Anyone who follows P. Rod’s skating should be able to see that he’s been killing it over the past year. His progression has skyrocketed and now it seems there’s some real competition for Nyjah, who competed with an injured knee this weekend. At the championships next month, we’ll see if it was just the knee that prevented Nyjah from winning or if P. Rod’s skill has really gotten that much better.

We knew that Dyrdek was a BIG fan of country music, but he told us his enthusiasm for the genre is off a little due to a failed relationship. At least he indicated that it ended like a classic country song with lots of tears and heartache. Rob’s even thinking about writing a country song about SLS someday. The 37-year-old entrepreneur, who has competed for over 20 years is bringing 24 of the sport’s newest stars to the Jobing.com Arena this Saturday and Sunday to compete and  try to become one of 10 finalists in the Aug. 28 championship. The band is best known for its hit single “We Are Young” featuring Janelle Monáe. “We Are Young” reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts, becoming the first alternative song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” in 2008. “We Are Young” , has since been saturating all media including the Chevy Sonic Super Bowl XLVI commercial “Stunt Anthem”, also featuring American pro-skater Rob Dyrdek and rock band OK Go. I would argue that launched them into the awareness of mainstream music listeners. They are touring now and you can catch them at venues such as Bonnaroo in Tennessee, Summerfest in Milwaukee, and Lollapalooza

Their second single from Some Nights -the title track-has caught on like wild-fire. I wouldn’t call their songs happy, but they are like their name says fun. The band formed after the breakup of the band Format. I am happy that they formed under the fun name because as far as I am concerned fun is swell.

Nyjah Huston is in a league of his own clearly, and he has been since he was a boy. His tricks are so clean, all the time.

Street League presents the 2012 Monster Energy Award. At every stop of Street League 2012 the highest scored trick or run of the day is given the Monster Energy Award and $10,000. The skaters with the highest single scores in each section are also given $5,000 each. In Ontario, California it was Nyjah Huston in the Best Trick Section with a Caballerial Kick Flip Backside Lipslide for a 9.8 who took home the Monster Energy Award. The highest Run Section score also went to Nyjah with an 9.2 and in the Big Section it was Chaz Ortiz with a Backside Tailslide Big Spin for an 8.9.

Big skater, huge MTV personality and general master of awesomness Rob Dyrdek has added another string to his bow with a new and real nice sunglasses range called IVI (pronounced eye-vee).
