France and Spain have the Costa Del Sol and Riviera. Rednecks have the Emerald Coast and the Redneck Riviera, stretching around to arguably the sexiest city in America, New Orleans. Starting from the Apalachicola area in Florida (that’s the bump between the Panhandle and the bend toward the south on the Gulf Coast) and wrapping around to the Louisiana shores, the Redneck Riviera boasts every imaginable playground for country boys and girls. Described by some as Mardi Gras with a beach, the Redneck Riviera is a great place to vacation, bikini-watch, surf, or just watch the sunset in a beach chair.

A small taste: deep-sea fishing, shallow river fishing (boat or fly or whatever you love), every imaginable watersport, gambling, military museums and the Blue Angels precision flying team, white sand beaches lined with fantastic bars and nightclubs, and tons of historical spots, good golf, and nearby attractions like Disneyworld. Some of the best places along the Redneck Riviera to stay include:

Destin, Florida, is the premier Florida destination for Spring Breakers, and it should be. A combination of incredible beaches and excellent bars and hangouts provide the best beach singles strip for hundreds of miles, and you’re guaranteed in the non-Spring Break season to find good deals on beachfront condos as well as lots of great restaurants with world-class food priced for your wallet. Just a few miles away, Sandestin provides a more upscale vacation experience, including a world-class golf course. Oh, and did I mention Destin is called the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village? Destin is renowned for its great deep-sea fishing, and you’ll find it easy to charter a boat to go out and catch that marlin.

Pensacola Beach is built on the barrier island off Pensacola, a military town. Because the community is designed to appeal to tourists and young military personnel (Navy and Air Force), you’ll find lots of singles hangouts, mostly filled with other tourists (the locals generally go over to nearby Navarre or to Gulf Breeze for bar crawling). The Blue Angels put on regular air shows here as well as impromptu practices, and the naval aviation museum is unbeatable if you love military aircraft. The Pensacola area is also great for blackwater canoeing, where tea-colored rivers flow gently out into the Gulf. Don’t trust maps here; ask a local. Hurricane Ivan a few years ago tore up parts of the island, and not all roads go where they claim.

Gulf Shores, Alabama is as far west as you can go and see those wide, protected beaches. Beyond here, the barrier islands that surround and protect Florida’s coast end are washed away by the wide Mississipi delta. This is a great golfing destination, but is also perfect for just relaxing and sitting in the sun with a margarita listening to some Jimmy Buffett.

Dauphin Island is just off Gulf Shores, and is filled with stilt-constructed homes designed to avoid storm surges that come every year during hurricane season. Like Pensacola, Dauphin Island has taken a beating from recent hurricanes, but it is still beautiful. It may be more family-oriented than a single redneck looking for company would like, but it’s a great place to go for a quiet weekend to explore a new relationship.

Need a little more? The Redneck Riviera is only a little distance from New Orleans on the Gulf Shores end, and not too far from Orlando on the Destin side, where Downtown Disney and other hangouts are increasingly attracting young singles to the region. And small ocean-going casinos set out regularly from Mobile for gambling cruises. You will find just about anything you’re interested in down in the Redneck Riviera.

Since the villa is now almost completely renovated we have decided as a family to take a trip down to the Riviera to enjoy a summer break for a few weeks. So Mama, Papa, Aunt Mimi, Sir Oliver, Millie and Henri and I take the overnight train and then drive to Cap d’Antibes in two cars that we have rented.

When we arrive the lorry with masses of furnishings has also arrived from Paris and there is also Lorenzo who has been persuaded to come and join us from Italy and keep me company. We have a wonderful day emptying the lorry and placing all the furniture. I am thrilled to be able to hang all the paintings that I bought from Montparnasse. They cause a bit of a debate of course but I prevail. We have employed several local people as cook, housekeeper and gardener but they do not arrive until tomorrow. It is lucky Lorenzo is here because he had the good sense to bring with him in his car boxes of Italian delicacies and he cooks us the most amazing supper. He is such a resounding success that even Papa says “well my boy I suggest you get to London and open a restaurant.”

We take a few days to sort ourselves out, and Lorenzo and the cook argue in the kitchen each night. Papa and I discuss the landscaping of the garden and grounds and the building of a swimming pool with the gardener who will arrange and organise everything for us.

Interestingly, the older generation are not good at simply relaxing and doing nothing. Despite excellent food, brilliant sunshine, amazing surroundings, the gramophone, Mah Jong and charades, they miss the hustle and bustle of big city life and start complaining. I on the other hand have got Lorenzo, so I am perfectly content with doing very little. I have enough of a distraction. Millie and I also spend a lot of time teaching Lorenzo new dance steps and generally improving our own dancing technique. However, to ease the discontent, during the day, we start taking a few trips and take leisurely visits to Juan Le Pins and Antibes. But since most places are closed there are more outbursts.

One day we head for the sandy Plage Garoupe shaded by umbrella pines. We meet the American family of Gerald and Sara Murphy. Millie reminds me that Yvette, Henri’s sister, had told us that the Murphy’s had been here last summer with Cole Porter.

‘We are staying at the Hotel du Cap, Eden Roc’ Gerald tells us.

‘The hotel is usually closed from May to September but we persuaded the owner Antoine Sella to keep the place open with a skeleton staff this summer.’

He is thrilled when we tell him that we have bought and renovated the villa near to the hotel and suggests we join them for dinner, which we graciously accept.

We spend a pleasant afternoon swimming and lounging around and the Murphy’s extol the virtues of sunbathing. Lorenzo, Millie, Henri and I are appreciative but Mama and aunt Mimi huddle under a vast umbrella afraid of the sun. Gerald and Sir Oliver have a lot in common as they are both artists and converse for ages.

We have a delightful dinner at the Hotel du Cap. I had forgotten what a beautiful place and setting it is. This is where we came to sign the contracts for the villa back in February.  However, as the pleasantness of the dinner recedes, the grumbling gets too much and we are forced to leave early. Lorenzo comes with us. On our way back to Paris we take a detour to the luxurious surroundings of Aix-Le-Bains, or as all us Brits say ‘Aches and Pains’.

We arrive and check into the Splendid-Royal on the Rue Georges, just up above the main centre of the town next to the Excelsior. The more salubrious first-class hotels occupy commanding ledges that give sweeping views and a fresh mountain breeze that comes down from the pine covered peaks above. The Splendid-Royal is a model of architectural perfection and gets Aix’s smart summer crowd. It has a richly carpeted lobby, lined with heavy, blue marble columns, showcases from the best Paris shops and double-sized elevators, originally built to accommodate handicapped guests.

Aunt Mimi tells Lorenzo ‘this hotel has become a favorite with Americans, because they find the usual match-box French elevators claustrophobic.’

I share a room with Lorenzo which is vast with big windows and a balcony, roomy enough for a cozy breakfast in the morning that opens onto a white alabaster terrace with a fabulous view. We congregate for lunch in the splendid dining room with impeccable service on metropolitan standards, which is full and lively and rather like being in a fashionable Parisian café.

‘Ah this is much better’ says aunt Mimi glancing around nodding to people she thinks she knows.

‘I have no idea why you like that dreary spot on the Riviera at this time of the year’ says Mama. ‘This is where we should be. It is a perfect mix of elegance, good weather and correct company.’

‘Well’ says Millie with a sly smile ‘looks like you and Lorenzo will be spending the summer down there all alone next year.’

One of three Aixes in France, Aix-le-Bains of Savoy in the lower ranges of the French Alps is delightful and picturesque and I love being here. Perched on the banks of the beautiful Lac Bourget, which is eleven miles long and therefore the longest lake in France, it has become most fashionable mountain resort in Europe full of rugged crags hovering over deep wooded valleys.

In the afternoon we take a short stroll down into the town through some quaint streets that wind down the hill with some scenic views and the alpine rooflines behind us. Since Lorenzo has never been here before Mama and Aunt Mimi have taken it upon themselves to introduce him to Aix and I tag along. We reach the thermal establishment which is a veritable palace appropriately designed with a classic Roman façade but fitted with every modern up-to-date device to aid the natural powers of the waters.

Mama steps into guide mode as we wander around and says, as if we haven’t noticed…. ‘the Romans founded this health resort because of the spa and the natural powers of the waters in 122B.C. More recently, the King of Sardinia laid the foundations for another thermal spa in 1776. This new structure was created in 1857.’

She continues ‘Over a million gallons of water pour from Aix’s spring every day, hitting the surface at nearly 115 degrees. It provides the foundation for all treatments which vary according to the condition being treated from gout, nervous disorders, rheumatism, faulty blood circulation or arthritis.’

‘Of course all the ‘cure towns’ including Evian and Vichy have been made so luxurious, expensive and fashionable that many think ‘How can I be chic though sick?’ offers Aunt Mimi.

‘So you have to have the right kind of ‘chic’ malady?’ asks Lorenzo.

‘Of course. Overeating, overdrinking, insufficient use of the legs and too much wear and tear of the grey matter are chic’ replies Aunt Mimi with a laugh.

‘You see Lorenzo’ I say ‘ all the hotels are filled during the season with more or less perfect cases of overindulgence.’

In the centre of the town, just below the thermal establishment and opposite the town hall or Hotel de Ville, stands the arch of Campanus commemorating that illustrious Roman general’s soujourn here.

Clustered around the sources, the park and the fountains are other hotels including the Villa Victoria. We walk further and wander around the delightful gardens and terraces associated with the entertainment centres of the Casino and the Villa des Fleurs. The Casino also called Le Grand Cercle was built in 1824 and is a large comfortable, rambling building with a multitude of rooms inside.

The Villa de Fleurs is an equally sumptuous building. Both host excellent restaurants, a theatre, ballrooms and salons. We sit and take tea on the terrace at the Casino listening to a concert which is given daily and browse the programme of events for both venues.

Mama continues her lecture ‘Not only is it a cure town but Aix offers the most amazing array of entertainment since there are always many notable quests staying here. Of course Aix has many royal connections. Queen Victoria was a frequent visitor as was Victor Emmanuel II, Napoleon III, Wilhelmina, George of Greece and Leopold of Belgium. There will be fetes, galas and many dancing opportunities for you boys all with the right kind of girls.’

That night we have cocktails at the hotel and then make out way to the Casino for dinner. I am hugely delighted to see that Sielle and Mills, who we caught at L’Ours cabaret in Paris a few weeks ago, are the cabaret and they are once again magnificent. As the older generation drift off, we dance the night away in wonderful surroundings. Our earlier polishing of our dance routines in the villa, pays dividends and we are highly sought after as dancing partners for  a succession of charming ladies. It is very early in the morning and almost breakfast time when we walk up the hill to our hotel and we notice other people walking down the hill.

Henri says  ‘You see one half of Aix-les-Bains goes to bed about the time that the other half ventures to be parboiled and massaged.’

The next night we have dinner in the Villa des Fleurs and spend a great evening dancing in their ballroom. But in Aix-Le-Bains the dance craze doesn’t let up. Besides the casino and the villa there are always dances every night at each of the hotels and at La Polonaire and the Castel Bisolet.

We have a busy and pleasurable stay taking in the air, walks, boat rides on the lake, frolicking on the landscaped sandy beach and enjoying all the evening entertainment, not to mention a steady flow of impromptu invites to private cocktail parties and soirees. Obviously we do not make the regular early morning trek of mountain climbers with their knapsacks, spiked canes and long alpenstocks but do partake of some light tennis in the afternoon and watch boule. But, all too soon, it is time to leave and return to London via Paris.

Circa un mese fa si è abbattuta su Montesilvano una vera e propria bufera di vento e pioggia,che ha messo a dura prova la stabilità già precaria delle palme situate sul lungo mare della nostra città. Abbiamo aspettato che passassero almeno quindici giorni sperando che l’amministrazione agisse sulla manutenzione e sulla messa in sicurezza delle palme, ma ciò non è avvenuto. Vorremmo chiedere ai nostri amministratori perché non si provvede alla potatura e alla chiusura delle palme, come è sempre stato fatto negli anni passati,così che queste piante possano essere meno rovinate dal vento e dalle inevitabili intemperie della stagione invernale. Crediamo che sia più ragionevole curare la manutenzione piuttosto che rimborsare i danni che possono essere causati dalle chiome delle palme che cadono appesantite dalla mancata potatura, le quali potrebbero abbattersi su delle automobili posteggiate o cosa ancor più grave su passanti. Se ci siete battete un colpo, fatelo quantomeno per gli innamorati che vorreste far sedere sul muretto in costruzione. Insomma, senza le palme lo scenario non è molto romantico.

Il curriculum del nuovo manager di Mediobanca è del resto ricco di esperienze e incarichi significativi nel mondo cattolico. Simeon è ad esempio Priore del Magistrato di Misericordia, un`istituzione genovese nata nel 1419 e fin da allora presieduta dall`Arcivescovo della città, per occuparsi degli indigenti attraverso le donazioni di cittadini più facoltosi. Tra le sue cariche anche quella di segretario generale della Fondazione per i Beni e le Attività Artistiche della Chiesa, che fa capo alla Pontificia Commissione per i Beni Culturali della Chiesa presieduta fino a pochi mesi fa dal genovese monsignor Mauro Piacenza e oggi guidata da monsignor Mauro Ravasi. Proprio in quest`ultima veste Simeon è stato fra i promotori della «Rosa Mystica», una rosa speciale dedicata alla Madonna e prodotta anche sotto l`egida della Regione Liguria che punta a diventare il fiore ufficiale delle celebra- zioni mariane. Ma,al di là dei rapporti e degli incarichi in ambito ecclesiastico, l`avvocato ha ottime relazioni anche in ambiti più secolari: è ad esempio segretario regionale per la Liguria della lobby italoamericana Niaf, nonché consigliere della Fondazione Carige, dove è stato nominato in quota centrodestra.

Il sindaco di Sanremo Maurizio Zoccarato (Pdl) ha scritto ai dirigenti scolastici degli istituti operanti sul territorio comunale di sua competenza invitandoli ad apporre il crocefisso laddove già non ci fosse, rispondendo in questa maniera a chi invece vuole levarli. «Ho chiesto con cortesia un gesto da parte di tutti gli istituti scolastici – ha affermato Zoccarato -. Non è un obbligo, ma mi auguro che questa mia richiesta sia presa in considerazione dalle scuole di Sanremo. È una forte idea di libertà, che per me vuol dire che come noi lasciamo apparire le moschee e ci siamo sempre comportati con rispetto verso tutte quelle religioni, dobbiamo anche difendere con convinzione le nostre radici cristiane e non vergognarci di quello che siamo e di quello che rappresenta la nostra storia. Credo che sia un piccolo gesto molto apprezzato dai nostri concittadini». Zoccarato aggiunge: «Ho anche pensato di mettere un crocifisso e la bandiera italiana all’ingresso del Comune, dove mi sono accorto, grazie anche a questa polemica, che mancavano»

Für den Telemarketing-Pionier Günter Greff ist Perinaldo deshalb der ideale Ort, wo die alte Welt auf die neue Welt treffen kann. Er sieht das Kleinod zwischen dem Tal des Rio Merdanzo, einem Zufluß des Nervia, und dem Tal des Flusses Verbone als Knowledge Village, um sich mit der neuen Zeitrechnung des Internetzeitalters auseinander zu setzen.

Bei einem Social Web-Workshop in seinem Klausurhotel La Riana kam es zu einem Erfahrungsaustausch über die neuen Regeln des Marketings. Man könne sicherlich auch heute noch einiges von den Veteranen des Marketings lernen, so Greff. Allerdings gelte das umgekehrt in noch stärkerem Maße. In der Webwelt des Long Tail, von Youtube, Twitter oder Facebook würden die Methoden der klassischen Werbung und des Marketings mit ihren millionenschweren Budgets an die Auftragsarbeiten für mitteralterliche Porträtgemälde erinnern.

„Die marktschreierische Einbahnkommunikation hat keine Daseinsberechtigung mehr. Heute muss sich ein Unternehmen dem Gespräch des Marktes stellen und genau zuhören, was Konsumenten zu sagen haben. Das kann man am Abmahn-Gau von Jack Wolfskin sehr gut ablesen. Also ist es höchste Zeit, die Organisation des Unternehmens, von PR, Marketing, Kundenservice und Produkt-Innovationen radikal zu hinterfragen, sich nicht vom Alltag treiben zu lassen, sondern abgeschottet von der Hektik des täglichen Geschäftes auf neue Gedanken zu kommen“, so Greff. Man könne das auch als Klausur bezeichnen. Das seien jene Räumlichkeiten im Kloster, wo sich Ordensangehörige zurückziehen können. „Genau das gelingt in Perinaldo. Es verbinde Mittelalter und Moderne“, sagt Greff. Um das Jahr 1000 erwarb der Graf Rinaldo di Ventimiglia das antike Villam Junchi, um eine neue Burg zu bauen.

Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde Perinaldo in den Krieg zwischen die Piemontesen mit den Genuesen verwickelt. Es ist nicht genau bekannt, ob Cassini hier geboren wurde, mit Sicherheit hat er jedoch in der Villa der Maraldi gelebt und gearbeitet, und diese Familie setzte sein Werk mit Giacomo Filippo und Gian Domenico fort. In derselben Villa hielten sich auch Napoleon und der General Massena auf.

Die Pfarrkirche San Nicola aus dem Jahre 1489 wurde während der Barockzeit umgebaut. Das Gemälde “Tela delle Anime”, das der Schule von Guercino zugeschrieben wird, wurde im Jahre 1672 von Cassini gespendet. Die Landkirche della Visitazione ist besser bekannt als die Wallfahrtskirche “Poggio dei rei”, da zu diesem Wallfahrtsort traditionell viele Büßer kommen.

Das Gebiet ist zu 40 Prozent von Olivenhainen bewachsen, deren Kultivierung von Franziskanermönchen eingeführt wurde, die im Jahre 1640 das Kloster Sant’Antonio (heute Sitz eines Observatoriums und eines astronomischen Museums) gründeten, und es waren auch die Mönche, welche die Kultivierung der Olivenart von Taggia einführten. Sehr weit verbreitet ist hier auch die Blumengärtnerei. Die Höhenzüge sind bedeckt mit Kastanien, Pinien und Buchen, weiter abwärts in Richtung zum Meer überwiegt dann die Macchia Mediterranea. Der Wanderweg zwischen Apricale und Dolceacqua ist hervorragend für die Liebhaber des Trekking geeignet und es gibt auch sehr viele ausgeschilderte Wege, die zum Befahren mit dem Mountain Bike geeignet sind, wie zum Beispiel von Soldano nach Dolceacqua, vorbei an den Ruinen des Turms von Alpicella. Die Weinberge liegen im Anbaugebiet des Rossese mit dem Qualitätssiegel DOC.

Es sei also kein Zufall, so Günter Greff, dass die Region so viele Menschen verzaubert. So rühmte Giovanni Battista Panizza das extrem milde, außerordentlich gesunde und für Kranke so heilkräftige Winterklima an der durch die Ligurischen Alpen vor rauhen Winden aus dem Norden abgeschirmten Riviera, so schilderte Ruffini in seinem Roman „Doctor Antonio“ die wilde Welt der etwa vom Colle di Tenda im Westen bis zum Colle di Cadiboni im Osten sich hinziehenden Gebirgskette und dazu als Kontrast die bezaubernde Schönheit und die selbst im Winter üppige Blumenfülle längs der Küste, in deren Lob bald viele Besucher einstimmen sollten.

Auch Guy de Maupassant äußerte sich enthusiastisch: „Der Zug zockelte durch diesen göttlichen Garten, dieses Paradies von Rosen, durch diesen Wald von Orangen und Zitronen, die zur gleichen Zeit weiße Blüten und goldene Früchte tragen, durch dieses Reich der Düfte, diese Heimat der Blumen, entlang dieser wundervollen Küste“.

   Grazie ai commenti di Mariuccia di Brescia, Sandro di Roma e Andrea di Milano, che ci segnalano che in Google Earth e altri collegamenti su Internet, il nome dell’Albergo Barrio Latino e indirettamente , delle Suites Caraibiche Andre Ha, e’ stato vincolato a una struttura nella zona piu’ lontana dall’area  turistica di Playa del Carmen, da quello che possiamo capire,  denominata Posada Picalu .

    Dobbiamo smentire quanto sopra e auguriamo un pronto successo ai nuovi arrivati ai quali chiediamo di sviluppare un marketing onesto ed indipendente che senz’altro dara’ frutti nel tempo,  soprattutto quando l’informazione data al cliente coincide con i servizi resi.

Il problema rifiuti umilia la Provincia d’Imperia.

DA IL CENTRO IL QUOTIDIANO D’ABRUZZO

Le cause del crollo della Casa dello studente, secondo la procura, partono dall’epoca della costruzione nel 1965 e arrivano ai giorni nostri con le recenti ristrutturazioni. Questa la ragione per la quale tra i 15 indagati ci sono gli esecutori degli ultimi lavori, ma anche 4 persone decedute in anni lontani, compreso chi lo realizzò. Due gli indagati, infine, per il crollo del Convitto nazionale.

La casa dello studente de L’Aquila è stata costruita nel 1965.

La nostra scuola elementare è stata costruita nel 1960.

Entrambe erano state fatte con calcestruzzo d’infima qualità.

La Casa dello Studente de L’Aquila ha fatto 8 morti, c’è stato un terremoto.

La nostra scuola non ha fatto nessun morto, non c’è stato il terremoto.

Chi ora, per rispondere a logiche strumentali politiche, attacca la nostra Amministrazione per aver chiuso dall’oggi al domani la scuola elementare di Arma sappia che stà disonorando il ricordo dei bimbi morti a San Giuliano di Puglia, del ragazzo morto a Rivoli nel liceo Darwin e, per ultimo, dei 8 ragazzi morti nel crollo della Casa dello Studente di Aquila.

Non si può rimanere indifferenti a vita.
L’INDIFFERENZA è il cancro della nostra Società.
