Poké Fables turned out to be a very fun show with lots of content you will never expect to see in the actual video games or anime this show is based on. It seems like it was inspired by Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken due to the stop-motion animation, sexual innuendo and adult language used in the show. Starting on January 1st, it will be Mario and his friends’ turn to enter into the insane and absurd world of Fables created by the people at Insurd. It’s Christmas Eve, the presents are wrapped and under the tree, and there’s a dusting of snow outside. The Christmas Spirit is alive and well in the house, and life is good.

Star Wars is playing, in some kind of endless loop, on television. The original trilogy, that is. And somehow it seems to fit just fine with the festive season. These movies were watched and memorised in my house in the same way as The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins were, and at about the same age. I am truly a child of the X Generation.

My brother was over earlier, and we watched part of Return of the Jedi and some of A New Hope together. (I’m telling you, endless loop.) I showed him the Star Wars clip on How It Should Have Ended, and the Emperor Palpatine Phone Call from Robot Chicken. Then he showed me Patton Oswalt riffing on how, if he had time travel capabilities, the first thing he would do would be to go back to 1993 and kill George Lucas with a shovel. Not exactly in the Christmas spirit, I suppose, but it was a bonding moment for us.

Tomorrow, I learn how to cook a turkey dinner for ten people. My mom is determined to teach me. And as though that weren’t worrying enough, we’re breaking with tradition and trying some new recipies; we made the mistake of watching Jamie Oliver’s Christmas special. I took notes. It might not end in tears. I’ll keep you posted.

1. The Simpsons-I know so many and between the quotes or the scenarios I can escape life for a bit.

2. Man vs. Wild-The show is so much fun and gets me thinking about other things.

3. Vintage American Gladiators-The 90’s. Always a happy time and always so fun(ny) to watch.

4. Robot Chicken-Either boring, offensive, or absolutely hilarious. The latter will always cheer me up.

5. The Bernie Mac Show-I just enjoy it alot.

6. The Electric Company (new edition)-I feel like a little kid and can escape into my dreams and/or childhood.

I’m going to start doing this on a weekly basis; I’ll just quickly look over some of the bigger DVD releases for this week (since they do come out on tuesdays). I’m not providing intense reviews, just a tiny quip on the big titles that the great lords of the Camera have provided for our entertainment.

A staple of last summer’s (damn it went by too quick, stupid snow) movie experience is The Hangover. A typical bachelor party in Vegas gone wrong; then again, it it went right, there wouldn’t be a movie about it. Which is why I guess every bachelor party you hear about goes wrong. Also your definition of “wrong” must come into play. Sleeping with 3 different chicks in one night can be a success for the best man, but probably not so much for the groom. Anyway I digress. Unlike most comedies that came out these past few years (Zohan, I’m looking at you), this one is actually funny, and I mean funny beyond the good parts shown in the commercial 15 times every hour.

I probably don’t have to explain who Tarantino is. This also means you’re already aware if you’re a fan, or a hater. Weirdly enough I don’t meet many people who are on the fence about him. They either “absolutelyfuckinglove” his works, or think they are “overrated pieces of shit”. Granted I’ll still recommend this baby no matter which clan you fall in young Macleod. Perhaps not the best movie for an avid history nutt but Christoph Waltz’s performance trumps any complaints you could possibly have about it. Oh yes, that and a redneck Brad Pitt faking Italian.

America’s (and possibly other less important places…like here) favourite stopmotion, action-figure, doll, play-doh action show is releasing it’s fourth season! Get your fill of He-man, Star Wars, Voltron, monkeys and nerds jokes straight from the source. There’s something in this carto-…show for everyone, granted you played with toys when you were young and weren’t one of those weird “I play sports” people…weirdo…

Alright, to be completely honest I’m only including this here because I expect VickyBee’s runaway shoe would hit me if I left it out. I  have no interest in this show, although not because it’s bad, but I just personally prefer to see Sam and Dean Winchester battle the force of Evil. She on the other hand, being quite the britophile and having a femboner for Jonathan Rhys Meyer, is a big fan. Sorry to spoil it honey but …he dies of an STD after banging a few gold diggers. Stupid history textbook and it’s spoilers! It ruined Titanic for me and now this!?

It’s the most wonderful tiiiiiime of the year. Apparently.

Needless to say, when we got there, we won our own goodie bag by proving we watch waaaaay too much YouTube. We guessed closest to the number of YouTube hits bestowed upon all the ‘innernet favourites’ voted for by the Popcorn comedy people. After much ado, ‘Tom & Anna’ were chosen as the new winners – something to do with a joke about lesbian millinery.

So yeah a good night. Although we’re still a bit traumatised after the Misery Bear Christmas Special…

Yes, I am an 18 year old male. Yes, I realize that I am writing a blog about the phenomona that 12 year old girls and cougars both wet their pants over. The series known as Twilight.

Now, some may ask if the “Twilight” saga counts as a cult film. and by definition, my answer is yes. There are legions of undying fans willing to do just about anything (and yes i do mean anything) to let everyone know that they are fans. Just because its a financial success and very, very mainstrean doesn’t mean its not a cult film.

The newest addition to the series is of course “New Moon.” I went to the midnight premiere of this film expecting and hoping for a trainwreck comparable to the first film, which I would describe on the uncomfortable scale as a “being touched inappropriately.”

However, “New Moon” was actually pretty good. The hipster in me loved the soundtrack (Thom Yorke and Bon Iver for the win!) and it was actually very aesthetically pleasing with interesting uses of conventional ideas and symbolism (i.e. the “Romeo and Juliet” cover when Bella falls asleep.

The movie isn’t all white make up and hot topic gift cards though, because let’s face it, the reason behind the movie actually happening is stupid. Edward leaves Bella after absolutely NOTHING happens at a birthday party and then Bella spends half a year whining about instead of doing what women ages 12-46 wanted her to do, which is get with werewolf Jacob Black. Also, there is one awkward part that just makes you feel nostalgic of the first film.

One last note, if you’re a guy DO NOT go see this movie with your significant other. The group of werewolves spend a majority of their time without shirts on and you WILL feel emasculated. I promise.

Just watched the second Robot Chicken Star Wars episode. It made me laugh. What I find so darn entertaining about it is how they follow a character’s life leading up to or right after a scene that we see them in actual movies. They’ve come up with some great background stories for the characters that put their role in the original films in a far different (and yes hilarious) light. I want to see more. It’s intriguing.

I also really enjoy hearing voices such as Mark Hamill, Carry Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Conan O’Brien (personal fav), and other recognizable Family Guy voices. It ads a little something something to the enjoyment.

The 2009 Auckland Armageddon Expo was held on Labour Weekend at the ASB Showgrounds and what an amazing weekend it was. With over 40,000 people attending the event, Armageddon is now THE biggest fantasy event in the southern hemisphere; as well as one of the largest events of its kind in the world.

New to the format this year were amusement park rides (which were popular with the young and old), the Masquerade Ball with 500 guests  in costumes or masks, as well as an array of special events  like live Roller Derby.

The event’s  main stage  increased in size this year from 900 to 3000 seats and was in constant demand, with approx 2,000 in the room for the Robot Chicken panels and Michael Winslow performances.

The signing tent was packed  as well as hundreds of fans lined up to chat and get signatures from stars like Dante Basco, Seth Green, Jason Mamoa, Craig Parker and dozens more.

Media that came out to cover the event seemed to have a great time as well. See this great clip of 3News reporter Jono Hutchison take on two pro wrestlers here.

Due to the World Series, there was no new episode of Glee or So You Think You Can Dance. I had to find something else to watch. While there were lots of potential choices, I decided to relive my childhood and watch The Neverending Story. When it came to the part when Bastian realizes that the characters in the book know that he’s reading along with them. That part is supposed to be the pinnacle point in the movie, but a little skit from Robot Chicken called The Neverending Party has ruined it for me in good way. When I watch it, I can’t stop laughing. Posted above is the skit and the reason why The Neverending Story is now a comedy to me.

Titan Maximum
Episode 1: “Pilot”
Wherein we meet Titan Force Five, and see them come together to take down one of their former friends.

So I know this isn’t Japanese anime, nor is it strictly animated: it’s stop motion; however, I do reserve the right to be as vague as I want about what this blog strictly reviews, so this one’s gettin’ in. I mostly want to review this series because the pilot had me laughing pretty good. It’d take up way too much space, and I’d probably end up typing out most of the script if I tried to catalog all the great one-liners. This is a new show that just debuted on Cartoon Network. The premise involves a sentai group of five, but they disband during peacetime due to budget problems. One of their old members goes rogue and tries to conquer the world, so they come back to take him down. The plot isn’t bad, and the humor, while being perhaps a little immature college-boy kind of humor, is actually funny. I got some good laughs from this first episode, though obviously this vein of humor won’t be for everyone. I think the show’s one major shortcoming is that it’s kind of hard to like any of the characters all that much. Sascha’s a douchebag queen/failed pop-star still livin’ it up; Palmer’s a jock/frat-boy, though somewhat likeable; Palmer’s little brother is a nerd, and not the kind that you’d sympathize with; Jody is Ms. Perfect and not very interesting besides; the fat guy died; and the other old member went rogue; I guess there’s the monkey, who is fairly funny in that he doesn’t say anything but seems still as intelligent as anyone else in the show if not smarter (not really saying much). So while it’s funny, I have trouble getting into the show itself. It makes me laugh, but there should be more to it, I think. I’m still giving the first episode a 5/5 because it does what any good first episode should: it makes you want to see the rest.

Hoy os traigo algo, muy,muy,muy,muy,muy,muy,muy,muy friki, un “pequeño recopilatorio”  de una de las series mas absurdas que inundan el universo yankee, se trata de Robot Chicken, un espacio dentro de lo  que es el fantástico universo de adult swin, del que espero hablaros algún día, y que trata una animación de stopmotion, con muñecos o plastelina y haciendo el gilipollas completamente a saco de forma que sale una cosa que para algunos será una completa locura y para otros una completa obra locura de arte.

“Girlfriend” in New York, I Love You. She starred along side big names such as Bradley Cooper, Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom, Hayden Christensen, Christina Ricci, and Rachel Bilson.
Also as Monica in Accepted, which stars Jonah Hill and Justin Long.

Leighton Meester

Leighton has had a lot of  TV exposure, with parts in shows such as Entourage, CSI: Miami, House, Shark, Numb3rs, 8 Simple Rules, 24, 7th Heaven, and Law & Order. On the movie side of it all, she hasn’t been in anything too popular. Date Night, slated to release in 2010, is supposed to be hilarious, after all it does star funnies such as Steve Carrell and Tina Fey.

Penn Badgley

He stars in the new movie The Stepfather, which is doing pretty good at the box-office, right? He also had a bit in John Tucker Must Die along side Brittany Snow and Ashanti. He also has TV experience on Will & Grace, What I Like About You, and The Young and The Restless.

Chace Crawford

Off the top of my head I can’t think of anything he has starred in, so I reached out to my dear friend IMDB.com for info.
He lent his voice to Family Guy and Robot Chicken in 2008/2009. He is also playing the lead in Footloose, out in 2010.

Taylor Momsen

She’s probably best known as Cindy Lou Who in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. She was also in We Were Soldiers which also starred Mel Gibson and Keri Russell.

Ed Westwick

I am fairly sure Gossip Girl is his first “big” acting gig. He was in Californication for an episode in 2009. Also, he played Randy in S. Darko, which I refuse to see. BUT, he is starring at Heathcliff in 2010’s Wuthering Heights.

So, which cast member do you think is landing the best gigs? My vote goes to Blake Lively, or Leighton Meester. Although Ed Westwick’s part in Wuthering Heights is sure to put him on the map, as well as Chace Crawford’s part in Footloose.

So, I’m up late watching [adult swim] when all of a sudden…

Wooooooooot this is funny to ME!  HAHAHAHAHA!  And then, once I finally recovered, Peter Griffin skated his ass into a tree on the “new Brian” Family Guy episode.  *Sighs*  It’s been a good 10 minutes of laughter.
