I was flipping thru an old copy of Oprah’s Magazine recycling pictures for the volunteer ESL class I start teaching next week and I ran across this awesome little reading list in her Reading Room feature. Now, I’m a fan of Rob Morrow from Northern Exposure era, Numb3rs is a little mod for me, but I’ve liked the episodes I’ve seen. His reading list, howevah, is awesome!

I’ll number these books so that it seems more drumroll -y.

1) Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion – I have not ventured into this book. My friends that have read it have all lost practical perspective on life from reading it and since I’m prone to do that anyway, I’m gonna leave this one alone. I imagine it’s a life changer, the caliber of anything by OSHO, or Tolle, or Coehlo, or Miguel & Jose Luis Ruiz.

2) Sanford Meisner on Acting – This is a great book. In fact, my new writing partner is new to writing screenplays and there are only a few good books on screenwriting. It won’t take her long to get through those, the woman has a PHd for crying out loud. I didn’t think about this book. I think I should have had her read it first. It’s all about being an expression or an action and if you can access that as a writer, you have access to a screenplay the likes of As Good as it Gets and Good Will Hunting. With Meisner you can approach a scene or scenario or hell a life event ‘as if’ you were ten feet tall, or, ‘as if’ there were two doves living in your heart, such that your acting is fundamentally based on whether you can abundantly generate dynamics that move the action of the scene forward. There are great life lessons in this book.

3) The Moon and Sixpence – I’m going to to be honest, the only books I’ve read in the last year are business books and vegan cookbooks. I haven’t had any interest in even looking at what might be good to read, so, I think, based on the caliber of the rest of the books on this list, I might make this my next read. Somerset Maugham. Wow. “How Cleaassy.”

4) A History of God – This is a must read and should be mandatory adult reading for Americans, lol. The Reading Room article has such a great quote by Rob Morrow I’m just going to lift it. “… It traces the way humans have created divine narratives and how the beliefs inspired by those narratives have enabled us to survive. [This book] helped me put God into perspective and made me think about my daughter, specifically how I’m going to help this person along in her life.” I love that! Being a rather awful, yet humble Christian, I’d never surmise that I could put God into perspective, but I value all levels of greater, wider, higher, deeper levels of acknowledgment, understanding, discernment and distinction. I think ya can’t go wrong when ya go looking. You may not get it right, but you’re not gonna get it wrong. I need to read this book again. Very cool.

5) The Agony and The Ecstasy – I read this book at 25. I was much smarter, more empathic and much brighter then. It blew me away. The passion and the ‘100% all in’ approach to life that Irving Stone gave his characterization of Michelangelo, breathtaking. In no way was this man’s ego at play over being an artist. He may have had ego about technique or other things, but artistry was his soul. Irving Stone built the entire book on one idea, that Michelangelo saw the statue in the stones he cut. That they were already there for him. He was just following the call. That often, all he could think about was actualizing the visions that he saw. Irving Stone writes this character as a man who WAS his purpose. He looked at other choices, but his spirit had no choice. It’s funny as I write this I hear Frank Sinatra’s I did it My Way in the back of my head. Lol. Stone’s Michelangelo didn’t have that much ego, but he did it his way anyway. The title is the book. Really being willing to live the Agony and the Ecstasy of the choices you make in life. This is such an amazing story. I don’t think there is another book like it.

“Naczelny diagnosta szpitala Princeton-Plainsboro Gregory House jest dupkiem. Jest też mizantr

“Naczelny diagnosta szpitala Princeton-Plainsboro Gregory House jest dupkiem. Jest też mizantropem, seksistą i chamem”. To cytat.

To szkoda!

Pamiętacie Jarząbka gadającego do szafy?

Zmusił fanów motoryzacji do przeczytania książki, swojej.

A powinno. Ja tu widzę protopalstę, najgenialniejszy przykład brytyjskiego humoru, takiego – z którego Laurie mógł czerpać garściami. I pewnie to robił. Drodzy Państwo, gdyby nie John Cleese – spiritus movens Monty Pythona, prawdopodobnie nie byłoby House’a. To przecież właśnie TEN humor, też żart, ten sarkazm, ta złośliwość. I ta inteligencja. Aż trudno uwierzyć, że kochają go Amerykanie. Ale House to właśnie taki Cleese w wersji “light”.

Słowo na koniec.

Sprawę zostawiam socjologom, psychologom i … lekarzom.

Dzięki Ci Hugh, że przywróciłeś do świadomości muzycznej takie The Who! Chociaż to! Stara muzyka wraca poprzez ekran do zupełnie nowego pokolenia.

Friday

ABC – Ugly Betty returns on October 9th, but it certainly doesn’t look like ABC has much faith in it. The show got much better toward the end of last season, but it can’t be a good thing that the network put the show on hiatus when it should have been building toward its finale, then banished it to Friday night ratings hell for the new season. It’s almost like they’re looking for a reason to cancel it.

CBS – I’m an unashamed fan of Numb3rs, and I think we need more procedurals with nerdy subject matter. David Krumholtz has been one of my favorites ever since I saw 10 Things I Hate About You (“I’m thinking of getting a Tercel.”) back in 1999. I think the best part of the show during the last season was the way the whole team started to get in on the act of using simple analogies to explain complex mathematical problems. Although, the series certainly took a serious turn with Don getting stabbed, Amita getting kidnapped, and Charlie popping the question. I’m looking to finding out Amita’s answer when Numb3rs premieres tonight at 10/9c.

FOX – It certainly felt like Dollhouse just barely did enough to get renewed. I thought the show was at least twice as good by the end of the season, and after watching the unaired “Epitaph One” episode a few weeks ago it was evident the show is capable of even more. I hope they achieve it during season two, which premieres tonight.

HBO – Real Time with Bill Maher has a permanent spot on my Friday night grid as long as he stays on the air. This is some of the most insightful satire anywhere, and nearly justifies the monthly charge for HBO all on its own.

SYFY – If you like science fiction or for that matter, writing in general, you should definitely be reading Whatever, John Scalzi’s blog. Scalzi is a great writer and happens to be a creative consultant for the newest member of the Stargate franchise, Stargate Universe, which premieres October 2nd. Based on his posts, Scalzi likes the finished product, and that’s enough for me. Also, last year’s new sci-fi treat Sanctuary returns on October 9th.

STANDPOINT

I got nothing to report today. All of this medical treatment has turned my sleeping patterns into much of a debacle.

Some things are in the works, though.

Is 2009 the year of celebrity deaths? Maybe. Maybe not.

What I’ve figured out about my relationship with the suburbs. And, no, all you Facebook friends, it’s got nothing to do with all the damn spiders.

Lastly, I’m working on a piece about the modern dating scene and I think more than a few of you will be curious to see what I’ve discovered.

Until then, come back for some more.

QUOTATION

It’s so much easier for me to talk about my life in front of two thousand people than it is one-on-one. I’m a real defensive person, because if you were sensitive in my neighborhood you were something to eat. ← Richard Pryor

TUNE

Watching the SNL rerun this past Saturday, I came to the conclusion everything Green Day has done in the past several years is just simply mediocre. I mean, “Jesus of Suburbia” (Great lyrics: “And there’s nothing wrong with me/This is how I’m supposed to be/In a land of make believe/That don’t believe in me.”) is a really great song but I’m done thinking bands who reshape its music to appeal to the lowest common denominator (AKA the musically lazy who make up just about every dim-witted person who make “American Idol” a runaway hit show). I’m here to tell you “J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Felva)” was the last truly good song Green Day released. Disagree? Too bad. You’re exactly who I’m talking about.

GALLIMAUFRY

→ Something that’s truly sad about…well, life in general…sometimes is when you find program on television that truly appeals to you. It’s smart and funny and entertaining. Comedy Central used to air this game show called “Beat the Geeks.” And I loved it. So did my buddy Tim. We would watch it for hours On-Demand. But then it went away. And the world was reduced accordingly.

→ Often, I’ve wondered just how many days Bill Murray’s character spent running around Punxsutawney in Groundhog Day. Luckily, someone took the time to figure it all out. In what may be too much detail.

→ My buddy Dave Frees, a solidly good guy in his own right, has a son in Victor’s Lament. Check out the music. Kind of a Mighty Mighty Bosstones vibe to it, but probably better. Check out “Living for Today.”

I went shopping with my mom today and bought a dress. Ah, mundane details. Although, this is the sec

I went shopping with my mom today and bought a dress. Ah, mundane details. Although, this is the second dress I’ve bought since I was six that was not for a violin recital.

Dresses are so freeing, and there is so much irony in that statement.

I’m working on Sushmita chapter nine. There’s a sentence that hasn’t been heard in a while. Is it sad that I actually have to consult the PotC 1 script to write this thing now, whereas only five months ago I could have written the script off the top of my head? Yes, but I have to get past PotC!!!

It doesn’t look good, for one thing, when you tell someone you want to be director, and you say, “Yes, my favorite movie is Pirates of the Caribbean,” because they immediately take you for a fangirl.

For one, I am not a fangirl…I just happen to know that Johnny Depp weighs 150 lbs and currently lives aboard his yacht, the Vajoliroja, which is a play off of “The Jolly Roger” and is composed of the first two letters of his family member’s names. Not impressed? He was also married to Lori-Anne Allison in the 80’s for three years, and she was older than him. I smell a cougar. Hopefully she was nothing like Joyce.

“…Hiiii Miiiiyaaaaa….”

I’ll stop now because I feel like I’m exploiting him, and if he ever read this he’d bite my nose off. Or ignore me for the rest of my life, something that, while it will probably happen, I hope it will never occur. I apologize, Johnny Depp; you were wonderful in “Ed Wood”. That’s one of the few movies where I’ve had to remind myself that I was watching Johnny Depp.

What now, what now. “Numb3rs” was on last night but every time I see uglycooldude I remember the beach montage from “Private Resort”. Oh, Rob Morrow. You will never live down the one movie you did with Johnny Depp when you were both unknown, and also the fact that you named your daughter Tu. Say it. Out loud. “You’re impossibly fast.” No, it’s more like “If you seek Amy.”

Speaking of old Johnny Depp costars who somewhat disappeared, “Tetro” is Francis Ford Coppola’s newest film, and his most personal. And guess who it stars? “Breast, Axel. Big beautiful breasts”. Yes, Vincent Gallo, how did you guess? “Arizona Dream”, why dost thou inspire me so? Johnny Depp himself wasn’t that great in it. Scandalous statement, I know, but there were a lot of Johnny Depp habits in it. Like how when his character gets angry he does a lot of swooping hand gestures and head tilting.

Sorry if I ruined every film he’s ever done for you except “Ed Wood”, CatCF, and PotC. And “Corpse Bride”, but that wasn’t physically him.

Although, he once said that if there isn’t a part of you in a role then you’re lying, not acting. So maybe I’ll forgive him, because it’s not like many people are better.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to “Tetro”, because oh goodness it’s Vincent Gallo, and it’s also the first Francis Ford Coppola movie I will see. Scandalous, coming from a wannabe director. Please don’t shun me.

Also, when they analyze the bound-to-be hugemongous ticket sales for TIoDP, they’d better not think that we’re all there to see Heath Ledger, and forget Johnny Depp’s loyal slightly massive army of fangirls.

The fatty in the sidecar was found to be Michael Rispoli. In no way is fatty a derogatory statement.

The fatty in the sidecar was found to be Michael Rispoli. In no way is fatty a derogatory statement. Huzzah to Michael Rispoli for being the fatty in Johnny Depp’s sidecar. Is it just me or does he look kind of like “Cry-Baby” in those pictures?

I finally watched “Private Resort”, and twas scandalous, obviously. But I laughed at uglycooldude from “Numb3rs” as he frolicked on the beach with his true love for seven hours. I guess it was funny in that “Pink Panther” way, in the dorky 80’s comedy way.

The struggle against my obsession has returned. No…

School has been taking over again. Frank J. Pan didn’t show up at my last job shadow meeting, and Billy Crudup sits down.

Also, if your last name is Road, Mountains, or Relationship, please name your child Rocky. Please. I’ll be your best friend and bring a plate of burritos to your house.

I’d also like to add Sheldon Alan Silverstein to my barbecue invitee list. Huzzah. Never mind that he is dead.

Ah, Shel Silverstein. Your name is Sheldon, just like Sheldon Jeffrey Sands. Sheldon, which reminds me of an Australian boy, and singing in the choir of that one church I used to go to where I felt like a herded cow. I will not mention that most people in this town go to that church.

I’m watching the Cerritos Talent Show and there’s this act called “Ayer”. They’re dancing to the song “No air”…haha Sushi you’re so funny. Anyway, this act is pretty conceptual. That’s one way to put “it doesn’t make sense”, or “it was conceived under the influence”.

Today in Career Development Class we watched this video where a man talks about how when people are dyslexic they overcompensate in the right brain, and I immediately thought of MIKA. Hahah in the Talent Show some girl named Mika was singing and I shunned her…after hearing her voice.

Alrighty, I’ll be back as soon as I can. Huzzah.

But wait! Amber is dancing. Dot com…oy vey, I’m not lying. Spread the nose!

Lately the girl-who-always-has-the-latest-stuff-of-Johnny-Depp has been bombarding my youtube homepa

Lately the girl-who-always-has-the-latest-stuff-of-Johnny-Depp has been bombarding my youtube homepage with “Johnny on set of Rum Diaries!” and “Johnny shirtless in Puerto Rico!”. Just last summer, this would have been the happiest time of my life, but I’m a bit irritated.

Or I was, until I saw that the 2nd trailer for “Public Enemies” had just come out. And it is more soap opera-y than the first. The first trailer was all about the action. It yelled, “Oh my gosh! It’s Johnny Depp with a tommy gun! Look how awesome he is!”

And in the middle, he suddenly grew facial hair, and I knew what a good actor he was.

This new trailer makes it seem like everything John Dillinger did was for love. We’ll have to wait to see which perspective the movie will come from. Seriously, check it out. Beside the Johnny Depp thing, this movie seems like it’ll be really good. Okay…it is the Johnny Depp thing, but someone should come watch it with me. Any movie buddies?

I’d just like to point out how awesome it is that Johnny Depp doesn’t respond to his own name when he’s in character. This is probably something that’s simple for actors, but I would imagine that if I played a character called “Grapes” it would be disconcerting. In fact, when I hear the real-life counterpart to Grapes mentioned in school I already get a jolt. It’s unreal to me. Anyway, in “Arizona Dream” Axel’s buddy Paul is like, “You think anyone f*cking touches Johnny Depp’s face?” and Johnny is sitting two rows behind, not a twitch on his face. And in “Public Enemies”, Marion Cotillard is like, “Johnny!” and again, no twitch. If there is a twitch, it is well hidden by the shadowy shots.

I just found out that uglycooldude from Numb3rs, Don, was in “Private Resort” with Johnny Depp in the 80’s. One of the few Johnny Depp movies I had no interest in during my obsession, where they go to a hotel and try to scandalize women.

Sad how he ends up on “Numb3rs” and Johnny Depp ends up in PotC. Well, who’s the one that named their daughter Tu Morrow? Karma is a chienne.

Same with the guys from “21 Jump Street”. Occasionally I see Holly Robinson Peet in the Colgate commercial, and the other day -

Oh my. I forgot to tell you – at my last job shadow the guy showed me some commercials by his favorite director, and I swear the kungfu guy was Dustin Nguyen. I know I should have been paying attention to the shots and the art direction and whatnot, but I spent the time staring at the guy’s face trying to figure out if it was him or not.

Oh goodness. A quick google search reveals that yes, it is him. Huzzah.

Spring break is the last great vacation of the school year. At the end of this fleeting week, my brain’s going to have the mental capacity of my thigh – only enough to make music with my fat if commanded to do so.

I’m going to be spending it doing homework.

And will the readers of this blog please raise their hands? Or, just comment. My stats are going through the roof (I exaggerate and flatter myself) and I wonder if it’s just hit-and-misses. Does anyone besides Miya read this somewhat regularly…

Wow if no one comments it will be sad. I may be forced to comment anonymously so this doesn’t become a tragedy.

PS. Unwrapping chocolate eggs without tearing the wrapper makes me happy. And chocolate looks sweaty.

This Saturday, April 4 from 10 pm – midnight on 89.3 KPCC, L.A. Theatre Works’ The Play’s the Thing will present Mizlansky / Zilinsky by Jon Robin Baitz starring Nathan Lane, Paul Sand, Richard Masur, Rob Morrow, Grant Shaud, Julie Kavner, Harry Shearer, and Kurtwood Smith.

It’s early-1980s Los Angeles, where the glamour of its golden years has faded to a cheap veneer. Cunning Hollywood producer Davis Mizlansky and his nervous partner Sam Zilinsky are the archetypal Hollywood con men. They’re trying to hatch one last grand scheme – but the IRS is trying to cash a reality check. What happens when the art of the deal turns into a battle for the ultimate double-cross?

On Netflix, I’ve been watching Northern Exposure. In fact, just the other day on my other blog

On Netflix, I’ve been watching Northern Exposure. In fact, just the other day on my other blog I wrote about how much I enjoy the show.

Then I saw the episode “Northern Lights“.

Before I continue, here’s Northern Exposure in a nutshell. Rob Morrow plays Dr. Joel Fleischman, a neurotic Jewish doctor from New York (who’s, no doubt, related to Woody Allen) who finishes medical school and learns that due to a clause in his contract that he never bothered to read carefully, he’s obligated to serve the State of Alaska for four years as a doctor to pay off his student loan. So, this doctor, after unsuccessfully trying to get out of his contract, reluctantly sets up shop in the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska. It’s a town of quirky people, and he’s indeed a “fish out of water”.

The show’s brilliantly written and well acted, but I found myself disappointed by the episode “Northern Lights”. Joel prepares for a much-needed two week vacation, as stipulated in his contract. However, Alaska informs him the vacation is in effect cancelled since they could not find a doctor to take his place for the two weeks.

Angry, Joel withholds medical services until he’s given a vacation. The town then sues him for breaching his contract and he’s subjected to living homeless (he’s locked out of his residence) until he relents and returns to work.

This episode seemed very poorly written for several reasons:

1. Nobody seems to notice that Alaska is the party originally in breach of contract for failing to provide Joel with a vacation. Yes, Joel is withholding medical services, but only because the State of Alaska has failed to honor its side of his contract.

2. Instead of withholding medical services, Joel no doubt would’ve instead contacted an attorney from New York or Mike, the local attorney that he’s developed an odd bond with. Joel longs to return to New York and was upset when told by Mike a few episodes back that Alaska was justified to add another year of service onto his contract.

3. Instead of the Cicely powers-that-be banging the phones to get a doctor there to let Joel take his vacation, they take it out on him by depriving him of his place and his personal belongings. Nobody in the town offers to let Joel stay with them, and his assistant Marilyn only visits him to ask if they should reorder a particular medical supply.

4. Mike, a hypochondriac who’s convinced the air’s unfit to breathe and the water’s unfit to drink, had been receiving medical treatment (howbeit reluctantly) from Joel. But he takes on the town’s case against Joel. He then claims to Maggie he’s found a case that gives Cicely an airtight case against Joel. Wrong. It amazes me how an “attorney” like Mike or a well-read man like Maurice don’t realize that they’re in danger of losing their doctor because Alaska is failing to honor Joel’s contract.

I realize these are just TV shows, but there were just so many implausible things about this episode. It just seemed far too far out of character for the characters on the show, a sign of a risky story idea that turns into bad writing instead of a really great episode. Joel mentions how a doctor from a nearby town can provide emergency medical treatment…gee whiz! Would it have been so troublesome for the townfolk to save the run-of-the-mill medical issues until the Good Doctor got back and went to the other doctor for the important issues.

A friend of mine once told me he liked this show a lot but that it began to lose its way. Makes me wonder if this episode’s a good example.

The celebrities listed below this introduction were chosen because they have either been recently in

The celebrities listed below this introduction were chosen because they have either been recently in the news or were run across in my non-scientific Internet search. A short explanation is given about some of their comments or actions in favor of Obama but please take it with a large grain of salt as it is in no way complete. In case someone asks, of course there are a small number of stars that support the John McCain / Sarah Palin ticket like Sylvester Stallone, John Voight, Ted Nugent and Charlie Daniels.

It is no secret that most Hollywood and music stars are liberals and have become a reliable source of campaign cash for Democratic candidates. So far the music and entertainment industry has given around $ 15 million to the Obama presidential effort and donated $ 3.4 million to the Hillary Clinton campaign. How did John McCain fare you ask? His campaign has received around $1 million.

Not included are many rap and hip-hop stars like 50 Cent, Chamillionare, Scarface, etc., because around 95% of their community supports Obama’s candidacy. To list them all would take forever. They support Obama by using clothes with Obama’s image on them on stage, by putting up Obama or Obama/Biden banners at their concerts, etc. Almost all speak favorably of the candidate and hope the more outspoken members of their community tone down their support for fear of alienating voters that do not understand what their music is about. Some artists have said they support and will vote for Obama because he is one of them. Others say he is the most qualified for the job with race having nothing to do with their decision. To say that they are excited about this election is an understatement!

Below the stars, more or less in alphabetical order, listed by their last name. Looking for Oprah? She’s under W for Winfrey. How about Jay-Z? He’s under C for Shawn Carter. Homer Simpson? Try S for Homer Simpson. Yes, even Homer tries to vote for Obama.

Enjoy. Or not.

The ad poked fun at Obama because of his comments to tune up cars and inflate their tires to make the US independent of foreign oil. Browne has been a liberal all his life and thought that if his music was used in Republican ads the public might think he endorses McCain. Since 2004 he has contributed at least $ 4,300 to Obama’s coffers. After the lawsuit was filed the ORp pulled the ad. Browne is asking for around $75,000 in damages. September 22, 2008 his song “Looking East” forms part of the album “Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement” the Obama/Biden campaign is selling over the Internet for $ 24.99.

Oprah Winfrey: On September 5, 2008 the Drudge Report said that the show is receiving a lot of emails asking that Sarah Palin be on. Half of the staff really wants Palin to appear but that Oprah and a couple of her people do not because it might hurt Obama. In 2007 continues the Drudge Report, conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was not allowed to go on when he was promoting his book. Later on September 5, 2008 Oprah stated to TMZ that she would love to have Palin on, after the election, as the staff had not discussed the Palin appearance and she had made the decision not have her show become a platform for candidates. Oprah has said about Obama: That would be my favorite guy, ….I know him well enough to believe in his moral authority. And that is the number one reason why I am supporting him, ..my Senator, my favorite Senator, and my choice. He appeared twice on Oprah, in January 2005 and October 2006, before she gave him her formal endorsement. On September 25, 2006 Oprah, on Larry King Live, said she hoped Obama ran for President. May 2007 Oprah formally endorses Obama for President. September 8, 2007 Oprah hosted an Obama fundraiser for 1,500 guests, each one donating $ 2,300 to his campaign. From November 2007 to February 2008 Oprah campaigned with Obama in Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire and in California. Many opine it was Oprah that introduced Obama to white American women and because of her active support suffered a huge backlash that continues to these days. August 2008 she was at the DNC in Denver praising Obama’s acceptance speech. September 2008 two University of Maryland economists say Oprah’s endorsement has given Obama approximately 1 million votes he would not have gotten otherwise. September 2008 she asked her viewers to support Senate bill 1738 proposed by Senator Joe Biden and endorsed by Senator Barack Obama. September 2008 Oprah again said her staff had not brought up having Sarah Palin on her show but would like to have her on after the election. She has donated at least $ 2,300 to the Obama campaign.

CBS confirmed today that net execs have signed onto the production of 22 more episodes of the canceled television series, Northern Exposure, now titled North3rn Exposur3. Net execs say the selection of vice prez nominee Sarah Palin played a large part in the upcoming production.

North3rn Exposur3 2.0 is set to air later this Fall.

“We looked at Palin, and the reaction to her, and thought “how did we miss “moose hotdogs? Snow mobiles? Wasilla? ANWAR? Polar bears?” said one executive. “There’s obviously more material out there for Dr. Joel Fleischman and other characters I can’t remember to go after. I think Alaska was a state when we produced the show, but now, it’s on the map.”

The Emmy award winning series is set to begin production late next week because everyone involved with the show, especially the cast, are free to work.

“I haven’t worked in television in years,” Rob Morrow said. “Oh, wait – I’m in the show Numb3rs. I forgot. Well, I know the others haven’t because they all work at the same Target store on Sepulveda Boulevard in the valley.”

I was watching Regis and Kelly this morning, and they said there are names that are illegal in New Z

I was watching Regis and Kelly this morning, and they said there are names that are illegal in New Zealand to name your child. If you remember my post about Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s choice of baby names, I’m a fairly traditional girl, and think there’s a big difference between unique and strange!! A couple, in New Zealand, had tried to name their child “4real”, because when they saw the ultrasound, they realized it was “for real”, and now a judge has deemed it illegal because no names are allowed to start with a number, and because they ban any names that may be offensive, in order to “prevent too much imagination”!!! Other names in New Zealand that are illegal:

Fish and Chips

Yeah Detroit (Now the Michigander side of me would not be opposed to this one, but maybe lose the Yeah)

Keenan Got Lucy

Sex Fruit

I did some looking around, and you’d be surprised to know that the Germans regulate what you can name your child, saying it must be reflective of the gender of the child and not endanger the well being of the child (if they only regulated ALL celebrities, you know their children will be ridiculed, and probably scarred from it). All of the baby names must be approved by the German Office of Vital Statistics, and they rely on an international manual of first names, and if they still can’t decide, they may call on a foreign embassy for assistance. There apparently is a fee for registering a name, and should your name be rejected, you could appeal it, but if you lose that, you would be spending more to resubmit a name. They did reject the name “Huckleberry” because in Mark Twain’s novel, Huck was considered an outsider, but “Nemo” is supposedly an acceptable name! In Mexico, the government has tried regulating names, Lluvia (rain) and Azul (blue) have been deemed “improper” and they will only allow “common spellings” of names.

Here is a list of the 20 strangest celebrity baby names, they’re WAAAAY out there!
