El viernes pasado fue una noche muy buena una reunion muy interesante, aunque aun sigo mal de mi garganta y mi voz un tanto afonica es realmente bueno estar con los amigos y compartir un rato de incoherencias por momentos y momentos de buenos temas, que podemos ir desde lo tecnológico, pasando por temas como anime, paginas, videos, libros, peliculas; vaya que si tenemos muchos gustos y muchos temas que compartir con los amigos.
Lo mejor de la noche la visita del buen roberto, su esposa  y el fruto de su amor, que hermoso el niño en serio que si no sere tan expresivo pero me robo una sonrisa, es tan bello ver la vida que inicia, les deseo lo mejor a yo se que si les va super, y con un bebe asi de precioso se que sera mas y mas.
Me hubiera gustado quedarme seguir platicando, comer pizza pero lamentablemente por tener que trabajar al dia siguiente siempre me veo limitado de tiempo en especial los fines de semana, pero realmente disfruto de los fines de semana que platicamos todos, que jugamos por momentos que convivimos con una buena cena, el clima fresco las risas. Una de las mejores noches que pasamos todos juntos.
Lo unico que lamento es no haber tomado fotos creo que quede tan emocionado que se me paso ese pequeño momento, pero realmente estuvo muy padre. Solo queria expresar el excelente viernes que pasamos. Cuidense mis buenos amigos los quiere Waldo.

Every Fall, I reach out to my donor family through Gilberto, older brother to my deceased heart donor, Roberto, with a letter of gratitude.  Yes, organ donation is an anonymous process, but all across the country recipients and donor families make contact in all sorts of coincidences and welcome ways, many eventually agreeing to meet face to face.  I am blessed with having had such an opportunity and thus this at least annual exchange of thanks for my life saved and Gil’s interest in getting an update on how life is continuing with his brother’s heart still beating here in my body now 15 years later (as of Oct 19, 2009).

In his letter Gilberto shares a poem of special meaning from his youth, one that he still remembers these many years later.  With his permission I share it with you here:

Sanremo 38 gradi

 Stasera le luci si sono riaccese non a San Siro bensì nel giardino di Villa Nobel a Sanremo. L’ospite d’onore è Roberto Vecchioni, il Professore della canzone italiana. È con noi in veste di poeta per presentare una raccolta di poesie giovanili Di sogni e d’amore, poesie 1960 1964 Frasinelli. Non è più l’incubo, per sua stessa ammissione, degli studenti medi di greco e latino perché ora è passato all’Università di Pavia dove tiene un corso sulle forme di poesia in musica. Entriamo subito nel merito:

 Professore, cosa pensi della riforma dell’Università e in generale di questa Università?

• Ma io non ho mai amato le riforme perché sono state sbagliate tutte , compresa questa. Su questo sono severo io penso che si debba programmare tantissimo

Una riforma dell’Università. Bisogna anche guardare al futuro, vedere cosa serve alla società. Capire cosa è più importante. Certo non si può indirizzare l’inclinazione di un ragazzo, ma far capire a uno studente se scegli questa facoltà hai poche possibilità, se scegli quella ne hai di più. E poi c’è ancora troppo potere, troppo comando. Troppa irriverenza nei confronti di quelli che sono i veri padroni dell’università, cioè gli studenti. Anche la riforma della scuola non va bene perché non essendoci unità d’Italia, non si riesce ad ottenere un’unità didattica.

 Sì però da parte degli studenti c’è poca contestazione

• È vero. Se ne fregano. Gli studenti sono di 2, 3 categorie, generalmente quelli che tirano a campare per arrivare alla laurea e quelli che invece ci credono veramente e non contestano. E poi ci sono anche quelli che contestano e fanno bene.

• Professore e i giovani?

• Eh! I giovani sono complicati. Non devono essere considerati un target. Pensiamo che siano quelli col telefonino, il sabato sera. La gran parte dei giovani studia la vita e si trova davanti una nuova forma di società di vecchi. Dove non si rischia mai, dove tutti sono xenofobi, si ha paura dell’altro, dello straniero. I giovani sono diversi. Non sono ancora come noi. Ho frequentato circa 5-6000 studenti in 35 anni. Ho assistito ai cambi di generazione. I giovani sono tutti accomunati da un’affettività straordinaria ma che non trova riscontro. Quello che conta sono i fatti perché se vedono che ti sbatti per loro se ne accorgono. La sostanzialità non sono i soldi o un permesso. Non ci sono giovani perfetti o no. Permettiamo loro di commettere i loro errori. Non considerarli dei piccoli uomini perché vivono in una dimensione loro.

• E le donne?

• Mi piacciono le donne in generale. Non è che ero un marpione, però. Mi piace la donna come meraviglia. Tutti i frammenti che mettono a posto, i figli, il lavoro, i sentimenti. 360 gradi di dolore e casino. Noi il potere e basta. Il potere è un principio maschile. La donna riscopre l’universo. È un mistero affascinante.

• L’amore è bello quando fa soffrire perché fa scrivere?

• Ma non è vero!! Assolutamente questa è una fantasia letteraria. Non è vero sempre. Non c’è solo l’amore per una donna. L’amore è un sentimento che va fuori. Ami tutto. l’amore è un modo di porsi. C’è l’amore straordinario di San Francesco. L’amore non è solo il rapporto di coppia.

• E la poesia? Qual è la funzione della poesia oggi?

• La poesia oggi è un progetto per fare e che diventa realtà tutti i giorni. Oggi è nella Merini che meriterebbe il Nobel. Ma è anche dentro Montale per la sua musicalità. Nelle canzoni d’autore, come in quelle di Luigi Tenco che è legato a Sanremo e alla storia del Tenco.

• Roberto, e le parole…?

• Le parole sono come montagne che hanno attraversato i secoli. Trascinano la loro storia. Cominciano coi greci, cambiano significato con i romani. Prendi la parola Bravo, oggi ha un significato che nei secoli è diventato l’opposto. Dante metteva “ Guai a voi anime prave…”

• E anche i Bravi del Manzoni non erano per niente “bravi”. Cos’è per te la nostalgia?

• Beh certo è una realtà straordinaria. Non è regolata da una questione cronologica. Per me è un sentimento attuale. Tutto è presente. Ed è fortissima. È un vivere attuale. È una presenza e poi è la conformazione di chi da un po’ d’arte: non separano la vita in compartimenti. Ce l’hanno tutta comunque davanti. E quindi anche il futuro è sullo stesso piano..

• Qual è la tua Tua canzone preferita?

• Oh. Non c’è. Una mia canzone preferita? No. Non c’è.

• E quale quella scritta da altri?

• Vediamo… La leva calcistica del ’68, di De Gregori, qualcosa di Guccini. Ma io sto pensando anche a qualcosa venuto prima come Vecchio Frac di Modugno, anche cose anche venute prima di me.

• Trenet?

• Certo, certo, allora anche Brel, e Springsteen, Dylan…

Il Professore ha nostalgia di casa. Di poesia. Di donne. Di giovani. Di lezioni. Di versi. E noi lo lasciamo scivolare fuori dal giardino di Villa Nobel. E lo guardiamo un’ultima volta prima che si incammini sulla strada delle parole.

Last week we held the graduation ceremonies for the kindergarten students at Colegio Cristo Nacion (Christ Nation School). Five of the Dreamers were recognized amongst those cutie pies who reached such a momentous milestone. Following are some pictures from the festive night. Já que os problemas de Ilhéus nós sabemos de cor e salteado, vamos então as sugestões, pois quem sabe assim, sensibilizem os corações de mármores dos atuais donatários da nossa cidade. Assim como a Avenida Soares Lopes poderia ser o cartão de visita de Ilhéus, a central de abastecimento do Malhado (CAM) é o centro de congruências de culturas, negócios e pessoas de todas as localidades do município de Ilhéus e região. Pode-se seguramente dizer que na ‘Feira do Malhado’ se encontram significativas amostragens de todas as classes sociais ilheenses, bem com seus costumes, hábitos, linguajares etc. Contudo, diante do que se ver nesse local, a única palavra que pode defini-lo é descaso. Descaso governamental, descaso social, descaso público. O CAM é uma vergonha para os ilheenses e principalmente para os turistas que precisam comprar produtos típicos ou naturais em nossa cidade. A central de abastecimento do Malhado fede, enoja, entristece e menosprezas seus comerciantes, visitantes e clientes. Todo o povo de Ilhéus sabe disso, menos o prefeito e vereadores ilheenses. Ninguém até hoje consegue entender com uma obra tão bem estruturada e otimamente localizada, se transformou num local de degradação social. O CAM tinha e tem tudo para ser um centro comercial de sucesso em nossa cidade. Todavia, – com todo o respeito às pessoas que mercam ou circulam por esse local -, o que se ver no CAM é a vergonha social em toda a amplidão deste termo.

Observada de um avião, a central de abastecimento do Malhado mais parece uma favela de um país em guerra secular. Andar nos seus corredores é o mesmo que se aventurar pelos nefastos becos das cidades medievais. Nas áreas de cargas e descargas, pessoas, urubus, cachorros e vermes convivem no mesmo chão sujo, imundo e inumano. Os Box’s não têm uniformidades e mais parecem tendas de mascates do século XVII. Higiene é palavra excluída do seu vocabulário. Segurança não há em nenhum local e hoje o CAM é o campeão de ocorrências policiais da cidade de Ilhéus. Diante desse triste quadro, devemos nos perguntar: o que fazer com o CAM? A resposta parece simplória, mas se bem executada dará ótimo resultado. Essa resposta é uma faxina geral.

Assim como se toma um purgante para limpar o corpo, se deve fazer uma faxina geral na central de abastecimento do Malhado. A prefeitura municipal deve encabeçar esse mutirão e definir que o CAM ficará fechado por 03 dias (segunda, terça e quarta-feira). Sendo que na verdade, no domingo anterior, a partir das 20 horas se inicia essa limpeza geral ininterrupta. Os comerciantes locais sabem muito bem que 03 dias com os seus estabelecimentos fechados para esse propósito não lhe darão nenhum prejuízo que não possa ser recompensado pelos resultados obtidos. Eu tenho certeza que a maioria deles se engajará nessa proposta e, diante da limpeza geral do CAM, também darão novas caras aos seus locais de trabalhos e sustentos.

O ex-prefeito Antônio Olímpio quando construiu o CAM jamais acreditou que o local iria chegar nesse ponto de degradação social. Em 1981 quando se demoliu o Mercado Municipal de Ilhéus que ficava na Avenida Dois de Julho e transferiu a sua feira para o CAM, se acreditava que essa obra seria um marco para a evolução econômica e social de Ilhéus. O CAM precisa sim de reformas estruturais e conceituais em todo o seu entorno. Contudo, nada é mais importante, crucial, imediato e urgente de que essa faxina geral. Mesmo que existam projetos e mais projetos para reestruturar a central de abastecimento do Malhado, eu acredito que o mais importante é cuidar do melhor projeto de Deus que é o ser humano e esse, como tal, circula, comercializa e muitos até vivem literalmente dentro do CAM, em Ilhéus.

Eu sei que essa minha sugestão não é fácil para ser implantada. Porém não é impossível. Mas o mais difícil será fazer os governantes ilheenses entenderem que eleitores são seres humanos e esses merecem no mínimo respeito e dignidade. Coisas, por sinal, que não se ver em nenhum canto da atual central de abastecimento do Malhado.

Recently I’ve been reading the work of Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño and it is, as everyone has been saying, brilliant. Since his premature death 6 years ago at the age of 50 he has been causing quite a stir in literary circles across the world and has been compared to writers such as Nobel prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez (although whether that is just because of the latin american link I do not know).

2666 was Bolaño’s final, and arguably finest, work. The story remains unfinished as sadly Bolaño could not complete it before he died. Nontheless it is being called a masterpiece by many critics and it is one of the most brilliant books I’ve ever read. Divided into six parts, the story (or stories) unfold over three different continents with many different characters, all of whom are somehow linked to each other and the unusual amount of deaths taking place in an around the fictional city of Santa Teresa in the (very real) state of Sonora in Northern Mexico.

His other famous novel, The Savage Detectives, is a fictionalised account of Bolaño’s own youth in Mexico City. The story starts with a young poet, Juan Garcia Madero, as the narrator but then leads on to another set of interweaving narratives from various people, all who are somehow connected to each other and to Mexico.  The book also finishes from Madero’s viewpoint, with the actions taking place informing the rest of the book.

A short novella of his, By Night In Chile, arrived in the post this morning and I’m fairly certain it will be brilliant. As I hope will the book I ordered at the library, Distant Star.

What I’m saying is, read Robert Bolaño. Life can’t be all about music.

Things must have been going too well. All was quiet and rather orderly until this jackass decided to take his frustration with his dwindling career options to take a shit on the entire Internet.

Ladies and gentleman: Steve Dahl, noted radio personality and columnist for the Chicago Tribune.

So what’s his problem?

Apparently, he hates the fact that due to Twitter, blogs and comment threads, ordinary people are allowed to voice their opinion.

“These days, a person only needs a computer to spew opinion across a variety of platforms. Healthy doses of outrage and narcissism are also helpful.”

This is unfair to Steve, although it is difficult to tell why. He doesn’t hold a degree in journalism as one would expect, based on the self-righteous bullshit he’s spewing. Let’s read a little further and see what entitles him to his opinion but not us to ours:

“Don’t get me wrong. I am also an outraged narcissist, but I had to work six-hour shifts in Bakersfield, Calif., to earn my stripes as a communicator.”

Holy fucking shit! Six hours! The man’s an animal!

How does he do it?

Who here works more than 6 hours a day? Yeah, that’s pretty much everybody. However, since you don’t work in the hallowed halls of a dying format like radio or newspapers, your opinion means fuck-all.

He goes on to insert his massive foot farther into his massive mouth by calling CNN out for reading viewer Tweets:

“Nowadays, having a Twitter page qualifies a person to give commentary on CNN. I am not interested in the take of @stinky on the Fort Hood shootings or any other current events. I am watching CNN because I expect them to gather the news, not act as a clearinghouse for any bonehead with a computer, a cable modem and a half-baked opinion.”

So, boneheads: how’s that feel? A dinosaur of the cable news industry is recognizing the shifting playing field and trying to connect with their viewers. Sure, not every opinion is going to be mind-blowing gold, but at least they’re trying. As compared to Stevie here, whose sense of entitlement is currently going at his brain like an enraged tumor and devouring anything useful.

Steve’s not content to stop there. Here’s a swing at Facebook:

“With the advent of Twitter, Facebook, instant messaging and texting, now almost any fool can set up his or her broadcast hub.”

You hear that, fools? Your own broadcast hub! It’ll be like the heyday of pirate radio, only staffed with fools and boneheads!

This seems way, way more than hypocritical from a guy who admits to using Facebook and Twitter nearly constantly.

And, of course, he used it to send out photos of bikini-clad women whose pictures were taken unknowingly.

“I even started including bikini shots via Twitpic with my Tweets.”

Oh, and he has a blog.

For someone so connected with his readers, he sure knows how to marginalize them all in just a few paragraphs. This is why your average Internet user hates your average journalist. They all consider themselves to be better and more informed than the readers they cater to. But now there are too many options and rather than try to connect, they condescend.

Unfortunately, no one has any pity for all these small fish in a rapidly draining pond. No matter how much they splash around like big fish, they’ll still fit down the drain.

This is America, land of the running mouth. We all have opinions and we all like to state our case. For those who think a degree or a certain line of employment makes yours the only opinion that counts, prepare for a short lifespan of soul-sucking disappointment.

Your field has already been marginalized by the Internet, and all you can think to do is pour gasoline on your death pyre.

Of course, great thinking and open-mindedness is not to be expected from the “DJ-personality” who presided over one of the most celebrated public displays of racism and homophobia ever: Disco Demolition Night.

As I watched the sad eyes of Lou Dobbs last night while he bade an abrupt farewell to his long career at CNN, I shed the tears that he apparently couldn’t. I cried in part because, regardless of the Basta Dobbs campaign’s — and my own — constitutional differences with his brand of anti-immigrant, anti-Latino propaganda disguised as news, one couldn’t help but be moved by the fast and fiery demise of a media titan. It really was sad to watch the aging Dobbs go out without the slow grace and good will that characterized Walter Cronkite’s departure in a previous media era.

Yet, while slightly moved by Dobbs’ personal drama, I cried primarily because, as a member, relative and friend of the groups most vilified by Dobbs for so many years — Latinos and immigrants — I was inspired by the power of the movement to oust him, a movement that these same groups and their allies led. In the words of many a jubilant Twitterer and Facebook friend celebrating Dobbs’transition as a victory,”Si Se Pudo” (Yes We Could).

At one level, Dobbs’ departure was influenced by internal dynamics at CNN, a network in need of rapid changes required by the economic, political and demographic shifts transforming media. But at another level, the victory over Dobbs shows that our community is mobilized like never before. It reflects how we have taken important strides since the immigrants rights marches of 2006, and are now using the latest technology and organizing tactics to make our voices heard. Lou Dobbs led us to march with our feet — and with our fingers.

In their search for the right frame for the story, many have commented that ours was a struggle against the kind of hatred promoted by Dobbs and his many guests. But for those working daily to defeat Dobbs, the guiding force of our movement was not hate but love — the love that we show ourselves when, in the face of daily attacks, we stand up and say “Basta,” “Enough.“

More than the media or technology or organizing capabilities of Presente.org, Drop Dobbs, DemocraciaUSA, NDN, America’s Voice, NALACC or any other organization, the will of the many to push the powerful few has again reminded us of the centrality of spirituality to social change. I cried mostly because I saw in Dobbs’ departure some of the same intense desire for change that made many of us cry at the election of Barack Obama.

Dobbs himself said it best when, during his farewell, he linked his rapid departure to how “strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us.” I was touched by these same winds during my travels throughout the country, where I met some of the more than 100,000 people who signed our Basta Dobbs petition. I heard it from the septuagenarian Tejano who, from his hospital bed had a family member text message to tell me, “I’m getting ready to leave the hospital and will be ready to help you get Dobbs out soon.” I saw it in the youthful optimism of the troop of Latina Girl Scouts from south Georgia, who said they wanted to go to Atlanta to protest CNN’s headquarters. And I felt it among the tens of thousands of non-Latinos who responded quickly to our call to demand Dobbs’ removal. Taken together, these people and others are the embodiment of the “strong winds of change” that buffeted Dobbs and CNN.

While on the surface, the anti-Dobbs movement appears as a recent development, its roots go as far back as the beginning of Dobbs attacks on immigrants. Many of the grassroots groups and bloggers allied with our campaign as well as national groups like the National Hispanic Media Coalition, the Southern Poverty Law Center and Media Matters have a long and distinguished history of challenging and checking Dobbs. Without their efforts, there would be no movement.

But for me, the most moving, poetic aspect of the entire Dobbs drama is that it begins and ends with immigrants, including undocumented immigrants. In this sense, the victory reinvigorates the important work of immigration reform. Hopefully Republicans and Democrats are taking note of the power of immigrants and the immigrant rights movement that mobilized to defeat Dobbs. But that’s for tomorrow. For now, let us commemorate this historic event by saying along with immigrants, “Justicia Poetica.”

A Caco de Telha e NER confirmaram o show de Roberto Carlos – 50 anos de música que acontecerá dia 05/12 no estádio de Pituaçu. A turnê já passou por mais de 14 cidades reunindo no repertório as músicas mais marcantes das diversas fases de sua trajetória.
Os ingressos serão vendidos a partir do dia 28 desse mês, no Shopping Iguatemi, especialmente para os clientes Itaú Personalité. Somente dia 03/12 os ingressos serão realmente liberados para o público em geral que poderá escolher entre cadeiras numeradas e arquibancadas.

Autillo Europeo; Otus scops. 20cm. el mas chico de nuestros buhos, un 10% menor que el Mochuelo Europeo. Canta en primavera, con un silbido, claro y corto. Mas delgado que el Mochuelo, con “orejas” y sin “ceño” con marcadas estrias ventrales, el color del fondo varia  entre gris y rojizo.
