I finally got around to buying thse. I hope to start reading them this weekend. The fourth story arc doesn’t come out in single volume till next year and also next year they are starting a new 30 edition arc. Sweet.

Em 5 de novembro, a Roland Brasil, em parceria com a RM Comercial, realizou workshop em Campinas para promover um encontro com seus clientes. Na ocasião, o gerente de produtos e marketing da Roland DG, Anderson Clayton, realizou demonstrações das impressoras AJ-740, MPX-80, MPX-70 e RS-640.

Durante a apresentação, o público pôde obter explicações sobre a capacidade dessas máquinas, projetadas com a tecnologia Roland, líder mundial em impressão de grande formato. No fim, os participantes também tiveram a chance de experimentar os modelos expostos e tirar dúvidas com representantes da empresa.

Olá galera hoje o assunto é polêmico …. infelizmente aconteceu alguns incidentes alguns dias atrás com o cantor Dinho Ouro Preto, vocalista do grupo Capital Inicial que caiu de uma passarela do palco montado na Festa do Pijama, segundo informações do Corpo de Bombeiros de Belo Horizonte, onde eles estavam fazendo o show , o músico foi socorrido por uma ambulância contratada pela organização do evento e levado até o Hospital Regional da cidade, pelo aglomeração quase que não dá tempo deles socorrerem uns gargalhavam , outros tiravam fotos outros e outro atrapalhavam e organizador do evento só berrava no microfone para a galera dar espaço. O médico Thales Henrique Caixeta apresentou o laudo de traumatismo craniano a imprensa, porém, o estado de saúde dele é estável.
Acredito que foi um pouco de distração do músico, mais graças a Deus não aconteceu o pior e você o que acha ?
Dinho Ouro preto se distraiu escorregou ou o palco da organização do evento não oferecia segurança e iluminação suficiente para os músicos ?

Set up your artwork with print data and cut paths. To assure full bleed on your image, you may add a 1pt. bleed to the outside edges of your design.

Send the artwork to the printer/cutter for PRINT ONLY with Quadralign optical registration marks added.

Remove the printed graphic from the printer/cutter. Apply a laminate film to the printed graphic.

Reload the laminated print into the printer/ cutter.

Automatically align registration marks with Quadralign.

Send CUT information only to contour-cut the graphics. The optical registration system automatically realigns the cutting path and compensates for any skew and distortion which may occur during lamination.

Weed excess vinyl from the graphic.

Apply to transfer tape and install.

Alaric is Goth.  Not the dark eyeliner, Siouxie Sioux Goth.  Nope, we’re talking the havoc-making, Rome-sacking Visigoths.

Alaric I ruled the Visigoths early in the fifth century, establishing a new royal line and invading the Eternal City in 410.  He was a big deal back then, and you’ll find references to him in art and literature through the ages.

Alaric II came along a few decades later, in 485.  In between the two Alarics,  Gesalec, Sigarec, Wallia and Thorismund held the throne, among others.  Your average Visigoth monarch’s moniker would not wear terribly well circa 2009.

But Alaric is the exception.  He sounds like a three-syllable combo platter made up of Eric and Alan, but he’s actually from the Germanic elements ala - all and ric – ruler, or something like “king of all.”  It’s a fitting name for the founder of a dynasty.

Besides the Visigoths, there was a legendary king of Sweden called Alrek 0r Alrekr, and often Anglicized as Alaric.

While Alaric has never appeared in the US Top 1000, you’ll find Alaric in the census records.  The Latin form of the name – Alaricus – pops up in medieval records, too, suggesting that he’s been in occasional use for generations.

But most modern parents probably discover Alaric in the pages of a book.  If not history, then fiction:

• Katherine Kountz used Alaric for a character in her long-running Deryni fantasy series – he’s a duke, and a good egg;
• Stephen King used it for Roland’s grandfather in his Dark Towers series;
• One of Anthony Trollope’s Three Clerks was Alaric Tudor;
• PG Wodehouse, best known for his Jeeves & Wooster series, also wrote about the inhabitants of Blandings Castle.  The elderly, grouchy Duke of Dunstable is a frequent visitor – and wears the name Alaric.

The British Navy used Alaric for a submarine late in World War II, and at least one Alaric has served the US military with distinction – back during the Civil War, Union Army officer Alaric Chapin was awarded the medal of honor.

It’s difficult to decide if Alaric is over the top in 2009.  Gavin and Tristan are Top 100 picks.  Boys answer to Sebastian and Julian.  Romeo ranked #466 and Orlando #419.

Perhaps the best way to describe Alaric is from the title of one of my favorite user-created lists at Nameberry:  My Braver Alter-Ego Would Totally Use These.  The list groups Alaric with other gems like Horatio, Junia and Crispin – quirky and stylish, but just a bit less accessible than almost mainstream choices like Asher.

Alaric offers a few nicknames – Al, Rick and Aric are the obvious three.  If those don’t thrill you, proceed with caution.  While more and more parents use – and prefer that others use – their child’s full name, there’s no guarantee what will happen when your son hits middle school.  Or tuck Alaric in the middle spot, where he’d be a good substitute for Alexander.

Then again, what kid wouldn’t be delighted to learn that he was named after a barbarian king?

So, I noticed today that I haven’t written in almost a week! (Not even a lame post letting you know about free rentals-speaking of which, I will have another one of those coming!)

I was thinking today that I often feel like I don’t accomplish much during the since I am a stay at home mom with two little kids. So I decided that today I would make a list of the things I did do today. They might not all seem like much, but it shows me that I did more than just survive the day.

Took the trash out, brought the trashcan back
Got the mail and read the paper
Played Candyland with Little Monkey
Fed Little Monkette…many times
Sent many emails with my sister about things regarding Open House
Sewed the buttons on the coffee cozies for Open House
Attempted to make a firecracker hair tie-it did not turn out how I planned
Actually cooked dinner for myself (granted it was a freezer meal that you just put in a pan for like 10 minutes, but still)
Fixed the font on our Christmas card that was partly cut off during printing
Read a lot of blogs

I’m sure I’m missing something…..but hey at least it appears a little productive. And the night is still young. Who knows what else might get done….or not get done.

After contemplating the hassle it will be to try and power the Ground Link for questionable benefit, it went out the door.

Now we’re back to an old Ground Control. The older GC fits the job better because the throw on the switches is much smaller and more clicky than on the GC Pro. I’m still wrestling with the desire to have SOME CC message passing ability for the effects boxes and the Looperlative, so it’s possible that I’ll grab a cheap GC if one comes my way again.

After a while, I managed to get back to playing with the GR-50 and JV-880. As I started diving deeper into the GR-50 and playing with the Warr, I realized that the tapping feel of the Warr was not enough to fully trigger stuff on the GR-50, even with the sensitivity maxed out. That was the clincher to sell the setup and get back to the GR-33. Could keep rackmounted and do a GI-20 + XV-2020/JV-1010 or other synth combo, however the GR-33 is a known and loved quantity, the display is bigger and I don’t mind it being on the floor or whereever it will live.

It’s beginning to take good shape.

(mf) Wer in diesen Tagen “2012″ bei Google eingibt, interessiert sich nicht zwangsläufig für Roland Emmerichs neuesten Katastrophenstreifen, auch wenn die Verkaufszahlen eine deutliche Sprache sprechen. Vielmehr ist es der Hype, der rund um das im Film thematisierte Datum entstanden ist, der die Leute antreibt mehr darüber erfahren zu wollen.

Der Hintergrund:

Wer es, trotz der enormen Medienpräsenz also noch nicht mitbekommen hat: Am 21.12. des Jahres 2012 (unserer Zeitrechnung) wird der von der Hochkultur der Mayas entwickelte Kalender enden. Das ist Fakt und daran kann man auch nichts ändern, aber dazu später mehr.

Gibt man also besagtes Datum in die Suchmaske ein, bietet einem die Autovervollständigung gleich noch angenehme Schlagworte wie “Weltuntergang” und “Apokalypse” dazu an. Ist es nicht schön, wie positiv und ausgeglichen wir Menschen doch sind, dass sogar von uns programmierte Suchroutinen stets zuallererst auf das Negative verweisen? Im Ernst, wenn Ihr Euch für das Thema wirklich interessiert, nehmt Euch die Zeit und definiert Eure Suche ein wenig genauer. Wenn man zum Beispiel eine neutrale Suchanfrage wie “21.12.2012 Ende des Mayakalenders” eingibt, erhält man, neben den üblichen Weltuntergang predigenden Trittbrettfahren, die ein solcher Hype immer mit sich bringt, auch einige vernünftige Treffer, die den Hintergrund der Sache von einem neutralen wissenschaftlichen Standpunkt beleuchten, ohne sich der Angst der Leichtgläubigen zu bedienen.

Natürlich stimmen die Fakten insoweit, dass dieser Mayakalender existiert und auch dass dieser circa am 21.12.2012 enden wird. Wie kommt das? Es ist einfacher und unspektakulärer als man glauben mag. Die Maya haben, wie spätere Völker auch, den Sternenhimmel als Maßstab für ihre Zeitrechnung benutzt. An der Bewegung der Gestirne konnten sie so Regelmäßigkeiten erkennen, aus denen später ein System (ähnlich unserem Gregorianischen Kalender) mit Tagen, Monaten und Jahren entstanden ist. Wie alle Wissenschaftler, suchten auch die Gelehrten der Maya fieberhaft nach Fixpunkten, Konstanten, an denen sie sich besser orientieren konnten und so wählten sie für den Beginn ihres Kalenders einen Tag, an dem die Planeten in einer geraden Konstellation zueinander standen. Das sah nicht nur schick aus, sondern war auch sehr leicht zu merken. Nachdem sie also ihren Tag Null gesetzt hatten, begannen sie nach diesem Kalender zu leben und schrieben im Zuge dessen natürlich auch einen ebensolchen nieder – kann sich ja auch keiner alles aus dem Kopf merken. Natürlich weiß man nicht, warum die Maya mit ihren Aufzeichnungen genau beim 21.12.2012 aufgehört haben, aber fest steht, dass etwa zu diesem Zeitpunkt (das Datum kann 1-2 Tage abweichen) dieselbe Planetenkonstellation zu beobachten sein wird, wie bei der Einführung des Kalenders.

Soviel zur Theorie. Warum nun den fleißigen Schreiberlingen der Maya ausgerechnet zu diesem Zeitpunkt die Puste ausging, wissen wir nicht. Traurige Realität ist jedoch, dass ihre Hochkultur mit der Landung der Portugiesen ein jähes und grausames Ende fand. Man könnte es den armen Maya also sicher nicht verdenken, wenn sie uns Europäern daraufhin den Weltuntergang an den Hals gewünscht hätten, oder nicht? So ist es aber nicht. In keiner ihrer Schriften wird etwas derartiges erwähnt. Darüber hinaus ist es einfach nur schwachsinnig, zu glauben, dass die Welt untergeht, nur weil ein Kalender endet. Mein Kollege Percilator zum Beispiel hat mit Excel einen Schichtkalender erstellt, auf dem ich bis zum Jahre 2060 ablesen kann, welche Schicht er hat. Bedeutet das zwangsläufig, dass zu diesem Zeitpunkt sein Betrieb in einer Erdspalte verschwinden wird?  Oder dass der Arme zwanzig Jahre über sein Rentenalter hinaus dort arbeiten muss? Wohl kaum.

Zu der Fülle an apokalyptischen Theorien und Schwarzmalerei, kann ich nur abschließend sagen: Schon bevor wir den Kalender der Maya kannten, gab es unzählige Prophezeihungen Weltuntergang und Chaos betreffend, die ebenso klar datiert waren und zum Glück hat keine davon sich bis dato bewahrheitet. Das kann natürlich auch daran liegen, dass unser Gregorianischer Kalender gar nicht so supergenau ist, wie wir Jahrhunderte lang annahmen. So sind sich Forscher aller Welt mittlerweile einig, dass zum Beispiel Jesus doch nicht an Weihnachten zur Welt kam und auch unser Jahr Null müsste wohl um plus minus dreißig Jahre korrigiert werden. Wie Ihr seht, seid Ihr nicht die Einzigen, die mit Mathe so ihre Schwierigkeiten haben. Anstatt uns mit derartig sinnlosen Kram zu beschäftigen, sollten wir unsere Zeit besser nutzen um uns mit den akuten Umweltproblemen auseinanderzusetzen, sonst werden wir es noch vor dem 21.12.2012 schaffen, unsere geliebte Erde zugrunde zu richten.

Zum Film:

Der Film war erstaunlicher Weise nicht der unter anderem von Perci prophezeite Nobrainer, dessen Unterhaltungswert einzig und allein auf den Actionszenen aufgebaut ist. Natürlich stand, und das liegt eben in der Natur der Sache, die Zerstörung der Welt im Vordergrund, schließlich musste der Film seiner Prämisse folgen. Alles andere wäre auch schlicht enttäuschend gewesen. Aber vor allem der extrem gute Cast, allen voran John Cusack, den ich einfach mag, und die Beziehungen untereinander, verliehen dem Film eine erstaunliche Tiefe – gemessen an meinen Erwartungen natürlich. Auch wenn es kein Titanic 2 war, so rissen einem die gezeigten Einzelschicksale doch enorm mit und sorgten, zumindest bei mir, ein ums andere Mal für den berühmten Frosch im Hals. Emmerich lies es sich natürlich nicht nehmen gegen Ende noch einmal an das Gute im Menschen zu appellieren und Zusammenhalt predigen zu lassen. Aber das Ganze geschah relativ unaufdringlich und so wirkte die Szene nicht allzu kitschig. Alles in allem Popcorn-Kino vom feinsten – ich bin rundum zufrieden und wurde 158 Minuten lang sehr gut unterhalten – nicht zuletzt, weil (auch wenn das etwas pervers klingt) Zerstörung noch nie so gut aussah. Natürlich sehen Erbsenzähler und VFX-Profis hier und da ein paar Ungereimtheiten, aber dennoch war die CGI einfach grandios und ist letzten Endes wohl auch das beste Argument für einen baldigen Besuch im Lichtspielhaus Eurer Wahl. Am gestrigen Abend lief der Film bei uns im Cinedom übrigens in zwei komplett ausverkauften Sälen, was für einen Dienstag Abend doch recht ungewöhnlich ist.

■■■■■■■■■□ 09/10 – Ein König unter den Katastrophenfilmen!

Summary:
After finishing the first stage in a long series toward finding The Dark Tower, Roland knows he must now “draw the three.”  He will recruit three people to assist him in his quest.  Now past the desert and mountains, he has reached an ocean beach where dangerous creatures lurk.  As he walks up this beach he gradually finds doors to other realities where his three assistants reside, completely unaware they are about to be drawn into a quest in another world.

Review:
The Drawing of the Three makes it abundantly clear that The Dark Tower series is all about plot and not about character development.    The characters do things that work for the plot, but make zero sense from a character stand-point.  I’m not talking about mistakes here.  I know in the real world people do stupid things.  It’s more akin to say a Nazi suddenly deciding he loves a Jew.  (That doesn’t happen in the book, but similar things do).   I personally find this jarring, but if you’re more of a plot person than a character person, it won’t bother you.

My other issue, and bare in mind that I’ve now read three Stephen King books, is that his writing tends to be misogynistic.  Sometimes it’s subtle.  An example in this book is when a pharmacist who hates his job is on the phone with a complaining female client.  Instead of thinking that he hates these people who complain, he thinks that he hates all these bitches who complain.  I, as someone who works with the public, am certain that he has had men and women complain, so why did King specify only women?  It seems whenever there’s an opportunity for a character to slur against women, they do.  I’m not saying no character should be misogynistic.  That’d be like saying no character should ever be racist.  I am saying that King shouldn’t take every opportunity to be misogynistic and run with it.

An even better example of this is the only female character in this book, the second assistant, Odetta.  She has Dissociative Identity Disorder.  (King wrongfully calls this Schizophrenia, which is an entirely different illness).  Stereotypically, one personality is “good,” and the other is “bad.”  The good personality is grateful to the men for helping her.  She is quiet, submissive, intelligent, and strong inside.  Naturally one of the men instantaneously falls in love with her.  *rolls eyes*  The bad personality attempts to defend herself, is physically strong, and vehemently protects herself against suspected rape.  She actually tells these men that she will kill them with her cunt.  The only women I know who use that word are raging feminists attempting to reclaim the word, and that is not the context here.  She is also described as an ugly hag.  Granted later these two personalities merge into one, but the implications are there.  Men love women who act appropriately feminine.  If you behave in any unfeminine manner, you are an ugly hag they naturally want to kill.

In spite of that, though, I do still like King’s stories.  I’m mostly willing to overlook the bouts of misogyny, because the man can certainly write plot-driven horror.  The plot here is excellent.  We have doors that lead into people’s brains, horrifying creatures called “lobstrosities,” drugs, shoot-outs, infections, murderers, and more.  There is literally horror on almost every page.  I couldn’t put it down.

If you like plot-driven horror and don’t mind overlooking character development weakness, then you will enjoy this entry into the Dark Tower series.

Things I want to buy…. yes….  a topic I think about an awful lot.  Browsing sites, book marking, pricing, reading reviews, drooling, covetting….you get the idea.  Do need all these things….?   most likely the answer is no…  would they be cool to have?  Boy howdy would they!

I just want to make a list to get it out there..throw it into the universe, there were times when I would just write in my little red and black dollar store notebook that I would carry around all the things I “needed” to get.

But this is the 21st century.  And if I can’t have a flying car or jetpack….  this will be one of the perks.

in no particular order…..  

1.  A Roland sonic cell…… it’s a sound module that can play midi files and mp3s (for live solo shows with backing tracks.), it’s also an audio interface….   and it’s a cool looking thing… think a cool keyboard rack meets the monolith from 2001.  (I did say 21st century…right?)

2.  replacement necks for a few of my guitars…..  I have a strat with what I consider to be a half cut broom handle, a tele with the most beautiful, unplayable neck I’ve ever come across, and a charvel that I ..well, let’s say, I didn’t really understand how a truss rod worked.   So..warmoth.com, look out.

3.  clothes…. not really my thing normally, but I’m still wearing stuff from who knows how many years ago, and I really need some snazzy gig stuff.  no idea what I want..but I want some hipster doofus clothes.   I may need help.

4.  a music pad pro…  a digital music stand..so I don’t have lug around this binder full of lyrics….and waste all this paper.  (back to the 21st century thing..right?).  we can put a man on the moon, but we can’t have a digital tablet that can hold all your charts and lyrics…., they have that?  very cool…. enter music pad pro plus,….and they are out of stock of their own product.   (GREAT planning and thinking guys….. )

5.  a new amp.  I’m done with solid state..and although I love my tech 21 trademark 60…(hey, Les Paul used it for his weekly new york gigs.), I want tubes..sweet, sweet tubes….that I can over ride and pump some sweet stomp boxes in….

6.  some sweet stomp boxes.  Kidding….I have enough right now. 

7. (or really 6 if you’re picky..but we’ll move on.)  a big ass Tv.  like…some in the 50 inchers.  something flat…..  something that gives off heat.  I’m thinking an LG or an Aquos.  we’ll see.

8.  a new computer… sorry, not a mac.  But a really ridiculously fast pc, with a huge hard drive that I’ll never fill up, but can always think “wow, that’s a big hard drive”

9.  I can’t think of anything more right now….and I have to make dinner.  sigh.

Parade visual effect yang ditawarkan Roland Emmerich dalam film ini benar2 memanjakan mata para penonton. Tidak heran begitu banyak orang yang tertarik hingga rela berlama2 mengantri hanya untuk melihat bumi hancur, selain tentunya tema cerita yang kontroversial karena membahas tentang kiamat. Sayangnya kekuatan ceritanya tidak sebanding dengan kehebatan visual effect yang ditawarkan.

Saya tidak akan mengulas lebih dalam film ini, karena memang tidak ada yang perlu dibahas lagi. Cerita yang sangat dangkal, dipenuhi adegan2 ala film disaster hollywood pada umumnya. Film yang kurang berkesan walaupun sebenarnya temanya cukup bagus. Kesan film ‘hollywood’ terlalu menempel di film ini, membuatnya jadi membosankan karena di pertengahan film kita sudah bisa menebak endingnya akan seperti apa. Ditambah banyaknya adegan yang tidak masuk akal, dan adegan2 hoki lainnya yang membuat keluarga Jackson Curtis bisa selamat :nohope:  Emmerich tampaknya mencari ‘aman’ dengan menyajikan cerita seadanya tanpa dibumbui konflik dan twist2 yang rumit. Film ini benar2 hanya buat entertainment semata.

Hype yang tinggi dikarenakan penasarannya orang akan film ini tidak sebanding dengan kualitas filmnya. Maaf bagi pencinta film ini, saya tidak bisa memberi nilai tinggi.

‘2012‘ filme apocalíptico que chegou aos  cinemas, no último fim de semana, superou todas as expectativas e estourou as bilheterias mundiais. O filme de Roland Emmerich ( o ‘rei’ do fim do mundo) , arrecadou US$ 225 milhões no mundo. Nas salas dos Estados Unidos e Canadá o filme alcançou os US$ 65 milhões. A previsão era que ficasse entre  no teto da previsão da indústria, que via entre US$ 55 milhões e US$ 65 milhões.

O segundo lugar ficou com  Os Fantasmas de Scrooge, animação 3-D com captura de movimentos de Robert Zemeckis. O terceiro lugar foi de Miravam Cabras que soma até agora U$ 23 milhões em 10 dias. O filme conta a história de uma divisão do exército dos EUA  criada  com o intuito de recrutar paranormais e seres especiais para dar ao país uma vantagem nas guerras. Chega aos cinemas brasileiros apenas em fevereiro de 2010.

A quarta posição é de Precious. O drama, dirigido por Lee Daniels. Na trama, a jovem Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) que é  obesa, analfabeta,  mãe de uma menina de quatro anos com síndrome de Down, e grávida novamente, física e psicologicamente abusada por sua mãe, repetidamente violada pelo pai, que também é o pai de seus dois filhos. Ela tem uam oportunidade rara de dar uma guinada em sua vida.

Gestern habe ich mir 2012 angesehen. Ich bin ein Fan von Weltuntergangsfilmen, und da ja in jeder Werbung für den Film damit geworben wurde, das Roland Emmerich auch für “Independence Day” und “The Day After Tomorrow” verantwortlich ist, war ich schon sehr gespannt.

Kurz und knapp: Ich fand den Film super. Sieht man von den üblichen, hier und da auftauchenden Übertreibungen ab, die es in jedem Film dieser Art gibt, ist Roland Emmerich wieder ein toller Blockbuster gelungen.

Die Geschichte des Weltuntergangs ist dabei für einen Film natürlich nicht neu und auch die Rettung am Ende kommt bekannt vor . Wobei grade die Rettung Spekulationen über einen zweiten Teil offen lassen, wird doch die Rettung bzw. die Fahrt zum rettenden Ufer nicht mehr gezeigt.

Trotzdem schaffte es der Film mich zu fesseln. Die erzählte Geschichte der getrennten Familie, der Sohn der den Vater zunächst nicht als Vater anerkennt und die späte Zusammenführung dürfen dabei scheinbar in keinem Film dieser Art fehlen.

Was die Effekte angeht war ich teilweise wirklich verblüfft. Hat man zwar in der einen oder anderen Situation das Gefühl, das man einfach sehen kann das bestimmte Szenen aus dem Computer kommen, gibt es viele Szenen die ich so noch nicht gesehen habe. Auch der Vulkanausbruch ist im Vergleich zu dem bei RTL vor einigen Wochen doch um einiges “ausgereifter” .

Fazit: Für Fans von Katastrophen- und Actionfilmen ein absolutes Muß!

Acabo de llegar a casa después de ver la película “2012″. Hace mucho tiempo desde que la vi anunciada por primera vez, y la verdad es que aunque hoy estaba algo perezoso, tenía ganas de verla.

La película trata sobre una nueva teoría del fin del mundo, basándose en las tormentas solares y poniendo la fecha del 21 de Diciembre de 2012, como la del apocalipsis de esta era. (esta fecha es la del fin del calendario maya).

Excesivamente larga para mi gusto (2 horas y 38 mintutos, casi muero por el riesgo de explosión de mi vejiga urinaria…) la película comete algunos errores habituales en este tipo de cintas, como mostrarnos por ejemplo huidas más que imposibles y súper flipadas o aviones enormes pilotados por aprendices de vuelo en avioneta.

Tampoco me ha gustado mucho la parte cómica de esta película, no entiendo las gracias gratuitas en una película tan dramática en su origen y con un trasfondo muy interesante. La reina de Inglaterra escapando del fin del mundo con sus perros, una gallina que parece que habla, la hucha del culete en un rastafari a punto de morir calcinado por un volcán… Creo que la peli es muy atractiva por si misma, sin necesidad de todas esas tonterías que aunque producen la carcajada en la sala de proyección, se salen del hilo argumental pudiendo desviarte de la trama original, que a mí al menos me ha hecho pensar y emocionarme.

Lo que si que me ha gustado (enormemente) es la banda sonora, la canción del final, “Time For Miracles”, interpretada por el maravilloso emo-gay-moderno Adam Lambert (finalista de “American Idol”, y no digo ganador porque los americanos fueron un poquito homófobos…). Otra cosa de la peli que me ha gustado es la fotografía de ésta, los paisajes, y las imágenes de destrucción y heroísmo americano que tanto me recordaron a las que pudimos ver como consecuencia del 11S… AR-TE, cuerpos llenos de polvo, caras de expectación, espera para la muerte y miedo.

Mucho dinero invertido en efectos especiales que nos muestran a America y el mundo achicharrados y re-cocidos para decir adios, o hasta luego,… todo esto según la visión de Roland Emmerich, director que ya demostró su afán destructor en anteriores producciones como “Independence Day”, “Godzilla” o “El día de mañana”.

PD: Se me olvidaba comentar, que por supuesto, entre los países que toman decisiones, por ningún lado aparece la banderita de nuestro país en la peli… en fin…

X's and O's

Last week we got off to a slow start – we were down by 11 early. After a timeout, we emphasized making a commitment on the defensive end and really stymied our opponents. But not before Keith and O got exposed (just a little). I may have been the first player in league history to nearly post a triple-double without scoring a single point. Big Game James was a set-up man this week after exploding for some crafty buckets in the previous game. Everyone else scored in double-figures with Chip (24 points) leading the way. We did a solid job at the charity stripe, which was different for us as we almost lost our first game due to Shaq-Fu from the line. The story of the game was how we really buckled down on defense, forcing a shot-clock violation and several consecutive turnovers that really made the difference in the outcome. Martin could pass to Ro for an open lay-up, but that would be too easy

The game was hardly uneventful in terms of highlights. O got crossed something disgusting in the final minutes. After the game O commented, “I didn’t wanna foul him, so I just let him go by.” Uhhh, that’s not what it looked like from my angle bruh. Keith swatted a couple of shots around after giving up a few lay-ups. Martin put on his hard hat (no pause) and toolbelt and went to work in the paint… Again. Ro had a smooth 14 with short jumpers and drives to the cup. Chip hit a mean step-back J right in the face of the defense. Oh and Chip hit somebody with one of the most devastating ball fakes I’ve ever seen. While keeping his dribble he fooled his defender into thinking he was shooting. HIs man held turbo while he pressed Y for the swat. I think he was still in the air by the time Chip finished the lay-up. I shot a mean free-throw… from the 3-point line. All in all, it was a great win.

Why are you watching your man score Keith?

We play tomorrow at 5pm. Please be on time. The other team is talkin’ trash so we have to make a statement with this one. They’re disappointed that we’re accepting a forfeit while playing them instead of giving them a chance to win with subs (non-registered players). Let’s push our streak to five games fellas! O's Defense

Those of you who were unfortunate enough to do 218 last year, also known as ‘The Roland’, will remember the somewhat legendary Zara Zaddy. Also known as Zaddy, The Zadster, that old hag etc etc. You may also remember that same jumper she wore, week in, week out, with that dreadful pattern. Well, as it happens, my cirefe teacher also wore a jumper strikingly similar to that modelled by Zaddy. It was scary, and quite funny. She has, and infact most of this country have, the worst dress sense in the world. She has previously worn brown sans-culottes with pink socks, totally defeating the object of sans-culottes. She also had a knitted pink jumper on to match. Bleugh. And these ‘harem’ pants, as I belive they’re called. They are vile. So vile that I wonder what they would do if they had to straddle a bollard. Quite simply: they would die.

Anyway, on a more “something to put in my journal” note, yesterday in Cirefe, the debate topic was all about ‘jeudi soir à Rennes’. Thursdays here are when most of the student population [that is to say, most of the population of Rennes] go out. This is because most of them bugger off home for the weekend on Friday, so Thursday is the logical night to go out. Despite bars having to shut at 1am. This country doesn’t make sense sometimes. I don’t do this Thursday thing; I have an 8h15 start on Friday. Something I skived again today. Oops.
