Donna and The Aspinauts get radio play

On Wednesday this week I went into the studios of Joy FM radio here in Melbourne to be interviewed by a lovely man named Gordon. Gordon was nervous, he’d never interviewed someone on the autism spectrum and didn’t know what to expect. I arrived with Donna and The Aspinauts Tshirts and bumper stickers and a CD of a live demo recording I’d penned and recorded that week at PV Sounds studios with The Aspinauts called What Used To Be which we’d done for Bushfire Relief and hope to release soon and will be playing at the upcoming Rock n Relief Bushfire Benefit Concert March 7th.

Gordon was a delight and played the song and suddenly Donna and The Aspinauts had had their first radioplay, all the more exciting, on a station with over 200,000 regular listeners.

After chatting about our upcoming show at swanky cabaret/theatre venue, The Butterfly Club on March 4th, we talked about the autism thang, why the band focuses on broader socio-enviro issues, musical satire, avant garde surrealism and silliness and why all of us are so much more than the labels on the jam jar.

Ya, I did the Time Warp! What's It 2 Ya?

Alright as of last night I have now seen…in its entirety…

“THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW”

Now let me start by saying I HATE MUSICALS, but this 1….wow. Now let me just say I wouldn’t buy it, but if I see it on TV I’ll stop and watch as far as I can.

This flick, wow, it’s cheesy, creepy, hokey, nasty, filthy, disturbed, and a thousand other things that would take 2 long 2 type!

For those of u who haven’t seen this….dare I say it…classic? Let me synop:

A couple of kids named Brad & Janet (played wonderfully by Barry Bostwick & Susan Sarandon [who was quite hot ;]), who leave a friend’s wedding 2 go visit the professor who introduced them. Their journey starts off normal, but after some car trouble n the rain, they r forced 2 walk 2 an old castle near by….where they meet a strange (that’s a sever understatement) group of people & embark on sleazy, song & dance routine 2 survive!

If u like weird movies/musicals this is sooooo 4 u! I suggest seeing it soon, because MTV has announced a remake of this is set 2 be released in ‘09!

All n all I give it a 8 outta 10. (oh & yes, as 1 song in the flick puts is: it IS the pelvic thrust that really dives u insayayayayan!)

Halloween Costumes

Maddie and I decided to goto the Rocky Horror Show again this year at the Music Box Theater. I decided to go as a LOLCat, specifically the one that is “in yur quantum box.. maybe.” I definitely got a lot of laughs from people, I am not sure if it was because they knew about LOLCats or even the specific reference, or if they just though it was funny to see a person walking around in a quantum box.

Maddie went as “American Apparel Douchebag”(ie: someone that works at American Apparel, they usually aren’t very nice..) Her costume definitely also turned out well. Below are some pictures of us both.
