate, Japan.

A 33-year-old at the time founding and running his own very profitable internet services firm from Livedoor Co., He challenged conventional business practices in Japan and even ran for political office. He represented a new breed of businessmen who were willing to take on the establishment.

Takafumi Horie, First Speaker for NAC Singapore 2013

The speed of his rise to fame and fortune was matched by his downfall. In 2006, he was found to have fabricated earnings, convicted of fraud and jailed. He told us during NAC 2013 that he was realized from jail just five and half months ago. The place where he lost a lot of weight.

His story is very inspiring in a form of challenging ourselves to start doing something new to change the world. He is a kind of BIG-THINK person and the FUTURIST. His unique ability is “To Predict The Future” the market and the global trend, and he challenges him to do BIG-THINGS about it.

He said starting a business does not necessary need a lot of initial capital. What we need is a vision of the future, good friends, connections. He mentioned that good friends are asset for our business. With the power of internet and social media it is easier for us to find friends and connections.

I was surprised when he mentioned that he even bought a Bankrupt Company because of it had a good brand-name. This means that to him Branding is very important.

Note: If you were one of the delegates during NAC Singapore 2013 please help me to add any ideas and key points that I did not mentioned in the article.

In Glasgow, its safety in numbers.

Every Sunday morning I see the same lady in the newspaper shop buying lottery tickets. I’ve always wanted to ask her why she didn’t just send her money straight to Chancellor George Osborne, cutting out a chain of middle men and reducing the queuing time in the shop for the non-gambling section of the public.

I expect her reply would be something like, ‘I know my chances of winning are statistically not significantly different from zero, however the excitement of watching the draw and the possibility, however remote, of coming into sudden riches, beyond my wildest imagination, taps into a part of my mind that believes in dreams and miracles’.

Or, she might say, ‘I won a small amount once or twice, and it seems that intermittent reinforcement is one of the most powerful conditioning paradigms. I am simply powerless to resist’.

Or she might just say, ‘you cant take it with you, you tight git!’

Or, the killer retort: ‘why don’t you send the £2.50 you just wasted on the Sunday Times directly to Rupert Murdoch?’

Secretly, I ‘d love to have a go on the lottery but I cannot begin to understand how you go about it. People ask for things like, ‘two butterballs and a blingo’ and receive mysterious cards, some of which you can scratch. They seem happy with their purchases, even though they have exchanged real money for imaginary money.

It’s the same kind of cellophane packaged trinket as a cigarette packet, something that lights up the anticipation of reward pathways, if you still have them.

It strikes me that Lottery Behaviour illustrates the theory of ‘cognitive dissonance’. This means that people have sets of thoughts that conflict with each other, but find some way of reducing the disparity.

Gambling provides a bit of a buzz, but goes against the value of prudence. The mind works to justify the behaviour.

For example, the lottery is ‘for charity’. So it is OK to give money away. The lottery company will help you with this argument by not telling you how much of the take actually goes to charity (28%). And of the 28%, how much is left for the actual good cause, after the charities have employed their staff and paid their overheads?

What does it matter anyway; the money is all recycled within the economy, generating employment?

Apart from the fact that Camelot, who run the UK national lottery, is wholly owned by the Ontario Teachers Pension fund. Nevertheless, I have nothing against retired Canadian teachers and have no problem with sending them any spare money we have. Its a way of thanking them for providing the current generation of Canadians.

Lots of people can help us reduce our cognitive dissonance, and make a good profit out of doing so.

The workings of the National Lottery mix a few different processes. Which is the odd one out:

1. Giving to charity?

2. Tax?

3. Gambling?

4. Profit for shareholders?

5. Pensions?

Clue: one of them is supposed to be a vice.

One way of reducing the difference between ideas is to soften the ideas and make them less distinct in the first place. Since ideas are usually written in words, if the words themselves are made meaningless, the ideas will get soft and fluffy enough not to jar against each other in our pockets.

Its a win/ win scenario.

Managers are people who make a living out of Cognitive Dissonance. Part of their job is to distort and reduce the meaning of language.

If you are working anywhere in business or the public sector you are probably experiencing stress and frustration attributable to managers.

Take a typical scenario. You are sitting in a small hot room pretending to listen to someone giving a presentation. There is an ‘action plan’ to formulate. Something has to be written in 28 small boxes on a spreadsheet. People who are unable not to volunteer or avoid eye contact are given tasks to complete that will spoil their weekend. A pointless deadline is set for completion, leading directly to the affected person pulling a sickie that day.

Managers are people who like Audis, ties and bar charts, and I have no wish to offend any of them.

True, their claim to be a specific profession is undermined by the fact that the most successful managers of all have had no training whatsoever (e.g. Richard Branson, Alan Sugar, Steve Jobs…). The same cannot be said for eye surgeons or train drivers. Their main offence, however, has been to pervert the course of language. The question is, why do they do this?

Some people have suggested that there is something very sinister in the distortion of language. Gore Vidal, for instance, wrote:

‘As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate’

George Orwell wrote about war propaganda as far back as the 1930s. I am sure he would not be surprised at the ‘dodgy dossier’ and other more recent examples of war related spinning of information.

People are pretty reluctant to engage in homicide, so to wage a war, some massive dissonance has to be bridged. Orwell noticed that those people creating the most extreme propaganda tended to be those furthest from the combat zone.

The more foolish the military regime, the more the medals and uniforms get brighter and shinier.

The paranoid theory of management is that it is a propaganda machine to pretend to people that capitalism is fun, like a game, and that companies are benign.

My own theory is less conspiracy orientated and more based on seeing managers as a cult. Their world is highly ritualised. They are very fond of assembling in groups, presided over by a priest-like person.

Their prayer-books and rosary beads are laptops and projectors and their altar is the Powerpoint screen.

They speak to each other in jargon, but they do not fully understand the meaning, much as Catholics used to say prayers in Latin.

Though lots of commentators have recorded items of management-speak few have attempted to explain the phenomenon.

Like any species, managers’ main purpose is to increase in number and safeguard their various niches in the social fabric. Sometimes they are parasitic, but parasitism is only one of their methods of survival. They often prosper where there is chaos and decay, since they promise to create structure and harmony, mainly on diagrams.

A recent survey of 2000 managers, carried out by ILM, found that management jargon is used in two thirds of offices across Britain and nearly a quarter of workers considered it to be a pointless irritation.

The incredibly frightening interpretation of these findings is that one third of offices had not noticed they are jargon-infected. And over 75% of workers did not think it was an issue.

That’s like 75% of people not regarding bubonic plague as a serious health problem.

The same survey listed the most – hated phrases, such as Blue Sky Thinking, Going Forward, Touching Base, Close of Play, Drilling Down, Right Sizing things, etc.

Is such misuse of language a harmless eccentricity to make dull work seem more exciting, or does it have a more sinister purpose?.

Many professions have invented their own jargon, doctors being prime offenders. It’s much more fun to call a male person ‘a 46XY’ than ‘a man’, for instance.

The main difference is that professional jargon usually serves to sharpen a meaning, whereas management jargon does the opposite.

In IT for instance, we have become used to acronyms like RAM, LAN and WiFi, not to mention Killer Apps. In sport, we know exactly what a Try, or a Birdie means and we have strong views about LBW.

Engineers can tell us what a double over head cam does. In Costa, we have the Latte, the Cappuccino and the Flat White. All these terms are highly valid and reliable.

Compare the expression: ‘granularity’. Or ‘leverage’. Or ‘synergy’. Not valid or reliable at all.

Two explanations here: Managers are simply aping other professions’ use of technical terms in pretending they are a distinct set of experts.

Or, management speak is actually a way of reducing disharmony by abolishing conceptual distinctions.

This leads me to a surprising conclusion.

Management is not an exclusive club at all. Almost anyone can join in. No special qualifications are needed. Management speak is a free for all. Like Esperanto, its an attempt to unite all the professions and none. Managers can go from one type of company to another without having to know that much about what the company makes or provides.

Managers don’t need to be able to do maths or write proper sentences, let alone buy lottery tickets.

The management icon, the Venn diagram, celebrates the easy maths we can all do in year 6. Management is like bingo or ten pin bowling. Anyone can do it and they’re glad to have you.

Maybe we need managers to provide this kind of unity that masquerades as conflict. To portray the world of work as an exciting drama, or gladiatorial contest.

Just as we need politicians to give the illusion of political argument and lawyers to give the illusion of adversarial justice.

Managers may function as a kind of ecumenical movement to stop people fighting about whose God is best. The penalty is having to sand down the theological edges.

In serving to reduce cognitive dissonance, managers are probably helping us survive in a hopelessly conflicted world.

Perhaps the problem, again like politics and religion, is not the profession itself, but rather the type of people it attracts. The danger of abolishing the meaning of words is people taking liberties with the rule-book. Bullies and narcissists love to hide in these kinds of hierarchies.

If you feel that management culture is ruining your life, try re-framing your managers differently. An old – school CBT technique was disempowering a tormentor by imagining him wearing a tutu or sitting on the toilet.

Try imagining your manager as a pirate.

The empire once needed pirates to advance its cause. This resulted in one of the best PR exercises ever done, in effect re-badging cut-throats and thieves as swashbuckling heroes.

Your company might need pirates of a kind, if only to fiddle the government targets.

Your manager is just a pirate who likes to dress up.

Like Captain Shakespeare, (Robert De Niro) in Stardust, he’s probably got a penchant for ladies clothing.

Watch that movie if you haven’t already. Your manager won’t have seen it. Beware of pirate copies though.

*Weapons of Mass Distortion was a book by Brant Bozell III about a supposed liberal bias in the US media.

Editor: Alison Oakervee
Review: Monique Mulligan

Food. It’s a basic need for all humanity. For some, food is hard to come by; others have food in abundance. Physically, food sustains us, maintains us and boosts us; emotionally, food can strengthen bonds between families and friends. These truths are celebrated in a beautiful new cookbook, Share: The Cookbook That Celebrates our Common Humanity, which has been published in aid of Women for Women International.

I was fortunate to be sent a copy of this thoughtful and inspiring cookbook to review. I spent a while one Sunday afternoon with my sister-in-law, leafing through the pages; not only were we excited by the tempting recipes, but the message behind the book spoke to us. It’s one of those books – one designed to make you think about more than food as you turn the pages. Stories showing the inner strength and resourcefulness of women facing great hardship in war-torn countries – rape, assault, starvation, losing homes and family – are interwoven between a cornucopia of recipes. We wiped away tears and spoke of how blessed we were in our lives … in between noting recipes to try.

The book includes recipes from world-class chefs, celebrities, influential humanitarians and unsung heroes – such different people, but all committed to making a difference, however small. There are also recipes from some women whose lives have been improved by Women for Women International. A quick glance shows a focus on fresh ingredients and simple cooking, in which nurturing the soul is more important than fuss and bother. That’s how I like to cook – I want to cook things that people want to eat, not stare at like an artwork. What caught my eye? A hearty chicken soup (made it that night), an orange scented olive oil almond cake, baklava, pot-roasted silverside with shallots, roast pork fillet with five-spice plum sauce … and much more. Did I mention the gooey chocolate brownies?

A visually stunning cookbook with heart, I know it won’t be long before it takes on the appearance all well-used cookbooks have … a few splatters here, a smudge there. I can’t wait to get started. With a foreword by Meryl Streep, contributors include Paul McCartney, Trudie Styler, Annie Lennox and Richard Branson. All profits from sales of this book will go towards Women for Women International … so if you are looking for a cookbook, this is the one you must have!

Available from good bookstores. This copy was courtesy of Simon & Schuster.

SEPANG, Malaysia — British business magnate Richard Branson has lost his latest job because of orange juice.
The Virgin Group founder had his legs shaved, put on lipstick and squeezed into a red skirt to honor a bet by serving as a flight attendant Sunday on an AirAsia trip from Perth, Australia, to Malaysia.
But he earned a reprimand from AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes after he deliberately dumped a tray of orange juice on Fernandes’ lap.
Branson lost a bet to Fernandes in 2010 after they wagered that their Formula One racing teams would finish ahead of each other. Fernandes’ team landed two spots above Branson’s.
Fernandes gleefully declared after Sunday’s nearly six-hour flight on his budget airline that Branson’s skills as an attendant were “rubbish” and that he was being immediately fired.
A cheerful Branson, who was tasked with pouring beverages, serving meals and making flight announcements, posed with Fernandes and popped champagne after stepping out of the plane at Malaysia’s main low-cost carrier terminal south of Kuala Lumpur.
He said in brief remarks that he was “glad to have gotten the bet over with and (was) looking forward to getting back into my clothes.”
“I always wanted to be an air hostess, but it looks like I have to get back to normality,” Branson said. The flight helped raise money for an Australian foundation for hospitalized children.
Asked how Branson rated as an attendant, Fernandes quipped, “Out of 10, maybe one, for a bit of humor.”
“I wanted to kill him actually” for spilling the juice, the Malaysian told reporters.
“He looked at me, I said, `don’t you dare,’ and the next thing I know, he tipped the whole tray on me,” Fernandes added. “He and the girls mopped it up, but I was walking around the flight in my underwear for a while because I didn’t bring another pair of trousers.”

The highlight of my day, nay my week? Watching Richard Branson serve airline passengers dressed in full flight attendant drag.

Branson reportedly lost a bet to a “frenemy” and former employee, AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes. Two years after the deal was struck at the 2010 Formula One event in Abu Dhabi, Branson finally made good on his word. He served up drinks on a flight from Australia to Malaysia this weekend sporting lipstick, freshly shaved legs, and a fetching red skirt suit.

Branson tipped a full tray of orange juice on Fernandes, who declared that his skills as an attendant were “rubbish.” Branson was immediately fired after the six-hour flight.

The Virgin Group sent us a few additional photos taken on the flight if you’re in need of a good laugh.

On a more serious note, Branson is a prime example of a business leader taking an innovative approach to a more traditional industry.

We recently ran a contributed piece from an entrepreneur who was invited to spend three days with Branson in South Africa. One of the major lessons learned? “Don’t just experience fun and enjoy after 5 p.m.” As Branson makes clear with his publicity stunts, work should not be rigid and uninspiring.

It’s been a few years since VentureBeat’s editors dived into San Francisco Bay to celebrate a traffic milestone. Inspired by Sir Branson, any ideas for our next stunt?

All the talk of an alien invasion bothers me. Talk about the end of the world also bothers me. If any, or both, of these things should happen, I will be mightily annoyed. All my preparations and suffering since I came to this planet will have been in vain, and there is almost nothing I like less than having my time wasted for me.

While I am on the subject of wasting time: working to make money is about as interesting and rewarding as trying to fit a cactus in my ear. I know, trust me, I know there are a lot of stupid humans around, but not even I have been prepared for the staggering amount of stupidity some people are able to carry and use. At the place I work there is a radio. A radio is what humans use if the TV comes in the way of their income-generating activities.

Today I heard a male human on the radio saying that there are aliens on Planet Earth. At first I felt a slight tingling of something that may have been an upcoming nervous tic, but then he went on saying that the great big, government cover-up about aliens is that there are aliens, from Planet Venus, here on earth, right now. More so, there are humans on Venus. Not only that; there are human people living inside Venus. According to this male human, this is known, and kept secret by millions of humans.

Let me tell you a little bit about Venus. Venus is the second planet from the Sun. There. That’s all you need to know. So while I WISH most humans were at Venus, bathing in the sulphuric acid rain, whilst being crushed by an atmospheric pressure more than 90 times that of the earth and frying at temperatures that would make a pizza oven in Hell proud, that is one wish that hasn’t come true. Yet. I am thinking of building a commercial space shuttle with one way trips to Venus. I’m pretty sure Richard Branson will be interested in funding it.

British billionaire Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group Corporation, fulfilled his losing end of a bet on Sunday that he lost to Malaysian businessman Tony Fernández, owner of AirAsia. The two billionaires argued over whose Formula-1 racing team would beat the other at the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week, and you need words of encouragement to start your week off right.

This week’s words of motivation: Listen to the Words of a Woman–Embrace Different Opinions.

In this short 10 min video, we see and hear Halla Tomasdottir, a proud Iceland entrepreneur, speak on the 2008 financial crisis; and explaining why the “feminist approach” is best approach towards fixing an “already” broken economy at TEDWomen Talks. And in doing so, she not only manages to inspire, but throw witty “jabs” as to why women can and should be at the helm of the financial crisis.

Halla Tomasdottir is the co-founder of Audur Capital financial services, which has been instrumental in rebuilding Iceland’s economy since its collapse in 2008. Tomasdottir took Audur Capital, through the eye of the financial storm in Iceland, by applying traditional “feminine” values to the financial service sector: Risk Awareness; Straight Talking; Emotional Capital; Profit with Principles. My greatest takeaway from this video was when she said this:

“The whole thing about the female trend, is not about women being better than men; it is actually about women being different from men, bringing different values and different ways to the table”

If I am correct, diversity is great thing to have in your business portfolio. So why limit yourself to just “one” (male or female) idea when you can have “multiple” ideas at the decision making table? With Diversity–as Tomasdottir puts it–you get better decision-making and less herd behavior.

So for this week, listen to the words of a woman–and embrace different opinions. It is already set in stone that women have the best advice, so why deny it? In addition, with regards to different opinions in a decision making environment, there must also be mutual respect, from both sides of the table.

As much as I enjoy different opinions, if we are not careful with our words or do not our control tongues, it can lead disasters. So, when we practice diversification (or different opinions) in our portfolios, endeavors, work, etc, let’s remember to uphold mutual respect for one another before saying anything that we might regret.

I wanted to do something creative, fun and spontaneous today!! I have put together a great collage of videos & images to illustrate amazing messages that will inspire, make you think and hopefully spark something within. Images have power, so take the ride!

This first is an amazing ad done a few years ago by absolute vodka…take a look

The next is a neat video done by Dove that makes you take a closer look at how you see yourself…check it out.

The next video makes you think about how we affect one another…the responsibility to reach out to one another…to make a difference.

Sir Richard Branson might be “sir” and founder of the Virgin Airlines empire, but he’s not one to rely on all those piles of money to save him when he loses a bet. After wagering against AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes and coming out a loser, he donned the garb of a female flight attendant and got to work.

Dressed in the bright red AirAsia flight attendant uniform — which in his case included a short skirt, natch — with shaved legs clad in stockings, lipstick and his platinum locks flowing, Branson served on a flight from Perth, Australia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, reports UPI.

“Dude Looks Like a Lady” by Aerosmith greeted Branson as he boarded the plane, of course.

The two super rich magnates had bet that their Formula One racing teams would beat each other during the debut of the 2010 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi back in 2010, and it was finally time for the loser Branson to pony up and meet his end of the deal.

Lest you think this is just a couple of billionaires being silly on each other’s airlines, the stunt was also a fundraiser for an Australian charity.

“I’m a great believer in having fun, throwing yourself into everything you do,” Branson said. “If you lose a bet you’ve got to honor that bet and if you can raise lots of money for charity, which we’ve done today, so much the better.”

AirAsia donated $100 from each ticket sold on the 300-passenger flight to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, and bidders also competed before the flight for the chance to shave Branson’s legs. That’s at least going to make for a great cocktail party story, especially if the high bidder kept the razor.

I read 2 awesome article last week, here are the snippets

[Outlook Business]
Many business experts use “war” as a metaphor for the strategies needed to compete in a global economy. The evidence is clear that the world is tired of war. When the purpose of competition is understood: to bring out the best, to produce excellence, to create better products and services, it brings to light a distinction worthy of our deepest reflection — the desire to win versus the desire to destroy. We begin to understand that without our competitors we would have no incentive to raise our standards and reach our potential.

[Richard Branson's Virgin Blog]
When I made a bet two and a half years ago with Tony Fernandes about which of our Formula One teams would finish higher, we agreed whoever lost would dress as cabin crew on the other’s airline. Our first attempt was foiled by my skiing accident. The second was thwarted by the royal wedding. The third when our house burnt down on Necker. Well, a bet is a bet – so it was a pleasure to finally honour the bet and join the team in my beautiful new uniform on a flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur.

…
…
Tony used to work for Virgin and it’s brilliant to see how he has built a thriving brand of his own.

He might be one of the most powerful men in the world, but Sir Richard Branson was the brunt of a thousand jokes on Saturday night as he donned a skirt and a full face of make-up on a flight to Malaysia.

The billionaire entrepreneur swapped his boxer shorts for a pair of stockings after losing a Grand Prix bet with AirAsia chief executive Tony Fernandez two years ago. The Virgin boss – who even shaved his legs for the flight – served drinks and pledged to clean the toilets on the special flight – all while sporting the red AirAsia uniform, which included a skirt suit and crisp white shirt.

Pulling his blonde locks back into clips, Branson completed his fresh new look with a sweep of red lipstick and a fetching set of false eyelashes. Putting on a brave face, the 62-year-old finally made good on the bet that he lost two years ago – after being too busy to see it through any earlier.
