El Rock & Roll ha evolucionado considerablemente desde sus inicios hasta nuestros días. Como todo género musical se fue gestando hacia un futuro incierto que llenaría de glorias el género, hoy imprescindibles para cualquier amante de este estilo musical.

Cambió la forma, el baile, los instrumentos se fueron modernizando, surgieron nuevos subgéneros y acabó siendo una forma de expresión para los jóvenes a lo largo del tiempo, símbolo de la rebeldía y la disconformidad.

El Rock & Roll quedó inmortalizado en numerosas fotografías y vídeos, pero sería muy difícil encontrar a una persona que haya fotografiado todas las épocas.

Ahora, Valencia nos brinda la oportunidad de hacer un recorrido fotográfico a través de veinte años de trabajo a pie de escenario, realizado por el fotógrafo Liberto Peiró. En su página web deja constancia de la velocidad con la que pasa el tiempo: “Parece que fue ayer cuando empezaba a ir a los conciertos escondiendo la cámara,  para pasarla sin ser vista y poder mezclar mis dos grandes pasiones… La música en directo y la fotografía”.

Tras 20 años y más de 2000 grupos retratados en conciertos, considera que ahora es momento de llevar a cabo la que considera “la exposición más grande de la historia de Valencia y parte del extranjero de fotos de Rock and Roll”.

La exposición estará presente en Valencia hasta el 11 de Diciembre, pero llegó en dos partes. Hasta el 30 de este Noviembre pudimos acudir al Edificio de Correos de Valencia para ver “20 años de fotografía del Rock & Roll” y, después de esa fecha, sigue presente en Valencia gracias a la exposición “Jumping rock flash” en la Biblioteca Nova Al Russafí que durará hasta el 11 de Diciembre.

He had such an easy going delivery with his voice, yet it also contained the required toughness, swagger and Punk attitude that came out so naturally for Joey. Don’t Worry About Me, Spirit In My House and What A Wonderful World are three Punk Rock classics from Joey Ramone’s solo work. What A Wonderful World is covered here with remarkable, inspired spirit that flows over you like a wave of Punk Rock joy. These three songs can be enjoyed all year long, heck, this EP is so good I will listen to these Christmas songs all year long too! After I here Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), I feel like I never want to hear another vocalist sing this song again, Joey Ramone sings it that incredible, for me.

Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight) is Joey Ramone singing a ballad while not straying away from his trademark vocals, I get a real kick out of this song with it’s 1950’s Rock and Roll vibe happening. This song isn’t sappy either. Spirit In My House is the hardest song on this EP, the grooves are strong and the beat is contagious. Ronnie Spector lends her vocals on Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), while the ever legendary Marky Ramone is a special guest on What A Wonderful World. I am going to listen to this EP probably constantly throughout this holiday season, I am looking forward to each listen. I absolutely cannot exhaust myself from hearing these songs limitless times. All fans of the Ramones and Punk Rock need to own this EP. Fans of all other Rock genres need to lend an ear to what Joey Ramone created here and add this brilliant work to their Christmas music collection and enjoy it all year long too.

Based on the excited reaction my ten year old twin daughters showed, as they listened to this Joey Ramone EP today, it is safe to say his Punk/Rock and Roll legacy will live on for generations to come. I have never seen my daughters dance around and get as happy to music, like this, since they listened to Misfits Project 1950! It was a terrific sight to see, coupled with the feeling of knowing my daughters love some of the music I listen to as well.

* Don’t Worry About Me, Spirit In My House and What A Wonderful World are also on the Joey Ramone studio album – Don’t Worry About Me, (released on February 19, 2002).

* What A Wonderful World - was written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. The first recording was sung by the timeless legend – Louis Armstrong, being released in 1968 as a single.

Llegada de Kiss a Portland, para desembalar su nueva gira Alive 35!,allí en casa de Rudy Fernández demostraron quienes son los amos del Rock.

Back in 1985, I was nineteen and working part time in a grocery store, spending most of my spare change on Heavy Metal albums or cassettes. I was still a teenager trying to find my college and career path back then, making minimum wage really left me with extremely limited funds. Being picky about my purchases in 1985 was out of necessity. To buy a brand new book back then, it had to be good… Heavy Metal good. I would frequent regularly, (most of the time just to browse), a mom & pop bookstore called Bookworks. This store unfortunately no longer exists, thanks to the gigantic, corporate bookstore chains that invaded every corner of the globe. Um, back to the Bookworks store… you see, I happened upon a book that caught my eye instantly sometime back in 1985, the title Heavy Metal Thunder appeared too good to be true. The front cover of the book said it all… sub headings read: The Music, It’s History, It’s Heroes. Plus, a fully adorned Heavy Metal guitarist playing a flying V guitar, on this books front cover, was more than I could possibly resist. I bought Heavy Metal Thunder willingly for $12.95. This was the full cover price back in 1985, quite a bit of cash considering my economic situation back then.

I can remember walking home with this book under my arm, the feeling of striking Heavy Metal gold was resonating through me. Knowing this was a book documenting the history of Heavy Metal up to 1985, enticed me to become the Heavy Metal scholar of my block. I read this book from front to back repeatedly, taking in the facts and timelines of the Heavy Metal history found within it’s pages. As I look back now, this book was as informative as any Heavy Metal book available back in 1985. As I leaf through the pages of Heavy Metal Thunder today, it is obvious this book was written from the perspective of being in the year 1985. Don’t let the year 1985 fool you however, this book is accurate, informative and fact filled with enough Heavy Metal history to still satisfy me in 2009. I wish there was a companion edition of Heavy Metal Thunder that was written, a book that dates from 1985 to the present. The author, Philip Bashe, compiled a timeline of Heavy Metal evolution, in commendable fashion, with this book.

There are 32 full color pages of band and individual musician photos in Heavy Metal Thunder, each photo seems to capture the essence and significance of the Old School Heavy Metal genre. Dozens of black and white photos of Heavy Meal bands and musicians adorn the pages of this great book as well. The featured bands in this book, being depicted in color photos as well, are: Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Rush, AC/DC, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Quiet Riot and Motley Crue. Arguably, these were the biggest and most commercially embraced Heavy Metal bands back in 1985. KISS, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Mountain, Blue Cheer, Randy Rhoads, Twisted Sister, Lita Ford, Ronnie James Dio and Led Zeppelin do get their justified due in black and white photographs and are recognized for their importance in shaping and creating the Heavy Metal genre as we know it today. Even The Kinks, The Who and Grand Funk Railroad get their significance pointed out.

For it’s time, Philip Bashe does a top tier job at acknowledging a majority of the bands and musicians that were instrumental in the evolution of Heavy Metal, up to 1985, even if it is a short anecdote, quick mention or fact. From Elvis Presley to the The Doors to Fastway, the links and roots of Heavy Metal are touched upon in such an intriguing way by Philip Bashe, that I find Heavy Metal Thunder to still be a valuable read in 2009. The single most incredible aspect of Heavy Metal Thunder, is the Chronology, (timeline and progression of Heavy Metal Music), which is written so very well by Philip Bashe. This chronology begins on April 28, 1958, with guitarist Link Wray and his million selling instrumental single Rumble and ends on December 31, 1984, with the auto accident of Def Leppard’s drummer, Rick Allen. Believe me, the bands and their respective achievements, that are touched upon in between this timeline, is nothing short of a fascinating read.

Heavy Metal Thunder is a soft cover with 214 pages. A large size book, it measures 8.5″ x 11″ and is written with enough factual research that only adds to it’s total historical credibility. Metalheads both young and old, should find this book completely absorbing, with both it’s written and visual content. I have seen Heavy Metal Thunder for sale on Amazon.com, there were several used copies for sale, as recent as today. I saw the used copy price was for far less than the cover price I paid back in 1985. For me, it was money well spent 25 years ago… for I still own Heavy Metal Thunder to this very day.

I’m very thankful for being introduced to this album by The Everly Brothers, (Don and Phil Everly), as a child. My mother had this album and it was my first introduction to the amazing world of Rock and Roll. This 1958 album was a true enjoyment and will forever be an unreal lifetime memory.

I’m extra thankful for being alive to be thankful for all of the above.

Back in the early Spring of 1991, my girlfriend, (now my wife), and I ventured down to the New Haven Coliseum in New Haven, Connecticut… to frolic through a record convention. Record conventions are the best. I am guilty of not going to enough of these glorious events in my lifetime. Regardless, this record convention was chock full of vinyl, CD’s and all things Rock memorabilia that I could ever wish for. Oh yeah, there was Heavy Metal aplenty at this record convention back then… tons of it. The only parameter I needed to follow at this show was to narrow down my search, (I was not loaded with cash back then and I’m still not). Motorhead was at the top of my search list, going to this record convention. There was quite the choice of Motorhead vinyl, cassettes and CD’s to buy there… I settled on the 7″ vinyl, (45 rpm), The One To Sing The Blues. Even though I can’t remember what I actually paid for this Motorhead record, compared to purchasing a 12″ album import at the time, it was a good deal. Seven dollars keeps coming back to me, as to the purchase price though.

We left that record convention that day with just a couple of purchases. The other purchase I will save for a future post, (it was a cool piece of vinyl as well). I still own this Motorhead 45 rpm, rediscovering it recently as it was hidden away in my collection. Am I psyched that I still have it after 19 years? You betcha. I would safely guess this Motorhead record is kinda rare. The backside cover to this record sleeve has the header – Motorhead On Tour, it lists the U.K. concert dates for February 1991. There are 14 concert dates listed. Also on this backside record sleeve cover, are the complete lyrics to The One To Sing The Blues. Sure, I look back and wish I gobbled up every Motorhead vinyl treasure there was at that record convention, nonetheless, I am content with what I do have. This little record has it’s rightful place in my record collection, it being a Motorhead collectible and finding it with my wife, (then girlfriend), makes for a great memento.

Anyway, I’ve quickly watched a few Queen videos, and I think this is really it. (I was thinking of We Will Rock You, but the official video  is too funny, with Freddie tinted star glasses and Brian May’s moon boots…) So here’s to Freddie. Aka Farrokh Bulsara. 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991. And you know, I never really listened to Queen myself, but I can still feel the sadness a little bit. He was something else. And there he is now, in the middle.

The pursuit of truth, absurdity of morality and irony of inhibition is the content of   {THS} ’s new show titled:  ‘FOR ALL IS VANITY’  which follows his ‘Trash urban warfare porn dirrty pop’ style. His new canvases are the continuation of his ‘Gluebooks’, a selection of sketchbooks containing collage and filled with handwriting, rawness, dirt & pornographic images. His new work feels like a gigantic resized version of his Gluebooks from paper to canvas. An enlargement both in size and insanity.

Thomas Schostok aka {ths} was born in 1972 and started his career as a salesman for bathroom tiles. In 1999 he founded and represented himself as ‘{ths}’, working in his own studio as a designer/artist for international and national clients. He never studies design because he always thought, to study design is to be brainwashed. {ths} released three monographs/books: ‘Hard Blow’ (Rojo Editions, 2008), a book about the pornographic artwork in his so called ‘Gluebooks’ (Sketchbooks); ‘Mr. Trash’ (self published), volume one of his art and design works during the last 10 years of his career.

{ths} had exhibitions in the USA, UK, Spain, Italy, Australia, Germany and Taiwan. His love for typography can always admired in his art and design work. In 2002 he founded ‘The Cape Arcona Type Foundry’, a type foundry that produces and distributes digital typefaces. {ths} is without anger or hate, because it’s fondness for Elvis Presley and Barry White records, that continuous playing during working, make him nice and merry. - Hail to the King, Baby.

Alive 35 en Seattle con el mismo setlist de los anteriores conciertos donde solo Say Yeah! y Modern Day Delilah hacen referencia a su ultimo disco Sonic Boom, todo lo demas exitos de todos los tiempos de la banda.

Deep Purple editara proximamente un DVD con la historia de grupo con el epoca comprendida entre 1968-1976 (considerada la mejor epoca del grupo) el DVD se llamara:“History, Hits & Highlights ´68-´76”. Este DVD reúne registros de las cuatro formaciones de la banda durante ese periodo. También recoge entrevistas,actuaciones en directo tanto en conciertos como en actuaciones de TV.Además, como detalle, el DVD recoge actuaciones y entrevistas de la cuarta formación de la banda, que duró menos de un año (junio 1975 – marzo 1976) en la que contaron con Tommy Bolin, que falleció a finales de 1976.
