Sinopsis:

Jerry Shaw y Rachel Holloman son dos desconocidos que se encuentran por culpa de una misteriosa llamada de teléfono de una mujer a la que no conocen. Amenazando sus vidas y a sus familias, consigue que Rachel y Jerry se metan en situaciones cada vez más peligrosas, utilizando la tecnología de la vida cotidiana para seguir todos y cada uno de sus movimientos. A medida que las cosas se complican, estas dos personas normales y corrientes se convierten en los fugitivos más buscados de USA, y tienen que colaborar para averiguar qué está pasando en realidad y, lo que es aún más importante, por qué.

Opinión:

¿¿¿¿Comorrrrrr???? ¿Que el malo malisimo de la película es un ordenata al que se le va la pinza de mala manera y se quiere cepillar a todo el gobierno de los USA, presidente incluido? Buajajajajajjajaja, pero que despropósito hombre, ¿y esta es la famosisima idea que le rondo en la cabeza a Spielberg durante años y que no tuvo cojones de rodar? Ahora entiendo el porque…

¿Y ahora?

Eso si, la cosa esta rodada de cine, y cuenta con una de esas escenas que se te queda grabada en las retinas, me refiero a la persecución en coches de la policía a Shia LaBeouf y Michelle Monaghan, realmente espectacular y con un ritmo increíble. Así mismo, las interpretaciones son muy solidas, tanto por parte del nuevo chico de oro de Hollywood, LaBeouf, como del resto de secundarios, aunque para mi gusto Rosario Dawson esta muy desaprovechada.

Todo el santo día corriendo...

El problema base es que el guión es un atentado contra la inteligencia, plagado de absurdeces varias, y con un final de traca, cuando se revela todo el pastel. Pero hasta ese momento la película se muestra como un poderoso film de suspense que te mantiene en tensión constante. Una pena porque la cosa prometía.

Drama protagonizado por Will Smith que interpreta un sufrido sujeto que debe ayudar a un grupo escogido de personas de maneras y razones que nos vamos enterando a medida que transcurre la película.

Si bien, la cinta se sostiene por la curiosidad de saber más del protagonista y su pasado. que se va descubriendo a través de reiterados flashbacks, la conclusión no deja del todo conforme. ***

This movie is looking better and better.  I’m still not excited about the American setting, but I’ll live with it.  The cast is looking great.  Uma Thurman looks pretty outrageous.  I don’t look forward to Pierce Brosnan’s transformation.  Rosario Dawson is looking great, I wish she got better roles, it seems like she doesn’t get in enough good movies.  The kids look OK, I can imagine that the girl is going to reach a Hermione level of annoying very quickly.

Here is the new trailer for the Percy Jackson film. It is based on a series of kids books by Rick Riordan. My son loves them and I’ve read the first one. It is a good kids book, but does follow the Harry Potter template to some extent. It is also a tad predictable, but that is probably down to age and having read many other books.

However, there are more monsters, Gods and smiting in the Percy Jackson books. Kids dig that. I suppose you could also compare it to a modern day Clash of the Titans.

This new trailer gives you a better idea of what the story is about, plus it shows some of the creatures including Uma Thurman as Medusa (apparantly iPhones have superceded shiny shields!). The trailer also shows Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Rosario Dawson as Persephone and Logan Lerman as Percy. However, the film also features Kevin McKidd, Sean Bean, Steve Coogan, Joe Pantoliano and Catherine Keener so there are plenty of talented actors involved.

20th Century Fox has released this new international trailer for the Chris Columbus directed fantasy adventure, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

The movie is set in the 21st century but sees the gods and monsters of Greek mythology come to life, emerging from the pages of Percy Jackson’s school books. Percy then discovers that he is the demigod son of the Greek god, Poseidon, and embarks on a journey across modern-day America with his friends Annabeth, also a demigod, and Grover, a satyr, to save his mother, return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt, and prevent a war between the gods.

The movie stars Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Keener, Kevin McKidd, Joe Pantoliano, Uma Thurman and Ray Winstone, who all add their weight on the acting front. Quite the heady cast there you have to admit. Chris Columbus is good with children’s movie having directed the first two Home Alone and Harry Potter movies.

The trailer looks good, and as a fan of Greek (well really all) mythology I’ll be watching when the movie is released February 12th, 2010.

The 1970’s show ‘Charlie’s Angels’ is reportedly being remade with writer and executive producer Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and producers Leonard Goldberg and Drew Barrymore.  ABC is on the verge of shooting the pilot for the show but no air date has been scheduled.

Wonder who the new ‘Angels’ will be? I’d like to see Eliza Dushku (since the Dollhouse has been cancelled), Laura Vandervoort (Lisa on V) and Rosario Dawson (wishful thinking).

I’ve been ruminating for about a week on an Op-Ed piece by David Brooks that appeared in the NY Times recently.  In it, Brooks opines that relationships are becoming more transitory as a result of communication technology (notably texting).

The argument he makes goes something like this: the ability to communicate instantly (and for all practical purposes, concurrently) with a large number of  people means that this new technology has brought a corresponding erosion of social barriers previously associated with courtship, which in turn has allowed young suitors to cast an ever widening net.  Or to put it more simply, since you can talk to a lot more people a lot more easily then ever before you don’t have to commit to one prospective date over another.

He says that this is turning the process of courtship into an experience more akin to comparison shopping then tradition romance.  The risk, he implies, is that we shall become less interested in the long process of wooing our very own Lady Dulcinea, then trading up as if our sexual partners are more like iPhones to be upgraded, freeing us to disregard the previous model without so much as a backward glance.  This, one can infer, will result in ever more transitory relationships and a further washing away of long-term unions in our culture.

I must admit here that the word “courtship” seems anachronistic to my ear. Brooks uses it as if it is current, though acknowledges that his concept of it is probably 30 years out of date.  I mentioned this feeling of foreignness with the word “courtship” to a few people who are much younger then me and they too seem to have a similar unfamiliarity with the concept.  Perhaps, Brooks doesn’t recognize that young people don’t really “court” in the way they did in the past, (or at least on Happy Days).  Even in my own budding sexual life there wasn’t a lot of “courting” going on (though in the interest of full disclosure, my early “sex life” was more earnest intent then actual conquest).  We called it “hooking up” back in the bad old days of the early 90s, and it was as transitory then as I imagine it is now.

This line of thinking brought me to mind a film by Larry Clark called, Kids.  It came out right as I got out of college and was probably best known for featuring a very young Chloë Sevigny.  So young in fact, that she had yet to add dots above her name and is simply credited as “Chloe”.  It also features a very young Rosaria Dawson, which I had completely forgotten about until looking at the movie poster.  The film centers around a group of middle class kids in lower Manhattan.  There is a plot, but as the film is a docu-drama, the guts of the pic are in the characters and their interactions.  I remember that there was a lot of controversy following the film as many of the characters, despite being as young as 13, were hardly the picture of innocence.  These were kids from “good homes” who were stealing, drinking, fighting, screwing and doing drugs (even on school days).  What struck me at the time was how authentic the film felt.

I grew up just over the river in New Jersey, and knew the places in the film very well.  I also felt like I knew the characters.  These were kids I knew, went to school with.  At the time, I was still young (and foolish) enough to angrily resent the “concerned parents” that were fretting over this movie.  To me, they were playing ostrich and just didn’t have the courage to recognize that their own progeny were very likely engaged in (at least some) of the mayhem being portrayed on screen.  After all, many of the “actors” were actually just kids Clark plucked off the street.  And didn’t these parents also seek out a bit of mischief  and a quick one behind the shed before they had a mortgage and worried about which fertilizer works best on a partial shade lawn?

Why this makes me think about Brooks’ piece is that I feel the same sense that the conduit is being blamed for the content.  I’m as unsure that something as superficial as communications technology can really bend the nature of human behavior, as I was certain that the peers I knew growing up were behaving in exactly the same way before and after the release of Kids, (though now I’m sure many could give good fertilizer advice).  While one can say that tweets and texts may enable a bit more ’shopping’, does it really effect a person’s promiscuity?  Do the subjects of Brook’s article actually do more now then they would have 5 or 10 years ago, or even 30-40 years ago in the ‘Happy Days’ era?  The older I get and the more books that I read, both fiction and non-, the more convinced I am that we, as a species, don’t really change all that much.

I am very unsure about this movie.  When I first watched the teaser I had a lot of hope.  It looked like a Harry Potter knock-off with Greek mythological characters instead of witches and wizards.  Sounds good, right?  Then I read the book.

Whew, the book is truly awful.  Granted it wasn’t written for adults, but technically neither was Harry Potter.  Honestly though, this book is terrible no matter how young you are.  I now have no intention of reading more of the books.

After I read the book I watched the teaser again and discovered that despite the terrible book the movie might still hold some promise.  Then they released this trailer.  Now I’m back on the ban wagon.  As long as the director and the screen-writers really change the story then this could be a good movie.  So this isn’t a full endorsement, I am not behind this movie, but I will say that it looks significantly better than the book.

Never would I have thought that a film starring Shia LaBeouf be one of the most gut-wrenching films I have ever seen.

Robert Downey Jr. stars in director Dito Montiel’s autobiographical coming-of-age drama set in blue-collar Queens, N.Y. While his young friends all seem to end up as junkies, inmates or corpses, Dito (Downey) miraculously escapes the same fate. He attributes that to divine intervention from a group of “saints,” who are the same friends whose path he tries so hard to avoid. Dianne Wiest, Chazz Palminteri, Shia LaBeouf and Rosario Dawson co-star.

Now this film is directed by the same person who wrote the memoir it is based on, and I must say there is basically no one else that can direct this other than Dito Montel, in his directorial debut.

The film is told through flashbacks, though it is set in the present, and I really did like the way it was filmed. I felt like it couldn’t have been filmed either way. We really do understand these characters right from the get-go, and we start to understand the occurrences that caused Dito to leave his  New York home grounds.

I was reading other reviews before I saw this film and so many people we’re just bashing it for going a little too far with N.Y. City stereotypes. To be truly honest I think since this is Dito’s film, and he basically wrote the story, I think he would know how everything really was around New York.

I love coming-of-age tales, but this one really ranks high with one of my favorites of that category. The whole humanity and the realism of this film is captured through it’s screenplay. The screenplay is very realistic, showing all sides of comedy, drama, and most of all, tragedy. The film really doesn’t fail at all with it’s screenplay and never goes too far with it’s cliches.

Shia LaBeouf is very good in this and shows his talents in acting, that would come to benefit him later on his career. The whole cast all do amazing jobs but the one who really stands out in my mind is Channing Tatum. I felt like this film would have not succeeded if they had somebody else playing Antonio. Tatum is tough as nails, but also very troubled and you can see that in Tatum’s performance as he plays someone different then the usual big tough guy he does in all of his other films.

The only problem I had with this film was that when it was all said and done I felt like there were more aspects of Dito’s life that weren’t covered and just forgotten that could’ve really helped this film out, but not that much of a complaint after all.

Consensus: One of the most powerful and realistic coming-of-age films I have ever seen. A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, is well-acted, sharp direction from new-comer Dito Montiel, and paints a wonderful portrait of what friendship really means.
