Project Homework due tomorrow: Step 2. Please carefully read Step 2. It is MORE than just a list of 5 foods.

Robot Homework: Do a Google Search for NXT Robot Designs. Get ideas for making our robot stronger.

Great job today on with coming up with a robot strategy to get the rat and the refridgerated trailer. We learned the difference between passive and active attachments.

Sam’s mind is lighning fast, and they wrote the touch bumper counter program and had it working in record time.

Follow a black line is all programmed and ready to go, but the kids found a problem with the robot design. They’re going to have to rebuild it to get it to properly accomodate the light sensor.

Sam brought the words to “Crazy Train“. He’s bringing his guitar & amp to play it for us tomorrow. They plan to rewrite the words to a food safety theme for the project presentation.

I’m starting two courses at uni which require me to know C++ and Arduino software – Robot Design and Computational Applications in Mechatronic Systems. They sound pretty dry at the moment but I’m supposed to build a robot that can roll around and calculate risk/dodge obstacles and such – which sounds a little bit fun! Sometimes I wonder if I’m in the right course though but I’ve been told that working in engineering is different to studying engineering, so here I am holding down the fort till I graduate. Some might say that I’ve not managed my risk well by adding on an Arts degree. Anyway I don’t know any C/C++ and have previously tried to do a C course in India when I was there last so I should revise those notes. Didn’t finish the course though, got lazy.

( I probably have a textbook lying around. Should go find it actually… I never completed the course but I did get my driving licence there ;) ;) …………………..[5 minutes]…………………….. Chyeaah.. I found one textbook that I bought there and another one I apparently had sitting around before I even did the course. Its funny, the things you remember while writing a blog. I can actually read something while training now (read: training – the doing word of sitting on my a&& on the train).]

I found this site too: http://www.learncpp.com/, which is going to be helpful in my attempt to master C++. Just have to put in the hours now. Naat looking forward to that. Try out the site though, if any of you are trying to learn C++.

Ugh, anyway, just thought I’d share the site – should get back to it now as I have work soon!

are too many….judging which of them is more advantageous for a particular situation is a pain….Now facing huge trouble of choosing between machine language and c for programing my micro-controller…..what a pity. the thing which troubles me is that I’ve got less time and lot to learn….so…i am trying to find the easiest language which also takes a lesser time to learn….

The tutorial websites are brilliant…..they give the code for the line follower in C and then tell assembly language programing is easier and more advantageous…..worse….they don’t teach me how to get the program into the micro-controller from my PC…in other words how to embed the software into the micro-controller..how sad……..

The sites are clever in many ways./…the give tutorial on how to build a simple robot like a line follower and they don’t give tutorials for something like image processing….they give line follower tutorials for free but not anything a bit advanced…..or maybe i don’t have patience…..but one thing is for sure…no one site gives a one stop place for everything….as i keep learning i’ll try to make this blog like a one stop place where people can find things easily…..in other words….i’ll spoon feed…..hope to get people to see them….help me in finding better and more efficient logic…..better and more efficient equipment in carrying out a particular task…..

it seems i’m a virgo now…..now…..i thought i was a nearly perfect libran…..i can’t distinguish between left and right directions very quickly…..i like to do everything in a diplomatic manner…..i’m reasonably indecisive with certain important decisions…..i’m quite optimistic about everything in life…..biggest example being the classes in college….i keep attending them with the hope that someday they will become better….i keep playing tt after loosing so many times ….people have called me a loser….but i don’t give a damn…..suddenly American astrologers tell me that i’m no more a libran… wow…..

Now,….i was thinking of participating in this competition in Pragyan 2011….in which we’ve to follow lines, avoid moving objects, and park in an empty parking slot….now….initially i thought….ok making an obstacle avoider is simple…..making a line follower is also simple….why would there be susch a competition in one of the biggest tech fests of the country…..But in my boring chemistry class, when i started contemplating about the design…..WHOA…..so many cases of redundancy where the robot can keep circling….so many cases where the robot can crash into object…if it doesn’t sense it earlier…..

And one idea which struck me (not a great one) was that the direction of the robot movement can be controlled by two front wheels and we connect them to a common axle which is controlled by a motor…..the motor rotates and the axle turns both front wheels in a particular direction….the motor is controlled by the sensor circuit consisting of the IR led and 5110…..There comes a problem…where do we place the IRs and and the receivers…..i thought about keeping one ir and 5110 in the four corners of the robot to detect objects and a central sensor to detect downwards….to detect lines…..now how do we compare all the 5 inputs and for what inputs should we move which motor and in what direction…..and what if there is an object in the direction in which the robot moves after avoiding one object……..to be continued…..
