Hello-Hello, and Happy Tuesday!

It is more than a little frenzied here in the Corner Condo at Princess InterGalactic HQ, so we jump right in today, there is big news about Le Boutique Targèt.  Our favorite reasonably-priced store (discount store just sounds so…so dreary, don’t you think?) has announced two new designer collaborations: the next limited-edition designer for a GO International® capsule collection will be Zac Posen, and a longer-term, larger partnership with Liberty of London.

The Zac Posen for Target collection will be available in stores and online April 25th of next year through May 30th.  Mr. Posen’s line for Target is in addition to his new lower-priced line, Z Spoke, this collection will be sold exclusively at Saks. Below, a few looks from that group, part of this Women’s Wear Daily story:

The story by Jessica Iredale continues:

“Z Spoke comes at a time when the market has shifted and many of Posen’s fellow young designers — Doo-Ri Chung, Thakoon Panichgul and Richard Chai among them — have recently launched lower-priced collections. … Posen’s new line will sit on Saks’ fourth floor… alongside Tory Burch, Elie Tahari, M Missoni and Ralph Lauren Blue Label.”

Price points for the Z Spoke pieces will start at $78 for a cotton tee. BTW, all Z Spoke photos are by Kyle Ericksen at WWD.

Prices for Mr. Posen’s Target collection haven’t yet been announced, but prices for other GO International lines have been roughly between $14.99 – $149.99.  While not crazy about most of the Zac Posen Z Spoke pieces seen above, we are excited about his Target line.

And then there is the even bigger news about the Boutique and Liberty of London partnering up, bigger in part because it will include not only Women’s, Men’s, & Children’s apparel and a Home Collection, but also because of the Liberty heritage.

The luxury retailer is best known for colorful prints but also creates many other products, including their own lines of leather goods, home goods like towels and bath items, and more.

Today’s WWD story has more on the partnership.

“Target did not discuss specifics of the home collection. However, products could be similar to the pillows, cosmetics bags, lamp shades and notebooks in iconic prints found on the Liberty site. Timed to coincide with the spring season, Liberty of London for Target also will feature storage and organization and garden products.”

Liberty has a history of successful partnerships across a broad and diverse spectrum, one of their current collections is with Ronnie Wood.

The company’s CEO understands that not everyone is familiar with Target, especially on the far side of the pond; here is more from the story:

“Despite the exposure, collaborating with Target wasn’t an easy decision for Liberty to make. “People outside the U.S. don’t really know how big Target is and what it means,” de la Bourdonnaye said. …and I had to explain to our shareholders just how important this collaboration could be.”

Perhaps they will create some cute melamine pieces like these currently on the retailer’s website.

But we’ll also settle for a scarf or two in the collection!

Barney’s the Books does an amazing job with editorial shots. Although it’s not a magazine, their artistic work is magazine worthy.

Remember, don’t be turned off/discouraged when you see shots like these where you feel that you can’t pull off the look. This is just one person/stylists point of view and there are so many other ways to wear different pieces. Thats the best thing about fashion.. options! Today’s look definitely brings back summer memories and today’s weather was very much like fall back home.

The plaid jacket, the pants, and the boots are spot on for the weather right now, and I definitely need a coat for autumn/winter. I had the opportunity to see these pieces at the studio this summer, and they look and feel great. They are priced at designer levels and RChai is available at Barneys, Bergdorfs and Saks. Gilt Man is a solid option for shopping for designer clothes if you have the money, but there are great alternatives that I will put together once midterms and papers are over. Stay warm!

Plaids are all the rage this fall and we’re totally lovin’ the muted palettes of earthy brown, green, grey and blue!

Crazy weather we’ve been having around here.  The evening can start out blistering hot, then in a couple of hours, it’s freezing cold.  This is how I handled it last night.

I started out with a new dress I picked up at Forever 21.  F21 has been doing a great job with providing really nice garments lately.  When I first saw this dress, I thought it would look so much nicer if it wasn’t trying so hard.  You see, this dress originally came with a gaudy belt.  So I removed it.  I also wear a rhinestone necklace from Target as a bracelet and a new bracelet from Polytima.  The shoes are Ralph Lauren and since this is not the first time they’ve appeared on my blog, closeups can be found elsewhere, if you want to look around.

After a couple of hours, as I predicted, it turned very cold.  I was so glad I brought a jacket…

Maybe not the best choice for the dress (but it was something I’ve been wanting to wear), I brought along this Richard Chai shearling I bought last fall.  This is the first time I’ve worn it and it won’t be the last.    I wanted to wear it sooner, but somehow, didn’t manage to do that.  It’s hard to tell in my picture, but it’s a rich, dark, forest green.

And finally, I want to show you my new Polytima bracelet.  I wasn’t optimistic when I ordered it because I have freakishly small wrists, but it turns out that this bracelet is small enough to fit me.  The bracelet reminds me a little of the Tom Binns “faux real” bracelets that I wanted so badly.  I wasn’t able to get any of the Binns bracelets because they ran so large (and the metal didn’t seem sturdy enough to bend).  I tried the Tom Binns ones on at Last Call about a year ago and they fell right off.  The sales guy helping me put them on and wore them while I was there.  He looked very lovely in them.

There are not many things more exciting to me than Fashion Week.  So much fashion packed into so little time! It’s mind-blowing! I know its hard to think of what next spring’s trends will be when we are just getting into fall, but I there are actually a number of looks that are popular now, for the fall, and into the spring, so you can reuse pieces season to season!  And with everyone seemingly on a budget, its always nice to know the clothes you buy now can last you atleast another year, if not longer!

Here are some trends that are popular now for fall, that I also saw on the runways for spring!

Trend: Cute Minis

Believe it or not, mini dresses are in for the fall.  This works especially where we are, since it never really gets THAT cold.  Wear them with tights and layer under cardigans, jackets or coats.  Take those layers off for the spring and voila! Get a mini you can wear now and later!  They were all over the runways.  Here are some of my favorites: (Hold your mouse over the picture to see the designer) 

Trend: Grecian Inspired Draping

Mini’s not your thing? Try this look, it is flattering on all types (as seperates or a dress!) and was just as popular on the runway! 

Trend: Metallics

Don’t be afraid of the shimmer! There are many different options here on how to style it and not over do it! 

Trend: Sequins & Glitter

I wasn’t sure if this trend was going to last, but alas, I was wrong!  With the right pieces it can be fun!

Trend: Jumpsuits/Rompers

This is a trend that I know surprised a lot of people with it’s comeback, but  it looks like it’ll be here for a little while longer atleast!

Trend: Harem Pants

These are also here to stay, which makes me happy because they are so comfortable! and who doesn’t love that?

Trend: Asymmetric Dresses

Whether they are asymmetric in construction or fabric, this style dress is in for the fall and beyond!

Trend: Ruffles & Bows

These little details can make you feel so flirty and romantic.  You can wear them so many ways; from just one bowtie to a whole dress of ruffles.  And they look great in the workplace, love that!

The next couple categories are staple pieces that we can wear practically year-round, and they will never go out of style! These were the most popular on the runways:

Staple: Cool Jackets

This is a great time to think about buying jackets, because it is just beginning to cool off.  Because of our beachy atmosphere, any of these jackets can be worn for spring or fall. 

Staple: Cute Shorts

We can’t deny we love shorts here.  On the runways I’m seeing some super-cute ones though!  And I’m not talking about really short, up-the-butt shorts, but more like pleated, feminine, and flowy.  These are perfect to pair with tights for fall!

Staple: Maxi Dress

This is another beachy classic that we can wear year-round.  Wear them under cardigans or jackets when the weather gets cool.  There were actually way more on the runway, these are just my favorites!

Staple: White Suit

Since the rule, “no white after labor day,” apparently no longer applies, grab yourself one of these.  If you don’t feel comfortable in an all white outfit when its not summer, wear the pieces seperately with more season-appropriate layers.

I also saw a few styling trends on the runways that are always under the radar and never go out of style.

Styling Trend: Strong vs. Feminine

This a great way to balance any outfit.  Wearing a strong, structured jacket or shoes with a feminie dress or skirt is a great way to find the median between being girly and edgy.  When it gets cooler, substitute the jacket for a chunky sweater and it’ll have the same effect.

Styling Trend: Mixing Patterns

This is one of my favorites!  It can be tricky, though, to find the patterns and colors that work together without looking like you got dressed in the dark.  Mixing bold colors could be easier and has the same essence.  Take these as inspiration:

Looking ahead to Spring, there were a few new trends on the runway.  Just thought you might want to keep these in mind:

New Trend: Satin & Silk Like Fabrics

Surprisingly, this was all over the runway!  These fabrics could definately be worn for fall here, too.

New Trend: Variation on the Classic Shift

I saw a bunch of different looks that took the classic shift dress shape and added some sort of twist.  Whether it be extra detailing, a little bit more sleeve, a lower neckline, a different hemline, or a more relaxed fit.  It’s a good way to update one of your staples.

Finally, I just wanted to share with you some of my personal favorites from New York Fashion Week.  In these I can’t really tell what exactly is going on, or how the designer exactly constructed the pieces,  but I like it : )

And these are just so freaking cute I would seriously wear them straigh off the runway! (wouldn’t that be nice??!)

This is short and sweet because Men generally get the shaft in fashion. The heavy theme is still trending toward black and white colors with much less interesting patterns. Plaid will still be the prevailing pattern out there and the materials are more classic. Keeping to jeans and cottons mostly with a few blingy pieces here. High tops/boots and suspenders are going to keep coming up. Here are a few highlights again taken entirely from www.wwd.com as I cruise through their comprehensive coverage of runway shows ending last week.

New York Fashion week is finally over. London is now calling. After a week of approximately 80 designers’ shows under the tent and more around NYC, fashion week drawn models, buyers, stylists, editors and medias from all over the world. All had the exclusive privilege to view in avant première what we will all be wearing for spring 2010. And the big question is what is the expected trend for next spring?

Creative/ art craft: Sliced, architectural, deconstructed and ripped  at Michael Kors, ethnic at Rodarte, paper cut project at Marchesa, and sliced at Jill Stuart .  A strong creativity on the runway from deconstructed looks to using unusual fabrics treatment and woven effect at Carolina Herrera, Ralph Rucci and DFV. Designers also used a lot of deconstructed bandages inspired dresses at Yigal Azrouel and Narciso Rodriguez.

Flower Power: After Woodstock 40’s anniversary this year, the runway also marked a return to the free sprit of the 60’s with a combination of Tie Dye, patchwork denim, braiding and floral prints. A bit bohemian chic at Anna Sui,  colorful layers at Vivienne Tam, rope weave at Carolina Herrera and totally psychedelic prints at Dvf. A return to a total hippie boho chic style!

Feminine romance: Soft Grecian long maxi dress. Lightness with details such as ruffles, flounces, draping and floral prints.

Japonesque: An absolute Japanese and Geisha cabaret inspiration for Marc Jacobs. Soft Japanese baskets woven at Carolina Herrera. A Japanese sands garden for Ports 1961, with Japanese inspired constructed pieces from origami, tie-dye harem pants and kimonos in a smooth nude and coral palette developed by Japanese print-maker Ritsuko Hiraji for spring 2010.

Metallic: Disco fever on the runway for designer Jill Stuart, Derek Lam, Dvf, Michael Kors, 3.1 Phillip Lim sparkled the runway.  A total bling bling gold trend !

Feathers: Feathers for a total fantasy look, a bit carnival at Chris Benz, feathered dress at Adam, Jason Wu and Ralph Rucci for a fun night out.

Tones: Neutral tones for a clean and elegant aesthetic at DKNY, Marc Jacobs, Behnaz Sarafpour and Christian Siriano. A sophisticated combination of light colors from pink champagne, dried herbs, eucalyptus with touch of bright red tomato, amparo electric blues and sunny yellows .

Casual leisure, Lots of leisure youthful suits and jumpsuit at Adam, Chris Benz, Richard Chai and 3.1 Phillip Lim. A total cool attitude for a soft modern effortless look.

Richard Chai presented his first ever men’s collection: The results are impressive. Known for his women’s line, this was a calculated risk. But, his collection of baggy pants, and layered shorts, offered a desperately needed creative spark, to NY Fashion Week. The baggy trousers he showed could easily become a signature look for 2010. They are so natural, that it begs the question why is everyone running around in toothpick trousers, and jeans.

Richard Chai’s men’s collection is contemporary: The layering is interesting. His experience in women’s clothing shows. Layering is something left to women in fashion. Men can layer too. Men’s clothes are very one-dimensional in this aspect. Everything is worn separate. Sport jacket, trousers, shoes. Its like being in prison. Lock down at 5, don’t forget your uniform. Layering adds dimension to your clothes, it allows you to have more options in terms of your personal style. Look at the cuts of his clothes. He hand stitches his clothing, uses bias tapes, and French seams (no lining, finished clean professional edges). His technique is superior on many levels, and is more European in this sense. The clothes are minimalist. Simple clean silhouettes, no frivolous or superfluous use of material. Its very understated, and for that reason he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. Technique is very important. It is the difference between being a stylist and a designer.

Richard Chai clothes are accessible, and wearable: He was quoted by Meenal Misty in a fashion article earlier in the year, in which he states…”it’s not about dumbing things down…you can’t be safe”.. continuing he says… “safe no..smart yes”. Great quote. It speaks directly about his vision as a designer. It is an argument about how, you can be successful and not compromise. He recently collaborated with Target in 2008; this was very successful. The clothes were a big hit , and very profitable. In another article in Closet Therapy in the comments section, someone makes the point about this whole high-end designer and retail collaborations going on today. The question is… “the clothes look great, but how many washes will they last”. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has bought these clothes for their opinion. I mean that is what we are talking about , since it isn’t possible to make clothes for Target , I mean complete outfits for under $90.00 , with hand stitching etc…that have the same quality and durability. How do you convince people that it costs money to make good quality clothes. A lot of people are living in a fantasy world, where there are no labor costs, (little elves come in the middle of the night to make these clothes). People today want something for nothing, and there is no convincing them. High quality silk, and wool, are expensive, so is good quality cotton. What is going to happen, when these collaborations are the only way to buy “designer” clothes, and they drive all higher end clothing and designers out of business. This is already happening.

totally refreshing

style

I spent a good couple of hours tormenting myself earlier when I came across these babys. I’m going through a bit of a high top trainer stage at the moment, I love how bouncy  my walk is in them. They are the ultimate comfort. So when I heard about the collaboration that Richard Chai has done with Keds, I had a little heartattack. They were spotted on the catwalk at the Keds men’s show at New York Fashion Week, when the designer for the collection suggested using some funky sneakers in the show, Keds suggested that Richard Chai design them (he helped launch the Marc by Marc Jacobs range). They were only intended to be used in the show, but lucky for us, they decided to release them! Fingers crossed they’ll be hitting stores in early 2010, but I’m itching to get them now. Why do you tease me so, Mr Tinterwebz?! Picture time.

Look at the yummy colours and fabrics! I can see the comfort from here.

I think I definitely prefer the high-tops to the low-tops. And my grey fetish is really going to get the best of me when these are released.
