Artist and reconstructor of vintage jackets Dr. Romanelli has unveiled another body of work revolving around fleece. The good doc has created a line of blazers all comprised out of multiple pieces of vintage fleece. Each blazer features 80’s sourced pinstripe lining, as well as suit style metal buttons from the 60’s and 70’s. The jackets will be releasing in extremely limited quantities exclusively at Barneys Japan.

Released publicly for the first time, and only previously screened twice, Ain’t Easy Being Green is a feature length documentary that tells the compelling and heartbreaking story of Green Party Candidate Carl Romanelli who ran against Republican Rick Santorum and Democrat Bob Casey Jr. in the 2006 race for US Senator from Pennsylvania. Ain’t Easy Being Green demonstrates the insurmountable obstacles that third party candidates in America face as the major parties prevent them from achieving ballot access.

This film features exclusive and original footage of presidential candidate Rick Santorum that is not available elsewhere. (There are also many, many tapes of behind-the-scenes footage that will be released at a later date.)

We couldn’t resist spending most of our day on the B&B property, it was surrounded by beautiful countryside…wheat, sunflowers and vines. We slept in, had a slow breakfast, went for a run and caught up on some computer work before finally making out to the charming medieval village of Montefalco. We parked outside the wall and took our time strolling the streets. There was one big square and the theme of the little boutiques was of course wine. Some of the best Italian wine we have ever tasted (Sagrantino di Montefalco) come from this tiny winemaking region. Until our trip to Umbria…we had never heard of the Sagrantino grape before. We love it. It’s not your typical Italian wine that is light and fruity. The Sagrantino di Montefalco is extremely rich…full bodied…with lots of tannins. And for you white wine lovers…the Grechetto (another local grape) is a perfect bottle to open in the sun on a hot day.

The village was filled with a number of different wine shops and meat/cheese/pasta stores. After doing a bit of window shopping, we stopped in a little wine shop to taste some local wine. The Sagrantino was delicious but not necessarily cheap.

We walked out of the main area to see what the residential area of town looked like, it was quieter on those streets with the colored shutters and beautiful bright flowers planted. We made our way back to the square and sat at one of the many wine bars for a pre-dinner snack. The Italians eat dinner fairly late so restaurants are typically empty until about 8:30-11:00pm.

We ordered a glass of wine and an assortment of crostini while sitting outside in the big piazza. After our snack, we walked back by the pizzeria we had seen earlier. It was decked out with musical instruments all over the walls and ceiling and had fun jazz playing on the radio. We sat in a corner table and ordered our pizzas and wine. The wine we ordered was local and came in an extremely different looking bottle. The waiter pulled the short stubby glass bottle with painted white flowers all of over it out of a box. Even the cork had the little flowers all over it. The glasses they gave us were dramatically large which made drinking this wine very fun. The wine (Calcabrina) was made of a blend, but mostly sagrantino…and was very good. The pizzas weren’t great but the ambiance made the dinner.

We went back to our place full, and settled into a movie before bed.

Tonight I met with my summer comp class for the second time; first time online. Based on the two Mo

Tonight I met with my summer comp class for the second time; first time online. Based on the two Mozilla drumbeat conferences in which I participated and Mike‘s last exhibition, I decided to give the etherpad model a shot. It was outstanding. We had a good time. It was a meaningful hour-plus with good participation. We used a dial-in conference call (using the free resource “join.me“) in which everyone participated, so the experience was a hybrid speak/write.

It brought up some interesting ideas to consider with online teaching. First of all, it illustrated, even though it was only our second meeting (our first online) that there is real potential to create a learning community online. Second, the hybrid etherpad/conference call model offered a unique blend of comfort. For some, speaking was less appealing than writing; for others it was the opposite.

This wasn’t entirely new to me. I’ve experienced the same thing using discussion boards with classes. The difference in this case was the real-time quality of the etherpad With the etherpad, we have a standing document of our work combined with a live time resource. That is also a powerful and unique blend of resources.

Another issue that has proven true is one about which I have talked with Mike a few times. He feels the video component of online resources like Skype, Elluminate, Wimba, and now, Big Blue Button, don’t serve as valuable a purpose as many believe. Now that I have experienced the etherpad/conference call a few times, I agree. The video would actually be an unnecessary addition to the media and might even serve as a distraction. It’s important to mention that is in a hybrid context. We did get to meet live last week at the New Bedford eHealth campus.

One way in which we envision using the pad this term is by creating individual pads for each class member in addition to the class pad. That way, I can see students’ writing processes and students can easily access each other’s pads when they collaborate in online writers’ workshops. Over the past two semesters I have successfully used googledocs and that was my original intention this term. But we’re going to try it with the pad. It offers one less thing to deal with and it is a simpler interface for students to manipulate. It does not offer the power and breadth of googledocs and that may be a good thing (less is more).

So . . . we’ll see where this all goes. I love what got started tonight. The energy was there. I felt like the entire group was pretty attentive for the entire 75 minutes and that there was some real engagement happening around the discussion. See for yourself if you like, and tell me what you think.

Class Etherpad – http://ehealth_eng101.ietherpad.com/2

After we landed at Bari airport around 9:00am, we left for Torre Guaceto, where we visited the olive groves and tasted some of their excellent fresh cheeses, including the burrata, caciocavallo, straciatella, ricotta forte and fagotino. After that, we went for a swim at a nearby beach of Torre Guaceto.

Carl Romanelli’s name was withheld from the U. S.
The Green Party candidate is seeking at least $300,000 plus attorney’s fees from state Rep. DeWeese (D), former state Rep.

Fonte: Gazeta do Povo

Brian Romanelli, a freshman communications major, received a rude welcome in his second semester at

Brian Romanelli, a freshman communications major, received a rude welcome in his second semester at Temple – more than a semester of disciplinary probation and 20 hours of community service.

Romanelli was not drinking or being rowdy, though. He was taking pictures.
The photos were for a class, Photography for Filmmakers.

On March 17 around 5 p.m., Romanelli was sitting on the grass lawn between Broad Street and the Johnson and Hardwick residence halls. He saw a man exposing himself to Temple students walking on Broad Street past J&H. Soon after, two Temple Police officers arrived at the scene.

Courtesy Brian Romanelli

Romanelli got up from where he was sitting, and walked around the fence separating the sidewalk and the grass, stopping about 10 to 15 feet away to take pictures of the arrest.

He said one of the officers grabbed his arm, pushed him away and said “Get the f–k out of here.”

Romanelli moved back to the other side of the fence and took a few more pictures. Once handcuffs were on the man who exposed himself, Romanelli walked back to the gate, which was about 50 feet away from the police, and took more pictures of the arrest.
The same officer waved him away again, he said.

After the man was in a police van, the two police officers walked over to him.
“You don’t like to listen, do you?” Romanelli said the officer asked him.

Romanelli said the other officer grabbed him by his arm and pulled his wallet from his back pocket.

The police then checked Romanelli’s name to see if he had any outstanding warrants.
“I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to take pictures,’” Romanelli said.

He said the officer who first approached him said “not when the police tell you you can’t,’” Romanelli said.

“He said I was interfering with a police investigation,” he added.

After the officers took down his information, they left, Romanelli said.

“See you at [University Disciplinary Council],” an officer said.

The only witnesses called by the panel were the two officers, Romanelli said.
He called a friend to testify on his behalf.

The panel was made up of three faculty members and two undergraduate students, Ja’Nice Proctor and Chanelle Desir. The chair of the panel was Keith Gumery, an English professor.

The panel unanimously agreed Romanelli was at fault for failing to properly identify himself or to comply with the instructions or directions of a person acting in duly authorized university capacity and gave him disciplinary probation until the end of the Fall 2009 semester and 20 hours of community service, which they recommended he complete with Campus Safety.

Brian Foley, coordinator of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, said recommendations are “random” to some extent but can be based on the offense the student has committed.

“Sometimes we deal with certain violations that deal with someone not cooperating with police. We might refer them to Campus Safety,” Foley said.

The panel members are volunteers who go through a period of training, he said. The training includes the various violations of the student code of conduct and different kinds of sanctions, among other things.

Foley said there is an appeals process, which varies with the sanction.

Carl Romanelli, who ran for U.S. Senate as a Green Party candidate in 2006, is being forced to pay over $80,000 in court costs because his nomination petitions were sucessfully challenged by Pennsylvania Democrats. (Commonwealth Court alerted him Friday that he will have ten days to pay the bill.) Ralph Nader’s 2004 presidential campaign on the Green Party ticket was the first to incur such costly court bills in U.S. history, as his petitions were also challenged by Democrats in PA, the only state requiring defendants to reimburse their challengers’ court costs.

The challenging of third-party candidate nomination petitions, including those of Romanelli and Nader, is currently under the scrutiny of Attorney General Tom Corbett in the “Bonusgate” investigation. Employees and House Democratic Caucus members - a dozen so far – have already been charged in the scandal that uncovers taxpayer-funded bonus payments for challenging nominating petitions for third-party candidates.

History shows that minor-party platforms have introduced some of our most important issues, including abolition and women’s suffrage, which were adopted by major parties after gaining sufficient voter support. Major parties have since adopted practices that seek to eliminate political competition at the expense of the voter and of democracy.

Please click http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/38520417.html to read “Heavy costs of a run by a third party in PA” by Ralph Nader as published in the Philadelphia Inquirer today.

In the campaign’s lawsuit concerning ballot access, it was pointed out that both Ralph Nader and Carl Romanelli alleged that state employees working to invalidate their signatures received bonuses from their caucuses for doing so. The lawsuit appears below in its entirety.

Now an article appearing in today’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette corroborates such claims and gives a clearer insight into how extensive the practice has been, and how it worked.
