Yesterday I received an e-mail from my cousin in Arkansas. She keeps me informed of goings on and I

Yesterday I received an e-mail from my cousin in Arkansas. She keeps me informed of goings on and I appreciate her messages. She wrote that her husband and brother (another cousin) had gone to “the farm” at three a.m. on a deer hunting foray. The farm she mentioned is owned by her husband and he drives about a hundred miles at least once a week, sometimes more often, to see how things are going and to consult with his manager.

This year, his crops are soy beans and rice. At least one of the rice fields has been harvested but the soy beans were largely destroyed under a deluge of rain that extended over several days and inundated the crop land. Such is the fate of farmers. It’s a risky business.

The farm is large and meanders in and out of stands of woods. The crops are ringed by dirt roads that form a boundary between the woods and the crop land. And running through the crops are a series of smaller roads, small dikes, and irrigation canals. Water for the crops is diverted from creeks and streams that run through the woods by a series of diversion dams between the woods and the crops.

The woods are a convenient home for deer and smaller wildlife, and the crop lands are prime sources of food for them. When my cousin’s husband gave me a tour of the farm a couple of months ago, we saw several herds of deer browsing along the edges of the soybeans, which were still thriving at that time. The deer were easily visible from our ground-level position on the perimeter road, and had anyone had the inclination and a deer rifle, he could easily have shot one maybe two deer before they bolted.

But the accepted method of deer hunting is from a deer stand. For lack of a better description, a deer stand is like a small tree-house constructed on the trunk of a tree about 30 feet from the ground. A stand is really nothing more than a platform anchored to the tree with two by fours as braces.

Hunters access the stand by climbing a wooden ladder. Then, they wait for the deer to appear in their view. If the deer are near enough for a clear shot, then the hunter is likely to kill his limit in short order. If there are two hunters, both may kill their limit before the day is over.

On the day I visited, my cousin’s husband pointed out several strategically placed deer stands. Even from ground level, the crops spread out before me for well over a thousand yards. From the vantage point of one of the elevated stands, a hunter could see much further. A hunter with a high-powered deer rifle with a scope can score a hit easily from that distance.

As we drove around the farm and the woods, with my cousin’s husband explaining the intricacies of farming, I began to think about my own hunting days. I was young then, very young, and a part of the culture of the time and place. My favorite reading material was the Shooters Bible, at that time a flashy publication advertising every make of gun anyone could imagine.

I myself owned four guns, a .22 caliber plinking rifle, a .20 gauge shotgun for small birds and varmints, a .12 gauge shotgun once owned by my granddad for quail, pheasants, and rabbits, and a bolt-action 7-millimeter Belgium Mauser. This latter gun is a mystery. I can’t remember how I came to have it in my possession. I just remember driving to a gravel pit with friends and shooting cans with it. This was one hell of a powerful rifle, literally blowing a can to smithereens.

Because of my background, I entered the military service quite familiar with guns. I was very accurate with the M-1 Carbine used then by the Air Force. I could easily hit the bull’s eye with regularity, and at one time I was asked to join the rifle team. I declined respectfully. Although I was a good shot, I didn’t want to spend my service time on a rifle range. Competition firing isn’t just a matter of picking up a gun and shooting it when your turn comes. Consistent accuracy takes a lot of practice to achieve. I was too undisciplined then.

After my service time ended, I never returned to the old home place except for brief visits and I never hunted again. It wasn’t that I suddenly became anti-gun. My life following my discharge from the service became filled with family, job, and various other sports, primarily baseball at first but eventually fast-pitch softball. I played in a city league for a few years and hung it up in favor of golf. That’s where my life stands at the present.

When I received my cousin’s e-mail, I wondered what I would do if her husband asked me to accompany him to the farm for deer hunting. I knew that I wouldn’t, so the only issue was how to say no gracefully. I finally settled on a straightforward and honest answer. “No, thanks, but I appreciate the invitation,” I would say simply without embellishment or excuse. If I were pressed further, I would add, “I don’t hunt anymore. It’s merely a matter of my personal preference, but I certainly don’t object to other people hunting,” I intend to avoid a never-ending series of excuses about guns and hunting. It’s counterproductive.

The truth of the matter is, a truth I will never tell my cousin, shooting a deer with a high-powered deer rifle is too easy. Where is the challenge? The process might be fair if the deer had a rifle, too. Besides, I am at a stage of economic independence that I don’t need to hunt to eat. Some people do, of course. Let them. Me, I just trot down to Safeway and browse the aisles, hunting for a can of SPAM.

The wolverine is the largest member of the weasel family, weighing up to thirty pounds. With its dark, shaggy hair and short bushy tail, the wolverine looks something like a small bear. It lives in northern forests.

It has a skunk-like scent for defense and is sometimes called a “skunk bear.”

For its size, the wolverine is unequaled in appetite and craftiness, and is the trapper’s worst enemy.

During the winter, the wolverine follows the trapper’s footsteps and skillfully steals the bait from the traps set for more valuable animals, or eats the animals caught in the trap.

The wolverine not only robs the trapper of his bait and catch, but may even sneak into the trapper’s cabin, eat his food and steal anything in sight, including rifles, axes, dishes, even blankets, all of which it carries away and buries.

It repays his “host” by leaving the cabin uninhabitable by its foul smell.

Because they have been hunted ruthlessly, wolverines have become rare in North America and are seldom seen enough of Canada today. – Johnny Wonder

SEEMS like i cant get all these weapon idea out of my mind and I am now able to look at a piece of paper, draw a couple of lines on the paper and then a design will morph out. I havent done something from absolute nothing without refrence in a long time so its a good practice… i think. Having studied all those Imagine FX magazines you’d think it’ll give me some form of idea to use in my designs at the momment.

The pens i mentioned yesterday are, in two words, FUCKING BRILLIANT, i might have accidentally forced bled one in one of the images bellow but thats what i did with the pens. having 12 sets of greys gives me a whole arsneal of Layering and colorization to my future mangas (Which i seem to have run out of Ink from… and need to import neko piko ink just to be on the safe side. For now i am just using waterproof Mitsubsihi pens. as shown… here:

For those of you who want to try drawing in pens especially on guns i recommend using 0.05, 0.1 and 0.3 they are very versitile and if you dont know how to use a set square start learning how to, they are useful when it comes to designs like this. For rough sketching and drawing intial lines i use a H4 cause i like to push down on my pens really hard so i need a really hard pencil. anyone who does it lighter needs to use a B or up. I use H because I like to break B pencils . Just a small tip.

So what did i do? Oh yes, here we go: I’ll actually have descriptions this time. After talking to someone who looked at the concepts on DA i figured it couldnt hurt to write one:

Concept 3:

I decided on another pistol, this time another lazer variant (I seem to like drawing laser guns. Functionality wise i guess you would have two modes, a single shot fire and a rapid shot fire. Both variants can be triggered via the LCD touch screen. The weapon is charged and is fed by its internalenergy caps and also the clip so i am not too sure but if i decide to use Halo ideals about 45-60 shots per clip and an inital 100 sounds fair?

As for drawing the thing it didnt take long, i drew 5 lines to initate the basic shape and then fed off that with more lines. The color was a pain to learn this is my third time using Copic type markers so bear with me on the crappness. (To my standard anyways). I should really find a standard for all these stats hey?

Concept 4:

I read on DA that some stuff needs an authnication to use weapons i just thought of that and designed one. ITs a Linear plasma rifle so it fires particle condensed laser shots at opponents, I’d guess it’d be single fire mode only i dont think the frame can support the pulse or rapid fire rate. Its another energy based weapon, and i did not design a clip for this. So intially it’d have about 149 shots, it’d be massively heavy and once the shots are used you’d have to return it to the charge rack.

I guess the idea of using an authentication to stop outside personell from using the weapon is pretty smart. But i dont know ahaha still learning about guns and stuff. You guys must be bored of my ranting about concept arts and stuff.

Aside from that tomorrow is the webcomic update stay tuned guyse.

John Signing out.

So anyway minor updates:

I was bumming around in my room and i was thinking, what should i do, i clearly has no idea but then a couple of ideas spawned from borderlands. Hey Jawn why dont you maek some guns ;D and so i did, probably would have been a better idea for borderlands to allow you to make your own guns. The general idea of an RPG-shooter is successful enough, just not enough customization. Basically a Diablo-FPS kinda thing.

Anyway heres the concepts i thought of. Firstly:

Probably cant see it as clearly here but the full image will be on Deviantart .

Originally started as a handgun then i thought that a submachine gun would be better. So why not add an extension barrel and a silencer while we are at it? I also noticed that in borderlands EVERYTHING has a damn scope lol. then i thought lets make it energy infused and added an energy clip along with the original clip. Pretty straightforward :S Not much else i can comment on.

Concept 2:

This one was alot easier to accomplish, as usual it started as a handgun but i morphed it into a plasma rifle. Not much to comment on the picture speaks a 1000 words lol.

Well thats it for the day guys.

Sam knew Luke had a swing in his backyard. Everyone in town knew of it. They were used to seeing children playing back there. It was sort of like the town’s park. Luke had also crudely fashioned a seesaw for them to play on, using a short-legged sawhorse and a long, wooden plank. Plans were underway to build a treehouse up in the same elm that held the swing. He’d already finished the ladder, and had hoped to begin the rest of the work next spring. They had yet to see any kids come over on this day. Parents were worried over their safety, after all that had gone on the night before, and had kept their children in-house for good reason. Until the killer was caught, there’d be no playing outside.

Luke went on out the back to see what it was that they wanted. He was working up the gall to say ‘no’, just in case. His frazzled nerves made him feel anxious again, easily and quickly. As soon as Sam saw him open the door, he began to speak. “Hey, Luke! I was hoping you’d do me a favor.” Luke held his breathe, and raised his eyebrows, then responded nervously,”What do you need, Sam?” Sam noticed the worried look on Luke’s face, and put his mind to ease at once. “No, it’s not that. We don’t need you to go along with us.” Luke sighed in relief. “Here’s the deal,” Sam began. “Our Deputy Marshall has just sworn us in. It is now official. We have lawful orders to carry out. We will assist the Deputy in this manhunt. We are to bring our stranger back alive, if at all possible. From what we’ve heard, the murderer doesn’t even carry a gun, which is hard to believe. Of course, we know he carries a knife, and it’s likely to be the murder weapon. That’s not a problem, he’ll be no match against us. We did ask around. Nobody saw him wearing a pistol. No one saw a rifle in his saddle. He bought no ammunition while he was here. The man must be crazy. That’s plain stupid. Anyway, he’ll be an easy catch, if we can find him, that is. I think I know where he’s off to. The Deputy is staying here to keep watch over the town. He’ll send word out to his boss, the nearest Marshall, on the next train that comes through. It’s due tomorrow.”

“Here’s the problem, Luke. It’s nothing much. We need a long, strong rope, like that one over there, the one you’re using for a swing,” Sam continued. Luke jumped all over that admission, and sarcastically replied, “I thought you said ‘alive’…that you’d bring him back alive.” Sam wasted no time, “No. It’s not that. We don’t need it to hang him. Heaven’s to Betsy, no. We have some smaller rope to tie his hands behind his back. But I hear he has a mighty fine horse, and I want to get it back here. If I can work things out, I hope to keep it. I need a rope like yours, so we can pull it along behind us. I don’t want it getting away. So, what do you say? I’ll bring it back to you just as soon as I can. If anything happens to it, I’ll buy you another. We don’t have time to mess around right now. The man has a pretty good head start on us as it is, and we need to take off here shortly, or just as soon as we can. I’m sure you understand.” Sam had kept a serious look on his face during the whole explanation, and his eyes never left their target. That didn’t matter to Luke. He thought it was a lame excuse for wanting the rope. “He’s a hankerin’ for a hangin’, if anything,” he silently spoke to himself.

“Well, since you put it that way, I suppose so.” Luke was doing his best to act enthused over the whole deal. “No problem, Sam. No problem at all. The kids won’t miss it for a day or two. Besides, most of them will be stuck in their houses for awhile. I’ll climb right on up and untie the knots. It’ll only take a few. Hang on a minute, and I’ll go get it.” But before he could take two steps, Sam stopped him. “That’s alright, Luke. Don’t bother. We’ll get it down, no problem. Thanks a lot! You’ve saved us some time. It may take us a day or two. I want you showing up at the ranch Monday, no matter what. My help will be expecting you. They’ll show you around, and you can see what’s what. I know your a self-starter, so I’m sure you can find some work to do. We’ll be back as soon as we can, by Tuesday at least, with or without him. Don’t you worry about us now. I’ve been through this before. We’ll get ‘er done. Okay?” Sam appeared self-assured, as usual. Luke wasn’t at all happy after he heard the idea, but he continued to be agreeable. He had many fond memories tied up in that rope, and he didn’t want to lose them altogether in one shot. Luke knew it was silly to think about it like that, but he did it anyway, and quite naturally, in fact.

“Sure, Sam, sure,” answered Luke, thinking as he spoke. “Oh, yes. I’ll be there Monday, you can count on it. Sounds great!” Luke had thought of some questions while Sam was speaking, and he finally remembered what they were. “Can I ask you something? I was wondering. You know, that foreigner doesn’t speak English. How will he know why he’s being tied up and made prisoner? I mean, how would he even confess? Do you hope to find the pastor’s blood on his knife, or what? Won’t you need some kind of evidence?”

Sam had already asked himself these questions, so he already knew the answers. “Yes, Luke, evidence would help, if it comes to that. Blood on his hands, especially. I think he’ll know the why’s, though. Do you think he didn’t turn around once and look at the fire? Even if he didn’t start it, I surely think he’d of noticed, or heard your cry for help and looked back. As far as the confession goes, a simple nod either way will suffice. We’ll just stand that bastard in front of the burnt down church. Excuse my language. I think he’ll get the picture, if he hadn’t figured it out by then.” Luke was regularly struck by Sam’s unending show of confidence. Yesterday’s hero had a small sliver of doubt in his mind, concerning the stranger’s guilt. It was acting like a thorn stuck in his side, painfully and constantly pricking away. He’d yet to get beyond the shadow.

Madness! I just got my latest edition of the Century Arms catalog, and they’re running Romanian AKs for around $350-$375. That seems to be the going price right now, as you can order them from AIM Surplus for about $379. If you want to “go big” you can get a Hungarian side-folding stock AK for less that $400 from AIM.

I don’t own an AK, but for those prices it’s worth buying one. Just don’t do anything to do, buy it, leave it stock, and shoot the wheels off it.

In today’s Tactical Wire:

There are a lot of accessories out there for the AK, but I think it’s perfect as is. You just have to remember what it was designed for, and learn and practice the techniques for operating it. If you don’t own one it’s still a good idea to know how to work them. There are millions of them out there, and your chance of coming across one is very likely. If you’re fighting with a pistol, and the opportunity to acquire an AK comes up, you need to be able to use it properly. (emphasis mine)

The embolden part is actually the most important part of that, because I think that in the whole AK vs. AR kerfuffle that too many people are trying to make the AK into an AR, or compare rifles that aren’t really comparable. The AK was well and truly born out of the sewers and streets of Stalingrad, in the sense that the battles the Russians fought in WWII shaped their combat infantry doctrine.

Hello everyone, Again, sorry for the length of time between posts. I am trying to find a somewhat d

Hello everyone,

Again, sorry for the length of time between posts. I am trying to find a somewhat decent schedule to allow me to be able to do this more often. So since CSS is pretty much the only game I have really been playing as of late, here are some skins that I like to use to make the game a little more interesting.

Lately I have put down Guildwars and have moved on to a on-line multi-player based First Person Shooter called Counter Strike Source. Now I am sure that at least 80% of the world has heard of this game and at least 40% of it is addicted to it..haha jk. But the jist of the game is to keep the terrorist for achieving their goal. I mainly try to play both Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist equally as the servers I usually play on usually auto select what I am anyways. I try to alway play teh CS_Office map because I find it the most fun and it basically gives both teams a equal advantage against the other.

Normally if I am a Counter-Terrorist I use the Famas, Deagle, Scout, M4 and the M3. If I am a Terrorist I usually go with Mac10, Deagle, M3, Scout and the Sig552.

Each gun is unique in its own. Basically you have to learn how each guns recoil will affect the path of the bullets. This has been my challenge the whole 3 years I have been playing this game. I have learned to just accept that this game isn’t perfect and to not trust that every bullet will kill the person you are shooting at. I’m sure some people will tell you that they unloaded a shotgun in someone’s face from 2ft away and some how they did only 20 dmg, while that person died. That is just the nature of the beast with this game. It really does take some practice and hand eye coordination with the cross-hairs and the mouse. If you want to get more in depth on learning the guns of CS…just YouTube the gun and I am sure you will find loads of video on the guns recoil and spray patterns.

All of these skins are FREE and very easy to install, but don’t be surprised if there maybe one that gives you an issue. My advice to any of you who want to do this..BACK UP YOUR CSTRIKE FOLDER before you make any changes!!!!

Village of the Giants is a 1965 science-fiction/comedy movie with many elements of the beach party film genre. It was produced, directed and written by Bert I. Gordon, and based loosely on H.G. Wells’s book The Food of the Gods. The story revolves mostly around a chemical substance called “Goo”, which causes giant growth in living things, and what happens after a gang of rebellious youngsters get their hands on it. The cast was mostly teens, or young actors playing teens, and The Beau Brummels and Freddy Cannon make musical guest appearances. The movie was a low-budget exploitation film and not a huge hit (released mostly to drive-ins as part of a double bill), but had some notable use of special effects and undoubted sex appeal, and went on to become a cult classic. The movie proved far more successful years later, when released on home video.

Trivia:

In one scene one of the giants reads an issue of “Famous Monsters of Filmland” with another Bert I. Gordon film, War of the Colossal Beast (1958), in the cover.

Exteriors were shot on the Columbia Studios backlot (now part of the Warner Bros. Backlot), the same lot as the exteriors for the TV series “Bewitched” (1964) and “I Dream of Jeannie” (1965). Many scenes were shot on Courthouse Square at Universal Studios, which doubled as Hill Valley in Back to the Future (1985).

Loosely based on the H.G. Wells story “The Food of the Gods”, about a substance that causes giant mutations in growing organisms. Children fed the substance become giants (capable of producing giant offspring), who choose to fight when their existence is threatened by adult authorities.

The brand of chicken that the giant teenagers eat is a tie-in to the once-famous restaurant chain called Chicken Delight. The chain was known for home delivery of chicken and ribs, as well as it’s catchy motto: “Don’t cook tonight, call Chicken Delight.” A banner for the restaurant chain can be seen on a wall behind the adults who turn in their rifles.

The beer that the delinquent teens drink after crashing their car is the once popular Blatz Beer.

The fountain that Freddy Cannon sings in front of is the same one seen in the opening of “Friends” (1994).

An alternate version of the theme music – “The Last Race” – was reused by Quentin Tarantino in Death Proof (2007).

The “Teen Magazine” that Merrie (Joy Harmon) reads was an actual issue of the magazine published in July 1965.

During the 3PM service last Sunday, Raf Oca was telling me about the robbery that happened earlier i

During the 3PM service last Sunday, Raf Oca was telling me about the robbery that happened earlier in the day. A group of heavily armed men dressed up looking like members of the bomb squad broke into the Rolex watch store inside Greenbelt 5. The incident resulted with one of the robbers dead on the floor, an undetermined amount of watches stolen, and two policemen awarded for their bravery and courage. The aftermath of such a high-profile crime has its list of people to blame. One group of people probably on the top of the list are the security guards.

Some say that the mall security guards were overpowered by the armed men, while others say that they were deceived by the uniform of the robbers. They told the security guards that they were responding to an emergency call in Greenbelt 2 (source) so it’s pretty believable especially with their outfits. What I find ironic is that they were identified as bomb squad members responding to an “emergency,” but they were carrying M14 and M16 automatic rifles as well as a grenade launcher (source). Why would a group of bomb specialists responding to a fake bomb threat carry high powered rifles? Were the security guards even informed about the “emergency” or that there was a bomb squad on the way? Times like these bring out my investigative instincts.

The mall security guards are probably the first line of preventive measures for crimes inside the mall. I believe that we also have to take preventive measures as Christians. If we’re not founded on the Word of God, if we don’t read and study the Bible and just rely on what we hear on a Sunday or from other Christians then we can easily be deceived and manipulated. There are many philosophies and ideologies that may look and sound Christian but are not founded on the Bible. I don’t blame the security guards because I wouldn’t want to confront someone with an M16 rifle either. But as Christians we need to be able to stand up for the truth of the Word of God and not be overpowered by what the world says.

“If the Bible were the most boring book in the world, dull, uninteresting and seemingly irrelevant, it would still be our duty to study it. If its literary style were awkward and confusing, the duty would remain. We live as human beings under an obligation by divine mandate to study diligently God’s Word. A duty is not an option.” – R.C. Sproul

According to Adam Heggenstaller of Shooting Illustrated who is at Remington’s new products meeting in Texas, the Remington ACR for civilians is scheduled to be hitting shelves in “the first half of 2010.”

The ACR, or Adaptive Combat Rifle, has been an ongoing collaboration involving Bushmaster, Magpul and Remington for the past two years. A quick rundown of features includes: a two-position (suppressed and non-suppressed), short-stroke, gas-piston system of operation; modular, interchangeable bolt heads, barrels, magazines, buttstocks (one of which is a six-position side-folder) and handguards; an aluminum upper receiver and a polymer lower receiver; a cold hammer-forged, free-floating barrel; and ambidexterous controls. In short, it’s innovative and badass.

Very cool. He has pictures up at the link as well of the ACR wearing a Trijicon sight and Magpul’s MBUS plastic sights.
