Before I had read much about the Doors and the making of their records, etc., I was convinced that Morrison and the other Doors had planned LA Woman as their swansong.   It almost seemed as if both Morrison and the band knew that this was Morrison and the band’s final fling together, and soon their beloved band/ring leader would be gone for good.  There are just too many hints to Jim’s grand unraveling, and even a sense that he was on his way to Africa.  Like I said, it almost seemed as if he and the band were conspiring together and leaving some clues here and there on the last record.

The album is a blues record disguised as a rock and roll album.  While only half of the ten songs are pure blues, almost all of the other songs are based on a blues progression of sorts.  For instance, Riders on the Storm and Love Her Madly use a blues progression and incorporates jazz elements (it is not that Bo Diddley covers the latter song on Stoned Immaculate); Hyacinth House repeats the first line of each verse twice as per the blues; even LA Woman, for all its jazz-inspired elements has Morrison sounding like an old blues master.  All of this is not so strange as the Doors, like so many of the rock artists in the sixties, had been heavily influenced by African-American music.  But even more than this, the Doors had been planning to do a blues album, and Morrison apparently didn’t want to do anything but blues at that point.  Already on the Doors record prior to this one, Morrison Hotel, for which Morrison wrote most of the lyrics and the music, one can detect a movement toward the blues; the record ends with “Maggie M’gill,” a blues number which ends with Morrison singing:

I’m an old blues man

And I think that you understand

I’ve been singing the blues

Ever since the world began

Now it hardly needs saying that the blues was brought to this country by the slaves who were inhumanly taken from their homes in Africa.  Morrison knew this and probably thought of Africa as not only the birthplace of the blues, but of humanity.  Some early indications of his thinking include the enigmatic line at the end of “Wild Child” (on the Soft Parade) in which Morrison says, “Remember When We Were in Africa?”  This one sentence does as much for the Morrison mythology as that other famous spoken line, “I am the Lizard King, I can do anything” at the end of “Not to Touch the Earth” (part of “Celebration of the Lizard” on Absolutely Live).  The line about Africa now only fuels the fire of those who want to believe that Morrison somehow escaped death and stardom and is now living somewhere on that continent.

There are some who don’t make so much of the “Remember when we were in Africa?” line. Linda Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Morrocan immigrants, says that the song “Wild Child” was based on a poem that Jim had written for her and that when asked about the line at the end, Jim apparently told her that he was referring not to our collective human origins (the Leakeys), but much more narrowly to some pictures of Ashcroft’s North African family that she had shown Morrison.  But if Morrison really said this, it seems to me that must have been up to his old trickster self.  No doubt the line also referred to the time spent looking at the pictures with Ashcroft, but it seems highly unlikely that Morrison was not also referring to our “wild,” primitive origins.  And for that matter, “Wild Child” is not just about Ashcroft — it is far more archetypal than that, both of the sixties Flower Child and of the divine Dionysian ecstatic child of the forest, screaming wild.

Morrison revisits the Africa theme on the last album, both implicitly (by singing the blues like an old master) and explicitly on a fascinatingly beautiful partly spoken-word blues, The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat).  The song gives many indications that Morrison was deeply longing for an end to stardom and a final release into that pure land of light and bliss that Africa symbolized:

The negroes in the forest, brightly feathered

And they are saying, forget the night

Come live with us in forests of azure

Out here on the perimeter there are no stars

Out here we is stoned, immaculate

The song is also a fond and touching farewell to his friends, the other three Doors (as well as his other close friends, no doubt):

I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft

We have built pyramids in honor of our escaping.

Pyramids, indeed.  If you will bear with this exegesis, it is not only Morrison who is escaping, it is his friends, the other Doors, and whoever else cares to come along.  But it is a thin raft – not too many people will follow:

But you’ll never follow me

From where are they escaping?  America, which is Egypt — the biblical House of Bondage:

This is the land where the pharaohs died

Whither are they headed?   Down South, to Africa proper:

Wow, I’m sick of doubt

Live in the light of certain

South

He went down south and crossed the border

left the chaos and disorder

back there over his shoulder

If Egypt stands for America, Africa is thus also Latin America (L’America), a symbol of freedom (especially in the sixties, where hippies fled to escape the law – listen to “Hey Joe”).  But Morrison isn’t only talking about escaping from the American Dream, he is talking about the death of what he calls the “Western Dream” of freedom and progress:

I’ll tell you this…

No eternal reward will forgive us now

For wasting the dawn

As I mentioned, “The WASP” is only the most explicit expression of Morrison’s longing to get “Back to Africa.”  In fact, from the very first song, “The Changeling,” a hard-driving, blues-inspired rant which has Morrison grunting and screaming as good as James Brown, Morrison begins to reveal his personal “End Time” mythology, telling us he’s about to bust out and get loose (he used the blues format to tell us he had to “rock ‘n’ roll”):

I live uptown

I live downtown

I live all around

I had money

I had none

I had money

I had none

But I never been so broke

that I couldn’t leave town

I’m a changeling

See me change

The song could mean a lot of things.  One interpretation that I would suggest is that Morrison is saying he is free — he is not bound by money or by conventional societal stratification or success — and thus he can change at will.  But money in particular seems to have been for him the epitome of all that was antithetical to freedom and change, and being free desire for money meant freeing the soul:

I want to tell you people about something I know –

Money beats soul every time, come on!

He’d been “broken” to a certain degree by a system which values money (and stardom and power) over “soul,” but in “The Changeling” he is declaring that he’s not completely broke and can get out when the time comes.  And the time had come.  The song ends with Morrison somewhat eerily chanting:

I’m leaving town

On a midnight train

Gonna see me change

Change, Change, Chaaaange!

According to conventional standards, Morrison’s contempt for wealth and power seem inane if not crazy, but again, there was a method to his madness:

I am not mad

I am interested in freedom

In another song on the first side of the album, “Been Down So Long,” which is more of a pure blues, Morrison again sings that it’s time to get up and get away:

I been down so goddamn long

That it feels like up to me

I been down so very damn long

That it feels like up to me

Why don’t one of you people

Come here and set me free?

One might say that Morrison wrote the last line with his audience in mind, still thinking that he and the other Doors would perform their new record live (and in fact they did, but only two shows).   On the other hand, it could be argued that the fact that the song’s title is taken from that of Richard Farina’s first and only novel, he having died in a motorcycle crash two days after it was published at the age of 3??, is another hint that Morrison was also headed in the same direction.  In any case, I think the song gives more indication that Morrison was longing for a change.

Another song on the first side with much clearer intent is Hyacinth House.

On the first album, The Doors, Morrison had sung:

As I noted, Morrison had mentioned to some of his friends that he was going to split L.A. and go live in Africa incognito.  In order to pull it off he was going to change his name and he came up with Mr. Mojo Risin’ as a perfect anagram for “Jim Morrison.”  In the middle of the title track of “L.A. Woman” Morrison reveals his new alias:

[also sounds like “ridin’” and “writin’]

I think some people fail to see the irony in this, as with many of Jim’s poems and lyrics.  If he really was serious about using “Mr. Mojo Risin’” as an alias, would he really be so foolish as to tell the world about it?  It seems to me he was just having fun, adding yet another element to his personal mythology, laughing at the people who were eating it up, salt-less.

On the other hand, how prophetic this all was!  For the three decades since his passing on, Morrison has certainly kept on risin’, both literally (all of the Morrison sightings, etc.) and figuratively in the minds and hearts of those who attentively listen to the Doors music and read the vast and growing literature on the band.  Morrison sang “Cancel my subscription to the Resurrection,” but there appear to be many out there (including myself) who haven’t cancelled their’s.

A veces nos preguntamos como sería la vida sin Internet para  sorprendernos de cuanto hemos cambiamos después de la experiencia de navegar en la Web. Esa misma sorpresa la sienten los que se atrevieron a tomar clases de surfing y disfrutaron por primera vez de “Surfear” en el equilibrio existente entre la ola, la tabla, la velocidad y el cuerpo.

Luego de esta primera experiencia el océano no vuelve a ser el océano que conocimos y una compenetración con universo permea todo el resto de las cosas que conforman la vida.

Es definitivamente algo experiencial y como tal solo puede explicarse a través de la experiencia misma, las palabras poco se acercan a las sensaciones que el surfing provoca en cada fibra del cuerpo. Esta experiencia al igual que la mayoría de las cosas fabulosas que nos da la vida solo depende de nuestra decisión.

Todavía hay unas pocas personas que se resisten a tomar la decisión de entrar al mundo de la web pero su actitud no consigue más que algunas sonrisas  piadosas del espíritu cuakero que todos tenemos dentro; mientras seguimos disfrutamos las “subidas desde el móvil” desde el blackberry o el ipohone en facebook y tuitter. Esa misma sonrisa aparece en mi rostro cuando escucho el conocido “Eso no es para mi” en relación al surfing o al kitesurfing.

Los argumentos son muchos y el hecho solo uno: la vida cambia igualque los vasos comunicantes que nos unen a ella y a su expresión máxima: La naturaleza.

Así que la próxima vez que el gusanito del atrevimiento te pique ven un fin de semana y tomate unas lecciones de surfing o kitesurfing y regálate una nueva perspectiva

Apenas jueves y playa Encuentro esta como si nada. No parece prefigurarse un mal tiempo por ningún lado, sólo las olas nos hablaban de los vientos de Bill quien nos entrega el segundo Swell* de la temporada de huracanes.

Muchas palabras pueden escribirse pero la sensación es la novia coqueta del sufer y solo el que se atreve se la gana.

Para mañana nos espera un día épico según las predicciones, lo seguro es que estaremos ahí para constatar si las predicciones de los satélites se compaginan con los deseos lúdicos de la naturaleza

*En el contexto de los lagos, océanos y mares el swell es la combinación del tamaño de ola, su longitud y frecuencia, cuando hay swell significa que esas variantes son significativas.

Nada mejor para escuchar en un día de lluvia ,una música genial , el nombre de la canción significa en castellano “Jinetes en la tormenta” algo sugerente , pero que tiene un contenido que sería necesario ver escrito para entender , al parecer letra y música no tienen una relación demasiado estrecha ; igualmente la reconstrucción sonora de una tormenta y de la lluvia es excelente , espero que les guste .

El ayuntamiento de Barakaldo en colaboración con Rock Star traen grupos (con cache poco bajo supongo)  que no llenan la sala, por lo que regalan entradas y ni así. El caso es que solemos ir los colegas ya que es by the face y siempre apetece escuchar cosas nuevas. La última fue el jueves pasado con los “Riders on the storm”. Aunque ya los vi en el último Bilbao BBK Live, pues fui, al menos a ver si prestaba más atención que en el festi. Pero me quedé muy loco: antes de nada, en las fotos promocionales aparecen 5 tios:

Bien, pues en el escenario había sólo cuatro, y a los dos que les vi la cara no eran ninguno de estos. Yo pensaba: pues habra cambio de grupo, pero no, porque tocaban el repertorio de “The Doors” (grupo al que homenajean). Y luego la música, muy extraña para mi gusto, super envolvente, años 60-70 pero con una atmósfera muy rara. Muy raro todo.

Lo que más me  fastidia es enterarme el sábado que Stanley Jordan, un genio del Jazz que me mola un huevo, actuaba en Vitoria el mismo sábado, y con los exámenes pase de ir, pero el tema es que el jueves estuvo en Bilbo (y yo en el citado concierto), que bajonazo!.  Espero que vuelva, y yo le vea, porque hace cosas como éstas:

Utiliza la técnica del tapping pero todo el rato y con las dos manos, el video lo dice todo. Poneos más, hay hasta con piano y guitarra a la vez.  A ver si algún día hablo a fondo de él.

De to siste dagene har vært en eneste lang vandring nedover memory lane. Det begynte med når jeg for to dager siden fant det helt STRÅLENDE spillet Midtown Madness 2. Spillet kjøpte jeg i Narvik for gudene vet hvor mange år siden, og jeg husker at jeg pleide å spille det når jeg bodde på Hunstad hvilket betyr en gang før 2000. Elendig grafikk til tross, minnene strømmer på i det jeg cruiser nedover Golden Gate Bridge og uskyldige forbipasserende skriker og hyler i det de ser bilen min, ennå jeg kjører i noe jeg vil tro er 30 km/t. Ikke det mest gjennomførte spillet i verden på noen måte, men herregud så høyt jeg elsker det.

Minnene fortsatte å strømme på i det jeg fikk ordnet meg konto på Spotify i går. Jeg gikk ikke fullt så mange år tilbake, faktisk bare 3. Året er altså 2006. Det er sommer og jeg og Christine så alt for mye på One Tree Hill, mens vi hørte ALT for mye på Jack’s Mannequin. Og det var akkurat de jeg hørte på i går. Når sangene The Mixed Tape, La La Lie og Dark Blue kunne jeg sverge på at sola kikket fram og hele sommeren kom tilbake til meg!

Også nå, når jeg satte meg ned for å spille Need For Speed: Underground 2. Dette spillet ER ungdomstiden min! Jeg praktisk talt bodde på rommet til broren min mens han var på jobb for å spille dette spillet. Nå har jeg skaffet meg det til PC. Det er ikke på langt nær så digg som på x-box, men jeg har ingen x-box og må nøye meg med dataen. Hvordan kan man IKKE bli i godt humør av Snoop Doggs versjon av Riders on the storm?

While in Vietnam in 1972, my ship’s (www.usssmullinnix.org) song was The Door’s (http://www.thedoors.com/) “Riders On The Storm”. As we would finish refueling or reloading ammo, we split at flank speed, hoist our “Virginia Is For Lovers” Flag (http://www.thevastore.com/), and Riders On The Storm blaring from the 1MC. It would make your hair stand up on end.

I would imagine Captain Phillips was humming “Freebird” (http://lynyrdskynyrdhistory.com/) to himself.

Snoop Dogg feat. Jim Morrison – Riders on the storm slideshow

Mit dem heutigen Artikel zum Tod von Doors-Frontmann Jim Morrison und den zahllosen Mysterien rund um sein verfrühtes Ableben (nicht zu vergessen die faszinierende Möglichkeit, daß er noch leben könnte!) nähern wir uns sozusagen der Königsklasse der Verschwörungstheorien; sowas muß man ja geniessen, zelebrieren wie einen Schluck zart-rauchigen, alten Whisky.

James Douglas Morrison aka The Lizard King aka Mr. Mojo Risin’ soll ja bekanntlich am 3. Juli 1971 im Alter von nur 27 Jahren in Paris an Herzversagen gestorben sein; er hatte sich eine Auszeit von seiner Rolle als Popstar genommen und befand sich mit seiner Freundin Pamela Courson seit März des Jahres in der französischen Hauptstadt. Die “offizielle” Version, nach der Morrison in der Nacht seines Todes Heroin genommen haben soll, sich ein Bad einliess und irgendwann in den Morgenstunden unbemerkt von der schlafenden Courson in der Badewanne mehr oder weniger friedlich aus dem Leben schied, ist ein Märchen, welches seit den 1970er-Jahren von den meisten Journalisten, Autoren und Fans in aller Welt vertrauensselig nacherzählt wird. Gleichzeitig erweitern die zahllosen Ungereimtheiten der Story diese zu einem Feld voll interessanter Theorien, über die nachzudenken/nachzuforschen wirklich allergrösste Muße bereitet.

Spekulieren kann man zum Beispiel schon mal bestens über den wahren Grund von Morrisons Abreise nach Paris- während die meisten Biographen uns weismachen wollen, daß der Doors-Sänger ausgebrannt war und in Frankreich wieder zu sich selbst kommen wollte, mag das (betrachtet man den furchterregenden Alkohol- und Drogenkonsum Morrisons zu dieser Zeit) zwar stimmen, der wahre Grund für seinen hastigen Aufbruch könnte aber auch ein anderer gewesen sein.

In einem 2004 erschienen Artikel im renommierten Rockmagazin “Rolling Stone” wird ein anonym bleiben wollender Zeuge zitiert, dem der Doors-Anwalt Max Fink (der Morrison 1969 vor Gericht wegen des Vorwurfs obszöner Gesten während eines Konzerts in Miami verteidigte) beim Golfspiel anvertraute, er habe via Beverly Hills- Staranwalt Mickey Rudin eine Warnung für den Doors-Sänger erhalten. Sollte Morrison ins Gefängnis müssen, würde er “neutralisiert” werden – Originalzitat: “Fink was quietly told that his famous client would be neutralized in prison – murdered or incapacitated – and should get out of the country before his legal appeals were exhausted and his passport confiscated.” (Quelle)

Verhaftung wegen obszöner Gesten während eines Konzerts

Wer diese Warnung aussprach, bleibt unbekannt. Da Rudin (zu dessen Klienten u.a. Frank Sinatra zählte) Verbindungen zur damaligen Nixon-Administration hatte, scheint der Verdacht nahezuliegen, dass das politische Establishment Morrison als eine als “gefährlich” eingeschätzte Identifikationsfigur der Gegenkultur unbedingt aus dem Weg haben wollte- das FBI führte schon seit längerer Zeit eine umfangreiche Akte über seine Aktivitäten. (Über die Theorie Alex Constantine’s zum erfolgreich umgesetzten Plan miteinander verschworener US-Mächte, alle Leitfiguren der US-Jugenkultur zu beseitigen, habe ich hier schon ausführlich berichtet, siehe Rubrik “Tote Rockstars“.)

Frankreich als Land, das damals kein Auslieferungsabkommen mit Amerika hatte, schien als “Exil” perfekt für Morrison- es wäre allerdings möglich, daß er dort das Opfer von ihm nachgereisten Killern wurde. Diese Theorie ist übrigens so gut wie jede andere, denn Morrison-Freundin Pamela Courson hatte kurz nach seinem Tod – je nach Zuhörer- verschiedenste Versionen seiner Todesumstände parat. Danny Sugerman (einer der zwei Doors-Manager) erzählte sie wahlweise die offizielle Version, aber auch, daß sie Morrison umgebracht hätte. Pariser Reportern gegenüber wiederum erklärte sie, “Morrison sei nicht tot, nur sehr müde und erhole sich in einem Spital“.

Jim & Pam: Letzte Tage in Paris

Obwohl die Verwirrung Coursons mit einem Schock unmittelbar nach dem Tod ihres Geliebten erklärbar wäre, bleiben ihre späteren Aussagen rätselhaft. Courson wurde in den Jahren nach Morrisons Ableben zunehmend geistig verwirrt und verstarb 1974 an einer Heroin-Überdosis. Ihre geistige Instabilität könnte auch mit dem zu tun haben, was sie in jener Nacht des 3. Juli wirklich sah oder miterleben musste, dazu später mehr.

Obwohl also die einzige Zeugin von Morrison’s Tod in den Tagen darauf immer wieder erklärte, “ihr Freund sei noch am Leben“, hatte ein Pariser Arzt längst einen Totenschein für “James Douglas Morrison, Poet” ausgestellt. Irgendwer schien es eilig zu haben, denn der Sarg wurde versiegelt, bevor die amerikanische Botschaft oder Morrison’s Familie benachrichtigt wurde. Sechs Tage später wurde der Doors-Sänger bereits in aller Stille am berühmten Pariser Friedhof Pere-Lachaise beerdigt; in einer kurz darauf einberufenen Pressekonferenz erklärte der zweite Doors-Manager Bill Siddons, Morrison sei an einem “Blutgerinnsel” und/oder an einer “möglichen Lungen-Infektion” gestorben.

Auch Siddons hatte den Leichnam nicht gesehen, obwohl er nach einem Anruf von Courson so schnell wie möglich nach Paris geflogen war. Woher er also seine medizinischen Informationen bezog, ist ungeklärt. Ebenso rätselhaft bleibt auch, wie es überhaupt möglich war, Morrison in Pere-Lachaise zu beerdigen, dem berühmten Pariser Friedhof, auf dem Balzac, Chopin und Moliere begraben sind – dass ein amerkanischer Rocksänger hier seine letzte Ruhe fand, erscheint auch heute noch höchst ungewöhnlich. Einen Grabstein bekam er erst Monate später, einstweilen blieb das Grab unmarkiert. Als Doors-Drummer John Densmore dieses später besuchte, soll er übrigens spontan ausgerufen haben: “The grave is too short!“.

Soweit die verwirrenden Geschehnisse rund um den Tod des legendären Jim Morrison. Klar, daß dies einen mehr als idealen Nährboden für Verschwörungstheorien aller Art bildete, denen man allerdings (wohl mit Rücksicht auf die verbliebene Familie) auch immer wieder versuchte, entgegenzusteuern.

Vor einiger Zeit lief auf dem deutschen TV-Sender Phoenix eine Dokumentation, die versprach, die mysteriösen Umstände rund um den Tod des Doors-Sängers endgültig aufzuklären. Auf einem Zeitungs-Interview basierend, welches der Journalist und ehemalige Nachtclubbesitzer Sam Bernett im Juli 2007 gegeben hatte, wurde hier eine andere uralte Morrison-Todeslegende neu aufgewärmt.

Laut Bernett, einem selbsternannten “besten Freund” Morrisons jener Tage, soll dieser in der Nacht vom 2. auf den 3. Juli in dem berühmten Pariser Nachtclub “Rock’n Roll Circus” (dessen Geschäftsführer Bernett damals war) Heroin für seine Freundin gekauft haben; als er am WC des Clubs eine Kostprobe des fast reinen Stoffes zu sich nahm, soll er zusammengebrochen sein. Die Dealer, die ihm den Stoff verkauft hatten, sollen den besinnungslosen (oder inzwischen bereits toten) Rockstar unbemerkt von der Öffentlichkeit quer durch Paris in seine Wohnung transportiert und ihn dort in die Badewanne gelegt haben. Den Beteiligten wurde Stillschweigen auferlegt und sie hätten angeblich kurz darauf sogar das Land verlassen, um einen Skandal zu vermeiden.

Für diese mehr als unglaubwürdige Geschichte gibt es übrigens keinen einzigen Beweis oder Zeugen, ausser jener ominösen Aussage von Sam Bernett- auch daß dieser überhaupt zum engeren Bekanntenkreis Morrisons gehörte, ist durch nichts als seine eigenen Worte belegt. Ein anderer berühmter Junkie von damals, Marianne Faithful, soll angeblich Kenntnis von den Vorfällen im Pariser Nachtclub haben, sie hat allerdings niemals einen Kommentar dazu abgegeben.

Die angesprochene TV-Dokumentation stilisiert Morrison in seinen letzten Tagen in Paris ausserdem zu einem nachdenklichen, stillen Poeten, der mit Wehmut letzte Gedichte schrieb und in eleganten Strassencafes herumflanierte. Die Wirklichkeit sah vermutlich anders aus- wie in Oliver Stone’s Filmbiographie “The Doors” anklingt (und dieser Film stützt sich auf glaubhafte Quellen) dürfte der Doors-Sänger seine Zeit in der französischen Hauptstadt eher im exzessiven Vollrausch verbracht haben.

Es existiert noch ein letztes Audiodokument aus jener Zeit: Morrison hatte sich einer spontanen Eingebung folgend zwei eher bescheiden talentierte Strassenmusiker geschnappt und versuchte mit ihnen in einem kurzfristig gemieteten Studio ein paar Songs aufnehmen – herausgekommen ist dabei nur ein bißchen besoffenes Gegröhle, welches aber trotzdem die unnachahmliche Majestät dieser einstmals gigantischen Bluesstimme anklingen lässt:

Warum also war Morrison wirklich in Paris? Vielleicht bereitete er seinen Ausstieg aus einem Leben vor, daß ihm längst mehr als lästig geworden war. Über solch einen Ausstieg hatte er vorher unzählige Male gesprochen- und dass er danach unerkannt in Afrika leben wolle. Als Deckname wollte er “Mr. Mojo Risin” benutzen, dieses legendär gewordene Anagramm seines Namens in dem Song “L.A. Woman” aus der gleichnamigen, wohl besten aller Doors-LP’s. Wie viele andere Rockstars unter dem Druck ihrer Popularität war auch Morrison fasziniert von “Ausstiegs-Szenarien“- er beschäftigte sich zum Beispiel oft mit der Möglichkeit, daß die Jünger des noch lebendigen Jesus diesen nach seiner Kreuzigung aus seiner Gruft “entwendet” hätten.

Es gibt einige interessante Berichte von “Sichtungen” Morrisons nach seinem offiziellen Tod – Ein Bankangestellter in San Francisco schwor Stein und Bein, der quicklebendige Doors-Sänger hätte an seinem Schalter Geld behoben; mehrmals wurde Morrison auch – ganz in schwarzes Leder gekleidet – beim Besuch von diversen Nachtclubs in Los Angeles gesehen. Und dann gibt es da zwei äusserst verwirrende Dokumente: zum Beispiel eine Langspielplatte von einer sehr seltsamen Band namens “Phantom’s Divine Comedy“. 1974 bei Columbia Records erschienen, bestand diese laut offiziellem Presseinfo aus einem Schlagzeuger X, einem Bassisten Y, einem Orgelspieler Z- und einem Sänger namens “The Phantom“, der verteufelt nach Jim Morrison klang. Bis heute rätselt man, wer das sein könnte; die wiedervereinigten Doors? Zahlreiche Versuche, andere Sänger (z.b. Iggy Pop) als “The Phantom” zu entlarven, sind bis heute fruchtlos geblieben. Hier ein Auschnitt aus einem Lied der Platte, ein Song mit dem Titel “Black Magic, White Magic“:

1975 erschien dann ein Buch namens “The Bank Of America Of Lousiana“, verfasst von einem “Jim Morrison“; am Ende dieses überaus seltsamen Werkes ein äusserst kryptischer Satz: “B of A & Company, USA… where monkey business is big business.” Das Buch wurde herausgegeben von einer “Zeppelin Publishing Company“, welche wiederum im Besitz von “B of A Communications” ist- und deren Eigentümer ist ein gewisser Douglas James Morrison. Der ehemalige Doors-Frontman nun mit vertauschten Vornamen als Banker und Geschäftsmann? Kaum zu glauben, doch Morrison träumte früher von genau so einer Karriere. Danny Sugerman gegenüber äußerte er sich mehrmals in dieser Richtung- Zitat von Thomas Lyttle: “Morrison also told Danny Sugarman and Jerry Hopkins on more than one occasion that he could see himself “radically changing careers, reappearing as a suited and neck-tied businessman.“

Ein wirklich seltsames Buch...

Besagter Thomas Lyttle hat sich für einen Beitrag in dem von Jim Keith herausgegebenen Buch “Secret and Suppressed” auf die Spur dieses “Douglas James Morrison, Eigentümer von B of A Communications” gesetzt und herausgefunden, daß dieser jede Menge Verbindungen zu Geheimdiensten in aller Welt hatte – auch das passt wiederum gut zu dem “originalen” Morrison, dessen Vater Steven als hochrangiger Admiral der U. S. Navy wichtige Kontakte zur CIA hatte; wer weiß schon, in welche und wieviele Geheimnisse sein Sohn eingeweiht wurde.

Hat sich Jim Morrison als “Geheimagent” wiedererschaffen? Schwer vorstellbar, denn dieser andere “Douglas James Morrison” muß ja schon zur Zeit des Rock-Sängers Morrison existiert haben. Es gibt eine Theorie, die versucht, das ganze Schlamassel rund um Tod und “Nachleben” von Jim Morrison zumindest ansatzweise zu erklären; auch diese stammt von Thomas Lyttle und istzwar oftmals belächelt und vorallem entrüstet abgelehnt worden, fand aber nichtsdestotrotz Eingang in den grossen Kanon berühmter “Urban Legends“.

Lyttle entwickelte eine “okkulte” Theorie, nach der Morrison schon zu Lebzeiten fähig war, gleichzeitig als mehrere “Personen” zu existieren- als er von seiner Existenz als “Rockstar” genug hatte, könnte er diesen Teil am 3. Juli 1971 in Paris vernichtet haben. Auch wenn sich das jetzt für manche von euch eher Gaga anhört- man sollte keinesfalls vergessen, wie bewandert Jim Morrison in magischen Künsten war. In seiner Kindheit kam er bei einem Ausflug mit seinen Eltern zufällig zum Ort eines Unfalls hinzu, dort (wie er später erzählte) fuhr der Geist eines sterbenden Indianers in ihn- in seinen Songtexten hat er sich ausgiebig mit diesem Erlebnis beschäftigt. Er bezeichnete sich selbst als “praktizierenden Schamanen” und seine Texte sind ja nun wirklich bis zum Anschlag vollgestopft mit okkulten Anspielungen.

Es wäre Morrison also ein Leichtes gewesen sein, die Realität zu manipulieren; gerade seine vermutliche Fähigkeit zum Abtauchen in paralelle Realitäten könnte auch der Grund für die unglaublichen Verwirrnisse rund um seinen “Tod” sein. Möglich wäre natürlich auch, daß er mit schwarzer Magie zu tun hatte- wie wir wissen, gehört der sog. “Seelentausch” hier zu einem oft praktizierten Ritual (wie ich vor kurzem gehört habe, auch im massiv von Satanisten unterwanderten Vatikan). Wer weiß, welche schreckliche Zeremonie die arme Pamela Courson in der Nacht des 3. Juli mitansehen musste? Daß sie dabei ihre geistige Gesundheit einbüsste, wäre sehr leicht nachzuvollziehen.

Ausserdem möchte ich noch anmerken, daß Morrison mit für sich erfundenen Attributen wie “The Lizard King” oder Songtiteln wie z.b. “Crawling King Snake” auch Hinweise auf eine mögliche reptiloide Herkunft gegeben haben könnte- in welchem Fall das “Schlüpfen” in verschiedene Identitäten für ihn sowieso kein Problem gewesen sein dürfte. Aber da kennt sich David Icke bekanntlich besser aus.

A real "Lizard King"?

Das waren nun so ziemlich alle mir bekannten Theorien zum Mythos des Todes und der Auferstehung des Jim Morrison – falls ihr noch weitere wisst, freue ich mich über entsprechende Kommentare.

Morrison war übrigens auch ein musikalischer Visionär: In diesem Interviewauschnitt beschreibt er die Zukunft der elektronischen Musik.

Ich konnte nicht widerstehen, euch noch das hier zu präsentieren- den Mitschnitt einer Jimi Hendrix- Jamsession 1968 in einem New Yorker Club. Irgendwann wankt ein sturzbesoffener Morrison auf die Bühne, gröhlt absurde Obszönitäten ins Mikro, wird von Hendrix zurechtgewiesen. Er “singt” weiter, irgendwann fällt er samt Mikrofonständer um ( zu hören bei ca. bei 3.22 min), ist allerdings auch liegend nicht dazu zu bringen, endlich die Klappe zu halten. Ganz grosses Kino für die Ohren!

La nostalgia se hizo presente en la Plaza de Toros México, con la música de The Doors, pero ahora en el concepto llamado Riders on the Storm, banda comandada por los legendarios Ray Manzarek (teclados) y Robbie Kriegger (guitarra), quienes llevaron la noche del viernes a 20 mil fanáticos a corear los clásicos que crearon en los años sesenta.

Los rockeros que crecieron con su música aprovecharon para recordar esos gloriosos tiempos, acompañados de sus hijos quienes escucharon en vivo los emblemáticos temas como  ”Love Me Two Times”, “L.A. Woman”, ”Touch Me”, “Love Her Madly”  o “Light My Fire”, que siempre provocaron el delirio del respetable.

Con Brett Scallions en la voz, Ty Dennis en la batería y Phil Chen en el bajo, la música de The Doors volvió a sonar, “resucitando” un poco la magia del inmortal Jim Morrison.

Fueron dos horas de música de alta calidad, que hasta la fecha, chicos y grandes siguen escuchando, siempre manteniendo la leyenda del “Rey lagarto” .

Riders on the Storm en México

La nostalgia sigue siendo un buen negocio y esto le ha funcionado a dos ex miembros de The Doors,  (Ray Manzarek y Robbie Krieger) quienes acompañados de otros músicos realizan aún giras, tocando los éxitos que inmortalizó la voz de Jim Morrison y este viernes 13 estarán tocando en  la Plaza de Toros México, pero bajo el nombre de Riders on the Storm, (nombre de una  canción emblemática que cantaba “El rey lagarto”).

En una rueda de prensa en la Ciudad de México, Ray Manzarek  se mostró feliz por regresar con el público azteca que siempre los ha tratado muy bien.

Como siempre pasa en las conferencias de rock, se habla de todo y a la vez no se habla de nada, aunque lo más gracioso fue cuando Manzarek grito el clásico “¡Viva México!” y después afirmó que lo que más le gusta de este país es la mariguana (buena fama de distribuidores tenemos) y las mujeres.

Riders on the Storm conformado además de Manzarek (teclados) y Krieger (guitarra),  por Phil Chen (guitarra),  Ty Dennis ( batería) y Brett Scallions (voz), se presentarán también este jueves en Pachuca, Hidalgo y el 14 de febrero en Monterrey, Nuevo León.

Mientras leía los diarios de hoy me encontré un editorial de Jaime Almeida en Milenio titulado “Calderón en Davos: ¿cómo canta las rockeras?” donde menciona que Felipe Calderón uso los títulos de la rolas “Riders on the Storm” de The Doors y “Another brick in the wall” de Pink Floyd para hacer publicidad color de rosa en Davos.

Hay que responder con música, of course.
