<p>It&#8217;s a step up, a possible short cut to the next level. Since the age of 11 I have wanted to write for Car. Since 2 years ago I have put a target on a staff chair at Car. Last week I was chosen along with another to report alongside the Car team at the Geneva show.</p>
<p>There are 3 major motor shows on this planet. Geneva is one of those three. It is where the best of Europe show what has been, what is and what will be. It is where the eccentric Frank M. Rinderknecht of Rinspeed shows the world whatever has been knocking about his head at 4 in the morning.</p>
<p>Booking flights and hotels should have been the next step but something kept stopping me. A comment left on the Car Magazine web site sorted me. I&#8217;m gonna drive there. And back. I&#8217;m gonna write a full length feature and put together a short film. I think I may have a camera man but the car is the major missing component. Will Toyota lend me an IQ? What about Citroen? Will I have to buy something at the last minute?<br />

<p>High Gloss touch switched surfaces became quite common over the last few years but we can still experience the hype about it and there seems to be no peak visible. Touch switch everything no matter what. And APPLE with their multitouch is one of the leader. I don&#8217;t know if they were first but undoubtedly they do know how to merge software and hardware to a perfect user experience.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-103" title="EXTRACT - LED - Tweezers" src="http://ralphsnider.wordpress.com/files/2009/08/bms000284031.jpg?w=300" alt="EXTRACT - LED - Tweezers" width="300" height="234" />In 2005 we developed LED Tweezers together with marktunddesign.  To avoid additional handling behaviours, Iexperimented wtih different sensor technologies. The result was a touch switch that produced a WOW effect that I would call the CRYSTAL BLACK BOX effect.  We realized  sensor field which is invisible and applicable on any even 3D shaped injection molded transparent surface. One is how we did it, but much more interestingly and what still amaze me is how people react on that effect.</p>
<p>If you have a common touch surface this is made on a nearly opaque material, like I-Phone. But if you pull the curtain away and you let people look through and let them see&#8230; nothing &#8211; to see there eyes as they are entering wonderland is great. And it stayed great and a piece of magic over the last years.  Now I am very happy to see the LG GD 900. It seems that the crystal black box idea made it into mass production and I am keen to see how these applications and effect will be further on developed.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>A quick chronic (please let me know about further applications into that or other directions):</p>
<p>In 2005 we (<a title="Bayer MaterialScience" href="http://www.bayermaterialscience.de/internet/global_portal_cms.nsf/id/home_de" target="_blank">Bayer MaterialScience </a>and <a title="marktunddesign" href="http://www.marktunddesign.de/" target="_blank">marktunddesign</a>) realised illuminated full plastic tweezers mainly made out of Makrolon(C), called <a href="http://www.jobwerx.com/news/bms-plastics-biz-948729-119.html"><strong>EXTRACT</strong></a>. The magic within was and is that the light is just switched on while you touch the crystal clear thick material tweezers legs. No switch nor sensor visible, a crystal black box.</p>
<p>2007 the <strong><a title="EXASIS" href="http://www.yenra.com/concept-cars/exasis.html" target="_blank">Rinspeed EXASIS</a></strong>supported by Bayer MaterialScience had this feature transferred into the HMI Dashboard.  Electronics were done by KABA ident.</p>
<p>Now 2009 the breakthrough of this idea, LG launches its beautiful <a title="LG @ area mobile" href="http://www.areamobile.de/news/11147-lg-gd900-crystal-das-bessere-arena-kommt-bald-in-40-laendern-auf-den-markt" target="_blank">LG GD 900 </a>with a Crystal Black BOX TouchPad. I am very happy to see this.</p>
<p>Besides to that there are several other resistive touch pad applications out there which I haven&#8217;t mentioned here. E.g. look on google for TIPPit, they produce switches on glass with (i would guess ITO).  Interestingly even if they are already on market for years i can experience a trend now.</p>

А вот когда захочется &#8220;притопить&#8221;, можно переключить режим работы двигателя из режима &#8220;на работу&#8221; (Commuting) в режим &#8220;трасса&#8221; (Highway) и к твоим услугам 160 л.с. Идея-то совсем неплохая, но что-то мне подсказывает, что реализации ее именно в таком виде мы не получим. Honda и GM уже пытались сделать отключение ненужных цилиндров, но такой колоссальной экономии они не достигли.</em></p>

То есть, к моделям фирмы народ отнсится по-разному, но не отмахивается от них, как от &#8220;подумаешь, просто колымага на колесах&#8221;. И только на Legacy всем плевать&#8230; Может, новую Legacy и ждет успех, хотя я, как-то сомневаюсь в этом.<br />

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Over the past months we&#8217;ve seen many funny, interesting and even bizarre iPhone applications emerge.    This one however is very particular.  Rinspeed, a Swiss company specialised  in car design, has presented a car that can be driven with an iPhone.  Just put the smartphone in the build-in dock station in the dashboard and start the car by pushing the big green button on the screen.   The button replaces the key and starts the electronic system of the car.  Other electronic functionalities, such as turning on the headlights, are also integrated into the mobile device.  The iChange car was presented at the Geneva Motor Show.   <a href="http://www.networkworld.com/slideshows/2009/022309-iphone-controlled-car-ichange.html?netht=rn_022409&#38;nladname=022409#slide1" target="_blank">Check Network World for a slideshow of the iChange</a>.</p>

<p>The Rinspeed iChange is a zero-emission concept car that morphs its shape depending on the number of passengers. It also makes use of solar panels to store electricity. It&#8217;s powered by a 150 kilowatt electric motor, uses a transmition borrowed from the Subaru WRX, weighs 2,315 pounds and is controlled by an Apple iPhone. The brainchild of prolific swiss designer Frank Rinderknecht and Rinspeed, this car will be on display at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.</p>

<p>The funky looking Rinspeed iChange has made it&#8217;s appearance at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. 150Kw and 0-100 in 4.2 is not bad for a battery car. Luckily Rinspeed has used a hot European goddess as a promo girl. At least those that don&#8217;t agree with the funked up look of this car can admire the pure blonde beauty!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Perché &#8220;portare a spasso&#8221; la carrozzeria di una tre posti anche quando in macchina si è soli? È questo il principio ispiratore della iChange, l&#8217;ultima proposta dell&#8217;eclettico preparatore e costruttore svizzero Rinspeed, che ci ha abituati a concept davvero fuori dal comune, come l&#8217;auto subacquea e la dune buggy di plastica trasparente.</p>
<p>Grazie alla carrozzeria &#8220;trasformabile&#8221;, questa concept si può modificare a seconda delle esigenze. Quando è occupato solo il sedile del conducente, quello centrale, il tetto rimane nella posizione più bassa, in modo da migliorare l&#8217;aerodinamica. Se invece si devono ospitare uno o due passeggeri sulle poltroncine della fila posteriore, è sufficiente spingere un bottone perché il tetto si alzi. In questo modo l&#8217;aerodinamica peggiora un po&#8217;, ma resta abbastanza spazio per la testa di coloro che siedono dietro.</p>
<p>Questa della flessibilità è la caratteristica per cui probabilmente la iChange sarà ricordata. Però anche il resto della vettura merita attenzione. Vera sportiva a trazione elettrica, pesa soltanto 1050 kg, compreso il motore da 150 kW e le batterie agli ioni di litio, disponibili fra l&#8217;altro in due formati, a seconda dell&#8217;autonomia desiderata. Sul tetto sono posizionati alcuni pannelli fotovoltaici che alimentano l&#8217;impianto di condizionamento, dotato di un riscaldatore supplementare che può funzionare anche a bioetanolo.</p>
<p>Le prestazioni dichiarate dal costruttore sono in linea con l&#8217;aspetto da supercar: velocità massima di 220 km/h e &#8220;0-100&#8243; in poco più di quattro secondi. Al progetto iChange hanno collaborato numerosi marchi famosi: Pirelli ha fornito i pneumatici (P Zero da 17&#8243; per le ruote anteriori e da 18&#8243; per quelle posteriori), Aez i cerchi, il cambio a sei velocità è quello della Subaru Impreza WRX, mentre a gestire l&#8217;accesso senza chiave e le principali funzioni dell&#8217;auto è un iPhone Apple. L&#8217;appuntamento per vedere dal vivo la nuova Rinspeed è al Salone di Ginevra.</p>
